Sulla coronaria L. Medik., a biennial forage legume typical of the Mediterranean basin, plays a significant role in foraging systems due to its high nutritional value, ability to increase ruminant live weight, and potential to reduce methane emissions. However, its allogamous nature complicates genetic improvement and the development of new varieties with desired traits. Given these challenges, this study aims to develop, for the first time, a successful protocol for the in vitro meristematic shoot regeneration of S. coronaria. The experiment utilizes four different flower explants (anther with filament, ovary, petals, and whole immature flower) collected from twenty distinct S. coronaria biotypes with three plant growth regulator (PGR) combinations and under both light and dark conditions. In terms of the regeneration response, the key factors appear to be the combinations of PGRs and the type of explant used. The interactions between all the factors do not seem to be significant. The impact of diabetic foot (DF) on the healthcare system represents a major public health problem, leading to a considerable clinical and economic burden. The factors contributing to DF's development and progression are strongly interconnected, including metabolic causes, neuropathy, arteriopathy, and inflammatory changes. Sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2-i), novel oral hypoglycemic drugs used as an adjunct to standard treatment, have recently changed the pharmacological management of diabetes. Nevertheless, data about the risk of limb amputation, discordant and limited to canagliflozin, which is currently avoided in the case of peripheral artery disease, have potentially discouraged the design of specific studies targeting DF. There is good evidence for the single immunomodulatory, neuroprotective, and beneficial vascular effects of SGLT2-i. Still, there is no clinical evidence about the early use of SGLT2-i in diabetic foot due to the lack of longitudinal and prospective studies proving the effect of these drugs without confounders. This narrative review aims to discuss the main evidence about the impact of SGLT2-i on the three complications of diabetes implicated in the development of DF, the state of the art, and the potential future implications. Sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is a medicinal and aromatic plant (MAP) belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Its morphological, productive and chemical characteristics are affected by abiotic and biotic factors. The use of biostimulants seems to be one of the most interesting innovative practices due to fact they can represent a promising approach for achieving sustainable and organic agriculture. Despite a large application in horticulture, the use of biostimulants on MAPs has been poorly investigated. On this basis, a field experiment in a 2-year study was done to assess the effect of foliar treatments with different types of biostimulants (containing seaweeds, fulvic acids and protein hydrolysates) and two frequencies of application on morphological, productive, and chemical characteristics of S. officinalis grown organically in Mediterranean environment. Morphological, productive, and chemical parameters were affected by the factors. The biostimulant application generated higher plant height, chlorophyll content, relative water content, biomass yield and essential oil yield compared to control plants. In addition, more frequent application of biostimulants produced higher biomass and essential oil yield. The application of fulvic acid and protein hydrolysates every week produced the highest total fresh yields (between 3.9 and 8.7 t ha-1) and total dry yields (between 1.3 and 2.5 t ha-1). The essential oil yield almost doubled (33.9 kg ha-1) with a higher frequency of protein hydrolysates application. In this study, 44 essential oil compounds were identified, and the frequency factor significantly influenced the percentage of 38 compounds. The highest percentage of some of the most representative monoterpenes, such as 1,8-cineole, a-thujone and camphor, were observed in biostimulated plants, with average increases between 6% and 35% compared to control plants. The highest values for total phenolics, rosmarinic acid, antioxidant activity were obtained in control plants and with a lower frequency of biostimulant applications. This study emphasizes how biostimulant applications may be used to improve sage production performance and essential oil parameters when produced in agricultural organic system. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) mulching films have an important function in crop cultivation; at the end of their life, however, their removal and disposal become both an economic and environmental problem. One possible alternative to low-density polyethylene (LDPE) mulch is provided by certified soil-biodegradable mulch films, such as those produced by Novamont and commercially available under the trade name MaterBi®. MaterBi is a biodegradable thermoplastic material made with starch and a biodegradable copolyester based on proprietary technology. In this study, we compared two biodegradable MaterBi®-based films (commercial and experimental films) with bare soil and a low-density polyethylene to evaluate their effect on yield and on a number of qualitative characteristics (organoleptic and nutraceutical composition) of eggplant fruits (cv Mirabelle F1) grown in two different regions in Southern Italy (Sicily and Campania). In our study, the use of biodegradable MaterBi® films improved not only yield and production parameters, such as the number and average weight of fruits, but also lipophilic and hydrophilic antioxidant activity and phenolic and ascorbic acid content. For many parameters, responses differed according to the cultivation environment and, in particular, the site's pedoclimatic conditions. Our results suggest that biodegradable MaterBi®-based mulching films are a potentially valid alternative to traditional LDPEs, providing the production and quality benefits reported above and promoting environmental sustainability, thanks to their positive biodegradable properties. Identifying atherosclerotic disease is the mainstay for the correct diagnosis of the large artery atherosclerosis ischemic stroke subtype and for choosing the right therapeutic strategy in acute ischemic stroke. Classification into symptomatic and asymptomatic plaque and estimation of the cardiovascular risk are essential to select patients eligible for pharmacological and/or surgical therapy in order to prevent future cerebral ischemic events. The difficulties in a "vulnerability" definition and the methodical issues concerning its detectability and quantification are still subjects of debate. Non-invasive imaging studies commonly used to detect arterial plaque are computed tomographic angiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound. Characterization of a carotid plaque type using the abovementioned imaging modalities represents the basis for carotid atherosclerosis management. Classification into symptomatic and asymptomatic plaque and estimation of the cardiovascular risk are essential to select patients eligible for pharmacological and/or surgical therapy in order to prevent future cerebral ischemic events. In this setting, artificial intelligence (AI) can offer suggestive solutions for tissue characterization and classification concerning carotid artery plaque imaging by analyzing complex data and using automated algorithms to obtain a final output. The aim of this review is to provide overall knowledge about the role of AI models applied to non-invasive imaging studies for the detection of symptomatic and vulnerable carotid plaques.
