This paper presents some of the results of the GPR and ERT surveys conducted at the Castle of Melfi in order to document the presence of ancient buried structures. The fortress is made up of several buildings modified and added over time: the original core of the structure dates back to the Norman period and was probably built on a previous Byzantine castrum between the end of the 11th and the beginning of the 12th century; it was enlarged in the Frederick era and underwent further modifications in Angevin and Aragonese period. Integrated GPR and ERT investigations were conducted inside two courtyards of the westernmost part of the fortress, the Cortile degli Armigeri and the Cortile del Mortorio, and two isolated ERT profiles were also measured on the north-eastern sector of the external walls and in the underlying stretch of the moat.

Prendersi cura del patrimonio culturale, con particolare riguardo alle strutture archeologiche sepolte, richiede interventi atti a non alterare o danneggiare non solo i resti antichi, sia visibili che ancora sepolti, ma anche le zone a essi immediatamente circostanti. L'interesse principale, nel campo degli studi combinati geofisica-archeologia si è rivolto alla metodologia geofisica nota come georadar (o, con il termine anglosassone, Ground Penetrating Radar - GPR). Questa tecnologia si è ormai affermata come una delle migliori e più versatili applicazioni geofisiche in campo archeologico. Infatti, il georadar è particolarmente adatto per fornire dati ad alta risoluzione e per individuare elementi non ancora riportati alla luce. Nel presente caso in studio vengono riportati i risultati di rilievi georadar resisi necessari in tre aree interessate dallo scavo del tunnel legato al progetto Interconnessione TAP. In queste aree, infatti, un primo saggio di scavo aveva messo in evidenza la presenza di strutture di interesse archeologico.

Si riportano di seguito i risultati della campagna di rilievi geofisici effettuati presso un'area sita all'interno del Comune di Alezio (LE). Le indagini sono state effettuate mediante metodologie non distruttive con apparecchiature in dotazione al Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali dell'Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale (CNR-ISPC, sede secondaria di Lecce). In particolare, sono stati realizzati: un rilievo georadar tridimensionale mediante GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Impulsato Hi Mod (IDS), dotato di antenna dual band da 600-200MHz; un rilievo di tipo magnetometrico (configurazione gradiometrica) mediante gradiometro Bartington mod. 601. Lo scopo delle indagini è stato quello di individuare l'eventuale presenza di strutture sepolte di possibile interesse archeologico. Le indagini in sito sono state effettuate in data 13/05/2021 dal Dott. Giovanni Leucci (geofisico), dalla Dott.ssa Lara De Giorgi (geofisico, responsabile scientifico del Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali del CNR-ISPC), dai Dott. Ivan Ferrari e Francesco Giuri (archeologi dell'Information Technologies Laboratory - ITLab, CNR-ISPC), e dalla Dott.ssa Ilaria Miccoli (archeologa del Laboratorio di Topografia Antica e Cartografia Archeologica del CNR-ISPC). In accordo con la società A.R.Va Srl è stata individuata l'area di intervento denominata area 1. Le indagini georadar sono state integrate con un rilievo magnetometrico (in configurazione gradiometrica), eseguendo due griglie denominate griglia 1 e griglia 2. Le aree indagate sono state opportunamente georeferenziate mediante misure a terra e rilievo aerofotografico da drone. L'elaborazione dei dati Georadar è stata realizzata dal Dott. Giovanni Leucci, mentre l'elaborazione dei dati magnetici è stata effettuata dalla Dott.ssa Lara De Giorgi. Alla georeferenziazione e interpretazione archeologica delle anomalie hanno collaborato i Dott. Ilaria Miccoli, Immacolata Ditaranto e Giuseppe Scardozzi (questi ultimi archeologi del Laboratorio di Topografia Antica e Cartografia Archeologica del CNR-ISPC).

GPR surveys were carried out in the Baroque Cathedral of Lecce and in its crypt built in the 12th cent. and transformed in the 16th and 17th centuries. The investigations highlighted the presence of many unknown structures under the floor of the church. Some of them could be belong to the previous building of the Romanesque period, while most of the anomalies are related to tombs and underground chambers (ossuaries) located under the floor of the Baroque church. Moreover, six tombs of the 19th and 20th centuries and other ancient structures were documented under the crypt floor.

Si riportano di seguito i risultati della campagna di rilievi geofisici effettuati presso tre siti di interesse archeologico situati rispettivamente: 1. Laterza (TA), intervento1; 2. Taranto, intervento 7; 3. Grottaglie (TA), intervento 10. Le indagini sono state effettuate mediante metodologie non distruttive con apparecchiature in dotazione al Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali dell'Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale (CNR-ISPC, sede secondaria di Lecce). In particolare è stato realizzato un rilievo di tipo magnetometrico (configurazione gradiometrica) mediante gradiometro Bartington mod. 601 nell'area di intervento 1; un rilievo georadar tridimensionale mediante GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Impulsato Hi Mod (IDS), dotato di antenna dual band da 600-200MHz nell'area di intervento 7; un rilievo georadar tridimensionale mediante GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Impulsato Hi Mod (IDS), dotato di antenna dual band da 600-200MHz integrato con un rilievo di tipo magnetometrico (configurazione gradiometrica) mediante gradiometro Bartington mod. 601 nell'area di intervento 10. In quest'ultimo caso sono state rilevate con gradiometro le aree non rilevabili con georadar. Lo scopo delle indagini è stato quello di individuare l'eventuale presenza di strutture di interesse archeologico sepolte. Le indagini in sito sono state effettuate in data 21/10/2020 presso l'area di intervento 1 e 23/10/2020 presso le aree di intervento 7 e 10. Le indagini sono state realizzate dal Dott. Giovanni Leucci (geofisico), dalla Dott.ssa Lara De Giorgi (geofisico, responsabile scientifico del Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali del CNR-ISPC), dai Dott. Le indagini sono state effettuate mediante metodologie non distruttive con apparecchiature in dotazione al Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali dell'Istituto di Scienze del Patrimonio Culturale (CNR-ISPC, sede secondaria di Lecce). In particolare è stato realizzato un rilievo georadar tridimensionale mediante GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Impulsato Hi Mod (IDS), dotato di antenna dual band da 600-200MHz. Lo scopo delle indagini è stato quello di individuare l'eventuale presenza di cavitá e di strutture di interesse archeologico sepolte. Le indagini in sito sono state effettuate in data 13/02/2020 dal Dr. Giovanni Leucci (geofisico, responsabile scientifico del Laboratorio di Geofisica Applicata ai Beni Archeologici e Monumentali del CNR-ISPC), dalla Dott.ssa Lara De Giorgi (geofisico), dalla Dott.ssa Ilaria Miccoli (archeologa del Laboratorio di Topografia Antica, Archeologia e Telerilevamento del CNR-ISPC), dai Dott. The paper concerns the study and reconstruction of the Roman aqueducts of Taormina, recognized and documented during archaeological surveys carried out from 2010. The research, aimed at reconstructing the water supplying strategies of the ancient city, allowed for the identification of three aqueducts, named A, B and C, which were probably built between the 1st and 2nd century ad. They consist of specus built in opus caementicium and characterised by coatings in cocciopesto of different thickness and ceilings with different shape ; moreover, in the second phase of aqueduct A, a terracotta pipe was housed inside the specus. Aqueducts A and B, about 2 km long, starting from springs located respectively in the Petralia area and the initial stretch of the Sant'Antonio stream. They reached the western and eastern sectors of the urban area of Tauromenium passing respectively to the west and to the east of Puretta and Castello mountains. Aqueduct C had a considerable route about 16 km long, characterised by some bridges in opus testaceum. It started from springs located at the south-western slope of Galfa mountain and two long stretches of its route were recognized, one about 3,5 km long in the territory of Mongiuffi Melia, the other about 3,7 km long, more close to Taormina, where it run nearby aqueduct B but at higher altitude.

The paper concerns an experimental system for the management of data related to the archaeological heritage of the urban area of Lecce. The system, based on the cloud technology (SaaS), includes a dashboard accessible from the web, some applications for the consultation of the new digital archaeological map of Lecce and for the management of an eterogeneous dataset of ancient features of the Messapian, Roman and Medieval times. The system is based on a suite of open source software modified according to the project purposes. The result is a web portal that offers an area for consultation/inserting/modifying alphanumeric and geospatial data and an area for consultation only, depending on the credentials of the users during login. This portal allows researchers and Public Administrations technicians to manage and share data, while other users (citizens, scholars, tourists) are able to query the data only.

Hierapolis of Phrygia (Turkey) was one of the most important Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine city in Asia Minor. The Italian Archaeological Mission in more than 50 years of activity has brought to light and restored many monuments of the ancient city, helping to understand the urban layout in the various periods of its history. In 2011 ground-penetrating radar (GPR) prospection, with the aim of supporting the archaeological excavations and surveys, was performed in some important sample areas by a team of the Institute for Archaeological and Monumental Heritage of the National Research Council of Italy. The analysis of the GPR measurements revealed many anomalies that could be ascribed to archaeological structures, as well as other anomalies of presumable natural origin. The data collected were georeferenced in the digital archaeological map of Hierapolis using a RTK-GPS system. © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

We report on the photoluminescence (PL) of GaAs-Al0.32Ga0.68As core-shell nanowires grown by MOVPE, and their dependence on the precursors V:III molar ratio utilized in the vapor during growth. It is shown that the PL emission of the GaAs nanowire core red-shifts with decreasing the V:III ratio from 30:1 to 4:1, an effect tentatively ascribed to the build-up of a space-charge region at the core-shell hetero-interface, the latter associated to the unintentional incorporation of impurities, namely C in GaAs and Si in AlGaAs.

Arrays of well-aligned GaAs/AlGaAs core-shell nanowires have strong potential for photovoltaic applications. We analyse simulated reflection, transmission and absorption spectra of periodic arrays of these nanostructures, showing high absorption that compares favourably with experimental data.
