To explore if and how Parkinson's disease dance class participation and public performance contributes to perceptions of wellbeing.A qualitative design using audio-recorded one-on-one semi-structured interviews with five class participants and three teachers/volunteers from two metropolitan Dance for Wellbeing class locations. Data were inductively thematically analysed by three researchers.Five themes illustrated the experience of dance class and performance for people with Parkinson's Disease: 1) 'the enabling learning environment'; 2) 'physical benefits from class participation; 3) 'mental/psychological benefits from class participation'; 4) 'social benefits from class participation; 5) 'sense of self and life engagement from class participation'. Themes 4 and 5 in particular were considered to be 'magnified by public performance', providing an opportunity for solidarity within the group and a supportive avenue for "coming out" and living publicly with the PD diagnosis.Dance performance magnifies health and wellbeing experiences of people with Parkinson's disease when part of an enabling, inclusive and emotionally and physically safe learning dance class environment. Elements of holistic benefits, as well as the fun and playful nature of the experience may be important elements to consider for motivation, recruitment and retention in this population.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONRehabilitation professionals should consider the use of dance class as an art-based activity that has a holistic therapeutic benefit.Flexible and fun environments are constructive for dancers to sustain attendance and interest.Rehabilitation professionals can be cognisant of the impact of public dance performance as 'coming out' with Parkinson's Disease.

Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) is an essential technology to meet net-zero carbon emission targets. Due to CO2 injection, original reservoir properties are altered. Early warning of potential CO2 injection-induced reservoir instability depends on our correct interpretation of the geophysical remote sensing data, particularly seismic and electromagnetic datasets. Using joint elastic-electrical datasets is a proven effective approach to simultaneously characterize mineral skeleton properties and pore fluid distribution, and therefore a powerful reservoir monitoring tool for CCUS.To interpret large-scale elastic-electrical datasets, original rock properties and fundamental CO2-fluid-rock interactions are preliminarily investigated by combining available well-logging data, lab-controlled experiments using rock samples, and rock physics theories; the latter two are inevitably dependent on one another. Despite we can mimic changing reservoir conditions in the lab and generate datasets that provide essential information to understand specific processes at the micro- and meso-scales (and serve as inputs for large-scale reservoir simulations), every experiment carries limitations inherent to the particular lab capabilities, together with the obvious time- and space-scale related uncertainties (i.e., core-scale experiments only partially describe the events occurring in the field). Then, we need theoretical rock physics to make experimental assumptions, and reciprocally we use the experimental data to validate models.Physical and petrographic properties of reservoir rocks condition the degree of heterogeneity and anisotropy of the CO2 storage unit that, in turn, influence the total storage capacity and fluid migration. Original clay content, grain size distribution, mineralogy, porosity and permeability are among the most influencing parameters, particularly for low reactive siliciclastic formations (i.e., desired CO2 storage reservoirs). But these properties randomly change to some extent within any reservoir formation.Here, we investigate how reservoir heterogeneity influences our geophysical interpretation of the potential CO2 storage site Aurora, offshore Norway. Recent studies suggest high clay content and porosity variability within the Johansen Formation sandstone, Aurora’s primary reservoir. Due to lack of Johansen Fm. samples, we selected three sandstone samples from the Central Graben, Offsore UK (Forties Formation), formed in a similar depositional environment, with similar mineralogical composition, and porosity (20 to 28%), clay content (10 to 26%) and permeability (1 to 8 mD) ranges. The elastic (from P- and S-wave velocities) and transport (from permeability and resistivity) properties of the tested samples were used to assess the influence of their intrinsic properties on the pore fluid distribution during CO2 injection and the permanent CO2-induced changes in the Aurora reservoir complex. We apply well-known rock physics theories, including effective stress law, Archie’s relationship, and the Biot-Stoll and White and Dutta-Ode models, for both to impose the most similar reservoir conditions according to our lab limitations and to assess the experimental results. We observe (i) elastic and transport properties variations (up to 15% and 30%, respectively) between samples, mainly related to porosity differences, and (ii) more significant permanent alterations post-CO2 injection in those with higher porosity and clay content. Our results show the importance of accounting for heterogeneity-related changes in sandstone reservoirs during/after subsurface CO2 storage activities for enhanced geophysical interpretation.

INTRODUCTION: Māori perspectives should be genuinely represented and integrated into social work education to ensure Māori and non-Māori social work students alike are prepared for working effectively in Aotearoa New Zealand. In field education, Māori students may have particular needs and expectations that should be considered by academic staff and placement host organisations. Consequently, the placement experience for Māori students should reflect these needs and expectations.METHOD: As part of a wider research project which aimed to advance the quality of social work placements for Māori and Pasifika students, a hui was undertaken with a roopu (Māori branch) of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Work (ANZASW) in late 2014. This article focuses on their views of what constitutes a quality placement for Māori social work students. The project explored two key areas: what does a quality placement look like for Māori social work students and what can tertiary institutions do to better support Māori students to have a quality placement?FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS: Participants emphasised the usefulness of placement preparedness, clear expectations and open communication prior to, and during, placement. The placement should also be culturally safe and adequately challenge the student. Tertiary providers should support the student’s placement by being in regular face-to-face contact; preparing the student for the placement environment; supporting external cultural supervision; and by critically reviewing their curriculum.

INTRODUCTION: The New Zealand government’s health surveys consistently identify that alcohol and other drug (AOD) addiction is an issue for New Zealanders. However, there is a lack of qualitative research on the lived experiences of health and social service professionals who have previous or current experience of AOD addiction in Aotearoa New Zealand. METHODS: A constructivist approach was utilised, semi-structured interviews were conducted, and subsequent thematic analysis identified themes highlighting what contributed, and created barriers to, participants’ successful AOD addiction recovery. FINDINGS: Identification of nine themes illustrated that the barriers to AOD addiction recovery in Aotearoa New Zealand experienced by the research participants were systemic and preventable. CONCLUSIONS: The recommendation of this research is that the lived experience of people who have experienced AOD addiction in Aotearoa New Zealand is better utilised in order to mitigate, and enhance, identified barriers, and contributors to, successful AOD addiction recovery.

Most people who suffer an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury search for information online.Summarise the proportion of webpages on ACL rupture management that present evidence-based information.Content analysis.We examined webpage information on ACL ruptures identified through (1) Google searches using terms synonymous with 'anterior cruciate ligament rupture' and searching 'knee surgeon' linked to each Australian capital city, and (2) websites of professional associations. The primary outcome was the proportion of webpages that suggest people can return to at least some form of sport with non-surgical management. Secondary outcomes included webpage information on return to sport with ACL reconstruction (ACLR) and non-surgical management, benefits, harms, and risk of osteoarthritis related to these options, and activity modification.Out of 115 webpages analysed, 48% suggested people can return to at least some form of sport with non-surgical management. Almost half of webpages suggested most people will return to some form of sport following ACLR (41%) and mentioned benefits of ACLR (43%). Fewer webpages mentioned benefits of non-surgical management (14%), approximately two in three people return to pre-injury level of sport following ACLR (4%), risk of re-injury following ACLR (23%), most people return to sport within 9 months of ACLR (27%), activity modification as a management approach (20%), and ACLR will reduce the risk of osteoarthritis (23%).Most online information on ACL rupture management isn't aligned with the best available evidence. Inaccurate information could mislead patients' treatment choices and create unrealistic expectations for return to sport.

Governments, corporations, and other organizations are expanding further into remote locations, such as polar regions, space, and other relatively inaccessible areas with minimal development. However, with this increased interest in remote areas, there is a shortage of scholarly work to draw upon for operating in these regions. Therefore, this presents an opportunity to fill an academic gap, and the article asks, ‘How can sustainability be a source of competitive advantage for logistics in remote locations?’ To explore this question and to serve as a resource for future researchers, the article defines key terms, utilizes an interdisciplinary framework by integrating the academic disciplines of business and sustainability, and supplies a detailed literature review. From this groundwork, the article follows a qualitative methodology whereby three hypotheses emerge. The research results offer that sustainability can be a source of competitive advantage for logistics in remote locations by: sustainable logistics innovation; reducing, reusing, and recycling; and optimizing supply networks. Finally, the article closes with a discussion and summary, by recognizing research limitations and by contributing recommendations for future dialogue and research.

The notion of social work teaching in the veterinary science programme may seem novel for our profession. However, the philosophy underlying the context of animal and human welfare in One Health is the result of the collaborative effort of multiple disciplines and professions to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment. One Health emphasises some of the key domains such as creating an enabling environment and advocating change and communication amongst healthcare professionals (Courtenay et al., 2014). Even when interprofessional education (IPE) and One Health competencies are evident in courses, Courtenay and colleagues (2014) noted that they are mostly at clinical level. In recent years, there has been a call for more collaboration between human and veterinary medicine to learn and practise One Health competencies, and “links” between the abuse of children, vulnerable adults and animals have been identified as a key area for exploration (Arkow, 2015a; Jordan & Lem, 2014). In 2015, the second author and the Head of School of Social Work at Massey University had the opportunity to skype with Dr Elizabeth Strand, the Founding Director of Veterinary Social Work (VSW) (Strand et al., 2012), from University of Tennessee-Knoxville to discuss setting up VSW and also to seek advice on challenges and strategies on engaging and collaborating with the veterinary school. Dr Strand shared her experiences and encouraged us to contact the Head of the Veterinary School at our university to start a conversation. Our Head of School approached the then Head of School of Veterinary Science and within days a meeting was organised. We went into the meeting expecting a first level of exploration with the Head of School to see if he was interested but were surprised when we were joined by another senior lecturer (SG) who had been re-designing the course content of professional practice for veterinarian students. He was very keen of our idea on working with him to develop a module on teaching his students about the link between animal abuse and family violence. It seemed the Veterinary School hadbeen identifying gaps in their curriculum for some time in relation to health and wellbeing, communication skills and conflict resolution, but they had only accessed support from student health services at the university. He also acknowledged the increasing attention in research literature about the link between human and animal violence as a pivotal area that could be integrated within the Veterinary Science Professional Practice curriculum, but did not realise that social work could play a role in supporting their curriculum and knowledge building. The meeting was a success, and within a year, we started our contribution by running the first two-hour workshop with first-year veterinary students discussing animal abuse and family violence, a workshop which then became a regular feature of the veterinary programme between 2016 and 2018. The purpose of this paper is to provide a description of what was included in the educational contexts, reflections from veterinary students’ engagement and future needs to connect between human service and animal service professionals to address the link.

Many have perceived the need for agility in future-proofing workforces as globally disruptive technologies reshape work (Saran, 2018). Eason, et al, comprehensively addressed the teaching and learning components of these reshaped strategic imperatives (2019). Now with Covid-19 realities, the necessity to show ‘how’ to manage, lead and do strategy in order to stress that critical concept of ‘innovative adaptation’ has hit hard. Saran’s warning has collided with 2020 shocks to demand the current research question: ‘How can academicians and practitioners assure workforces can have sustainable strategic success given the new deeply embedded, yet ever changing competitive, ecological and global imperatives?’

A formative evaluation of social work services at Whakatipuria Teen Parent Unit (TPU) was undertaken to improve the delivery of social work support services in order to maintain and enhance the achievement of student outcomes. The views of participants were sought regarding the nature and purpose of social work support in the TPU context, and how this support could be improved. The findings presented are consistent with research that demonstrates that teen mothers respond positively to wrap-around support at their high school. Two substantive conclusions are drawn from the research. First, that a relatively high degree of consensus exists among key stakeholders regarding: (a) the purpose of social work services (i.e. that they contribute to educational achievement, social skills development and outcomes for children); and (b) the range of tasks associated with this service (i.e. advocacy, counselling and family intervention/support). Second, there was less clarity regarding the social work practice framework that informs the delivery of social work services. While there was evidence of core social work practice approaches/models (e.g. a holistic approach and strengths-based practice), a strong, shared understanding did not emerge from the responses of participants. It is suggested that a review of the foundational social work practice framework be completed with a focus on models of assessment and intervention, and joint planning protocols between the social worker and teachers.

Rabbits have served as a valuable animal model for the pathogenesis of various human diseases, including those related to agents that gain entry through the gastrointestinal tract such as human T cell leukemia virus type 1. However, limited information is available regarding the spatial distribution and phenotypic characterization of major rabbit leukocyte populations in mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues. Herein, we describe the spatial distribution and phenotypic characterization of leukocytes from gut-associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) from 12-week-old New Zealand White rabbits. Our data indicate that rabbits have similar distribution of leukocyte subsets as humans, both in the GALT inductive and effector sites and in mesenteric lymph nodes, spleen, and peripheral blood. GALT inductive sites, including appendix, cecal tonsil, Peyer's patches, and ileocecal plaque, had variable B cell/T cell ratios (ranging from 4.0 to 0.8) with a predominance of CD4 T cells within the T cell population in all four tissues. Intraepithelial and lamina propria compartments contained mostly T cells, with CD4 T cells predominating in the lamina propria compartment and CD8 T cells predominating in the intraepithelial compartment. Mesenteric lymph node, peripheral blood, and splenic samples contained approximately equal percentages of B cells and T cells, with a high proportion of CD4 T cells compared with CD8 T cells. Collectively, our data indicate that New Zealand White rabbits are comparable with humans throughout their GALT and support future studies that use the rabbit model to study human gut-associated disease or infectious agents that gain entry by the oral route.

Since the inception of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), the use of animals in research and education has been a central element of the programs of member institutions. As veterinary education and research programs have evolved over the past 50 years, so too have societal views and regulatory policies. AAVMC member institutions have continually responded to these events by exchanging best practices in training their students in the framework of comparative medicine and the needs of society. Animals provide students and faculty with the tools to learn the fundamental knowledge and skills of veterinary medicine and scientific discovery. The study of animal models has contributed extensively to medicine, veterinary medicine, and basic sciences as these disciplines seek to understand life processes. Changing societal views over the past 50 years have provided active examination and continued refinement of the use of animals in veterinary medical education and research. The future use of animals to educate and train veterinarians will likely continue to evolve as technological advances are applied to experimental design and educational systems. Natural animal models of both human and animal health will undoubtedly continue to serve a significant role in the education of veterinarians and in the development of new treatments of animal and human disease. As it looks to the future, the AAVMC as an organization will need to continue to support and promote best practices in the humane care and appropriate use of animals in both education and research.

The purpose of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the prevalence and associated factors of elder abuse in a representative sample of older people in Aotearoa New Zealand. Analysis was conducted on responses from the second wave of the New Zealand Longitu- dinal Study of Ageing (NZLSA) omnibus survey of 3,923 adults aged 50-87 years. Using the elder mistreatment screening questions, the sample was split between those who identified of having experienced elder abuse (n = 529) and those who did not (n = 2417) from a large population-based study to compare on 19 variables (i.e. age, gender, marital status, living arrangement, education levels, ethnicity, personal income, total number of health conditions, physical health, mental health, ability to get around, economic wellbeing, loneliness, social and emotional loneliness, depression, happiness, satisfaction with life and quality of life). Significant differences were found on 16 of the variables assessed. Results suggested that those who have experienced elder abuse had a higher level of loneliness and poor economic wellbeing. They were more likely to experience depression, have poorer mental health and be less happy. The experience of abuse had significant impact on their satisfaction with life and overall quality of life. A better understanding of these risk factors associated with elder abuse in aging population will assist with both prevention and intervention.

The human T-cell leukemia retrovirus type-1 (HTLV-1) p30(II) protein is a multifunctional latency-maintenance factor that negatively regulates viral gene expression and deregulates host signaling pathways involved in aberrant T-cell growth and proliferation. We have previously demonstrated that p30(II) interacts with the c-MYC oncoprotein and enhances c-MYC-dependent transcriptional and oncogenic functions. However, the molecular and biochemical events that mediate the cooperation between p30(II) and c-MYC remain to be completely understood. Herein we demonstrate that p30(II) induces lysine-acetylation of the c-MYC oncoprotein. Acetylation-defective c-MYC Lys→Arg substitution mutants are impaired for oncogenic transformation with p30(II) in c-myc(-/-) HO15.19 fibroblasts. Using dual-chromatin-immunoprecipitations (dual-ChIPs), we further demonstrate that p30(II) is present in c-MYC-containing nucleoprotein complexes in HTLV-1-transformed HuT-102 T-lymphocytes. Moreover, p30(II) inhibits apoptosis in proliferating cells expressing c-MYC under conditions of genotoxic stress. These findings suggest that c-MYC-acetylation is required for the cooperation between p30(II)/c-MYC which could promote proviral replication and contribute to HTLV-1-induced carcinogenesis.

Parenting programmes purport to improve the parenting capacity of both mothers and fathers; however it is predominantly mothers who participate. Father participation is important because fathers have a positive impact on both child development and behaviour, and out- comes for children are enhanced when both parents participate in parenting programmes. This article draws upon a study (via an online questionnaire) that explored the views of social workers about the issues affecting fathers’ participation in parenting programmes. The results showed that participants considered the qualities of the programme leader, the programme content and the philosophy of the service delivery organisation to be the most important issues impacting on father participation. From the perspective of change, qualities of the programme leader and organisational philosophy were considered the most feasible to address. The sample comprised three times more female than male participants and there was an evident difference in viewpoint according to gender on issues including the gender of the programme leader and the gender make-up of the group.
