Abstract Background Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS) is known for its propensity for local recurrence and short survival time. We aimed to identify a credible and specific prognostic biomarker for RPLS. Methods Cases from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) sarcoma dataset were included as the training group. Co-expression modules were constructed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to explore associations between modules and survival. Survival analysis of hub genes was performed using the Kaplan–Meier method. In addition, independent external validation was performed on a cohort of 135 Chinese RPLS patients from the REtroperitoneal SArcoma Registry (RESAR) study (NCT03838718). Results A total of 19 co-expression modules were constructed based on the expression levels of 26,497 RNAs in the TCGA cohort. Among these modules, the green module exhibited a positive correlation with overall survival (OS, p = 0.10) and disease-free survival (DFS, p = 0.06). Gene set enrichment analysis showed that the green module was associated with endocytosis and soft-tissue sarcomas. Survival analysis demonstrated that NINJ1, a hub gene within the green module, was positively associated with OS (p = 0.019) in the TCGA cohort. Moreover, in the validation cohort, patients with higher NINJ1 expression levels displayed a higher probability of survival for both OS (p = 0.023) and DFS (p = 0.012). Multivariable Cox analysis further confirmed the independent prognostic significance of NINJ1. Conclusions We here provide a foundation for the establishment of a consensus prognostic biomarker for RPLS, which should not only facilitate medical treatment but also guide the development of novel targeted drugs.

Abstract Sarcopenia is a progressive skeletal muscle disorder involving the loss of muscle mass and function, associated with an increased risk of disability and frailty. Though its prevalence in dementia has been studied, its occurrence in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has not been well established. As MCI is often a prelude to dementia, our study aims to investigate the prevalence of MCI among individuals with sarcopenia and to also ascertain whether sarcopenia is independently associated with MCI. The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Ovid, Embase and Web of Science were systematically searched for articles on MCI and/or sarcopenia published from inception to 1 February 2022. We reviewed the available literature on the number of individuals with MCI and/or sarcopenia and calculated odds ratios (ORs) of sarcopenia in MCI and MCI in sarcopenia, respectively. Statistical analyses were performed using the meta package in Stata, Version 12.0. A total of 13 studies and 27 428 patients were included in our analysis. The pooled prevalence of MCI in participants with sarcopenia was 20.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.140–0.269) in a total sample of 2923 cases with a high level of heterogeneity (P

Abstract Background Neoadjuvant radiotherapy (NRT) for resectable retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) has been shown to be systematically feasible. Whether NRT has equivalent or better clinical effects compared to surgery alone for RPS patients remains controversial. Methods We performed a systematic literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, ASCO Abstracts, and Cochrane library databases for studies in humans with defined search terms. Articles were independently assessed by 2 reviewers, and only randomized controlled trials and cohort studies were included. The hazard ratios (HRs) of overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and local recurrence (LR) were extracted from included studies. Heterogeneity among study-specific HRs was assessed by the Q statistic and I2 statistic. Overall HR was assessed by random-effects or fixed-effects models. Publication bias was tested by Begg’s tests, and the quality of each study was assessed with the Newcastle Ottawa Scale. Results A total of 12 eligible studies with 7778 resectable RPS patients were finally included in this study. The pooled analysis revealed the distinct advantages of NRT as compared to surgery alone, including longer OS (HR = 0.81, P

Abstract Background Studies have reported frailty as an independent risk factor of mortality in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, no systematic review and meta-analysis has been conducted to determine the relationship of frailty and IBD. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of frailty in patients with IBD and the impact of frailty on the clinical prognosis of these patients. Methods We systematically searched PubMed, Ovid (Medline), Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from database inception until October 2022. This systematic review included observational studies describing IBD and frailty. We performed meta-analysis for the frailty prevalence in patients with IBD. We analyzed primary outcomes (mortality) and secondary outcomes (infections, hospitalizations, readmission, and IBD-related surgery). Results Nine studies with a total of 1,495,695 participants were included in our meta-analysis. The prevalence of frailty was 18% in patients with IBD. The combined effect analysis showed that frail patients with IBD had a higher risk of mortality (adjusted hazard ratio = 2.25, 95% confidence interval: 1.11–4.55) than non-frail patients with IBD. The hazard ratio for infections (HR = 1.23, 0.94–1.60), hospitalizations (HR = 1.72, 0.88–3.36), readmission (HR = 1.21, 1.17–1.25) and IBD-related surgery (HR = 0.78, 0.66–0.91) in frail patients with IBD. Conclusions We demonstrated that frailty is a significant independent predictor of mortality in patients with IBD. Our work supports the importance of implementing frailty screening upon admission in patients with IBD. More prospective studies are needed to investigate the influence of frailty on patients with IBD and improve the poor prognosis of patients with frailty and IBD.

Abstract Background Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLS) is a specific soft tissue sarcoma with a high recurrence rate. The short isoform of transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 2 (TRPM2-S) plays an important role in the regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, the association between TRPM2-S and RPLS and its underlying mechanisms remains unclear. Methods The expression of both TRPM2-S and TRPM2-L in RPLS tissues was verified by kimmunohistochemistry (IHC). The regulation on Ca2+ influx by TRPM2-S was evaluated by Fluo-4 AM staining. The effect of TRPM2-S on cell proliferation and apoptosis was tested by 5-Ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU) staining and Flow cytometry respectively. The level of cellular ROS was assessed by the DCFH-DA probe. Different concentrations of H2O2 were used to provide oxidative stress on RPLS cells. The underlying mechanisms were further explored by Western blotting. Results The IHC assays showed that TRPM2-S, but not TRPM2-L, was prognostic in RPLS. Low TRPM2-S level was associated with poor disease-free survival (DFS). Calcium influx signal intensity was significantly decreased under TRPM2-S overexpression, which resulted in a decrease in the levels of FOXO3a and PTEN. Correspondingly, the levels of pERK, pAKT, pP65, pGSK-3β, Bcl-2, and β-catenin were upregulated, and cellular ROS was gently increased under TRPM2-S overexpression. Moreover, TRPM2-S slightly promoted cell proliferation and inhibited apoptosis of RPLS cell lines under normoxia, but largely increased apoptosis rates under oxidative stress. The cleaved caspase3 was significantly upregulated by TRPM2-S overexpression under oxidative stress. N-Acetyl-l-cysteine (NAC), a small molecule antioxidant, could largely rescue RPLS cells from the apoptosis induced by H2O2. Conclusion TRPM2-S exerts Janus-faced effects in RPLS by increasing the ROS levels via inhibition on FOXO3a, which promotes cell proliferation under normoxia but induces apoptosis under oxidative stress. Abstract Background Adjuvant therapy is a promising treatment to improve the prognosis of cancer patients, however, the evidence base driving recommendations for adjuvant radiotherapy (ART) or chemotherapy (ACT) in retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS) primarily hinges on observational data. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of adjuvant therapy in the management of RPS patients. Methods We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, ASCO Abstracts, and Cochrane Library for comparative studies (until December 2020) of adjuvant therapy versus surgery alone. Data on the following endpoints were evaluated: overall survival (OS), local recurrence (LR), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and metastasis-free survival (MFS). Data were summarized as hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Risk of bias of studies was assessed with Begg’s and Egger’s tests. Results A total of 15 trials were eligible, including 9281 adjuvant therapy and 21,583 surgery alone cases (20 studies for OS, six studies for RFS, two studies for LR, and two studies for MFS). Meta-analysis showed that ART was associated with distinct advantages as compared to surgery alone, including a longer OS (HR = 0.80, P

Abstract This paper proposes a novel distribution line parameter estimation method, driven by the probabilistic data fusion of the distributed phasor measurement unit (D‐PMU) and the advanced measurement infrastructure. The synchronized and high‐precision D‐PMU is utilized to tackle the challenge risen by the a‐synchronization of smart meters. Correspondingly, a time‐alignment algorithm is proposed to obtain the time‐synchronous error (TSE) dataset for the up‐stream smart meter. The non‐parametric estimation method is performed then to evaluate the probabilistic density curve of TSE. Furthermore, TSE data of down‐stream smart meters are generated by implementing the acceptance‐rejection process based on the obtained probabilistic density curve. Leveraging the generated TSE dataset, a new time‐shifted D‐PMU curve is probabilistically aligned or fused with the down‐stream advanced measurement infrastructure curves. According to the complete voltage drop model, the line parameter estimation of resistance and reactance is formulated as a quadratic programming problem and solved by Optimal Toolbox in MATLAB by conducting multi‐run Monte‐Carlo simulations under various scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed methodology.

The development of biosensors based on field-effect transistors (FETs) using atomically thick carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a channel material has the potential to revolutionize the related field due to their small size, high sensitivity, label-free detection, and real-time monitoring capabilities. Despite extensive research efforts to improve the sensitivity, selectivity, and practicality of CNT FET-based biosensors, their commercialization has not yet been achieved due to the non-uniform and unstable device performance, difficulties in their fabrication, the immaturity of sensor packaging processes, and a lack of reliable modification methods. This review article focuses on the practical applications of CNT-based FET biosensors for the detection of ultra-low concentrations of biologically relevant molecules. We discuss the various factors that affect the sensors’ performance in terms of materials, device architecture, and sensor packaging, highlighting the need for a robust commercial process that prioritizes product performance. Additionally, we review recent advances in the application of CNT FET biosensors for the ultra-sensitive detection of various biomarkers. Finally, we examine the key obstacles that currently hinder the large-scale deployment of these biosensors, aiming to identify the challenges that must be addressed for the future industrialization of CNT FET sensors.

The investigation of real-time dynamic behavior evaluation in the active distribution networks (ADNs) is a challenging task, and it has great importance due to the emerging trend of distributed generations, electric vehicles, and flexible loads integration. The advent of new elements influences the dynamic behavior of the electric distribution networks and increases the assessment complexity. However, the proper implementation of low-cost phasor measurement units (PMUs) together with the development of power system applications offer tremendous benefits. Therefore, this paper proposes a PMU-based multi-dimensional dynamic index approach for real-time dynamic behavior evaluation of ADNs. The proposed evaluation model follows the assessment principles of accuracy, integrity, practicability, and adaptability. Additionally, we introduced low-cost PMUs in the assessment model and implemented them for real-time and high-precision monitoring of dynamic behaviors in the entire distribution network. Finally, a complete model called the real-time dynamic characteristics evaluation system is presented and applied to the ADN. It is pertinent to mention that our proposed evaluation methodology does not rely on the network topology or line parameters of the distribution network since only the phasor measurements of node voltage and line current are involved in the dynamic index system. Thus, the presented methodology is well adaptive to different operation states of ADN despite frequent topology changes. The validation of the proposed approach was verified by conducting simulations on the modified IEEE 123-node distribution network. The obtained results verify the effectiveness and relevance of the proposed model for the real-time dynamic behavior evaluation of ADNs.

Electric power distribution networks plays a significant role in providing continuous electrical energy to different categories of customers. In the context of the present advancements, future load expansion in the active distribution networks (ADNs) poses the key challenge of planning to be derived as a multi-stage optimization task, including the optimal expansion planning scheme optimization (EPSO). The planning scheme optimization is a multi-attribute decision-making issue with high complexity and solving difficulty, especially when it involves a large-scale planning zone. This paper proposes a novel approach of a multi-year planning scheme for the effective solution of the EPSO problem in large planning zones. The proposed approach comprises three key parts, where the first part covers two essential aspects, i.e., (i) suggesting a project condition set that considers the elements directly related to a group of specific conditions and requirements (collectively referred to as conditions) to ADN planning projects; and (ii) Developing a condition scoring system to evaluate planning projects. The second part of our proposed scheme is a quantization method of correlativity among projects based on two new concepts: contribution index (CI) and dependence index (DI). Finally, considering the multi-year rolling optimization, a detailed mathematical model of condition evaluation and spatiotemporal optimization sequencing of ADN planning projects is developed, where the evaluation and optimization are updated annually. The proposed model has been successfully validated on a practical distribution network located in Xiantao, China. The investigated case study and comparisons verify the various advantages, suitability, and effectiveness of the proposed planning scheme, consequently saving more than 10% of the investment compared with the existing implemented scheme.

Three-phase imbalance is a long-term issue existing in low-voltage distribution networks (LVDNs), which consequently has an inverse impact on the safe and optimal operation of LVDNs. Recently, the increasing integration of single-phase distributed generations (DGs) and flexible loads has increased the probability of imbalance occurrence in LVDNs. To overcome the above challenges, this paper proposes a novel methodology based on the concept of “Active Asymmetry Energy-Absorbing (AAEA)” utilizing loads with a back-to-back converter, denoted as “AAEA Unit” in this paper. AAEA Units are deployed and coordinated to actively absorb asymmetry power among three phases for imbalance mitigation in LVDNs based on the high-precision, high-accuracy, and real-time distribution-level phasor measurement unit (D-PMU) data acquisition system and the 5th generation mobile networks (5G) communication channels. Furthermore, the control scheme of the proposed method includes three control units. Specifically, the positive-sequence control unit is designed to maintain the voltage of the DC-capacitor of the back-to-back converter. Likewise, the negative-sequence and zero-sequence control units are expected to mitigate the imbalanced current components. A simple imbalanced LVDN is modeled and tested in Simulink/Matlab (MathWorks, US). The obtained results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

To control multiple series units of distributed power flow controller (DPFC), a hierarchical control method is proposed. This coordination control system consists of a coordination controller and multiple series unit controllers. According to the demand of power flow ordered by a dispatch center, the corresponding series-compensated voltage is calculated by a high-level controller and transferred to each series unit controller. Comparing the targeted compensated voltage with actual injected voltage, the modulation signal of the converter will be modified to change the power flow accurately. The DPFC system model is built in Power Systems Computer Aided Design/ Electromagnetic Transients including DC (PSCAD/EMTDC). The simulation result indicates that the proposed hierarchical control method is effective and can be considered as an option for practical engineering applications in the future.

Blood-biomarker-based tests are highly important for the early clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and the treatment and care of AD patients, but the complex serum environment and extremely low abundance of AD blood protein biomarkers present challenges. Nanomaterials are promising for constructing highly sensitive transistor-based biosensors due to their small size. However, such biosensors are difficult to fabricate on a large scale and suffer from the lack of combined optimization of reproducibility and sensitivity in complex physiological fluids. In this work, field-effect transistor (FET) biosensors based on highly uniform semiconducting carbon nanotube (CNT) thin films are mass produced to achieve highly sensitive and selective detection of the AD core blood biomarkers of β-amyloid (Aβ). The combination of the mass-produced CNT FET sensors and oligonucleotide aptamers as efficient bioreceptors enables reliable and reproducible sub-femtomolar detection in full human serum for Aβ

- Abstract
In this paper, we investigate is how critical theorists have carried out Marx’s critical ambition. We examine the meaning of Marx’s aspiration of critique, the approach of immanent critique, and the application of this approach in various realms. Our analysis is based on the literature review of the works of critical theorists who specialize in feminism, labor, neo-colonialism, and other areas. We find that Marx aspired to achieve human emancipation through a type of critique that works within the existing system, rejects predictions and dogmas, and has the potential to transform both the system and the norm. Alternatively, we find that critical theorists have used immanent critiques as the core approach to fulfill Marx’s critical ambition, and this approach has been used in various domains in society, including gender, economic, and intercultural relations. These findings shed light not only on the influence of Marx’s expectation of critique on the core approach of critical theory but also on the ways critical theorists fulfill Marx’s ambition. Our findings provide a theoretical ground for the transformative potential of the ongoing movements that attempt to overthrow certain unjust norms in society. Also, our findings affirm the political efficacy of the participants of these progressive social movements.

PurposeThis study develops a cross-level moderated mediating model based on expectation-value theory to extend the knowledge on how and when organizational culture motivates employee radical creativity.Design/methodology/approachBased on longitudinal, multisource data for 584 R&D employees in 73 organizations, the research hypotheses were tested by a multilevel analysis using hierarchical linear model.FindingsThe results showed that error management culture had a positive effect on employees' psychological safety and radical creativity; psychological safety mediated the effect of error management culture on employee radical creativity. Further, moderated path analysis revealed that employees' promotion focus moderated the positive effect of psychological safety on employee radical creativity and thus strengthened the indirect effect of error management culture on employee radical creativity via psychological safety.Originality/valueLiterature on how organizational culture motivates workplace creativity pays little attention to employees' radical creativity. This study fills this gap by empirically examining the role of error management culture as a critical organizational culture that secures employee radical creativity. It also provides a novel mechanism, i.e., an expectancy-value mechanism to explain the link between organizational context and radical creativity by elucidating the underlying psychological process whereby error management culture drives employee radical creativity and identifying the pivotal moderating role of employees' regulatory focus in the function of error management culture.

- Abstract
Epitaxial growth and controllable doping of wafer-scale atomically thin semiconductor single crystals are two central tasks to tackle the scaling challenge of transistors. Despite considerable efforts have been devoted, addressing such crucial issues simultaneously under two-dimensional (2D) confinement is yet to be realized. Here we design an ingenious epitaxial strategy to synthesize record-breaking 4-inch Fe-doped transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) single crystals on industry-compatible c-plane sapphire without miscut angle. Atomically thin transistors with the highest recorded electron mobility (~231 cm2 V−1 s−1) and remarkable on/off current ratio (~109) are fabricated based on 4-inch Fe-MoS2 single crystals, due to the ultralow contact resistance (~489 Ω µm) and subthreshold swing (~95 mV dec−1). In-depth characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the introduction of Fe significantly decreases the formation energy of parallel steps on sapphire surfaces and contributes to the edge-nucleation of unidirectional alignment TMDCs domains (>99%), as well as the modulation of band structures. This work represents a substantial leap in terms of bridging synthesis and doping of wafer-scale 2D semiconductor single crystals without the need for substrate miscut, which should promote the further device downscaling and extension of Moore’s law.

Sarcopenia is a progressive skeletal muscle disorder involving the loss of muscle mass and function, associated with an increased risk of disability and frailty. The pooled prevalence of MCI in participants with sarcopenia was 20.5% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.140-0.269) in a total sample of 2923 cases with a high level of heterogeneity (P 0.001; I

Semiconducting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) based gas sensors have shown great promise owing to the high sensitivity, low cost and compatible to integrated circuits (ICs), but are not able to detect H2 with sub-10 ppb concentration, which is necessary to leakage monitoring in nuclear power plants. Here, we significantly enhance the limit-of-detection (LOD) and comprehensive performance of CNT based hydrogen sensors mainly through adopting a floating gate (FG) field-effect-transistor (FET) structure. The sensors are constructed by using high-purity semiconducting CNT network film as channel, Pd nanoparticles as H2-sensitive material, and Y2O3 dielectric layer between them as gate insulator. The introduction of Y2O3 film brings a co-optimization of sensitivity, selectivity and stability to CNT film gas sensors through the synergistic amplifying effect and protection effect. Specifically, the fabricated FG FET hydrogen sensors with the optimized Y2O3 thickness show a record LOD of 90 ppb at room temperature and even down to 5 ppb at ∼100 °C. Compared with conventional resistance-type sensors, the FG FET sensors exhibit more than one magnitude enhancement on response. Furthermore, the FG FET sensors exhibit excellent stability and well compatibility to CNT ICs, and are potential used as an excellent platform to develop smart sensors.

The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies that have examined the association between frailty and all-cause mortality in patients with HIV infection. We searched Embase, Medline through the Ovid interface, PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science to identify potential studies. Cohort studies of death outcomes in HIV patients under debilitating conditions were included and other ineligible or inadequate data were excluded. Data related to all-cause mortality in patients with HIV were extracted. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for cohort studies. Hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled to estimate the association between frailty and all-cause mortality using Stata, version 12.0. We identified 845 unduplicated citations. Of these, six cohort studies were eligible for inclusion in the review after applying our inclusion and exclusion criteria. Pooled results demonstrated that patients with HIV experiencing frailty were at an increased risk of all-cause mortality (pooled HR = 2.69, 95% CI = 1.83-3.97

We aimed to explore the prognostic value of DNASE1L3 across a series of malignancies. Methods: Based on Oncomine database and Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), expression profiling of DNASE1L3 was detailed in malignancies. Using PrognoScan, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, GEPIA2, and bc-GenEcMiner v4.5, prognostic value of DNASE1L3 was estimated in diverse cancers. Based on TIMER, association between DNASEL13 expression and immune infiltration was examined in various cancers. Then, mRNA level of DNASE1L3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) samples (n=22) and stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) samples (n=17) was measured with qRT-PCR. Immunohistochemistry was performed to confirm expression of DNASE1L3 in paraffin-embedded tissues of HCC (n=9) and lung adenocarcinoma (n=20).Results: DNASE1L3 was downregulated in multiple cancers, including breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA), cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL), liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). A lower level of DNASE1L3 correlated with poorer prognosis in various cancers, especially in breast, liver, kidney, stomach, lung adenocarcinoma and sarcoma (SARC). Moreover, DNASE1L3 was positively related to immune cell infiltration in many cancers, including BRCA, LIHC, STAD, LUAD, and SARC. DNASE1L3 was significantly associated with CCR7/CCL19 in cancers. DNASE1L3 was downregulated in HCC and STAD tissues as demonstrated by qRT-PCR, as well as in HCC and LUAD samples, as shown by immunohistochemistry. Conclusion: DNASE1L3 has potential to serve as a prognostic biomarker in cancer of the breast, kidney, liver, stomach, lung adenocarcinoma and sarcoma. Down-regulation of DNASE1L3 may participate in immune escape via CCR7/CCL19 axis. Keywords: DNASE1L3, CCR7, CCL19, prognosis, immune infiltration, tumor

This study is focused on real-time topology detection (TD) problems in the power distribution system. The advent of distribution phasor measurement units offers additional opportunities to use deep learning methods for accurate TD of the distribution system. In this study, a new concept named the kernel-node-map is presented, and then a novel topology detection method, Kernel-Node-Map Deep Network (KNDN), for distribution system is developed. KNDN is based on a deep convolutional neural network and the kernel-node-map concept. This neural network is adaptive to the physical topology of the distribution system in the structure. The principle, training process, and application of KNDN are elaborated in detail. Testing results on the modified IEEE 33-bus and 123-bus distribution systems verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed KNDN methodology, and show its advantages compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) field-effect transistor (FET)-based biosensors have shown great potential for ultrasensitive biomarker detection, but challenges remain, which include unsatisfactory sensitivity, difficulty in stable functionalization, incompatibility with scalable fabrication, and nonuniform performance. Here, we describe ultrasensitive, label-free, and stable FET biosensors built on polymer-sorted high-purity semiconducting CNT films with wafer-scale fabrication and high uniformity. With a floating gate (FG) structure using an ultrathin Y2O3 high-κ dielectric layer, the CNT FET biosensors show amplified response and improved sensitivity compared with those sensors without Y2O3, which is attributed to the chemical gate-coupling effect dominating the sensor response. The CNT FG-FETs are modified to selectively detect specific disease biomarkers, namely, DNA sequences and microvesicles, with theoretical record detection limits as low as 60 aM and 6 particles/mL, respectively. Furthermore, the biosensors exhibit highly uniform performance over the 4 in. wafer as well as superior bias stress stability. The FG CNT FET biosensors could be extended as a universal biosensor platform for the ultrasensitive detection of multiple biological molecules and applied in highly integrated and multiplexed all CNT-FET-based sensor architectures.

Aligning dense carbon nanotube arrays Although semiconducting carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are promising candidates to replace silicon in transistors at extremely small dimensions, their purity, density, and alignment must be improved. Liu et al. combined a multiple dispersion sorting process, which improves purity, and a dimension-limited self-alignment process to produce well-aligned CNT arrays on a 10-centimeter silicon wafer. The density is sufficiently high (100 to 200 CNTs per micrometer) that large-scale integrated circuits could be fabricated. With ionic liquid gating, the performance metrics exceeded those of conventional silicon transistors with similar dimensions. Science , this issue p. 850

The classification and retrieval of 3D models have been widely used in the field of multimedia and computer vision. With the rapid development of computer graphics, different algorithms corresponding to different representations of 3D models have achieved the best performance. The advances in deep learning also encourage various deep models for 3D feature representation. For multi-view, point cloud, and PANORAMA-view, different models have shown significant performance on 3D shape classification. However, There’s not a way to consider utilizing the fusion information of multi-modal for 3D shape classification. In our opinion, We propose a novel multi-modal information fusion method for 3D shape classification, which can fully utilize the advantage of different modal to predict the label of class. More specifically, the proposed can effectively fuse more modal information. it is easy to utilize in other similar applications. We have evaluated our framework on the popular dataset ModelNet40 for the classification task on 3D shape. Series experimental results and comparisons with state-of-the-art methods demonstrate the validity of our approach.

Tumor-derived exosomal miRNAs may have important functions in the onset and progression of cancers and are potential biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis monitoring. Yet, simple, sensitive, and label-free detection of exosomal miRNAs remains challenging. Herein, an ultrasensitive, label-free, and stable field-effect transistor (FET) biosensor based on a polymer-sorted high-purity semiconducting carbon nanotube (CNT) film is reported to detect exosomal miRNA. Different from conventional CNT FETs, the CNT FET biosensors employed a floating gate structure using an ultrathin Y2O3 as an insulating layer, and assembled Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) on Y2O3 as linkers to anchor probe molecules. A thiolated oligonucleotide probe was immobilized on the AuNP surface of the sensing area, after which miRNA21 was detectable by monitoring the current change before and after hybridization between the immobilized DNA probe and target miRNA. This method achieved both high sensitivity (LOD: 0.87 aM) and high specificity. Furthermore, the FET biosensor was employed to test clinical plasma samples, showing significant differences between healthy people and breast cancer patients. The CNT FET biosensor shows the potential applications in the clinical diagnosis of breast cancer.

Handling the explosion of massive data not only requires significant improvements in information processing, storage and communication abilities of hardware but also demands higher security in the storage and communication of sensitive information. As a type of hardware-based security primitives, physically unclonable functions (PUFs) represent a promising emerging technology utilizing random imperfections existing in a physical entity, which cannot be predicted or cloned. However, if a PUF is exploited to carry out secure communication, the keys inside it must be written into non-volatile memory and then shared with other participants that do not hold the PUF, which makes the keys vulnerable. Here, we show that identical PUFs, e.g. twin PUFs can be fabricated on the same aligned carbon nanotube arrays and optimized to yield excellent uniformity, uniqueness, randomness, and reliability. The twin PUFs show a good consistency of approximately 95 % and are used to demonstrate secure communication with a bit error rate reduced to one trillion through a fault-tolerant design. As a result, our twin PUFs offering a convenient, low-cost and reliable new technology for guarantee information exchange security.

Exosomes are small membrane-bound nanovesicles with a size of 50-150 nm which contain many functional biomolecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins. Due to their high homology with parental generation, they are of great significance in clinical diagnosis. At present, the quantitative detection of low concentrations of cancer-derived exosomes present in biofluids is still a great challenge. In this study, we develop an electrical and label-free method to directly detect exosomes with high sensitivity based on a reduced graphene oxide (RGO) field effect transistor (FET) biosensor. An RGO FET biosensor modified with specific antibody CD63 in the sensing area was fabricated and was used for electrical and label-free quantification of exosomes. The method achieved a low limit of detection down to 33 particles/μL, which is lower than that of many other available methods. In addition, the FET biosensor was employed to detect exosomes in clinical serum samples, showing significant differences in detecting healthy people and prostate cancer (PCa) patients. Different from other technologies, this study provides a unique technology capable of directly quantifying exosomes without labeling, indicating its potential as a tool for early diagnosis of cancer.

Field-effect transistor (FET) biosensors based on low-dimensional materials present the advantages of low cost, high speed, small size, and excellent compatibility with integrated circuits (ICs). In this work, we fabricated highly sensitive FET-based DNA biosensors based on chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-grown monolayer MoS2 films in batches and explored their application in noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for trisomy 21 syndrome. Specifically, MoS2 was functionalized with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) of an optimized size and at an ideal density, and then, probe DNAs for the specific capture of target DNAs were immobilized on the nanoparticles. The fabricated FET biosensors are able to reliably detect target DNA fragments (chromosome 21 or 13) with a detection limit below 100 aM, a high response up to 240%, and a high specificity, which satisfy the requirement for the screening of Down syndrome. In addition, a real-time test was conducted to show that the biosensor clearly responds to the target DNA a...

Unlike other extracellular vesicle (EV) subtypes such as exosomes, the lack of well-defined universal markers on the surface of microvesicles (MVs) has led to difficulty in the detection of the entire MV population. To design a universal MV detection method, we reported highly sensitive electrical detection of MVs using a reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-based field-effect transistor (FET) biosensor by the introduction of a membrane biotinylation strategy in this work. Biotinylated MVs (B-MVs) were obtained by supplying the culture medium with 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[biotinyl(polyethylene glycol)-2000] (DSPE-PEG-biotin) while cultivating the cells. Excellent biotinylation efficiency of MVs (92.6%) was then realized. A streptavidin (SA) probe was subsequently modified onto the channel surface of the as-fabricated RGO-based FET device, which was capable of specifically recognizing B-MVs due to the high affinity between SA and biotin in a 1 : 4 recognition format. The results showed that the RGO-based FET biosensor could detect B-MVs in a wide range from 105 particles per mL to 109 particles per mL with a low detection limit down to 20 particles per μL, which was the lowest value compared with other previously reported results. This platform also allowed distinguishing B-MVs from other unbiotinylated EV types such as MVs and exosomes, exhibiting excellent specificity. Moreover, this FET biosensor demonstrated the capability of detecting B-MVs derived from different cell lines including cancer cells and normal cells, indicating its versatility and potential applications in the biomedical field.
