Abstract

Despite ensuring the integrity of bogie frames for railway vehicles via nondestructive inspections during periodic maintenance, the possibility of fatigue cracks occurring at locations other than the predetermined inspection points cannot be dismissed. Therefore, fatigue cracks can be prevented more efficiently by assessing the overall degree of fatigue damage to the entire bogie frame and determining the results via nondestructive inspections. In this study, dynamic stresses in the bogie frame during running were estimated via finite element dynamic analysis by using the axle box acceleration as input, and the degree of fatigue damage and life were calculated from the waveform of the estimated stresses. Furthermore, we developed a bogie frame fatigue prediction system based on a high‐speed and high‐precision stress calculation method. The developed system visualized the overall relative life. 11. Particle flux in the twilight zone of the eastern Indian Ocean: A constraint from.sup.234U-.sup.230Th and.sup.228Ra-.sup.228Th disequilibria

Based on disequilibria of.sup.234U-.sup.230Th and.sup.228Ra-.sup.228Th, we estimated the particle flux from the surface to 950m. The estimated particle flux ranged from 190[+ or -]60 (150m in the Southern Ocean) to 8.4[+ or -]2.5mg/m.sup.2/day (950m in the West Australian Basin). The particle fluxes correlate well with estimates of nitrate supply by vertical mixing to the euphotic zone, suggesting local control by new production. Flux attenuation at mesopelagic depths appears to be related to biogenic carbonate and silica remineralization based on comparison to alkalinity and dissolved silicate distributions, with possible additional control by lithogenic particle inputs. The particle flux estimates obtained by combining the.sup.234U-.sup.230Th and.sup.228Ra-.sup.228Th disequilibria offer advantages over those from.sup.228Ra-.sup.228Th disequilibrium alone, in that they can account for some aspects of vertical mixing and thus are applicable to a wider range of oceanographic settings. 25. Decadal shift of biogenic sinking particle flux in the western North Pacific subpolar region

Abstract

Time series of biogenic sinking particle flux in the western North Pacific subpolar region over two decades (1989–2008) revealed that the biogenic CaCO3 (CC) flux has shown a significant decreasing trend of 2.7% year−1 (annual average, −0.88 ± 0.13 mg m2 day−1 year−1) along with the decreasing particulate organic carbon (POC) flux of 0.7% year−1, while the biogenic opal (OP) flux had no long-term trend. Comparing these results with the decreasing rate of satellite-derived surface CC with −0.7% year−1, we concluded that three fourths of the decreasing trend of CC flux was derived from the strengthening of CaCO3 dissolution through seawater column due to the weakening of water ventilation and the rest was from the decline of CaCO3-shelled species, indicating the enhancement of the efficiency in oceanic sequestration of atmospheric CO2 in the sea surface of this region due to the increase of OP/CC ratio.

Abstract

The development of a new atom-economical In[(OTf).sub.3]-catalyzed synthesis of ring-condensed heteroaromatic compounds via a domino intramolecular nucleophilic attack/intermolecular cycloaddition/dehydration reaction is reported. The synthesis used readily available ortho-alkynylanilines and ortho-alkynylbenzaldehydes as starting materials.

Abstract

This paper describes the concentrations of selenite, selenate and organic selenide in pore water, and selenium in sediment cores in the marginal seas. The selenium accumulation rates for the Sulu Sea and the South China Sea were 1.16 and 0.21 mg cm^yr^. The upward diffusive fluxes of dissolved selenium were estimated by using Fick’s first law. The calculated fluxes od dissolved selenium as selenate in the Sulu and South China Seas were estimated to be 0.17 and 0.88 μg cm^yr^, respectively., 本文データは一部CiNiiから複製したものである。
