2. Intellectual Capital Measurement in Higher Education Institutions Context from the Professors Perspective

- Abstract
Intellectual capital has aroused growing interest in higher education; however, one area for improvement in its study is how to measure it adequately. Therefore, it is necessary to have instruments based on current models of intellectual capital. This study aims to design and validate an intellectual capital measurement scale in accredited higher education institutions (HEIs) from the perspective of professors. The study was instrumental because a measurement scale was developed. The sample consisted of 341 professors from six accredited HEIs on the Colombian Caribbean Coast. The statistical analysis consisted of three stages: item analysis, collection of validity evidence based on the internal structure and the relationship with other variables, and reliability analysis using the internal consistency method. The scale's internal structure corroborated intellectual capital composition based on human, structural, and relational components. Regarding convergent evidence, all variables possess this source of validity evidence. Reliability levels were also good. Previously, an instrument has yet to be developed those measures intellectual capital in HEIs from the perspective of professors. This study provides a scale that focuses on the characteristics of this stakeholder and is based on an innovative model of intellectual capital composed of human, structural, and relational capital. The theoretical contribution of the study lies in developing a test based on two current models of intellectual capital: the Intellectus model and the Balanced Scorecard model. It also contributes to practice by providing a tool for measuring intellectual capital that allows its adequate management, improvement, and decision-making within higher education.

Tree growth and longevity trade-offs fundamentally shape the terrestrial carbon balance. Yet, we lack a unified understanding of how such trade-offs vary across the world's forests. By mapping life history traits for a wide range of species across the Americas, we reveal considerable variation in life expectancies from 10 centimeters in diameter (ranging from 1.3 to 3195 years) and show that the pace of life for trees can be accurately classified into four demographic functional types. We found emergent patterns in the strength of trade-offs between growth and longevity across a temperature gradient. Furthermore, we show that the diversity of life history traits varies predictably across forest biomes, giving rise to a positive relationship between trait diversity and productivity. Our pan-latitudinal assessment provides new insights into the demographic mechanisms that govern the carbon turnover rate across forest biomes.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies (re-)shape modern life, driving innovation in a wide range of sectors. However, some AI systems have yielded unexpected or undesirable outcomes or have been used in questionable manners. As a result, there has been a surge in public and academic discussions about aspects that AI systems must fulfill to be considered trustworthy. In this paper, we synthesize existing conceptualizations of trustworthy AI along six requirements: 1) human agency and oversight, 2) fairness and non-discrimination, 3) transparency and explainability, 4) robustness and accuracy, 5) privacy and security, and 6) accountability. For each one, we provide a definition, describe how it can be established and evaluated, and discuss requirement-specific research challenges. Finally, we conclude this analysis by identifying overarching research challenges across the requirements with respect to 1) interdisciplinary research, 2) conceptual clarity, 3) context-dependency, 4) dynamics in evolving systems, and 5) investigations in real-world contexts. Thus, this paper synthesizes and consolidates a wide-ranging and active discussion currently taking place in various academic sub-communities and public forums. 5. Terahertz control of surface topology probed with subatomic resolution

Light-induced phase transitions offer a method to dynamically modulate topological states in bulk complex materials. Yet, next-generation devices demand nanoscale architectures with contact resistances near the quantum limit and precise control over local electronic properties. The layered material WTe$_2$ has gained attention as a likely Weyl semimetal, with topologically protected linear electronic band crossings hosting massless chiral fermions. Here, we demonstrate a topological phase transition facilitated by light-induced shear motion of a single atomic layer at the surface of bulk WTe$_2$, thereby opening the door to nanoscale device concepts. Ultrafast terahertz fields enhanced at the apex of an atomically sharp tip resonantly couple to the key interlayer shear mode of WTe$_2$ via a ferroelectric dipole at the interface, inducing a structural phase transition at the surface to a metastable state. Subatomically resolved differential imaging, combined with hybrid-level density functional theory, reveals a shift of 7 $\pm$ 3 picometres in the top atomic plane. Tunnelling spectroscopy links electronic changes across the phase transition with the electron and hole pockets in the band structure, suggesting a reversible, light-induced annihilation of the topologically-protected Fermi arc surface states in the top atomic layer.

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) operations are expected to transform air transportation while challenging current air traffic management practices. By introducing a novel market-based mechanism, we address the problem of on-demand allocation of capacity-constrained airspace to AAM vehicles with heterogeneous and private valuations. We model airspace and air infrastructure as a collection of contiguous regions with constraints on the number of vehicles that simultaneously enter, stay, or exit each region. Vehicles request access to the airspace with trajectories spanning multiple regions at different times. We use the graph structure of our airspace model to formulate the allocation problem as a path allocation problem on a time-extended graph. To ensure the cost information of AAM vehicles remains private, we introduce a novel mechanism that allocates each vehicle a budget of "air-credits" and anonymously charges prices for traversing the edges of the time-extended graph. We seek to compute a competitive equilibrium that ensures that: (i) capacity constraints are satisfied, (ii) a strictly positive resource price implies that the sector capacity is fully utilized, and (iii) the allocation is integral and optimal for each AAM vehicle given current prices, without requiring access to individual vehicle utilities. However, a competitive equilibrium with integral allocations may not always exist. We provide sufficient conditions for the existence and computation of a fractional-competitive equilibrium, where allocations can be fractional. Building on these theoretical insights, we propose a distributed, iterative, two-step algorithm that: 1) computes a fractional competitive equilibrium, and 2) derives an integral allocation from this equilibrium. 7. Extreme events at the onset of epileptic-like chimeras in small-world networks of FitzHugh-Nagumo neurons

In this work, we investigate the dynamics of complex networks of FitzHugh-Nagumo excitable oscillators, focusing on the impact of coupling strength, network size, and randomness on their collective dynamics. Considering Watts-Strogatz small-world network connectivities, the system exhibits three distinct dynamical phases: chaotic, intermittent, and synchronized, with the intermittent phase displaying transient, epileptic-like chimera states. We analyse the transition to synchronisation by means of the master stability function, and show that peaks in the proportion of extreme events of synchronisation, which correlate with the behaviour of the largest Lyapunov exponent of the system, precede the transitions between the distinct dynamical regimes and mark the onset of epileptic-like chimera states. Our findings contribute to a broader understanding of synchronisation in excitable systems real neural networks and offer insights into the conditions that may lead to pathological epileptic-like states. 8. Double Descent Meets Out-of-Distribution Detection: Theoretical Insights and Empirical Analysis on the role of model complexity

While overparameterization is known to benefit generalization, its impact on Out-Of-Distribution (OOD) detection is less understood. This paper investigates the influence of model complexity in OOD detection. We propose an expected OOD risk metric to evaluate classifiers confidence on both training and OOD samples. Leveraging Random Matrix Theory, we derive bounds for the expected OOD risk of binary least-squares classifiers applied to Gaussian data. We show that the OOD risk depicts an infinite peak, when the number of parameters is equal to the number of samples, which we associate with the double descent phenomenon. Our experimental study on different OOD detection methods across multiple neural architectures extends our theoretical insights and highlights a double descent curve. Our observations suggest that overparameterization does not necessarily lead to better OOD detection. Using the Neural Collapse framework, we provide insights to better understand this behavior. To facilitate reproducibility, our code will be made publicly available upon publication.

9. Insulating moir\'e homobilayers lack a threefold symmetric second harmonic generation

Atoms within moir\'e bilayers relax in-plane to minimize elastic energy [e.g., Cazeaux et al., J. Elast. 154, 443 (2023)]; such relaxation brings their space group symmetries down to P1. Here, the ab initio second harmonic generation (SHG) of twisted and atomistically optimized hBN bilayers was determined at four twist angles ($\theta=38.21^{\circ}$, $60.00^{\circ}$, $73.17^{\circ}$, and $98.21^{\circ}$) and for three displacements $\boldsymbol{\tau}$ measured away from the ground state $AA^{\prime}$ configuration. All moir\'e bilayers have a P1 space symmetry after structural optimization. This situation is quite different to monolayers with hexagonal lattices, which retain a three-fold symmetry. We point out that the actual symmetries of the SHG reported for hBN bilayers on two experimental works do not coincide with the sixfold symmetric theoretical profiles they provide [either $\sin^2(3\phi)$ or $\cos^2(3\phi)$], and show that the intrinsic low structural symmetry of (atomically optimized) hBN bilayer moir\'es can in fact be read out from experimental SHG intensity profiles--which are tunable by $\theta$ and by the frequency of light $\omega$: The SHG is most definitely not sixfold-symmetric because moir\'es do not retain a three-fold symmetry. Furthermore, an extrinsic twofold symmetry of the SHG emission is realized by tilting the pump by an angle $\alpha$ away from the 2D material's normal, regardless of $\theta$ and $\omega$. We report results of a search for nuclear recoils induced by weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter using the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) two-phase xenon time projection chamber. This analysis uses a total exposure of $4.2\pm0.1$ tonne-years from 280 live days of LZ operation, of which $3.3\pm0.1$ tonne-years and 220 live days are new. A technique to actively tag background electronic recoils from $^{214}$Pb $\beta$ decays is featured for the first time. Enhanced electron-ion recombination is observed in two-neutrino double electron capture decays of $^{124}$Xe, representing a noteworthy new background. After removal of artificial signal-like events injected into the data set to mitigate analyzer bias, we find no evidence for an excess over expected backgrounds. World-leading constraints are placed on spin-independent (SI) and spin-dependent WIMP-nucleon cross sections for masses $\geq$9 GeV/$c^2$. The strongest SI exclusion set is $2.1\times10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ at the 90% confidence level at a mass of 36 GeV/$c^2$, and the best SI median sensitivity achieved is $5.0\times10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a mass of 40 GeV/$c^2$., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures. The use of Autonomous Surface Vehicles, equipped with water quality sensors and artificial vision systems, allows for a smart and adaptive deployment in water resources environmental monitoring. This paper presents a real implementation of a vehicle prototype that to address the use of Artificial Intelligence algorithms and enhanced sensing techniques for water quality monitoring. The vehicle is fully equipped with high-quality sensors to measure water quality parameters and water depth. Furthermore, by means of a stereo-camera, it also can detect and locate macro-plastics in real environments by means of deep visual models, such as YOLOv5. In this paper, experimental results, carried out in Lago Mayor (Sevilla), has been presented as proof of the capabilities of the proposed architecture. The overall system, and the early results obtained, are expected to provide a solid example of a real platform useful for the water resource monitoring task, and to serve as a real case scenario for deploying Artificial Intelligence algorithms, such as path planning, artificial vision, etc.

The PlasmaKristall-4 experiment on the International Space Station allows for the study of the 3-dimensional interaction between plasma and dust particles. Previous simulations of the PK-4 environment have discovered fast moving ionization waves in the dc discharge[1]. These ionization waves vary the plasma parameters by up to an order of magnitude, which may affect the mechanisms responsible for the self-organization of chains seen in the PK-4 experiment. Here, we adapt a molecular dynamics simulation to employ temporally varying plasma conditions in order to investigate the effect on the dust charging and electrostatic potential. In order to describe the differences between the average of the plasma conditions and the time-varying plasma condition, we present a model to reproduce the potential that takes into account the negative potential from the dust grain and the positive potential from the ion wake., Comment: The following article has been submitted to Physics of Plasmas

Large language models (LLMs) have revolutionized how we interact with technology, but their personalization to individual user preferences remains a significant challenge, particularly in on-device applications. Traditional methods often depend heavily on labeled datasets and can be resource-intensive. To address these issues, we present Adaptive Self-Supervised Learning Strategies (ASLS), which utilizes self-supervised learning techniques to personalize LLMs dynamically. The framework comprises a user profiling layer for collecting interaction data and a neural adaptation layer for real-time model fine-tuning. This innovative approach enables continuous learning from user feedback, allowing the model to generate responses that align closely with user-specific contexts. The adaptive mechanisms of ASLS minimize computational demands and enhance personalization efficiency. We present a computational framework for obtaining multidimensional phase-space solutions of systems of non-linear coupled differential equations, using high-order implicit Runge-Kutta Physics- Informed Neural Networks (IRK-PINNs) schemes. Building upon foundational work originally solving differential equations for fields depending on coordinates [J. Comput. Phys. 378, 686 (2019)], we adapt the scheme to a context where the coordinates are treated as functions. This modification enables us to efficiently solve equations of motion for a particle in an external field. Our scheme is particularly useful for explicitly time-independent and periodic fields. In this paper, we explore accelerating Hamiltonian ground state energy calculation on NISQ devices. We suggest using search-based methods together with machine learning to accelerate quantum algorithms, exemplified in the Quantum Eigensolver use case. We trained two small models on classically mined data from systems with up to 16 qubits, using XGBoost's Python regressor. We evaluated our preliminary approach on 20-, 24- and 28-qubit systems by optimising the Eigensolver's hyperparameters. These models predict hyperparameter values, leading to a 0.13\%-0.15\% reduction in error when tested on 28-qubit systems. However, due to inconclusive results with 20- and 24-qubit systems, we suggest further examination of the training data based on Hamiltonian characteristics. In future work, we plan to train machine learning models to optimise other aspects or subroutines of quantum algorithm execution beyond its hyperparameters.

The in-vivo identification of the kidney stone types during an ureteroscopy would be a major medical advance in urology, as it could reduce the time of the tedious renal calculi extraction process, while diminishing infection risks. Furthermore, such an automated procedure would make possible to prescribe anti-recurrence treatments immediately. Nowadays, only few experienced urologists are able to recognize the kidney stone types in the images of the videos displayed on a screen during the endoscopy. Thus, several deep learning (DL) models have recently been proposed to automatically recognize the kidney stone types using ureteroscopic images. However, these DL models are of black box nature whicl limits their applicability in clinical settings. This contribution proposes a case-based reasoning DL model which uses prototypical parts (PPs) and generates local and global descriptors. The PPs encode for each class (i.e., kidney stone type) visual feature information (hue, saturation, intensity and textures) similar to that used by biologists. The PPs are optimally generated due a new loss function used during the model training. Moreover, the local and global descriptors of PPs allow to explain the decisions ("what" information, "where in the images") in an understandable way for biologists and urologists. The proposed DL model has been tested on a database including images of the six most widespread kidney stone types. The overall average classification accuracy was 90.37. When comparing this results with that of the eight other DL models of the kidney stone state-of-the-art, it can be seen that the valuable gain in explanability was not reached at the expense of accuracy which was even slightly increased with respect to that (88.2) of the best method of the literature. We report the first measurement of the azimuthal anisotropy of J$/\psi$ at forward rapidity ($1.2<|\eta|<2.2$) in Au$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The data were collected by the PHENIX experiment in 2014 and 2016 with integrated luminosity of 14.5~nb$^{-1}$. The second Fourier coefficient ($v_2$) of the azimuthal distribution of $J/\psi$ is determined as a function of the transverse momentum ($p_T$) using the event-plane method. The measurements were performed for several selections of collision centrality: 0\%--50\%, 10\%--60\%, and 10\%-40\%. We find that in all cases the values of $v_2(p_T)$, which quantify the elliptic flow of J$/\psi$, are consistent with zero. The results are consistent with measurements at midrapidity, indicating no significant elliptic flow of the J$/\psi$ within the quark-gluon-plasma medium at collision energies of $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV., Comment: 369 authors from 72 institutions, 12 pages, 7 figures, 5 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C. Recently, Gheibi, Jorgensen, and Takahashi introduced a new homological invariant called quasi-projective dimension, which is a generalization of projective dimension. They proved that the depth formula holds for two finitely gene\-rated Tor-independent modules over a Noetherian local ring when one of the modules has finite quasi-projective dimension. In this paper, we extend this result by pro\-ving that for finitely generated modules \( M \) and \( N \) over a Noetherian local ring \( R \) with \( \operatorname{qpd}_R M < \infty \), the equality \( \operatorname{depth} N = \operatorname{depth}(\operatorname{Tor}_q^R(M,N)) + \operatorname{qpd}_R M - q \) holds, where \( q := \sup\{ i \geq 0 : \operatorname{Tor}_i^R(M,N) \neq 0 \} \), provided that \( q < \infty \), and either \( q = 0 \) or \( \operatorname{depth}(\operatorname{Tor}_q^R(M,N)) \leq 1 \). This outcome generalizes a celebrated theorem by Auslander and allows us to derive new consequences and applications, for instance, we recover an important theorem of Araya and Yoshino., Comment: 10 pages, comments and suggestions are welcome. 20. A framework for measuring the training efficiency of a neural architecture

Measuring Efficiency in neural network system development is an open research problem. This paper presents an experimental framework to measure the training efficiency of a neural architecture. To demonstrate our approach, we analyze the training efficiency of Convolutional Neural Networks and Bayesian equivalents on the MNIST and CIFAR-10 tasks. Our results show that training efficiency decays as training progresses and varies across different stopping criteria for a given neural model and learning task. We also find a non-linear relationship between training stopping criteria, training Efficiency, model size, and training Efficiency. Furthermore, we illustrate the potential confounding effects of overtraining on measuring the training efficiency of a neural architecture. Regarding relative training efficiency across different architectures, our results indicate that CNNs are more efficient than BCNNs on both datasets. More generally, as a learning task becomes more complex, the relative difference in training efficiency between different architectures becomes more pronounced.

We present an open source Python library for simulating overlapping (i.e., blended) images of galaxies and performing self-consistent comparisons of detection and deblending algorithms based on a suite of metrics. The package, named Blending Toolkit (BTK), serves as a modular, flexible, easy-to-install, and simple-to-use interface for exploring and analyzing systematic effects related to blended galaxies in cosmological surveys such as the Vera Rubin Observatory Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST). BTK has three main components: (1) a set of modules that perform fast image simulations of blended galaxies, using the open source image simulation package GalSim; (2) a module that standardizes the inputs and outputs of existing deblending algorithms; (3) a library of deblending metrics commonly defined in the galaxy deblending literature. In combination, these modules allow researchers to explore the impacts of galaxy blending in cosmological surveys. Additionally, BTK provides researchers who are developing a new deblending algorithm a framework to evaluate algorithm performance and make principled comparisons with existing deblenders. We examine 4 years of Kepler 30-min data, and 5 Sectors of TESS 2-min data for the dM3 star KIC-8507979/TIC-272272592. This rapidly rotating (P=1.2 day) star has previously been identified as flare active, with a possible long-term decline in its flare output. Such slow changes in surface magnetic activity are potential indicators of Solar-like activity cycles, which can yield important information about the structure of the stellar dynamo. We find that while TIC-272272592 shows evidence for both short and long timescale variations in its flare activity, it is unlikely physically motivated. Only a handful of stars have been subjected to such long baseline point-in-time flare studies, and we urge caution in comparing results between telescopes due to differences in bandpass, signal to noise, and cadence. In this work, we develop an approach to measure variations in the flare frequency distributions over time, which is quantified as a function of the observing baseline. For TIC-272272592, we find a $2.7\sigma$ detection of a Sector which has a flare deficit, therefore indicating the short term variation could be a result of sampling statistics. This quantifiable approach to describing flare rate variation is a powerful new method for measuring the months-to-years changes in surface magnetic activity, and provides important constraints on activity cycles and dynamo models for low mass stars., Comment: Accepted to AAS Journals, 12 pages, 9 Figures and 1 Table

The $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ charmonium states, composed of $c\bar{c}$ quark pairs and known since the 1970s, are widely believed to serve as ideal probes to test quantum chromodynamics in high-energy hadronic interactions. However, there is not yet a complete understanding of the charmonium-production mechanism. Recent measurements of $J/\psi$ production as a function of event charged-particle multiplicity at the collision energies of both the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) show enhanced $J/\psi$ production yields with increasing multiplicity. One potential explanation for this type of dependence is multiparton interactions (MPI). We carry out the first measurements of self-normalized $J/\psi$ yields and the $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio at both forward and backward rapidities as a function of self-normalized charged-particle multiplicity in $p$$+$$p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV. In addition, detailed {\sc pythia} studies tuned to RHIC energies were performed to investigate the MPI impacts. We find that the PHENIX data at RHIC are consistent with recent LHC measurements and can only be described by {\sc pythia} calculations that include MPI effects. The forward and backward $\psi(2S)$ to $J/\psi$ ratio, which serves as a unique and powerful approach to study final-state effects on charmonium production, is found to be less dependent on the charged-particle multiplicity., Comment: 301 authors from 69 institutions, 8 pages, 3 figures. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review D Letters. Connected Autonomous Vehicles have great potential to improve automobile safety and traffic flow, especially in cooperative applications where perception data is shared between vehicles. However, this cooperation must be secured from malicious intent and unintentional errors that could cause accidents. Previous works typically address singular security or reliability issues for cooperative driving in specific scenarios rather than the set of errors together. In this paper, we propose CONClave, a tightly coupled authentication, consensus, and trust scoring mechanism that provides comprehensive security and reliability for cooperative perception in autonomous vehicles. CONClave benefits from the pipelined nature of the steps such that faults can be detected significantly faster and with less compute. Overall, CONClave shows huge promise in preventing security flaws, detecting even relatively minor sensing faults, and increasing the robustness and accuracy of cooperative perception in CAVs while adding minimal overhead., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, Design Automation Conference June 2024

25. The Use of Variation Theory of Learning in Teaching Solving Right Triangles

- Abstract
Teachers are often perplexed realizing students ending up with different understandings of the same lesson after attending the same class. This study investigates the use of Variation Theory as a pedagogical design tool in improving students' problem-solving skills in trigonometry. This action research utilizing the 'Learning Study' approach was conducted in a Filipino-Chinese private school in a highly urbanized city in the Philippines. Two Grade 10 intact classes consisting of a total of 41 students and three mathematics teachers participated in the learning study. Selected students were interviewed to validate students' intended and lived objects of learning. The video-recorded lessons were examined to determine the alignment of the intended and enacted objects of learning. The analysis of the pretest and posttest showed the use of different patterns of variation and invariance in teaching was able to address students' misconceptions and difficulties in solving right triangles and helped the students understand problems better. Thus, the Variation Theory of learning as a pedagogical design tool is deemed effective in improving the students' knowledge, procedural, and problem-solving skills, and in bridging the gap between the intended objects of learning and the lived objects of learning.

26. The Use of Technology and Academic Performance in the Teaching of Mathematics in Secondary Education

- Abstract
Technological resources in secondary education have had problems in their implementation, especially in public institutions, this has caused teachers to keep traditional learning methodologies, with minimal alternatives to use active methodologies due to the limited access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The present research aims to analyze the use of technology and academic performance in the teaching of Mathematics in the Joaquín Lalama Educational Unit. The methodology applied had a quantitative approach, with a pre-experimental experimental design and a pretest and post-test level of analysis, with the participation of 58 first and second year high school students; direct observation and inquiry were used as techniques. The results obtained indicated that 86.2% of the students consider that they learn better when the teacher uses a traditional class; 93.1% stated that they would like to learn Mathematics with the use of technology; on the other hand, 24% of the students mentioned that teachers never use a scientific calculator in their classes and 71% and 79% stated that teachers rarely or never use a projector or software, respectively. For the application of inferential statistics according to the characteristics of the variables and the hypotheses proposed, Student's t-test for related samples was used, obtaining p-values of less than 0.05, which means that the use of technology through the application of Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) establishes significant differences in the academic performance of students. The IBL has generated an increase in academic performance at the time of the pretest and post-test analysis; 0.696 points in the average.

27. The Impact of Youglish on English Speaking Proficiency in Higher Education

The era of globalization and information and knowledge in which we find ourselves requires Higher Education to develop English-speaking proficiency in its students to adequately respond to academic and occupational challenges, taking advantage of the virtues of the variety of resources offered by technology. YouGlish is an online oral dictionary whose features can be leveraged for the development of Englishspeaking proficiency. This study aims to determine the impact of using YouGlish on English speaking proficiency in its subskills of fluency, grammatical appropriateness, pronunciation, communicative interaction, and vocabulary. The research was of quasi-experimental design and was carried out with a sample of 38 students, 19 students in the Control Group and 19 students in the Experimental Group, from a national university in Peru. For data collection, a pre-test and a post-test were applied concerning English-speaking proficiency, and a perception questionnaire on the use of YouGlish was also used. The arithmetic mean indicates that there was an improvement of 45.26 points using YouGlish when comparing the input and output tests. Thus, concluding with an increase in English-speaking proficiency among university students.

This study explores the employee retention strategies implemented by administrators in educational institutions, focusing on Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc. The qualitative case study involved 10 participants, including administrators and employees selected based on stable tenure and appropriate qualifications. Through face-to-face interviews, key determinants influencing retention, such as teacher satisfaction, job contentment, professional growth, and loyalty, were identified. Recognition and incentives emerged as the primary retention strategy, significantly influencing employee satisfaction and fostering a sense of belonging. The study concludes that these strategies are effective, contributing to the retention of skilled professionals. Recommendations emphasize the importance of recognizing and providing incentives as core strategies for administrators in educational settings, recognizing their role in creating a positive work environment and promoting sustained employee commitment. The findings at ICCBI underscore the observed effectiveness of these strategies.

29. Preschool Children's Adherence to the 24-Hour Physical Activity Guidelines: A Systematic Review Comparing the Sexes

- Abstract
Objective: Physical activity (PA) is essential to promote both optimal physical and emotional health in preschool children. Hence, well-founded PA guidelines are essential. 24-hour Movement Guidelines (which include PA, recreational screen time and sleep) have been established. Thus, this study aimed to explore preschool-aged children's adherence to the 24-hour PA guidelines assessed using microelectromechanical systems, and whether sex was a determining factor for meeting the guidelines. Method: A systematic review of relevant published articles was carried out using four databases (PubMed, ProQuest, SCOPUS, FECYT) up until April, 2023. Results: From a total of 519 studies initially located, 48 were included in our synthesis. Of the studies analysed for this review, 7 showed results below 30% compliance with the PA guidelines, 19 below 70%, and 22 from 70% to 100%. In terms of sex differences, the studies analysed in the review suggested that boys are more likely to meet PA guidelines than girls. There exists controversy about adherence to PA levels as age increases. Several studies have shown an increase in the early years (1-5) while others, although to a lesser extent, have found that total PA remained stable or decreased from 3 to 5 years. Conclusion: In the light of these findings, more research is needed to better understand trends in PA during the preschool years and the factors that influence them. In the meantime, promoting regular PA and reducing recreational screen time remain key priorities for the health and development of preschool-aged children.

30. Digital Learning for Preschools: Validation of Basic ICT Competence Beliefs of Preschool Teachers in Hong Kong and the Philippines

- Abstract
With technology integration efforts expanding to early childhood education globally, assessing preschool teachers' technological competence beliefs is imperative. However, most existing tools measuring teachers' information and communication technology (ICT) competence beliefs focused on primary through secondary grades. This study examined the factorial validity, reliability, and measurement invariance of the Basic ICT Competence Beliefs (BICB) questionnaire among 209 preschool teachers in Hong Kong and the Philippines. Confirmatory factor analyses supported the original nine-factor structure over plausible alternative models. All factors showed good reliability ([alpha] = 0.83 to 0.91) and theoretically meaningful factor intercorrelations. Multigroup CFA results supported the measurement invariance of the scale. Specifically, the results demonstrated the configural, metric, scalar, and strict invariance across cultural groups. Findings provide further validity for the BICB as a psychometrically sound instrument for assessing preschool teachers' ICT competence beliefs within and across contexts. The BICB can help identify teacher strengths and needs, guide professional development, and evaluate technology integration efforts in early childhood education in Asia.

31. Literary Responses in Spanish Adolescents: Adaptation, Validation, and Analysis of the Literary Response Questionnaire

- Abstract
This study involves translating, cross-culturally adapting, and validating the "Literary Response Questionnaire" (LRQ) for 413 Spanish adolescents. It explores the evolution of literary education in Spain and its alignment with the Reading Responses paradigm. The LRQ, adapted across various locations, is validated in Spanish through Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The research analyzes reading responses in dimensions like Leisure Escape, Insight, Empathy, Story-driven Reading, Concern with Author, Imagery Vividness, and Rejecting Literary Values. Findings reveal widespread indifference and rejection toward literary reading among the adolescents, along with a clear disapproval of the historicist-authorial approach to literary education. Significant variations were identified based on students' gender, enrollment in a bilingual program, and notably, the number of books read per year. This underscores the significance of introducing literary reading practices in secondary education that align with the leisure preferences of adolescents, encouraging personal and experiential engagement with texts. This could materialize in the classroom the shift from a historicist to a reader-centered approach suggested by the current Spanish curriculum.

32. Towards a Rasquache Resistance: Conceptualizing Chicanx Youth Subjectivities

In this essay, we conceptualize a rasquache resistance for Chicanx elementary-aged youth. Rasquache resistance are the various performances, comportamientos, estilos, ways of being, manners of speaking, dress, and types of humor that Chicanx youth express and perform that resist white supremacy. Drawing from Chicanx and Black feminisms and Chicanx cultural studies, we conceptualize rasquache resistance through rasquachismo, a concept theorized by Tomás Ybarra-Frausto that identifies the working-class sensibilities of Chicanx communities as an aesthetic rooted in survival, creativity, and cultural production. Our aim is to provide insights for educators who are working alongside students, specifically critical educators who seek to build on the sensibilities that Chicanx youth bring to classroom spaces and schools.

33. Teixobactin Swapmers with l Tail Stereochemistry Retain Antibiotic Activity.

The unusual d-l-l-d-d-l-l pattern of stereochemistry in residues 1-7 of the peptide antibiotic teixobactin is critical to its extraordinary antibiotic activity, creating an unusual amphiphilic β-sheetlike structure that is essential to its mechanism of action. The current study sought to replace the three d-amino acids in the tail with l-amino acids while maintaining amphiphilicity. We find that swapping residues d-Gln4 and d-allo-Ile5 in O-acyl isopeptide prodrugs of teixobactin permits the introduction of l-stereochemistry with retention of antibiotic activity. Nevertheless, modifying the N-terminal stereochemistry results in a loss of antibiotic activity.

Our laboratory reported the chemical synthesis and stereochemical assignment of the recently discovered peptide antibiotic clovibactin. The current paper reports an improved, gram-scale synthesis of the amino acid building block Fmoc-(2R,3R)-3-hydroxyasparagine-OH that enables structure-activity relationship studies of clovibactin. An alanine scan reveals that residues Phe1, d-Leu2, Ser4, Leu7, and Leu8 are important for antibiotic activity. The side-chain amide group of the rare d-Hyn5 residue is not essential to activity and can be replaced with a methyl group with a moderate loss of activity. An acyclic clovibactin analogue reveals that the macrolactone ring is essential to antibiotic activity. The enantiomer of clovibactin is active, albeit somewhat less so than clovibactin. A conformationally constrained clovibactin analogue retains moderate antibiotic activity, while a backbone N-methylated analogue is almost completely inactive. X-ray crystallography of these two analogues reveals that the macrolactone ring adopts a crown-like conformation that binds anions.

Adenosine Deaminases Acting on RNA (ADARs) are members of a family of RNA editing enzymes that catalyze the conversion of adenosine into inosine in double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). ADARs' selective activity on dsRNA presents the ability to correct mutations at the transcriptome level using guiding oligonucleotides. However, this approach is limited by ADARs' preference for specific sequence contexts to achieve efficient editing. Substrates with a guanosine adjacent to the target adenosine in the 5' direction (5'-GA) are edited less efficiently compared to substrates with any other canonical nucleotides at this position. Previous studies showed that a G/purine mismatch at this position results in more efficient editing than a canonical G/C pair. Herein, we investigate a series of modified oligonucleotides containing purine or size-expanded nucleoside analogs on guide strands opposite the 5'-G (-1 position). The results demonstrate that modified adenosine and inosine analogs enhance editing at 5'-GA sites. Additionally, the inclusion of a size-expanded cytidine analog at this position improves editing over a control guide bearing cytidine. High-resolution crystal structures of ADAR:/RNA substrate complexes reveal the manner by which both inosine and size-expanded cytidine are capable of activating editing at 5'-GA sites. Further modification of these altered guide sequences for metabolic stability in human cells demonstrates that the incorporation of specific purine analogs at the -1 position significantly improves editing at 5'-GA sites.

Luminous accretion disks around black holes are expected to have densities of $\sim 10^{15-22}\,$cm$^{-3}$, which are high enough such that plasma physics effects become important. Many of these effects have been traditionally neglected in the calculation of atomic parameters, and therefore from photoionization models, and ultimately also from X-ray reflection models. In this paper, we describe updates to the atomic rates used by the XSTAR code, which is in turn part of the XILLVER disk reflection model. We discuss the effect of adding necessary high density corrections into the XILLVER code. Specifically, we find that the change of recombination rates play an important role, dominating the differences between model versions. With synthetic spectra, we show that even in a highly ionized state, high density slabs can produce strong iron ($\sim$6.5-9$\,$keV) and oxygen ($\sim0.6-0.8\,$keV) resonance features. Let $G$ be a connected graph on $n$ vertices and $1 \le k \le n-1$ an integer. The $k$-token graph of $G$ is the graph $F_k(G)$ whose vertices are all the $k$-subsets of vertices of $G$, two of which are adjacent whenever their symmetric difference is an edge of $G$. Every automorphism of $G$ induces an automorphism of $F_k(G)$ in a natural way. Suppose that $S:=\{x,y\}$ is a cut set of $G$, such that $x$ and $y$ have the same neighbours in $G\setminus \{x,y\}$. In this paper we show that there exist a large number of automorphisms of $F_k(G)$ defined by $S$ that are not induced by automorphisms of $G$. We also describe the group produced by all such $2$-cuts of $G$.

We focus on strongly connected, strong for short, digraphs since in this setting distance is defined for every pair of vertices. Distance ideals generalize the spectrum and Smith normal form of several distance matrices associated with strong digraphs. We introduce the concept of pattern which allow us to characterize the family $\Gamma_1$ of digraphs with only one trivial distance ideal over ${\mathbb Z}$. This result generalizes an analogous result for undirected graphs that states that connected graphs with one trivial ideal over $\mathbb{Z}$ consists of either complete graphs or complete bipartite graphs. It turns out that the strong digraphs in $\Gamma_1$ consists in the circuit with 3 vertices and a family $\Lambda$ of strong digraphs that contains complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs, regarded as digraphs. We also compute all distance ideals of some strong digraphs in the family $\Lambda$. Then, we explore circuits, which turn out to be an infinite family of minimal forbidden digraphs, as induced subdigraphs, for the strong digraphs in $\Gamma_1$. This suggests that a characterization of $\Gamma_1$ in terms of forbidden induced subdigraphs is harder than using patterns., Comment: 18 pages, 10 figures

Many ligands commonly used to prepare nanoparticle catalysts with precise nanoscale features contain nitrogen (e.g., oleylamine); here, we found that the use of nitrogen-containing ligands during the synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticle catalysts substantially impacted product analysis during photocatalytic studies. We confirmed these experimental results via hybrid Density Functional Theory computations of the materials' electronic properties to evaluate their viability as photocatalysts for nitrogen reduction. This nitrogen ligand contamination, and subsequent interference in photocatalytic studies, is avoidable through the careful design of synthetic pathways that exclude nitrogen-containing constituents. This result highlights the urgent need for careful evaluation of catalyst synthesis protocols, as contamination by nitrogen-containing ligands may go unnoticed since the presence of nitrogen is often not detected or probed., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures

An environment interacting with a quantum system can enhance transport through the suppression of quantum effects responsible for localization. In this paper, we study the interplay between bulk dephasing and a linear potential in a boundary-driven tight-binding chain. A linear potential induces Wannier-Stark localization in the absence of noise, while dephasing induces diffusive transport in the absence of a tilt. We derive an approximate expression for the steady-state current as a function of both dephasing and tilt which closely matches the exact solution for a wide range of parameters. From it, we find that the maximum current occurs for a dephasing rate equal to the period of Bloch oscillations in the Wannier-Stark localized system. We also find that the current displays a maximum as a function of the system size, provided that the total potential tilt across the chain remains constant. Our results can be verified in current experimental platforms and represents a step forward in analytical studies of environment-assisted transport., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures

43. Low energy excitations in bosonic quantum quasicrystals

We present the first principles construction of the low-energy effective action for bosonic self-organized quantum quasicrystals. Our generalized elasticity approach retains the appropriate number of phase- and corresponding conjugate density- degrees-of-freedom required for a proper description of the Goldstone modes. For the dodecagonal and decagonal quasicrystal structures we obtain collective longitudinal and transversal excitations with an isotropic speed of sound. Meanwhile, for the octagonal structure, the coupling between phononic and phasonic degrees of freedom leads in turn to hybridization of the latter with the condensate sound mode, producing collective excitations with a longitudinal and transversal component, and an anisotropic speed of sound. We present a dynamic hedging scheme for S&P 500 options, where rebalancing decisions are enhanced by integrating information about the implied volatility surface dynamics. The optimal hedging strategy is obtained through a deep policy gradient-type reinforcement learning algorithm, with a novel hybrid neural network architecture improving the training performance. The favorable inclusion of forward-looking information embedded in the volatility surface allows our procedure to outperform several conventional benchmarks such as practitioner and smiled-implied delta hedging procedures, both in simulation and backtesting experiments.

We explore a system composed of scalar bosons and SU($3$) fermions in one dimension. Considering only local intra- and interspecies interactions, the system is described by the Bose-Fermi-Hubbard Hamiltonian, which is studied using the density matrix renormalization group method. In addition to the common gapless and mixed Mott insulator phases, we identify unknown gapped states, in which bosons couple with some or all flavors of fermions. We unveil different flavor-selective states characterized by itinerant fermions that coexist with an insulator state where the bosons tie with only one- or two-flavor fermions. The recent work of Horikawa and Nakagawa (2024) claims that under a complete market admitting statistical arbitrage, the difference between the hedging position provided by deep hedging and that of the replicating portfolio is a statistical arbitrage. This raises concerns as it entails that deep hedging can include a speculative component aimed simply at exploiting the structure of the risk measure guiding the hedging optimisation problem. We test whether such finding remains true in a GARCH-based market model, which is an illustrative case departing from complete market dynamics. We observe that the difference between deep hedging and delta hedging is a speculative overlay if the risk measure considered does not put sufficient relative weight on adverse outcomes. Nevertheless, a suitable choice of risk measure can prevent the deep hedging agent from engaging in speculation.

An existing challenge in power systems is the implementation of optimal demand management through dynamic pricing. This paper encompasses the design, analysis and implementation of a novel on-line pricing scheme based on coalitional game theory. The setting consists of a network with multiple energy retailers competing to attract consumers by announcing a price in a hierarchical leader-follower structure. The process of coalition formation under such a pricing scheme can be viewed as a game for which we show that a Stackelberg equilibrium exists, \ie given a price, consumers will respond by conforming to a reciprocal power consumption quantity. We propose a coalition formation algorithm and perform a game-theoretic stability analysis on the resulting coalitions. We integrate the pricing setting with a resistive micro-grid dynamic model. In this context we analyse the behaviour of the integrated system, bridging the gap between market and physical layers of the problem. Simulations provide a comparison of profits generated by the proposed scheme against a more traditional single retailer scheme, while simultaneously showing convergence towards a steady-state equilibrium. Additionally, we shed light into the system's physical response when subject to our proposed pricing scheme.

Continuous-variable projective measurements can not select individual measurement results as in the discrete case; instead, the possible outcomes are bounded by the selectivity interval of the measurement; then, it is say that continuous-variable measurement devices are insufficiently selective. By utilizing this concept we show that the probability and fidelity of teleportation in a two-mode cluster state can be handled by the localization of the selectivity interval of the measurement apparatus. Besides, we provide a mathematical expression describing the probability distribution of the measurement outcomes in the two-mode cluster, which is a fundamental solution of the heat equation. In addition, we show that the fidelity of teleportation in the two mode cluster is given by the quotient between the squared solution of a non-homogeneous heat equation and the solution of the conventional heat equation. Furthermore, we extend our approach to a configuration involving successive clusters with intermediate corrections between each teleportation step. This manuscript revisits the phenomenological emergent dark energy model (PEDE) by confronting it with recent cosmological data from early and late times. In particular we analyze PEDE model by using the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements coming from both Dark Energy Spectroscopy Instrument (DESI) data release 1 and Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Additionally, the measurements from cosmic chronometers, supernovae type Ia (Pantheon+), quasars, hydrogen II galaxies and cosmic background radiation distance priors are considered. By performing a Bayesian analysis based on Monte Carlo Markov Chain, we find consistent results on the constraints when SDSS and DESI are considered. However, we find higher values on the Hubble constant than Supernova $H_0$ for the Equation of State (SH0ES) does although it is still in agreement, within $1\sigma$ confidence level, when BAO measurements are added. Furthermore, we estimate the age of the Universe younger $\sim3\%$ than the one predicted by the standard cosmology. Additionally, we report values of $q_0 = -0.771^{+0.007}_{-0.007}$, $z_T = 0.764^{+0.011}_{-0.011}$ for the deceleration parameter today and the deceleration-acceleration transition redshift, respectively. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The PHENIX experiment measured the centrality dependence of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation functions in $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$~GeV Au$+$Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The data are well represented by L\'evy-stable source distributions. The extracted source parameters are the correlation-strength parameter $\lambda$, the L\'evy index of stability $\alpha$, and the L\'evy-scale parameter $R$ as a function of transverse mass $m_T$ and centrality. The $\lambda(m_T)$ parameter is constant at larger values of $m_T$, but decreases as $m_T$ decreases. The L\'evy scale parameter $R(m_T)$ decreases with $m_T$ and exhibits proportionality to the length scale of the nuclear overlap region. The L\'evy exponent $\alpha(m_T)$ is independent of $m_T$ within uncertainties in each investigated centrality bin, but shows a clear centrality dependence. At all centralities, the L\'evy exponent $\alpha$ is significantly different from that of Gaussian ($\alpha=2$) or Cauchy ($\alpha=1$) source distributions. Comparisons to the predictions of Monte-Carlo simulations of resonance-decay chains show that in all but the most peripheral centrality class (50%-60%), the obtained results are inconsistent with the measurements, unless a significant reduction of the in-medium mass of the $\eta'$ meson is included. In each centrality class, the best value of the in-medium $\eta'$ mass is compared to the mass of the $\eta$ meson, as well as to several theoretical predictions that consider restoration of $U_A(1)$ symmetry in hot hadronic matter., Comment: 401 authors from 75 institutions, 20 pages, 15 figures, 2 tables. v1 is version submitted to Physical Review C.
