To a large extent, environmental sustainability of biofuel production systems is determined with life­cycle assessments, corresponding to the processing steps of supply chains considering environmental effects such as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or air pollutants. However, local/regional environmental impacts require additional site­specific and flexible options for the assessment of environmental and other aspects of sustainability such as criteria and indicators (C&I) on water use or biodiversity in bioenergy certification schemes. Against the background of the planned inclusion of solid biofuels in the EU Renewable Energy Directive (EU RED), sets of C&I from bioenergy certification schemes are tested. Do they provide a representative and balanced overview of the environmental impacts of solid biomass production? The current set­up of many certification schemes is mostly based on feasible but less on reliable indicators, typically focusing on land management indicators and less on more reliable biophysical parameters. Continuous scaling of Cu interconnect structures can significantly impact reliability-limiting processes such as electromigration and stress-induced voiding. Prior to the 65 nm technology node, mass transport under electromigration is dominated by diffusion along the Cu/dielectric cap interface and the electromigration lifetime will degrade by about half for every generation, even with the same current density. Beyond the 65 nm node, small grains were found to mix with bamboo grains in the 90 nm Cu damascene lines and the contribution of the grain boundary transport degraded the electromigration lifetime. The scaling effects on microstructure and electromigration reliability are examined in this paper with the objective of identifying the key issues and exploring potential solutions for sub-100 nm Cu interconnects. We discuss first the scaling effect on electromigration lifetime and the effect due to the small grains on electromigration lifetime and statistics. This is followed by a discussion on grain growth studies focusing on the formation of small grains and a recent simulation study on small grain effect on electromigration reliability. This paper concludes with a discussion of some recent developments in analytical techniques to investigate grain structure and electromigration reliability in sub-100 nm Cu lines.

Kultureller Wandel ist im Rahmen einer sich beschleunigenden Modernisierung eine zentrale Herausforderung für die Allgemeine Didaktik. Das neue Interesse an Kultur kann im didaktischen Diskurs als Reflexion der Problematik von Ungewißheit und Kontingenz verstanden werden und findet in schulischen und erziehungswissenschaftlichen Kontexten seine Ausformungen als Schulkultur und Unterrichtskultur. Die zunehmende Europäisierung und Globalisierung von Bildungsdiskursen, die erlebte kulturelle Vielfalt innerhalb der zusehends multikulturell geprägten Klassen und Kurse in deutschen Schulen sind Rahmungen, die den in der Allgemeinen Didaktik eher randständigen Kulturbegriff ins Zentrum der Diskussion rücken. Unter den Prämissen reflexiver Modernisierung und aktiver und passiver Beteiligung für Lehrende und Lernende an kulturellen Umbrüchen im Bildungswesen verstehen die Autoren den Kulturbegriff und seine Ausformungen als Schulkultur, Unterrichtskultur, Berufskultur in der Lehrerschaft etc. in einem weiten und umfassenden Sinne. Kultur wird dabei nicht als Gegenbegriff zu Gesellschaft verstanden, sondern als ein auf Kultur hin angelegter Zugang der Didaktik zu Schule und Unterricht. Schule, Unterricht und auch Konzepte von Allgemeinbildung sind Kulturprodukte, die an die nachwachsende Generation herangetragen werden. So, wie es keine Sicherheit über den Ausgang von Bildungsprozessen geben kann, so ungewiß ist es, ob die zur Zeit gültigen Kulturprodukte die Herausforderungen von Europäisierung, Globalisierung und Modernisierung produktiv aufnehmen können. Es wird eine zentrale Aufgabe der Didaktik bleiben, die Problematik von Ungewißheit und Kontingenz einerseits in Bildungsprozessen von Kindern und Jugendlichen aufzuspüren und andererseits didaktische Forschungen mit Bezug auf sozialwissenschaftliche Theorien zu konzipieren und die Ergebnisse im Rahmen der Lehrerbildung zu verwenden.
