Abstract

The agroecological movement emerges as an alternative to modern agriculture and the conventionalization of organic farming. It advocates for the development of agri-food systems grounded in the principles of biodiversity, the strengthening of family farming, food sovereignty, and the reconnection between rural and urban areas. Understanding agroecological experiences worldwide is essential for evaluating their progress in building sustainable agroecosystems. This article aims to comparatively analyze the development of agroecology in Brazil and Italy, highlighting similarities and differences. In Italy, 19.68% of agricultural land is dedicated to organic production, compared to only 0.4% in Brazil—a difference of 49 times. Furthermore, 8.31% of Italian farms are organic, while in Brazil, the figure is only 1.28%. Both countries have followed different paths: in Brazil, the agroecological movement became consolidated in the 1990s, driven by the involvement of NGOs and family farmers. In contrast, in Italy, the movement gained momentum in 2015, with greater engagement from the scientific community. In Italy, agroecology developed within a context dominated by organic farming, whereas in Brazil, the agroecological movement preceded the institutionalization of organic agriculture.

Abstract

This paper presents a quantitative description of field emission in superconducting rf cavities. The goal is to fully reconstruct the physics involved in the phenomenon, from electron current generation at the emitter to the radiation pattern measured by the x-ray detector. The field emission process in the cavity was reconstructed using CST Particle Studio, and then the generation of x-ray radiation and its propagation toward the detectors were modeled analytically. The entire model was then applied to the specific case of the European Spallation Source medium beta superconducting cavities, and the theoretical predictions were cross-checked with experimental data collected during cavity vertical tests.

Abstract

A discussão ao redor das fake news se intensificou após as eleições norte-americanas de 2016 e as brasileiras de 2018. O presente artigo, procura responder se existe forma de frear a propagação dessas notícias falsas com políticas públicas de educação. Para tanto, trata dessas questões utilizando-se dos princípios da Governança da Internet. Foca-se, principalmente, na propagação de fake news no Brasil, durante os últimos 2 anos, utilizando como metodologia de pesquisa o método hipotético-dedutivo, por meio da qual partiu-se da hipótese de que a Governança da Internet, por meio do Comitê Gestor da Internet no Brasil, pode exercer caráter fiscalizatório-normativo e educativo perante a população e, também, os ‘geradores’ de fake news. A técnica de pesquisa utilizada foi a documentação indireta, por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica. O artigo tem como sua conclusão que políticas públicas que incentivem a educação, conscientização e consequentemente a fiscalização dos usuários da Internet, podem ser sim efetivas no combate às fake news. O Comitê Gestor da Internet do Brasil, assim como agências e portais de checagem de fatos e ferramentas que sinalizam a veracidade das informações, auxiliam no processo de segmentar o que é fake news do que é notícia confiável.

Abstract The translocation t(8;9)(p22;p24) results in the production of a chimeric PCM1‐JAK2 fusion protein leading to the constitutive activation of the Janus Kinase 2 that renders this disease potentially sensitive to ruxolitinib. Here, we report an interesting case of PCM1‐JAK2 myeloproliferative neoplasm evolving in myeloid sarcoma and B precursor ALL.

Abstract

This report describes the scientific aims and potentials as well as the preliminary technical design of IRIDE, an innovative tool for multi-disciplinary investigations in a wide field of scientific, technological and industrial applications. IRIDE will be a high intensity 'particle factory', based on a combination of a high duty cycle radio-frequency superconducting electron linac and of high energy lasers. Conceived to provide unique research possibilities for particle physics, for condensed matter physics, chemistry and material science, for structural biology and industrial applications, IRIDE will open completely new research possibilities and advance our knowledge in many branches of science and technology. IRIDE will contribute to open new avenues of discoveries and to address most important riddles: What does matter consist of? What is the structure of proteins that have a fundamental role in life processes? What can we learn from protein structure to improve the treatment of diseases and to design more efficient drugs? Abstract

Aspergillus unguis belongs to the Aspergillus section Nidulantes. This species is found in soils and organisms from marine environments, such as jellyfishes and sponges. The first chemical study reported in the literature dates from 1970, with depsidones nidulin (1), nornidulin (2), and unguinol (3) being the first isolated compounds. Fifty-two years since this first study, the isolation and characterization of ninety-seven (97) compounds have been reported. These compounds are from different classes, such as depsides, depsidones, phthalides, cyclopeptides, indanones, diarylethers, pyrones, benzoic acid derivatives, orcinol/orsenillate derivatives, and sesterpenoids. In terms of biological activities, the first studies on isolated compounds from A. unguis came only in the 1990s. Considering the tendency for antiparasitic and antibiotics to become ineffective against resistant microorganisms and larvae, A. unguis compounds have also been extensively investigated and some compounds are considered very promising. In addition to these larvicidal and antimicrobial activities, these compounds also show activity against cancer cell lines, animal growth promotion, antimalarial and antioxidant activities. Despite the diversity of these compounds and reported biological activities, A. unguis remains an interesting target for studies on metabolic induction to produce new compounds, the determination of new biological activities, medicinal chemistry, structural modification, biotechnological approaches, and molecular modeling, which have yet to be extensively explored.

Abstract

Introduction and Objectives: Viral infections have been described to increase the risk of decompensation in patients with cirrhosis. We aimed to determine the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on clinical outcome of hospitalized patients with cirrhosis and to compare the performance of different prognostic models for predicting mortality. Patients: We performed a prospective cohort study including 2211 hospitalized patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from April 15, 2020 through October 1, 2020 in 38 Hospitals from 11 Latin American countries. We registered clinical and laboratory parameters of patients with and without cirrhosis. All patients were followed until discharge or death. We evaluated the prognostic performance of different scoring systems to predict mortality in patients with cirrhosis using ROC curves. Results: Overall, 4.6%(CI 3.7-5.6) subjects had cirrhosis (n=96). Baseline Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) class was assessed: CTP-A (23%), CTP-B (45%) and CTP-C (32%); median MELD-Na score was 19 (IQR 14-25). Mortality was 47% in patients with cirrhosis compared to 16% in those without cirrhosis (P30. Abstract

Secondary acute myeloid leukemia (sAML) after myelodysplastic or myeloproliferative disorders is a high-risk category currently identified by clinical history or specific morphological and cytogenetic abnormalities. However, in the absence of these features, uncertainties remain to identify the secondary nature of some cases otherwise defined as de novo AML. To test whether a chromatin-spliceosome (CS) mutational signature might better inform the definition of the de novo AML group, we analyzed a prospective cohort of 413 newly diagnosed AML patients enrolled into a randomized clinical trial (NILG AML 02/06) and provided with accurate cytogenetic and molecular characterization. Among clinically defined de novo AML, 17.6% carried CS mutations (CS-AML) and showed clinical characteristics closer to sAML (older age, lower white blood cell counts and higher rate of multilineage dysplasia). Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted to determine optimal dietary histidine requirement of grow-out Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, based on muscle development, expression of muscle-growth-related genes, and blood parameters. Fish (n = 288, initial body weight of 64.17±0.53 g) were fed extruded diets with graded levels of histidine (4.23, 5.44, 7.17, 8.91, and 11.57 g kg−1), containing approximately 289 g kg−1 crude protein and 3565 kcal kg−1 digestible energy. The study followed a completely randomized design with five treatments and four replicates each, for 65 days. There was a quadratic effect of dietary histidine on final body weight, feed conversion, and net protein utilization, and the best values were optimized at 8.09, 7.88, and 7.33 g kg−1, respectively. Feed intake, hepatosomatic index, survival, body composition, and blood parameters of total protein, glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, hematocrit, and hemoglobin were not affected by dietary treatments. Predominance of hypertrophic growth and higher mRNA levels of myogenin and MyoD were observed in fish fed histidine from 5.44 to 11.57 g kg−1 compared with fish fed histidine at 4.23 g kg−1. The mRNA expression of myostatin was not affected by dietary treatments. The dietary requirement of histidine for grow-out Nile tilapia was determined at 8.09 g kg−1, considering growth performance, muscle development, and gene expression responses.

Abstract

The next generation of accelerator based scientific facilities, such as the megahertz repetition rate free electron laser and electron-ion collider, relies on photoelectron sources of high peak and high average brightness. Therefore, photocathodes with both low transverse momentum spread (TMS) and high quantum efficiency (QE) are required. The conventional positive correlation between QE and TMS leads to a tradeoff between peak and average brightness. In this study, a negative correlation between QE and TMS is experimentally observed for the first time on a semiconductor photocathode (Cs_{2}Te). Two models are proposed to explain such an anomalous correlation. One model considers the junction between the semiconductor cathode and the metal substrate in the case of slightly excessive cesium deposition, and the other model considers different Cs-Te composites. Our studies inspire a new way to break the conventional correlation between QE and TMS, and open a new perspective to advance the beam brightness frontiers.

Abstract

Influenza is a highly contagious, acute viral infection that affects the respiratory system, and causes global outbreak in humans. It is usually self-limited, may progress to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and eventually leads to acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF). The main objective was to describe a case report of careful management of NIV in SARS caused by influenza A H1N1 virus, using the HACOR score. The patient exhibited clinical, radiological and laboratory improvement after 4 days of NIV treatment. She was discharged from ICU after 7 days and from the hospital after 10 days. NIV in AHRF is feasible in well-selected patients. Special attention to ventilator settings should be taken particularly to the expired tidal volume, allowing less hospitalization time, orotracheal intubation complications, and therefore, reducing hospital costs. Under these conditions, the new HACOR score can be very useful to avoid unduly delay of intubation time and increased mortality.

RESUMO A prevalência do câncer entre idosos tem aumentado nas últimas décadas. O tratamento oncológico pode acarretar aumento dos níveis de estresse e depressão. Nesse cenário, a esperança tem sido definida como um dos recursos relevantes de enfrentamento. Este estudo teve por objetivo analisar a relação entre estresse, sintomas depressivos e esperança em idosos submetidos a tratamento quimioterápico. Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, descritivo e transversal com amostra não-probabilística de 123 idosos vinculados a um hospital geral público terciário do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Os resultados mostram que os idosos apresentavam elevados níveis de estresse percebido e de esperança; 71,5% não manifestavam sintomas depressivos. Níveis de estresse e esperança foram correlacionados negativamente, assim como sintomas depressivos e níveis de esperança, sugerindo que a esperança pode ter efeitos benéficos sobre o estresse e depressão.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the length-weight relationship and mathematical models to predict dressed and fillet weight and yield and fillet composition of wild traíra, Hoplias malabaricus (Bloch, 1794). A total of 80 marketable-sized fish from 292.28 to 2879.57 g and 32.06 to 61.19 cm were used. The length:weight ratio was estimated using the equation: W = a × L b, in which W is body weight (g) and L is length (cm). The models of dressed and fillet weight and yield and body were elaborated using first-order ( y ^ i = β 0 + β 1 x i ) or second-order ( y ^ i = β 0 + β 1 x i + β 1 x i 2 ) linear regression analyses. The value of slope b in the length:weight ratio was 3.3732 and intercept was 0.0029. The prediction equations obtained for dressed weight, fillet weight, dressed yield, fillet yield, fillet gross energy, moisture, crude protein, crude lipid, and ash were, respectively: y ^ = 0.3244 + 0.9373 W, y ^ = 0.7651 + 0.4181 W, y ^ = 939.8015 + 0.0019 W, y ^ = 420.55170 + 0.0064 W, y ^ = 997.9600 + 0.0630 W, y ^ = 810.6500 − 0.0085 W, y ^ = 184.080 − 0.0111 W, y ^ = 3.1131 + 0.0049 W, and y ^ = 10.6110 + 0.0009 W, in which W is the body weight of fish (g). We demonstrated the possibility of elaborating realistic expressions to describe degutted weight, fillet weight, and fillet composition. Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever as estratégias de atendimento psicológico utilizadas com pacientes estomizados e seus familiares em uma unidade de internação hospitalar de uma universidade pública do interior paulista no pré-operatório e na preparação para a alta hospitalar. Trata-se de um estudo exploratório-descritivo com abordagem qualitativa, que focaliza um programa de extensão que oferece cuidados, com enfoque interdisciplinar, para essa população. As observações extraídas das intervenções psicológicas foram registradas em diário de campo e os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de conteúdo e interpretados à luz de pressupostos teóricos da Psicologia da Saúde. Identificou-se nos relatos que a assistência psicológica contempla as seguintes estratégias: levantamento da história clínica, identificação das necessidades psicológicas do paciente no pré-cirúrgico, reuniões com a equipe para discussão dos casos e elaboração do plano de cuidados terapêuticos, orientação aos familiares, escuta psicológica junto ao leito, orientações ao paciente e avaliação de seu estado psicológico, tendo em vista o preparo para alta hospitalar. O atendimento psicológico tem possibilitado o acolhimento dos pacientes, tendo como foco as necessidades identificadas durante o período de internação hospitalar decorrentes da intervenção cirúrgica e da estomização. O suporte psicológico tem contribuído para fortalecer a autonomia e minimizar o sofrimento associado à cirurgia e suas consequências, frente às limitações impostas pelo adoecimento crônico intestinal, além de possibilitar o atendimento articulado com a equipe cirúrgica e de enfermagem, assegurando assistência continuada ao paciente com foco no desenvolvimento de competências de autocuidado.

Abstract

Recent studies have evidenced exogenous enzymes as nutritional tool to elaborate low-polluting aquafeeds. This study aimed to evaluate effects of enzyme complex (EC) on apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of energy and nutrients, including amino acids, as well nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) loss in pre-growout Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Diets without EC (Control) or with EC supplemented at 225 (EC225) or 450 mg/kg diet (EC450) and fed to Nile tilapia (n = 135, 150 ± 20 g) distributed in an entirely randomized design of three treatments and three replicates of 15 fish each. Fish fed diet EC450 showed higher digestibility of energy, protein, amino acids and mineral, and increased digestible energy (DE; +221.25 kcal/kg diet), digestible protein (DP; +10.54 g/kg diet) contents of diets, whereas reduced N (−23.82%) and P (−18.46%) loss relative to fish fed diet control. This study evidenced that EC at 450 mg/kg diet optimizes the ADC of multiple nutrients, including amino acids, and identified its potential to enhance the nutritive value of feeds and elaborate sustainable feeds for Nile tilapia. RESUMO Estudos recentes têm evidenciado enzimas exógenas como ferramenta nutricional para elaboração de dietas aquáticas pouco poluentes. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos de um complexo enzimático (CE) nos coeficientes de digestibilidade aparente (CDA) de energia e nutrientes, incluindo aminoácidos, bem como perda de nitrogênio (N) e fósforo (P) em tilápia-do-nilo, Oreochromis niloticus em crescimento. Dietas sem CE (Controle) ou com EC suplementado em 225 (CE225) ou 450 mg/kg dieta (CE450) foram fornecidas para tilápias do Nilo (n = 135, 150 ± 20 g) distribuídas em um desenho inteiramente aleatório de três tratamentos e três repetições de 15 peixes cada. Peixes alimentados com a dieta EC450 apresentaram maior digestibilidade da energia, proteína, aminoácidos e minerais, e aumento nos conteúdos de energia digestível (ED; +221,25 kcal/kg dieta) e proteína digestível (PD; +10,54 g/kg dieta) das dietas, enquanto houve redução na perda de N (−23,82%) e P (−18,46%) em relação aos peixes alimentados com a dieta de controle. Este estudo evidenciou que o CE a 450 mg/kg de dieta otimiza o CDA de múltiplos nutrientes, incluindo aminoácidos e identificou seu potencial para melhorar o valor nutritivo dos alimentos, assim como elaborar dietas sustentáveis para tilápias do Nilo.

Abstract

Colliroja, Astyanax fasciatus, is a new aquaculture species, and information on its dietary essential amino acid requirements is lacking. The whole body composition of 120 farmed fish (16.2 ± 8.8 g) was determined to estimate the dietary essential amino acid requirement based on the ideal protein concept ((each essential amino acid/lysine) x100), and the findings were correlated to the whole body essential amino acid content of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. The dietary essential amino acids, including cysteine and tyrosine, accounted for 5.46, 4.62, 1.16, 3.28, 5.63, 2.01, 2.59, 2.84, 4.66, 3.39, 0.65, and 3.51% of the total protein for lysine, arginine, histidine, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, methionine+tyrosine, phenylalanine, phenylalanine+tyrosine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine, respectively. There were positive linear and high correlations (r = 0.971) between the whole body amino acid profiles of colliroja and Nile tilapia. Thus, the whole body amino acid profile of colliroja might be used to estimate accurately the essential amino acid requirement.

49. Length-weight relationship and prediction equations of body composition for growing-finishing cage-farmed Nile tilapia

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to develop models for predicting live weight from the length-weight relationship and body composition of Nile tilapia. A total of 3,000 juvenile fish (initial weight = 28.6±4.16 g and standard length = 13.8±0.16 cm) were distributed into three circular cages (12 m3 each). The fish were hand-fed extruded diets containing 332 g kg-1 of crude protein and 3,230 kcal kg-1 of digestible energy, until apparent satiety, twice daily, for 100 days. Twelve fish were collected from each cage every 20 days for measurements of body weight and length, and proximate composition analysis; statistical analysis was conducted using linear regression. The value of the slope b and the intercept for the length-weight relationship were 3.0604 and 0.0203, respectively. The prediction equations obtained for body moisture (MO), crude protein (CP), crude lipid (CL), and ash against body weight (BW) in g/100 g of fish were as follows: MO = 70.0090 - 0.0071BW; CP = 13.7550 + 0.0037BW; CL = 9.2636 + 0.0057BW; and ash = 4.2392 - 0.0024BW. It is possible to develop equations to predict body weight and composition, which can be used to control the production of Nile tilapia and improve its commercial value.
