Abstract

The synthesis and structural characterization of a series of platinum complexes, hearing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) and divinyltetramethylsiloxane (dvtms) as supporting ligands, are described. The reaction of commercially available Karstedt's catalyst (Pt-2{(eta(2) -ViSiMe(2))(2)O}(3)) with in situ generated NHC leads to monomeric platinum(O) complexes in which one NHC is bound to the metal center, as indicated by spectroscopic analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The relative reactivity trend for these complexes as catalysts for the hydrosilylation of alkenes is discussed in terms of NHC ligand steric properties. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

31. An Efficient and Safe Procedure for the Large-Scale Pd-Catalyzed Hydrazonation of Aromatic Chlorides Using Buchwald Technology

Abstract

A convenient, optimized and safe synthesis of N-arylhydrazines, useful as intermediates for active ingredients in agricultural and pharmaceutical applications, is reported. Starting from aryl halides (chlorides and bromides), a palladium-catalyzed carbon−nitrogen coupling reaction followed by an acidic treatment afforded the target molecules in good to excellent yields using low catalyst loadings. This technology has then been successfully applied on a large scale in a pilot plant. This contribution also describes the major improvements in ligand synthesis and the thermal data required to develop a process on a pilot scale.

37. Case report 590: Diffuse pigmented villonodular synovitis with a cartilaginous component.

Abstract

The authors present the case of a patient 54 years of age who developed well-defined osteolysis in the distal end of the humerus, with a slight radiodensity in the soft tissue. The radionuclide scintigram and above all the CT, were useful in defining the characteristics and expansion of the mass more precisely. Surgical intervention and histological examination demonstrated a seemingly unique case of PVNS of the elbow with diffuse cartilaginous components and erosion of the distal end of the humerus. The pathological findings in this unusual case, actually suggested the possibility of an intermediate form of PVNS associated with synovial chondromatosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
