Mathematics - Geometric Topology ,20F36, 57K20, 57K31, 13F60 - Abstract
We introduce a family of groups $\Gamma_n^k$ for integer parameters $n>k$. These groups originate from discussion of braid groups on $2$-surfaces. On the other hand, they turn out to be related to 3-manifolds (in particular, they lead to new relationships between braids and manifolds), triangulations (ideal triangulations) cluster algebras, dynamics of moving points, quivers, hyperbolic structures, tropical geometry, and, probably, many other areas still to be discovered. Among crucial reason of this importance of groups $\Gamma_{n}^{4}$ we mention the Ptolemy relation, Pentagon relation, cluster algebra, Stasheff polytope.

- Abstract
The goal of the research is to study the risks and innovative benefits of distance learning. The main research method is an anonymous survey of academic staff (university teachers) and students (future philologists, foreign language teachers), based on the need to clarify the situation associated with the use of distance learning technologies in the conditions of the quarantine. The following data have been obtained in the course of the study: the most significant opportunities for distance learning, the level of satisfaction with distance learning technologies, the compliance with the previously drawn up training schedule in the distance learning conditions, the satisfaction with the promptness of informing about the training schedule, the use of distance learning technologies to provide feedback, the factors that affect the quality of the implementation of distance learning technologies, the teachers' positive experience of using distance learning technologies, the use of distance learning technologies when providing students with lecture materials, as well as the use of information resources of the institution by the students. The results of the study have revealed that both students and teachers are aware of the need to work in a distance learning environment, but the coronavirus pandemic has created new risks for the higher education system, which require an innovative approach to overcoming barriers in the distance learning system. The results of the article can be used in the organization of distance learning at a humanitarian university.

- Abstract
Foreign (especially English) language learning has witnessed growing popularity in Russia over the last decades due to the enormous change in economic, political, legal, and cultural domains in the current period. The increasing need for good English speaking and writing skills put forward a demand for the accurate use of lexical items and grammatical structures by those who study English as a foreign language (EFL). Lexical and grammatical accuracy acquires a crucial importance in reasoning and argumentation. A slapdash word or syntactic construction in the argument structure may submit the listener to a conclusion, which is completely different from what the speaker implied. Such issues may be particularly frustrating in academic, legal, business, medical, and other types of institutional discourse. The rules of Aristotelian logic, underlying the good majority of reasoning structures, are generic. Therefore, it is a certain difference between the two languages, native (Russian) and foreign (English), that makes Russian students of English misinterpret logical chains and use irrelevant lexical items and grammatical constructions.

Knot concordance plays a crucial role in the low dimensional topology. We propose a very elementary techniques which allows one to construct a lot of sliceness obstructions for knots in the full torus. Our approach deals with group theoretical techniques; it is completely combinatorial, and the groups are very easy to deal with.

We define a family of Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy types for the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in thickened surfaces indexed by moduli space systems. This family includes the Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy type for the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in higher genus surfaces (see the content of the paper for the definition). The question whether different choices of moduli spaces lead to the same stable homotopy type is open.

Computer Science - Digital Libraries ,H.5.4 ,J.7 - Abstract
An alive publication is a new genre for presenting the results of scientific research, which means that scientific work is published online and then constantly developing and improving by its author. Serious errors and typos are no longer fatal, nor do they haunt the author for the rest of his or her life. The reader of an alive publication knows that the author is constantly monitoring changes occurring in this branch of science. Alive publication faces the inertia of scientific publishing traditions and, in particular, traditional bibliometrics. Unfortunately, at present, the author who supports an alive publication is dramatically losing out on many generally accepted bibliometric indicators. The alive publication encourages the development of the bibliography apparatus. Each bibliographic reference will soon have to contain such important for the reader updating on-the-fly attributes as attendance, number of external links, date of the last revision, etc. It is to be expected that as the alive publication spreads over to the scientific world, the author's concern for the publication's evolution will become like a parent's care for the development of a child. The Internet will be filled with scientific publications that do not lose their relevance over time., Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures

- Abstract
The article is devoted to the trends and transformations of philological education in the context of modern technologies development. The purpose of the research is to study the preparation specifics of philology students and to develop a new approach to their training, based on an effective educational methodology of literary and linguistic analysis of the text. To achieve this goal, exercises and methods are defined. Such methods were used as: comparison, contextual-interpretative, comparative-historical method and other general scientific methods. The study found that in a globalized world it is necessary to form new core competencies in students-philologists, namely the capacity for independent learning throughout life and motivation. It is possible to achieve this through rethinking pedagogical methods. The authors proved that the text is an important means of modern communication which is dynamically transformed which determines the need for its deep philological research. For this, the authors improved the method of preparing students of philology which is based on the introduction of modern information technologies into the system of literary and linguistic analysis of the text. Software products such as Compleat Lexical Tutor and ABBYY Compreno, in particular Compleat Lexical Tutor, make the process of text analysis easy.

Mathematics - Geometric Topology ,57M25, 57M27 - Abstract
The groups $G_n^k$ were defined by V. O. Manturov in order to describe dynamical systems in configuration systems. In the paper we consider two applications of this theory: we define a biquandle structure on the groups $G_n^k$, and construct a homomorphism from the surface singular braid monoid to the group $G_n^2$.

Mathematics - Geometric Topology ,57M25, 57M27 - Abstract
We discuss links in thickened surfaces. We define the Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy type and the Steenrod square for the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in thickened surfaces with genus$>1$. A surface means a closed oriented surface unless otherwise stated. Of course, a surface may or may not be the sphere. A thickened surface means a product manifold of a surface and the interval. A link in a thickened surface (respectively, a 3-manifold) means a submanifold of a thickened surface (respectively, a 3-manifold) which is diffeomorphic to a disjoint collection of circles. Our Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy type and our Steenrod square of links in thickened surfaces with genus$>1$ are stronger than the homotopical Khovanov homology of links in thickened surfaces with genus$>1$. It is the first meaningful Khovanov-Lipshitz-Sarkar stable homotopy type of links in 3-manifolds other than the 3-sphere. We point out that our theory has a different feature in the torus case.

23. Bringing Together Learning from Two Worlds: Lessons from a Gender-Inclusive Community Education Approach with Smallholder Farmers in Papua New Guinea

- Abstract
Smallholder farmers are the backbone of food production in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Due to an increasing need to pay for schooling and health costs, many farming families are seeking ways to move from semi-subsistence farming to activities that generate more income. The long tradition of agricultural training in PNG to support the development of farmers has focused on technology transfer and on the production of cash crops. This form of farmer education has primarily benefited men, who typically control cash crop production. It has often excluded women, whose significant engagement in it is precluded by their low literacy, low education, family responsibilities and daily work on subsistence crops. This article examines the lessons learned from a project that facilitated village-level community education workshops that sought to bring male and female heads of families together in a culturally appropriate way in order to encourage more gender-equitable planning and farming practices. Through the development and capacity building of local training teams, the project developed a critical and place-based pedagogy underpinned by gender-inclusive and asset-based community development principles.

This paper is dedicated to the discovery of one of the most important relationships in supernova cosmology - the relation between the peak luminosity of Type Ia supernovae and their luminosity decline rate after maximum light. The history of this relationship is quite long and interesting. The relationship was independently discovered by the American statistician and astronomer Bert Woodard Rust and the Soviet astronomer Yury Pavlovich Pskovskii in the 1970s. Using a limited sample of Type I supernovae they were able to show that the brighter the supernova is, the slower its luminosity declines after maximum. Only with the appearance of CCD cameras could Mark Phillips re-inspect this relationship on a new level of accuracy using a better sample of supernovae. His investigations confirmed the idea proposed earlier by Rust and Pskovskii., Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures

The minimum number of NOT gates in a logic circuit computing a Boolean function is called the inversion complexity of the function. In 1957, A. A. Markov determined the inversion complexity of every Boolean function and proved that $\lceil\log_{2}(d(f)+1)\rceil$ NOT gates are necessary and sufficient to compute any Boolean function $f$ (where $d(f)$ is the maximum number of value changes from greater to smaller over all increasing chains of tuples of variables values). This result is extended to $k$-valued functions computing in this paper. Thereupon one can use monotone functions "for free" like in the Boolean case. It is shown that the minimum sufficient number of non-monotone gates for the realization of the arbitrary $k$-valued logic function $f$ is equal to $\lceil\log_{2}(d(f)+1)\rceil$ if Post negation (function $x+1 \pmod{k}$) is used in NOT nodes and is also equal to $\lceil\log_{k}(d(f)+1)\rceil$, if {\L}ukasiewicz negation (function $k-1-x$) is used in NOT nodes. Similar extension for another classical result of A. A. Markov for the inversion complexity of a system of Boolean functions to $k$-valued logic functions has been obtained., Comment: 11 pages

In [V.O. Manturov, Non-reidemeister knot theory and its applications in dynamical systems, geometry, and topology, arxiv:1501.05208] the first named author gave the definition of $k$-free braid groups $G_n^k$. Here we establish connections between free braid groups, classical braid groups and free groups: we describe explicitly the homomorphism from (pure) braid group to $k$-free braid groups for important cases $k=3,4$. On the other hand, we construct a homomorphism from (a subgroup of) free braid groups to free groups. The relations established would allow one to construct new invariants of braids and to define new powerful and easily calculated complexities for classical braid groups.

In this paper we consider Boolean circuits over an arbitrary basis that consists of all monotone functions (with zero weight) and finite nonempty set of non-monotone functions (with unit weight). It is shown that the minimal sufficient for a realization of the Boolean function $f$ number of non-monotone gates is equal to $\lceil\log_{2}(d(f)+1)\rceil - O(1)$. - Abstract
Background: Standard 24-h antibiotic prophylaxis (AP) is widely employed to minimize the risk of infection complications (ICs) within 30 days following a radical cystectomy (RC). However, a considerable variety of prophylaxis protocols do not prevent a high ICs rate after surgery (37–67%). Therefore, antibiotic's type and its duration are still controversial for AP.(Objective: To compare standard 24-h AP with a prolonged 120-h regimen in a multicenter randomized clinical trial. Methods: Patients were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to standard 24-h AP regimen (Group A) versus the prolonged meropenem AP 120-h (Group B). The primary endpoint was an event rate defined as the frequency of ICs within 30 days. The secondary endpoint were biomarker's analysis and antibiotic re-administration rate (ArAR). Results: A total of 92 patients were enrolled. The Clavien-Dindo complications rate did not differ between the groups (p = 0.065), however the overall complication rate was higher in Group A (63.0% vs. 34.8%, p = 0.007). The infection complication rate was 2.75 times higher in the standard antibiotic prophylaxis group: 47.8% compared to 17.4% cases in Group B (p = 0.002). The new prolonged antibiotic regimen decreased the risk of ICs (OR 0.23; 95% CI 0.08–.598; p = 0.003). The event-free survival for ICs of clinical interest in group A was 7.00 days and in group B was 9.00 days (HR = 0.447; 0.191–1.050, p = 0.065). The ArAR was higher in Group A -47.8%, while in Group B it was only in 17.4% of the cases. The incidence of bacteriuria before RC was the same between groups (p = 0.666), however, after stent removal the risk of a positive culture was lower in group B (RR = 0.64; 95% CI 0.37–1.08; p = 0.05). Conclusions: The administration AP over 120-h appears to be safe and feasible, demonstrating a reduction in the total number of complications and ArAR. Astrophysics - Astrophysics of Galaxies - Abstract
We present astrometric analysis of archival data of water masers in the star-forming region Sharpless 269 (S269) IRS 2w, observed with the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry. An annual parallax of one of the bright maser features in this region was previously reported to be 0.189+/-0.008 milliarcsecond (mas) using part of the same archival data as we used. However, we found that this maser feature is not the best to represent the annual parallax to S269 IRS 2w because the morphology is remarkably elongated in the east-west direction. For this study we have selected another maser feature showing simpler morphology. This makes the new annual parallax estimate more credible. Our newly obtained annual parallax is 0.247+/-0.034 mas, corresponding to 4.05+0.65-0.49 kpc. This value is well consistent with the 3.7-3.8 kpc obtained using the kinematic distance estimates and photometric distance modulus. We considered two hypotheses for the water maser spatial distribution, a bipolar outflow and an expanding ring, in a kinematic model fitting analysis with a radially expanding flow. At this stage, any conclusions about the systemic proper motion could not be drawn from the kinematic analysis. Alternatively, we evaluated the mean proper motion to be (0.39+/-0.92, -1.27+/-0.90) mas/yr eastward and northward, respectively, from the obtained proper motions of the detected water maser features. The newly obtained annual parallax and mean proper motion give the peculiar motion of S269 IRS 2w to be (Us, Vs, Ws) of (8+/-6, -21+/-17, 1+/-18) km/s., Comment: Astrophysical Journal, in press

An approach by J.Wu describes homotopy groups $\pi_{n}(S^2)$ of the standard 2-sphere as isotopy classes of spherical $n+1$--strand Brunnian braids is investigated in the case $n=3$ for applications.

Based on the model of the space $Pol_3(n)$ of polygons in $R^3$ with limited number of vertex, which was proposed by Jean-Claude Hausmann and Allen Knutson, and developed by several authors: Jason Cantarella, Alexander Y. Grosberg, Robert Kusner, and Clayton Shonkwiler, we prove that there exists an isometric isotopy of $Pol_3(n)$, $n=7$, into itself, which transforms an arbitrary polygon to its mirror copy, and, additionally, preserves lengths of projections of polygons into the two coordinate planes, and keeps projection of polygons onto the line. The proof is based on elementary arguments with Cayley numbers. A possible generalization of the statement for greater $n$ is related with a theorem by I.James on strong Kervaire invariants in stable homotopy of spheres.

Mathematics - Geometric Topology - Abstract
In \cite {FrKn,Sbornik} it was shown that in some knot theories the crucial role is played by {\em parity}, i.e.\ a function on crossings valued in $\{0,1\}$ and behaving nicely with respect to Reidemeister moves. Any parity allows one to construct functorial mappings from knots to knots, to refine many invariants and to prove minimality theorems for knots. In the present paper, we generalise the notion of parity and construct parities with coefficients from an abelian group rather than $\mathbb{Z}_2$ and investigate them for different knot theories. For some knot theories we show that there is the universal parity, i.e.\ such a parity that any other parity factors through it. We realise that in the case of flat knots all parities originate from homology groups of underlying surfaces and, at the same time, allow one to "localise" the global homological information about the ambient space at crossings. We prove that there is only one non-trivial parity for free knots, the Gaussian parity. At the end of the paper we analyse the behaviour of some invariants constructed for some modifications of parities., Comment: 35 pages, 25 figures

Condensed Matter - Materials Science - Abstract
It is generally believed that Veselago's criterion for negative refraction cannot be fulfilled in natural materials. However, considering imaginary parts of the permittivity ({\epsilon}) and permeability ({\mu}) and for metals at not too high frequencies the general condition for negative refraction becomes extremely simple: Re({\mu}) < 0 --> Re(n) < 0. Here we demonstrate experimentally that in such natural metals as pure Co and FeCo alloy the negative values of the refractive index are achieved close to the frequency of the ferromagnetic resonance. Large values of the negative refraction can be obtained at room temperature and they can easily be tuned in moderate magnetic fields.

- Abstract
This article describes the rationale, development, and outcomes of two place-based, dual-language picture books with agricultural messages for women farmers and their families in Papua New Guinea. The purpose of the books was to disseminate better agricultural and livelihood practices to women farmers with low literacy. The books were designed and illustrated in collaboration with women farmers from two provinces. Evaluation data were collected through focus groups with local peer educators (village community educators [VCEs]). The VCEs reported changes in family practices related to marketing, budgeting, and saving that reflected messages in the books. The books helped the VCEs who had received livelihood and agricultural training to recall and implement the training in addition to sharing their knowledge. Farmers with low literacy were able to access the messages through the illustrations. Such place-based picture books are a powerful medium for low literacy women farmers and their families to learn about and reinforce positive livelihood and agricultural practices.
