Abstract

Either mono- or dibromination of benzyl methyl ethers is achieved by controlling the amount of NBS and the temperature. The elimination of methyl bromide from the monobrominated intermediates has produced aromatic aldehydes, whereas hydrolysis of the dibrominated intermediates has yielded aromatic methyl esters.

Abstract

The application CpCo(CO).sub.2]-catalyzed diastereoselective [2 + 2 + 2] cycloisomerization of C[H.sub.2]O-substituted optically pure triynes to obtain nonracemic fictionalized helicene-like compounds is reported. The findings provide insight into the origin of the diastereoselectivity of the cyclization and thermodynamic and kinetic factors that control the reaction.

A study is conducted to understand the quantitative relevant energetics of the catalytic reaction of cysteine proteases and the free energy surface for the corresponding reference solution reaction is determined. The calculations involve self-consistent evaluation of the solute charges in solution as \well as mapping the solution free energy surface.
