Abstract Background The impact of high body mass index (BMI) on embryo and pregnancy outcomes in women using the PPOS (progestin-primed ovarian stimulation) protocol during their first frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles is not clear. This study is to investigate the impact of BMI on oocyte, embryo, and pregnancy outcomes in patients who underwent the PPOS protocol. Methods This retrospective study included the first FET cycle of 22,392 patients following the PPOS protocol. The impact of BMI on oocyte and pregnancy outcomes was assessed across different BMI groups, using direct acyclic graph to determine covariates, followed by the application of multiple linear and logistic regressions to further validate this influence. Results The high BMI groups exhibited a higher number of oocytes; however, no significant differences were observed in good-quality embryos, clinical pregnancy rate, and implantation rate. Non invasive load monitoring (NILM) is beneficial for enhancing the monitoring capability of the distribution network and is crucial for improving the safety of smart grid operation. However, household appliances involve a variety of devices and a large amount of data, making it difficult to achieve high-precision load identification. Especially when a large amount of loads are running simultaneously, problems such as feature overlap and reduced distinguish ability may occur, and thus increasing the difficulty of load identification. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a new NILM method based on dynamic time warping (DTW) optimization and event detection. Firstly, a feature extraction algorithm of STFT-SSAE is constructed by using short-time Fourier transform (STFT) to extract time–frequency features from the load, and then by sparse stack autoencoder (SSAE) to extract important features from time–frequency information. Secondly, the above features are input into Bi-LSTM and DTW models respectively, and a new probabilistic model is established. A Bi-LSTM-DTW load recognition architecture is built by combining the two models. Finally, the load identification model of SSAE-Bi-LSTM based on DTW optimization (DOSL) is trained by the preset combined data, which ensures the high confidence of the DOSL model in various complex operating scenarios. This paper introduces the public data set PLAID for experimental verification. The results show that the selected load features has good discrimination, and the proposed algorithm has the best identification effect with the accuracy rate of 0.9412. The proposed algorithm is also validated for generalization ability on the public dataset UK-DALE, with a identification accuracy rate of 0.9306, and the error of different datasets is only about 1%.

IntroductionAlthough the effectiveness of pentoxifylline (PF) as a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase to enhance sperm motility through increasing cyclic nucleotide in cases of absolute asthenozoospermia has been demonstrated for ICSI, data related to babies born from the PF-ICSI are still severely lacking. Concerns have been raised regarding the potential embryotoxicity of PF due to the controversial results obtained from the analysis of this compound on animal embryo development. This study aimed to determine whether the application of PF to trigger frozen-thawed TESA (testicular sperm aspiration) spermatozoa increases the risk of adverse obstetric and neonatal outcomes compared with non-PF frozen-thawed TESA ICSI and conventional ICSI using fresh ejaculation.Materials and methodsA total of 5438 patients were analyzed in this study, including 240 patients underwent PF-TESA ICSI (ICSI using PF triggered frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa), 101 patients underwent non-PF TESA ICSI (ICSI using frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa) and 5097 patients underwent conventional ICSI using fresh ejaculation. Propensity score matching was executed to control the various characteristics of patients.ResultsNo significant differences in pregnancy outcomes were observed among the three groups (PF-TESA ICSI, non-PF TESA ICSI and conventional ICSI), including biochemical pregnancy, clinical pregnancy, implantation, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, multiple pregnancy, and live birth, following propensity score matching. Additionally, neonatal outcomes were found to be similar among the three groups, with no statistical differences observed in the birth defect, birth weight, gestational age, preterm birth, and early-neonatal death.Discussion and conclusionPF-ICSI may be an alternative treatment in patients using frozen-thawed testicular spermatozoa, resulting in comparable pregnancy and neonatal outcomes.

Virus-induced genomic remodeling and altered gene expression contribute significantly to cancer development. Some oncogenic viruses such as Human papillomavirus (HPV) specifically trigger certain cancers by integrating into the host’s DNA, disrupting gene regulation linked to cell growth and migration. The effect can be through direct integration of viral genomes into the host genome or through indirect modulation of host cell pathways/proteins by viral proteins. Viral proteins also disrupt key cellular processes like apoptosis and DNA repair by interacting with host molecules, affecting signaling pathways. These disruptions lead to mutation accumulation and tumorigenesis. This review focuses on recent studies exploring virus-mediated genomic structure, altered gene expression, and epigenetic modifications in tumorigenesis.

Different degrees of roasting result in differences in the quality and flavor of large-leaf yellow tea. The current sensory evaluation and chemical detection methods cannot meet the requirement of online differentiation of LYT roasting degree, so an accurate and comprehensive assessment method needs to be developed urgently. First, the two aroma sensing technologies were compared. Two variable screening methods and three recognition algorithms were employed to build discriminant models. The results showed that the discrimination rate of the colorimetric sensor array (CSA) in the prediction set reached 91.89 %, outperforming that of the E-nose. Subsequently, three fusion strategies were applied to improve the discrimination accuracy. The discrimination rate of the middle fusion strategy resulted in an optimal resolution of 94.59 %. The results obtained from the homologous fusion were able to evaluate the roasting degree comprehensively and accurately, which provides a new method and idea for tea aroma quality.

Third-party punishment (TPP) reflects people’s social preference for fairness norms and is fundamental to maintaining fairness norms on a large scale. Several empirical studies have shown that the offender’s group membership impacts TPP, but the detailed mechanisms have yet to be fully elucidated. The current study used the third-party punishment game task to explore the relationship between group membership, perceived unfairness, anger, and adolescents’ TPP. A total of 306 teenagers aged 12 to 15 were chosen as subjects through cluster sampling. The results showed that group membership (classmate vs. stranger) and gender can affect adolescents’ TPP together, which manifests as adolescents enacting significantly harsher punishments on strangers than on classmates, especially for boys. Group membership indirectly affects TPP through the mediating effects of perceived unfairness, anger and through a chain mediation of perceived unfairness and anger. Moreover, gender positively moderate the relationship between group membership and perceived unfairness. Specifically, group membership significantly affects boys’ perceived unfairness, but cannot predict girls’ perceived unfairness. The above results can be used to guide adolescents toward appropriate justice concepts and moral awareness, thus enhancing TPP.

Abstract To find a traffic assignment algorithm that is less complex than the current algorithms in terms of both methodology and implementation, the route‐based incremental equilibrium assignment (IEA) method is proposed. The IEA method iteratively performs incremental assignment and new origin‐destination (O‐D) demand extraction, where the new O‐D demand is obtained by aggregating the traffic flows from the routes whose travel times are greater than the shortest travel time. By extending the IEA method, the incremental stochastic user equilibrium and reliability‐based user equilibrium assignments are proposed to solve the stochastic user equilibrium (SUE) and reliability‐based user equilibrium (RUE) models, respectively. The traffic flow assignment and new O‐D demand extraction are carried out in terms of the route choice probability and the ratio of route flow to O‐D demand in the incremental stochastic user equilibrium assignment method; the redundant traffic flows from the non‐equilibrium routes are extracted. Unlike the IEA method, incremental reliability‐based user equilibrium assignment needs to derive both the mean and variance of the route travel time. The results from numerical experiments demonstrate the essential ideas and convergence performance of the proposed IEA algorithm and illustrate that IEA can be effectively extended to solve the SUE and RUE models.

To reduce pesticide pollution and promote sustainable agricultural development in China, we designed a pilot-scale biofilter system to treat residual imidacloprid wastewater in an orchard. The biofilter system demonstrated a high rate of removal of imidacloprid from the biodegradation wastewater, with removal rates from the outlet exceeding 99% at different concentrations of pesticides. Among environmental factors, imidacloprid concentration at the inlet and biomixture significantly affected the activity of imidacloprid-degrading bacteria. The dominant microbial communities during the stable operation of the biofilter system included Firmicutes, Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria, and Bacteroidetes at the phylum level and Bacillus, Methylobacter, and unclassified_f__Microbacteriaceae at the genus level. In future initiatives to improve biofilter performance and applicability, increasing attention should be paid to the dominant microbial communities, the number of biofilter units, and important environmental factors. Orchard workers in China should improve the existing treatment of residual pesticide wastewater to mitigate agricultural non-point source pollution.

In order to reduce the loss of laser point cloud appearance contours by point cloud lightweighting, this paper takes the laser point cloud data of the segment beam of the expressway viaduct as a sample. After comparing the downsampling algorithm from many aspects and angles, the voxel grid method is selected as the basic theory of the research. By combining the characteristics of the normal vector data of the laser point cloud, the top surface point cloud edge data are extracted and the voxel grid method is fused to establish an optimized point cloud lightweighting algorithm. The research in this paper shows that the voxel grid method performs better than the furthest point sampling method and the curvature downsampling method in retaining the top surface data, reducing the calculation time and optimizing the edge contour. Moreover, the average offset of the geometric contour is reduced from 2.235 mm to 0.664 mm by the edge-optimized voxel grid method, which has a higher retention. In summary, the edge-optimized voxel grid method has a better effect than the existing methods in point cloud lightweighting.

Expressway emergencies tend to cause traffic congestion, and understanding the travel time delays of on-road vehicles under different combinations of event scenarios and road traffic conditions is valuable for guiding the accurate emer-gency dispatch services. Most existing studies used methods that combine the Lighthill–Whitham–Richards (LWR) theory and basic traffic diagrams to solve this problem, but the discrete traffic flow characteristics caused by the pres-ence of heavy vehicles have not been considered, thus affecting the applicability of those results to road traffic charac-teristics in China. Moreover, there is a lack of systematic research on multiple combinations of unexpected event sce-narios and traffic conditions, and the guidance value of the previously obtained results is limited. In order to improve the applicability of the prediction model and accurately predict the severity of emergencies, based on a logistic model that is applicable to emergencies, a velocity–density model is constructed to describe discrete traffic flow characteris-tics. Based on LWR theory, the internal driving force of expressway traffic state evolution under emergency conditions is explored. Combined with real-time traffic flow data, the parameters of the logistic model are calibrated, and a lo-gistic velocity–density model is constructed using a goodness-of-fit test and a marching method, including the free-flow velocity, turning density and heavy vehicle mixing ratio. Thus, the problem that existing models lack applicability to road traffic characteristics in China is solved. Travel time delay is associated with the impact range of an emergency, and it is an effective index for evaluating the severity of emergency incidents. Thus, the travel time delays under differ-ent scenarios, different numbers of blocked lanes and different orthogonal combinations of approximate saturation conditions are explored, and the impacts of lane blockage on emergency incidents and travel time delays are obtained. The conclusions show that the presented logistic velocity–density model constructed based on discrete traffic flow characteristics can properly quantify the impact of the presence of heavy vehicles. Additionally, the results can provide theoretical support for handling emergencies and emergency rescues.

Abstract Background 0PN zygotes have a low cleavage rate, and the clinical outcomes of cleavage-stage embryo transfers are unsatisfactory. Blastocyst culturing is used to screen 0PN embryos, but whether the cell number of 0PN embryos on day 3 affects the clinical outcomes following single blastocyst transfer is unknown and would be helpful in evaluating the clinical value of these embryos. Methods This retrospective study compared 46,804 0PN zygotes, 242 0PN frozen-thawed single blastocyst transfers, and 92 corresponding 0PN singletons with 232,441 2PN zygotes, 3563 2PN frozen-thawed single blastocyst transfers, and 1250 2PN singletons from January 2015 to October 2019 at a tertiary-care academic medical centre. This study focused on major fish species caught from different ecological habitats to analyze the habitat changes in economically important fish in the Beibu Gulf. The maximum entropy model was constructed based on the data from 26 voyages obtained through the otter trawl fishery stock surveys conducted in the Beibu Gulf from 2006 to 2018. A total of 10 taxa of major fish catches, belonging to 4 families, 1 genus, and 5 species, were analyzed for their distribution characteristics in potential habitats during various ecological periods, specifically the withered and high-water periods, as well as their relationships with crucial environmental factors. During both the withered and high-water periods, the average area under the curve was 0.927, and all models had values exceeding 0.9. Salinity was identified as the principal factor during both periods. The salinity niche of Acropoma japonicum and the primary productivity niche of Sciaenidae were identified as the most restricted factors. The total distribution area of potentially suitable regions for major fish catches extended between 106°30′–109°45′ E and 17°30′–20°45′ N, and the area was lesser during the withered period. During the withered period, the distribution areas of Sciaenidae, Leiognathidae, and Saurida increased, while the distribution area of Trachurus japonicus increased during the high-water period. Sciaenidae and Trachurus japonicus exhibited the highest rates of change at 6.22% and 10.92%, respectively. This indicates that the high-water period may expand the range of suitable habitats for large catches that have an ideal habitat status in the Beibu Gulf. Therefore, it is crucial to anticipate the potential fish habitats in the Beibu Gulf and clarify their spatial distribution patterns.

Ozone variation, excluding meteorological effects, is very important to assess the effects of air pollution control policies. In this study, the Kolmogorov-Zurbenko (KZ) filter method and multiple linear stepwise regression are combined to study the impact of meteorological parameters on ozone concentration over the past 5 years (2016–2020) in a petrochemical industrial city in northern China. Monte Carlo simulations were used to evaluate the reliability for the potential quasi quantitative prediction of the baseline component. The average level of the city and the details of five stations in the city were studied. The results show that the short-term, seasonal, and long-term component variances of maximum daily running average 8 h (MDA8) ozone in Zibo city (City) decomposed by the KZ filter account for 32.06%, 61.67% and 1.15% of the total variance, for a specific station, the values were 32.37%–34.90%, 56.64%–62.00%, and .35%–3.14%, respectively. The average long-term component increase rate is 3.19 μg m−3 yr−1 on average for the city, while it is 1.52–5.95 μg m−3 yr−1 for a specific station. The overall meteorological impact was not stable and fluctuated between −2.60 μg m−3 and +3.77 μg m−3. This difference in trends between the city and specific stations implied that the O3 precursor’s mitigation strategy should be more precise to improve its practical effects.

Black carbon (BC) is one of the main factors in global climate change and human health. Based on reanalysis data from the Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Applications Version 2 (MERRA-2), the historical trends in the variation of BC and the factors affecting this were investigated in core city of Central Plains Economic Zone in China-Zhengzhou. Based on correlation analysis with ground measurements of BC concentration, it was determined that the MERRA-2 reanalysis data could be used to reveal the variations in ground-level BC concentrations. According to the variation trends of BC concentration in 1980–2020 and typical fossil fuel consumption in 2008–2017, two periods of rapidly increasing BC concentration were identified in 1980–1989 and 1999–2006. The increase in BC concentration then slowed from 2007. Since 2012, due to the adjustment of the Zhengzhou strategy and the implementation of an emission control strategy throughout Henan Province, the consumption of coal and coke decreased by 4% every year, resulting in a downward trend in the total BC emissions. However, coal and coke were still the main factors affecting the BC concentration in Zhengzhou. The contribution of transportation to BC in Zhengzhou has been particularly important since 2016. Analysis of BC seasonal variation revealed that the highest BC concentration was in winter, mainly due to the increase in industry and residential emissions. Additionally, based on the local and regional emission inventories and combined with potential source contribution function (PSCF), concentration weighted trajectory (CWT), this study revealed the potential sources regions and source types of BC in Zhengzhou, and found that the intensification of energy consumption and BC emissions in Zhengzhou and the surrounding regions of Henan Province might be the reasons for the high BC loading in Zhengzhou through regional transport.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a distinct subtype of extranodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and mainly affects elderly population characterized by selective infiltration of neoplastic cells within the lumina of small vessels. Prostate primary IVLBCL is extremely rare. Herein we present a case of a 76-year-old male patient who was admitted with symptoms of severe lower urinary tract obstruction. IVLBCL was diagnosed based on histopathological and immunohistochemical examination of the precious tissue specimens though transurethral prostate resection. Awareness and accurate diagnosis are very important to guide the clinicals in formulation of diagnosis and treatment plan.

Abstract Background Inguinal endometriosis (IEM) is a rare extra pelvic endometriosis. Here, we study the clinical characteristics, management strategies, and long-term gynecological outcomes of IEM patients at Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. Case presentation Three patients presented with a total of four lesions (one on the left side, one on the right side, and one bilaterally). The diameters of the four lesions were 2 cm, 2 cm, 3.5 cm and 1.5 cm, respectively. Two patients were admitted with inguinal hernias. Two patients were admitted with endometrioses—one with ovarian endometriosis and one with pelvic endometriosis. The hernia sac was repaired concomitantly via excision of the round ligament in two patients. One patient underwent a concomitant laparoscopy for gynecologic evaluations, including an ablation to the peritoneal endometriosis, and resection of the left uterosacral ligament endometriosis and pelvic adhesiolysis. All lesions were located on the extraperitoneal portion of the round ligament and were diagnosed histologically. No recurrence was observed in the inguinal region. All patients diagnosed with adenomyosis were treated with medication alone without any complaints. Conclusions Inguinal endometriosis can occur simultaneously with pelvic endometriosis. In most cases, a concomitant hernia sac appears together with groin endometriosis. Clinical management should be individualized and performed in tandem with general practitioners and obstetrics & gynecology experts. Pelvic disease, in particular, should be followed-up by a gynecologist.

BackgroundMany studies have demonstrated the positive clinical value of progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) who underwent assisted reproductive technology. However, the underlying factors contributing to this phenomenon remain unclear. We conducted a retrospective observational study to compare the clinical outcomes of women with PCOS who underwent PPOS or the short protocol to identify possible factors that influence the outcome.MethodsThis study included 304 patients who underwent PPOS and 152 patients who underwent short protocol from April 2014 to July 2019 after propensity-score matching. Human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) dose, hormone profile, embryo development, and clinical outcomes of frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles were compared. The primary outcome measure was the implantation rate. Logistic regression was performed to identify contributing factors, and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to calculate the cutoff of luteinizing hormone (LH) difference ratio in clinical outcomes.ResultsCompared with the short protocol, PPOS resulted in a higher implantation rate (43.4% vs. 31.9%, P < 0.05), clinical pregnancy rate (61.8% vs. 47.4%, P < 0.05), and live birth rate (48.4% vs. 36.8%, P < 0.05). Similar fertilization, cleavage, and valid embryo rate per oocyte retrieved between groups were observed. The LH difference ratio was positively associated with implantation rate [P = 0.027, odds ratio (OR) = 1.861, 95% CI: 1.074–3.226]. The relationship between the LH difference ratio with clinical outcomes was confirmed by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and comparisons among patients grouped by the LH difference ratio.ConclusionThe implantation rate was associated with the LH difference ratio during ovary stimulation in patients with PCOS. Our results provide the explanation why PPOS shows the positive clinical outcomes for patients with PCOS.

People tend to voluntarily sacrifice their own interests to reject unfair proposals, and this behaviour is affected by group affiliation. While group bias is a well-established phenomenon, its direction is still unclear, and little attention has been given to possible moderating factors. In two studies, we manipulate participants’ ingroup identification and investigate whether and how individuals with various levels of ingroup identification react differently to unfairness from ingroups and outgroups during an incentivized (Study 1, N = 46) and hypothetical (Study 2, N = 332) ultimatum game. The results show that participants display a strong preference for their own group. High identifiers tend to accept unfair proposals from ingroups compared to outgroups, whereas this effect is nonsignificant for low identifiers, especially for moderately unfair treatment (offer 7:3). Moreover, higher identification tends to be accompanied by higher ingroup positive expectation, which then leads to greater ingroup favouritism for an offer of 7:3. These results imply that ingroup identification can enhance group favouritism during fairness norm enforcement through ingroup positive expectation.

Background: Many studies have demonstrated that microRNAs, a class of small and non-coding RNA molecules, play an important role in the regulation of glucose and lipid homeostasis. In the present study, we sought to investigate the function of miR-592 in the development of obesity-associated metabolic disorders, including hyperglycemia andinsulin resistance. Methods: The expression levels of miR-592 were measured in the liver of obese mice and humans by quantitative reverse transcription PCR. Loss- and gain-of function experiments were employed to explore the metabolic function of miR-592 using locked nucleic acids and adenovirus in lean and obese mice, respectively. The molecular target of miR-592 was determined by western blotting and luciferase reporter assays. Findings: We found a significant decreased expression of miR-592 in the liver of obese mice and humans. Inhibition of miR-592 led to elevated blood glucose levels, enhanced gluconeogenesis and reduced insulin sensitivity in lean mice. In contrast, adenovirus-mediated overexpression of hepatic miR-592 improved metabolic disorders in obese mice. Mechanistically, we found that the transcription factor forkhead box O1 (FOXO1) is a direct target gene of miR-592 to mediate its metabolic functions. miR-592 was able to inhibit the mRNA and protein expression of FOXO1 by binding to its 3′-untranslated region. Interpretations: Our findings demonstrate that obesity-associated down-regulation of miR-592 plays an important role in the progression of metabolic diseases. Restoration of hepatic miR-592 could improve glucose and lipid metabolism in obese mice. In this study, a real-time remote monitoring and fault diagnosis method has been developed based on the Internet of Things (IoT) frame perception, and successfully applied to a mine hoist system. The proposed method combines the sensor technology, online monitoring technology, wireless transmission technology, and fault diagnosis technology. The basic structure of the traditional IoT comprises a perception layer, a network layer, and an application layer, the proposed structure contains an additional middleware layer between the network layer and the application layer. This four-layer system is used in a mine hoist remote monitoring and fault diagnosis framework to process heterogeneous multi-source information. The sensors and parameters are connected in the perception layer, the characteristic parameters are obtained using the configuration software, and the mine local area network is saved to the data server, thereby synchronizing real-time data in the local area network. The network layer utilizes mature Internet and long-distance wireless transmission communication technologies, whereas the middleware layer comprises of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based IoT data processing framework that integrates the multi-source heterogeneous data. Further, the fault diagnosis method is analyzed and verified based on the gray association rules. In the application layer, a human-computer interface is used for the remote monitoring and diagnosis of the mine hoist and to provide the diagnosis results as feedback to the user. The results using the aforementioned analyses are applied to the remote monitoring and diagnosis of a mine hoist system. In this study, experimental tests are conducted in this study to significantly improve the fault monitoring, diagnostic capabilities, and reliability of the mine hoist system, indicating the good application good prospects of the proposed method.

The emerging virus, COVID-19, has caused a massive outbreak worldwide. Based on the publicly available contact-tracing data, we identified 509 transmission chains from 20 provinces in China and estimated the serial interval (SI) and generation interval (GI) of COVID-19 in China. Inspired by different possible values of the time-varying reproduction number for the imported cases and the local cases in China, we divided all transmission events into three subsets: imported (the zeroth generation) infecting 1st-generation locals, 1st-generation locals infecting 2nd-generation locals, and other transmissions among 2+. The corresponding SI (GI) is respectively denoted as SI10(GI10), SI21 (GI21), and SI3+2+(GI3+2+). A Bayesian approach with doubly interval-censored likelihood is employed to fit the distribution function of the SI and GI. It was found that the estimated SI10=6.52 (95% CI:5.96-7.13), SI21=6.01 (95%CI:5.44-6.64), SI3+2+=4.39 (95% CI:3.74-5.15), and GI10=5.47 (95% CI:4.57-6.45), GI21=5.01 (95% CI:3.58-7.06), GI3+2+=4.25 (95% CI:2.82-6.23). Thus, overall both SI and GI decrease when generation increases.

Abstract Background The unique clinical features of pregnancy termination in the second trimester with concurrent placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders place obstetricians in a complex and delicate situation. However, there are limited data on this rare and dangerous condition. The objective of this research was to investigate and evaluate the clinical management strategies of this patient group. Methods The medical records of patients who were diagnosed and treated in our hospital from December 2005 and December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. Results A total of 29 patients were included in this analysis. A prenatal diagnosis was suspected in 8 (27.6%) patients, and the remaining 21 (72.4%) patients were diagnosed after pregnancy termination in the second trimester. In the subgroup with a prenatal diagnosis, a planned hysterotomy was performed in 7 patients who had total placenta previa and previous cesarean delivery. The remaining patient received medical termination. A subtotal hysterectomy was performed in 3 (10.3%) patients for life-threatening bleeding during hysterotomy, and the uterus was preserved with an in situ placenta in the remaining 5 patients. In the subgroup with a postnatal diagnosis, the implanted placenta remained partly or completely in situ in all 21 patients under informed consent. Ultimately, the implanted placenta remained partly or completely in situ in 26 (89.7%) patients in the two subgroups. With the application of adjuvant treatments, including uterine artery embolization and medication followed by curettage under ultrasound guidance, the implanted placenta was passed 76.6 (range: 19 to 192) days after termination. Uterus preservation was achieved in all 26 patients. The complications associated with conservative management included delayed postnatal hemorrhaging (2 cases, 7.7%), fever (6 cases, 23.1%), G1 transaminase disorder (4 cases, 15.4%), and myelosuppression (1 case, 3.8%). Seven women (26.9%) had a spontaneous pregnancy after conservative management, and no patient experienced recurrent PAS disorders. Conclusions Leaving the implanted placenta in situ is the preferred choice for patients with PAS disorders who underwent pregnancy termination in the second trimester and desired fertility preservation. Multiple adjuvant treatment modalities, either alone or in combination, may help to promote the passing or absorption of the implanted placenta under close monitoring.

Integrated flexible tactile sensors: downsizing for higher performance By reducing feature size to one micron, flexible tactile sensors with high spatial resolution and sensitivity are demonstrated. A collaborative team led by Nian-Xiang Sun from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Northeastern University developed integrated flexible tactile sensors and sensor arrays with high sensitivity and spatial resolution. The sensor’s high sensitivity (e.g. gauge factor of 338) is due to developed piezoresistive Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films. To obtain a high spatial resolution above 12,700 pixels per inch, the sensor’s feature size was reduced to one micron. Sun and co-workers demonstrate the applicability of the integrated flexible tactile sensors for next-generation touch display applications through proof-of-concept 5 × 5 sensor arrays and Ge2Sb2Te5 strain sensors with enhanced performance at smaller size.

The miniaturization of antennas beyond a wavelength is limited by designs which rely on electromagnetic resonances. Here, Nan et al. have developed acoustically actuated antennas that couple the acoustic resonance of the antenna with the electromagnetic wave, reducing the antenna footprint by up to 100.

Apart from private traffic, the evacuation of transit-dependent population is also an essential component of emergency preparedness, especially under no-notice evacuation scenarios with limit evacuation horizon. In literature, most bus-based evacuation models for no-notice evacuation are established under implicit assumptions of uniform evacuation horizon among different pick-up locations or fixed bus fleet in the evacuation area. These constraints will distance their models from real-world situations, where evacuation horizon is various due to spatial distribution of pick-up locations and fleet size of bus available for allocation will increase over time in no-notice evacuation. This research presents a risk-based bus schedule model which is differentiated from the vehicle routing problem (VRP) and bus evacuation problem (BEP) in literature, including the objective and the time-dependent parameters. A quantified definition of evacuation risk for pick-up location with concerns of disaster dynamics and time-varying supply-demand conditions is proposed in this paper as a criterion for bus allocation, also acting as a reflection of social equity to some extent. A notion of time-evolving disadvantageous evacuation units (DEU) is introduced to represent the pick-up locations selected for bus allocation with limited resource. The binary integer linear programming (BILP) named risk-based bus schedule model incorporated with DEU notion can provide a reference for resource allocation in stage of both evacuation planning and operation for transit-dependent population. The proposed model structure can effectively capture the changes of evacuation risk among pick-up locations over time to realize real-time bus schedule. Numerical experiments are conducted using the transportation network of the city of Xi’an, China, to test the performance of the model. The applicability and comparison of different bus evacuation models are also discussed in this paper. This research provides insights into dealing with disaster dynamics and time-varying supply conditions in realistic bus-based no-notice evacuation operations.

The performance of the brake system is directly related to the safety and reliability of the mine hoist operation. Mining the useful fault information in the operation of a mine hoist brake system, analyzing the abnormal parts and causes of the equipment, and making accurate early prediction and diagnosis of hidden faults are of great significance to ensure the safe and stable operation of a mine hoist. This study presents a fault diagnosis method for hoist disc brake system based on machine learning. First, the monitoring system collects the information of the hoist brake system, extracts the fault features, and pretreats it by SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions). This work provides data support for fault classification. Then, due to the complex structure of the hoist brake system, the relationship between the fault factors often has a significant impact on the fault. Considering the correlation between the fault samples and the attributes of each sample data, the C4.5 decision tree algorithm is improved by adding Kendall concordance coefficient, and the improved algorithm is used to train the sample data to get the decision tree classification model. Finally, the fault sample of the hoist brake system is trained to get the algorithm model, and then the fault diagnosis rules are generated. The state of the brake system is judged by classifying the data. Experiments show that the improved C4.5 decision tree algorithm takes the relativity of conditional attributes into account, has a higher diagnostic accuracy when processing more data, and has concise and clear fault classification rules, which can meet the needs of hoist fault diagnosis.

Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), which catalyzes the breakdown of the essential amino acid tryptophan into kynurenine, is understood to have a key role in cancer immunotherapy. IDO has also received more attention because of its non-immune functions including regulating angiogenesis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of IDO on microvessel density (MVD), and to explore its prognostic role in breast cancer. We showed IDO expression was positively correlated with MVD labeled by CD105 (MVD-CD105) rather than MVD labeled by CD31 (MVD-CD31) in breast cancer specimens. Both IDO expression and MVD-CD105 level were associated with initial TNM stage, histological grade, and tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLNs) metastasis in breast cancer. In the prognostic analysis, TDLNs metastasis, an advanced TNM stage (III) and high histological grade (III) significantly predicted shorter survival in univariate analysis. Concentrating on IDO and MVD, the patients with IDO expression or high MVD level had poorer prognosis compared with no IDO expression [P = 0.047 for progress-free survival (PFS)] and low MVD level (P = 0.019 for OS); the patients with IDO expression and high MVD level had a tendency with shorter overall survival when compared with non IDO expression, low MVD level, or both (P = 0.062 for OS). In multivariate analysis, an advanced TNM stage (III) was significantly associated with shorter 5-year survival rate of PFS (HR: 0.126, 95% CI: 0.024–0.669, P = 0.015). In order to verify the phenomenon of IDO promoting angiogenesis, we contained the study in vitro. We detected the expression of IDO mRNA in breast cancer cell lines and measured the concentration of tryptophan and kynurenine in the supernatants of MCF-7 by high performance liquid chromatography. The ratio of Kyn and trp (kyn/trp) was calculated to estimate IDO-enzyme activity. MCF-7 cells, which produce high level of IDO and metabolize tryptophan, promoted human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) proliferation significantly in co-culture system. Meanwhile IDO could upregulate the expression of CD105 in HUVEC, which was downregulated after adding IDO inhibitor, 1-methyl-d-trytophan. These results suggest that IDO could promote angiogenesis in breast cancer, providing a novel, potentially effective molecular or gene therapy target for angiogenesis inhibition in the future.

In this paper, we propose weighted h-index h w and h-index strength s h to measure spreading capability and identify the most influential spreaders. Experimental results on twelve real networks reveal that s h was more accurate and more monotonic than h w and four previous measures in ranking the spreading influence of a node evaluated by the single seed SIR spreading model. We point out that the questions of how to improve monotonicity and how to determine a proper neighborhood range are two interesting future directions.

Contraflow is a common traffic strategy used to improve the capacity of outbound roads during mass evacuation. Previous studies have focused on the contraflow network configuration, travel time, and number of evacuated vehicles on a macroscopic level. Only a few researchers have considered microscopic factors, such as the contraflow characteristics and moving bottlenecks caused by coaches and trucks. In this study, the effects of the contraflow strategy were investigated through field experiments and traffic simulations. Traffic data were collected from highway segments where trucks were forbidden under regular and contraflow conditions for analysis of the traffic characteristics and the effects of coach moving bottlenecks. The results demonstrate that the capacity and flow speed of contraflow lanes are lower than normal lanes, owing to the narrow cross sections and unfamiliar driving environment. The moving bottlenecks also reduced the speed of passenger car platoons by approximately 5−20 km/h. Four different contraflow schemes were developed and evaluated by Vissim to examine their effectiveness for minimizing the effect of truck moving bottlenecks. The findings revealed an obvious negative effect of trucks on the performance of the contraflow strategy, indicating the need for specific schemes when the truck ratio is large.

A boundedly rational user equilibrium model with restricted unused routes (R-BRUE) considering the restrictions of both used route cost and unused route cost is proposed. The proposed model hypothesizes that for each OD pair no traveler can reduce his/her travel time by an indifference band by unilaterally changing route. Meanwhile, no route is unutilized if its travel time is lower than sum of indifference band and the shortest route cost. The largest and smallest used route sets are defined using mathematical expression. We also show that, with the increase of the indifference band, the largest and smallest used route sets will be augmented, and the critical values of indifference band to augment these two path sets are identified by solving the mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints. Based on the largest and smallest used route sets, the R-BRUE route set without paradoxical route is generated. The R-BRUE solution set can then be obtained by assigning all traffic demands to the corresponding generated route set. Various numerical examples are also provided to illustrate the essential ideas of the proposed model and structure of R-BRUE route flow solution set.

Social media, regarded as two-layer networks consisting of users and items, turn out to be the most important channels for access to massive information in the era of Web 2.0. The dynamics of human activity and item popularity is a crucial issue in social media networks. In this paper, by analyzing the growth of user activity and item popularity in four empirical social media networks, i.e., Amazon, Flickr, Delicious and Wikipedia, it is found that cross links between users and items are more likely to be created by active users and to be acquired by popular items, where user activity and item popularity are measured by the number of cross links associated with users and items. This indicates that users generally trace popular items, overall. However, it is found that the inactive users more severely trace popular items than the active users. Inspired by empirical analysis, we propose an evolving model for such networks, in which the evolution is driven only by two-step random walk. Numerical experiments verified that the model can qualitatively reproduce the distributions of user activity and item popularity observed in empirical networks. These results might shed light on the understandings of micro dynamics of activity and popularity in social media networks.

In the present study, the microneme 5 gene of Eimeria acervulina (E. acervulina) (EaMIC5) was cloned and characterized. Specific primers for the rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) were designed based on the expressed sequence tag (EST, GenBank Accession No. EH386430.1) to amplify the 3'- and 5'-ends of EaMIC5. The full length cDNA of this gene was obtained by overlapping the sequences of 3'- and 5'-extremities and amplification by reverse transcription PCR. Sequence analysis revealed that the open reading frame (ORF) of EaMIC5 was 336 bp and encoded a protein of 111 amino acids with 12.18 kDa. The ORF was inserted into pET-32a (+) to produce recombinant EaMIC5. Using western blotting assay, the recombinant protein was successfully recognized by the sera of chicks experimentally infected with E. acervulina, while the native protein in the somatic extract of sporozoites was as well detected by sera from rats immunized with the recombinant protein of EaMIC5. Immunofluorescence analysis using antibody against recombinant protein EaMIC5 indicated that this protein was expressed in the sporozoites and merozoites stages of E. acervulina. Animal challenge experiments demonstrated that the recombinant protein of EaMIC5 could significantly increase the average body weight gains, decrease the mean lesion scores and the oocyst outputs of the immunized chickens, and presented anti-coccidial index (ACI) more than 160. All the above results suggested that the EaMIC5 was a novel E. acervulina antigen and could be an effective candidate for the development of a new vaccine against this parasite.

We investigate physical states of spin-1 Bose--Einstein condensate in R³ with mean-field interaction constant c0 and spin-exchange interaction constant c1, two conserved quantities, the number of atoms N, and the total magnetization M are involved in. First, in the free case, existence and asymptotic behavior of ground states are analyzed according to the relations among c0, c1, N, and M. Furthermore, we show that the corresponding standing wave is strongly unstable. When the atoms are trapped in a harmonic potential, we prove the existence of ground states and excited states along with some precisely asymptotics. Besides, we get that the set of ground states is stable under the associated Cauchy flow while the excited state corresponds to a strongly unstable standing wave. Our results not only show some characteristics of three-dimensional spin-1 BEC under the effect between the spin-dependent interaction and the external magnetic field, but also support some experimental observations as well as numerical results on spin-1 BEC. Cochlear implantation (CI) offers a dependable treatment for sensorineural hearing loss, with precision electroacoustic stimulation parameters showing great potential in improving auditory outcomes in CI patients. Here, we report the attachment of MXene into CI systems which effectively mimic the neural electrode interface due to MXene's excellent electrical conductivity and biocompatibility. Low-frequency short-term biphasic electrical pulses emitted by the MXenes-based CI promoted the outgrowth of spiral ganglion neuron (SGN) neurites and growth cones, substantially boosting the calcium activity in SGNs. This study lays a theoretical foundation for the precision medicine approaches in CI patient care, and informs the selection of materials for cochlear implant electrode materials in the future.
