In this guest-editorial for a special section on "Imagination and organizational lives: Exploring the liminality of the human experience", we situate the questions that informed our call for contributions that would outline a different space in which MSR conversations could be stretched, enriched and nurtured in a meaningful way. We hope to encourage imaginative, creative, and soulful questions, musings and reactions to the core proposition outlined, in different poetic ways, by our contributing authors: that art, body, dreams, and bold daring rawness are core to the human experience; and that they are key to imagining how organizations could be managed in a way congruent with the spiritual liveliness of whole, complex, and interconnected beings.

The products obtained in the reaction of cobalt atoms in neat benzene or in a benzene/argon mixture at low temperature have been reinvestigated. At least three cobalt-containing species were detected by IR, namely, Co(C(6)H(6)), Co(C(6)H(6))(2), and Co(x)(C(6)H(6)), x1. The IR bands were assigned to these complexes by monitoring their behavior as a function of (a) Co and C(6)H(6) concentration, (b) isotopic substitution, and (c) photoirradiation. We were able to analyze the sample in neat benzene by both electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and IR spectroscopy and to determine the magnetic parameters (g tensor and Co hyperfine interaction) for the Co(C(6)H(6))(2) sandwich compound. The large number of fundamental bands observed in the IR spectrum of Co(C(6)H(6))(2), the absorption pattern observed in the Co-ring stretching region of the IR spectrum of the mixed complex, Co(C(6)H(6))(C(6)D(6)) and the orthorhombic g-values extracted from the EPR spectrum are most consistent with nonequivalent benzene ligands in Co(C(6)H(6))(2), i.e., C(s) symmetry. A bonding scheme consistent with both the EPR and IR data for Co(C(6)H(6))(2) is discussed.

In this paper, we describe the techniques, methods and context for hacking humans using publicly available information found on the Internet.

This study determines changes in health-related quality of life after elective percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and compares generic and specific measures.Changes in health-related quality of life were measured in consecutive, symptomatic patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary revascularization using the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), the Specific Activity Scale (SAS), and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Classification (CCSC). The patients were interviewed as outpatients before admission and at least 6 months later.There were significant changes in the following SF-36 measures: physical functioning (postscore minus prescore = 19.1 +/- 24.1), role limitations due to physical-health problems (40.4 +/- 47.2), bodily pain (19.9 +/- 29.3), vitality (12.9 +/- 25.1), social functioning (20.0 +/- 33.1), role limitations due to emotional-health problems (26.7 +/- 49.0), and general mental health (7.1 +/- 21.2). General health perceptions did not change significantly. Internal-consistency reliability coefficients for these measures ranged from 0.73 to 0.91. There also was significant improvement in the CCSC class, but the SAS class did not change significantly. Overall, the SF-36 role-physical scale was the most responsive to changes after elective percutaneous coronary revascularization, followed by the CCSC and the SF-36 physical functioning scale.Although this study cannot determine the causal role of elective percutaneous coronary revascularization in these changes, it provides support for the usefulness of these measures in future evaluations of this intervention.

Despite the growing success of the Open Source movement, most of the general public continues to feel that Open Source software is inaccessible to them. This paper discusses five fundamental problems with the current Open Source software development trend, explores why these issues are holding the movement back, and offers solutions that might help overcome these problems. The lack of focus on user interface design causes users to prefer proprietary software’s more intuitive interface. Open Source software tends to lack the complete and accessible documentation that retains users. Developers focus on features in their software, rather than ensuring that they have a solid core. Open Source programmers also tend to program with themselves as an intended audience, rather than the general public. Lastly, there is a widely known stubbornness by Open Source programmers in refusing to learn from what lessons proprietary software has to offer. If Open Source software wishes to become widely used and embraced by the general public, all five of these issues will have to be overcome.

To evaluate outcome measures in a cardiology unit, patient satisfaction was measured. Patients consistently related problems in two areas: pain management and the waiting period before their procedure. After a major system change, patient satisfaction increased 16% and 29% respectively.

This article addresses the struggle of crafting a recognized professional scholarly identity, and reflects on the significance of puppets to interrupt this struggle, assert one’s voice, and creatively occupy one’s space. Our interdisciplinary contribution aims to extend conversations on the realities of academic life that are often muted or diluted such as anxiety, self-doubt, weariness and failure, with implications for creative research practices. We engage the aforementioned realities through a mix of creative and whimsical writing styles (e.g., human-puppet dialogues; poetry; reflection), leveraging insights from the Jungian psychological approach to archetypal symbol and the imagination as well as transformative arts-based approaches involving storytelling, voice, and liminal space. After exploring our own experiences carving out space as creative and reflective scholar-practitioners, we discuss two examples where puppets disrupted the status quo of particular academic settings and provided opportunities for different, more spontaneous forms of engagement with the self and with others.
