The two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae is considered to be one of the. most economically important pests, since it infests over 200 species of plants (Johnson 1991). Beauveria bassiana is highly control agent to this mite, and affects its mortality biochemistry and physiolology. To test this effect the B. bassiana was applied at 105 spores / ml using dipping leaf - disc treatment method. Mortality, total proteins, carbohydrates and lipids of mite were measured; Mites adult females were susceptible to B. bassiana, with high mortality rate recorded. The effect of B. bassiana on proteins level in the mycosed extract homogenate appeared, decreasing than the non-mycosed during the period of experiment. The means of total protiens are 225,220 and 183 µg/ml after 24,48 and 72hrs respectively, compared with 327 µg/1000 individuals in untreated control. Effect of the B. bassiana on the level .of the carbohydrates decreased in the treated extract homogenate than the untreated one during the period of experiment. The mean of total carbohydrates at 24,48 and 72 hrs after treatment were 142,138 and 115 µg/ml respectively, compared with149 µg/1000 ml, In untreated control. The effect of B. bassiana on lipids level in treated extract homogenate appeared decreasing than in untreated one during the period of experiment. The obtained result refer to the mean total lipids were 92,77, and 70 µg/ml after 24,48 and 72 hrs, respectively compared with 88 µg/1000 individuals untreated adult females of T. urticae. This study improves that entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana causes many biochemical and physiological changes in the mite Tetranychus urticae. The article presents a study which identifies the sensory nerves which elicit the glottic closure reflex (GCR) in pigs. The glottic closing force (GCF) elicited in this reflex was measured. Laryngeal electromyography was used to detect GCR and a pressure transducer measured the GCF. The superior laryngeal nerve was the only afferent nerve that elicits the GCR in pigs. 288.9 mm Hg was the average GCF.

The article focuses on an article "A Comparative Monte Carlo Study of the Properties of Econometric Estimators," by W. M. Mikhail that was published in the March 1975 issue of the "Journal of the American Statistical Association." Together with straightforward simulation, this study makes use of antithetic- variate and control-variate techniques in investigating the properties of econometric estimators. It is shown that when the covariances between the disturbances are small, the results on the relative standing of the estimators are indeterminate; but when they are sufficiently large, full-information methods are superior to single-equation methods.

Objectives: The UK & Ireland Implanters' registry is a multicenter registry which reports on real-world experience with novel transcatheter heart valves., Background: The 34 mm Evolut R transcatheter aortic valve is a self-expanding and fully recapturable transcatheter aortic valve, designed to treat patients with a large aortic annulus., Methods: Between January 2017 and April 2018, clinical, procedural and 30-day outcome data were prospectively collected from all patients receiving the 34 mm Evolut R valve across 17 participating centers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The primary efficacy outcome was the Valve Academic Research Consortium-2(VARC-2)-defined endpoint of device success. The primary safety outcome was the VARC-2-defined composite endpoint of early safety at 30 days., Results: A total of 217 patients underwent attempted implant. Mean age was 79.5 ± 8.8 years and Society of Thoracic Surgeons Predicted Risk of Mortality Score 5.2% ± 3.4%. Iliofemoral access was used in 91.2% of patients. Device success was 79.7%. Mean gradient was 7.0 ± 4.6 mmHg and effective orifice area 2.0 ± 0.6 cm 2 . Paravalvular regurgitation was more than mild in 7.2%. A new permanent pacemaker was implanted in 15.7%. Early safety was demonstrated in 91.2%. At 30 days, all-cause mortality was 3.2%, stroke 3.7%, and major vascular complication 2.3%., Conclusions: Real-world experience of the 34 mm Evolut R transcatheter aortic valve demonstrated acceptable procedural success, safety, valve function, and incidence of new permanent pacemaker implantation., (© 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)

Cemented revision with impaction grafting shows encouraging early clinical results; postoperative biopsy specimens taken from the proximal femur in humans have demonstrated viable trabecular and cortical bone. Human radiographic studies also illustrate density changes within the proximal femur, consistent with remodeling of bone-graft. In an animal experiment, bone incorporation was shown in the proximal femur, but graft lysis was reported around the distal portion of the implant. We report on a patient who sustained a traumatic femoral fracture at the level of the tip of the femoral component 27 months after revision with impaction grafting and a collarless polished taper stem. At the time of open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture, we obtained circumferential biopsy specimens from the fracture site. Three distinct zones could be identified histologically: i) an inner zone consisting of bone-cement, fibrous tissue, and partially necrotic trabeculae with evidence of bone remodeling; ii) a middle zone consisting of viable trabecular bone and probable neocortex formation with fewer particles of bone-cement; and iii) an outer zone with viable cortex. Fibrous tissue was present around some of the incorporating bone-graft fragments, but no continuous fibrous membrane was present. Cement particles were identified, but no polyethylene debris was found by light microscopy. Biopsy specimens from the distal aspect of the prosthesis may not reflect changes seen proximally, but based on the available tissue, this case illustrated histological evidence of bone-graft remodeling after impaction grafting. These results are consistent with our expectations based on radiographic findings and clinical results.

The purpose of this study was to compare the intermediate results of total hp arthroplasty with a cemented, collarless, femoral prosthesis design (Exeter, Howmedica, Middlesex, UK and CPT, Zimmer, Warsaw, IN) with those of a cementless, collarless, porous-coated femoral component (PCA, Howmedica). A total of 151 hips in 128 patients were reviewed. In the cemented group, 85 Exeter-CPT prostheses were used in 71 patients with an average follow-up period of 6.5 years. In the uncemented group, 66 PCA prostheses were placed in 57 patients with an average follow-up period of 7 years. Harrington hip scores improved from 50.1 to 80.7 for the PCA group and from 49.5 to 87.3 for the Exeter-CPT group. The patient satisfaction rates were 89 and 96%, respectively. Sixty-eight patients with Exeter or CPT prostheses had excellent function and no significant thigh pain after 2 years. One Exeter stem was revised 10 years after the primary surgery because of aseptic osteolysis due to cement defect. Two Exeter sockets were revised because of aseptic loosening. In the PCA group, the incidence of thigh pain that persisted beyond 2 years was 39.4%, and there were high incidences of distal cortical hypertrophy (66.6%) and bead loosening (45.5%). Sixteen hips were revised for aseptic stem loosening of the socket. The cementless ingrowth stems failed earlier (around 5 years), whereas the cemented stems continued to perform well past 14 years. In this study, the cemented, collarless, tapered, femoral prosthesis gave results superior to those of the uncemented collarless, porous-coated anatomic design at an average follow-up period of 7 years (range, 2-14 years).

One hundred forty patients ranging in age from 26 to 88 years, who had primary total hip arthroplasty (performed by the same surgeon and lateral surgical approach), were analyzed for intraoperative and postoperative blood loss. The factors affecting blood loss, which include bleeding disorders, medications, duration of surgery, the mean intraoperative blood pressure, and use of cement, were all recorded. A significant reduction in the intraoperative blood loss was observed in the group of patients with hypotensive anesthesia (greater than 20 mmHg drop in the mean intraoperative blood pressure using inhalation anesthetics) compared to the group of patients who did not have hypotensive anesthesia. The patients who had been on aspirin or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs prior to surgery had increased intraoperative and postoperative blood loss compared to the patients who did not take such medications. The effect of cementing with methylmethacrylate on bleeding was also observed; the patients with uncemented implants had a greater blood loss after operation than the patients who had cemented prosthetic components.

A significant decrease in the pH of saliva has been detected in patients with recurrent aphthous ulcers (RAU). The decrease in pH was more prominent at night than between meals, and some persistent decrease was noticed even after recovery. The total proteins of saliva in RAU were also significantly decreased. These findings were similar to those observed in patients complaining of peptic ulcers, so it is recommended that patients with RAU should be treated with antacids as well as anticholinergic drugs, and that the possibility of concomitant peptic ulceration should also be investigated.
