Potato tuber is easy to be damaged and caused browning, which will affect its nutrition, sense quality and safety. Different potato varieties have different resistances to browning. In this study, 27 different potato germplasm resources,were used to measure four indexes including polyphenol oxidase (PPO), browning degree (BD), browning index and after cooking darkening (ACD), for indentifying and selecting anti-browning potato varieties (lines). The 27 materials could be divided into four groups. High anti-browning, group including 09306-82 and 13041-52 had high resistance to browning. Anti-browning group, included Yanshu 4, Q 8, 12-1, Chunshu 3, 19-1, 14018-142, Atlantic, Longshu 12, Weiyu 5, Lishu 6, Chunshu 5, and Zaodabai, had some obvious deficiencies in the related anti-browning indicators. Medium anti-browning group, including 09001-136, Zhongshu 5, Longshu 4, Dongnong 310, Qingshu 9, 15-1, Yunshu 505, BF006, Minshu 1, and Qianyu 8, had poor resistance to browning. Easy browning group, containing Chunshu 6 and Favorita, had very weak resistance to browning. The selected varieties (lines) with very high or high resistance to browning can be used in potato breeding for browning resistance , providing variety support for potato processing industry, and the easy browning materials can be used to study the browning mechanism of potato.

Gibellula is an exclusively spider-pathogen genus, with most species immediately recognized by their distinctive conidial state, but also including the teleomorphic states of these fungi that were previously included in the rejected genus Torrubiella. Two sexual specimens and an asexual morph specimen were collected from Anhui Province, China, and were recognized as the same species based on molecular evidence. Its asexual morph differs from Gibellula pulchra, to which it is morphologically similar, in having shorter verrucose conidiophores with slightly smaller metulae, phialides and conidia. Its sexual morph is characterized by producing superficial and elongate ellipsoid small perithecia with short asci on a cream-yellow mycelial mat covering the host. Multi-locus (SSU, LSU, TEF, and RPB1) phylogenetic analyses showed that the specimens belong to a strongly supported subclade, and formed a sister subclade with G. pulchra and Gibellula sp. A combination of morphological characteristics and its phylogenetic placement confirmed that these unique specimens are a new species, which is described as Gibellula flava.

Objectives Few machine learning (ML) models are successfully deployed in clinical practice. One of the common pitfalls across the field is inappropriate problem formulation: designing ML to fit the data rather than to address a real-world clinical pain point. Methods We introduce a practical toolkit for user-centred design consisting of four questions covering: (1) solvable pain points, (2) the unique value of ML (eg, automation and augmentation), (3) the actionability pathway and (4) the model’s reward function. This toolkit was implemented in a series of six participatory design workshops with care managers in an academic medical centre. Results Pain points amenable to ML solutions included outpatient risk stratification and risk factor identification. The endpoint definitions, triggering frequency and evaluation metrics of the proposed risk scoring model were directly influenced by care manager workflows and real-world constraints. Conclusions Integrating user-centred design early in the ML life cycle is key for configuring models in a clinically actionable way. This toolkit can guide problem selection and influence choices about the technical setup of the ML problem.

Diosgenin is widely distributed in many plants, such as Polygonatum sibiricum, Paris polyphylla, Dioscorea oppositifolia, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Costus speciosus, Tacca chantrieri, which has good anti-tumor activity and preferable effects on preventing atherosclerosis, protecting the heart, treating diabetes, etc. This review combed through the anti-tumor mechanisms of diosgenin encompassing lung, breast, gallbladder, liver, oral cavity, stomach, bladder, bone marrow, etc. Besides, it was discovered that diosgenin mainly exerts its effect by inhibiting tumor cell migration, suppressing tumor cell proliferation and growth, and inducing cell apoptosis. However, problems like low yield and bioavailability frequently exist in natural diosgenin. This review introduced methods such as structural modification, dosage form optimization and combination medication to improve the yield and anti-tumor activity of diosgenin. Via the summary of this paper, it is expected to provide theoretical basis for the rational exploitation and utilization of diosgenin.

Mechanically-strong sodium alginate/clay aerogel were fabricated by addition of p-toluenesulfonic acid using a freeze-drying method. The adjusting of pH from 8 (the control) to 6, on the one hand lead to the crosslinking of alginate, on the other hand thickened the clay sol. The compressive modulus of A5C5 aerogel significantly increased from 6.0 ± 0.4 MPa (pH = 8) to 17 ± 3 MPa (pH = 6). The morphological structure characterization showed that the microstructure of aerogels changed from layered to network with decreasing pH value, with cell size ranging from 4 to 8 μm. The rheological behavior showed that the addition of p-toluenesulfonic acid would significantly improve the viscosity of the precursors at low frequency. The combustion tests indicated that all the alginate/clay aerogels possess excellent flame retardancy. The addition of p-toluenesulfonic acid further slightly increased the thermal stability and fire safety of the material. This facile preparation procedure of strengthened polymer/clay aerogel via adjusting pH is promising and can be spread.

To investigate the effects of composite Sophora colon-soluble Capsule (CSCC) on gut microbiota-mediated short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production and downstream group 3 innate lymphoid cells (ILC3s) of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis (UC) mice model.The main components of CSCC were analyzed by hybrid ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography ion mobility spectromety quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-IM-QTOF/MS). Twenty-four male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=6) by using a computer algorithm-generated random digital, including control, DSS model, mesalazine, and CSCC groups. A DSS-induced colitis mice model was established to determine the effects of CSCC by recording colonic weight, colonic length, index of colonic weight, and histological colonic score. The variations in ILC3s were assessed by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry. The results of gut microbiota and SCFAs were acquired by 16s rDNA and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The expression levels of NCRThe main components of CSCC were matrine, ammothamnine, Sophora flavescens neoalcohol J, and Sophora oxytol U. After 7 days of treatment, CSCC significantly alleviated colitis by promoting the reproduction of intestinal probiotics manifested as upregulation of the abundance of Bacteroidetes species and specifically the Bacteroidales_S24-7 genus (P0.05). Among the SCFAs, the content of butyric acid increased the most after CSCC treatment. Background: Radix Sophorae flavescentis (Kushen), a Chinese herb, is widely used in the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) with damp-heat accumulation syndrome (DHAS) according to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory.Objective: The aim of this study was to illuminate the clinical efficacy and potential mechanisms of Kushen-based TCM formulations in the treatment of UC with DHAS.Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed, EMBASE, Chinese Biomedical Literature database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure database, Chongqing VIP Information database, and Wanfang database for articles published between January 2000 and July 2020 on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that used Kushen-based TCM formulations in the treatment of UC with DHAS. A network pharmacology approach was conducted to detect the potential pathways of Kushen against UC with DHAS.Results: Eight RCTs with a total of 983 subjects were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the control subjects (5-aminosalicylic acid therapy), those who received Kushen-based TCM formulations for the treatment of UC showed a significantly higher clinical remission rate (RR = 1.20, 95% CI: [1.04, 1.38], p = 0.02) and lower incidence of adverse events (RR = 0.63, 95% CI [0.39, 1.01], p = 0.06). A component-target-pathway network was constructed, indicating five main components (quercetin, luteolin, matrine, formononetin, and phaseolin), three major targets (Interleukin-6, Myc proto-oncogene protein, and G1/S-specific cyclin-D1) and one key potential therapeutic pathway (PI3K-Akt signaling) of Kushen against UC with DHAS.Conclusion: Kushen-based TCM formulations provide good efficacy and possess great potential in the treatment of UC. Large-scale and high-quality clinical trials and experimental verification should be considered for further confirmation of the efficacy of Kushen-based formulations.
