High-strength lightweight concrete (HSLC) is increasingly in demand for reducing the self-weight of concrete structures, achieved in this study using shale ceramsite aggregate. Despite its potential, HSLC has been underutilized in field projects due to concerns about its strength and long-term stability. This study investigates the impact of shale ceramsite content on the mechanical properties of HSLC through uniaxial compression, flexural, and bending tests. The results reveal that ceramsite content significantly influences the concrete’s mechanical properties and failure mechanisms. An optimal design of HSLC was proposed in this study and further used in a real field highway project, demonstrating its applicability to bridge pavements. Newly developed fiber Bragg grating sensors were installed in the material to monitor the performance of the HSLC. Concrete performance monitoring was conducted using a new type of fiber Bragg grating sensor independently developed by the research team. The results showed that the higher the ceramsite content, the greater the shrinkage deformation. And similarly, the higher the strength, the greater the shrinkage deformation. The outcome of this study would provide an alternative approach for the application of HSLC in civil infrastructures.

Abstract Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20 kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3% at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. (NNVT) and 5000 of dynode PMTs from Hamamatsu Photonics K. K.(HPK).

Solar neutrinos ,Astrophysics ,QB460-466 - Abstract
The physics potential of detecting ^8 B solar neutrinos will be exploited at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), in a model-independent manner by using three distinct channels of the charged current (CC), neutral current (NC), and elastic scattering (ES) interactions. Due to the largest-ever mass of ^13 C nuclei in the liquid scintillator detectors and the expected low background level, ^8 B solar neutrinos are observable in the CC and NC interactions on ^13 C for the first time. By virtue of optimized event selections and muon veto strategies, backgrounds from the accidental coincidence, muon-induced isotopes, and external backgrounds can be greatly suppressed. Excellent signal-to-background ratios can be achieved in the CC, NC, and ES channels to guarantee the observation of the ^8 B solar neutrinos. From the sensitivity studies performed in this work, we show that JUNO, with 10 yr of data, can reach the 1 σ precision levels of 5%, 8%, and 20% for the ^8 B neutrino flux, ${\sin }^{2}{\theta }_{12}$ , and ${\rm{\Delta }}{m}_{21}^{2}$ , respectively. Probing the details of both solar physics and neutrino physics would be unique and helpful. In addition, when combined with the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory measurement, the world's best precision of 3% is expected for the measurement of the ^8 B neutrino flux.

Abstract We study damping signatures at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a medium-baseline reactor neutrino oscillation experiment. These damping signatures are motivated by various new physics models, including quantum decoherence, ν 3 decay, neutrino absorption, and wave packet decoherence. The phenomenological effects of these models can be characterized by exponential damping factors at the probability level. We assess how well JUNO can constrain these damping parameters and how to disentangle these different damping signatures at JUNO. Compared to current experimental limits, JUNO can significantly improve the limits on τ 3/m 3 in the ν 3 decay model, the width of the neutrino wave packet σ x , and the intrinsic relative dispersion of neutrino momentum σ rel.

The low strength caused by the single FCC structure of the CrMnFeCoNi high entropy alloy (HEA) limits its application in the field of coating. Here, we prepared high-entropy alloy coatings of CrMnFeCoNi with different ZrC contents on Q235 steel by a plasma transferred arc process. The effects of ZrC on the microstructure and properties of the CrMnFeCoNi HEA coating were investigated by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction and by employing a potensiostat/galvanostat. The results showed that ZrC mainly existed in the coatings as a second phase, having little influence on the main crystal structure and micromorphology of the CrMnFeCoNi HEA coating. The hardness of the CrMnFeCoNi HEA coating increased with the ZrC content. ZrC can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of the CrMnFeCoNi HEA coating. In a 1 mol/L NaCl solution with 4 wt% ZrC, the annual corrosion rate was only 5.997% of that of the HEA coating. Nevertheless, the improvement in the wear resistance of CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy coatings was not apparent with the addition of ZrC. Consequently, the addition of ZrC to the FeCoCrNiMn high-entropy alloy coating holds promise for applications in corrosion resistance, particularly in oceanic environments.

Observational studies have suggested a positive association between gastroesophageal reflux disease and lung cancer, but due to the existence of confounders, it remains undetermined whether gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has a causal association with lung cancer. Therefore, Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were applied to investigate the relationship between the two conditions. Two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis was utilized with summary genetic data from the European Bioinformatics Institute (602,604 individuals) and International Lung Cancer Consortium, which provides information on lung cancer and its histological subgroups. Furthermore, we used two-step Mendelian randomization and multivariable Mendelian randomization to estimate whether smoking initiation (311,629 cases and 321,173 controls) and alcohol intake frequency (n = 462,346) mediate any effect of gastroesophageal reflux disease on lung cancer risk. The Mendelian randomization analyses indicated that gastroesophageal reflux disease was associated with and significantly increased the risk of lung cancer (ORIVW = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.18–1.54; p = 1.36 × 10–5). Smoking initiation and alcohol intake frequency mediated 35% and 3% of the total effect of gastroesophageal reflux disease on lung cancer, respectively. The combined effect of these two factors accounted for 60% of the total effect. In conclusion, gastroesophageal reflux disease is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, and interventions to reduce smoking and alcohol intake may reduce the incidence of lung cancer.

Abstract The OSIRIS detector is a subsystem of the liquid scintillator filling chain of the JUNO reactor neutrino experiment. Its purpose is to validate the radiopurity of the scintillator to assure that all components of the JUNO scintillator system work to specifications and only neutrino-grade scintillator is filled into the JUNO Central Detector. The aspired sensitivity level of $$10^{-16}\hbox { g/g}$$ 10 - 16 g/g of $$^{238}\hbox {U}$$ 238 U and $$^{232}\hbox {Th}$$ 232 Th requires a large ( $$\sim 20\,\hbox {m}^3$$ ∼ 20 m 3 ) detection volume and ultralow background levels. The present paper reports on the design and major components of the OSIRIS detector, the detector simulation as well as the measuring strategies foreseen and the sensitivity levels to U/Th that can be reached in this setup.

Abstract JUNO is a massive liquid scintillator detector with a primary scientific goal of determining the neutrino mass ordering by studying the oscillated anti-neutrino flux coming from two nuclear power plants at 53 km distance. The expected signal anti-neutrino interaction rate is only 60 counts per day (cpd), therefore a careful control of the background sources due to radioactivity is critical. In particular, natural radioactivity present in all materials and in the environment represents a serious issue that could impair the sensitivity of the experiment if appropriate countermeasures were not foreseen. In this paper we discuss the background reduction strategies undertaken by the JUNO collaboration to reduce at minimum the impact of natural radioactivity. We describe our efforts for an optimized experimental design, a careful material screening and accurate detector production handling, and a constant control of the expected results through a meticulous Monte Carlo simulation program. We show that all these actions should allow us to keep the background count rate safely below the target value of 10 Hz (i.e. ∼1 cpd accidental background) in the default fiducial volume, above an energy threshold of 0.7 MeV.

Abstract Atmospheric neutrinos are one of the most relevant natural neutrino sources that can be exploited to infer properties about cosmic rays and neutrino oscillations. The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector with excellent energy resolution is currently under construction in China. JUNO will be able to detect several atmospheric neutrinos per day given the large volume. A study on the JUNO detection and reconstruction capabilities of atmospheric $$\nu _e$$ ν e and $$\nu _\mu $$ ν μ fluxes is presented in this paper. In this study, a sample of atmospheric neutrino Monte Carlo events has been generated, starting from theoretical models, and then processed by the detector simulation. The excellent timing resolution of the 3” PMT light detection system of JUNO detector and the much higher light yield for scintillation over Cherenkov allow to measure the time structure of the scintillation light with very high precision. Since $$\nu _e$$ ν e and $$\nu _\mu $$ ν μ interactions produce a slightly different light pattern, the different time evolution of light allows to discriminate the flavor of primary neutrinos. A probabilistic unfolding method has been used, in order to infer the primary neutrino energy spectrum from the detector experimental observables. The simulated spectrum has been reconstructed between 100 MeV and 10 GeV, showing a great potential of the detector in the atmospheric low energy region.

The essential role of U4 snRNP in pre-messenger RNA (mRNA) splicing has been well established. In this study, we utilized an antisense morpholino oligonucleotide (AMO) specifically targeting U4 snRNA to achieve functional knockdown of U4 snRNP in HeLa cells. Our results showed that this knockdown resulted in global intronic premature cleavage and polyadenylation (PCPA) events, comparable to the effects observed with U1 AMO treatment, as demonstrated by mRNA 3'-seq analysis. Furthermore, our study suggested that this may be a common phenomenon in both human and mouse cell lines. Additionally, we showed that U4 AMO treatment disrupted transcription elongation, as evidenced by chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (ChIP-seq) analysis for RNAPII. Collectively, our results identified a unique role for U4 snRNP in the inhibition of PCPA and indicated a model wherein splicing intrinsically inhibits intronic cleavage and polyadenylation in the context of cotranscriptional mRNA processing. To investigate water-saving and yield-enhancing improvement programmes suitable for saline-alkali soils in the Yellow River Delta region, this study conducted outdoor pot experiments utilizing local moderately saline-alkali soils as research subjects. The primary focus was to examine the impact of biochar addition on water and salt distribution in saline-alkali soils and its effect on winter wheat growth under brackish water irrigation conditions. The study design established three different irrigation water mineral concentrations (0, 2 and 4 g L-1) during the research. Two types of biochar, wheat straw biochar (WB) and corn straw biochar (CB), were used with four different applications (0, 5, 10 and 20 tha-1). There were 21 treatments; each replicated three times. These findings demonstrated that brackish water irrigation and biochar application contributed to a notable increase in soil water content (SWC), with increases ranging from 12.8 to 83.9% across treatments. Using brackish water for irrigation increases soil salt content (SSC) and exacerbates soil salinization. However, the application of biochar counteracts this effect by reducing soil salinity and mitigating the degree of salinization. Treatments applying biochar mostly increased SSC, but proper application had a salinity-reducing effect, reducing SSC by up to 15.2%. And biochar reduced the soil sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), mitigating the adverse effects of high salinity on winter wheat. Finally, the application of biochar promoted the growth of winter wheat and increased yield, with the treatment applying 10 tha-1 of CB (K2Y10) producing the greatest yield under brackish water irrigation conditions and increased by 18% compared with the treatment without biochar (CK0). In summary, considering the aspects of water conservation, salt reduction and yield increase, the most effective saline land improvement programme for this region involved using 2 g L-1 brackish water for irrigation in combination with applying K2Y10. This approach balances addressing soil salinity, enhancing water conservation and maximizing crop yields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
To investigate water-saving and yield-improving solutions suitable for saline soils in the Yellow River Delta region, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of biochar addition on water-salt transport and winter wheat growth in saline soils under brackish water irrigation conditions through outdoor pot experiments using local moderately saline soils. Three irrigation water mineralization levels (0, 2, 4 g·L ) were used with two types of biochar (wheat straw biochar and corn straw biochar) and four additions (0, 5, 10, 20 t·ha ), with 21 treatments, each replicated three times. The results showed that both irrigation with brackish water and biochar application increased soil water content. Irrigation with brackish water increased soil salinity and intensified soil salinization, while application of biochar reduced soil salinity and salinization. 2 g·L brackish water promoted the initial growth of winter wheat, but led to yield reduction, while application of biochar promoted the growth of winter wheat and increased yield, with 10 t·ha YC having better effect. In conclusion, irrigation with 2 g·L brackish water and application of 10 t·ha YC is a more effective solution for saline land improvement in this region.

The thickness of the high-resistivity layer (active layer) is a crucial factor affecting the timing resolution of low gain avalanche diodes (LGADs). We studied the potential improvement of the timing resolution of charge particles based on LGADs with different active layer thicknesses. The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and the Novel Device Laboratory (NDL) jointly designed two types of LGAD sensors with active layer thicknesses of 33 and 50 $\mu \text{m}$ . The timing resolution is given by contributions from the time walk, jitter, and nonuniform charge deposition (Landau term). The jitter and the Landau term contributions in the timing resolution are extracted by the combination of the ${^{90}{Sr}}$ beta source test and the picosecond laser test. The Landau contribution is found to be the dominant contribution for both types of LGAD sensors, and the Landau contribution of the 33 $\mu \text{m}$ sensor is lower than that of the 50 $\mu \text{m}$ sensor. Based on the experimental results, we perform the simulation for thinner active layer LGAD with the WeightField2 program. The timing resolution can be further improved by reducing the active layer thickness from 33 to 20 $\mu \text{m}$ .

- Abstract
The objective of this study was to examine the effects of biochar compared to organic fertilizer on soil quality and microbial biomass as well as wheat yield in the saline-alkaline lands. A three-year field trial was conducted on moderately saline-alkaline land in the Yellow River Delta region (YRD) with six treatments: biochar (B1: 5 t, B2: 10 t, B3: 20 t ha− 1 year− 1) and organic fertilizer (OF1: 5 t, OF2: 7.5 t ha− 1 year− 1) as well as control (CK). The results showed that both biochar and organic fertilizer increased total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), NH4+-N, and NO3−-N, and reduced pH, thereby increasing soil microbial biomass carbon (MBC) and nitrogen (MBN), MBC/TOC ratio, and MBN/TN ratio, but organic fertilizer increased soil nutrients and microbial biomass better than biochar. Correlation analysis revealed that soil water content (SWC), soil salt content (SSC), and Na+ were the most important factors influencing wheat yield. When compared to CK, the SSC and Na+ decreased by 5.55–7.52% and 3.86–9.39%, respectively, and SWC increased by 5.14–5.62% in the biochar treatment, while they increased by 1.07–10.19%, 1.08–7.58%, and 2.96–3.84% in the organic fertilizer treatment, respectively. Accordingly, wheat yield in biochar treatment was 0.90–14.20% higher than organic fertilizer treatment (4.49–4.80 t ha− 1). Collectively, B2 had the lowest SSC and Na+ and the highest yield, as well as efficiently increasing soil nutrients and microbial biomass, suggesting that it may be a better agricultural practice for improving soil quality and increasing wheat yield in the YRD.

Cosmic-ray muon imaging is a kind of nondestructive detection technology which can be used to detect unknown objects in geological exploration, civil engineering and nuclear safety. Transmission imaging and scattering tomography schemes are studied. The transmission scheme uses a multilayer detector to measure the direction of a cosmic-ray muon passing through an object. The scattering scheme involves placing two detectors upstream and downstream of the object to record the incident and exit directions of the muon passing through the object. The effect of the detector resolution on the imaging clarity of transmission imaging was studied. The applicable scenarios of the two schemes were analyzed. The results by calculating show that in the transmission imaging of a hundred-meter object, a spatial resolution of 2.5 m can be achieved, and Cu and Fe can be discriminated with a density difference of 1.1 g/cm3. Scattering tomography is mainly suitable for meter-level objects, which can detect 0.2 m chamber and distinguish 0.05 m heavy metal blocks in rock.

During the research phase of acrylic panel for the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) central detector (CD), the darkroom transmittance measurement system (DTMS) was designed and built, and a massive amount of measurements were carried out to help determine the composition and processing techniques of the acrylic panel. The mass production of acrylic panels was started after the pilot production. The requirement of transmittance measurement put forward new demands on operation, and a new measurement system was considered to support removable and non-destructive measurement on site. After the accomplishment of design, development and verification were completed, the laser measurement system came into use in the acrylic workshop of Taixing Donchamp Acrylic Ltd, and the transmittance results of acrylic spherical panels met the requirement of JUNO. The optical design, tooling design, data processing interface and uncertainty analyses of the laser measurement system are discussed in detail, and the measured transmittance results are also introduced in this article.

The Central Detector (CD) of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) uses 20,000 tons of liquid scintillator as target mass, and the design value of energy resolution of neutrino is 3% at 1 meV. Acrylic transmittance is an important parameter for CD in order to maximize the detection of scintillating photons. The composition and processing techniques of acrylic can surely affect its transmittance. How the composition, thermoforming temperature, heat preservation time and surface treatment process of acrylic affect its transmittance was measured and analyzed. According to these studies, JUNO determined its special acrylic composition and processing techniques: no components of plasticizer or anti-UV in the composition, decreasing the time span and temperature during the demolding of flat panel, and adopting suitable thermoforming temperature of spherical panel. Finally, the preproduction of spherical acrylic panels meets the JUNO requirement confirming a transmittance in ultrapure water greater than 96% at the wavelength of 420 nm.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) has 20 kilo-ton liquid scintillator as target mass contained by a huge acrylic sphere to carry out the research on neutrino physics. Acrylic transmittance is considered as an important optical performance of the JUNO Central Detector as it has a direct relationship to the number of photons detected by the JUNO Central Detector and further affects the energy resolution of JUNO. The transmittance requirement of acrylic spherical panel for the JUNO Central Detector is exceeding 96% at the wavelength of 420 nm in ultrapure water and a specific measurement system was built and studied in Institute of High Energy Physics for this purpose, as the existing equipment cannot perform the sample test in the liquid and support the long sample length of 120 mm. After improving the technology of thermoforming, the transmittances of the acrylic spherical panels meet the requirement of JUNO, which guarantees the batch production of acrylic panels on time. The design of the measurement system, the constitution of hardware, the development of control and data acquisition software are introduced, and the measurement uncertainty of the system and the transmittance results of the acrylic samples from the spherical panel are discussed in this article.

The low gain avalanche detectors (LGADs) are thin sensors with fast charge collection which in combination with internal gain deliver an outstanding time resolution of about 30 ps. High collision rates and consequent large particle rates crossing the detectors at the upgraded Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2028 will lead to radiation damage and deteriorated performance of the LGADs. The main consequence of radiation damage is loss of gain layer doping (acceptor removal) which requires an increase of bias voltage to compensate for the loss of charge collection efficiency and consequently time resolution. The Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has developed a process based on the Institute of Microelectronics (IME), CAS capability to enrich the gain layer with carbon to reduce the acceptor removal effect by radiation. After 1 MeV neutron equivalent fluence of 2.5$\times$10$^{15}$ n$_{eq}$/cm$^{2}$, which is the maximum fluence to which sensors will be exposed at ATLAS High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD), the IHEP-IME second version (IHEP-IMEv2) 50 $μ$m LGAD sensors already deliver adequate charge collection > 4 fC and time resolution < 50 ps at voltages < 400 V. The operation voltages of these 50 $μ$m devices are well below those at which single event burnout may occur.

A compact T0 detector with high time resolution is developed. The T0 detector is based on a multi-anode MCP-PMT coupled with two fused quartzes. The characteristics of this MCP-PMT are studied by a fast laser pulse in laboratory firstly. Cosmic ray test has been carried out to study T0 detector’s signal features and time resolution. The T0 detector’s time resolution is less than 40 ps for the cosmic ray events. It can be applicable in cosmic ray test, beam test, collider experiment and detector developments.

The nanoparticles of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) were synthesized and added to ethanolamine/deep eutectic solvent solution to form nanofluid system. The dynamic removal performance of prepared nanofluid system for hydrogen sulfide was investigated. For the system based on choline chloride and urea, the introduction of nanoparticles showed significant enhancement effect on the desulfurization performance. The optimal mass fraction of nanoparticles in nanofluid systems were identified as 0.1%. Besides, the experimental results showed that the prepared nanofluid systems have high regeneration performance, and the presence of moderate moisture is beneficial to the regeneration process. The absorbents and nanoparticles before and after absorption were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectrum, X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The characterization results showed that the surface of nanoparticle was covered by CoS

We report precise TCAD simulations of IHEP-IME-v1 Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD) calibrated by secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS). Our setup allows us to evaluate the leakage current, capacitance, and breakdown voltage of LGAD, which agree with measurements' results before irradiation. And we propose an improved LGAD Radiation Damage Model (LRDM) which combines local acceptor removal with global deep energy levels. The LRDM is applied to the IHEP-IME-v1 LGAD and able to predict the leakage current well at -30 $^{\circ}$C after an irradiation fluence of $ \Phi_{eq}=2.5 \times 10^{15} ~n_{eq}/cm^{2}$. The charge collection efficiency (CCE) is under development.

This paper shows the simulation and test results of 50um thick Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGAD) sensors designed by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and fabricated by the Institute of Microelectronics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IME). Three wafers have been produced with four different gain layer implant doses each. Different production processes, including variation in the n++ layer implant energy and carbon co-implantation were used. Test results show that the IHEP-IME sensors with the higher dose of gain layer have lower breakdown voltages and higher gain layer voltages from capacitance-voltage properties, which are consistent with the TCAD simulation. Beta test results show that the time resolution of IHEP-IME sensors is better than 35ps when operated at high voltage and the collected charges of IHEP-IME sensors are larger than 15fC before irradiation, which fulfill the required specifications of sensors before irradiations for the ATLAS HGTD project., 11 pages,8 figures

We present the calibration strategy for the 20 kton liquid scintillator central detector of the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO). By utilizing a comprehensive multiple-source and multiple-positional calibration program, in combination with a novel dual calorimetry technique exploiting two independent photosensors and readout systems, we demonstrate that the JUNO central detector can achieve a better than 1% energy linearity and a 3% effective energy resolution, required by the neutrino mass ordering determination. Low Gain Avalanche Diode (LGAD) is applied for the High-Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD), and it will be used to upgrade the ATLAS experiment. The first batch IHEP-IME LGAD sensors were designed by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and fabricated by the Institute of Microelectronics (IME). Three IHEP-IME sensors (W1, W7 and W8) were irradiated by the neutrons up to the fluence of 2.5 x 10^15 n_eq/cm^2 to study the effect of the shallow carbon and deep N++ layer on the irradiation hardness. Taking W7 as a reference, W1 has an extra shallow carbon applied, and W8 has a deeper N++ layer., Comment: This work has been submitted to the IEEE for possible publication. The mechanism of the stereoselectivity for cis/trans-2-hexene epoxidation in TS-1 zeolite with hydrogen peroxide has been investigated using density functional theory with the ONIOM scheme. A cluster model of 136T with Ti(IV) at the T8 site of TS-1 was adopted to mimic the zeolite catalyst. Four different Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates were constructed and optimized. The stability order is Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O–(Hβ)H2O > Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O > Ti-η2(OOH)–(Hβ)H2O > Ti-η2(OOH). The activation energies of cis-2-hexene epoxidation over Ti-η2(OOH), Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O, Ti-η2(OOH)–(Hβ)H2O, and Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O–(Hβ)H2O active centers are 38.6, 53.6, 52.1, and 64.0 kJ mol−1, respectively. The corresponding activation energies for trans-2-hexene epoxidation are 60.1, 55.2, 80.5, and 85.8 kJ mol−1, respectively. cis-2-Hexene had a lower activation energy barrier than trans-2-hexene. The Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O species is likely the real active center; the ratio of the rate constant of the cis-2-hexene to trans-2-hexene epoxidation is 1.7, which agrees nicely with the experimental results. The decisive factor for cis-selectivity depends on the microstructure of the Ti-hydroperoxo intermediate and the confinement effect in TS-1 zeolite. At the transition state, cis-2-hexene is forced to adopt a twisting conformation and embeds suitably in the zeolite cavity under the action of confinement. This leads to increased stability and reduced activation barriers.

Microstructures and service performance (mechanical and electrical properties) of the commercially pure Al conductor wires subjected to different cold drawing strains were investigated. The results show that the microstructures of the cold-drawn Al wires along the radial direction were inhomogeneous, i.e. the texture in the center region was strong and weak components, while that in the surface region shifted from the initial cubic texture to a component and finally developed into a strong component. The volume fraction of the high angle grain boundaries in the surface region was higher than that in the center region. The cold-drawing process greatly enhanced the yield strength of the pure Al wires while retained the acceptable electrical resistivity. The strengthening mechanism and the variation of electrical conductivity of the cold-drawn Al wires are discussed through correlating with microstructure evolution.

Density functional theory was applied to investigate the structure of the framework titanium (Ti) species in the Ti-YNU-1 zeolite, and to evaluate its catalytic activity for 1-hexene epoxidation with H2O2 as the oxidant. The effects of solvent coordination on the stability and reactivity of Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates were studied. All calculations were performed at the theoretical level of B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) based on cluster models. Results suggested that a defective Ti-hydroxyl species [Ti(OSi)3OH] at the pillar (T6) site between the interlayers in the Ti-YNU-1 zeolite was responsible for the Ti-specific vibrational frequency observed at 930 cm−1, and was in good agreement with the experimental infrared spectra obtained for the Ti-rich Ti-YNU-1 zeolite. The stabilities of the possible Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates decreased in the order Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O > Ti-η2(OOH)–CH3CN > Ti-η2(OOH) as well as Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O > Ti-η1(OOH). The activation barriers of 1-hexene epoxidation over Ti6-η2(OOH), Ti6-η2(OOH)-H2O, and Ti6-η2(OOH)-CH3CN were 33.2, 35.0, and 43.9 kJ mol−1, respectively. The Ti6-η1(OOH) species possessed lower stability and had structural changes in the transition state for 1-hexene epoxidation, leading to the same transition-state structure as that of the bidentate Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O species. For comparison, the reactivity of the perfect Ti(OSi)4 species at the T1 site in the Ti-MWW zeolite was also investigated. The transition state of Ti1-η1(OOH) was obtained with an activation barrier of 107.2 kJ mol−1, which was much higher than that of Ti1-η2(OOH)–H2O. This result revealed that the intramolecular hydrogen bonding in the monodenate five-membered ring structure did not enhance the stability and reactivity of Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates. These results also indicated that Ti-YNU-1 was more active than Ti-MWW, which was in good agreement with experimental results.

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a multipurpose neutrino experiment designed to determine neutrino mass hierarchy, precisely measure oscillation parameters and study solar neutrinos, supernova neutrinos and geo-neutrinos, etc. The central detector (CD) of JUNO has 20,000 tons liquid scintillator as target mass, which contains inside a huge acrylic sphere with inner diameter of 35.4 m, supported by a stainless steel structure. The whole structure of CD will be installed inside a cylindrical water pool, and the acrylic sphere will be submerged in the center of water pool. The operating temperature of CD is designed to be 21 °C as long as over 20 years, which is determined by the mechanical requirement of the structure and physics consideration. For this operating temperature, a special cooling system will be used to maintain the temperature inside the water pool. The main structure of CD is composed of acrylic and stainless steel, and they have much different thermal expansion coefficients, strengths and life times. Change in temperature may affect the safety of CD. As part of reliability analysis, the effect of cooling system failure on the CD is considered, and finite element method is used in our thermal calculation. In this article, the temperature fields before and after cooling system failure are calculated and analyzed, and the temperatures of different locations of water pool after cooling system failure are compared and discussed in detail.

The spectroscopic features of the Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates in TS-1, Ti-BEA, and Ti-YNU-1 zeolites were studied by using theoretical calculations. The Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates, Ti-η1(OOH), Ti-η1(OOH)–H2O, Ti-η2(OOH), and Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O species, as well as Ti-η1(OOH)–CH3OH, Ti-η1(OOH)–CH3CN, Ti-η2(OOH)–CH3OH, and Ti-η2(OOH)–CH3CN species were constructed and their IR, Raman, and UV–vis spectra were calculated. The geometry optimization and vibrational frequency calculations were carried out with DFT method at the theoretical level of B3LYP/6-31G(d, p), and the UV–vis spectra were obtained with TD-DFT method at the theoretical level of PBEPBE/6–311++G(d, p). The calculated structures show the average Ti–O bond distances of 2.01 ± 0.02 A, consistent well with the experimental EXAFS data reported in the literatures. The calculated IR and Raman spectra of Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates show that the Oα–Oβ stretching vibrations are in the range of 870–910 cm−1 for Ti-η1(OOH) and Ti-η1(OOH)-R (R = H2O, CH3OH, CH3CN) species, and 834–855 cm−1 for Ti-η2(OOH) and Ti-η2(OOH)-R species. TD-DFT calculations indicate that for Ti-η1(OOH) and Ti-η1(OOH)-R species, the transition wavelengths are in the range of 350–365 nm and 370–400 nm, respectively, which are ascribed to the electron transition from the p orbital of the active oxygen Oα and Oβ to the unoccupied d* orbital of framework Ti atom, being responsible for the 385 nm band observed in the experimental UV–vis spectrum of TS-1 zeolite as contacting with H2O2 aqueous solution. Whereas, for the Ti-η2(OOH) and Ti-η2(OOH)-R species, all the corresponding transitions are below 350 nm. The catalytic performances of the Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates for olefin epoxidation were also evaluated. In combination of the calculated geometric parameters, the stabilities, the spectroscopic properties, and the catalytic performances, it is demonstrated that the initially formed Ti-hydroperoxo intermediates in titanosilicate/H2O2/H2O system should be Ti-η1(OOH)–H2O or Ti-η1(OOH) species, which then converts into the more stable Ti-η2(OOH)–H2O species that works as the actual catalytic active center for epoxidation reactions. If the solvent is methanol or acetonitrile, Ti-η2(OOH)–CH3OH or Ti-η2(OOH)–CH3CN species should be the predominant active center.
