The tetracyanamidometallates Li4[T(CN2)4] with T=Si, Ge were prepared by solid‐state metathesis (SSM) reactions between TI4 and Li2(CN2). The new compounds Li4[T(CN2)4] are obtained as crystalline phases in high yields and represent the most basic examples of the family of tetracyanamidometallates. The formation of these compounds, via SiI4 and Li2(CN2), is analyzed by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The [Si(CN2)4]4− ion in the structure of Li4[Si(CN2)4] can be considered an analogue to the [SiO4]4− ion in Li4SiO4. The crystal structures of Li4[T(CN2)4] were solved and refined isotypically on the basis of single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction data in the space group C2/c, and further characterized by infrared and solid‐state NMR techniques. The new heteroleptic tungsten iodide cluster compound [W6I12(NCC6H5)2] is presented. The synthesis is carried‐out from Cs2W6I14 and ZnI2 under solvothermal conditions in benzonitrile solution, yielding red cube‐shaped crystals. [W6I12(NCC6H5)2] represents a heteroleptic [W6I8]‐type cluster bearing four apical iodides and two benzonitrile ligands. Molecular [W6I12(NCC6H5)2] clusters form a robust hydrogen bridged crystal structure with high thermal stability and high resistibility against hydrolysis. The electronic structure is analyzed by quantum chemical methods of the calculated electron localization function (ELF) and the band structure. Photoluminescence measurements are performed to verify and describe the photophysical properties of [W6I12(NCC6H5)2]. Finally, the photocatalytic properties of [W6I12(NCC6H5)2] are evaluated as a proof‐of‐concept. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The discovery of melamine by Justus von Liebig was fundamental for the development of several fields of chemistry. The vast majority of compounds with melamine or melamine derivatives appear as adducts. Herein, we focus on the development of novel compounds containing anionic melamine species, namely the melaminates. For this purpose, we analyze the reaction of SbCl3 with melamine by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The whole study includes the synthesis and characterization of three antimony compounds that are obtained during the deprotonation process of melamine to melaminate with the reaction sequence from SbCl4(C9N18H19) (1) via (SbCl4(C6N12H13))2 (2) to SbCl(C3N6H4) (3). Compounds are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The results give an insight into the mechanism of deprotonation of melamine, with the replacement of one, two, or eventually three hydrogen atoms from the three amino groups of melamine. The structure of (3) suggests that metal melaminates are likely to form supramolecular structures or metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solvated tungsten iodide cluster compounds are presented with the homoleptic cluster cation [(W6I8)(CH3CN)6]4+ and the heteroleptic [(W6I8)I(CH3CN)5]3+, synthesized from W6I22 in acetonitrile. Crystal structures were solved and refined on deep red single-crystals of [(W6I8)(CH3CN)6](I3)(BF4)3·H2O, [(W6I8)I(CH3CN)5](I3)2(BF4), and on a yellow single-crystal of [W6I8(CH3CN)6](BF4)4·2(CH3CN) on the basis of X-ray diffraction data. The structure of the homoleptic [(W6I8)(CH3CN)6]4+ cluster is based on the octahedral [W6I8]4+ tungsten iodide cluster core, coordinated by six apical acetonitrile ligands. The electron localisation function of [(W6I8)(CH3CN)6]4+ is calculated and solid-state photoluminescence and its temperature depedence are reported. Additionally, photoluminescence and transient absorption measurements in acetonitrile are shown. Results of the obtained data are compared to compounds containing [(M6I8)I6]2− and [(M6I8)L6]2− (M = Mo or W; L = ligand) clusters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
