Computer Science - Cryptography and Security ,68 - Abstract
Intrusion detection is a traditional practice of security experts, however, there are several issues which still need to be tackled. Therefore, in this paper, after highlighting these issues, we present an architecture for a hybrid Intrusion Detection System (IDS) for an adaptive and incremental detection of both known and unknown attacks. The IDS is composed of supervised and unsupervised modules, namely, a Deep Neural Network (DNN) and the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm, respectively. The proposed system is near-autonomous since the intervention of the expert is minimized through the active learning (AL) approach. A query strategy for the labeling process is presented, it aims at teaching the supervised module to detect unknown attacks and improve the detection of the already-known attacks. This teaching is achieved through sliding windows (SW) in an incremental fashion where the DNN is retrained when the data is available over time, thus rendering the IDS adaptive to cope with the evolutionary aspect of the network traffic. A set of experiments was conducted on the CICIDS2017 dataset in order to evaluate the performance of the IDS, promising results were obtained., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 32 references, conference

This article presents a diachronic study of evolution along the coastline of Noirmoutier Island in France, a sandy shore particularly susceptible to erosion and submersion risks, which are exacerbated by climate change due to two-thirds of its territory being below sea level. The study is based on an analysis of aerial images covering a period of 72 years, divided into five distinct periods: 1950–1974, 1974–1992, 1992–2000, 2000–2010, and 2010–2022. The methodology used combines two complementary approaches: the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) for taking linear measurements of the erosion and accretion that have taken place along various shorelines, and the surface method to evaluate the amount of surface lost or gained between different shorelines while calculating the uncertainties associated with the obtained results. The overall trend observed between 1950 and 2022 indicates that the Noirmoutier coastline studied has gained surface area (81 hectares) at an average rate of +0.57 ± 0.06 m per year. The article then presents an application of the method developed by Durand and Heurtefeux in 2006 to estimate the future position of the shoreline. A map of the local area is also provided, identifying the areas susceptible to coastal erosion by 2052 and by 2122, in accordance with the provisions of the Climate and Resilience Law adopted in France on 22 August 2021. The results reveal that there are many sources of uncertainty in predicting the future evolution of the shoreline using this methodology. Therefore, it is crucial to consider these uncertainties when planning future coastal management actions and adopting appropriate adaptation methods to counteract unforeseen developments.

Soil nutrient cycling, the distribution of soil aggregates, and their stability are directly influenced by soil texture. Different sizes of soil aggregates provide microhabitats for microorganisms and therefore influence soil carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) mineralization. The purpose of the present study was to assess the aggregate stability and dynamics of carbon and nitrogen in macroaggregate size fractions (1-8 mm) with different clay content from meadow soils. Surface soil samples (0-15 cm) were collected from 4- to 5-year-old forage crops. Four macroaggregate size classes were isolated by dry sieving and analyzed for their mass proportions: fine macroaggregates (FM) (less than 1 mm), medium-fine macroaggregates (MFM) (1-2 mm), medium-coarse macroaggregates (MCM) (2-4 mm), and large-coarse macroaggregates (LCM) (4-8 mm). The dry mean weight diameter (MWD), organic carbon (OC), total nitrogen (TN), carbon and nitrogen of microbial biomass (C-MB, N-MB) were determined. CO2 emission and net nitrogen mineralized (NM) were measured after 14 weeks of incubation. The amounts of FM were significantly lower than those of intermediate macroaggregates (MCM and MFM) and decreased markedly with increasing clay content within soil macroaggregates. In general, the amounts of macroaggregate size fractions were lowest in soils with high clay content. MWD exhibited a significant correlation with particle size distribution, OC, and MB-C. OC, TN, MB-C, and MB-N contents within macroaggregates increased with decreasing macroaggregate size and increasing clay content of macroaggregate fractions. The CO2 emission and NM content increased with increasing macroaggregate size, indicating higher organic C and N mineralization activity in larger macroaggregates. Mineralization of OC was lowest in macroaggregate fractions with the highest clay content. We conclude that clay content can increase the protection of microbial biomass in meadow soils. Small macroaggregates tend to contain more recalcitrant organic matter compared to larger macroaggregates.

Automated segmentation of diseases considered a necessary initial step in routine diagnosis. Lung diseases that affect the lungs, such as pneumonia or lung collapse can result in areas of consolidation or atelectasis, where lung tissue becomes denser or collapses. It can be challenging to accurately segment such areas, as they may exhibit similar characteristics to adjacent structures. This study proposes a lung CT image segmentation method which includes two steps: (1) a new image enhancement model that uses the bounded turning Mittag-Leffler function to improve the CT images for better segmentation outcomes. (2) a new modified VGG-16 for infection of lung segmentation based on expanding the original VGG-16 network. The dilated convolutional layers are added to the original VGG-16 network to create a new lung CT image segmentation method. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can accurately segment the infected region in lung CT scans. The results led to Accuracy, Dice Coefficient and Jaccard Index values of 96.3%, 91.2%, and 82.3% respectively. The proposed method is accurate and suitable for implementation in real-world applications. Following result computation, seven related studies are compared with the recommended methodology. This demonstrated how well this study had performed in comparison to many earlier studies. Despite the fact that segmenting lung CT images requires a lot of work. Obtaining a suitable level of accuracy was quite difficult.

Language and Literature - Abstract
Abstract: The present study investigates the integration of video projects into the English curriculum for engineering students at the École Nationale Polytechnique (ENP), aiming to enhance students' language skills, particularly in speaking, and improve their motivation and collaborative learning. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to collect both quantitative and qualitative data from 53 students aged between 19 and 23, selected via convenience sampling. The participants, who had varying levels of proficiency in English and experience with video-making tools, completed a video project as part of their English language assessment. Data collection was conducted through a structured questionnaire that included Likert-scale items and open-ended questions to assess students' motivation, language confidence, and perceived improvement in speaking skills, alongside the challenges encountered. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, such as measures of central tendency and variability, to summarize students’ experiences. Inferential statistics, specifically t-tests, were applied to explore differences in responses based on prior language proficiency and familiarity with video production tools. Qualitative data were subjected to thematic analysis to identify recurring themes such as "technical challenges," "collaborative experiences," and "language improvement." The findings revealed that while students generally perceived an improvement in their speaking abilities and valued the collaborative aspect of the project, they faced significant technical challenges, particularly with video editing. The results also highlighted that students with prior experience in video-making encountered fewer technical difficulties, suggesting a need for more technical support and training. The study recommends the incorporation of digital literacy into the curriculum to ease the learning curve for future projects. Additionally, formative feedback methods, such as peer and teacher feedback, are suggested to enhance students' progress throughout the project phases. In the context of Algeria’s evolving educational landscape, where traditional grammar-based instruction is prevalent, this study underscores the potential of project-based learning in fostering active language use and digital proficiency, aligning with broader educational reform goals. By addressing both technical and linguistic challenges, such integrative approaches can lead to more meaningful learning experiences and better prepare students for professional environments requiring both language and technical competencies. This study investigated the frequency, risk factors, and metabolic indicators for detecting subclinical ketosis (SCK) in Ouled Djellal ewes. Out of 54 enrolled ewes, those with BHB ≥ 0.86 mmol·L-1 without clinical signs formed the SCK group, while ewes with BHB < 0.86 mmol·L-1 were healthy controls, either in late pregnancy or early lactation. The SCK frequency was higher in early lactation (37%). Increased risk was associated with twin–bearing (OR=4.96, 95%CI=1.967–12.503, P=0.001) and thin ewes with BCS < 2.5 (OR=2.74, 95%CI=0.71–10.73, P=0.003). SCK ewes had significantly lower glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, Ca, Mg, Na, and K levels, but higher AST, ALT, GGT, ALP, LDH, and CK levels. The best diagnostic indicators were Ca (AUC 94.4%, cut–off < 81 g·L-1, SE 77.46%, SP 100%), AST (AUC 84.4%, cut–off > 94.19 U·L-1, SE 74.65%, SP 83.78%), and K (AUC 79.3%, cut–off 4.1 mmol·L-1, SE 71.83%, SP 75.68%). Monitoring BHB and BCS, especially in twin–bearing ewes during the transition period, is recommended for ketosis prevention. Further large–scale validation of these metabolic indicators as SCK predictors in Ouled Djellal ewes is warranted.

Summary: Human genetic studies of critical COVID-19 pneumonia have revealed the essential role of type I interferon-dependent innate immunity to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conversely, an association between the HLA-B∗15:01 allele and asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated individuals was recently reported, suggesting a contribution of pre-existing T cell-dependent adaptive immunity. We report a lack of association of classical HLA alleles, including HLA-B∗15:01, with pre-omicron asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in unvaccinated participants in a prospective population-based study in the United States (191 asymptomatic vs. 945 symptomatic COVID-19 cases). Moreover, we found no such association in the international COVID Human Genetic Effort cohort (206 asymptomatic vs. 574 mild or moderate COVID-19 cases and 1,625 severe or critical COVID-19 cases). Finally, in the Human Challenge Characterisation study, the three HLA-B∗15:01 individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 developed symptoms. As with other acute primary infections studied, no classical HLA alleles favoring an asymptomatic course of SARS-CoV-2 infection were identified.

Computer Science - Computer Science and Game Theory ,Mathematics - Probability - Abstract
To predict the behavior of a population game when time becomes very long, the process that characterizes the evolution of our game dynamics must be reversible. Known games satisfying this are 2 strategy games as well as potential games with an exponential protocol. We will try to extend the study of infinite horizons for what are called symetric strategy games.

This research had an interest in the conduct of teaching literature in EFL Algerian contexts. It seeks to explore language skills involved in teaching the subject of literature; it investigates theoretical perspectives and approaches related to teaching literature; and it also aims at establishing the connection between the practice of teaching literature and the practice of writing to respond to literature in an Algerian EFL context of teaching. This research follows ten university lecturers' teaching through a qualitative interpretative exploration involving semi-structured interviews, lesson observations and students' essay analyses. Data were spread throughout a three-staged cycle of data collection-collecting interviews, moving forward to classroom observations, and then collecting exam essays. This cycle corresponds to a similar data analysis process -analysing semi-structured interview data, analysing classroom observation data, and then analysing exam essays (literary responses). NVivo software was used during the first two stages of data analyses (interviews and observations) to help code data and organise major themes for analyses. Then, data from the two first stages were used in concord with data from essays to analyse the latter inductively. This research revealed that teaching literature in the Algerian EFL context is not theory but practice-based teaching. It demonstrated that lecturers do not usually project a personalized theoretical underpinning to their teaching conduct; instead, their teaching corresponds to contextual, institutional, and students-related aspects, such as English language level, course requirements and institutional regulations. Furthermore, this research indicated that the practice of teaching literature appears as a single teaching orientation, which corresponds to literary-focused teaching. However, this orientation signifies three teaching focuses: lecturer-led, students-led, or shared teaching. These focuses of teaching, then, adopt multiple delivery approaches, which vary depending on every teaching situation. Finally, language skills, within delivery approaches, are used depending on their usefulness, applicability, and contribution to the overall delivery approach. In addition, this study's findings establish that exam essays, which represent literary responses, or literary essays, have no presence in teaching literature. These writings receive minimum consideration during the practice of teaching, but they acquire major significance for lecturers and the subject of literature, as they represent the assessment and evaluation method for most literature teaching contexts. This research then describes that lecturers have some requirements for literary essays, which are not directly taught in practice. These requirements fall under either literary or language-focused aspects. Lecturers' requirements, which are embedded in essays' assessment, then, signify that the language-focused orientation of literature teaching, mostly, appears through the aspect of writing.

Abstract Assessing the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG positivity through population-based serological surveys is crucial for monitoring COVID-19 vaccination efforts. In this study, we evaluated SARS-CoV-2 IgG positivity within a provincial cohort to understand the magnitude of the humoral response against the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and to inform evidence-based public health decisions. A community-based cross-sectional seroprevalence study was conducted, involving 10,669 participants who received various vaccines (two doses for BBIBP-CorV/Sinopharm, Covishield vaccine, and Pfizer/BioNTech, and one dose for Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 vaccine). The study spanned 16 provinces in the Casablanca-Settat region from February to June 2022, during which comprehensive demographic and comorbidity data were collected. We screened samples for the presence of IgG antibodies using the SARS-CoV-2 IgG II Quant assay, which quantifies antibodies against the receptor-binding domain (RBD) of the spike (S) protein, measured on the Abbott Architect i2000SR. The overall crude seroprevalence was 96% (95% CI: 95.6–96.3%), and after adjustment for assay performance, it was estimated as 96.2% (95% CI: 95.7–96.6). The adjusted overall seroprevalences according to vaccine brands showed no significant difference (96% for BBIBP-CorV/Sinopharm, 97% for ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/Oxford/AstraZeneca, 98.5% for BNT162b2/Pfizer-BioNTech, and 98% for Janssen) (p = 0.099). Participants of older age, female sex, those with a history of previous COVID-19 infection, and those with certain chronic diseases were more likely to be seropositive among ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/Oxford/AstraZeneca and BBIBP-CorV/Sinopharm vaccinee groups. Median RBD antibody concentrations were 2355 AU/mL, 3714 AU/mL, 5838 AU/mL, and 2495 AU/mL, respectively, after two doses of BBIBP-CorV/Sinopharm, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/Oxford/AstraZeneca, BNT162b2/Pfizer-BioNTech, and after one dose of Janssen (p 0.05). In conclusion, our serosurvey findings indicate that all four investigated vaccines provide a robust humoral immune response in the majority of participants (more than 96% of participants had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2). The BNT162b2 vaccine was found to be effective in eliciting a strong humoral response compared to the other three vaccines. However, challenges still remain in examining the dynamics and durability of immunoprotection in the Moroccan context.

Mechanical engineering and machinery ,TJ1-1570 - Abstract
This work presents a study of wear on the clearance face of turning tools. This study will contribute to the development of improved machining precision and efficiency while extending tool life and also ensuring the surface quality produced, despite wear and edge deposition phenomena. A tool flank wear model is developed as a function of the cutting conditions, including the cutting speed, depth of cut, feed rate, and machining time. Factors influencing tool clearance face wear are determined through experimental testing. We also investigate the edge phenomenon reported on the tool cutting face by plotting a curve of the edge variation versus the machining time. Tool wear and built-up edge phenomena both affect the quality of the surface finish produced. Additionally, the edge phenomenon degrades the geometric quality of the tool and generates wear on the tool clearance face. Therefore, models are developed to aid in selection of appropriate cutting conditions that ensure the expected surface finish is realized while also providing control over tool wear. Overall, this method combines experimental and theoretical approaches to study and control turning tool wear with the aim of improving both machining quality and efficiency.

The term "Power-to-X" (PtX) refers to a set of techniques for converting electrical energy into another form of energy, primarily focusing on hydrogen production. Produced hydrogen can be stored, distributed, and then used directly (to regenerate electricity, generate heat, or in transportation, steel, and chemical industries) or indirectly to produce ammonia, fertilizers, methane, methanol, e-fuels, and more. Thus, PtX is a mean of storing intermittent energy and a key contributor to the energy transition and decarbonization. In this article, we examine a grid-connected green hydrogen production system. This 1 MW renewable capacity system consists of a 300 kW wind turbine, a 700 kW photovoltaic field, and a 209 kW electrolyzer. In this system, any excess energy is integrated into the grid, enhancing overall energy sustainability. Conversely, when energy output is insufficient for the electrolyzer, the deficit is sourced from the grid, ensuring continuous and reliable operation. This dynamic interaction with the grid optimizes energy usage and reinforces the stability of the system. The results show an annual hydrogen production of about 16 tons, renewable energy production of approximately 1.9 GWh/year, a 20.85% capacity factor, a shortage of about 144.5 MWh, and an energy excess of about 824 MWh.

Epidemiologists have used the timing of the peak of an epidemic to guide public health interventions. By determining the expected peak time, they can allocate resources effectively and implement measures such as quarantine, vaccination, and treatment at the right time to mitigate the spread of the disease. The peak time also provides valuable information for those modeling the spread of the epidemic and making predictions about its future trajectory. In this study, we analyze the time needed for an epidemic to reach its peak by presenting a straightforward analytical expression. Utilizing two epidemiological models, the first is a generalized $ SEIR $ model with two classes of latent individuals, while the second incorporates a continuous age structure for latent infections. We confirm the conjecture that the peak occurs at approximately $ T\sim(\ln N)/\lambda $, where $ N $ is the population size and $ \lambda $ is the largest eigenvalue of the linearized system in the first model or the unique positive root of the characteristic equation in the second model. Our analytical results are compared to numerical solutions and shown to be in good agreement.

Classifying social media (SM) messages into relevant or irrelevant categories is challenging due to data sparsity, imbalance, and ambiguity. This study aims to improve Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) by enhancing short text classification of traffic-related SM data. Deep learning methods such as RNNs, CNNs, and BERT are effective at capturing context, but they can be computationally expensive, struggle with very short texts, and perform poorly with rare words. On the other hand, transfer learning leverages pre-trained knowledge but may be biased towards the pre-training domain. To address these challenges, we propose DLCTC, a novel system combining character-level, word-level, and context features with BiLSTM and TextCNN-based attention. By utilizing external knowledge, DLCTC ensures an accurate understanding of concepts and abbreviations in traffic-related short texts. BiLSTM captures context and term correlations; TextCNN captures local patterns. Multi-level attention focuses on important features across character, word, and concept levels. Experimental studies demonstrate DLCTC’s effectiveness over well-known short-text classification approaches based on CNN, RNN, and BERT.

- Abstract
This study aims to describe the relationships between child-internal and child-external factors and the consonant accuracy of bilingual children. More specifically, the study looks at internal factors: expressive and receptive vocabulary, and external factors: language exposure and language status, of a group of 4-year-old bilingual Arabic-French children. We measured the consonant accuracy of the children by the percentage of correct consonants in a Picture-Naming Task and a Non-Word Repetition Task in each language. The results suggest a significant relationship between vocabulary and consonant accuracy. A cross-language correlation was observed between the expressive vocabulary level of the majority language (French) and the consonant accuracy of the minority language (Arabic). Also, a significant correlation was found between Arabic language exposure and Arabic consonant accuracy. Finally, consonant accuracy was significantly higher in French tasks than in Arabic, despite the individual differences of the children.
