Abstract Introduction Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) and radial probe endobronchial ultrasound (RP‐EBUS) are essential bronchoscopic procedures for diagnosing peripheral lung lesions. Despite their individual advantages, the optimal circumstances for their combination remain uncertain. Methods This single‐center retrospective study enrolled 473 patients with 529 pulmonary nodules who underwent ENB and/or RP‐EBUS biopsies between December 2021 and December 2022. Diagnostic yield was calculated using strict, intermediate, and liberal definitions. In the strict definition, only malignant and specific benign lesions were deemed diagnostic at the time of the index procedure. The intermediate and liberal definitions included additional results from the follow‐up period. Results The diagnostic yield of the strict definition was not statistically different among the three groups (ENB/Combination/RP‐EBUS 63.8%/64.2%/62.6%, p = 0.944). 3. Effectiveness of simulation-based interventions on empathy enhancement among nursing students: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis

Abstract Background This study aimed to secure and analyze evidence regarding the enhancement of nursing students’ empathy through simulation-based interventions. It comprehensively analyzed self-reported emotions and reactions as primary outcomes, along with the results reported by nursing students who experienced simulation-based interventions, including empathy. Methods This systematic literature review and meta-analysis investigated the effects of simulation-based interventions on enhancing empathy among nursing students. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were used for the systematic review and meta-analysis. The following details were considered: population, nursing students; intervention, simulation-based interventions targeting empathy enhancement; comparators, control groups without intervention or those undergoing general non-simulation-based classes; and outcomes, self-reported empathy. Results In the systematic review of 28 studies, it was found that the use of simulation-based interventions among nursing students led to an increase in empathy, albeit with a small effect size. This was demonstrated through a pooled, random-effects meta-analysis, yielding an effect size (Hedge’s g) of 0.35 (95% CI: 0.14, 0.57, p = 0.001). Purpose: Oligoprogressive lesions are observed in a subset of patients who progress to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), while other lesions remain controlled by systemic therapy. This study evaluates the impact of progression-directed therapy (PDT) on these oligoprogressive lesions. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 40 patients diagnosed with oligoprogressive CRPC. PDT was performed for treating all progressive sites using radiotherapy. Fifteen patients received PDT using radiotherapy for all progressive sites (PDT group) while 25 had additional first-line systemic treatments (non-PDT group). In PDT group, 7 patients underwent PDT and unchanged systemic therapy (PDT-A group) and 8 patients underwent PDT with additional new line of systemic therapy on CRPC (PDT-B group). The Kaplan–Meier method was used to assess treatment outcomes. Results: The prostate specific antigen (PSA) nadir was significantly lower in PDT group compare to non-PDT group (p=0.007). A 50% PSA decline and complete PSA decline were observed in 13 patients (86.7%) and 10 patients (66.7%) of PDT group and in 18 patients (72.0%) and 11 patients (44.0%) of non-PDT group, respectively. The PSA-progression free survival of PDT-B group was significantly longer than non-PDT group. The median time to failure of first-line systemic therapy on CRPC was 30.2 months in patients in PDT group and 14.9 months in non-PDT group (p=0.014). PDT-B group showed a significantly longer time to progression than non-PDT group (p=0.025). Minimal PDT-related adverse events were observed. Conclusions PDT can delay progression of disease and enhance treatment efficacy with acceptable tolerability in oligoprogressive CRPC.

5. The effect of virtual reality simulation on nursing students’ communication skills: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Virtual reality simulation (VRS) allows individuals to experience a sense of presence in a virtual environment, and it has been increasingly adopted as a novel teaching method in nursing education. VRS can have positive effects, such as patient safety, privacy assurance in healthcare, and enhanced interest and immersion in education. It is important to synthesize the results to date to determine if VRS has the potential to improve communication skills in practical nursing students. This systematic literature review and meta-analysis investigated the effect of VRS on the enhancement of communication skills among nursing students. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines were employed for systematic review and meta-analysis. The following “PICO” details were considered: population—nursing students, intervention—VRS targeting communication skills enhancement, comparator—control groups without intervention or those undergoing general classes, and outcomes—communication skills. The search strategy yielded 301 results from nine databases, and 10 studies were selected for inclusion in our analysis. To calculate the overall effect sizes of the primary and secondary outcomes in the included studies, we used MIX 2.0 Pro (Version 2.0.1.6, BiostatXL, 2017) for the meta-analysis. The overall effect size for communication skills was 0.44, signifying a significant effect. A meta-regression analysis examining communication skills revealed significant results for the following factors: Fund (Ref.: No), outcome measurement time (Ref.: Immediately), outcome follow-up (Ref.: No), and debriefing (Ref.: No). Considering factors such as variations in sample size, research approaches, and the effects of independent studies on communication skills, this systematic literature review and meta-analysis suggests that VRS significantly improves nursing students’ communication skills overall.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero, identifier CRD42023439064.

6. Enhancing nursing competency through virtual reality simulation among nursing students: a systematic review and meta-analysis

AimStudies on the effectiveness of virtual reality (VR) in nursing education have explored its impact on learning outcomes, emotional immersion and engagement, learner self-confidence, and satisfaction, generally showing positive aspects. However, there is a need for a systematic review to examine the specific influence of VR-based education on nursing students’ practical competency.MethodAccording to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, 22 studies were selected based on inclusion criteria from 579 articles, published from January 1, 2018, to March 31, 2024, across nine major databases including PubMed and EMbase. The target population comprised nursing students, and the intervention focused on VR-based simulations aimed at enhancing competency, compared to control groups receiving either no intervention or conventional non-virtual simulation. The primary outcome, nursing competency, was analyzed using MIX 2.0 Pro (Ver. 2.0.1.6, BiostatXL, 2017) to calculate pooled effect sizes.ResultThe pooled effect size for nursing competency was determined to be large, with Hedge’s g = 0.88 (95% CI, 0.47 to 1.29). Meta-regression analysis identified several factors associated with an increase in nursing competency. These included studies published after 2022, approval of an IRB, absence of funding, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), interventions reported as shorter than 4 weeks or not reported, sessions fewer than 4 or not reported, session duration under 1 h or not reported, and observational measurement methods. Additional factors enhancing nursing competency were the inclusion of a pre-briefing before simulations, the absence of a debriefing afterward, and the exclusion of other activities during the simulation.ConclusionBy combining the results of the included studies, the systematic review and meta-analysis accounted for variations in sample size, study methodology, and independent intervention effects, providing an overall evaluation of the effectiveness of simulation-based education in improving nursing students’ competency.LimitationThe selection criteria for the studies analyzed, which included only those published in English or Korean and reported precise means, standard deviations, and sample sizes, could lead to selection bias and limit the generalization of our study results.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews: http://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/, identifier CRD42023446348.

8. Educational needs of people with type 1 diabetes mellitus and their parents: A cross‐sectional study

Abstract Aims To investigate the educational needs of type 1 diabetes patients and their parents. Design A cross‐sectional design was employed. Methods Data were collected via an online survey and analysed by descriptive statistics and an independent t‐test. Statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS version 25.0. Participants comprised type 1 diabetes patients (100) and their parents (93). Results Complications management, disease characteristics and exercise were found to be the highest educational needs of type 1 diabetes patients and their parents. The following educational needs differed between patients and parents: complication management, exercise, continuous management, psychosocial needs and risk factors. Regarding psychosocial needs, social life was the most needed in terms of disease management and how to have a social life with the disease.

Purpose: To quantify interobserver variation (IOV) in target volume and organs-at-risk (OAR) contouring across 31 institutions in breast cancer cases and to explore the clinical utility of deep learning (DL)-based auto-contouring in reducing potential IOV. Methods and materials: In phase 1, two breast cancer cases were randomly selected and distributed to multiple institutions for contouring six clinical target volumes (CTVs) and eight OAR. In Phase 2, auto-contour sets were generated using a previously published DL Breast segmentation model and were made available for all participants. The difference in IOV of submitted contours in phases 1 and 2 was investigated quantitatively using the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) and Hausdorff distance (HD). The qualitative analysis involved using contour heat maps to visualize the extent and location of these variations and the required modification. Results: Over 800 pairwise comparisons were analysed for each structure in each case. Quantitative phase 2 metrics showed significant improvement in the mean DSC (from 0.69 to 0.77) and HD (from 34.9 to 17.9 mm). Quantitative analysis showed increased interobserver agreement in phase 2, specifically for CTV structures (5–19 %), leading to fewer manual adjustments. Underlying IOV differences causes were reported using a questionnaire and hierarchical clustering analysis based on the volume of CTVs. Conclusion: DL-based auto-contours improved the contour agreement for OARs and CTVs significantly, both qualitatively and quantitatively, suggesting its potential role in minimizing radiation therapy protocol deviation.

ObjectiveThis study aims to explore the impact of an empathy intervention through patients’ stories and investigate its impact on attitudes and stigma toward mental illness among nursing students prone to hold prejudices against this condition.MethodsUsing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, this study focused on nursing students and examined the effects of an empathy enhancement program targeting individuals with mental illnesses on communication, social distance, and prejudice. Ninety third-year nursing students from S and C cities and H and C universities enrolled in psychiatric nursing courses participated in the study. The intervention lasted 4 weeks and used the patient’s story to facilitate a participatory approach to understanding the patient’s life and encouraging mutual growth and expansion of consciousness in the therapeutic relationship. Age was treated as a covariate and analyzed using a two-way repeated-measure analysis of covariance.ResultsThe Empathy Enhancement Program Using Patient Stories (EEP-PS) group and the clinical practicum group showed no significant differences in communication, social distance, and empathy scores between the two groups or across different time points. 11. Effects of metaverse-based career mentoring for nursing students: a mixed methods study

Abstract Background There is a lack of studies on metaverse-based career mentoring for college students in both quantitative and qualitative research. This study aimed to examine the effect of metaverse-based career mentoring among nursing students and explore the experiences of mentors and mentees. Methods This study used a mixed methods design using both a survey for collecting quantitative data and focus group interviews for a qualitative one. A total of 8 mentors and 43 mentees participated in the metaverse-based career mentoring program. The program covered eight career fields and was delivered across eight sessions of 60 min each, over six days. Career decision-making self-efficacy among mentees and platform and program satisfaction were measured before and after the program. Afterwards, 7 mentors and 12 mentees participated in the focus group interviews to investigate their experience of participating in the metaverse-based career mentoring program. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Mann-Whitney U test. The qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. Results After the metaverse-based career mentoring program, mentees’ career decision-making self-efficacy increased significantly compared to the baseline level. From the mentor–mentee focus group interviews, three key themes were derived: (i) communicating frankly and openly, (ii) being satisfied with realistic communication and program functions, and (iii) expecting an even more optimized program. Conclusions A metaverse-based career mentoring program for nursing students can have a positive effect on their career decision-making self-efficacy. In addition, in terms of education, it is helpful as a non-face-to-face medium and feeling a sense of reality, so it is expected that it will be beneficial in education by applying various contents in the future.

12. Characterization of MET Alterations in 37 Gastroesophageal Cancer Cell Lines for MET-Targeted Therapy

Capmatinib and savolitinib, selective MET inhibitors, are widely used to treat various MET-positive cancers. In this study, we aimed to determine the effects of these inhibitors on MET-amplified gastric cancer (GC) cells. Methods: After screening 37 GC cell lines, the following cell lines were found to be MET-positive with copy number variation >10: SNU-620, ESO51, MKN-45, SNU-5, and OE33 cell lines. Next, we assessed the cytotoxic response of these cell lines to capmatinib or savolitinib alone using cell counting kit-8 and clonogenic cell survival assays. Western blotting was performed to assess the effects of capmatinib and savolitinib on the MET signaling pathway. Xenograft studies were performed to evaluate the in vivo therapeutic efficacy of savolitinib in MKN-45 cells. Savolitinib and capmatinib exerted anti-proliferative effects on MET-amplified GC cell lines in a dose-dependent manner. Savolitinib inhibited the phosphorylation of MET and downstream signaling pathways, such as the protein kinase B (AKT) and extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathways, in MET-amplified GC cells. Additionally, savolitinib significantly decreased the number of colonies formed on the soft agar and exerted dose-dependent anti-tumor effects in an MKN-45 GC cell xenograft model. Furthermore, a combination of trastuzumab and capmatinib exhibited enhanced inhibition of AKT and ERK activation in human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)- and MET-positive OE33 cells. Targeting MET with savolitinib and capmatinib efficiently suppressed the growth of MET-amplified GC cells. Moreover, these MET inhibitors exerted synergistic effects with trastuzumab on HER2- and MET-amplified GC cells.

13. Whole Process of Standardization of Diffusion-Weighted Imaging: Phantom Validation and Clinical Application According to the QIBA Profile

Background: To use the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) as reliable biomarkers, validation of MRI equipment performance and clinical acquisition protocols should be performed prior to application in patients. This study aims to validate various MRI equipment and clinical brain protocols for diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) using commercial phantom, and confirm the validated protocols in patients’ images. Methods: The performance of four different scanners and clinical brain protocols were validated using a Quantitative Imaging Biomarker Alliance (QIBA) diffusion phantom and cloud-based analysis tool. We evaluated the performance metrics regarding accuracy and repeatability of ADC measurement using QIBA profile. The validated clinical brain protocols were applied to 17 patients, and image quality and repeatability of ADC were assessed. Results: The MRI equipment performance of all four MRI scanners demonstrated high accuracy in ADC measurement (ADC bias, −2.3% to −0.4%), excellent linear correlation to the reference ADC value (slope, 0.9 to 1.0; R2, 0.999–1.000), and high short-term repeatability [within-subject-coefficient-of-variation (wCV), 0% to 0.3%]. The clinical protocols were also validated by fulfilling QIBA claims with high accuracy (ADC bias, −3.1% to −0.7%) and robust repeatability (wCV, 0% to 0.1%). Brain DWI acquired using the validated clinical protocols showed ideal image quality (mean score ≥ 2.9) and good repeatability (wCV, 1.8–2.2). Conclusions: The whole process of standardization of DWI demonstrated the robustness of ADC with high accuracy and repeatability across diverse MRI equipment and clinical protocols in accordance with the QIBA claims.

14. Associated factors with depression and sleep quality in T1DM patients: a cross-sectional descriptive study

Abstract Background Individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) may experience sleep problems, usually due to low blood sugar levels during sleep or performance of blood sugar management (e.g., blood sugar monitoring). This study aimed to identify the disease-related characteristics, psychosocial aspects, and related factors underlying sleep quality in patients with T1DM. Methods This study employed a descriptive research design. The participants were 159 individuals with T1DM who completed online questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlations, and multiple regression analyses. Results The average score for depression in T1DM patients was 23.77 (SD 5.31), and sleep quality received a score of 4.58 (SD 3.22). Depression was positively correlated with sleep quality and negatively correlated with the total resilience score. The factors linked to depression in T1DM patients were duration of disease, sleep latency, sleep duration, sleep disturbance, and resilience-acceptance of self and life sub-factors, with an explanatory power of 44.4% for the depression variance. The associated factors with sleep quality in T1DM patients were complications, resilience-personal competence sub-factors, and depression, with an explanatory power of 37.4% for sleep quality variance. Conclusions The results of this study suggest that to improve sleep quality in patients with T1DM, it is necessary to develop and support disease management to prevent complications and implement interventions for improving resilience and reducing negative emotions such as depression.

15. A low risk of nosocomial transmission of subclinical tuberculosis to neonates in a postpartum care center under COVID-19 control measures

We report the results of investigating and managing a tuberculosis (TB) exposure in a postpartum care center. Among the contacts exposed to a nursing assistant with subclinical TB, 5 of 44 neonates (11.4%) had positive tuberculin skin tests (TSTs) at 3 months of age, and all the TST-positive neonates received the Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccination. Seven of 28 healthcare workers (25.0%) and 1 of 3 household contacts (33.3%) were positive in the initial or repeated interferon-gamma release assay. None of the contacts developed TB disease during the study period. Annual TB examinations of healthcare personnel at a postpartum care center under the Tuberculosis Prevention Act in South Korea enabled the early detection of subclinical TB, which reduced the risk of transmission to neonates under strict coronavirus disease 2019 prevention measures.

Abstract Background The Korean Radiation Oncology Group (KROG) 19 − 09 prospective cohort study aims to determine the effect of regional nodal irradiation on regional recurrence rates in ypN0 breast cancer patients. Dosimetric variations between radiotherapy (RT) plans of participating institutions may affect the clinical outcome of the study. We performed this study to assess inter-institutional dosimetric variations by dummy run. Methods Twelve participating institutions created RT plans for four clinical scenarios using computed tomography images of two dummy cases. Based on a reference structure set, we analyzed dose-volume histograms after collecting the RT plans. Results We found variations in dose distribution between institutions, especially in the regional nodal areas. Whole breast and regional nodal irradiation (WBI + RNI) plans had lower inter-institutional agreement and similarity for 95% isodose lines than WBI plans. Fleiss’s kappa values, which were used to measure inter-institutional agreement for the 95% isodose lines, were 0.830 and 0.767 for the large and medium breast WBI plans, respectively, and 0.731 and 0.679 for the large and medium breast WBI + RNI plans, respectively. There were outliers in minimum dose delivered to 95% of the structure (D95%) of axillary level 1 among WBI plans and in D95% of the interpectoral region and axillary level 4 among WBI + RNI plans. Conclusion We found inter-institutional and inter-case variations in radiation dose delivered to target volumes and organs at risk. As KROG 19 − 09 is a prospective cohort study, we accepted the dosimetric variation among the different institutions. Actual patient RT plan data should be collected to achieve reliable KROG 19 − 09 study results.

Abstract Background Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB)‐guided transbronchial dye marking and video‐assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is an emerging technique that enables successful resection of multiple small subsolid pulmonary nodules. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and safety of preoperative ENB‐guided transbronchial multiple dye localization for VATS resection of subsolid pulmonary nodules. Methods As a single‐center pilot study, we recruited patients with at least two small or subsolid pulmonary nodules. Multiple‐dye localization was performed by intraoperative ENB‐guided transbronchial injection of an indigo carmine dye. The patients underwent VATS for sublobar resection immediately after localization. The accuracy of ENB‐guided dye marking was checked. Results ENB‐guided one‐stage multiple dye localization was conducted for 18 pulmonary nodules in seven patients between September 2018 and December 2019. The mean diameter of the pulmonary nodules was 9.3 mm (range, 4–18) and the mean distance from the pleura to pulmonary nodule was 6 mm (range, 1–17 mm). ENB‐guided transbronchial multiple dye localization was successfully performed in 94.4% (17/18), and the accuracy of ENB‐guided dye marking was 88.2% (15/17). When two nodules were not seen in intraoperative fields, anatomical sublobar resection was performed. There was no conversion to thoracotomy and operative mortalities. Among the seven patients, only one patient showed mild intrabronchial bleeding but stopped spontaneously. The changes in lung function after multiple wedge resections (−1.6% to 24.8%) were tolerable level. Conclusions ENB‐guided one‐stage transbronchial dye localization showed accurate and safe intraoperative identification of multiple subsolid pulmonary nodules. A large scale prospective clinical study is warranted.

Abstract Background To evaluate the usefulness of surveillance-abbreviated magnetic resonance imaging (AB-MRI) for the detection of ipsilateral local tumor recurrence (LTR) in patients who underwent oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery (BCS) with acellular dermal matrix (ADM) by comparing its diagnostic performance with that of mammography (MG) and ultrasonography (US). Methods The postoperative MG, US, and AB-MRI findings of the ipsilateral breast and pathological results of 324 patients who underwent oncoplastic BCS using ADM were reviewed. The cancer detection rate (CDR), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) for biopsy, accuracy, and area under the curve (AUC) for each imaging modality were calculated. Results A total of 8 ipsilateral LTRs were diagnosed, and most cancers (87.5%) were stage 0 or 1 (median size of invasive cancer, 1.44 cm; range, 0.7–2 cm). The CDRs of MG, US, MG + US, and AB-MRI were 0.009, 0.012, 0.015, and 0.025 per woman, respectively. Three cancers were detectable on only AB-MRI, and the additional CDR of AB-MRI was 0.010. The sensitivity and specificity of MG, US, MG + US, and AB-MRI were 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, and 100% and 99.7%, 98.4%, 98.1%, and 97.8%, respectively. The PPVs for biopsy were 75%, 44.4%, 45.5%, and 53.3%, respectively. The AUC was significantly higher for AB-MRI (0.989) than for MG alone (0.686, P = 0.0009), US alone (0.742, P = 0.009), and MG + US (0.803, P = 0.04). A total of 66.7% of cancers visible on only AB-MRI were located at the deep posterior portion of the excision cavity, which might have been missed with MG or MG + US due to masking by the ADM filler. Conclusion AB-MRI can improve the detection of ipsilateral LTR despite postoperative changes caused by ADM fillers compared to conventional MG and US. Patients who undergo BCS with ADM can be candidates for AB-MRI surveillance considering improved cancer detection and high sensitivity.

Recent incidents in Room n, sexual harassment by social leaders, and the #MeToo movement showed Korea’s immature and distorted sexual culture. This cross-sectional descriptive study investigated the factors affecting the sexual behavior of Korean university students. The participants comprised 258 university students from S and C. The data collection period was from 29 November 2021 to 3 December 2021, and an online survey was conducted on sexual behavior, sexual attitudes, and subject characteristics. The collected data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 25.0. The average age of the participants was 21.38 ± 1.62 years old; the average age when they first watched a pornographic video on YouTube was 14.25 ± 2.55 years old. Sexual behavior was statistically significantly higher for men over 21 and under 14 when they first watched a pornographic video. As the age of the subjects increased, the younger the age of viewing pornographic videos and the thumbnail viewing path of the pornographic videos affected sexual behavior, with an explanatory power of 11.0% (F = 6.27, p < 0.001). Higher sexual attitudes in the communion and permissiveness domains showed greater influence on sexual behavior; the explanatory power was 24.0% (F = 10.02, p < 0.001). Korean university students must be educated on sex early to develop correct sexual attitudes and engage in correct and responsible sexual behaviors in their youth.

Abstract Background To map anatomic patterns of para-aortic lymph node (PALN) recurrence in cervical cancer patients and validate currently available guidelines on PA clinical target volumes (CTV). Methods Cervical cancer patients who developed PALN recurrence were included. The PALNs were classified as left-lateral para-aortic (LPA), aorto-caval (AC), and right para-caval (RPC). Four PA CTVs were contoured for each patient to validate PALN coverage. CTVRTOG was contoured based on the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group guideline. CTVK was contoured as proposed by Keenan et al. CTVM was contoured by expanding symmetrical margins around the aorta and inferior vena cava of 7 mm up to the T12–L1 interspace. CTVnew was created by modifying CTVRTOG to obtain better coverage. Results We identified 92 PALNs in 35 cervical cancer patients. 46.8% of the PALNs were at LPA, 38.0% were at AC, and 15.2% were at RPC areas. CTVRTOG, CTVK, and CTVM covered 87.0%, 88.0%, and 62.0% of all PALNs, respectively. PALN recurrence above the left renal vein was associated with PALN involvement at diagnosis (p = 0.043). Extending upper border to the superior mesenteric artery allowed the CTVnew to cover 96.7% of all PALNs and all nodes in 91.4% of patients. Conclusion CTVRTOG and CTVK encompassed most PALN recurrences. For high-risk patients, such as those having PALN involvement at diagnosis, extending the superior border of CTV from the left renal vein to superior mesenteric artery could be considered.

Abstract Background Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is a useful method to obtain tissue for peripheral lung nodules. We aimed to understand the diagnostic yield and safety profile in high‐risk pulmonary nodules that cannot be accessed by percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy. Methods In this single‐center retrospective study, we reviewed patients who underwent ENB for high‐risk pulmonary nodules. All procedures were performed under moderate sedation using intravenous midazolam and fentanyl. Results A total of 100 pulmonary nodules in 90 patients were subjected to ENB between October 2018 and May 2020. The median age of the study population was 66 (59–73). The mean diameter of the lung nodules was 27.9 mm. The diagnostic yield of ENB‐guided biopsy was 53.0%. Although the nodule size (odds ratio: 1.055, p = 0.007) and positive bronchus sign (odds ratio: 2.918, p = 0.020) were associated with the diagnostic yield during univariate analysis, nodule size was the only independent variable on the multivariable analysis. Interestingly, the diagnostic yield showed an upward trend after 60 cases, from 45%–65%. Procedure‐related complications were reported in 16 cases; among these, pneumothorax occurred in three cases, and four cases experienced moderate bleeding. No instance of major bleeding or death was linked to ENB‐guided biopsy. Conclusion ENB‐guided biopsy for high‐risk pulmonary nodules demonstrated an acceptable diagnostic yield and good safety profile. Moreover, the diagnostic yield was associated with nodule size and procedure experience.

Purpose: Emerging data suggest that higher radiation doses in post-mastectomy radiotherapy may be associated with an increased risk of reconstruction complications. This study aimed to validate previous findings regarding the impact of radiation dose on complications among women with breast cancer using a multi-center dataset. Methods: Fifteen institutions participated, and women with breast cancer who received radiotherapy after either autologous or prosthetic breast reconstruction were included. The primary endpoint was major post-radiation therapy complications requiring re-operation for explantation, flap failure, or bleeding control. Results: In total, 314 patients were included. Radiotherapy was performed using both conventional fractionation and hypofractionation in various schedules. The range of the radiation therapy dose in Equivalent Dose in 2 Gy fractions (EQD2; α/β = 3.5) varied from 43.4 to 71.0 Gy (median dose: 48.6 Gy). Boost radiation therapy was administered to 49 patients. Major post-radiation therapy complications were observed in 24 (7.6%) patients. Abstract The South Korean government effectively contained the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak primarily associated with a religious group. We conducted SARS-CoV-2 whole genome sequencing of 66 cases to investigate connections among the initial South Korean cases and the religious group outbreak. We assessed the accuracy of genomic investigation by comparing the whole genome sequences with comprehensive contact tracing records. Five transmission clusters were estimated among the 15 initial cases. The six close-contact cases and two potential exposure pairs identified by contact tracing showed two or fewer nucleotide base differences. Additionally, we identified two transmission clusters that were phylogenetically distinct from the initial clusters, sharing common G11083T, G26144T, and C14805T markers. The strain closest to the two additional clusters was identified from a pair of identical sequences isolated from individuals who traveled from Wuhan to Italy. Our findings provide insights into the origins of community spread of COVID-19.

26. Factors Associated with Student Satisfaction and Self-Confidence in Simulation Learning among Nursing Students in Korea

This study aimed to examine the relationships between student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning (SCLS), the simulation design scale (SDS), and educational practices in simulation (EPSS) and to identify the influencing factors on SCLS in nursing students undergoing simulation learning. Of the fourth-year nursing students, 71 who were taking a medical–surgical nursing simulation course and voluntarily provided informed consent to participate in the study were enrolled. Data on SCLS, SDS, and EPSS were collected via an online survey after the simulation, from 1 October 2019 to 11 October 2019. The mean SCLS score was 56.31 ± 7.26, the mean SDS score was 86.82 ± 10.19 (range: 64~100), and the mean EPSS score was 70.87 ± 7.66 (range: 53~80). SCLS was positively correlated with SDS (r = 0.74, p < 0.001) and EPSS (r = 0.75, p < 0.001). The regression model for SCLS in nursing students revealed that SCLS increased with increasing EPSS and SDS, and that SDS and EPSS explained 58.7% of the variance in SCLS (F = 50.83, p < 0.001). Therefore, to improve the learning satisfaction and learning confidence of nursing students in simulation classes, it is necessary to consider simulation design and practice considering educational factors.

27. Factors Affecting Depression and Its Relation to Sleep Quality among Parents of Type 1 Diabetes Patients

This study investigated factors affecting depression (CES-D) among parents of patients with type-1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), a chronic disease that requires constant management. A complex set of factors influence depression in parents and thus requires further research. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study. A survey on related variables was conducted on 217 parents of patients with T1DM. The collected data were analyzed using the PASW Statistics program, and factors influencing participants’ depression were identified through stepwise multiple regression. The results show that three variables exerted a significant effect on depression (source of information, resilience–personal competence, and Pittsburgh sleep quality index score), and all the variables explained a majority of the variance in depression. The results indicate that the parents of patients with T1DM were less depressed when the source of information was personal, when their resilience–personal competence was high, and when their Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score was low. Interventions targeting parents of patients with T1DM should be performed with positive information on how to overcome diabetes in their children, increase resilience–personal competence, and increase sleep quality.

SARS-CoV-2 is the third pathogenic coronavirus to emerge since 2000. Experience from prior outbreaks of SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV has demonstrated the importance of both humoral and cellular immunity to clinical outcome, precepts that have been recapitulated for SARS-CoV-2. Despite the unprecedented rapid development and deployment of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, more vaccines are needed to meet global demand and to guard against immune evasion by newly emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants. Here we describe the development of pGO-1002, a novel bi-cistronic synthetic DNA vaccine that encodes consensus sequences of two SARS-CoV-2 antigens, Spike and ORF3a. Mice immunized with pGO-1002 developed humoral and cellular responses to both antigens, including antibodies and capable of neutralizing infection by a clinical SARS-CoV-2 isolate. Rats immunized with pGO-1002 by intradermal (ID) injection followed by application of suction with our GeneDerm device also developed humoral responses that included neutralizing antibodies and RBD-ACE2 blocking antibodies as well as robust cellular responses to both antigens. Significantly, in a Syrian hamster vaccination and challenge model, ID+GeneDerm-assisted vaccination prevented viral replication in the lungs and significantly reduced viral replication in the nares of hamsters challenged with either an ancestral SARS-CoV-2 strain or the B.1.351 (Beta) variant of concern. Furthermore, vaccinated immune sera inhibited virus-mediated cytopathic effects in vitro. These data establish the immunogenicity of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate pGO-1002 which induces potent humoral and cellular responses to the Spike and ORF3a antigens and may provide greater protection against emerging variants.

Bone metabolism: Regulation by brain protein A protein that is highly expressed in brain cells plays a vital role in maintaining balanced energy expenditure and bone health. Recent research indicates that protein activity within brain cells can directly influence energy and bone metabolism. Disruption to these proteins may therefore be associated with obesity and osteoporosis. In experiments on mice, Seok Jun Moon at Yonsei University College of Dentistry in Seoul, South Korea and co-workers found that the protein calsyntenin-3 is expressed at high levels in brain cells. Mice lacking the protein had reduced body mass and growth rate, increased energy expenditure, and lower overall bone mass. This was true regardless of their diet, suggesting they were resistant to diet-induced obesity. The team believe calsyntenin-3 is one of several key brain-based regulators of energy and bone metabolism.

Abstract This study aims to present a comprehensive model that effectively explains dissatisfaction, complaint behavior, and revisiting intentions of hair service consumers through an empirical analysis. In order to empirically verify the conceptual model, a questionnaire was developed based on previous studies and responses that were collected through an online survey agency. Subjects were Korean female consumers in their 20s to 50s who experienced dissatisfaction with hair services in the salons they visited during the past year. The conceptual model suggested in the theoretical research was analyzed empirically through the structural equation modeling (SEM) test and finally suggested after ordering, eliminating unnecessary paths. According to the results, dissatisfaction with the hair service significantly affects the complaint behavior and the revisiting intentions while the complaint behavior has a mediating effect between dissatisfaction and the revisiting intentions. Analysis showed that dissatisfaction with human response services and private complaint behaviors are the factors that most negatively influence revisiting intentions. It was confirmed that businesses should focus on the management of the customer service delivered by the employees and on word of mouth. Public complaint behavior was proven to increase revisiting intentions of consumers, needing more attention. This study aims to provide plausible reasons and objective materials to the establishment of a solid theoretical base for the research on dissatisfaction, complaint behavior, and revisiting intentions of hair service consumers. It is expected that the results of this study will help create differentiated marketing strategies for unsatisfied and complaining consumers.

31. Factors affecting household disaster preparedness in South Korea.

This study examines current household disaster preparedness and identifies its predictors in South Korea. A structured online survey was administered to 1,243 participants quota-sampled by age and population from each administrative district. Based on the socio-ecological model, interpersonal factors (general characteristics, prior disaster experience, anxiety, dispositional optimism, perceived disaster risk, and disaster preparedness knowledge), institutional factor (front-line preparedness), community factor (community resilience), public policy factor (governmental preparedness), and household disaster preparedness were measured. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Bonferroni test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The predictors of household disaster preparedness were occupation, economic status, prior disaster experience, anxiety, disaster preparedness knowledge, front-line preparedness, and community resilience. The most potent predictor of household disaster preparedness was community resilience. Our finding that community resilience, a community factor, has a greater impact on household disaster preparedness than personal factors calls for programs that promote such resilience. Further, continuous public education and campaigns are needed to increase public awareness of household disaster preparedness and to improve the public's competency to prepare for potential disasters. This study raises the need for community programs for residents to increase household disaster preparedness knowledge and improve their competencies related to disaster response. This study is significant in highlighting the importance of community factors in improving household disaster preparedness amid the need to prepare for various types of disasters.

32. Identification of immune-related mechanisms of cetuximab induced skin toxicity in colorectal cancer patients.

Skin rash is a well-known predictive marker of the response to cetuximab (Cmab) in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). However, the mechanism of skin rash development is not well understood. Following exposure to EGFR-targeted therapies, changes in IL-8 levels have been reported. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between skin rash and inflammatory cytokine levels, including IL-8. Between 2014 and 2017, we prospectively enrolled 38 mCRC patients who underwent chemotherapy with either Cmab or bevacizumab (Bmab) at two hospitals. We performed multiplex cytokine ELISA with 20 inflammatory cytokines including E-selectin, GM-CSF, IFN-alpha, IFN-γ, IL-1 alpha, IL-1 beta, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12p70, IL-13, IL-17A, IP-10, MCP-1, MIP-1 alpha, MIP-1 beta, P-selectin, sICAM-1, and TNF-alpha at baseline before cycle 1, 24 h after cycle 1, before cycle 2 (= 14 d), and before cycle 3 (= 28 d). Cytokine levels were compared using ANOVA after log-transformation. IL-8 genotypes in 30 patients treated with Cmab were determined using the polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism technique. Depending on the RAS mutational status, 30 and eight patients were treated with Cmab and Bmab-based chemotherapy, respectively. Skin rash developed in 23 (76.6%) of the 30 patients treated with Cmab plus FOLFIRI, after cycle 1. Only the mean log-transformed serum IL-8 level in patients with skin toxicity was statistically lower (2.83 ± 0.15) than in patients who did not experience skin toxicity (3.65 ± 0.27) and received Bmab (3.10 ± 0.26) (ANOVA test, p value = 0.0341). In addition, IL-8 polymorphism did not affect IL-8 levels, skin toxicity, or tumor response in Cmab treated patients. This study suggests that the inflammatory cytokine levels might be affected by Cmab exposure and are associated with the development of skin rash in mCRC patients. Further studies are warranted to evaluate this interaction in Cmab treated patients.

Summary: Background: axillary lymph nodes dissection (ALND) has been a standard treatment in breast cancer with positive sentinel LNs. However, various short- and long-term postoperative morbidities have been reported after conventional ALND. To define the concept of targeted axillary sampling (AS) and to assess its oncological feasibility for breast cancer. We compared the oncological outcomes in the axillary area between conventional ALND and targeted AS with or without radiotherapy. Methods: One hundred and twenty-nine female patients with cT1-2N1 breast cancer underwent breast and axillary surgery. We defined the concept of targeted AS in clinical and pathological terms, and the oncological outcomes were compared between ALND and AS, and between AS with and without radiotherapy. Results: There were no significant differences in oncological outcomes in the axilla between conventional ALND and AS, or between AS with radiotherapy and AS alone. Conclusions: The 5-year oncological outcomes of targeted AS were not inferior to those of conventional ALND, regardless of whether radiotherapy was added. Background : Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is the most common glomerulopathy in children. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common complication of NS, caused by severe intravascular volume depletion, acute tubular necrosis, interstitial nephritis, or progression of NS. However, the incidence and risk factors of childhood-onset NS in Korea are unclear. Therefore, we studied the incidence, causes, and risk factors of AKI in hospitalized Korean patients with childhood-onset NS. Methods : We conducted a retrospective review of patients with childhood-onset NS who were admitted to our center from January 2015 to July 2017. Patients with decreased renal function or hereditary/secondary NS, as well as those admitted for management of other conditions unrelated to NS, were excluded. Results : During the study period, 65 patients with idiopathic, childhood-onset NS were hospitalized 90 times for management of NS or its complications. Of these 90 cases, 29 met the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes criteria for AKI (32.2%). They developed AKI in association with infection (n = 12), NS aggravation (n = 11), dehydration (n = 3), and intravenous methylprednisolone administration (n = 3). Age ≥ 9 years at admission and combined use of cyclosporine and renin-angiotensin system inhibitors were risk factors for AKI. Conclusion : AKI occurred in one-third of the total hospitalizations related to childhood-onset NS, owing to infection, aggravation of NS, dehydration, and possibly high-dose methylprednisolone treatment. Age at admission and use of nephrotoxic agents were associated with AKI. As the AKI incidence is high, AKI should be considered during management of high-risk patients.

Background: The sensitivity of galactomannan (GM) assay is suboptimal for detecting invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in serum samples. However, the clinical characteristics, radiologic findings, and outcomes in patients with GM-negative IPA have not been fully elucidated. Methods: Over a 7-year period, adult patients with proven or probable IPA by the EORTC/MSG definition were retrospectively enrolled. Patients with negative GM results and positive Aspergillus spp. cultures from sputum or bronchoalveolar lavage were classified into GM-negative IPA group. GM-positive and culture-negative IPA cases were selected at a 1:2 ratio. Results: Thirty-four patients with GM-negative IPA were compared to 68 randomly selected patients from 158 patients with GM-positive and culture-negative IPA. Patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and steroid use were more common but those with hematologic malignancy, prior receipt of mold-active antifungal drugs, and neutropenia were less common in GM-negative IPA than in GM-positive IPA. Regarding radiologic findings, angioinvasive aspergillosis was less common in GM-negative IPA than in GM-positive IPA. The median number of days from diagnosis to appropriate antifungal therapy was higher in GM-negative IPA than in GM-positive IPA. Multivariate analysis indicated that neutropenia (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.10) and prior receipt of mold-active antifungal drugs (aOR, 0.12) were inversely associated with GM-negative IPA. The 30-day and 90-day mortality were similar between the two groups. Conclusion: Neutropenia and prior receipt of mold-active antifungal drugs before GM assay were independently associated with GM positivity among patients with proven/probable IPA. Purpose To evaluate the effect of portal hypertension on the tumor recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and without hepatic decompression following radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Materials and Methods Treatment-naïve HCC patients within the Milan criteria and with Child-Pugh class A were included in this study, who had performed RFA in our hospital between January 2010 and March 2017. Univariate and multivariate analyses using the Cox proportional hazard model were performed to find the predictors of local or distant tumor recurrence. Results Overall, 178 patients were included in this study. Median follow-up period was 40.2 months. The difference in the local tumor progression rates depending on the absence or presence of portal hypertension was not statistically significant (p = 0.195). The 1-, 3-, and 5-year distant intrahepatic tumor spread rates were 6.6%, 29.5%, and 537% in patients without portal hypertension, and 23.4%, 51.9%, and 63.6% in patients with portal hypertension, respectively. The difference was statistically significant (p = 0.011). Univariate and multivariate analysis showed that portal hypertension was an independent predictor for distant intrahepatic tumor spread (p = 0.008). Conclusion For HCC patients with Child-Pugh class A, portal hypertension adversely affected distant intrahepatic tumor progression.

Ureteropelvic junction obstruction is one of the common causes of hydronephrosis in infancy and childhood. Most cases of ureteropelvic junction obstruction are diagnosed prenatally and are usually asymptomatic. Although less common, older children can experience ureteropelvic junction obstruction that presents with symptoms including flank or abdominal pain. Here, we present the case of a nine-year-old healthy girl who had repeated flank pain and abdominal symptoms, with mild left hydronephrosis, for several months. Computed tomography that was performed during the period of acute flank pain revealed aggravated hydronephrosis on her left kidney, which was secondary to an ureteropelvic junction obstruction. She underwent laparoscopic pyeloplasty, and a crossing vessel that passed the ureteropelvic junction was identified. In addition, we reviewed the current literature of this rare entity.

Background/AimsThe annual risk of transformation of non-hypervascular magnetic resonance (MR) hepatobiliary phase imaging (HBPI) hypointense nodules into hypervascular hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) was evaluated.Methods : Cirrhotic patients with non-hypervascular HBPI hypointense nodules were retrospectively analyzed if they were diagnosed as HCC and MR followed up longer than 1 year during the period from January 2010 to October 2016 with regular intervals of 3 to 6 months. Risk factors for transformation into hypervascular HCCs were analyzed using the Cox proportional hazard model.Results : Among the 103 non-hypervascular HBPI hypointense nodules meeting the inclusion criteria, transformation into hypervascular HCCs occurred in 44 tumors (42.7%). The median follow-up period was 24 months. Multivariate analysis revealed that hyperintensity on T2-weighted images (T2WI) and diffusion-weighted images (DWI) were the two independent predictors of transformation into hypervascular HCCs (p=0.036 and p=0.041, respectively). Most tumors with hyperintensity on T2WI or DWI on the initial or follow-up MR were transformed into hypervascular HCCs within the first year. Among the 22 nodules (21.3%) showing a new change in dynamic phases during follow-up, 14 nodules (13.6%) showed malignant transformations.Conclusion : sThe transformation rates of HBPI hypointense nodules into hypervascular HCCs could be predicted according to the initial or serial MRI findings.

Pemphigus vulgaris is an autoimmune bullous disorder characterized by the production of autoantibodies against the intercellular space of the epithelium. It has rarely been reported in association with inflammatory bowel disease. Ulcerative colitis is one of the forms of inflammatory bowel disease. A 62-year-old woman who had been treated for ulcerative colitis for 16 years developed pruritic bullae on the skin of her face and body. Histological findings and direct immunofluorescence examination of the skin showed pemphigus vulgaris. She was treated with systemic steroids, mesalazine, and azathioprine. Her cutaneous lesions have remained in remission and her ulcerative colitis has remained well-controlled. The relationship between pemphigus vulgaris and ulcerative colitis is unclear. An autoimmune response has been suspected in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis. Pemphigus vulgaris is also associated with an autoimmune mechanism. To our knowledge, this is the first case of ulcerative colitis associated with pemphigus vulgaris reported in Korea. The association may be causal.

Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is an emerging technique used to evaluate peripheral lung lesions. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic yield, safety profile, and adequacy of specimens obtained using ENB for molecular testing. This single-center, prospective pilot study recruited patients with peripheral pulmonary nodules that were not suitable for biopsy via percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy methods. The possibility of molecular testing, including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK), and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), was identified with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) tissue obtained using ENB. ENB-guided biopsy was performed on 30 pulmonary nodules in 30 patients. ENB-guided biopsy was successfully performed in 96.6% (29/30) of cases, but one case failed to approach the target lesion. The diagnostic accuracy of ENB-guided biopsy was 68.0% (17/25). Biopsy-related pneumothorax occurred in one patient and there was no major bleeding or deaths related to the procedure. Among 13 patients diagnosed with NSCLC, molecular testing was successfully performed in 92.3% (12/13). ENB-guided biopsy demonstrated acceptable accuracy and excellent sample adequacy, with a high possibility of achieving molecular testing and a good safety profile to evaluate peripheral pulmonary nodules, even when the percutaneous approach was difficult and/or dangerous.

Purpose: To determine prognostic factors for the development of liver abscess formation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) focusing on the history of multiple prior sessions of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). Materials and Methods: Patients were included if RFA was performed from January 2005 to July 2016 for a single HCC nodule smaller than or equal to 5 cm or up to three nodules with each nodule smaller than or equal to 3 cm. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted and propensity score matching was performed between those without multiple prior sessions of TACE before ablation (Group 1) and those with such a history (Group 2). Results: Overall, 694 patients were included in this study. Liver abscesses were developed in four patients, all in Group 2. After performing 2:1 propensity score matching, 149 and 81 patients were selected for Group 1 and 2, respectively. Among these matched patients, rates of liver abscess development were 0% and 5.1% in Group 1 and 2, respectively. The difference in rate of liver abscess development between the two groups was statistically significant (p = 0.014). Conclusion: A history of multiple prior TACE sessions was a potent predictor for liver abscess formation in patients with HCC after performing RFA.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the independent predictive factors for local tumor progression (LTP) of colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Materials and Methods Patients with CRLM were included in the analysis if nodules were up to five in number, each nodule was ≤ 5 cm, and RFA was performed in our center from January 2006 to December 2015. Univariate and multivariate analyses to identify the predictors of LTP were performed by using a Cox proportional hazard model. Results Overall, 58 tumors from 38 patients were included in this study. LTP occurred in 14 tumors from 9 patients. The overall 1- and 3-year LTP rates were 23.5% and 29.4%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that tumor size > 2 cm and insufficient ablative margin were two independently significant adverse prognostic factors for LTP (p = 0.045 and 0.022, respectively). The 3-year LTP rates for 33 and 25 tumors with and without sufficient ablative margin were 4.5% and 61.2%, respectively. The difference was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The difference in the 3-year LTP rates according to the tumor size was not statistically significant (p = 0.791). Conclusion Insufficient ablative margin seems to be the most potent predictor of LTP after RFA of CRLM.

Purple urine bag syndrome (PUBS) is a rare clinical condition that occurs in older women with a long-term urinary catheterization. Other risk factors include alkaline urine, constipation, renal disease, and immobility. It presents as purple discoloration of the urine bag and tubing and is a mixture of pigment that becomes purple. Patient with PUBS usually do not complain of any symptoms. The clinical course is generally benign, and intensive treatment is not usually needed. But awareness of this syndrome is necessary for doctor and nurse in geriatric hospital so as to adequately treat urinary tract infection and explain the clinical process to a caregiver. We present 2 cases of PUBS in a geriatric hospital.

46. Participation in Prenatal Education, Knowledge and Attitude related to Delivery, Postpartum Care, Newborn Care in Nulliparous Women

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify content of prenatal education and to examine differences in prenatal education, knowledge, and attitude of nulliparous South Korean women. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey design was used with 134 conveniently recruited nulliparous women. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires. RESULTS: Average number of institutional prenatal education programs was 5.96 at clinics, 4.31 at health care centers, and 0.49 at hospitals. Women participated in an average 5.78 out of the 35 prenatal education contents: 15 types of prenatal and delivery, 10 postpartum self-care, and 10 parenting. Score for knowledge was 7.57out of 10. Women who participated in prenatal education (n=72) reported significantly higher scores in knowledge (t=2.71, p=.008) than women who did not participate (n=62). The average score for attitude was 7.22 out of 10. Nulliparous women over 36 weeks of gestational age had significantly higher scores for attitude (t=2.38, p=.019) than women under 36 weeks. There were significant positive correlations between newborn care knowledge and postpartum care self-efficacy (r=.26, p=.026), and newborn care knowledge and parenting confidence (r=.25, p=.034). CONCLUSION: Results indicate that policy is needed to increase participation in prenatal education and to establish strategies for health care centers and hospitals to provide prenatal education.

Pilomatricoma is a benign tumor of subcutaneous tissue that arises from hair follicle matrix cells and is usually asymptomatic. Several clinical reports of pilomatricoma have been published in Korean radiology, dermatology, and pathology literature. However, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no Korean case reports of pilomatricoma mimicking male breast cancer. We report a case of pilomatricoma presenting as an exophytic palpable mass in the left breast of an adult male.

48. Lipid Composition of Latex and Rubber Particles in Hevea brasiliensis and Taraxacum kok-saghyz

Natural rubber is usually synthesized in the rubber particles present in the latex of rubber-producing plants such as the Pará rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) and rubber dandelion (Taraxacum kok-saghyz). Since the detailed lipid compositions of fresh latex and rubber particles of the plants are poorly known, the present study reports detailed compound lipid composition, focusing on phospholipids and galactolipids in the latex and rubber particles of the plants. In the fresh latex and rubber particles of both plants, phospholipids were much more dominant (85–99%) compared to galactolipids. Among the nine classes of phospholipids, phosphatidylcholines (PCs) were most abundant, at ~80%, in both plants. Among PCs, PC (36:4) and PC (34:2) were most abundant in the rubber tree and rubber dandelion, respectively. Two classes of galactolipids, monogalactosyl diacylglycerol and digalactosyl diacylglycerol, were detected as 12% and 1%, respectively, of total compound lipids in rubber tree, whereas their percentages in the rubber dandelion were negligible (< 1%). Overall, the compound lipid composition differed only slightly between the fresh latex and the rubber particles of both rubber plants. These results provide fundamental data on the lipid composition of rubber particles in two rubber-producing plants, which can serve as a basis for artificial rubber particle production in the future.

49. An Immune–Magnetophoretic Device for the Selective and Precise Enrichment of Circulating Tumor Cells from Whole Blood

Here, we validated the clinical utility of our previously developed microfluidic device, GenoCTC, which is based on bottom magnetophoresis, for the isolation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from patient whole blood. GenoCTC allowed 90% purity, 77% separation rate, and 80% recovery of circulating tumor cells at a 90 μL/min flow rate when tested on blood spiked with epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-positive Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 (MCF7) cells. Clinical studies were performed using blood samples from non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Varying numbers (2 to 114) of CTCs were found in each NSCLC patient, and serial assessment of CTCs showed that the CTC count correlated with the clinical progression of the disease. The applicability of GenoCTC to different cell surface biomarkers was also validated in a cholangiocarcinoma patient using anti-EPCAM, anti-vimentin, or anti-tyrosine protein kinase MET (c-MET) antibodies. After EPCAM-, vimentin-, or c-MET-positive cells were isolated, CTCs were identified and enumerated by immunocytochemistry using anti-cytokeratin 18 (CK18) and anti-CD45 antibodies. Furthermore, we checked the protein expression of PDL1 and c-MET in CTCs. A study in a cholangiocarcinoma patient showed that the number of CTCs varied depending on the biomarker used, indicating the importance of using multiple biomarkers for CTC isolation and enumeration.

50. Factors associated with ever-use of e-cigarette among college students in the Republic of Korea

Background Since e-cigarette was introduced into the global market, its use has become popular especially among young adults. But little is known about the prevalence and associated factors of e-cigarette use among young adults in Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors associated with ever-use of e-cigarette among Korean college students. Methods A survey to collect the data for this study was distributed to 550 students in 5 universities in S city and K city from October to December 2016. Data from the survey which consists of self-reporting questionnaires were analyzed using binary logistic regression analysis. Ever-use of e-cigarette was assessed by asking "Have you ever used an e-cigarette?" (yes/no). The final sample for this study (n=399) included those who had ever heard of e-cigarette. Results Among 399 students who had ever heard of e-cigarette, 68(17%) were e-cigarette ever-users. E-cigarette ever-use was higher among male students(OR=6.82, 95% CI=2.02, 23.02, p < 0.05), students living in dormitory(OR=10.19, 95% CI=1.16, 89.49, p < 0.05), whose father is a smoker(OR=58.41, 95% CI=8.70, 392.39, p < .001), who have the experience of past 2-week binge drinking(OR=43.78, 95% CI=5.61, 341.93, p < .001) and past 30-day cigarette smoking(OR=1.02, 95% CI=1.01, 1.03, p < .001). Conclusions This study showed significant association between e-cigarette ever-use and gender, residence type, father's smoking status, past 2-week binge drinking and past 30-day cigarette smoking. Associated factors of e-cigarette use should be considered for smoking prevention program for college students. To better understand the patterns and determinants of e-cigarette use among young adults in Korea, further studies are needed.
