This article provides the first in-depth study of historic content and materials used in the production of a liturgical codex from the collection of manuscripts of the Monastery of Alcoba��a: the Psalter-hymnal (Lisbon, National Library, Alc. 11). To answer provenance questions and trace the manuscript���s history, a multidisciplinary team studied the entire procedure of making the codex, which went from in-depth textual, liturgical, and codicological analyses, to examining material composition and bookbinding methods with complementary analytical techniques. The team was able to track the manuscript���s historical trajectory through successive additions and interventions/alterations. Interpretation of the historic information and the resulting technical data confirmed the belief that this is a twelfth-century manuscript produced in the scriptorium of Alcoba��a and underlined the role that the manuscript played in this Cistercian monastery during the Middle Ages, and possibly throughout the following centuries. This led the team to approach the codex���s ���cultural significance��� and perceive later alterations and interventions as evidence of the monks��� intensive use of this manuscript and the great care they took to preserve their monastic library. The new data and knowledge acquired about this precious codex proved to be fundamental for future digital access policy definition and the conservation making decision.

O presente relatório consiste num trabalho de investigação sobre o Festival Caldas Anima, um festival de animação de rua inserido na programação do Centro Cultural e de Congressos das Caldas da Rainha (CCC), local onde se realizou o estágio curricular integrado no plano de estudos do Mestrado de Gestão Cultural na ESAD.cr/IPL. O interesse de pesquisa pelo festival Caldas Anima surgiu da constatação da falta de informação existente disponível online relativa ao seu histórico de programação e do desconhecimento do público sobre o evento. O objetivo do trabalho passa por apresentar uma investigação do festival em todas as suas edições e a análise, em benchmarking, de estudos de casos de eventos nacionais e internacionais congéneres, com o fim de propor uma melhor estratégia de comunicação mais eficaz para o evento, contemplando nomeadamente a sugestão da criação de um sítio web que incorpore o arquivo analisado e os contributos gerados.

This paper focuses on the study of different Roman mortars (renders, finishing coats), used in the construction and restoration of the Forum Traiani thermal baths (Central Sardinia, Italy), a significant example of the Roman-style architecture in Sardinia. The archaeological site is located in a high hydrogeological risk area, due to the cyclical flooding of nearby Tirso river. Moreover, the presence of thermal saline (NaCl-bearing) water spring directly in contact with mortars and building stones, also contributed to structure degradation. An analytical approach, comprising mineralogical-petrographic characterization, physical analysis and particle-size distribution of aggregate, was used for mortars characterization. In addition, pXRD analysis on mortars defined the presence of alteration minerals while the thermal characterization (TGA) gave information about binder hydraulicity degree. Further μ-XRD-associated μ-Raman spectroscopy and μ-FTIR were utilized for pigments identification on frescos. Interesting results came from two wall stratigraphic series of mortars, highlighting construction stages, ancient restoring interventions and waterproofing methods. The main pigments used on red, yellow and black frescoes were red ochre, goethite and wood charcoal respectively.

A presente dissertação de Mestrado em Segurança e Higiene no Trabalho, tem como principal objetivo avaliar os riscos ergonómicos existentes nas salas de aulas e nalguns postos de trabalho administrativos da Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (ESTIG) do Instituto Politécnico de Beja. O estudo ergonómico está com o conforto dos utilizadores nas mais devidas tarefas do dia-a-dia. De uma forma integrada pretende-se promover a segurança, a saúde e o bem-estar do utilizador, bem como a eficácia do sistema em que está envolvido. Para esse efeito foi necessário um estudo das medidas antropométricas dos funcionários não docentes e aplicar o método de avaliação. O estudo tem como objetivo geral conhecer a perceção do bem-estar ergonómico dos funcionários docentes, dos funcionários não docentes e dos discentes da ESTIG. Para alcançar o objetivo definido foi aplicado um questionário aos discentes, funcionários docentes e funcionários não docentes, foram também aplicados Métodos de Avaliação de Riscos Ergonómicos a três funcionários não docentes, durante a realização das suas atividades profissionais nos postos de trabalho administrativos. No que diz respeito à prevalência de sintomas associados às lesões musculoesqueléticas relacionadas com o trabalho, concretizado através da análise da frequência das respostas assinaladas no Nordic Muskuloskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), aferimos que as queixas no pescoço, ombros e região lombar prevalecem em 46 %, 35% e 56% de toda amostra. Verificamos ainda que 53% dos respondentes disseram que a cadeira não fornece um suporte firme para o apoio dorsal, adotando assim, uma postura não adequada, e ainda 61% dos respondentes dizem sentir desconforto térmico. No caso da aplicação no método Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) e Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) aos três funcionários não docentes, apresentavam melhorias na sua postura após a informação fornecida.

This work focuses on the material characterization of a sixteenth century illuminated antiphonary housed in the Biblioteca Pública de Évora (BPE) – the Manizola 116c. Based on several optical and spectroscopic techniques, namely optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), micro-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (μ-FTIR), Fibre­Optic Reflectance Spectroscopy (FORS) in the ultraviolet and visible range (UV-Vis) and handheld-energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (h-EDXRF), it was possible to identify the use of different azurite ground on different degrees of fineness to produce a range of blue hues throughout the manuscript as well as some differences in some of the paints’ compositions suggesting the presence of two different hands for producing the illuminations. Digital images of the illuminations acquired with different angles for the light source revealed very interesting features concerning the painting technique used to produce these illuminations and with what could have been the intention of the illuminator to influence the relation between the reader and the manuscript. Este trabalho baseia-se na caracterização de algumas das especificidades materiais presentes num antifonário iluminado do século XVI à guarda da Biblioteca Pública de Évora (BPE) – o Códice Manizola 116c. Da análise com recurso a várias técnicas de microscopia e espectroscopia, nomeadamente a microscopia óptica (OM), microscopia eletrónica de varrimento com um sistema de microanálise por espectroscopia de raios-X por dispersão de energias acoplado (SEM-EDS), micro-espectroscopia de infravermelhos com transformada de Fourier (μ-FTIR), espectroscopia de reflectância (FORS) no ultravioleta-visível (UV-Vis) e fluorescência de raios-X por dispersão de energia portátil (h-EDXRF), foi possível identificar a utilização de diferentes granulometrias de azurite para produzir diferentes tons de azul ao longo do manuscrito, assim como diferenças nas composições de algumas tintas, sugerindo a presença de duas mãos diferentes para a produção das iluminuras. A aquisição de imagens digitais com diferentes ângulos de iluminação revelou características muito interessantes no que diz respeito à técnica de pintura utilizada para produzir as iluminuras e com o que poderia ter sido a intenção do iluminador de influenciar a relação entre o leitor e o manuscrito.

The parchments were characterized by microscopy and non-destructive techniques (FTIR-ATR and micro-Raman) and, microsamples were collected in order to perform protein and DNA extraction processes. Results allowed to identify differences at structural level, based on hole patterns and molecular signs. Proteic and DNA profiles, obtained by Native-PAGE and M13-PCR, respectively, allowed to distinguish parchments with different animal origins. The application of these approaches, using proteic and molecular markers, seems to be a useful tool to complement the study and identification of the animal sources of historical parchments.

This essay presents the European Arrest Warrant and its relationship with the principle of double criminality, which was abolished in 2002 with the new Framework Decision (FD). This instrument was essential to implement the principle of mutual recognition and strengthen the police and judicial cooperation in criminal matters in the newly created space of freedom, security and justice. It was urgent to create mechanisms to combat cross-border crime, that alone States have struggled to counter. An analysis of the FD No 2002/584/JHA is made. The execution of warrants and the non-mandatory and optional grounds of refusal are studied in detail. As it is the implementation issue. The role of mutual recognition in practice is studied as well. The procedure is to introduce the principle of double criminality, to explain the concept and its abolition, warning for the consequences derived from them, related to the principle of legality and fundamental rights. The analysis of the European Arrest Warrant in practice in Portugal and in comparison with other Member States allows the measurement of the consequences from the abolition of dual criminality and the position of States on this measure. With the abolition of double criminality, the cooperation in judicial and criminal matters departs from what was intended by the European Council of Tampere. And without cooperation, fundamental rights of citizens are unprotected, so the states have to adopt measures to remedy the "failures" of the European Law. Este trabalho apresenta o Mandado de Detenção Europeu e a sua relação com o princípio da dupla incriminação, que foi abolida em 2002 com a nova Decisão-quadro (DQ). Este instrumento foi essencial para aplicar o princípio do reconhecimento mútuo e fortalecer a cooperação policial e judiciária em matéria penal no espaço recentemente criado de liberdade, segurança e justiça. Urgia criar mecanismos de combate ao crime transfronteiriço, que os Estados sozinhos já tinham dificuldades em contrariar. É feita uma análise material da DQ n.º 2002/584/JAI e estuda-se em pormenor a emissão e execução de mandados, bem como os motivos de não execução obrigatórios e facultativos. Acrescenta-se o papel essencial do reconhecimento mútuo na prática. Procede-se à introdução do princípio da dupla incriminação, explica-se o conceito e dá-se conta da sua abolição, alertando para as consequências daí derivadas, relacionadas com o princípio da legalidade e os direitos fundamentais. A análise do Mandado de Detenção Europeu na prática em Portugal e em comparação com outros Estados-Membros permite aferir das consequências da abolição da verificação da dupla incriminação e permite verificar qual é a posição dos Estados relativamente a esta medida. Com a abolição da dupla incriminação, a cooperação em matéria judiciária e criminal afastou-se do que era pretendido no Conselho Europeu de Tampere. E sem cooperação, os direitos fundamentais dos cidadãos ficam desprotegidos, tendo os Estados que adoptar medidas para colmatar as “falhas” da Lei Europeia.

There are poor people who do not always supply basic human needs like food, shelter, clothing, education, health care or hunger. Of those who daily diet, not always brings the energy required to maintain the body and for the daily activities of human beings.(1) 800 million people around the world are still hungry,(2) in Portugal poverty reaches values of around 20% of the population.(3) The demographic changes of the last century resulted in the modification, and sometimes reversal of the age pyramids and gave governments, families and the Portuguese society in general, challenges for which they were not prepared, namely regarding the support and care to the elderly. (4) Good health, and thus a good nutritional status is essential for older people to maintain an acceptable quality of life and their contribution in society.(5) Since active and healthy older people beyond remain autonomous, they may be an important resource for their families, communities and economies. (6) Among the risk factors that influence nutritional status, the socioeconomic condition seems to strongly influence the limitation of fruits, vegetables or milk products consumption, and also the involuntary loss in weight. A study conducted in the USA, in a sample of 1.010 elderly people receiving meals at home, 24% reported not always having money to buy food.(7) There is a gap in literature relating aging with poverty, this study pretends to contribute to a better knowledge of this situation in the northeast of Portugal. The relevance of this project it is its application to a increasingly aging population, evaluate the nutritionalst atus of elderly people living in their own houses and being accompanied by old care services and study the relation with the socio-economic condition.
