5. Increasing the energy efficiency of wooden house construction

Abstract

Individual housing construction in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is actively developing. Rising housing prices in multi-storey buildings, increasing building density, and socio-demographic factors are increasing the popularity of individual construction. Technologies for such construction imply the widespread use of available local building materials, in particular wood. During the study, the designs of private houses in the settlement - the regional center of the Krasnoyarsk Territory - were analyzed. It was found that 90% of the sample examined were houses built from timber. Using simulation modeling methods, the actual thermal resistance of the enclosing structure made of timber with a cross-section of 0.15×0.15 m was determined. The calculated value was compared with the standard resistance indicator of the enclosing structure, taking into account energy saving standards. The Elcut solid modeling system was used in the work. The required heat flow power to maintain stationary heat transfer conditions was determined. It has been established that the design enclosing structure does not provide the required thermal resistance taking into account energy saving standards. It is necessary to consider a multilayer enclosing structure and increase the design resistance by insulating the outer surface of the wall with heat-insulating materials.

12. Numerical local 'hybrid' functional treatment of selected diatomic molecules: comparison of energies and multipole moments to conventional hybrid functionals

Abstract

New local "hybrid" functionals proposed by V. V. Karasiev in [J. Chem. Phys. {\bf 118}, 8567 (2003)] are benchmarked against nonlocal hybrid functionals. Their performance is tested on the total and high occupied orbital energies, as well as the electric moments of selected diatomic molecules. The new functionals, along with the Hartree-Fock and non-hybrid functionals, are employed for finite-difference calculations, which are basis-independent. Basis set errors in the total energy and electric moments are calculated for the 6-311G, 6-311G++G(3df,3pd) and AUG-cc-pVnZ (n=3,4,6) basis sets used in conjunction with the Hartree-Fock and conventional density functional methods. A comparison between the results of the finite-difference local "hybrid" and basis set nonlocal hybrid functional shows that total energies of local and nonlocal hybrid functionals agree to within the basis set error. Discrepancies for multipole moments are larger in magnitude when compared to the basis set errors, but still reasonably small (smaller than errors produced by the 6-311G basis set). Thus, we recommend using the new local "hybrid" functionals whenever the accuracy is expected to be sufficient, because they require a solution of just differential Kohn-Sham equations, instead of integro-differential ones in the case of hybrid functionals.

Abstract

Using a combination of self-consistent field theory with coarse-grained Brownian dynamics simulations, we studied mechanical unfolding of an amphiphilic molecular brush in a solvent that was poor for the side chains but good for the main chain of the brush. In striking contrast to earlier theoretical predictions [O. V. Borisov and A. Halperin, Europhys. Lett. 34, 657 (1996)] made for amphiphilic graft copolymers, we discovered that in a partially unfolded molecular brush, a globular core co-exists, at equilibrium, with a necklace of smaller sized intra-molecular micelles, each comprising a few side chains connected by stretched main chain strands (bridges). A progressive increase in the main chain end-to-end distance of the brush triggers a sequence of discrete events of generation of new intramolecular micelles, giving rise to a sawtooth pattern in the restoring force–deformation curve. Abstract

The present paper is devoted to the investigation of the formation process and growth of Gd2Ti2O7nanocrystals with a pyrochlore structure doped with Sm3+and Nd3+ions. During the Gd2Ti2O7:Sm3+/Nd3+nanoparticles synthesis, aqueous solutions of gadolinium, samarium and neodymium nitrates were added to a mixture of titanium isopropoxide, and polyethylene glycol was diluted with isopropyl alcohol, after which the resulting substance was evaporated to a gel state and heat-treated according to a two-stage scheme. As a result of the study, it has been shown that the forming material had a trabecular structure with a developed network of macro- and micropores. The use of a two-stage heat treatment promotes uniform distribution of different nature atoms in resulting samples. In addition it has been concluded that gadolinium titanate crystalls with a pyrochlore structure is formed by an aggregation mechanism at 700 °C from an X-ray amorphous precursor. From the point of view of obtaining a single-phase material, a possibility of varying nanocrystals dimensions and the pyrochlore structure defectiveness, annealing of the precursor in the temperature range of 750 – 900 °C is most promising. In this case, the most significant percentage of Sm3+and Nd3+ions, which change their localization with increasing synthesis temperature, are incorporated into the crystal structure of Gd2Ti2O7. Doping of Gd2Ti2O7nanocrystals not only leads to appearance of expected photoluminescence, but also contributes to manifestation of extraordinary effects in dielectric characteristics of such a material.
