Prenatal ultrasonography allows for timely identification of fetal abnormalities that can have an effect on securing the neonatal airway at delivery. We illustrate the role of antenatal three-dimensional printing in cases with fetal airway obstruction.We present two cases that highlight the utility of a three-dimensional printing technique to aid in ex utero intrapartum treatment procedures during cesarean delivery.Three-dimensional printing plays a complementary role to standard imaging options in optimizing presurgical planning, prenatal parental counseling, personalized patient care, and education of the multidisciplinary team in cases of fetal congenital airway obstruction.

Epidemiological studies suggest that men exhibit a higher mortality rate to COVID-19 than women, yet the underlying biology is largely unknown. Here, we seek to delineate sex differences in the gene expression of viral entry proteins ACE2 and TMPRSS2, and host transcriptional responses to SARS-CoV-2 through large-scale analysis of genomic and clinical data. We first compiled 220,000 human gene expression profiles from three databases and completed the meta-information through machine learning and manual annotation. Large scale analysis of these profiles indicated that male samples show higher expression levels of ACE2 and TMPRSS2 than female samples, especially in the older group (>60 years) and in the kidney. Subsequent analysis of 6,031 COVID-19 patients at Mount Sinai Health System revealed that men have significantly higher creatinine levels, an indicator of impaired kidney function. Further analysis of 782 COVID-19 patient gene expression profiles taken from upper airway and blood suggested men and women present distinct expression changes. Computational deconvolution analysis of these profiles revealed male COVID-19 patients have enriched kidney-specific mesangial cells in blood compared to healthy patients. Together, this study suggests biological differences in the kidney between sexes may contribute to sex disparity in COVID-19.

The uterus is a homeostatic organ, unwavering in the setting of monthly endometrial turnover, placental invasion, and parturition. In response to ovarian steroid hormones, the endometrium autologously prepares for embryo implantation and in its absence will shed and regenerate. Dysfunctional endometrial repair and regeneration may present clinically with infertility and abnormal menses. Asherman’s syndrome is characterized by intrauterine adhesions and atrophic endometrium, which often impacts fertility. Clinical management of infertility associated with abnormal endometrium represents a significant challenge. Endometrial mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) occupy a perivascular niche and contain regenerative and immunomodulatory properties. Given these characteristics, mesenchymal stem cells of endometrial and non-endometrial origin (bone marrow, adipose, placental) have been investigated for therapeutic purposes. Local administration of human MSC in animal models of endometrial injury reduces collagen deposition, improves angiogenesis, decreases inflammation, and improves fertility. Small clinical studies of autologous MSC administration in infertile women with Asherman’s Syndrome suggested their potential to restore endometrial function as evidenced by increased endometrial thickness, decreased adhesions, and fertility. The objective of this review is to highlight translational and clinical studies investigating the use of MSC for endometrial dysfunction and infertility and to summarize the current state of the art in this promising area.

Finally, we observed selective estrogen receptor modulators, but not other hormone drugs (agonists/antagonists of estrogen, androgen, and progesterone), could reduce SARS-CoV-2 infection in vitro.

Purpose – This paper aims to broadly discuss the consequences of EU enlargement on the Polish banking sector and the issues arising from it.Design/methodology/approach – There are two broad objectives of the paper – first, to discuss the scope and evolution of banking and regulatory reforms since Poland's accession to the EU and second, to examine some of the specific legal and regulatory issues that have arisen from the implementation of third capital adequacy directive (CAD3) in the Polish banking sector.Findings – Implications of CAD3 implementation in Poland include: Poland's capability of co‐operating within the EU financial sphere; making the Polish financial sector internationally competitive; opportunity for growth for the Polish banking sector; and a major overhaul of capital adequacy laws and institutions.
