The article deals with the category of textuality manifested in narrative texts. This category can be described as a system of 13 elements (subcategories). These subcategories are focused on reflecting the connections of the author and his text (the hierarchy of textual constructions, narrative implication, the presence of logical connections in the text, subjectivity of the presentation of the material), the author and the narrated reality (the presence of a special mode of narration, temporal localiza- tion, detail / conciseness of the presentation), the author and those cognitive structures that are in his mind (the ability of text fragments to be built on certain models), the author and the reader (the presence in the text of a riddle that needs to be solved by the reader, the reflection in the text of the elements of the game, into which the characters of the narrative come). The article also provides examples demonstrating the implementation of these text categories. The present work expresses the author’s opinion on the differentiation of linguistic, psychological and literary approaches to the narrative. Information is given about the category of textuality in its form, which has developed in modern science.

The vast range of mackerel covers tropical, subtropical and temperate zones of the World Ocean, including the Mediterranean, Marmara and Black Seas. The article analyzes the current state of mackerel fishing in the Central-Eastern Atlantic, where domestic pelagic fishing has been conducted since 1962, international – since 1964.

Dofetilide is a rapid delayed rectifier potassium current inhibitor widely used to prevent the recurrence of atrial fibrillation and flutter. The clinical use of this drug is associated with increases in QTc interval, which predispose patients to ventricular cardiac arrhythmias. The mechanisms involved in the disposition of dofetilide, including its movement in and out of cardiomyocytes, remain unknown. Using a xenobiotic transporter screen, we identified MATE1 (SLC47A1) as a transporter of dofetilide and found that genetic knockout or pharmacological inhibition of MATE1 in mice was associated with enhanced retention of dofetilide in cardiomyocytes and increased QTc prolongation. The urinary excretion of dofetilide was also dependent on the MATE1 genotype, and we found that this transport mechanism provides a mechanistic basis for previously recorded drug-drug interactions of dofetilide with various contraindicated drugs, including bictegravir, cimetidine, ketoconazole, and verapamil. The translational significance of these observations was examined with a physiologically-based pharmacokinetic model that adequately predicted the drug-drug interaction liabilities in humans. These findings support the thesis that MATE1 serves a conserved cardioprotective role by restricting excessive cellular accumulation and warrant caution against the concurrent administration of potent MATE1 inhibitors and cardiotoxic substrates with a narrow therapeutic window.

The article deals with the narrative text construction. The study thoroughly analyzes cognitive models that can become the basis of this process. Firstly, the author is studying the theory of rhetoricalcommonplaces. The article shows that this theory is suitable for constructing a rhetorical text, but not a narrative one. The second model discussed is the concept model. The article argues that this model is most convenient for text analysis, but not for its formation. Marvin Minsky's frame theory is analyzed in detail. It is stated that the theory of frames and individual narrative concepts, in particular those formulated by R. Barth, have much in common. It is concluded that the theory of frames can be perceived as the ontological basis of the narrative scientific description. In addition, the article briefly discusses the cognitive model by R. Quillian and R. Langacker. Their essence is to highlight the main and secondary content in the text. The possibility of using these models in the text analysis and its synthesis is proved by their conceptual similarity with G.Y. Solganik’s analysis of the novel by L. Tolstoy. Special attention is paid to the theory of R. Abelson. It is argued that the proposed hierarchy of cognitive structures has a generalizing character and is adequate to the text. The article gives an example based on a local narrative figure analysis undertaken by V.V. Vinogradov. The paper indicates the possibility to describe this figure within Abelson's theory. As a result of different cognitive models and narrative conceptscomparison, the article formulates the sequence of stages in the analysis and synthesis of text units found at different levels. The first stage of this sequence is the narrative figures analysis. The second one is the analysis of episodes, which are narrative figures associations. The third one is the analysis of the text plot structures. It is proposed to consider text units as realizations of cognitive structures. It is argued that the cognitive approach to the narrative provides its holistic and detailed adequate description.

For improving the dynamic range and sensitivity at high power load, we have integrated superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor (SINIS) bolometers with a frequency selective surface (FSS)-based distributed absorber formed by a series and parallel array consisting of 25 annular antenna elements, each containing two SINIS bolometers. By using a design with 50 bolometers, we reduce incident power load on each bolometer, increase sensitivity and saturation power which is important for ground-based and balloon-borne telescopes with high background power loads. Our main detector pixel is optimized for a frequency band centered at 345GHz. The detectors are matched to incoming telescope beam by a back-to-back horn with a back reflector. Such a configuration improves both the efficiency and the bandwidth of the receiver. Measured voltage responsivity approaches 210(9) VW with an amplifier-limited voltage noise of 20nVHz(12), which corresponds to a NEP 10(-17) WHz(12). The linear voltage response for incoming power is observed for absorbed power of about 5 pW. The current responsivity for parallel array is 210(4) AW and the shot noise limited intrinsic noise equivalent power is NEP 510(-18)WHz(12). The noise equivalent temperature difference is NETD 100 KHz(12) at 2.7-K background radiation temperature.

As is known, the concept of economic efficiency is one of the important categories characterizing the performance of reindeer herding farms. From the point of view of the theory of economic analysis, there is no unified definition of economic efficiency, which means that, as seems to us, the success of reindeer herding farms is still not determined sufficiently. In the article, we also prove that defining the economic efficiency of reindeer husbandry only by the meat production efficiency is not sufficient because the meat production process is not integrated with the processing of reindeer herding products and its sales. As a result, the economic efficiency of reindeer herding production is severely underestimated and leads to low profitability or even losses. The economic efficiency of production can be determined at the national, branch, enterprise and on-farm subdivision, i.e. there is a multilevel approach to the criteria of efficiency or duality of the criteria of efficiency. It is known that indicators of economic efficiency include cost recovery, net production, profit, profitability, rate of return, productivity of live labour, that is, economic efficiency of production is characterised by the ratio of economic effect to costs, which caused this effect. Analyzing the approaches to assessing the efficiency of reindeer herding farms, we came to the conclusion that an integrated approach should be added to the existing ones, as the meat production process is not integrated with the processing of reindeer herding products and their sales, as a result, the economic efficiency of reindeer herding products is greatly underestimated. However, reindeer breeding farms, which receive essentially ecologically pure meat, do not have special prices for it established by the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The establishment of such prices at the regional level would significantly raise the efficiency of reindeer breeding as a branch of economy as a whole. The main task of reindeer farms in the North-East of Russia, which includes the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) at the present stage is a high average slaughter meat of reindeer carcasses, equal to 65-90 kg. and higher. This main indicator should not be bypassed or denied by zootechnicians, scientists, and heads of agricultural production. Production of cheap high-quality venison meat. - is the key to success.

Samples of superconductor–insulator–superconductor (SIS) and normal metal–insulator–superconductor (NIS) junctions with superconducting aluminum of different thickness were fabricated and experimentally studied, starting from conventional shadow evaporation with a suspended resist bridge. We also developed alternative fabrication by magnetron sputtering with two-step direct e-beam patterning. We compared Al film grain size, surface roughness, resistivity deposited by thermal evaporation and magnetron sputtering. The best-quality NIS junctions with large superconducting electrodes approached a resistance R(0)/R(V2Δ) factor ratio of 1000 at 0.3 K and over 10,000 at 0.1 K. At 0.1 K, R(0) was determined completely by the Andreev current. The contribution of the single-electron current dominated at V > VΔ/2. The single-electron resistance extrapolated to V = 0 exceeded the resistance R(V2Δ) by 3 × 109. We measured the influence of the magnetic field on NIS junctions and described the mechanism of additional conductivity due to induced Abrikosov vortices. The modified shape of the SINIS bolometer IV curve was explained by Joule overheating via NIN (normal metal–insulator–normal metal) channels.

Calmodulin (CaM) mutants are associated with severe arrhythmias (calmodulinopathy). While dysregulation of Ca 2+ handling proteins (RyR2, Ca V 1.2) are known mediators of calmodulinopathy, the role of Na + channels (Na V s) remains unclear. Interestingly, effects on Ca V 1.2 do not fully explain action potential (AP) prolongation by the long QT syndrome CaM mutant D96V. We investigated Na V dysregulation by D96V-CaM and its arrhythmogenic impact. In wild-type (WT) murine cardiomyocytes (CM) dialysis of D96V-CaM (6.5 μM) via a patch pipette prolonged AP, induced early and delayed afterdepolarizations (EADs and DADs) and increased Ca 2+ waves compared to WT-CaM. The effects of D96V-CaM were abrogated by a Na V 1.6 blocker, 4,9-anhydrotetrodotoxin (4,9ahTTX, 300 nM; Fig. 1A ). Dialysis of D96V-CaM dysregulated inactivation of 4,9ahTTX-sensitive Na + current (I Na ) promoting late I Na in WT murine CM ( Fig. 1B ) and in Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells expressing Na V 1.6 but not Na V 1.5. D96V-CaM, but not WT-CaM, also promoted late I Na in human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) - derived ventricular myocytes, underscoring translational relevance ( Fig. 1C ). To examine the arrhythmia potential of Na V 1.6 dysregulation by D96V-CaM, we generated mice with cardiac-specific expression of D96V-CaM (cD96V; tgD96V-CaM x β-MHC-Cre). cD96V mice exhibited increased late I Na and Ca 2+ waves resembling those in D96V-CaM-dialyzed WT CMs. In vivo cD96V mice evidenced prolonged QTc intervals and ventricular tachycardia (VT) during bradycardia (carbachol 0.5 mg/kg intraperitoneal). Cardiac-specific Na V 1.6 knockout protected cD96V mice from impaired I Na inactivation and arrhythmogenic Ca 2+ waves on cellular level as well as long QT and VT in vivo ( Fig. 1D, E ). In summary, D96V-CaM promotes arrhythmias by dysregulating Na V 1.6 and thereby, facilitating aberrant Ca 2+ release. Importantly, Na V 1.6 may be a therapeutic target for management of CaM-related arrhythmias.

Calmodulin facilitates normal sodium channel (Na V ) inactivation, necessary to prevent proarrhythmic late sodium current (I Na ). Previous studies have implicated Na V 1.6 dysfunction in late I Na -mediated arrhythmias. Therefore we investigated Na V dysregulation by arrhythmogenic CaM mutant D96V. Chinese hamster ovary cells expressing Na V 1.6 were transfected with either WT- or D96V-CaM. STED microscopy revealed enlarged Na V 1.6 clusters in cells receiving D96V-CaM relative to WT. Therefore we explored Na V 1.6 remodeling in transgenic mice with cardiac-specific expression of D96V-CaM (cD96V). Confocal microscopy confirmed expression of Na V 1.6 and FLAG-tagged D96V-CaM in a striated pattern along with RyR2 in cD96V hearts, consistent with T-tubular localization. STORM microscopy enabled the quantitative assessment of Na V 1.6 clustering. In both WT and cD96V hearts, ~50% of Na V 1.6 clusters localized V 1.6 density within these regions increased 67% in cD96V relative to WT. We probed the functional impact of this surprising remodeling using SICM-guided “smart” patch clamp recording of NaV activity from T-tubule openings. The number of NaVs as well as frequency of late Na V 1.6 burst openings were significantly increased in cD96V myocytes relative to WT (Fig 1). Previous work implicates aberrant late Na V 1.6 activity in proarrhythmic Ca2+ mishandling. Indeed, STORM revealed significant enrichment of NCX near Na V 1.6 in both WT and cD96V. Consistent with these data cD96V myocytes displayed larger, more frequent Ca2+ sparks relative to WT. This effect was reversed by cardiac-specific Na V 1.6 knockout. To our knowledge, this is the first report of proarrhythmic cardiac structural remodeling secondary to a defect in calmodulin, which may shed mechanistic insight into calmodulinopathy.

Calmodulin (CaM) prevents proarrhythmic late sodium current (INa) by facilitating normal inactivation of sodium channels (NaV). Since dysfunction of NaV1.6 has been implicated in late INa-mediated arrhythmias, we investigated its role in arrhythmias promoted by CaM mutant D96V. Super-resolution STED microscopy revealed enlarged NaV1.6 clusters in NaV1.6-expressing Chinese hamster ovary cells transfected with D96V-CaM relative to those transfected with WT-CaM. Therefore, we examined NaV1.6 clustering in transgenic mice with cardiac-specific expression of D96V-CaM (cD96V) with a C-terminal FLAG tag. Confocal microscopy confirmed expression of NaV1.6 and FLAG-tagged D96V-CaM in a striated pattern along with RYR2 in cD96V hearts, consistent with T-tubular localization. In both WT and cD96V hearts, STORM single molecule localization microscopy revealed that ∼50% of NaV1.6 clusters localized

To determine mutations in the plasma KRAS gene in patients with colorectal cancer was the aim of this study. The material was obtained from 44 patients with colorectal cancer of different stages (T1-4N0-2bM0-1c). Plasma for the presence of KRAS gene mutation in circulating tumor DNA was investigated using digital droplet polymerase chain reaction (PCR). KRAS mutations in circulating tumor DNA isolated from 1 ml of plasma were detected in 13 (30%) patients with cancer of different stages. Of these, with stage II, there were 3 patients, with III - 5 and with IV - 5. Patients who did not have mutations in 1 ml of plasma were analyzed for mutations of KRAS in circulating tumor DNA isolated from 3 ml of plasma. Five more patients with KRAS mutations were found with II and III stages. The highest concentrations of circulating tumor DNA with KRAS mutation were found in patients with stage IV. The increase in plasma volume to 3 ml did not lead to the identification of mutations in I stage. This study showed that digital droplet PCR allows identification of circulating tumor DNA with the KRAS mutations in patients with stage II-IV of colon cancer. The results can be used to determine the degree of aggressiveness of the tumor at different stages of the disease, but not the 1st, and it is recommended to use a plasma volume of at least 3 ml.

Microwave detectors of the Metal-Insulator-Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIMIM) structure and the Superconductor-Insulator-Metal-Insulator-Superconductor (SIMIS) structure have been designed, fabricated and investigated. The difference of such samples was in external electrodes, MIMIM uses copper external electrodes, while SIMIS uses aluminum. Identical in dimensions MIMIM and SIMIS samples have been fabricated and experimentally studied in the temperature range of 0.1–2.7 K. Voltage and current response were measured at 300 GHz external irradiation using Backward Wave Oscillator (BWO). According to our estimates, the MIMIM current responsivity is 1.1·103 A/W in the case of a photon response and 4·104 A/W in the case of a bolometric response. The estimated noise equivalent power is in the range 2.5·10 18 W/ √ Hz to 1.2·10−19 W/√Hz.

Background Experimental studies of radiofrequency renal denervation (RDN) have shown a strong relation of the depth of structural lesions and completeness of renal nerve injury to the relative drop in impedance during the treatment caused by the increased permeability of the cell membranes. Thus, the otherwise successful treatments but with low impedance drop may be, in fact, totally ineffective. Objective We assessed the relation between impedance drop during single radiofrequency treatments and local structural changes of vascular wall at the electrode positions using optical coherence tomography. Methods Optical coherence tomography of the treated segments was performed during radiofrequency RDN in 14 patients with resistant hypertension. The parameters of contrast injection depended on the position of the guiding catheter: for selective branch imaging 15 ml volume was injected at 8 ml/sec speed; otherwise 30 ml of contrast was injected at the speed 15 ml/sec to flush the whole renal artery. Automatic pullback of the sensor was done with the standard speed 20 mm/sec. In total, 423 mm of treated segments in 22 renal vessels (mostly distal branches) had sufficient quality of imaging and were studied for structural changes. Results There was almost no local structural changes of the arterial wall after the treatments with low impedance drop Conclusion Our study shows that variable efficacy of radiofrequency RDN may be explained by a significant proportion of the small-depth point treatments ineffective in terms of renal nerve injury, and, thereby, may be significantly improved if the procedure is guided by the impedance drop during the treatment. Background: today&rsquo, s standard quality control methods used to control the protein composition of inactivated influenza vaccines only take into account a few key reference components. They do not allow for thorough characterization of protein compositions. As a result, observation of unpredictable variations in major viral constituents and admixtures of cellular proteins within manufactured vaccines that may seriously influence the immunogenicity and safety of such vaccines has become a pressing issue in vaccinology. This study aims at testing a more sophisticated approach for analysis of inactivated split influenza vaccines licensed in the Russian Federation. The formulations under study are the most available on the market and are included in the Russian National Immunization Program. Methods: liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis, in combination with label-free protein quantitation via the intensity-based absolute-quantitation (iBAQ) algorithm, as well as a number of standard molecular analysis methods, such as sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and negative-stain transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were applied. Results: the methods implemented were able to identify dozens of viral and host proteins and quantify their relative amounts within the final formulations of different commercially available inactivated split influenza vaccines. Investigation of molecular morphology of the vaccine preparations using TEM revealed typical rosettes of major surface proteins (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase). DLS was used to demonstrate a size distribution of the rosettes and to test the stability of vaccine preparations at increased temperatures. Conclusions: a holistic approach based on modern, highly productive analytical procedures was for the first time applied for a series of different commercially available inactivated split influenza vaccines licensed in Russia. The protocols probed may be suggested for the post-marketing quality control of vaccines. Comparison of different preparations revealed that the Ultrix&reg, and Ultrix&reg, Quadri vaccines produced by pharmaceutical plant FORT LLC and trivalent vaccine Vaxigrip&reg, produced by pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur have well-organized antigen rosettes, they contain fewer admixture quantities of host cell proteins, and demonstrate good correlation among mostly abundant viral proteins detected by different methods.

Background: This study aims to examine the factors involved in anastomotic leak (AL) following low anterior resection and total mesorectal excision (LAR-TME) and to determine the usefulness of early measurement of the inflammatory biomarkers C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and Procalcitonin (PCT). Methods: One hundred patients undergoing LAR-TME with a proximal diverting stoma were analyzed between 2013 and 2016. Postoperative CRP and PCT levels were measured on the 3rd and the 6th postoperative days. Results: There were 11 clinical leaks with a negative impact in univariate analysis on AL of male gender, larger and stenotic tumours, intraoperative blood loss > 200 mL, the need for perioperative blood transfusion, postoperative anaemia and an operating time exceeding 180 minutes. On multivariate analysis, only perioperative blood transfusion was an independent AL risk factor. Recorded CRP was higher in AL patients when compared with non-AL cases on both the 3rd postoperative day (152.4 mg/L vs. 93 mg/L, respectively; P < 0.0001) and the 6th postoperative day (130.5 mg/L vs. 68.2 mg/L; P < 0.0001). The PCT levels also significantly differed between AL and non-AL cases on the 3rd postoperative day (0.5 ng/mL vs. 0.2 ng/mL, respectively; P < 0.0001) and the 6th postoperative day (1.16 ng/mL vs. 0.1 ng/mL, respectively; P < 0.0001). Both CRP and PCT showed high negative predictive values (NPV) for the diagnosis of an AL on both postoperative days. Conclusion: Following low restorative proctectomy, the high NPV of CRP and PCT measurements for the diagnosis of anastomotic leaks may assist decision-making for early hospital discharge.

An overview of different arrays of electrically small annular antennas of 350 GHz band with integrated superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor (SINIS) detectors is presented in this paper. Arrays developed for both astronomical observations on the BTA 6 m telescope and measurements there of test sources for investigation of atmospheric turbulence to estimate its influence on the data rate of subTHz telecommunication channels. It is shown both numerically and experimentally that to simulate the electrodynamics of such non-phased antenna arrays it is necessary to investigate the whole array, not a single cell with Floquet ports. The first results of studying of superconducting antennas are also presented in this paper.

Pronounced conductance due to electrons experiencing Andreev reflection from a superconducting condensate has been observed in superconductor (aluminum)–insulator (aluminum oxide)–normal metal (copper) tunnel junctions at low voltages, along with single-electron tunneling. It has been discovered experimentally that the collective current is suppressed in the magnetic field parallel to the tunnel junction plane and the Andreev conductance decreases nearly twofold in a field of ∼20–30 mT.

The influence of a magnetic field on the conductivity of superconductivity–insulator–normal metal tunnel junctions with aluminum superconducting electrodes has been investigated. The area of the junctions was 2 µm2 and the thickness of the superconducting aluminum electrodes was 80 nm. The nonlinearity of the current–voltage characteristics has been observed at temperatures of 100–400 mK in a transverse field of up to 28 mT, which is approximately three times greater than the critical field for pure bulk aluminum. The conductivity at zero bias voltage increased with the field by 2–4 orders of magnitude. The effect is hysteretic. It can be caused by the emergence of a vortex structure in the magnetic field above the first critical field in the aluminum film, which becomes a type-II superconductor owing to its small thickness, impurities, and structural defects.

The article describes how in extreme, harsh natural and climatic conditions of the Arctic, such activities as cattle breeding, horse breeding, reindeer husbandry, hunting, and fishing are conducted. Effective development of northern settlements, active construction and operation of inter-district highways are reviewed and justified. Attention is drawn to the acute problem of training, retraining, and securing qualified specialists in the North, providing them with housing. It is recommended to develop proposals on the issues of credit and financial and tax policy, logistics, which are related to the northern state policy, as well as targeted control over the timing of the transfer and targeted funds for the purpose and their use. The goal is to justify measures to stimulate the development of settlements of the Arctic zone of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Methodology: the study of existing regulations and their retrospective analysis. Results: Reasonable proposals for stimulating the development of the settlements.

We have developed a bolometer with a suspended normal-metal absorber connected to superconducting leads via tunneling barriers. Such an absorber has reduced heat losses to the substrate, which greatly increases the responsivity of the bolometer to over 10(9) V/W at 75 mK when measured by dc Joule heating of the absorber. For high-frequency experiments, the bolometers have been integrated in planar twin-slot and log-periodic antennas. At 300GHz and 100 mK, the bolometer demonstrates the voltage and current response of 3 x 10(8) V/W and 1.1 x 10(4) A/W, respectively, corresponding to the quantum efficiency of similar to 15 electrons per photon. An effective thermalization of electrons in the absorber favors the high quantum efficiency. We also report on how the in-plane-and transverse magnetic fields influence the device characteristics.

Cold-electron bolometers (CEBs) integrated with twin-slot antennas have been designed and fabricated. Optical response was measured at bath temperatures of 0.06 to 3 K using blackbody radiation source at temperatures of 3 to 15 K. The responsivity of $0.3 \ast 10^{9}\ \hbox{V/W}$ was measured at 2.7-K blackbody temperature that is close to the temperature of the cosmic microwave background. Optical measurements indicate quasi-optical coupling efficiency of up to 60% at low phonon temperature and low signal level. Estimations for bolometer responsivity were made for practical range of bath temperatures and blackbody radiation temperatures. The estimated ultimate dark responsivity at 100-mK bath temperature can approach $S_{V} =\break 10^{10}\ \hbox{V/W}$ and reduces down to $1.1 \ast 10^{8}\ \hbox{V/W}$ at 300 mK for a device with absorber volume of $5 \ast 10^{-20}\ \hbox{m}^{3}$ .

Bolometers, which are based on superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor structures integrated into double slot antennas, are designed and fabricated. The change in the tunneling current in such structures during irradiation at a frequency of 330 GHz is experimentally studied at a temperature of about 0.1 K. It is found that, during irradiation, the energy distribution of electrons has a substantially nonequilibrium form, which differs from the Fermi distribution, and the main contribution to the addition to the tunneling current is made by the electrons that have no time to attain equilibrium within the electron system of the normal metal absorber. The characteristic electron and phonon relaxation times are estimated, and the estimates support the fact that the electron system is strongly nonequilibrium in the radiation field.

In this paper, we describe a bolometric focal plane array consisting of the cold electron bolometer (CEB) integrated in a frequency selective surface (FSS) fabricated on a silicon substrate with a backshort. This array is formed by a periodic pattern of conducting annular square and ring shapes and the two-terminal CEB is embedded directly in the element. The impedance of the CEB has been matched to the FSS which provides resonant interaction with incident sub-millimetre radiation. A further degree-of-freedom for the tuning is via varying the thickness of the substrate. We have been able to design the FSS at 350 GHz with peak coupling of more than 90% as is common for FSS based filters. A prototype of such a detector has been fabricated and optical response to blackbody radiation has been measured, indicating responsivities of $2\ast 10 ^{9}~{\hbox{V}}/{\hbox{W}}$ and higher at 185 mK and $3\ast 10 ^{8}~{\hbox{V}}/{\hbox{W}}$ and higher at 300 mK. The details of this new concept, together with numerical simulations and optical measurements are presented.

In this paper, we present the measurements of optical response dependence on power load of a Cold Electron Bolometer integrated in a twin slot antenna. These measurements are also compared to the models of the bolometer limit and the photon counter limit. The responsivity of ${\hbox{0.22}}\ast {\hbox{10}} ^{9} ~{\hbox{V}}/{\hbox{W}}$ was measured at 0.22 pW radiation power from a black body at 3.5 K. According to our estimations, for optimized device the voltage responsivity at 100 mK electron temperature can approach ${S} _{v} =10 ^{10} ~{\hbox{V}}/{\hbox{W}}$ for power load below 0.1 pW and decreases down to ${\hbox{10}} ^{7} ~{\hbox{V}}/{\hbox{W}}$ at 300 mK for 5 pW signal power in a sample with absorber volume of ${\hbox{5}}\ast {\hbox{10}} ^{-20} ~{\hbox{m}} ^{3}$ . In the case of low bath temperatures and high applied RF power the changes of tunneling current, dynamic resistance and voltage response are explained by non-thermal energy distribution of excited electrons. Distribution of excited electrons in such system at lower temperatures can be of non-Fermi type, hot electrons with energies of the order of 1 K tunnel from normal metal absorber to superconductor instead of relaxing down to thermal energy ${kT} _{e}$ in absorber before tunneling. This effect can reduce quantum efficiency of the bolometer at 350 GHz from $\eta ={hf}/{kT} _{\rm ph} > 100$ in ideal case down to single electron per absorbed photon ( $\eta =1$ ) in the high power case. Methods of preserving high quantum efficiency are discussed.

The Cold-Electron Bolometer (CEB) is a sensitive millimetre-wave detector which is easy to integrate with superconducting planar circuits. CEB detectors have other important features such as high saturation power and very fast response. We have fabricated and tested CEB detectors integrated across the slot of a unilateral finline on a silicon substrate. Bolometers were fabricated using two fabrication methods: e-beam direct-write trilayer technology and an advanced shadow mask evaporation technique. The CEB performance was tested in a He3 sorption cryostat at a bath temperature of 280mK. DC I-V curves and temperature responses were measured in a current bias mode, and preliminary measurements of the optical response were made using an IMPATT diode operating at 110GHz. These tests were conducted by coupling power directly into the finline chip, without the use of waveguide or feedhorns. For the devices fabricated in standard direct-write technology, the bolometer dark electrical noise equivalent power is estimated to be about 5×10-16W/ √Hz, while the dark NEP value for the shadow mask evaporation technique devices is estimated to be as low as 3×10-17W/√Hz. © 2010 SPIE.

We present the design of a low loss planar phase switch operating at millimetre and submillimetre wavelengths. The system comprises a superconducting nanostrip that switches the RF signal between the two branches of a microstrip phase circuit. The employment of superconducting components reduces conduction losses to a negligible level. The required cooling below the transition temperature does not add extra effort since all high performance detectors employ superconducting circuits, and are in fact cooled well below the transition temperature of the phase circuit material. The proposed fully planar design allows the switch to be easily integrated into the detector circuit and eventually the realisation of a fully planar receiver. This avoids the use of bulky, expensive and lossy waveguide components and allows the fabrication of reliable and cheaply mass producible polarimeters that are now routinely used in large format CMB arrays. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. A family of highly sensitive devices based on a graphene nanobridge and superconducting electrodes has been developed, manufactured, and examined. These devices can be used to create a graphene-based integral receiver. A cold-electron bolometer prototype with superconductor-insulator-normal metal tunnel junctions has been studied. Its response to a change in the temperature and external microwave radiation has been measured. A superconducting quantum interferometer with a graphene strip as a weak coupling between superconducting electrodes has been examined. The corresponding modulation of the voltage by a magnetic field at a given current has been measured. The effect of the gate voltage on the resistance of graphene has been analyzed for these samples. To confirm that graphene is single-layer, measurements with the reference samples were performed in high magnetic fields, displaying the half-integer quantum Hall effect.
