The energy systems which consist RES will take a leading place in the energy world in future. From the one side the participation of RES (Renewable Energy Sources) and energy storage devices will increase the flexibility of the energy system and will offer new services at the energy market. From the other the probabilistic work of the RES lead to uncertainty in their production and may cause difficulties in the energy system operation. This two reasons together with the variety of RES and storage opportunities rise the necessity of building reliable algorithms for optimization of their work and their interoperability. Also concerning the future plans for energy systems development all energy systems including electricity, gas, heat, etc. should collaborate each other which increase the complexity of the algorithms for controlling the different systems. Usually, the optimization algorithm is part of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) or MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) systems and they are executed in computers using different types of operation systems. In this article and approach for utilization of programmable logic controller as and algorithms holding devices is proposed. The utilization of the PLCs for such type of tasks will lead to improved performance of the algorithms and will increase the reliability and the speed of the algorithms. As the PLCs are relatively standard devices this will lead also to improved possibility for interoperability between different systems.

The development of the electronic equipment lead to rapid research and development in the field of renewable energy sources (RES) and utilization of renewable energy sources by householders. Usually the RES are part of the house energy system and it is strongly recommended to make integration of RES in the house energy system to be able to have synchronized work with the energy consumers and the other energy systems like heating and cooling, ventilation and water consumption facilities. That is the reason for the strong requirement to have good monitoring of the energy systems in all directions - production, accumulation and energy consumption. The problem in building of effective monitoring is that most of the vendors have their own systems to monitor their equipment and the interoperability between the equipment of different vendor usually is not easy. In this article we suggest a solution for ensuring the systems interoperability with utilization of PLC and SCADA systems based on the industrial protocol Modbus TCP. The proposed method ensure flexibility of the monitoring system and extension of the monitoring with devices of different vendors. An example of the house monitoring based on VICTRON Energy Solar Inverter equipped with battery storage is proposed.

In this article an application for optimization of the energy flows in smart power systems consisting of electric vehicles (EV), distributed energy sources (DER), flexible loads and bidirectional storage is proposed. An optimization model for energy distribution between electric vehicles, electric storage devices and photovoltaic generators is presented. A nonlinear optimization problem with linear constrains for optimizing the power flows in the system is defined and solved. A multi-objective problem is defined in respect to satisfy PV production criteria and to maximize the power flow to the EVs. An algorithm for finding the optimal solution of the multi-objective optimization problem is proposed. The approach is very useful for energy flow control and analyzis of DER behavior. The algorithm proposed for solving multi-objective problem is applicable when a storage and PV generation units are used in the DER system. The advantages of external storage utilization in the distributed systems are shown.

This article presents an approach for flexible loads control in power systems with integration of electric vehicles (EV) and distributed generation for power system regulation. A control system with monitoring and control capabilities is proposed as a possible solution of the main problematic issues related to EV charging. IEC61850 standard is covered for data transfer between local and global monitoring systems. An optimization problem for load shift control depending on technical and market conditions is defined and solved. The approach is widely applicable for various EV charging and distributed energy resources (DER) considering control algorithms, smart charging, EV and DER hosting capacity extension, EV interoperability testing, smart grid power management, monitoring and other power system problems.

This paper presents the main objectives, approach, results and challenges achieved so far of the H2020 project PANTERA (PAN European Technology Energy Research Approach). A special highlight of the work carried out in the Balkan region considering the first PANTERA workshop in Sofia, Bulgaria is given. Based on analysis of the results achieved, the potential for improvements and future steps are elaborated.
