Este artículo examina la locución faltar un hervor a algo o a alguien como instanciación del esquema de imagen de la carencia. Dentro del marco teórico de la Lingüística Cognitiva, se estudia el fenómeno a partir de la teoría de la metáfora, la metonimia y la integración conceptual para describir los mecanismos creativos que intervienen en la producción y la comprensión de tal formulación. Sobre la base de un corpus de enunciados efectivos, se realiza un análisis cualitativo que permite describir los modelos cognitivos que sustentan esta expresión: (i) el modelo del desarrollo pendiente, para marcar inmadurez, y (ii) el modelo del desarrollo inacabado, para sugerir falta de inteligencia. El análisis se extiende a otras formulaciones como le falta un jugador que muestran construcciones similares sobre el modelo del todo incompleto, empleado para insinuar incapacidad. Finalmente se caracteriza el valor retórico de estas expresiones con especial atención a la tensión existente entre eufemismo y lítote.

No presente artigo, apresentamos estudo que buscou compreender a conceptualização do feminino nos gêneros musicais do funk e do samba cariocas à luz da Teoria da Metáfora Conceptual (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 2002 [1980]). Para tanto, com base em metodologia de caráter qualiquantitativo, analisou-se, incialmente, o léxico relativo ao feminino em 100 canções pertencente ao funk carioca, produzidas por Anitta, Dennis DJ, Lexa, Ludmilla e Pocah no período de 2017 a 2021. Em seguida, para confirmação da prevalência da metonímia conceptual MULHER É BUNDA encontrada nas 100 canções pertencentes ao funk carioca, investigou-se o mencionado léxico em 100 canções do samba carioca, produzidas por Dudu Nobre, Mart'nália, Mumuzinho, Dilsinho e Martinho da Vila, no período de 2018 a 2022.Os dados indicaram a relevância da metonímia PARTE E TODO na conceptualização de feminino em ambas as canções, tendo em vista que: o item lexical ‘bunda’ obteve média de 13,56 ocorrências contra uma média de 1,95 – mão e cara - nas 100 canções pertencentes ao funk carioca; ‘boca’ e ‘coração’ obtiveram 56 e 54 ocorrências respectivamente contra 12 ocorrências de ‘mão’, 06 de ‘pé’, 04 de ‘peito’ e ‘rosto’, 03 de ‘braço’ e 02 de ‘cabelo’ e ‘língua’ nas 100 canções pertencentes ao samba carioca. Além disso, foi observada a relevância das metáforas conceptuais MULHER É ÁGUA, MULHER É DIA, MULHER É SOL e MULHER É FLOR nas cem canções pertencentes ao samba carioca. Concluiu-se que o conjunto de valores e crenças - hegemônico ou não - é relevante para estruturação do conceito de feminino no âmbito da sociedade carioca, já que foi possível observar, de um lado, a influência da nova moralidade advinda do culto ao corpo idealizado (GOLDENBERG, 2002) na emergência da metonímia conceptual MULHER É BUNDA encontrada nas 100 canções analisadas do funk carioca; e, de outro lado, a influência de valores da cultura afro-brasileira motivando as metáforas conceptuais MULHER É ÁGUA, MULHER É DIA, MULHER É SOL e MULHER É FLOR.

Este artigo discute as diferentes construções de sentidos para ‘corpo de mulher’, a partir da análise de três letras de forró, de intérpretes diferentes: “Cintura fina”, “Morena Tropicana” and “Mulher Madura”. Para tanto, utilizamos os estudos da Linguística Cognitiva, especificamente as investigações sobre metáfora, metonímia e modelos culturais, com base nas investigações de Lakoff e Johnson (1980), Feltes (2018), Kovecses (2004; 2005), Shanghai (2009) e Teixeira (2001). Como resultado, verificamos que os diferentes conceitos revelados nas letras das canções de forró referem metonimicamente partes da mulher para significar o todo e que as metáforas utilizadas convergem para modelos culturais marcados por características machistas e de subordinação feminina.

This study examines cultural conceptualizations related to the lexeme ló 'horse' using the conceptual metaphor theory of cognitive linguistics and the theoretical framework of Cultural Linguistics (Sharifian, 2011, 2017). The aim of the study is to explore metaphors and metonymies based on the lexeme 'horse' and to demonstrate their embedding in Hungarian cultural traditions. The data utilized in the analysis is derived from the Dictionary of the Hungarian Language and other phraseology collections. Occasionally, examples from the Hungarian National Text Corpus are used to provide context or clarification. The results indicate that the SIZE and STRENGTH of the HORSE are significant source domains in non-human (external) extensions, often used to denote the SIZE of plants and other animals. The concept of STRENGTH and SPEED associated with the horse traditionally originates from its important role in transportation. HORSEBACK RIDING signifies POWER and SUPERIORITY applied to interpersonal relationships, additionally, it is linked to describe MENTAL STATES or ACTIONS, namely, stubborn or habitual behaviour. HORSE and HORSE RIDING are also connected to the conceptualizations of OPPORTUNITY, PROFIT, and SUCCESS, and as a VALUABLE ANIMAL, the horse serves as an experiential basis for other VALUABLE THINGS. The conceptualization of HORSE AS A RANK appears in various contexts, such as the knightly title from the Middle Ages, which indicated a person's commitment to religion, homeland, and the protection of women, also representing social status. Finally, the HORSE AS A MAGICAL ENTITY is linked to beliefs of SHAMANISM and WITCHCRAFT. Based on these observations, the cultural conceptualizations of HORSE are unequivocally positive, originating from the fact that it provided advantages and special abilities to its rider or owner in many areas of life in the past. En este trabajo indagamos qué procesos metonímicos actúan en el funcionamiento de determinantes definidos e indefinidos del español y cómo la conceptualización de los sistemas de determinación nominal puede verse beneficiada si se incorpora a las descripciones pedagógicas la toma de conciencia de los vínculos metonímicos entre los diferentes valores de las formas y construcciones estudiadas. Abordaremos la distinción entre valores de generalización (Un médico debe ser empático), valores inespecíficos (Necesitamos un médico) y valores específicos (Pediré cita a un médico que me recomendaron) de artículos y otros determinantes cuantificadores, así como la interpretación cuantificativa de determinantes definidos, como en No sabes los amigos que tiene Laura, en el sentido de ‘No sabes cuántos amigos tiene Laura’. El uso de notaciones icónicas propias de la Gramática Cognitiva, así como de conceptos tales como la distinción perfil/base, entre otros, permitirá integrar la metonimia en el marco de la noción de estructuración conceptual (construal), propia del modelo de la Gramática Cognitiva. En cuanto a la aplicación didáctica, valoraremos las ventajas de la aproximación cognitiva en combinación con distintos tipos de ejercicios y estrategias de conceptualización en las tareas de presentación y práctica de diferentes determinantes.

En el quechua Ayacucho-Chanca, los términos corpóreos evocan distintos dominios o marcos conceptuales. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en esclarecer la naturaleza del comportamiento polisémico de dichos términos corpóreos. Teóricamente se parte de un conjunto de principios que rigen el fenómeno de la polisemia en el marco de la lingüística cognitiva. Metodológicamente, la data ha sido obtenida a partir de un proceso de elicitación. Los resultados permiten reafirmar la metáfora y la metonimia como procedimientos necesarios, pero (a la vez) insuficientes para explicar la generación de nuevos sentidos. La explicación requiere también de un proceso interaccional.

Resumo A ausência de pesquisas sobre a bissexualidade no século XX somada às preocupações em torno da epidemia da AIDS possibilitou a construção de narrativas especulativas sobre a população bissexual, sendo comumente descrita como uma categoria ambígua. Mediante uma análise antropológica, propõe-se refletir sobre os complexos simbólicos que produzem a bissexualidade como uma categoria ambígua, relacionando-a com a produção discursiva sobre as ficções de contágios, essencialmente metonímicas.

Neste artigo, desejamos examinar três partes de obras pertencentes à literatura agrária latina. Essas obras são o canto II das Geórgicas de Virgílio, o livro X do De re rustica de Columela e o livro XV de Opus agriculturae de Rutílio Paládio. De fato, esses autores, retrospectivamente considerados, não apenas citam uns aos outros, mas ainda adotam procedimentos compositivos semelhantes. Em geral, as partes das obras de Virgílio, Columela e Paládio que comentaremos são poéticas e concedem vivacidade a temas botânicos, notoriamente, por meio de reiterados empregos do mito, da animalização ou da atribuição de “humanidade” às plantas. Então, tecem uma rede em que técnicas de escrita similares não se dão de forma isolada, mas coexistem dentro de uma tradição.

RESUMO Este artigo busca refletir sobre o funcionamento de uma das técnicas retóricas usadas em discursos: as figuras. A abordagem será feita com base em mortes provocadas por Covid-19 no Brasil. Para isso, consideram-se como corpus de estudo duas capas de jornais brasileiros, o carioca O Globo e o paulistano Folha de S. Paulo, mais especificamente as edições que registram quando o país ultrapassou as 100 mil e as 200 mil mortes pelo coronavírus. O objetivo é mostrar o papel argumentativo que a metonímia e a repetição imprimem aos textos em questão. Essas figuras foram relevantes para a composição das duas capas. A de O Globo utiliza fotos de várias pessoas que morreram por causa da doença. A da Folha de S. Paulo reproduziu calçados usados por algumas das vítimas. A análise se fundamenta em pressupostos teóricos de estudiosos da Retórica e da Nova Retórica, especialmente no que diz respeito às figuras retóricas.

This paper analyses what kinds of metonymy are implied in the usage of definite and indefinite determiners in Spanish. It also assesses how can the conceptualization of determiners systems be improved by developing learners’ awareness of metonymic links between the different values of these forms and the constructions they take part in. The distinction between generic references values (Un médico debe ser empático ‘A doctor must be empathic’), non-specific values (Necesitamos un médico ‘We need a doctor’) and specific values (Pediré cita a un médico que me recomendaron ‘I will request an appointment for a doctor that was recommended to me) of articles and some quantifiers will be discussed, as well as the quantifying interpretation of definite determiners in cases such as ¡No sabes los amigos que tiene Laura! ‘You don’t know the friends Laura has’, meaning ‘You don’t know (you can’t imagine) how many friends Laura has’. The use of the typical iconic notations of Cognitive Grammar (Langacker), and likewise of others theoretical tools of this model such as the profile/base alignment, among others, will allow to consider metonymy as a kind of construal. Regarding the didactic application, we will explore the advantages of the cognitive approach combined with a variety of exercises and conceptualization strategies in tasks of presentation and practice of different determiners. Abstract: In the last decades there has been a proliferation of studies investigating metaphors and metonymies, as they are defined in the Conceptual Metaphor Theory. Recently, increasing attention has been paid to multimodal metaphors and metonymies and to their persuasive role in both commercial and social advertisements. In this paper we analyze Soviet anti-alcohol posters published during the Gorbačëv’s anti-alcohol campaign (1985-1988), and we investigate the role of a central pictorial element, i.e. the bottle, that metonymically gives access to the concepts of alcohol or alcoholism. In anti-alcohol posters of the ‘80s, the bottle’s metonymic image often interacts with other metaphorical processes. In particular, we focus on the interactions between the metonymies triggered by both pictorial and verbal use of the bottle (bottle metonymies) and the process of (de)personification undergone in these specific contexts. In some posters, the bottle is personified to convey the message that alcohol can damage people’s private lives by substituting for their loved ones and taking their rightful place. In some other posters, a human alcoholic is represented as a bottle, showing that alcoholism makes people lose their human features. The interactions between the metonymic image of the bottle and (de)personification processes play a central role in Soviet anti-alcohol posters and aim to demonstrate the destructive effects of alcohol abuse on drinkers’ private and social life. Resumo: Nas últimas décadas, houve uma proliferação de estudos relativos à metáfora e à metonímia, segundo a definição da Teoria da Metáfora Conceitual. Recentemente, uma crescente atenção tem vindo a ser dedicada às metáforas e metonímias multimodais e ao papel persuasivo que desempenham na publicidade comercial e social. Neste trabalho, analisamos os cartazes soviéticos antialcoolismo publicados durante a campanha de propaganda de Gorbačëv contra o consumo de bebidas alcoólicas (1985-1988). De modo particular, interessa-nos o papel central de um elemento pictórico, a garrafa, metonímia que se traduz como os conceitos de alcool ou alcoolismo. Nos cartazes anti-alcoolismo dos anos oitenta, a imagem metonímica da garrafa entra frequentemente em interação com outros processos metafóricos. Nosso estudo vai precisamente focalizar a interação entre as metonimias desencadeadas por meio do uso pictório e/ou verbal da garrafa e o processo de (des)personalização ocorrido nesses contextos específicos. Alguns cartazes apresentam a garrafa como personificação para transmitir a mensagem de que o alcool é prejudicial para a vida privada dos indivíduos, pois pode manifestar-se enquanto um substituto dos entes queridos e levar às ações que independem da vontade do sujeito. Outros cartazes mostram a pessoa alcoolizada representada enquanto uma garrafa, para demonstrar que o alcoolismo destrói características humanas. A interação entre a imagem metonímica da garrafa e os processos de (des)personificação desempenha um papel primordial nos cartazes antialcoolismo soviéticos e visa representar os efeitos negativos do abuso de álcool na vida privada e social dos indivíduos. En los últimos años la literatura sobre el cruce léxico ha experimentado un incremento espectacular (Renner, Maniez y Arnaud, 2012; Renner, 2015; Correia Saavedra, 2016; Balteiro y Bauer, 2019; Wulff y Gries, 2019). Este estudio basado en corpus proporciona un análisis cualitativo de las denominadas formas truncadas - partes de palabras que no son morfemas que proceden de la segmentación de ítems léxicos que se usan repetidamente en la creación de nuevos cruces léxicos como si fueran afijos - desde el punto de vista de la Lingüística Cognitiva. Más concretamente, se ofrece un análisis detallado de un corpus de 200 formas truncadas (el SplinterCorpus) recopiladas de obras previas (Warren, 1990; Lehrer, 1998, 2007; Renner, 2007; Correia Saavedra, 2016) y del diccionario en línea de Cambridge en el que se hace uso de los últimos avances en modelación cognitiva, especialmente de la noción de 'operación cognitiva' (Ruiz de Mendoza, 2020; Ruiz de Mendoza y Galera, 2014). Si bien algunas formas truncadas conservan el significado de la palabra fuente de la que proceden, otras lo reinterpretan (Bauer, Beliaeva y Tarasova, 2019; Mattiello, 2019). Nos centramos en este segundo grupo y ofrecemos una explicación de la motivación que subyace al cambio semántico experimentado por el significado de estas formas truncadas en términos de las operaciones cognitivas de expansión y reducción. This two-part paper bridges insights from psycholinguistics and from theoretical and computational lexicography to develop a fine-grained classification of polysemy organized along a wider spectrum of sense remoteness of ambiguous words in Polish based on the investigation of a large collection of linguistic data. In the second part, we show that polysemy is not a stable phenomenon and relations between senses may differ across language users. For instance, our fifty-fifty class or borderline cases may be represented differently by different language users depending on their perception of the world, world knowledge, associations. We point to some parameters of variation in the class of polysemy by metonymy and polysemy by metaphor which may affect their sense remoteness and consequently also the way they are represented in the mental lexicon. This paper re-examines the expressions síis k‘ab (cold hand) and chokoj k‘ab (hot hand) frequently mentioned in ethnographic descriptions of the hot-cold system among the Mayan-speaking population of the Yucatán peninsula. Using a linguistic-cognitive approach that integrates contextual information, the internal structure and semantic content of the expressions under study are explored. The analysis of the data obtained during fieldwork in the eastern part of the state of Yuestudios catan allows us to draw two main conclusions: the first is that síis k‘ab and chokoj k‘ab constitute metonymies of the hand, and the second is that the metonymic use of this part of the body constitutes the basis of the metaphors k‘ulu‘ k‘ab (raccoon hand) and sayab k‘ab (spring hand), whose analysis complements the present study. In addition, the connection between the identified metonymies and metaphors and a set of activities that to this day play a fundamental role in the daily life of Maya communities is outlined. Thus, the study contributes to broaden our understanding of metonymic and metaphoric patterns and processes in Yucatec Maya as well as of the local hot-cold system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El presente artículo aborda los aspectos semánticos involucrados en la configuración de la gastronomía de Aurahuá-Chupamarca (distritos de la provincia de Castrovirreyna, departamento de Huancavelica). Se identifican las motivaciones semántico-culturales que subyacen a las expresiones lingüísticas referidas a las entidades gastronómicas, las cuales se corresponden notoriamente con mecanismos metonímicos. El estudio se sustenta en los principios teóricos y metodológicos de la lingüística cognitiva (Lakoff y Johnson, 1980; Lakoff, 1987; Langacker, 1987; Ibarretxe-Antuñano y Valenzuela, 2012; Evans y Green, 2006, entre otros). Las metonimias evidencian el modo en que los quechuahablantes categorizan las referidas entidades gastronómicas. Se describe y explica el modo en que son asociadas las formas lingüísticas a la culinaria quechua.

Resumo: O objetivo deste artigo é o exame crítico da persuasão implícita e sua ocorrência em memes multimodais que circulam pelo Facebook, tendo como foco a relação entre metonímia e metáfora. A persuasão tende a ser altamente implícita e a evitar a linguagem atitudinal normalmente associada ao significado interpessoal, dependendo em grande parte do frame, ou seja, do sistema de valores compartilhados. Esse é o fenômeno que caracteriza a metonímia, um tropo que, sendo indicial, informa somente parte da mensagem, dependendo do receptor para a complementação da informação. Nesse sentido, tem sido aceito que as metáforas conceituais podem ser casos especiais da interação conceitual com a metonímia, a qual propicia a contiguidade entre o texto e o frame do leitor. Com base nessa relação, o meme, apesar de sua diminuta extensão, pode promover a persuasão do leitor. A pesquisa tem o apoio da Gramática Visual Sociossemiótica e da Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional e responde às seguintes perguntas: (a) Como é feita a persuasão implícita em memes verbo-visuais? (b) Qual é o papel da metonímia e da metáfora nesse processo? (c) Como pode a Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional por meio da transitividade e da avaliatividade contribuir no processo persuasivo dos memes? Os resultados mostram que a persuasão implícita em memes é feita graças a escolhas lexicogramaticais, as metonimizações, motivadas pela metáfora conceptual, que não só permeia e domina todo o meme, mas também forma a espinha dorsal da sua estrutura argumentativa. Abstract: The objective of this paper is to critically examine implicit persuasion and its occurrence in multimodal memes circulating on Facebook, focusing on the metaphor-metonymy relationship. Persuasion tends to occur mostly implicitly, avoiding evaluative language related with interpersonal meanings. Thus it depends on notions such as frame, which allows addressees to infer hidden message contents. This phenomenon commonly occurs in metonymies, tropes that for being indexical inform only part of reality, and depend on the receiver for the complementation of the information they carry. In this sense, the idea that conceptual metaphors can be special cases of their conceptual interaction with metonymies that provide contiguity between the text and the reader’s frame has been accepted. On the basis of this relationship, memes, despite their small extent, can promote persuasion. The research is based on Sociosemiotic Visual Grammar and Systemic-Functional Linguistics and answers the following questions: (a) How does implicit persuasion occur in verb-visual memes? (b) What is the role of metonymies and metaphors in such process? (c) How can Systemic Functional Linguistics by means of transitivity and appraisal contribute to the persuasive process of memes? The results show that the implicit persuasion in memes is made thanks to lexicogramatical choices, metonymizations, motivated by conceptual metaphors, which not only permeates and dominates the whole meme, but also forms the backbone of its argumentative structure. Este artigo propõe uma discussão teórica acerca do papel assumido pelo processo metonímico no contexto da cognição humana na construção conceitual de categorias ordinárias. Todo debate foi construído com o intuito de ratificar o argumento construído pelos estudiosos no âmago da Linguística Cognitiva, a saber, que a metonímia, além de ser um processo básico da categorização humana, é fundamental e imprescindível na criação de categorias. Logo, pautado em uma metodologia bibliográfica, com um corpus constituído por expressões corriqueiras, chegamos à conclusão de que o processo metonímico tem seu valor subestimado pelo fato de ser confundida com outro importante processo cognitivo, a metáfora

The article is devoted to the feasibility of distinction between metonymy and metaphor; since ancient times, language researchers have studied them together because they are based on the transfer of names by similarity or analogy of features. The main task of the article is to outline the dominant theories of metonymy and metaphor, developed in the plane of the semantic-syntactic paradigm, as well as to present cognitively oriented considerations about the essence of these two phenomena, which prove their distinction. Based on the basic postulates of cognitive linguistics, particularly the theory of conceptual metaphor, the theory of mental spaces, and the theory of conceptual integration, the authors prove a significant difference between the two outlined linguocognitive mechanisms. Based on phraseological units of modern French, the authors prove, first, that metonymy represents a real adjacency of concepts, while metaphor - hypothetical. Secondly, their difference lies in the different number of conceptual spheres involved in metonymization (one conceptosphere) and metaphorization (more than two conceptospheres). Thirdly, in metaphorization, projected images reflect various (sometimes unexpected) associations that link different spheres of GOAL and SOURCE, while in metonymization, projected images adhere to logically established connections. In the last decades there has been a proliferation of studies investigating metaphors and metonymies, as they are defined in the Conceptual Metaphor Theory. Recently, increasing attention has been paid to multimodal metaphors and metonymies and to their persuasive role in both commercial and social advertisements. In this paper we analyze Soviet anti-alcohol posters published during the Gorbačëv's anti-alcohol campaign (1985-1988), and we investigate the role of a central pictorial element, i.e. the bottle, that metonymically gives access to the concepts of alcohol or alcoholism. In anti-alcohol posters of the '80s, the bottle's metonymic image often interacts with other metaphorical processes. In particular, we focus on the interactions between the metonymies triggered by both pictorial and verbal use of the bottle (bottle metonymies) and the process of (de)personification undergone in these specific contexts. In some posters, the bottle is personified to convey the message that alcohol can damage people's private lives by substituting for their loved ones and taking their rightful place. In some other posters, a human alcoholic is represented as a bottle, showing that alcoholism makes people lose their human features. The interactions between the metonymic image of the bottle and (de)personification processes play a central role in Soviet anti-alcohol posters and aim to demonstrate the destructive effects of alcohol abuse on drinkers' private and social life. The article analyzes the evolution of the verbs "disfrutar" and "gozar" in medieval Spanish. These verbs have undergone semantic and syntactic changes over time. In the medieval period, "disfrutar" was used to refer to the gathering of fruits from the land, while "gozar" was associated with experiencing pleasure. However, both verbs have acquired a sense of possession through a process of gradual convergence. The study is based on the analysis of metaphors, metonymies, and horizontal relationships in linguistic change. [Extracted from the article]

The lack of consensus in the delimitation of the chengyu category consists in the fact that it is a group of concise expressions, in fixed format and of ancient provenience, conserved until today but distinctive from the Spanish idioms. Due to its wide use in Chinese, this work chooses examples extracted from Shanhai Jing (in English: The Classic of Mountains and Seas) as the object of analysis and studies the classification of metonymy in them from two perspectives. Before the emergence of the cognitive paradigm, the studies of these idiomatic expressions were limited to a descriptive level, but the appearance and development of Cognitive Linguistics allow us to explain them more deeply. Todo discurso tiene un propósito comunicativo. En el género periodístico de los tabloides, la noticia trata de impactar al lector con titulares llamativos sobre cualquier tema de interés; esto se puede observar en los titulares de uno de los diarios más vendidos del Perú: Trome, tabloide que destaca por sus titulares llamativos, debido al uso de fraseología con sentido metafórico. En esta investigación se describen las metáforas conceptuales de los titulares del diario Trome y se focaliza en la descripción una forma prototípica: el caos y uno de sus efectos: el castigo. Los datos recopilados corresponden a los años 2010, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 y 2019, y fueron tomados de su versión digital.

Analisa-se, neste trabalho, o papel de metonímias e metáforas na organização conceptual de uma das interações do Banco de dados interacionais (RONCARATI, 1996), com vistas a descrever (i) as funções das metonímias com base em Littlemore (2015) e (ii) a relação entre as metonímias e as metáforas propostas. Além da função basilar da metonímia, no âmbito da Linguística Cognitiva, como processo cognitivo em que uma entidade dirige a atenção, ou dá acesso mental, à outra entidade, postulou-se as seguintes funções mais recorrentes na interação: (i) base para destaques e conceptualização (construal); (ii) referência anafórica, coesão e coerência; (iii) referência exofórica; (iv) construção e estabelecimento de relações entre comunidades discursivas; (v) avaliação; e (vi) humor. A partir dessas funções metonímicas, buscou-se aventar um papel basilar das metonímias em relação às metáforas, por meio dos elementos dos MCIs ativados para construção de sentidos e dos elementos do cenário destacados nas expressões metafonímicas.

Celem artykułu jest analiza metonimicznych użyć onimu Bruksela w dyskursie prasowym. Materiał badawczy składa się z około 350 pochodnych użyć nazwy własnej Bruksela wyekscerpowanych z tekstów zamieszczonych w tygodniku „Polityka” w okresie od 1 stycznia do 5 listopada 2019 roku. Metonimie zostały opisane za pomocą formuły: X (nośnik) za Y (cel). Wykazano, iż wtórne użycia nazwy własnej Bruksela służą profilowaniu treści uzależnionych od potrzeb komunikacyjnych. W artykule przedstawiono takie profile, jak: instytucja (Unia Europejska), społeczeństwo (zarząd Unii Europejskiej oraz rząd Brukseli) i wydarzenie (wygrana w wyborach do europarlamentu).

The article proposes an analysis of the outstanding rhetorical resources in two series of images published during the crisis that took place in Washington at the end of Donald Trump's presidency and on the eve of Joseph Biden's inauguration. In this context, I postulate a complementary distribution of visual metonymies and metaphors. While metonymy prevails when showing the seizure of the Capitol, metaphors are the most used resource when it comes to presenting the restoration of order. Some of the photographs that make up the corpus come from the international press, while others circulated in social networks. The proposed analysis employs theoretical and methodological resources from rhetoric, political philosophy, and semiotics to consider rhetorical strategies in the field of political images. La segunda década del siglo XXI ha sido testigo del surgimiento y asentamiento de una serie de movimientos que han derivado en el auge de partidos euroescépticos en países como Francia y Alemania y que han desembocado en la salida del Reino Unido de la Unión Europea. Considerando el contexto político actual y habida cuenta de la carencia de estudios que aborden este objeto de estudio, este artículo analiza el papel de la metáfora y la metonimia en el discurso euroescéptico en francés y español. Para ello, tras presentar los fundamentos teóricos que sustentan esta investigación, se presenta el corpus textual compilado, formado por documentos, programas políticos y manifiestos redactados por una serie de partidos políticos abiertamente euroescépticos de Francia, Suiza y España. A partir de dicho corpus se han analizado las metáforas conceptuales subyacentes, así como las metáforas orientacionales y las metonimias documentadas a partir de las expresiones utilizadas por los distintos emisores. Este estudio concluye que la metáfora es, en el discurso político, un medio eficaz para transmitir un ideario determinado. De esta manera, las metáforas conceptuales más empleadas han sido LA SALIDA DE LA UNIÓN EUROPEA ES UN CAMINO, LA SALIDA DE LA UNIÓN EUROPEA ES UNA LUCHA y LA POLÍTICA ES UNA LUCHA. Asimismo, se concluye que el uso de la metáfora es capaz de modificar la percepción y concepción del ciudadano en lo que respecta a las políticas comunitarias europeas y la Unión Europea.

Este artigo tem como objetivo geral comentar o estatuto do conhecimento da coisa em si na metafísica de Schopenhauer. De modo mais específico, visa analisar como se inserem neste debate, tradicionalmente enfrentado por estudiosos da filosofia schopenhaueriana como Julian Young, Paul Lauxtermann e David Cartwright, duas correntes interpretativas bastante discutidas neste ciclo, principalmente na última década; ambas lidam com o problema da coisa em si a partir de uma interpretação da transição analógica que Schopenhauer empreende do mundo da representação para o da Vontade. Ao disputarem que tipo de conhecimento, metafórico ou metonímico, esse autor pode almejar da coisa em si, é possível apontar como De Cian e Marco Segala, bem como Jorge Prado, por um lado, e Sandra Shapshay, de outro, se distanciam da tradição exegética que lhes antecede; e, mais ainda, em que medida eles são precursores no esforço de apontar uma espécie de “método” específico, alternativo ao método transcendental kantiano, a partir do qual Schopenhauer realizaria sua empreitada metafísica. A fim de situar nossa própria interpretação entre a desses comentadores, focaremos na análise de passagens de O mundo como vontade e como representação e da Crítica da filosofia kantiana, em que Schopenhauer especifica com mais ênfase como deve ser entendida sua abordagem metafísica.

La retorica ha subito innumerevoli cambiamenti che hanno portato la classica “arte del parlare” a un sistematico sfaldamento, dapprima a favore della sola elocutio, poi della lexis poetica, infine della metafora. A risentire maggiormente del nuovo assetto di “riduzione tropologica” è la metonimia, bistrattata e declassata a tropo di second’ordine in confronto alla metafora, in particolare a partire dall’ultimo ventennio del XX secolo, dopo un momento di relativo successo. Negli ultimi quindici anni la comunità scientifica, grazie al cognitivismo e alle neuroscienze, ha iniziato a identificare nella metonimia un ruolo primario nell’ecosistema mentale e addirittura una supremazia a livello bio-evolutivo e neuro-fisiologico, a detrimento della metafora, fenomeno secondario e più slegato dalle sfere esperienziali dell’habitat quotidiano. Il funzionamento del cervello è programmato per utilizzare metonimie sia grazie alla capacità del ragionamento inferenziale, sia grazie al fatto che emozioni e sintomi fisiologici si linkano in una incessante operazione metonimica, in particolare dove gli stimoli condizionati predicono e sussumono le emozioni incondizionate, di fatto facilitando un autocontrollo pulsionale.

Relações culturais estão presentes na língua e podem ser compreendidas por processos metafóricos e metonímicos, que descrevem como o mundo é conceptualizado. Diante dessa relação entre língua e cultura, analisamos 14 sinais da Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras), relacionados à religião. Com base em um estudo qualitativo, os sinais foram coletados do programa “A Vida em Libras”, do Instituto Nacional de Educação – INES. À luz de pressupostos teóricos da Linguística Cognitiva, são tomadas como base as Teorias da Metáfora Conceptual, da Metonímia Conceptual (LAKOFF, JONHSON, 1980) e da Iconicidade Cognitiva (WILCOX, 2004; NUNES, 2014) para análise de sinais da Libras (BRITO, 2010 [1995]). Dentre os sinais religiosos selecionados para estudo, foram observados processos metafóricos e metonímicos na conceptualização proposta. Dessa forma, a análise desses processos linguístico-cognitivos é um caminho nos estudos linguísticos para compreender a produção de sinais em Libras.

Głównym celem dyskusji podjętej w niniejszym artykule jest określenie miejsca, jakie synestezja zajmuje wśród innych środków języka figuratywnego oraz zaprezentowanie różnorodności asocjacji synestezyjnych w prozie Vladimira Nabokova. Jak to zostało dowiedzione, pojęciem kluczowym w zrozumieniu mechanizmu powstawania i funkcjonowania form języka figuratywnego, takich jak synestezja, metafora i metonimia, jest pojęcie konfliktu konceptualnego. Obecność lub brak konfliktu decydują o zakwalifikowaniu danego wyrażenia do kategorii form żywych lub konwencjonalnych oraz do metonimii lub form określanych jako hypallage. Co więcej, różnice między metaforą i metonimią dotyczą sposobu, w jaki formy te ‘radzą sobie’ z konfliktem pojęciowym. Z kolei interpretacja sprzeczności konceptualnej może prowadzić do wyjaśnienia mechanizmu asocjacji synestezyjnych i strategii autorskich. Przykłady wyrażeń synestezyjnych Nabokova świadczą o tym, że synestezja i metonimia mogą wchodzić w interakcje. Warto jednak podkreślić, że w tekście literackim synestezja współistnieje również z takimi formami zawierającym określenia sensoryczne, jak hypallage i porównanie, co zostało wykazane na przykładach z opowiadań i powieści Nabokova.
