Flash floods are extreme natural phenomena that determine numerous property damage and loss of human life on both global and local level. In order to highlight not only the frequency of occurrence of floods on the rivers in the Land of Dorna but also their effects on the community, we set ourselves to perform a secondary analysis of data provided by Siret River Basin Administration. As a result, one can observe that the highest frequency of occurrence of flash floods in the region of Dorna is in the spring. During the same period of time (from 1993 to 2003) there were recorded only significant property damages after the flash floods. At the end of this paper we suggested a series of coherent measures in order to combat the negative effects of flash floods.

The Land of Dorna represents a region with a climate specific to intermountain depressions and mountain areas by its geographic position, the characteristics of active subjacent surfaces and of dominant air-masses,. Climatic factors and phenomena play an important part in outlining the whole features of the territorial system and development of some particular tourist activities in this geographic region. The Land of Dorna has a lot of natural and anthropic resources that have taken many different shapes under the influence of some internal and external elements over the time. Therefore, our main goal is to identify and analyze the way in which climate and weather work on tourist activities in this part of the country.

The present paper aims to describe the role that decision makers and inhabitants have in the evolution of the built heritage from the regional system of the Land of Dorna. In order to achieve this goal I analyzed and systematized all data and information relevant for this study. Data from different sources provided by literature and from the field research led to the identification of the local characteristics of the regional system. The analysis has revealed a number of inconsistencies between an optimal situation of a territorial system and the current state of the Land of Dorna system in which a number of monuments lie in an advanced state of decay. The improper management of the built heritage of the Land of Dorna by the local actors has led to a series of territorial dysfunctions. The conclusions of this paper have highlighted the urgent need to implement a series of measures aimed to revitalize the built heritage in the Land of Dorna. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Understanding the attachments that people develop for certain places is an interesting area of study, but with little attention in Romanian empirical research. This study introduces the concepts of place identity and place dependence in relation to a specific area within the local culture of the Land of Dorna. Starting from previous studies carried on western samples, a research instrument measuring the degree and content of place attachment was translated and adapted. 86 respondents (52 residents and 34 tourists) filled in the questionnaire. Comparing the degree of attachment, there was no significant difference among the two samples. However, local residents tended to display higher levels of place identity, while tourists displayed more emotional functionality to the study area. Place attachment is deeply embodied in the local culture. Due to the research design the generalization of the results is limited. However, this study may act as a starting point in researching other geographical mental spaces. The lands of Romania are unique social and cultural spaces with specific attachment patterns. Future studies should consider larger and representative samples in order to find additional patterns of attachment among residents and other individuals (e.g. tourists, visitors, new residents, other communities etc.). Identifying and analyzing the hydro mineral potential of the Land of Dorna is an essential condition for understanding how this resource has made its mark over time over the process of territorial organization and planning. At the same time knowing the main hydrographic features will help to shape the future directions for their use. The study analyses both qualitative and quantitative components of groundwater, being pursued especially the following levers: the manner in which water resources have influenced the human component established in those parts, the way in which the resources were used and the way in which those resources were integrated in the local and national economic circuit. In conclusion we can say that the Land of Dorna has a high potential of hydro mineral resources, which highlights the role of this in the territorial development at the same time. There are few studies, in specialized literature, regarding the construction of geographical mental spaces as „land”, in which qualitative methods were used. Therefore the need to extend this spectrum and to introduce new visions, regarding these spaces, is desirable in geographical research. The use of the qualitative method within this study aimed to identify, as true and as accurate as possible, the perception of the inhabitants of the Land of Dorna, considering the six dimensions, which compose the structure of a geographical mental space, and to highlight the way Land of Dorna's mental space was formed. For data collection the method of the individual semi-structured interview was used, on a sample of 30 subjects. For data processing OSR NVivo 7 program was used. With the aid of this program, in the end, the result turned out to be, the model of the construction of the Land of Dorna's mental space. Out of this, one characteristic stood out, that the elements of highest importance for the inhabitants of the Land of Dorna, are the Divinity and the house. There are interrelations amongst the six dimensions. The results of the research can be used, in the future, in order to develop other models on geographical mental spaces as land. This paper focuses on the landscape of marshes in the Land of Dorna, on the concept of landscape, as well as on the methods used in outlining its specific elements. The aim is to illustrate as accurate as possible the geographical reality of the Carpathian Mountains and to highlight the relationships between the natural and the anthropogenic environment. The outcome proved the veracity of the hypothesis made at the beginning of the study, that, in the end, the residents of the Land of Dorna have proved to be aware of the importance of the landscape of marshes, of its management and that, over time, they have managed to identify themselves with these sites, included in the perceived space. The aim of the present article is to study the drinking water supply systems and sewerage systems in the Land of Dorna. Following the analysis I noticed the uneven distribution of drinking water supply systems and sewerage systems, so the most developed axis of this view is the main axis that is oriented V-E. This axis connects the Land of Dorna with the neighboring regions, those of Transylvania, Maramureş and Moldova. The final part of the study consists of a series of proposed measures for the revitalization of the existing dysfunctions in the territory and to revive the repulsive areas (the north of the Land of Dorna and the northern part of the Călimani Mountains). This paper presents the main dysfunctions encountered in a microsystem, in this case, the one of Chinteni Commune, as well as the measures proposed for the revitalization of the analyzed area and the outlining of a functional space of reduced dimensions. The identification and the analysis of the dysfunctions were realized based on several differentiated indicators, in order to be able to apprehend, as well as possible, the reality of the territory. The encountered dysfunctions were classified into four groups: dysfunctions of the natural environment, dysfunctions of the human resource and of the settlement, economic dysfunctions and dysfunctions related to infrastructure. Rural space represents the territory where most lands are used for agriculture, forestry and fishing. Throughout the development of the dwelling spaces, people tried to merge the anthropogenic part with the natural environment without bringing prejudice to the latter. Therefore, the rural space has the capacity to preserve and restore the natural environment, as a result of a lower anthropogenic pressure compared to the urban space, associated with the level of economic development and the involvement of the authorities. Chinteni municipality, located near Cluj-Napoca City, changed gradually some of its rural characteristics. The anthropogenic pressure of the latest years led to important changes in the system structure, leading to a mass of different styles and shapes. The sustainable development of a rural space is defined by the balance between the conservation of the natural environment, from an ecologic, cultural and economic point of view, by preserving the traditional elements and the modernization and optimization of the rural life standards. The conclusions of this study demonstrate the orientation of the rural space of Chinteni municipality towards a trend of suburbanization, yet in its primary stage, still preserves specific elements of the traditional rural space.
