This paper will analyze the political dynamics of the last cycle of local elections in Serbia. We will refer to the existing institutional framework and the reforms in this field of electoral law that preceded the elections themselves. In this sense, the institutional paradigm will be applied in the first part to investigate the institutional context. The second section analyzes the broader socio-political context influencing turnout and election results. The third section pays attention to electoral actors, either individual parties or their coalitions. Minority parties that take part in the election game under special conditions through forms of positive discrimination are dealt with. The fourth section is devoted to forming local authorities, while a separate part is related to groups of citizens as separate political actors in local areas. The conclusion refers to the key findings of this research. Forming a particular whole with the local elections held in the city of Belgrade and another 65 municipalities, cities, and urban municipalities in central Serbia, on December 17, 2023, they showed a picture of the political scene of Serbia, its dynamics, actors at the national and local level, their strategies political struggles and, finally, electoral preferences citizens related to the political game in local political arenas. These elections were a test of sorts since they were held separately from the parliamentary elections at the end of 2023. They also provide an excellent basis for analyzing the political consequences of their separation from national elections, given that for half a year in several cities and municipalities, local elections were held simultaneously with national ones.

The appearance of cyberbullying in the digital age is a serious social problem that requires careful study and an adequate approach to its prevention. This paper analyzes the definition of cyberbullying, its characteristics, causes and consequences of this phenomenon. The progress of information and communication technologies, accompanied by the growing accessibility of the Internet, has resulted in the emergence of new forms of education, communication and entertainment. However, at the same time, the door opens to new opportunities for violent behavior. The continuous development of technology has transformed the way people interact, creating new digital spaces in which a wide range of activities take place. In such an environment, phenomena such as cyberbullying, online abuse, identity theft and other digital threats have become more and more present, at the same time causing concern to society, which results in the need for an adequate prevention and response strategy. Cyberbullying can be defined as intentional abuse or harassment of an individual through social networks, e-mail, phone calls or messages, electronic media, which is repeated over time. Considering the ubiquity of digital communication as an everyday interaction in society, a more detailed understanding of how digital violence can cause serious mental, emotional and social consequences for all exposed persons is necessary. Digital violence can be manifested in a variety of ways, not limited to cyberbullying, threats via the Internet, distribution of inappropriate content, and the like. The above mentioned types of abuse can cause permanent and deep traumas, reduce the level of self-confidence of people who are labeled with this type of violence, damage them emotionally and socially. This paper provides a broader picture of the impact of digital violence on all aspects of personality with a special emphasis on the identification of risk factors and the development of prevention with the aim of protecting each individual in the digital environment.

This paper aims to highlight certain issues that arise when discussing the origins and developmental stages of the galant style, as well as the significance and status this style holds within the history of music. This will be achieved by consulting selected and predominantly Anglophone musico-theoretical and musicological literature. Special attention in this paper will be given to the writings of Charles Rosen, Leonard G. Ratner, William Newman, and David Sheldon. In addition to presenting and confronting the opinions of various authors and questioning the validity of their arguments regarding the position of the galant style in the periodization of music history, the paper will provide a special review of the problem of understanding the stylistic matrix of the galant style and its aesthetic paradigm from two perspectives: 1) based on the analysis of the semantic nuances of the term galant and 2) by indicating the (possible) origin of the galant style.

The aim of this work is the analysis of local elections in the Republic of Serbia, which, along with the national, parliamentary and provincial elections in Vojvodina, were held in 66 cities, municipalities and urban municipalities in central Serbia. The above - mentioned local elections were largely held at the initiative of the ruling party - SNS, and were called after early resignations of local leaders - in Belgrade under the strong pressure from a large part of the opposition public and in the other local self-governments they were held probably because of expectation of achieving very good results in specific local governments. These elections were an opportunity to measure the political strength of the ruling parties and the opposition from the national level, as well as minority parties and groups of citizens and local movements. Exceptional political dynamics in Serbia were also shown in these elections, and their full resolution was not achieved even months after they were held, but this election cycle was also an introduction to new political tensions and additional polarization, primarily in the capital, Belgrade.

Background/Aim. Depression is a growing public health concern associated with disability, decreased quality of life, increased multimorbidity, and premature mortality. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of depressive symptoms (DS) in the general population of Serbia and to analyze its association with sociodemographic factors. Methods. Data from the 2019 Serbian National Health Survey was analyzed (a sample of 12,406 respondents). The questionnaires used in this study were in accordance with the methodology of the European Health Interview Survey (EHIS) Wave 3. Patient Health Questionnaire eight-item depression (PHQ-8) scale was used to determine the prevalence of DS among the population aged ≥ 15 years. Multi-variate logistic regression analyses (MLRA) were implemented to assess the association of the prevalence of DS with the sociodemographic characteristics of the population. Results. The prevalence of both mild (7.5% vs. 4.4%) and moderate/severe DS (2.6% vs. 1.5%) was higher among women than men and increased continuously with age (13.6% of adults aged ≥ 65 years had mild and 5.0% moderate/severe symptoms). The highest rates of moderate/severe DS were present in respondents from Vojvodina (2.7%), among those who lived without a partner (2.7%), the lower educated (4.4%), the poor (3.4%), those with inactive employment status (3.7%), and those with poor social support (6.6%). MLRA showed that the highest odds of DS were present among the respondents aged ≥ 65 years [odds ratio (OR) = 6.53; 95% confidence interval (CI): 6.37–6.69] in the Vojvodina region, particularly males (OR = 1.96; 95% CI: 1.89–2.04), respondents who lived without a partner (OR = 1.49; 95% CI: 1.47–1.51), the lower educated (OR = 2.27; 95% CI: 2.22–2.33), the poor (OR = 2.54; 95% CI: 2.49–2.58), as well as those with poor social support (OR = 3.71; 95% CI: 3.64–3.77). Conclusion. The prevalence of DS in the general population of Serbia was relatively low and requires further monitoring. Female gender, older age, living in the region of Vojvodina, life without a partner, socioeconomic disadvantages, as well as the lack of social support were identified as the main factors associated with the occurrence of DS.

Background/Aim. Population aging and the increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases led to a rise in the number of people who live with more than one disease. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence and predictors of multimorbidity in the working-age population (WAP) of Serbia. Methods. The study is part of “The 2019 Serbian National Health Survey”, a c ross-sectional study conducted on a representative stratified two-stage sample. For this paper, a representative data sample for 9,473 persons of the WAP (aged 15–64 years) was used. Multimorbidity was defined as the co-occurrence of two or more of 13 chronic conditions. Data on chronic conditions were self-reported, and data on body mass and body height were measured. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess predictors of multimorbidity. Results. Multimorbidity prevalence among WAP was 12.0%, and it was significantly higher among women (13.3%) than in men (10.6%). The predictors of multimorbidity were: female gender, increasing age, lower level of education, lower income, unemployment, retirement, widowhood, and divorce. Being overweight and obese were associated with higher odds of multimorbidity in both men and women. Conclusion. Multimorbidity is an important public health problem amongst WAP in Serbia due to its high prevalence, especially among vulnerable groups, and its inequality in frequency among different socioeconomic groups.

Microfiltration is a common step in liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS), a method of choice in determining several mycotoxins in a solution at once. However, microfiltration may entail filter-analyte interactions that can affect the accuracy of the procedure, and underestimate exposure. The aim of our study was to assess how five different membrane materials for syringe filters (nylon, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethersulphone, mixed cellulose ester, and cellulose acetate) affect microfiltration and recovery of EU-regulated mycotoxins, including aflatoxins B1, B2, G1, and G2, deoxynivalenol, fumonisins B1 and B2, zearalenone, T-2 and HT-2 toxins, and ochratoxin A. Polytetrafluoroethylene filters turned out to least affect microfiltration through mycotoxin loss, followed by more commonly used nylon filters, whereas the remaining three filter membrane materials had such a negative effect on recoveries that we found them incompatible with the procedure. Our findings clearly suggest that it is important to select a proper filter type that suits analyte properties and solution composition and to discard the first few filtrate drops to ensure the accuracy of the analytical procedure.

Background/Aim. The mental health of medical students worsens during their studies, and research shows that medical students are at high risk of depression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of depressive symptoms and to examine the association between various risk factors and depressive symptoms in a sample of first- and sixth-year medical students at the University of Novi Sad. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Novi Sad. The sample consisted of 308 students divided into two groups – 213 students in the first year and 9 5 students in the final (sixth) year of medical studies. The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) was used to measure depressive symptoms. Within this instrument, item 9 was used to identify suicidal ideation. Self-esteem was evaluated with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES). Additional questions were focused on self-assessed material status, lifestyle factors, and mental healthcare-seeking. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied. Results. The prevalence of depressive episodes among medical students was 16.6%. Almost 9% had thoughts of committing suicide. First-year students with low self-esteem were almost seven times more likely to suffer from moderate to severe depressive symptoms than those with high self-esteem. Students who had used sleeping pills or sedatives without a prescription were nearly five times more likely to have a PHQ-9 score ≥ 10 than those who had not [odds ratio (OR) = 4.97, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.83–13.52)]. Sixth-year students with poor or average self-assessed social relation-ships and low self-esteem had a stronger association with a PHQ-9 score ≥ 1 0. Conclusion. There is a high prevalence of depressive episodes among first and sixth-year medical students, and it is associated with low self-esteem in both groups, use of sleeping or sedative pills without a prescription among first-year students, and poor social health in sixth-year students. We recommend routine screening for depression in medical students and establishing prevention and intervention programs.

Violence against children includes various forms of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. There are numerous factors that can increase the risk of abuse and neglect, and the presence of developmental disabilities is one of them. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the phenomenology of neglect and abuse in children with developmental disabilities. The results of most studies on child abuse and neglect indicate that children with developmental disabilities are at greater risk for victimization than typically developing children. Risk estimates vary, which is a consequence of methodological differences and shortcomings in research designs. According to some findings, the risk of victimization is as much as four times higher compared to children with typical development, and it largely depends on the disability type. Among different types of disabilities, difficulties in emotional, behavioural and intellectual functioning and the presence of multiple disabilities bear the greatest risk for abuse and neglect. The nature of the relationship between disability and violence against children may also depend on the child’s functional level. Research findings indicate that the risk of maltreatment increases with the severity of behavioural problems, deficits in social skills and the presence of pronounced communication difficulties. For some types of disability, the risk for maltreatment is inversely proportional to the level of disability, e.g. children with mild intellectual disability are more often victimized than children with more pronounced difficulties in intellectual development. Indicators of abuse and neglect can be physical or behavioural and are essentially the same for children with developmental disabilities and typically developing children. However, in children with intellectual disabilities and autism, some maltreatment forms are more difficult to identify, and the possibilities of obtaining a verbal statement are limited. Due to problems with abstract thinking, language comprehension and limited vocabulary, these children cannot report adverse experiences or adequately answer the questions being asked. In addition, certain behavioural manifestations of maltreatment can be interpreted as part of the clinical features of these two neurodevelopmental disorders or, on the contrary, certain phenotypic characteristics can be mistakenly attributed to a traumatic experience. The complexity of the victimization phenomenon of children with disabilities implies the need for an interdisciplinary approach and comprehensive systemic solutions in dealing with this problem. From the moment of developmental problems detection, there is a noticeable lack of systemic family support, which should include clear guidelines for exercising the right to health care and social protection, as well as counselling on a child’s developmental possibilities, and application of principles and strategies of behaviorally oriented interventions in child-rearing. The author’s wish is to motivate experts in different fields to carry out a more detailed analysis of the phenomenology of abuse and neglect in the population with disabilities in our country, from which guidelines for preventive activities implementation would arise.

Background/Aim. Radial artery perforator flap (RAPF) is a type of fasciocutaneous or adipofascial reverse pedicle flap, which proved to be a versatile flap for the reconstruction of small and moderate size soft tissue defects of the forearm, wrist, and hand. RAPF provides suitable skin coverage with elastic subcutaneous tissue thus enabling the protection of exposed or damaged functional structures and their simultaneous repair. The aim of this study was to summarize and analyze the results of the treatment of patients with upper extremity soft tissue defects caused by trauma, infection, burn, or tumor removal, which were re-constructed with RAPF. Methods. This retrospective study included 20 consecutive patients with skin and soft tissue defects of the hand and wrist, treated at the University Clinical Center of Vojvodina from 2012 to 2022. The design of the flaps and length of the pedicles were determined by the recipient site. Tourniquet-induced exsanguination was used during surgery for better visualization. The flaps were elevated and placed at the site of the defect. Data on patients and flaps were summarized upon their collection. Results. Distally based fasciocutaneous RAPF was used in all cases. The average age of the patients was 48 years, predominantly (64%) males. Defects were most often localized on the dorsal part of the hand (60%) and wrist (20%). The most common indications for surgery were trauma (45%) and tumor resection (25%). A satisfactory coverage of the defect was achieved in all 20 patients with no flap loss. Venous congestion was noted in 4 (20%) patients, which resulted in partial necrosis of the flap in 3 (15%) patients. Wound healing was achieved upon conservative treatment by secondary intention in two patients and with a secondary suture in the last one. A surgical site infection occurred in 2 (10%) patients who withdrew after proper local and systemic therapy. Conclusion. RAPF proved to be a workhorse flap for soft tissue reconstruction of the upper limb. This surgical solution led to an excellent functional and aesthetic outcome in the majority of patients. Complex surgical procedures could be done simultaneously, together with the reconstruction of tendons, joints, or fracture stabilization. The reliability and safety of these flaps are confirmed through our clinical data.

According to previous studies, academic stress is related to both basic personality traits and emotional intelligence (EI) as a trait which has demonstrated its relevance in numerous research regarding stress and mental health domains. The present study sought to examine the role of trait EI in predicting academic-related stress, while controlling basic personality traits. A sample (N=288) completed: 1) Perceptions of Academic Stress (PAS) Scale, measuring intensity of academic-related stress, 2) HEXACO PI-R comprising traits Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness and Openness, and 3) the TEIQue, examining trait EI (encompassing factors Well-Being, Self-control, Emotionality, and Sociability). The subjects in this online research were students from the University of Belgrade. Four hierarchical regression models comprising the HEXACO traits (entered 1st) and trait EI factors (entered 2nd) as predictors, and academic stress variables as criterions variables, were tested. HEXACO traits explained 8-25% of variance, while predictors of the second block incrementally explained 5-7% of the variance in academic stress. The current data suggests that specific emotion-related personality dispositions encompassed by trait EI have a significant role in predicting academic-related stress and indicates its incremental predictive validity over basic personality traits. The practical implications of the obtained results refer to the importance of programs for planned, targeted stimulation of EI in the context of education.

The goal of this study was the optimization of chromatographic conditions and validation of the isocratic RP-HPLC method for monitoring the stability of aripiprazole, identification and quantitative analysis of aripiprazole and its degradation products in tablets. In addition, robustness was tested by applying the methodology of experimental design. The forced degradation study of aripiprazole was conducted in accordance with the ICH guidelines. The stability of the active pharmaceutical substance was tested under the conditions of hydrolysis in acidic, neutral and basic environments, thermal degradation, oxidation and photolysis. The active pharmaceutical ingredient was degraded under oxidation conditions, and the identity of the resulting degradation product, N-oxide, was confirmed. Under the other conditions tested, the active pharmaceutical substance was found to be stable. The developed method RP-HPLC allowed the separation of degradation products and aripiprazole and was defined as a stability-indicating method. The proposed method was validated for qualitative and quantitative analysis of aripiprazole and its degradation products. Accordingly, selectivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, limit of detection, limit of quantification, and robustness of the method were tested. The Box-Behnken experimental design was used in robustness testing.

The aim of the study, stemming from the Theory of Planned Behaviour, is to examine the possibility of predicting the entrepreneurial intention of university students based on its motivational antecedents (perceived behavioural control and attitude towards entrepreneurship), individual entrepreneurial orientation and the perception of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The sample consisted of 217 students from universities on the territory of the Republic of Serbia from all levels of study (73.3% females). The levels of entrepreneurial intention and its motivational antecedents were assessed via the Entrepreneurial Intention Questionnaire. The individual entrepreneurial orientation scale was used to assess the entrepreneurial orientation. A scale developed within the GEM model was utilised to assess government and cultural support for entrepreneurship, while university entrepreneurship support was measured using a scale constructed for the purposes of the study. The results indicate that entrepreneurial intention can be predicted by a positive attitude towards entrepreneurship, as well as perceived behavioural control, while individual entrepreneurial orientation is not related to entrepreneurial intention. Subjective norms show a low, but significant negative relationship with entrepreneurial intention. The role of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in predicting entrepreneurial intention is not clear and requires further study.

Research in the field of education is increasingly recognizing the importance of emotional intelligence (EI). This paper analyses the connection between EI traits and burnout among preschool teachers, as well as the relationship between these constructs and the length of their work experience. Participants in the research were preschool teachers (N = 64) employed in the preschool education system in Belgrade, Serbia. Data on the EI trait were obtained through the Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue), which provides insight into certain factors of this construct, namely: Well-Being, Self-Control, Emotionality and Sociability. The Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI), a version adapted for preschool teachers, was used to assess professional burnout syndrome. The results indicated the importance of Self-Control as an EI factor in predicting professional burnout, as well as significant differences in the EI Well-Being trait factor, with significantly lower scores observed in the group of teachers with the most work experience. Significantly higher scores were observed in the group of teachers with the most work experience on the scales that assess burnout related to work, burnout in working with children, as well as in terms of the total score of professional burnout. Although not a longitudinal study, the findings suggest that emotional well-being (i.e., positive emotions, optimism, and self-confidence) declines with increasing work experience, while the other domains of trait EI remain stable. At the same time, there is an increase in mental and physical fatigue and exhaustion stemming from the demands of the workplace.

Disability models are conceptual frameworks used to understand and investigate the phenomenon of disability. Social and medical models stand out as key in disability studies. In her works, British sociologist Carol Thomas offered a critical review of the social model of disability and its supplement, which formed a new conceptualization of disability called the social-relational model. Aiming to overcome the exclusivity of previous approaches, Thomas recognizes the essence of disability in the relational area, between persons with and without impairment, where according to her are the key elements of disability. This model offers a perspective that makes room for both the physical and social aspects of impairment and enables the analysis of the psychological implications of the experience of impairment and disability that transcends the traditional dichotomies of medical and social, healthy and diseased. In this overview paper, the medical and social model of disability will be presented in basic terms, followed by the key elements and concepts of the socialrelational model of disability from the original publications of Carol Thomas and other authors who relied on it, as well as a discussion of the importance of the socialrelational model for disability studies and related disciplines.

The incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has been constantly increasing over the past three decades, establishing it as the most frequently diagnosed type of thyroid malignancy. While patients with PTC generally have a favorable outcome, the presence of lymph node metastases (LNM) may significantly impact their prognosis, leading to a higher likelihood of recurrence. The current pre-operative diagnosis of LNM primarily relies on cervical ultrasound examination, which is limited in sensitivity. As a result of low sensitivity, lymph node metastases remain undetected on the pre-operative staging and may later present as persistent or recurrent disease, necessitating further evaluation and potential reoperation. To address the challenges of LNM diagnoses, various models have been developed to predict LNM in PTC patients. Among prediction models, special attention has been drawn to machine learning models that can predict disease outcomes with improved accuracy and enable individualized selection of optimal treatment for each patient. Therefore, this mini-review primarily focuses on explaining the fundamental principles of ML models through an example of LNM prediction in PTC patients. Additionally, an overview is provided on the most commonly used ML models in medicine, discussing their performance in studies employing such approaches for LNM prediction. Finally, the main challenges that limit the implementation of these models in clinical practice have been examined, and crucial areas for improvement have been identified. Currently, ML models present a potentially useful tool for LNM prediction in PTC patients, but further research is necessary to fully leverage their capabilities and enable their implementation into decision support systems.

Three Schiff base Cu(II) complexes, (N,N’-bis(acetylacetone)propylenediimine) copper(II) complex, [Cu(acac2pn)] (1), (N,N'-bis-(benzoylacetone) propylenediimine)copper(II) complex, [Cu(phacac2pn)] (2) and (N,N’-bis- -(trifluoroacetylacetone)propylenediimine)copper(II) complex, [Cu(tfacac2pn)] (3), were used to investigate the interactions with calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) using the electronic absorption and spectroscopic fluorescence methods. UV–Vis absorption studies showed that studied complexes interact with DNA molecule and exhibit moderate binding affinity. Fluorescence studies of complexes 1–3 also showed a possibility for DNA intercalation as well as a relatively high binding ability toward BSA. Among the tested complexes, the highest affinity for DNA and BSA molecules was shown by complex 1. Cytotoxic analyses, performed on human colorectal carcinoma HCT-116 and healthy lung fibroblast MRC-5 cell lines, showed that complex 2 exhibited activity on both cell lines, while complexes 1 and 3 did not show any activity.

The coordination behavior of three ligand precursors 2-[(2-pyridinylmethyl) amino]acetic acid hydrochloride, 4-[(2-pyridinylmethyl)amino]benzoic acid hydrochloride and 4-{[2-(pyridin-2-ylmethylamino)ethylamino]methyl}- benzoic acid hydrochloride, HL1∙HCl–HL3∙HCl, respectively, in copper(II) complexes is described. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, ESI mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy, as well as X-ray structural analysis. The reaction of copper(II) with HL1∙HCl in methanol afforded the polymeric complex [{Cu(μ-Cl)2(MeL1-κ2N,N’)}n] (1) featuring the methyl ester of L1 (MeL1). With HL2∙HCl or HL3∙HCl, the dimeric complex [{CuCl(μ-Cl)(HL2-κ2N,N’)}2] (2) or the mononuclear complex [CuCl2(HL3- κ3N,N’,N’’)] (3) were obtained. All complexes exhibited square-pyramidal geometries. In 1, polymeric chains are formed through bridging chlorido ligands without typical hydrogen bonding interaction. Contrarily, the COOH group in 2 is participating in the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bonding forming a supramolecular structure. In 3, intermolecular hydrogen bonding (Cl···H(O)) leads to a 1-D polymeric structure. The copper(II) complex 2 diminished viability of human 8505C, MCF-7, 518A2 and SW-480 cell lines. The tumoricidal effect of 2 was realized mainly through caspase-mediated apoptosis.

Functional, multiple, contextual literacy (new literacy) constitutes a dominant concept in contemporary theory, research, and education policies. While functional literacy comprises a multitude of dimensions, the greatest significance is attributed to linguistic and reading literacy. To date, research on literacy has mostly focused on students of pre-secondary school age, often neglecting other populations, including the youth and adults. This exploratory study assessed the functional literacy of university students, primarily centering on the domains of linguistic and reading literacy. The aim was to illuminate students’ perspectives on their own language practices and obtain their literacy self-evaluations. At the same time, we measured our participants’ achievements in reading literacy tasks and examined relations between the above-mentioned variables. A sample of 225 social science students attending the University of Belgrade completed an online composite questionnaire. The results showed that: a) university students’ high literacy self-evaluation did not correspond to their achievement in reading literacy tasks; b) language practice proved to be a composite variable within which reading and writing were differently related to achievement in reading literacy tasks. In this paper, we propose a model of relations between these variables and point to pedagogical interventions that could contribute to the development and improvement of functional literacy among university students in general.

This text contains an account of the first work on theoretical demography in Serbia, which was written in 1862 by Kosta Cukić, a doctor of philosophy from Heidelberg and the first widely recognised Serbian economist. He dealt with this topic in the second volume of his State Economy textbook, the title of which was Economic Policy. Writing about population problems in economic textbooks was a common European practice at that time. Although he wrote for a textbook, his work was not a retelling of generally accepted theories, but a critical discussion of issues that had not been resolved in contemporary science. Therefore, his work can be considered original in the full sense of the word. In the theoretical sense, Cukić relied on Malthus, but also provided significantly different perspectives on many issues. He accepted Malthus’s position that the amount of food is a limiting factor in population growth and that natural fertility is very high due to people’s strong sexual drive. But there were also important differences: in Cukić’s theoretical framework, the iron law of wages does not apply, i.e. wages do not always strive for the existential minimum, as Malthus argued. Cukić also argues that capital affects fertility, since it affects the amount of available resources. Cukić was not a pessimist like Malthus, and instead observed a significant population growth in Europe at the time, without mass famine and pestilence. As we can see, Cukić dealt a lot with Malthus and his theory. This is understandable considering that Malthus was the preeminent theoretician whose work focused on the population problem in those decades, and therefore determination according to his theory and discussion with him was inevitable for anyone who intended to write about population problems. Cukić also dealt with population policy and those aspects of it that were available to the governments of the time: immigration, emigration, and marriage. The basis of his views was strong and consistent liberalism in every respect. Cukić advocated for expanding personal freedoms, such as free decision-making about marriage, and free immigration to the country and emigration from it. In some places he would set minimum technical conditions. “Personal freedom... is the ideal of the political consciousness of the present time”. Accordingly, he claimed that “citizens are not just means for governmental purposes”, but on the contrary, it is the government’s duty to “facilitate and support the aspirations of citizens to particular and general happiness”, thus repeating John Locke’s idea that the state exists for the sake of citizens, and not citizens for the sake of the state. Cukić belonged to a wide circle of authors in the mid-19th century who fundamentally rejected Malthus’s theory: on the one hand, economists who claimed that technological progress and a deepened division of labour would lead to economic progress that would forever postpone the existential crisis that Malthus feared; and on the other, demographers who believed that workers would control their fertility to preserve living standards to a greater extent than Malthus thought possible. Towards the end of the 19th century, the decline of fertility in Western countries provided strong evidence in favour of the latter.

Selected results recently obtained in studies of heavy ion transfer reactions at energies close to the Coulomb barrier are presented. In particular, the production of neutron-rich heavy nuclei via multinucleon transfer processes in 206Pb+118Sn, 197Au+130Te, and 94Rb+208Pb is discussed.

Measurement was conducted at the INFN-LNL, employing a Tandem accelerator to achieve a 95 MeV 14N beam focused on 10B target (201 µg/cm²) with the aim to explore the cluster structures of light carbon isotopes. The main focus of this report will be on the 13C nucleus. Data were collected with a six-telescope detection system that allowed for the observation of many-body exit channels. Here are presented some results of the data analysis for the excited states of 13C from reactions with two and three products in the exit channel. In the 10B(14N,11C)13C reaction, well-defined peaks were identified at 2.0, 3.7, 5.7, 7.4, 9.4, 11.7, 13.9, and 15.9 MeV. The states from ground state to 5.7 MeV are well understood and are used to correct the spectrum, while more states can contribute to the states at higher excitations and further investigation is needed. In the 10B(14N,11C9Be)4He channel, states were identified at 13.1, 13.9, 15.6, and 18.5 MeV. The experimental results show consistency with the previously published data, supporting theoretical models of clustering and molecular-like structures in 13C. Further analysis of other reaction channels and states will be presented in future publications, aiming to enhance our understanding of multi-center clustering in carbon isotopes.

The unique opportunity presented by 10B + 10B reactions to study high-energy, high-spin states in the A=10 mass region is explored. Results from the measurement at 72 MeV are presented, the most important being new and rarely seen states in the 12C [1] and 13C [2], which motivate targeted future experiments. In particular, a new state of 12C at Ex = 24.4 MeV is strongly populated in the triple α-particle coincidences, while the rarely seen state at Ex = 30.3 MeV is found to be strong in the d+10B decay channel, reinforcing the previous suggestions that it has the exotic 2α+2d molecular structure [3]. Regarding the 13C nucleus, a potentially novel state at Ex = 19.0 MeV is prominently observed in α+ 9Be coincidences and demonstrates a well-defined cluster structure. Lastly, high-spin states in mirror nuclei pairs 9Be-9B, 10Be-10C and 11B-11C populated in the presented measurement are explored.

Multinucleon transfer reactions for the 206Pb +118 Sn system were measured at Elab = 1200 MeV using the PRISMA large solid-angle magnetic spectrometer. The experiment was conducted at laboratory angles around the grazing angle, covering an angular range of approximately 20°. The resulting differential and total cross sections, along with Q-value distributions for various neutron and proton pick-up and stripping channels, are presented. The Q-value distributions suggest a transition from quasi-elastic to deep inelastic collision processes, particularly in channels involving nucleon transfers. The experimental results have been compared with GRAZING code calculations, showing good agreement for few-nucleon transfer channels, while channels with large nucleon transfers are underestimated, indicating the involvement of more complex processes.

Introduction/Objective. The aim of this study was to examine the association between flat feet and socio-demographic factors and nutritional status in children aged 7–14 years of the Province of Vojvodina, Serbia. Methods. The research was conducted as a cross-sectional study. The survey instrument was a questionnaire, and anthropometric measurements were done using standardized procedures. To determine the impact of socio-demographic factors and nutritional status as independent variables on the flat feet in schoolchildren as a dependent variable, a multivariate logistic regression model was implemented. A multivariate model was adjusted for age, sex, type of settlement, and material status. Results. This study included 1376 children (685 boys and 691 girls). Significant differences were observed in the frequency of flat feet between normal weight, overweight, and obesity (p = 0.006), where obese children were rated highest in the flat foot category. Overweight children had a 1.76 times higher chance to have flat feet than those with normal weight (OR = 1.76; 95% CI 1.08–2.88), while obese children were 1.88 times more likely to have flat feet than those with normal weight (OR = 1.88; 95% CI 1.14–3.11). Conclusion. The research showed that nutritional status was significantly associated with the presence of flat feet in schoolchildren. The high prevalence of flat feet and obesity in schoolchildren should be accepted as a warning sign, and many public health policies should be undertaken to solve these issues.

In this paper, we focus on terrorism through the criminal legislation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the existing scientific fund, professional literature, various organizations, institutions, political entities, there is not a sufficient degree of agreement to be able to form a court that there is, in general, a generally accepted definition of terrorism. On the other hand, given the various activities and actions, results, effects and consequences of terrorist organizations and terrorists, we must state that there is a very high degree of agreement, that terrorism is one of the biggest security and security threats today. The growing increase in terrorist actions and threats has led to the implementation of new legislative norms in order to better counter terrorism. Organized crime at the international level and terrorist activities increasingly require the connection of states, international organizations through Conventions, Resolutions or Laws. Terrorism acts ambivalently and as a threat to the stability of society, states and their development on a global level. The expansion of terrorism over time has surprised many organizations, institutions, whose goal is to preserve security, where the need for reforms has arisen. Through the laws in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we will see how the legislator has solved the issue of terrorism and what are the consequences for those who do not adhere to them.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of stress among international medical students and factors associated with higher levels of student's stress during the COVID-19 epidemic in Serbia. Material and methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted using a five-section online questionnaire during January, 2021 among international medical students attending the Faculty of Medicine University of Belgrade, Studies in English in Serbia, using snowball sampling method. Results: A total of 52 international medical students with a mean age of 21.0 ± 2.2 years, 58% female, were enrolled. Stress level was rated higher than usual in 65% of students. The predictors of higher level of stress were: not being prepared for full online courses (p = 0.058), worry about own health (p = 0.04), worry about the health of loved ones (p = 0.058), concern about finances (p = 0.004) and exams/future study plans (p = 0.033), lack of energy (p = 0.012), strong emotions or mood swings (p = 0.004) and inability to get needed things from stores (p = 0.054). Fear or worry about the health of their loved ones, concern about money, as well as concern about exams or future study plans were independent predictors of the respondents' higher level of stress in multivariate analysis. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in the level of stress among the international medical students in Serbia. A higher level of stress was associated with fear about health of loved ones, concern about finances and exams/future study plans.

Deep-rooted political turbulence, along with the present hybrid regime, have resulted in an undesirable social, economic and political milieu in Serbia. Such an atmosphere is a fertile ground for a grey economy, corruption, nepotism and restrictions to media freedoms. These ‘unconventional’ means of social functioning, have caused a decline in trust towards state institutions and proportionally, increase of citizen participation in non-institutional models of engagement. The aim of this paper is to analyse one such model of non-institutional engagement: the local activist group Za naš Kej, operating in the area Savski blokovi (Sava apartment blocks) in New Belgrade. The authors analysed local residents’ perception of the activist group Za naš Kej in comparison to the group’s narratives and actions. By using a grounded theory approach authors explained the role of groups such as Za Naš Kej in the development of participatory and deliberative democracy within the local community. Our data indicates that Za naš kej, despite its local character, does not have a strong foothold in the community, and thus receives only passive support. Citizens perceive Za naš kej as mediator between local institutions and residents of the Sava apartment blocks. Despite the failure to mobilise a wider group of citizens for their cause, this activist group continues to be a relevant (political) actor within the local community.

Quality of life is a broad and complex construct. World Health Organization refers to it as an "individual's perception of their position in life (…) in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns". Reduced visual functions have a negative impact on the overall individual's functioning. Difficulties in accessing visual information and problems in orientation and mobility create significant limitations in performing daily activities and lead to diminished opportunities for education, work, social participation, and leisure. Limited participation in the aforementioned areas with lower social interactions have a negative impact on the individual's quality of life. However, it is unclear whether this construct of people with visual impairment is compromised due to reduced ability to perform daily activities or due to difficulties in establishing social interactions. Objectives. In an effort to indicate the consequences of visual impairment on quality of life, the goal of this research was to determine the objective quality of life in adults with different visual status when controlling the age. Methods. The Comprehensive Quality of Life Scale was used to evaluate the quality of life. The sample consisted of 175 people - 92 participants with visual impairment and 83 participants without structural or functional problems in the visual system. Results. Results of eight one-way ANCOVAs indicated a significant effect of visual status on Objective quality of life in total (p < .001) and on its four domains: Material well-being, Health, Productivity, Place in Community. Conclusion. The effects of different visual status on the observed construct revealed when age as a variable is controlled.

Introduction: There is evidence that cancer screening and similar health interventions in patients with mental illnesses in some countries remain suboptimal. Considering the high prevalence of depression among women in Vojvodina, this study aimed to estimate the association of reduced utilization of cervical screening tests with sociodemographic variables and with depression. Aim: Considering the high prevalence of depression among women in Vojvodina, this study aimed to estimate the association of reduced utilization of cervical screening tests with sociodemographic variables and with depression. Material and Methods: The study was conducted as a cross-sectional study on 1,226 women age 25-64 years from the Province of Vojvodina, as a part of the National Health Survey. To determine the impact of the time when the last smearing test was done (as a dependent variable) on sociodemographic characteristics and depression binary logistic regression model (Enter) was implemented. Models were adjusted for age, type of settlement, education, material status (wealth index), employment status, having a gynecologist in stateowned and private practice, and depression. Results: Out of the total, 555 women (59.7%) missed the cervical smear test in the last 12 months. Women with a secondary school were more likely to miss the cervical smear test in the last 12 months (OR=1.62; 95% CI=1.13-2.33) as well as women age 50-64 years (OR=1.45; 95% CI=0.99-2.13). Women without gynecologist in either a state-owned or private health practice had 4.13 and 2.20 higher odds of not done cervical smear tests during the last 12 months. Conclusion: The results show that special attention should be paid by physicians to identifying disorders in women, which can lead to neglect of their health, and reduced health control.

Honey is a natural product which has high nutritional value. Also, it has health benefits, which is the reason for its been used for the prevention of diseases caused by oxidative stress for centuries in many countries. Honey has antibacterial and antioxidant properties, which are the result of the presence of enzymes and chemical and phytochemical components, where phenolic acids and flavonoids play a significant role. The aim of this study was to examine the physico-chemical parameters, antioxidant properties and antimicrobial activity of forest-meadow, acacia and sunflower honey from the Gruža and Požega areas (Republic of Serbia). The tested physico-chemical parameters were found to be within the values prescribed by the Legislation and the Codex Alimentarius Standard. The presence of HMF was not detected in the sample of forest-meadow honey, while the content in other samples (1.09 and 1.79 mg HMF kg-1) was significantly below the value laid down by regulations (40 mg HMF kg-1). Forest-meadow honey had the highest antioxidant activity (35.2%, 26.32%-ABTS and DPPH method, respectively) and the highest content of total phenolics (90.96±5.18 g GAE 100 g-1), while acacia honey exhibited the lowest values for antioxidant activity (11.76%-ABTS; 7.28%-DPPH) and total phenolics (15.75±0,66 g GAE 100 g-1). Forest-meadow honey showed the best antibacterial activity, followed by sunflower and acacia honey.

Introduction: Ogilvie syndrome and gastrointestinal bleeding as complications after reversal of typical clinical picture of acute Clozapine overdose is described. Case Report: A previously healthy 31-year-old man was found unconscious with Glasgow Coma Score of 6, non-reactive miotic pupils, hypersalivation and heart rate of 115 bpm. In the blood, the presence of Clozapine, Diazepam, haloperidol and biperiden were confirmed. The patient was referred to the intensive care unit for symptomatic and supportive treatment. Clinical signs registered on admission, except for sinus tachycardia, were completely resolved by the day 3. The patient began to eat and had regular bowel movements. From the seventh day, gastrointestinal complications were noticed. Nonobstructive dilatation of the stomach and intestine was confirmed on computed tomography scan. Nasogastric suction, the usage of laxatives and prostigmin injections as well as colonic irrigation was performed with a good clinical response. Conclusion: Clinicians should be aware of the potential of atypical antipsychotics to cause ileus, particulary in combination with other drugs with antimuscarinic properties, and ready to rapidly detect and treat intestinal atony thus preventing life-threatening complications. Serum Clozapine levels may not equate to clinical toxicity and the drug-näive patient require more careful observation for complications in Clozapine toxicity settings.

Introduction: Although the consumption of synthetic cannabinoids (SC) has become more and more widespread recently, future healthcare professionals, according to the currently available curriculum, receive minimal information about diagnosis and treatment thereof. Aim: The main goal is to assess the level of knowledge of students of health professions about SC and examine the factors that influence that knowledge. Material and methods: A cross-section academic study was conducted among 510 students of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, during 2017 using a structured questionnaire. Results: Forty-nine percent of students answered positively to the question if they knew what SCs were, whereas when they were offered three definitions regarding SCs-92.2% gave the correct answer, with male students demonstrating a better knowledge than female ones (p=0.014). There was no correlation between previous knowledge about SCs and professional qualifications of the student's parents (p=0.953 mother, p=0.500 father) or the student's social media profile existence (p=0.057). Pharmacy students showed better previous knowledge about SCs in comparison with students of other courses (p=0.000) as well as the final year students when compared to those from the 1 st and 2 nd year of study (p=0.000). The repetition of a year level did not affect student's knowledge (p=0.616). Students with experience in alcohol usage showed better previous knowledge of SCs in comparison with alcohol non-users (p=0.008). However, most of the respondents answered "do not know" on the majority of statements about SCs offered. Conclusion: Superficiality in students' knowledge and insufficiency of formal education contributes to the necessity for revising curriculum regarding SCs for future health care professionals.

Considering that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are seen as the backbone of the global economy and the ones that (against all odds) stand to gain the most from using and developing standards, the study aims at exploring does expertise in standardization exist in SMEs. To collect data, the semi-structured interview via e-mail was used, as it seems to be much more comprehensive than the questionnaire. To analyze data, the Critical Incident Technique (CIT) and the qualitative content analysis method were used as the most suitable methods for analyzing data from subject matter experts. The data collected from a total of 28 experts from 14 countries was analyzed. Finally, five conclusions were determined - (1) expertise resides in all SMEs, (2) ... but not the expertise in standardization, (3) ... so external experts might be needed to support them, (4) education about standardization is crucial for the development of expertise in standardization, (5) ... but only as a support for lifelong learning.

Rare earth elements (REE) are frequently referred to as ingredients for enhancements in modern industry, as they are extensively applied in many industrial branches due to their accented electro-magnetic and optical properties. REE have end-utilizations as catalysts, magnets, and as dopants for ceramic materials. Rare earth minerals are scarce therefore the unconventional REE-containing resources such as waste materials and industrial byproducts are continuously being investigated. Coal combustion products comprise REE concentrations varying between 200 ppm and 1500 ppm. This quantity can be isolated though the extraction procedure. In this study, the five stages extraction was conducted on the coal combustion ash from the selected landfill site. The extractions of 32 elements (As, Ga, Ce, Be, Ge, Nd, Cr, Zr, Eu, Cu, Nb, Gd, Co, Mo, Dy, Li, Ag, W, Mn, Cd, Au, Ni, In, Hg, Pb, Sn, Tl, V, Sb, Th, Zn, and La) were conveyed. Chemical analyses were conducted via XRF, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and AAS techniques. The complexity of the obtained data was examined by Principal component analysis and Cluster analysis in order to derive interconnections between quantity of elements and landfill characteristics, as well as mutual relationships among the elements of interest, and to assess the accomplishment of REE recovery from the coal ash.

The primary objectives of this study were (1) to determine the presence of Borrelia burgdorferi infection in ticks removed from patients for the purpose of singling out sites with increased risk of Lyme borreliosis, and (2) to determine the presence of IgM and/or IgG antibodies against B. burgdorferi sensu lato (s. l.) complex in sera of patients who had ticks removed. From 108 ticks removed from patients, all were examined zoologically and a sub-sample of 91 ticks was tested using PCR analysis to determine the presence of DNA indicating B. burgdorferi infection. To detect anti-Borrelia IgM and/ or IgG antibodies in 61 patients bitten by ticks, we used line recombinant immunoblot test. The most common tick identified was Ixodes ricinus. B. burgdorferi s. l. was present in 37 of 91 tested ticks (40.7%). Seroconversion against B. burgdorferi s. l. antigen was detected in 12 of 61 patients (19.7%). Most of the infected ticks were from the province of Vojvodina (11 municipalities), with the city of Novi Sad proving to be the site with the highest number of infected ticks, 6 in total.

Background/Aim. Acute intoxication by ethanol constitutes a significant part of the acute pathology caused by toxic chemicals, which require medical care in specialized health care institutions. The aim of the study was to determine some principal characteristics of the patients treated after acute ethanol poisoning, such as: participation in the total number of patients treated after acute poisoning by all chemical agents, age, sex, severity of poisoning and capacities for ambulatory or hospital treatment. Methods. A five-year retrospective case study was conducted on 20,891 acute poisoned patients, of which 10,731 were treated after acute ethanol poisoning during the period 2011–2015. All the subjects satisfied the diagnostic criteria of poisoning according to the World Health Organization International Classification of Diseases-10 and standardized Poison Severity Score scale. Results. Monitored parameters were analyzed in 10,731 patients acutely poisoned by ethanol, and their average number during one study year was 2146.2 ± 437.95. The average number of treated patients due to poisoning by ethanol (51.47 ± 2.86%) was statistically significantly higher than that of other causes of acute poisoning (p < 0.001). The majority of poisoned patients were men, aged 19 to 65 years, with mild to moderate symptoms of acute ethanol intoxication. The highest number of patients poisoned by ethanol had Poison Severity Score 1 (70.25 ± 5.04%, p < 0.001). Very few acute poisoned with ethanol required hospital treatment (1.05%). Anticipated number of patients acutely poisoned by ethanol had high percentage of increase for the period 2016–2020 (slightly more than 20%), which is worrying, primarily due to their high absolute number. Conclusion. Acute alcohol poisoning represents a significant part of the pathology in the total number of patients treated due to acute poisoning with various chemical substances. The results of this analysis showed that certain populations are particularly vulnerable to abuse of alcohol to the level requiring health care (male population, age 19˗65 years). Only a small number of patients (1% of all patients treated for acute alcohol poisoning) required clinical treatment. The obtained data provided the basis for a more targeted preventive action in certain population groups, as well as the adequate planning of professional medical staff engagement, material, spatial and other capacities. These data, also, provided the basis for additional detailed social, economic, health and other researches in this area as well as a more detailed registration of this type of poisoning and establishing a monitoring system and database.

Introduction. In addition to family, school has an irreplaceable role in the development and behavior of children, because it it is a place of social interaction between students, students and teachers, as well as other adults, which differs significantly from the interaction within immediate and extended family. Objectives. This research aimed to determine and describe the behavior of deaf and hard of hearing children and children of typical development in different school situations. Methods. The sample consisted of 52 lower elementary school students, 7 to 11 years of age, divided into two groups - group A with 26 deaf and hard of hearing students, and group B with 26 students of typical development. With regard to gender, the sample consisted of 34 (65.4%) male students and 18 (34.6%) female students. The Questionnaire for assessing the behavior of younger school children was used in this research. Results. The results of the research showed that there were statistically significant differences between deaf and hard of hearing students and students of typical development in class behavior: with regard to the place where they sat (ch2 = 19.57, df = 8, rc = .52, p = .01), and attention during lessons (ch2 = 16.70, df = 8, rc = .49, p = .03); during recess: with regard to playing (ch2 = 20.13, df = 8, rc = .52, p = .01); or with regard to authority: when they addressed teachers (ch2 = 7.06, df = 8, rc = .49, p = .03), received orders (ch2 = 27.58, df = 8, rc = .58, p = .001) and praise (ch2 = 27.84, df = 8, rc = .59, p = .001). Age, gender, school success, and the type of amplification in deaf and hard of hearing students did not prove to be factors that significantly affected student behavior. Conclusion. More extensive research on personal (degree of hearing loss, language competence), family (parent-child dyad) and social factors (inclusive and non-inclusive education), would explain some of the unknowns related to the behavior of deaf and hard of hearing students.

A modification of an analytical procedure for the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) quantification of ten chemical elements (As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn) in the leachates obtained from cement binders was developed. Twenty-nine testing samples were used in the experiment. All samples were based on Portland cement. Fly ash of different origin, zeolite and bentonite were employed as mineral additives in the cement binders. Distilled water was used as the leachate. Validation of the modified EDXRF procedure was conducted in terms of limits of detection and quantification, working range, linearity, selectivity, precision, trueness, and robustness. Traceability of the procedure was established using certified reference materials. Uncertainty of measurement was confirmed via an “in-house” laboratory validation approach. The expanded uncertainties for the ten analysed elements were obtained for the entire working range of the EDXRF method. Robustness of the modified EDXRF procedure was assessed by means of a chemometric in-house approach. The results obtained by the modified X-ray fluorescence method were additionally correlated to those acquired by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry to confirm that EDXRF could be used as an effective and reliable alternative method for analysis of cement leachates.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare serum sclerostin concentrations in patients with thyroid dysfunction with euthyroid control subjects and to assess the relationship between sclerostin and markers of bone metabolism (osteocalcin and beta-cross-laps). Methods: The study included 30 patients with thyroid dysfunction (hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism) and ten euthyroid controls. Free thyroxine (FT4) was measured by radioimmunoassay, while thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) concentration was determined immunoradiometrically. We used an ELISA kit to determine the sclerostin level. The electrochemiluminescence method was applied for measuring the bone markers. Results: Sclerostin levels were significantly lower in hypothyroid patients (p=0.009) and significantly elevated in hyperthyroid patients (p=0.008) compared to control values. Hyperthyroid patients also had higher sclerostin than patients with subclinical hyperthyroidism (p=0.013). Sclerostin concentrations were negatively correlated with TSH levels (r=-0.746, p

Background/Aim. Domestic violence against women is a significant public health problem resulting in serious health and social consequences, for women and their families. The aim of this study was to analyze the sociodemographic characteristic of women who were exposed to domestic violence, as well as the impact of violence on women's health. Methods. Data from cross-sectional study from the 2013 National Health Survey in Serbia were used analyzing 6,320 women aged 20–75 years. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were implemented to assess the association of exposure to domestic violence against women with sociodemographic characteristics, as well as with selected health indicators and health risk behaviors. Results. Out of total number of examined women, 307 (4.9%) reported that they experienced physical and/or psychological violence in the last 12 months. Divorced or separated women, poor women and women with poor social support had greater odds for exposure to domestic violence. Women who had experienced domestic violence were less likely to perceived their health as good than women who had not experienced domestic violence [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 0.47; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.32–0.71], and more likely to report severe or very severe pain (AOR = 2.41; 95% CI = 1.74–3.33), stress and pressure exposure (AOR = 2.62; 95% CI = 1.89–3.64) and depression (AOR = 3.24; 95% CI = 2.08–5.03). Exposure to violence was also associated with the use of sleeping pills or sedative (AOR = 2.21; 95% CI = 1.67–2.93), with frequent use of alcohol (AOR = 1.42; 95% CI = 1.08–1.86) and abortion (AOR = 3.11; 95% CI = 1.48–6.54). Conclusion. Women, victims of domestic violence are more likely to have physical and mental disorders compared to women who are not victims of domestic violence. Violence prevention demands a multisectoral approach, in which the health sector has a central role that includes early identification and recognition of abuse, appropriate care as well as documenting and reporting violence.
