Celem artykułu jest prezentacja zachowań wyborczych mieszkańców gminy Uniejów w wyborach parlamentarnych z 2023 r. w ujęciu lokalnym. Przedstawiono w nim podstawowe zachowania wyborcze (frekwencję, sposób głosowania i jego wyniki) w każdej obwodowej komisji wyborczej zlokalizowanej na obszarze gminy Uniejów. Na analizowanym obszarze w przeważającej większości głosowano osobiście w lokalach wyborczych (głosowanie korespondencyjne lub przez pełnomocnika było rzadziej wykorzystywane niż na całym terytorium Polski). Zachowania wyborcze mieszkańców gminy wykazują pewne zróżnicowanie przestrzenne pomiędzy miastem a obszarem wiejskim. Większą frekwencję oraz nieco mniejsze poparcie partii prawicowych obserwuje się w mieście. Jednocześnie ukazują trwałość przestrzennego zróżnicowania elektoratów.

Abstract Mixed phenotype acute leukaemia (MPAL) is associated with worse overall survival, compared with other acute leukaemias in adults. Lack of clear treatment guidelines makes the therapy challenging. ALL-like induction and consolidation treatment followed by allo-HSCT is the preferred first-line treatment. We present a case of a 36-year-old woman diagnosed with MPAL (EGIL Myelo/B) with KMT2A rearrangement, treated with the PALG-ALL-7 (including PEG-asparaginase) protocol. On day 25 after the induction therapy initiation, numbness of limbs and dizziness were observed. Therefore, the imaging studies (CT and MRI) were performed and a diagnosis of thrombosis of superior sagittal sinus of the brain was established. Routinely performed blood coagulation tests showed prolonged APTT and PT, decreased antithrombin III activity and decreased free protein S concentration. LMWH treatment and substitutional therapy with antithrombin III were started, which resulted in a significant reduction in the thrombosis associated symptoms and improvement of the neurological status after 3 days. After induction and consolidation therapy, the patient obtained complete haematological remission and negative measurable residual disease. Six months after the diagnosis, allo-HSCT was successfully performed. During the 4 months follow-up, the patient remained MRD negative and thrombotic symptoms free. To the best of our knowledge, our communication has been the first report of such complication in an MPAL patient treated with PEG-asparaginase containing protocol in adults. We recommend increased vigilance in patients manifesting any mild neurological symptoms and early decision about the MRI study performance.

Cutaneous larva migrans (CLM) is a parasite dermatosis caused by skin penetration and the migration of larvae of the nematodes. The etiological factors are Ancylostoma braziliense and Ancylostoma caninum. The infection most often appears in tropical and subtropical countries. The main symptoms are creeping eruption, which is slightly elevated, migrating, erythematous and serpiginous track and severe pruritus. The areas that are the most occupied are the feet and buttocks. The diagnosis is based on characteristic clinical presentation and a history of tropical travel. The most frequently implemented treatment is ivermectin and albendazole. Ivermectin is used orally, 200 mcg/kg once daily for 1–2 days. Oral albendazole 400 mg once daily orally for 3 days is also a satisfying therapeutic option. There have also been reports of topical treatment with 10% thiabendazole cream or 1% ivermectin cream. Antihistamines can be helpful for the management of pruritus. Prevention of CLM includes wearing footwear at the beach and plays an extremely important role.

In the paper we discuss and compare two commonly used methods of finding the shortest paths in networks, namely Dijkstra's and A∗ algorithms. We compare their effectiveness in terms of traversing road network in circumstances that require swift decision making in the event of dynamically changing road conditions on the basis of studies conducted for evacuation plans. To build a proper model of such a network, a method of appropriate edge-weighting is introduced, based on empirical data collected by other researchers. Then, we use the basics of the theory of quasimetric spaces to introduce a heuristic to such graphs, which is easy to calculate metric. The heuristic we obtain is both admissible and consistent, which allows us to use it efficiently in A∗ search algorithms. The developed application can be used in studies into evacuation from hazardous areas. In this case, optimum calculative efficiency is achievable with a simultaneous reduction of calculation time (when compared to Dijkstra's algorithm). Our application can be applied during the first stage, i.e., prior to the occurrence of a disaster, since this is an appropriate time for preparation by planning, drilling, early warning, and designating the rescue services that are to participate in the following stages.

Rocznicowy – 10. tom „Biuletynu Uniejowskiego” – jest pretekstem do refleksji nad miejscem tego czasopisma na rynku wydawnictw naukowych. Artykuł stanowi swoisty raport z całego okresu działalności czasopisma. Za główny cel pracy obrano wskazanie powiązań pomiędzy badaniami publikowanymi na łamach „Biuletynu Uniejowskiego” a poszczególnymi dziedzinami i dyscyplinami naukowymi. Zrealizowano go poprzez analizę danych pochodzących z bazy Google Scholar. Mimo że niemal połowa artykułów publikowanych w „Biuletynie Uniejowskim” to teksty mieszczące się w dziedzinie nauk społecznych, to czasopismo nadal utrzymuje charakter interdyscyplinarny. Potwierdzeniem tego jest fakt, że artykuły z „Biuletynu Uniejowskiego” są cytowane w czasopismach klasyfikowanych do wielu dziedzin nauki: społecznych, ścisłych i przyrodniczych, inżynieryjno-technicznych, humanistycznych i rolniczych.

The main purpose of the paper is to recognise the impact of statutory Sunday trading restrictions on consumer behaviours (shopping time) and mobility (activeness, motivation, modal division) of residents in Łódź, one of the largest Polish cities. An additional aim is to determine the independence of the indicated elements for selected features of the surveyed residents and their households, for which purpose a two-stage questionnaire survey was conducted among the residents/dwellers of Łódź. The first stage was performed during a week following a non-trading Sunday, and the respondents were asked to refer specifically to the previous Sunday. The second phase was carried out during a week immediately following a trading Sunday, with the questions focused on that particular Sunday. The returned results showed that the main factor determining the time when people do their shopping to make up for a non-trading Sunday is their professional Sunday activity. The answers also revealed that the residents of Łódź chose an inactive and rather a “couch-potato” lifestyle on the analysed Sundays, whether trading or non-trading.

Recently, numerous countries have been facing the issue of population ageing, which poses a formidable challenge for many sectors, including transportation. Alas, there are no detailed or insightful studies that involve the analysis of the elderly, which is why the authors of this paper decided to research the issue to determine which features of mobility are common among senior citizens (aged 60+). In our study, we focused on Bałuty, a district located in Łódź. The applied research tool was an interview questionnaire which consisted of eight questions. Since transportation is a fundamental human need, maintenance of the mobility of the elderly at an acceptable level is crucial as it directly impacts the quality of their life. What is more, a change of motivation and mode of transport is recommended for this age group.

The purpose of this article is to present the authors' own software for predicting changes in the density and directions of traffic flows and to compare overall results of research on transport accessibility with the results returned in the study of transport accessibility conducted with the software (isochronic accessibility). Developed for research purposes, the authors' application is based on Dijkstra's algorithm, which is classified as one of the greedy ones and does not always return optimum results, even though it is considered to be generally accurate. In the course of the research, it was stated that the implementation of Dijkstra's algorithm in the RoadLoad tool is suitable for studying and prognosing phenomena, under the assumption that there aredetailed data on the point of departure and destination for each trip. The tool enables us to research a spatial (cumulated values of network load) as well as time-spatial (network load at virtually any time) dimension of the phenomenon. It cannot be applied, however, withouttheknowledge of the transport behavior characteristics ofthe users of the road system.

The results of the study on the characteristics of the viable (culturable) and total bacterial particles in the ambient air in Gliwice, Poland, are presented. The concentration of viable bacteria in the air ranged from 57 CFU m−3 (Colony Forming Units per cubic meter) during winter to 305 CFU m−3 in spring, while the concentration of all bacteria (live and dead) in the air, measured in selected days, ranged from 298 cells m−3 in winter to over 25 thousand per m3 in autumn. A field study was also carried out to find out the level of the sterilization rate (k) for airborne bacteria. The obtained value of k for viable bacteria exposed to UV solar radiation in Gliwice was approximately 10 cm2 W−1s−1. The patterns of the size distributions of viable bacteria found in three seasons, spring, summer, and autumn, were similar, showing a peak in the range of 3.3–4.7 µm. In the winter season, the main peak was shifted into the smaller particles with an aerodynamic diameter ranging from 2.1 to 4.7 µm. The dominant group of culturable bacteria within the studied period was Gram-positive rods-forming endospores (34–55%), while the least frequent were Gram-negative rods (2%). This research can be used to assess the health effects of exposure to bacterial aerosols in people living in this area.

The article presents a forecast of changes in the level of transport accessibility and mobility in Poland as a result of the anticipated development of the network of expressways and motorways. The progress which has been made in this respect in the last few years in Poland is unquestionable and unrepeatable by any other European country. Will the subsequent investment plans concerning the road network of the highest parameters offer equally impressive results as far as the increase in Poland’s territorial cohesion is concerned? The aim of this article is to establish in what way the planned infrastructure investments will affect the changes in transport accessibility and mobility as well as whether they will result in the changes in traffic flows directed to Warsaw and other regional centres. To achieve this, an analysis of the present and target state of the road network in Poland was conducted from the perspective of changes in accessibility, anticipated traffic flows, and mobility. For this purpose the authors used the analyses of isochrone and accumulative accessibility in ArcMap environment and research into traffic flows and their changes in the Visum software. The conducted research showed that the planned transport network might result in induced traffic through a increase in accessibility (the central variant) with the assumption that an increase in mobility would be vented in the real face of the phenomenon of motility. Opening new road sections of expressways will contribute to substantial changes in the directions of traffic flows only to a slight extent, and the only transformations concern regions with already developed fast car transport infrastructure whose functionality is limited due to the lack of its cohesion in the subsequent course or lack of a developed network of expressways and motorways.

Artykuł przedstawia przegląd popularności Uniejowa na tle małych miast województwa łódzkiego oraz uzdrowisk o podobnym kierunku leczniczym. Zjawisko to mierzono liczbą wyszukiwań w wyszukiwarce internetowej Google. Poza wspomnianym wyżej przeglądem poddano analizie sezonowe zmiany odnajdywania Uniejowa w Internecie i zestawiono je z działaniami promocyjnymi prowadzonymi przez Urząd Miasta. Wyniki wskazują, iż Uniejów jest najbardziej znaną jednostką w gronie małych miast regionu łódzkiego oraz znaczącą, jak na długość funkcjonowania uzdrowiska i jego potencjał, miejscowością uzdrowiskową.

Cryptands with sucrose scaffold, an unknown class of such derivatives, were prepared from the readily available 2,3,3’,4,4’-penta-O-benzylsucrose and 1’,2,3,3’,4,4’-hexa-O-benzylsucrose.

SARS-CoV-2 genome annotation revealed the presence of 10 open reading frames (ORFs), of which the last one (ORF10) is positioned downstream of the N gene. It is a hypothetical gene, which was speculated to encode a 38 aa protein. This hypothetical protein does not share sequence similarity with any other known protein and cannot be associated with a function. While the role of this ORF10 was proposed, there is growing evidence showing that the ORF10 is not a coding region. Here, we identified SARS-CoV-2 variants in which the ORF10 gene was prematurely terminated. The disease was not attenuated, and the transmissibility between humans was maintained. Also, in vitro, the strains replicated similarly to the related viruses with the intact ORF10. Altogether, based on clinical observation and laboratory analyses, it appears that the ORF10 protein is not essential in humans. This observation further proves that the ORF10 should not be treated as the protein-coding gene, and the genome annotations should be amended.

Objectives Industrially contaminated sites (ICS) represent an important public health issue in European countries. The Silesian Voivodeship, the region located in the southern part of Poland, the historical center of industry, has many sites that meet ICS criteria. Most of them are landfills containing lead, cadmium and zinc. Material and Methods The aim of the study has been to evaluate determinants of lead and cadmium blood levels for preschool children living in the vicinity of selected environmental hazards in Piekary Śląskie, the city located in the region of Silesia. Data about exposure was obtained from the parental questionnaire and was verified by levels of biomarkers in children’s blood. Finally, 678 preschool children were studied. Results Obtained results have confirmed that the statistically significant higher level of lead in blood has been revealed in the case of younger children whose fathers have a higher level of education and whose mothers smoke cigarettes at home, as well as for those living in the vicinity of any environmental hazard. In the case of cadmium, a higher level of the biomarker has been reported for older children who rather do not live close to any environmental hazard. We have recognized 30% of children with blood lead level (PbB) exceeding 2 μg/dl and 0.8% of children with blood cadmium level (CdB) exceeding the reference value (0.5 μg/l). Conclusions Own observation has confirmed that preschool children living in Piekary Śląskie are still exposed to heavy metals existing in environment. The source of the higher level in blood is not only the hazardous vicinity in the place of residence but also well-known factors associated with the age of children, parental life style and educational background. The parental questionnaire could be useful to identify potential determinants of exposure to lead and cadmium, however exposure must be verified by measurement of a proper biomarker. The problem of statutory restrictions of the freedom to conduct business activities is a subject addressed by many researchers. On the other hand, there is little research into the spatial aspect of this phenomenon and its impact on the quality of life of the inhabitants of urban centres in terms of their exclusion from one of the key motivations for travelling, namely shopping trips. The main purpose of the article is to determine the impact of the introduction of a statutory restriction on Sunday trading on sustainable urban development in terms of identifying areas excluded from free access to such services within a large urban settlement in Poland. Our studies on accessibility by car utilised data from ITS systems, the assumptions of the probabilistic Huff Model, and methods to determine market catchment areas. The data used in the study were based on the results of a questionnaire survey. The research procedure was conducted for eight scenarios that covered two periods (March 2019 and November 2020) on trading and non-trading Sundays. The conducted research shows that changes in the temporal accessibility of grocery shops in Łódź within the analysed periods are noticeable for trading and non-trading Sundays. In both cases, accessibility by private car is decidedly worse on non-trading Sundays. Transport exclusion from accessibility to grocery shops applies, in particular, to residents of peripheral areas of the city and is further compounded by the statutory Sunday retail restrictions implemented nationwide.

The main purpose of the paper is to determine changes in transport behaviour of users of the public bike-share (PBS) scheme in a large Polish city, Łódź. By tracking GPS signals for individual trips taken by PBS users, it was possible to analyse their changeability (time and spatial) for periods before the implementation of statutory Sunday retail restrictions (2017) and after their partial introduction (2018). The study also took into account weather conditions, namely maximum and minimum daily temperatures and daily totals of precipitation recorded by a weather station in Łodź. In order to determine the correlations between certain weather conditions and PBS trips, the authors applied regression analysis. The results of the study showed that weekend cycling is less susceptible to the impact of weather than cycling on weekdays. At the same time, a comparative analysis of trading and non-trading Sundays proved that, during Sundays with retail restrictions, public bikes were used for longer, farther, and slower trips. These observations were confirmed by analyses of maps of traffic structure.

The development of glaucoma may be connected with a long-term exposure to oxidative stress caused by free radical (ROS). The main aim of this work was an analysis of associations of Cat-262C/T, GPX1 Pro198Leu and SOD1 35 A/C gene polymorphisms of antioxidant enzymes with a risk of open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in a Polish population. DNA samples collected from 209 patients with POAG and 191 healthy controls were used in this study. Polymorphisms were determined by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). We found that the +35A/C polymorphisms of SOD1 were not associated with a risk of POAG. We found that C/T genotype (1-GPX1Pro198Leu, 2-Cat C262T) is associated with increased risk of open angle glaucoma (1-OR = 2.24; 95% CI: 1.46-3.44; p = 0.0001, 2-OR = 2.16; 95% CI: 1.35-3.34; p = 0.001). We also found that T/T genotype is a risk factor for progression of POAG (1-OR = 3.86; 95% Cl: 1.36-10.96; p = 0.007, 2-OR = 6.37; 95% CI: 1.39-29.28; p = 0.007). Finally our data suggest that gene polymorphisms of GPX1 Pro198Leu and CAT C262T may have a protective role in the development of primary open-angle glaucoma in a Polish population.

The main purpose of this article was to determine the impact on the equilibrium of the local transport system from privileging EVs by permitting them to use bus lanes. The study used two sets of data: information on infrastructure and traffic management; and information on the recorded road network loads and traffic volumes generated by a given shopping centre—the E. Leclerc shopping centre (an important traffic generator within the city of Łódź, Poland). These sets were then used to develop a microsimulation traffic model for the shopping centre and the associated effects on the localised transport system. The model was constructed by means of the PTV Vissim software tool. An initial simulation was conducted that formed a basis for subsequent scenarios (in total, 17 simulations were performed). On the basis of the conducted analyses, it was established that—for the researched part of the transport system—privileging the still rather uncommon battery electric vehicles (BEVs) engendered a marginal deterioration of traffic conditions. At the same time, allowing BEVs to use bus lanes within the chosen research area had no negative impact on bus journey times.

Artykuł prezentuje zachowania wyborcze mieszkańców gminy Szadek w wyborach z 2015 r. na prezydenta RP oraz do sejmu i senatu. W ramach zachowań wyborczych przedstawiono frekwencję wyborczą oraz wyniki głosowań w rozbiciu w każdym z obwodów wyborczych oraz w ujęciu syntetycznym miasto–wieś. W artykule została podjęta próba wyjaśnienia zróżnicowania frekwencji wyborczej oraz przesunięć wewnątrz elektoratów.

W ramach zachowań wyborczych przedstawiono frekwencję wyborczą oraz wyniki głosowań w rozbiciu na każdy z obwodów wyborczych oraz w ujęciu syntetycznym miasto–wieś. W opracowaniu dokonano próby wyjaśnienia zróżnicowania frekwencji wyborczej oraz przesunięć wewnątrz elektoratów.

Objectives: Health Impact Assessments (HIA) approach can be executed by calculating the attributable burden of disease. The most common indicators used in the HIA methodology are: premature mortality, morbidity, life-expectancy, and Disability Adjusted Life-Year (DALY). The term Disability Adjusted Life-Years (DALYs) indicates months/years lost due to a premature death or disability. The aim of the study was to present health benefits, expressed in terms of lower total mortality and cardio-respiratory hospitalization rates, due to a decreased particulate matter (PM) concentration in ambient air, in Silesian voivodeship. Material and Methods: In this paper, results obtained from the APHEKOM (Improving Knowledge and Communication for Decision Making on Air Pollution and Health in Europe) project, which provided specialized HIA tools, useful for assessing health benefits resulting from reducing air pollution, were used. Both short-term and long-term exposure HIA tools were applied with regard to the appropriate data for Silesian voivodeship. Exposure data were obtained from the Regional Environmental Inspectorate in Katowice, while population and health data were obtained from the Central Statistical Office of Poland or from the Silesian Voivodeship Office, respectively. Results: Health benefits that are related to an improvement of ambient air quality in Silesia region are similar to previous estimates obtained for Kraków city. The reduction of short-term exposure to PM10 by 5 μg/m3 results in a lower number of yearly non-external deaths (2.6–2.75 per 100 000 inhabitants). This effect was also shown to be similar in the city of Zabrze, as well as in the whole Silesia region. Conclusions: The Health Impact Assessments tools developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) can help public health experts make decisions in order to improve the health of populations living in particular regions of Europe.

We directly compare the mean-field and the many-body approaches, in a one-dimensional Bose system in a harmonic trap. Both contact and dipolar interactions are considered. We obtain eigenstates of the many-body system by exact diagonalization with a truncated basis. We propose a multiatom version of the phase-imprinting method to generate dark solitons in the system. We begin with a general analysis of system dynamics and observe the emergence of a dark soliton and a shock wave in the form of sloshing motion of the condensate upon phase imprinting. The center of mass and soliton go out of phase because the soliton does not oscillate with the trap frequency. A detailed investigation of frequencies reveals significant differences in the results obtained in the mean-field versus the many-body picture.

The extraction of the Bełchatów lignite deposit located in the vicinity of the Dębina salt dome requires careful planning that considers the influence of mining projects on the slope and salt dome stability conditions. The instability problem is directly related to horizontal and vertical displacement, as well as the complex geological and mining conditions. These conditions are very unique with regard to the co-occurrence of the salt dome and lignite deposits in the same area, as well as the large scale of the pit wall slope. Thus, predicting rock mass behavior and ensuring the safety of mining operations are important issues. The presented analysis focused on the influence of long-term lignite extraction on the western pit wall slope of the Bełchatów field and the salt dome’s stability conditions. This study offers a comprehensive approach to a complex geotechnical problem defined by large-scale, complex geometry, and geological conditions. The rock mass behavior and stress conditions are simulated in numerical modelling. The results of the presented analysis will be useful not only for present mining activities but also for future developments related to post-mining and recultivation plans.
