In this paper we will address a problem that is as topical as possible and at the same time quite well studied in research in this area. Due to a very fast-running lifestyle with activities that overload the human body, it is no longer able to cope with the demands, and as a consequence of physical stress and the inability to recover in time, the disease easily takes hold on a vulnerable ground. Lumbar disc disease is a fairly common condition, but the way it is treated is flawed. People who have been diagnosed with this condition have not received conservative treatment, but rather have stayed in pain and disability until surgery was needed. In the direction of this problem we will present some aspects of the installation of pathological conflict in the spine but at the same time we will elaborate a therapeutic pathway leading to the prevention of complications and stabilization of spine function.

BackgroundIschemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is a complex pathological process, triggered by the restoration of blood flow following an interrupted blood supply. While restoring the blood flow is the only option to salvage the ischemic tissue, reperfusion after a prolonged period of ischemia initiates IRI, triggering a cascade of inflammatory responses ultimately leading to neutrophil recruitment to the inflamed tissue, where they release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). NETs are web-like structures of decondensed chromatin and neutrophilic proteins, including peptidyl-arginine deiminase 2 and 4 (PAD2, PAD4), that, once outside, can citrullinate plasma proteins, irreversibly changing their conformation and potentially their function. While the involvement of NETs in IRI is known mainly from rodent models, we aimed to determine the effect of NET formation and especially PADs-mediated extracellular protein citrullination in a porcine model of limb IRI.MethodsWe conducted our study on amputated pig forelimbs exposed to 1 h or 9 h of ischemia and then reperfused in vivo for 12 h. Limb weight, edema formation, compartmental pressure were measured, and skeletal muscle was analyzed by immunofluorescence (TUNEL assay and dystrophin staining) to evaluate tissue damage. Fibrin tissue deposition, complement deposition and NETs were investigated by immunofluorescence. Citrullinated plasma proteins were immunoprecipitated and citrullinated fibrinogen was identified in the plasma by Western blot and in the tissue by immunofluorescence and Western blot.ResultsOur data consolidate the involvement of NETs in a porcine model of limb IRI, correlating their contribution to damage extension with the duration of the ischemic time. We found a massive infiltration of NETs in the group subjected to 9 h ischemia compared to the 1 h and citrullinated fibrinogen levels, in plasma and tissue, were higher in 9 h ischemia group. We propose fibrinogen citrullination as one of the mechanisms contributing to the worsening of IRI. NETs and protein citrullination represent a potential therapeutic target, but approaches are still a matter of debate. Here we introduce the idea of therapeutic approaches against citrullination to specifically inhibit PADs extracellularly, avoiding the downstream effects of hypercitrullination and keeping PADs’ and NETs’ intracellular regulatory functions.

IntroductionThe standard treatment for preventing rejection in vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) currently relies on systemic immunosuppression, which exposes the host to well-known side effects. Locally administered immunosuppression strategies have shown promising results to bypass this hurdle. Nevertheless, their progress has been slow, partially attributed to a limited understanding of the essential mechanisms underlying graft rejection. Recent discoveries highlight the crucial involvement of innate immune components, such as neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), in organ transplantation. Here we aimed to prolong graft survival through a tacrolimus-based drug delivery system and to understand the role of NETs in VCA graft rejection.MethodsTo prevent off-target toxicity and promote graft survival, we tested a locally administered tacrolimus-loaded on-demand drug delivery system (TGMS-TAC) in a multiple MHC-mismatched porcine VCA model. Off-target toxicity was assessed in tissue and blood. Graft rejection was evaluated macroscopically while the complement system, T cells, neutrophils and NETs were analyzed in graft tissues by immunofluorescence and/or western blot. Plasmatic levels of inflammatory cytokines were measured using a Luminex magnetic-bead porcine panel, and NETs were measured in plasma and tissue using DNA-MPO ELISA. Lastly, to evaluate the effect of tacrolimus on NET formation, NETs were induced in-vitro in porcine and human peripheral neutrophils following incubation with tacrolimus.ResultsRepeated intra-graft administrations of TGMS-TAC minimized systemic toxicity and prolonged graft survival. Nevertheless, signs of rejection were observed at endpoint. Systemically, there were no increases in cytokine levels, complement anaphylatoxins, T-cell subpopulations, or neutrophils during rejection. Yet, tissue analysis showed local infiltration of T cells and neutrophils, together with neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in rejected grafts. Interestingly, intra-graft administration of tacrolimus contributed to a reduction in both T-cellular infiltration and NETs. In fact, in-vitro NETosis assessment showed a 62–84% reduction in NETs after stimulated neutrophils were treated with tacrolimus.ConclusionOur data indicate that the proposed local delivery of immunosuppression avoids off-target toxicity while prolonging graft survival in a multiple MHC-mismatch VCA model. Furthermore, NETs are found to play a role in graft rejection and could therefore be a potential innovative therapeutic target.

BackgroundVascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) offers the potential for a biological, functional reconstruction in individuals with limb loss or facial disfigurement. Yet, it faces substantial challenges due to heightened immune rejection rates compared to solid organ transplants. A deep understanding of the genetic and immunological drivers of VCA rejection is essential to improve VCA outcomesMethodsHeterotopic porcine hindlimb VCA models were established and followed until reaching the endpoint. Skin and muscle samples were obtained from VCA transplant recipient pigs for histological assessments and RNA sequencing analysis. The rejection groups included recipients with moderate pathological rejection, treated locally with tacrolimus encapsulated in triglycerol-monostearate gel (TGMS-TAC), as well as recipients with severe end-stage rejection presenting evident necrosis. Healthy donor tissue served as controls. Bioinformatics analysis, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy were utilized to examine gene expression patterns and the expression of immune response markers.ResultsOur comprehensive analyses encompassed differentially expressed genes, Gene Ontology, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathways, spanning various composite tissues including skin and muscle, in comparison to the healthy control group. The analysis revealed a consistency and reproducibility in alignment with the pathological rejection grading. Genes and pathways associated with innate immunity, notably pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), and antigen processing and presentation pathways, exhibited upregulation in the VCA rejection groups compared to the healthy controls. Our investigation identified significant shifts in gene expression related to cytokines, chemokines, complement pathways, and diverse immune cell types, with CD8 T cells and macrophages notably enriched in the VCA rejection tissues. Mechanisms of cell death, such as apoptosis, necroptosis and ferroptosis were observed and coexisted in rejected tissues.ConclusionOur study provides insights into the genetic profile of tissue rejection in the porcine VCA model. We comprehensively analyze the molecular landscape of immune rejection mechanisms, from innate immunity activation to critical stages such as antigen recognition, cytotoxic rejection, and cell death. This research advances our understanding of graft rejection mechanisms and offers potential for improving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to enhance the long-term success of VCA.

Due to the fact that arthrosis is a disease that affects a very large number of people, we felt that presenting some aspects of its pathophysiology and kinetoprophylaxis will be helpful to those working in the field of recovery and beyond. The literature also describes a rather complex clinical picture regarding the processes of degradation and deconditioning of the anatomical joint structures.The presentation of the factors of etiopathogenesis of gonarthrosis and the kinetoprophylactic means of preserving the function of the knee joint is the subject of the study that is intended to be presented. Analysis of the etiopathogenic factors and combating the effects of arthrosis installation through a model of analytical investigation of them, the results obtained from the analysis can be the basis for the realization of a kinetoprophylaxis program.

The present work is the result of an analysis aimed at preserving the function of the respiratory system and at achieving a prophylactic approach that allows senescent people to adopt a healthy lifestyle. The physiological processes of deconditioning in senescent people are slow to establish themselves, have an upward dynamic and are irreversible. It is also in this context that we believe that the autonomic mechanisms of breathing regulation are able to ensure a sufficient oxygen supply to sustain a healthy status, if all the factors involved in the activity of the respiratory apparatus are properly managed.

Abstract The genomic landscape of Stone Age Europe was shaped by multiple migratory waves and population replacements, but different regions do not all show similar patterns. To refine our understanding of the population dynamics before and after the dawn of the Neolithic, we generated and analyzed genomic sequence data from human remains of 56 individuals from the Mesolithic, Neolithic, and Eneolithic across Central and Eastern Europe. We found that Mesolithic European populations formed a geographically widespread isolation-by-distance zone ranging from Central Europe to Siberia, which was already established 10,000 years ago. We found contrasting patterns of population continuity during the Neolithic transition: people around the lower Dnipro Valley region, Ukraine, showed continuity over 4000 years, from the Mesolithic to the end of the Neolithic, in contrast to almost all other parts of Europe where population turnover drove this cultural change, including vast areas of Central Europe and around the Danube River.

This paper aims to present some of the usual aspects that accompany the processes of installation and development of scoliotic attitudes in prepubertal children. The aspects presented are known and are not new, however the approach to postural deficits at this age is superficial in terms of investigations/assessments. Often discovered too late, many spinal deviations are progressive and difficult to manage. For these reasons, we believe that this paper can raise the attention of specialists and not only a wake-up call to combat these postural deficits that may start in prepubertal age.

In the present paper, the aim is to carry out a comparative analysis in order to manage the therapeutic pathway in the post-immobilization period in trauma to the elbow joint in children. Due to the fact that this pathology is quite common and requires special attention to prevent the onset of joint stiffness that accompanies this trauma. We believe that this work will be a useful material due to the fact that it brings up to date elements of diagnosis, evaluation and kinetotherapeutic recovery.

Background: Free tissue transfer is considered the gold standard in reconstruction of extensive defects in head and neck surgery. The aim of this 15-year retrospective study is to analyze the outcomes of free tissue transfers in the head and neck area in a tertiary referral university hospital. Materials and methods: A retrospective, single-center study of all patients undergoing free tissue transfers for head and neck reconstruction between 2006 and 2020 was performed. Patient demographics, comorbidities, flap characteristics, outcomes and complications were assessed. Results: A total of 353 free flaps were performed. The most common defect etiology was synchronous oncologic resection (74.2%). The majority of patients had at least one comorbidity (70.3%), with smoking recorded in 46.2% of the cases and alcohol consumption in 31.7%. The anterolateral thigh flap was the most commonly used flap (37.7%), followed by the osteoseptocutaneous fibula flap (26.9%). Our overall flap success rate was 97.7%, while the overall complication rate was 45.9%. Conclusions: Free tissue transfer in head and neck reconstruction is reliable. However, complication rates remain high due to the complexity of such cases and frequent presence of comorbidities. Nonetheless, when effectively managed within a multidisciplinary team, complications rarely jeopardize the overall reconstruction outcome.

The paper analyses several archaeological features discovered during an excavation performed on the outskirts of Isaccea, during the summer of 2018, in the easternmost part of the Noviodunum archaeological site. Of the three documented features, two are funerary structures: one is a pit in which cremation remains and grave goods were deposited, while the other is either a ‘deviant’ burial, or a secondary burial of a part of the skeleton. The last feature offered inconclusive results. The grave goods discovered are numerous and diverse: different types of pottery, as well as metal artefacts. Thus, the following information completes the repertoire of funerary discoveries from Noviodunum and the northern part of the Roman province of Moesia Inferior.

This paper aims to present some aspects accompanying the process of callus healing of a tibia and fibula fracture reduced by the application of osteosynthesis material. Also in the same context we will describe a case in which fracture reduction can evolve viciously due to clinical or post-surgical approach variables. Timely identification of possible conflicts in the callus processes will allow the bone and soft tissue alignment to be reshaped in order to achieve a functional recovery of the traumatized segment.

Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a procedure that removes damaged bone and car-tilage and replaces it with prosthetic components and is performed by orthopedics. Objective: management of post-operative rehabilitation of THA patients in terms of content and comple-tion criteria of physiotherapy sessions. The research aims to explore the experience of Romani-an physiotherapists about the content and completion criteria of physiotherapy sessions in-volved in the management of postoperative rehabilitation after THA. Methods: The method used in this study was a questionnaire-based survey, with 120 Romanian specialists in the field completing an online screening tool that contained, along with a socio-demographic question-naire, a series of questions about their professional experience. Results: One of the most im-portant results of the study is the identification of statistically significant associations between the completion criteria of physiotherapy sessions and three techniques included in the rehabil-itation program after THA: edema management, gait re-education exercises, and exercises to increase hip mobility. Conclusion: The the research revealed that the experience of Romanian specialists regarding postoperative rehabilitation after THA is concordant with the experience of specialists in the field, and can be used to develop and test an individualized therapeutic protocol and to design continuing professional training programs for physiotherapists in Romania.

Background. The study aims to perform a somatoscopic analysis on a sample of 100 prepubertal children aged 10-14 years, girls and boys, who are diagnosed with scoliosis. Somatoscopic as-sessment is one of the most commonly used, therefore we thought that making a way of inter-preting the results could be useful to monitor postural attitude in children diagnosed with sco-liosis. Identifying the early onset of physical impairment in the spine with somatoscopy can be a key factor in maintaining optimal postural status. This approach may help in achieving a way of working that limits the negative effects of scoliosis on the subjects. Materials and methods. The selection of subjects is based on exclusion and inclusion criteria related to age, comorbidi-ties, therapeutic approach, and other criteria. Also, aspects that accompany the growth and de-velopment process of children in this prepubertal period and factors that may disturb this pro-cess are described in detail. Also in this context, we will present basic notions of body posture and etiopathogenesis of the onset of scoliotic deficiencies in children during this period of growth and development. Somatoscopic analysis is performed in the orthostatic position and is based on the identification of anatomical landmarks of the body concerning body posture. Re-sults. BackgroundJoint allotransplantation (JA) within the field of vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA) holds great potential for functional and non-prosthetic reconstruction of severely damaged joints. However, clinical use of JA remains limited due to the immune rejection associated with all forms of allotransplantation. In this study, we aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of JA through a systematic review of clinical, animal, and immunological studies on this topic.MethodsWe conducted a systematic literature review in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines to identify relevant articles in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases. The results were analyzed, and potential future prospects were discussed in detail.ResultsOur review included 14 articles describing relevant developments in JA. Currently, most JA-related research is being performed in small animal models, demonstrating graft survival and functional restoration with short-term immunosuppression. In human patients, only six knee allotransplantations have been performed to date, with all grafts ultimately failing and a maximum graft survival of 56 months.ConclusionResearch on joint allotransplantation has been limited over the last 20 years due to the rarity of clinical applications, the complex nature of surgical procedures, and uncertain outcomes stemming from immune rejection. However, the key to overcoming these challenges lies in extending graft survival and minimizing immunosuppressive side effects. With the emergence of new immunosuppressive strategies, the feasibility and clinical potential of vascularized joint allotransplantation warrants further investigation.

This study presents the analysis of the mechanisms of adaptation or deconditioning of the organism in conditions of stress/immobilization. It is also, intended to present some specific aspects of these mechanisms in order to be able to predict the future of the evolution of health. In this sense, we will present the two directions that can influence the state of health, well-being or illness.

This investigative approach aims to highlight the influence that socialization has through physical presence during undergraduate studies. We also want to analyze the factors that were unfavorable to the teaching act as well as the decisive role in choosing the career path for students who finish their studies. At the same time, we will highlight some aspects of the issues that accompanied the teaching act during the SARS-COV-2 pandemic.

Background: The aim of the paper is to assess the cognitive and functional status of a segment of the population for a senescent age group. These assessments can help develop intervention strategies to improve the cognitive and functional status of these individuals as well as promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The assessment of cognitive and functional status in a segment of the population during senescence can identify certain problems and deficiencies in cognitive and physical functioning and can help develop physical activities to optimize the cognitive and functional state of senescent people. Objectives: To identify the cognitive and functional profile of the studied age group; Pointing out risk factors for cognitive and functional deterioration; Suggesting physical activities to improve cognitive and functional status. Methods: The recorded data helps us develop personalized aquatic programs to improve health and physical performance, tailored to the individual needs of participants, to be used over 6 months in 2024. Results: The findings suggested by the collected data, recognises a significant link between subjects' body mass index and their physical test scores. Conclusions: Analysis of the data allows us to identify risk factors, including chronic conditions, adopted lifestyle, genetic influences or other environmental conditioning, that could contribute to cognitive and functional decline in the older population.

The case study presented aims to analyze the pathophysiological mechanisms and dynamics of the processes of deconditioning of the musculoskeletal system in people with diabetes, morphophysiological changes of major cardio-respiratory and neuro-endocrine functional systems. We will also present a kinetic approach in order to limit these deconditioning processes in order to maintain the best health status.

The purpose of our study is to present some general aspects regarding approach to the therapeutic path in the case of the hip prosthesis following a trauma to the lower limb and femoral neck fracture in the elderly. This surgery seems quite easy nowadays, when the surgical techniques are a real progress in terms of means of investigation and treatment. However, the approach must be taken on a case-bycase basis. To understand the pathophysiological mechanisms and the application of the therapeutic means in hip prosthesis, we will present a case study in which we will apply specific kinetic means to post-surgical recovery.

We inaugurate through the material below the interview section of the Romanian Journal of Library and Information Science. This new section aims to bring opinions and comments directly from specialists in the field and other interested people. The first interview is with Mrs. Delia Pantea, librarian in charge with methodological assistance, "Gheorghe Șincai" County Library Bihor. The interview comes in the context in which the Bihor County Council decided to cut 17 occupied positions from the organizational chart of the county library and to abolish two branches.

Libraries are a natural hotspot for volunteer work, they can act as both beneficiaries and organizers of volunteers and their work. Volunteer programs in the libraries cover an important range of possibilities, from basic library work (moving books, assisting users that need help) to specialized activities (language courses, computer courses, specialized activities with persons with disabilities) and everything in between. This study aims to offer an overview of the situation regarding volunteer work in Romanian public libraries. It seeks to find out whether and how the county libraries and the two national libraries use volunteers.

There are direct interconnections between the effort physiopathology and cardio-respiratory system with the chanes of somato-functional parameters during the tiring physical activities or with missing periods of time from activities those may determine the deconditioning of all body functions.

The negative influence of isolation or immobilization for a longer time over health is a reality accepted and confirmed with documents by the majority of specialists in health and not anly in this field. I realized this presentation to emphasize some of the negative aspects, that triggers and favorites the installation of a pathogenic functional status, which may have distructive effect over health, of some means to limit them.

This study aims to present some elements of pediatric anatomy-physiology and semiology with reference to the period of growth and development on body posture disorder due to the installation of functional physical deficiencies of the spine. But the cause of this deficit is known, namely the inequality of the lower limbs. In this sense, the management and start of a program for the preservation of postural function can be applied as early as possible with high chances of success.

BACKGROUND: A marked increase in bariatric surgery has led to higher numbers of patients with contour deformities after massive weight loss seeking plastic surgical correction. Insurance coverage for these post-bariatric interventions is highly subjective and a common set of objective criteria has not yet been established. AIM: The aim was to evaluate the factors influencing insurance coverage for post-bariatric surgery, focusing on finding objective, reproducible criteria. METHODS: This was a retrospective single centre chart review of all post-bariatric patients with redundant skin requesting body contouring surgery from 2013 to 2018. Demographic, bariatric and surgical, as well as insurance information were collected. A logistic regression model was used to identify predictors of successful insurance coverage. RESULTS: 116 Patients were included in the study. Insurance approval for post-bariatric body contouring surgery was obtained for only 47 patients (41%). Our study comes from the desire to highlight certain problems faced by adulthood, as well as the awareness of practicing physical exercise in water and on land, in order to combat them. Hypothesis of the work; it is assumed that through a thorough study in terms of body composition and mental status of patients of adult age, we will identify some problems that arise during this period of life and at the same time we will be able to develop truthful programs by applying physical means. The purpose of our work consists in highlighting the main problems of normoponderality and mental status on the patients subjected to the study by applying various tests that will highlight these aspects. Objectives of the study: Identification of body composition and mental status of adult patients; Patients' awareness of the normoponderality and mental problems arising from the applied tests; Promoting physical activities on land and in water, in adulthood. The result of questioning the subjects subjected to the study on the evaluation of the mental status revealed the fact that they have a temporal, spatial orientation, an adequate memory and attention, as well as a reading-writing and copying capacity corresponding to the age, and the determination of the body composition was achieved with the help of the "Tanita" device through which it was found an average of the group of subjects of 43.13% fat, 25,80 % muscle mass, 6,83 % bone mass, and water 42,22 %.

Forager focus on wild cereal plants has been documented in the core zone of domestication in southwestern Asia, while evidence for forager use of wild grass grains remains sporadic elsewhere. In this paper, we present starch grain and phytolith analyses of dental calculus from 60 Mesolithic and Early Neolithic individuals from five sites in the Danube Gorges of the central Balkans. This zone was inhabited by likely complex Holocene foragers for several millennia before the appearance of the first farmers ~6200 cal BC. We also analyzed forager ground stone tools (GSTs) for evidence of plant processing. Our results based on the study of dental calculus show that certain species of Poaceae (species of the genus Aegilops) were used since the Early Mesolithic, while GSTs exhibit traces of a developed grass grain processing technology. The adoption of domesticated plants in this region after ~6500 cal BC might have been eased by the existing familiarity with wild cereals.

Introduction. In the last decade, we are witnessing a transformation in the dynamics of the development of human morpho-functional structures, influenced by the socio-economic system. Among the harmful factors of contemporary civilization we list the lack of physical exercise as well as the inadequate diet. We start from the premise that by practicing constant physical activities we can demonstrate the influence of the morphological status of the adults under study. The aim of this work is to analyse some body composition parameters of adults who are moderately physically active. Results. The objectives of the study are: to identify how subjects practice physical activity, to raise awareness of the importance of the effects of physical exercise on health, to analyse and interpret the data recorded on body composition parameters using the Tanita apparatus. Conclusions: The practice of constant activities on adults leads to beneficial morpho-functional changes in the body, giving it a capacity to adapt to effort and increased resistance to pathogenic factors.

Abstract: Worldwide neurological disorders that particularly affect the central nervous system are a major health challenge, leading to deficits accompanied by neuromorphic sequelae with implications for the functional state of the body. Background: Current studies show that hemorrhagic stroke occurs mainly at a young age, often fatal as opposed to ischemic stroke that characterizes old age or an alert lifestyle, both types of strokes can result in motor sequelae and functional (mild, moderate or severe hemiparesis or haemiplegia). The peculiarity of the studied case is the coexistence of multiple comorbidities which require an interdisciplinary team to solve (neurologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist, physiotherapist, psychotherapist, aquatic therapy instructor). The aim of our paper is to demonstrate the efficiency of exercise in the aquatic environment, facilitating the recovery of the functions of the neuro-myo-arthro-kinetic apparatus as well as the cardiovascular and metabolic functions. Results: The main objective is general and muscular relaxation, re-education of external and proprioceptive sensitivity, orthostatic posture and gait reeducation, in conditions of stability and balance. Conclusions: Through the means of aquatic therapy, an attempt is made to obtain the independence of self-care in order to interrelate with the environment, to regain the ADLs, , the family and socio-professional reintegration of the patient.

Introduction The adult woman has a complex of endocrine metabolic changes that can influence and cause various disorders in the body regarding the decrease of functional and regulatory ca-pacities. The involuntary changes in a woman's aging highlight both the appearance and the functionality. In this sense, we intend to conduct a study on morphological changes, parameters that represent risk factors in the development of osteoporosis. Studies by Kanis (1) and Munshi (2) show that maintaining adequate bone mass as well as ensuring adequate muscle tone can prevent osteoporosis, and a pronounced incidence of the onset and development of chronic de-generative pathologies can promote fractures. Material and method. In connection with the elu-cidation of this aspect, we will use the Frax estimation method, which is based on the introduc-tion of values obtained from medical evaluations. Regarding the study, we propose to the sub-jects a therapeutic swimming program to avoid the occurrence of osteoporotic fractures. Results and discussions. Regarding the field of factors favoring the estimation of a fracture in the items regarding cortisone treatments, alcohol consumption, digestive problems, minor traumas, the investigated subjects answered with No 100%.In order to obtain objective results, the study will continue for a period of 1 year, the intermediate tests will be performed after 4 months from the beginning of the work program and at the same time the program will undergo changes, de-pending on the results obtained from the evaluations. Conclusions. The implementation of this water exercise program will lead to adaptive changes in the direction of limiting the unevolu-tionary processes of senescence.

This article presents a study conducted by questioning of students from three different schools in the city Suceava. This aims to determine the students participate in sports and outside of curriculum hours school. Exercise practiced physical constant may be a factor determining the growth and harmonious development as well as maintaining optimal health status.

This article is based on a study carried out in a more ample research aimed at updating the information available to education, healthcare specialists and parents regarding the occurrence, evolution and management of the spinal physical functional abnormalities in prepubertal children and kinesiotherapy as a means of prevention or recovery.

Preventive archaeological excavations in 2013 at Enisala–Palanca, Sarichioi, Tulcea County (south-east Romania) brought to light 210 medieval archaeological features. 118 skeletons we recovered during these excavations dated in the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. This report presents a short version of the demographic, metric and paleopathological data acquired during the anthropological analysis of this skeletal sample. A more detailed analysis of this cemetery and of other contemporary skeletal samples from Dobrudja province are to be publish along with the archaeological result of the excavations from this medieval site.

The paper presents the Early Iron Age discoveries resulted in the archaeological excavations carried out in the year 2000 at the Niculiţel–Cornet site. During this campaign, 126 archaeological complexes were researched (most of them being deposit pits) and a considerably large quantity of pottery, clay objects, a bronze bracelet, animal and stone hard materials were discovered, which are here analyzed. Lacking the proper objects that could give us a more precise chronology, the settlement from Niculiţel–Cornet can be largely dated between the 10th-9th c. BC. Until now we have only one carbon dating extracted from the Cas-7 complex, which indicates a dating of 2730± 35 BP.

Recent excavations in the necropolis at Valea Stânii led to the attestation of the kaolin little beads as grave goods (in the tumulus No. 1, 4 and 10), for the first time in the north-Thracian culture at the end of the Early Iron Age (Ferigile group). These adornments are widespread throughout the 7th-6th centuries BC within a large area, from the North of the Caucasus (in the tombs of the early Scythian culture) to the South-East of Poland (in a milieu corresponding to the Tarnobrzeg Lusatian culture), and from the Lower Danube to Northern Ukraine (in the Scythian tombs of the Aksiutincy area). A high density of such kind of adornments was documented in the tombs of the Ciumbrud group, in Transylvania. Their arrangement in the grave goods framework typical for the inhumation tombs and their relation to the preserved skeletons indicate that they were worn in necklaces, on the head or coiled around the neck. According to the characteristics of the grave goods with which these adornments were associated within sealed contexts, but also in agreement with some anthropological determinations, the necklaces of kaolin beads were the attribute of the female attire. The anthropological study of the burnt bones in the No. 4 tumulus tends to confirm this fact. Beyond the archaeological discussion, the paper displays the results of parallel investigations on some samples from the No. 1 grave at Valea Stânii, delivered by RATEN-ICN Pitești and „Horia Hulubei” IFIN Măgurele laboratories. A bead fragment was examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy Dispersion X-Ray Spectrometry. The characterization of the fracture surface of the archaeological artefact showed the presence of small particles with different shapes and morphology. Some of them were crystallites with sharp edges that displayed a pattern with parallel lines, representing the crystalline plans of particle, others were areas containing either small or bigger particles rounded by cracks. The EDS analysis of a large field indicated the presence of Oxygen, Silicon, Aluminium as main chemical elements and also the presence of Iron, Potassium, Titanium, Magnesium and Calcium. EDS mapping of these elements demonstrated the presence of Oxygen and Silicon in isolated areas whereas other elements were absent, while the rest of the surface is composed of all these elements. The EDS multi-point analysis determined the chemical composition that indicated the presence of complex silicates formed with Aluminium, Iron, Potassium, Titanium and Calcium. Vibrational spectroscopy methods give information on the samples’ functional groups/chemical bonds and allow the identification of compounds by comparing them with reference spectra. The following Fourier Transform (FT) techniques were used for investigations: micro DRIFT (Diffuse Reflectance Infrared), KBr pellet transmission FTIR and FT-Raman. The DRIFT spectra showed the very specific OH kaolin strong bands of 3695 and 3620 cm-1. In the FTIR spectra, silicate SiO2 bands of 1088, 796, 779, 694 and 465 cm-1 helped us to conclude that the material used for beads was kaolin paste. In the FT-Raman spectra the SiO2 bands of 466 and 129 cm-1 were identified. The results of the laboratory investigations provide a reference database for future investigations on this specific type of adornment.

This study uses bibliometric indicators to show the evolution of Romanian research in the 2007-2015 interval. It focuses on the number of published citable items, citations received by these items and the relationship between these two indicators in order to highlight the trends that define Romanian research.

Archaeological surveys in 1972 and in 2010-2011 at University Square in Bucharest, Romania, led to the discovery of 688 graves in the cemetery of St. Sava Church, dated to 16th-19th centuries. The Ottoman, Tartar, Russian and Austrian invasions of Bucharest in the late and modern periods are likely responsible for the death of some the individuals buried in St. Sava cemetery. The object of this paper is the analysis of the violent injuries identified on the skeletons, detailing their type, location, distribution by sex and age, affected skeleton segments, incidence of peri- and antemortem traumas. The results of these observations were compared to data from other sites with similar temporal and geographical features as to ascertain the possibility of a distribution pattern of the traumas depending on type, sex and age of the individuals etc. Male individuals account for greater number of injuries compared to the females, leading us to the conclusion that men were the main target of the attacks. The demographic profile of the individuals that suffered violent traumas (peri- or antemortem) also shows higher incidence for 30 to 49 year olds and absence of “defensive” injuries on the limbs for most analyzed individuals. Given these observations, we conclude that most of the individuals were civilians who fell victim to military violence during the invasions or to sporadic civilian attacks.

This study deals with the anthropological research of a skull discovered in the Roman-Byzantine layer and a skeleton (Grave 1) dated between the second half of the 7th century and 5th century BC, found at the entrance of the Skulls Cave in Cheile Dobrogei area, Constanța County. Both relics belong to adult female individuals. The analysis shows that the missing segments of the skull from the Roman-Byzantine layer are the result of accidental postmortem damage and not of intentional “cut-out” of the skull base. The skeleton in Grave 1 shows high incidence of caries and dental abscesses, healed fractures of bones from both hands (probably a result of an accidental fall) and a small osteoma on the right parietal bone. Some bones show signs of animal teeth, gaps and cracks that cannot be related to assumed beheading of the individual, but to postmortem interventions. This explains the partial anatomical connection of the skeleton, lack of the long bones of the upper right limb, as well as skull placement over the pelvis separated from the jaw. Grave 1 dating to a time when such discoveries are rare is also under discussion; some funerary ritual elements (placement near a cave, crouched position, presence of ochre etc.) are not specific to Babadag or La Tène period discoveries.

Abstract Background Microsurgical anastomosis is the basis for free tissue transfer. The goal of this study was to create an animal model that mimics free tissue transfer but would focus on the arterial anastomotic assessment alone, without additional bias of a venous anastomosis. Methods A vertical rectus abdominis musculocutaneous (VRAM) flap based on the left deep superior epigastric artery (DSEA) was raised in six large white pigs. The right DSEA was raised and used as the donor vessel. An arterial end-to-end microsurgical anastomosis was then performed between the right and the left SEA artery. The lateral deep epigastric vein (DIEV) was left intact to drain the flap. Perfusion of the flap was confirmed clinically by laser Doppler and by flowmetry. Results One flap failure was observed in this study that occurred on postoperative day (POD) 5 as a consequence of venous occlusion due to hematoma. There was a significant initial drop in arterial flow across the anastomosis in comparison to preanastomotic flow measurements (p 0.05). Archaeological research in 1968-1977 at Suceveni-Stoborăni site, Galati County (southern Moldavia), led to the identification of an Early Iron Age settlement that can be ascribed to Babadag culture. Three pits contained human bones: a collective burial with the bones of four individuals deposited in unnatural positions; one pit with the skeleton of a child in flexed position; and another complex with disturbed human remains. After studying the available documentation, we analyzed these finds, discussing the chronology and cultural ascription, state of representation of the bodies, number of individuals, anthropological observations, data on the position and orientation of the dead, observations on the assumed rituals, as well as on the place of deposition.

The importance of the process of Neolithization for the genetic make-up of European populations has been hotly debated, with shifting hypotheses from a demic diffusion (DD) to a cultural diffusion (CD) model. In this regard, ancient DNA data from the Balkan Peninsula, which is an important source of information to assess the process of Neolithization in Europe, is however missing. In the present study we show genetic information on ancient populations of the South-East of Europe. We assessed mtDNA from ten sites from the current territory of Romania, spanning a time-period from the Early Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age. mtDNA data from Early Neolithic farmers of the Starčevo Criş culture in Romania (Cârcea, Gura Baciului and Negrileşti sites), confirm their genetic relationship with those of the LBK culture (Linienbandkeramik Kultur) in Central Europe, and they show little genetic continuity with modern European populations. On the other hand, populations of the Middle-Late Neolithic (Boian, Zau and Gumelniţa cultures), supposedly a second wave of Neolithic migration from Anatolia, had a much stronger effect on the genetic heritage of the European populations. In contrast, we find a smaller contribution of Late Bronze Age migrations to the genetic composition of Europeans. Based on these findings, we propose that permeation of mtDNA lineages from a second wave of Middle-Late Neolithic migration from North-West Anatolia into the Balkan Peninsula and Central Europe represent an important contribution to the genetic shift between Early and Late Neolithic populations in Europe, and consequently to the genetic make-up of modern European populations.

Impact resistance and energy absorbing capability are of great interest in the design of composite sandwich structures. This paper experimentally studies damage, failure and energy absorption properties of foam core sandwich panels with aluminum and glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) facesheets subjected to low velocity impact. Tests are performed using a drop weight impact tower at different impact velocities. The energy absorbing capabilities of aluminum and composite facesheet sandwich panels with PUR and PS foam core are evaluated by means of absorbed energy-time histories and by specific parameters as normalized absorbed energy, specific energy absorption, and crush force efficiency. Stiffer panels behave better at lower impact velocities, while more ductile ones do better if impact energy is increased.
