The aeromagnetic anomalies existing in the Deng Deng – Garga Sarali region in Eastern Cameroon were filtered for a structural study of the region’s subsoil. This study presents the results of lineaments and fractures extracted by aeromagnetic image processing methods and compared with scientific data to obtain potential terrain models in the study area. The methodological approach used is based on the filtering of aeromagnetic image by using the analytical signal, the Euler deconvolution, and 2D3/4 modeling, to establish the maps of the lineaments and faults of the study area and their characteristics, and also to propose three models from three previously chosen profiles. Analytical signal and Euler deconvolution techniques have been applied to aeromagnetic anomalies to highlight the relationship between the depth and the source of magnetic anomalies, two parameters whose importance in geoexploration and modeling of the body is essential. We identified the potential contacts by interpretation of the deep Euler anomalies, these are highlighted on the basis of a certain similarity between the maps of the total magnetic field, the map of the analytical signal, the map of the maxima of the gradient horizontal, and geological map. Euler’s map of solutions correlates well with the edges of certain superficial and deep causative bodies.

Study region: Yoyo river basin, Méiganga, Adamawa region, Cameroon. Study focus: The study aimed firstly to delineate and classify groundwater prospective zones in granito-gneissic terrain using advanced applications of remote sensing and geographical information systems through the integration of analytical hierarchy process (AHP), frequency ratio (FR) and Shannon entropy (SE). Secondly to compare the performance of these models to ensure effectiveness in computation. Thirteen groundwater influencing factors were adopted and weights were assigned to each thematic layer based on their relationship and characteristic with groundwater occurrence. Overlay weighted linear combination analysis tool in Arcgis environment was applied for groundwater prospect maps constructed. New hydrological insights for the region: Groundwater maps was classified into four categories:I poor, moderate, good and excellent. These maps analysis revealed that AHP have performed well for good and excellent classes with percentage of coved area of 23.73% and 23.75% respectively. These areas are localised in central, south-eastern, north-western and southern parts of the basin. Validation of outputs maps using wells location showed that AHP have higher accuracy (Kappa= 79.53%, AUC (predicted) = 82.40%, AUC (success) = 87.09%), compared to FR (Kappa= 74.62%, AUC (predicted) = 76.68%, AUC (success) = 77.21%) and to SE (Kappa= 77.75%, AUC (predicted) = 70.61.40%, AUC (success) = 75.78%). These results are reliable and useful for various decision-making processes and sustainable management of groundwater resources in the Yoyo river basin.

The aim of this study is to investigate crustal structures from East Cameroon, using aeromagnetic data. The modeling of aeromagnetic data is conducted using the Oasis Montaj 8.0 software. The total magnetic intensity map reduced to the equator (RTE-TMI) shows important anomalies features, namely, the Northern East magnetic anomalies of high amplitude, the Southwest where very low values of the magnetic intensity were observed, and a corridor with negative values relatively high, separating the anomalies. The horizontal gradient map shows on the one hand brittle and folded structures carried out in the area of study and on the other hand various rectilinear, narrow, and short-wave anomalies that can be classified as a family of little faults. The maxima observed on the RTE-TMI maps are correlated to intrabasement contacts; and the map derived from Euler’s solutions permitted to evaluate the depth of the geological accidents observed from the other filters. This map also reveals new faults with a depth greater than 5000 m. The lineaments identified in the Southwestern part could be linked to the Pan-African orogeny and seem to correspond to deep-seated basement structures, which are referred to the tectonic boundary between Congo Craton and the Pan-African orogeny belt. A 23/4-D modeling confirmed the observations derived from the RTE-TMI and HGM maps analyses. It shows intrusive bodies composed of gneiss and porphyroid granite and some domes with their roof situated at various depths not exceeding 1800 m from the surface. The structural map of the study area shows the trending of the structural features observed, namely, NE-SW, NW-SE, ENE-WSW, and WNW-ESE, respectively, while the E-W and N-S are secondary orientation of the observed tectonic evidence. Moreover, circular anomalies observed over the area are assimilated to intrusions of high magnetic materials or to granitic domes.

The present study attempts to combine direct current and induced polarization methods for 3D geological modelling and preliminary volume estimation of gold mineralization targets in the Simi locality, Adamawa, Cameroon. To begin, resistivity and chargeability data were collected along seven profiles oriented in N150E using the electrical tomography technique. A geological investigation was also carried out and allowed in addition to the geological formations to highlight the existence of gold mineralization in the study area. The interpretation of the inversion results was done by taking into consideration the geological field data and the existing resistivity charts. The 3D distribution of the interpreted sections allowed us to make a horizontal correlation between the different sections and to elaborate the 3D geological model of the study area by using the deterministic inverse distance method. The estimated model indicates a volume of 621,130.625 m3 of the possible gold complex. The gold complex was then divided into two mineralization domains based on chargeability ranges (mV/V): A first domain is associated with a major mineralization zone (39–60 mV/V) with a volume of 10,842 m3, and a second domain is associated with secondary mineralization zone (18–39 mV/V) with a volume of 610,288 m3. New geological and structural facts have been identified under the auriferous lateritic cover in Garga Sarali, Ndokayo area. Data were collected using AMT receiver system with frequencies ranging from 20 Hz to 50000 Hz. It consists of 16 AMT stations along 03 profiles, over Pan-African formations of East Cameroon. The wide frequency range enabled us to probe deep into the subsurface to obtain necessary information. Using Imagem software, coherency of data has been evaluated and only the data with a coherency below or equal to 0.7 have been considered. Two programs were used to map the subsurface. The pseudosections were obtained using IPI2WIN-MT, while geoelectrical sections were obtained using Stratagem Resistivity Plotter. Analysis of the curves of dimensionality tests shows that there is not always a complete superposition between the two telluric directions, translating the fact that the variation of the resistivity is not 1D, but rather 2D or 3D. Major features of 2D resistivity model from the respective profiles were identified. These features include a set of lower resistive formations going from the surface to 1000 m depth, lying on a set of resistive formations that appears at the surface and below the lower resistive formations. However, a very conductive layer was observed in depth in the three profiles. These facts show that the study area is made up of mixture of both conductive and resistive materials, suggesting a prolongation of the overlap between the Congo Craton and the Pan-African in depth to the north and the location of the CC/Pan-African limit above 4°N parallel accordingly. Deeper electrical discontinuities, interpreted as faults following a NE-SW trend, were highlighted. All these new data suggest that the study area underwent an intense tectonic activity with ductile to brittle deformations due to the presence of the BOSZ.

Exploration and production of groundwater, a vital and precious resource, is a challenging task in hard rock, which exhibits inherent heterogeneity. A geophysical survey was conducted in Méiganga, Mbéré department, in the Adamawa region, Cameroon. High-resolution electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and self-potential (SP) dataset were collected in a gneissic terrain to solve the groundwater problem as people are facing acute shortage of drinking water in the study area. The analysis and interpretations based on resistivity models revealed substantial resistivity contrast between the altered gneiss that might contain water and massive gneiss and delineated five deeper groundwater prospects zones located at Yelwa, Ngoa-Ekélé, Sabongari, Ngassiri, and Gbakoungué, respectively. In the Pitoa-Figuil area (Northern Cameroon), an interpretation of aeromagnetic data was conducted. The aim of this investigation was first to emphasize lineaments hidden under geological formations and secondly to propose two 2.75D models of the subsurface structures. Different magnetic data processing techniques were used, notably horizontal gradient magnitude, analytic signal, and Euler deconvolution. These techniques in combination with the 2.75D modelling to the aeromagnetic anomaly reduced to the equator permit to understand the stratification of the deep and near surface structures, which are sources of the observed anomalies. This study combines the finite element approach and the spectral analysis of Fourier's function, to investigate the eastern Cameroon and western Central African Republic. In this area, the signature of the gravity anomalies seems to correspond to the transition zone between the Congo Craton and the Panafrican Mobile Belt. Thus, a gravity interpretation based on the data obtained from four N-S profiles on the residual map is carried out using a 2.5D model. The residual anomaly map is obtained by using the finite element method (FEM) for data filtering. Spectral analysis is used to estimate the depth of the sources responsible of the observed anomalies. Our results demonstrated that the observed gravity anomalies in the region are associated with tectonic subsurface structures. This study suggests that the transition area, which comprises the northern margin of the Congo Craton (CC) and the southern border of the Mobile Zone of Central Africa (MZCA) known as the Pan-African Belt (area covering the geological Congo Craton limit (GCCL)), is a product of convergent collision. This collision has caused considerable over-thrusting of the Pan-African Belt (PAB) units onto the Congo Craton. The models suggest the intrusion of magmatic rocks during the continental collision, which were later metamorphosed into granulites along and around the northern margin of the Congo Craton. The presence of deep granulite structures in the northern margin of the CC expresses a continental collision. Some sediment formations appear in the Central African Republic with variable thicknesses. The granulites (deeper parts of PAB) observed might come from the uprising of some materials of the upper mantle probably during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. The probable geophysical limit of the CC in the upper crust is suggested on this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
