AIM: To evaluate the shear strength of Orthocem and BracePaste polymerizable cement light‑cured with light‑emitting diode (LED) units with different wavelengths (Bluephase N) with their high power, low power, and soft start programs in the bonding of metal brackets. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In vitro experimental research was performed. Mini Roth 0.022 metal brackets (Roth Orthometric brackets) were used. The adhesives were placed on the metal brackets with Orthocem and BracePaste resin cement. To compare the average strengths, the analysis of variance (ANOVA) test was used (P < 0.05). RESULTS: The average shear strength was better with Bracepaste polymerizable cement compared to Orthocem cement in all its high power, low power, and soft star programs; the highest was Bracepaste with soft start of 26.52 MPa, and the lowest was Orthocem with soft start of 13.92 MPa. When evaluating the differences, it was found that these were statistically significant in all groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Differences were found in the shear strength of light‑curing Orthocem and Bracepaste light‑curing cement cured with LED units with different wavelengths in bonding metal brackets to the tooth in vitro. Aim: To describe the use and applications of activated charcoal (AC) in the manufacture of toothpastes and mouthwashes. Materials and Methods: This narrative review conducted a search for information in the PubMed and Scopus databases. There was no restriction on language, year, or country. We use the following search strategy (“Activated Charcoal” OR “Charcoal Activated” OR “Activated Carbon*”) AND TITLE-ABS-KEY (“Dentifrices” OR “Dentifrice” OR “Dental Polishes” OR “Polishes Dental” OR “Toothpastes” OR “Toothpaste” OR “Mouthwashes” OR “Mouth Rinse” OR “Mouth Rinses” OR “Rinse Mouth” OR “Rinses Mouth” OR “Mouth Bath” OR “Bath Mouth” OR “Baths Mouth” OR “Mouth Baths” OR “Mouth Wash” OR “Wash Mouth”). Results: The literature has so far shown that there are certain changes in the morphology of the enamel surface after tooth brushing with AC. AC is a highly porous compound that can exchange ions through nanopores, adhere to the enamel, and remove stains because it can absorb pigments from the tooth surface. Aim: The aim of this article is to describe the existing scientific literature on photodynamic therapy (PDT) effectiveness for peri-implantitis treatment. Materials and Methods: A date-restricted electronic search strategy was performed in PubMed and Scopus databases. The following words were used: "peri-implant photodynamic therapy," "photodynamic therapy in implantology," "effectives of photodynamic therapy in peri-implantitis," "Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy," "Photodynamic Therapy for the treatment of peri-implantitis," and "Mechanical debridement and photodynamic therapy in implantology." Results: Of the 15 articles, 13 articles were selected, of which 11 were prospective and experimental studies and 2 were longitudinal. The PDT effectiveness of periimplantitis inflammation treatment was the most reported and investigated. Conclusion: There is scientific evidence that may support the use of PDT for peri-implantitis treatments. However, even more studies would still be needed to have solid evidence. Aim: The aim of this review was to describe the scientific progress regarding anticaries or dental caries vaccines. Material and Methods: An electronic search without date restriction prioritizing those scientific articles belonging to the last 5 years was performed in the PubMed and Scopus databases. The following keywords were used: “anticaries vaccine,” “vaccine against dental caries,” and “caries vaccine.” Results: A total of 11 studies were considered for the present investigation, of which seven were in vivo, one was in vitro, two were both in vivo and in vitro, and one was a theoretical article. The most frequently investigated parameter was the induction of antigen-specific antibodies generated by the administration of the different types of anticaries vaccines. Conclusions: More in vivo studies aiming at solving the few disadvantages of the current anticaries vaccines need to be carried out to start studies in human samples in the not-too-distant future. Background: There has recently been a high increase in the prevalence of adolescent pregnancies, especially in developing countries, because they are considered vulnerable populations. The objective of this study was to determine the risk factors for low emotional intelligence and for depression in pregnant Peruvian Andean adolescents seen in a public health centre. Methods: The study was a correlational analysis of 280 pregnant Peruvian Andean adolescents using logistic regression analysis. Emotional intelligence and depression were considered dependent variables, while independent variables were age, marital status, and education. The instruments used were Beck’s Depression Inventory and the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth version. The threshold of significance was P < 0.05. Results: Age, marital status, and level of education were not risk factors for lower emotional intelligence, because they had respective ORs of 0.8 (95% CI: 0.5‑1.4), 1.6 (95% CI: 0.8‑3.4), and 0.7 (95% CI: 0.0‑1.1). Nor were they risk factors for depression, showing ORs of 0.8 (95% CI: 0.4‑1.5), 0.6 (95% CI: 0.2‑1.3), and 0.6 (95% CI: 0.3‑1.1), respectively. Conclusions: Thus, the risk factors studied do not significantly influence emotional intelligence or depression in pregnant Peruvian Andean adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: It has been proven that the linguistic differences between patients and health professionals make access to health care difficult in Latin American countries with a Quechua-speaking population. Therefore, this review focusses on the importance of learning the Quechua language as a useful tool for increasing health access. Materials and Methods: Electronic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed were searched from January 2010 until December 2020 using the Quechua terms for rural population, language barriers, health, and services. Results: This narrative review is based on the importance of learning the Quechua language to reduce the linguistic barrier in medical-dental care and was classified as: (1) Quechua and access to health, (2) the importance of learning Quechua in dental clinical practice, (3) teaching Quechua in universities, and finally, (4) a vocabulary in Quechua is proposed for its application in dental practice. Conclusion: Knowledge of the Quechua language is key to improving medical and dental care in Andean countries; therefore, training in this language should start from undergraduate studies. Objective: The aim of this article is to evaluate the quality of filling in endodontically treated root canals using the lateral condensation technique and modified lateral condensation technique. Materials and Methods: Thirtytwo single-rooted teeth were divided into two groups that were assigned by simple randomization according to the filling technique. Once the endodontic treatment was performed, a periapical radiograph was taken to assess the quality according to the radiographic density and tomography was taken to evaluate the quality according to the tomographic volume of spaces, compared with the post-preparation biomechanical tomography. Finally, we performed a statistical analysis (Student's t-test) to evaluate whether there were differences between the types of filling. Results: Radiographic radiodensity was 182.89 ± 9.81 and 186.72 ± 6.97 HU for teeth treated with the lateral condensation technique and modified lateral condensation technique, respectively. The void volume was 3.75 ± 2.35 and 2.43 ± 1.18 mm3 for teeth treated with the lateral condensation technique and modified lateral condensation technique, respectively. Aim: Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is frequently used for the sterilization of biomaterials in the field of dentistry. The aim of this narrative review is to present the role of CAP in the control of biofilms on titanium surfaces. Materials and Methods: The PubMed, Scopus, and WOS databases were searched to identify scientific articles published between 2010 and 2020, with the keywords "biofilm," "cold atmospheric temperature," and "titanium," using the logical operators AND and OR. Results: We found 8 articles in PubMed, 11 in Scopus, and 10 in WOS, including review articles and original studies, among others. All the articles were selected by two independent reviewers according to the eligibility criteria. Conclusions: Despite the restrictions of this review, CAP seems to have an effect on titanium surfaces in the oral area. Aim: To review the literature associated with porous tantalum and discuss their uses in health science. Materials and Methods: The main search engines used for literature review were PubMed and Scopus. Articles were limited to those published within the past five years in English and Portuguese. Observational studies, reviews, animal studies, in vitro studies, and clinical studies were included. Case reports and simulation studies were excluded. Results: The initial search retrieved 85 articles. Thirty articles were selected for full-text review. After a full-text review of all the manuscripts, only 15 were included, matching the exclusion criteria. Tantalum is considered in the rehabilitation medicine due to various mechanical and biological properties, such as a high degree of osseointegration, biocompatibility, bio-inertness, and noncorrosive material. Conclusion: In contrast, the high degree of elasticity and high manufacturing cost of tantalum limits its use in different fields. Hence, alloys are generated to improve their properties. Implants containing tantalum can modify bone structure, which leads to bone remodeling and induction of osteogenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare in vitro the antibacterial activity of an ethanol extract of Erythroxylum coca Lam (EEE) and Schinus molle L. (EES) at 50% and 75% versus Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective, comparative, longitudinal experimental study. The ethanol extract of coca and molle leaves was obtained by the vacuum filtration method at concentrations of 50% and 75% and was compared with a positive control (0.12% chlorhexidine). Streptococcus mutans strains were isolated in a culture medium (Mitis Salivarius Agar) ideal for the growth of bacterial colonies. The antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract was carried out following the Kirby–Bauer diskdiffusion method in Mueller–Hinton agar to measure bacterial sensitivity. A value of P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Evaluation of the antibacterial effect of EEE and EES at 24 and 48h showed that a concentration of 75% for both groups had the highest antimicrobial activity against S. mutans (11.2 ± 0.7mm; 11.6 ± 0.5mm and 11.3 ± 0.7mm; 11.8 ± 0.5mm, respectively). So, the results have shown that the concentration of EEE and EES of 75% has a greater efficacy than the concentration of 50%, but both concentrations are not as effective as chlorhexidine. The aim of this study was to show that repeatability is statistical value related with the experimental precision in the analysis of experiments. A database of the rice project of the Agricultural Research Institute of Panama was used. 379 individual experiments were analyzed, grouped in 41 trials, planted in the main rice growing-areas in Panamá, between the years of 2000 and 2014. The variance components were calculated through the individual and combined REML analysis, statistical calculations were performed, like the variation coefficient (VC), minimum significant difference (MSD), repeatability (H), range, determination coefficient (R2) and the MSD/range ratio. To determine the appropriate repeatability values to incorporate the combined analysis and improve the experimental precision was done several times throughout the analysis. The individual and combined analysis showed a link between MSD/range ratio and repeatability. When discarding the sites with H<0, the precision was raised by 60% with trial discards under 0,20, 0,30, 0,40 y 0,50, and the precision levels were 38, 67, 56 y 50%, respectively. A convenience in including sites with H>0,20 was confirmed, and discarding those with lower H. There was a lineal link between the number of locations and repeatability, an increase in locations and repeatability, improving the precision. The link between number of locations and MSD/range was inverse, when raising the number of locations the proportion in MSD/range was lowered, increasing the experimental precision. Phosphorus fertilization management in corn crop, El Ejido, Panama 2004-2013. The aim of this study was to determine medium and long management of phosphorus fertilization with two application methods on the maize. An experiment was established in El Ejido, Panama, from 2004 to 2013 on Udic Haplustalf soil. Two factors were evaluated in a 5 x 4 factorial arrangement of split plot under a randomized block design with three replications. The main plot was the broadcast application of P in rates of 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100 kgP/ha (applied only the first year), while in subplots applied P in band, for ten years, together with N and K doses of 0, 10, 20 and 30 kgP/ha. The maximum grain yield was achieved by applying average 304 kg (average of 30.4 kgP/year). It was observed that the residual effect broadcast applications of 0 and 25 kgP/ha had a relative yield below 80%. Treatment of 50 kgP/ha remained at 82%, while 75 kgP/ha declined from the year 2007 and is at a value close to 80%. Treatment of 100 kgP/ha broadcast presents a relative yield close to 100%. The results indicate that the broadcast application over 50 kgP/ha did not differ from the response obtained with annual applications of 30 P/ha in the first five years. These results suggest that the residual effect of phosphorus broadcast and incorporated before planting, on the type of soil used, varies according doses applied initially, where dosages above 50 kg/ha should be repeated after six years to maintain good productivity, since, from this time the residual effect is drastically reduced. Background and Aim: This study focuses on the scientific output of ehrlichiosis, a tick-borne disease that affects a variety of animal species, including dogs, cats, and livestock. Therefore, this study aimed to perform a scientometric mapping of the trends, impact, and thematic evolution of scientific production on ehrlichiosis in veterinary medicine. Materials and Methods: The study design was descriptive and observational, with a quantitative scientometric approach. This study was based on Scopus data collection and analysis from 2018 to 2023. A literature search was conducted on February 12, 2024, and a total of 200 documents were found, of which 177 were articles, 15 book chapters, and eight reviews. A specific search formula was used to obtain documents. The documents were analyzed using SciVal and Bibliometrix in R Studio, focusing on four key metrics: Scholarly Output, View Count, Field-Weighted Citation Impact, and Citation Count. Results: This bibliometric study covered the period from 2018 to 2023 and analyzed 200 papers from 84 different sources. The average number of citations was 3595 and the mean age was 3.17 years. A total of 1874 keywords and 1085 authors were identified, with an average of 6.25 co-authors per paper. International co-authorship was present in 23% of the papers. The papers were distributed as articles (177), book chapters (15), and reviews (8). Conclusion: The combination of these metrics enabled a more complete and accurate assessment of research performance. Atotal of 1874 keywords and 1085 authors were identified. The thematic evolution from “canine ehrlichiosis” and “Ehrlichia canis” to “dog” and “canine” was observed. Aim: To analyze the characteristics and visibility of the scientific production of monkeypox in dentistry., Materials and Methods: A bibliometric study was carried out with the publications indexed in the Scopus database up to 22 September 2022. A search strategy was developed using Boolean operators "AND" and "OR," in addition to the MeSH term "monkeypox virus" (MPXV) in the subarea of dentistry. The bibliometric indicators were measured objectively with the SciVal program., Results: Of the publications identified, 40% were indexed in first-quartile journals. India and Brazil are the countries with two published papers, while India has more views than the rest. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi, India are the institutions with the highest number of citations with respect to the world average (FWCI: 2.74). The International Dental Journal has a publication on monkeypox in the field of dentistry. India is the country with the most authors (06) who have published about the study. Samaranayake Lakshman Perera is the most productive and high-impact author., Conclusion: In the area of dentistry, scientific production on monkeypox is still scarce; however, the publications identified are mainly in high-impact indexed journals (Q1 and Q2). It is necessary to prioritize this disease as a line of research, in addition to articulating efforts between dental teams from different institutions., Clinical Significance: It is necessary to demonstrate the characteristics of scientific publications on monkeypox in dentistry worldwide in order to have a panoramic view of the dynamics of scientific articles in this area.

Aim: To analyze the bibliometric characteristics of the global scientific production indexed in Scopus on oral health during pregnancy., Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study with bibliometric methodology, using scientific publications indexed in Scopus as a unit of analysis. For the search, MESH terms, Boolean operators ("AND" and "OR"), and search topics (TITLE and ABSTRACT) were used. SciVal was the tool selected for the analysis of bibliometric parameters., Results: Most of the articles were published in Q1 (30.2%) and Q2 (29.6%) quartile journals. The country with the most scientific publications was the United States (451 articles), while Spain had only 14 publications. The University of Sydney, with 16 articles, was the most productive institution and the one with the most citations per publication was Saveetha University (19.7). The author with the most articles and citations related to the topic was George Ajesh with 13 and 136, respectively. Johnson Marre had the highest impact (15.1) and expected citations with respect to the global average (FWCI: 2.49)., Conclusions: The scientific production on oral health in pregnancy has increased, with a greater preference by authors for scientific journals in the Q1 and Q2 quartile. The United States is the country with the most publications, although Australia has a greater number of institutions among the most productive., Clinical Significance: The clinical relevance could be addressed later in relation to oral health during pregnancy, however, analyzing the bibliometric characteristics of the global scientific production is essential to understand the dynamics of scientific publications on this topic.

Aim: To analyze the bibliometric characteristics, impact, and visibility of scientific publications on artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry in Scopus., Materials and Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional bibliometric study, based on the systematic search of information in Scopus between 2017 and July 10, 2022. The search strategy was elaborated with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and Boolean operators. The analysis of bibliometric indicators was performed with Elsevier's SciVal program., Results: From 2017 to 2022, the number of publications in indexed scientific journals increased, especially in the Q1 (56.1%) and Q2 (30.6%) quartile. Among the journals with the highest production, the majority was from the United States and the United Kingdom, and the Journal of Dental Research has the highest impact (14.9 citations per publication) and the most publications (31). In addition, the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin (FWCI: 8.24) and Krois Joachim (FWCI: 10.09) from Germany were the institution and author with the highest expected performance relative to the world average, respectively. The United States is the country with the highest number of published papers., Clinical Significance: There is an increasing tendency to increase the scientific production on artificial intelligence in the field of dentistry, with a preference for publication in prestigious scientific journals of high impact. Most of the productive authors and institutions were from Japan. There is a need to promote and consolidate strategies to develop collaborative research both nationally and internationally.
