This Gedenkschrift honors the passing of our good friend and colleague Denise Kozikowski and the loss of a program, UCLA Folklore & Mythology. Like folklore itself, the contents of this volume are also characterized by continuity and change. They span a range from traditional (though unusually innovative) scholarly research and theoretical articles to personal reflections, dreamwork, and even a graphic essay building on the influences of the academic Program and Denise herself. Feedback helps facilitate learning but impairs future prediction. Previous studies have revealed that learners appreciate feedback correcting misinformation less when they receive feedback for their mistakes than in tests without feedback. These studies have noted that judgment after feedback relies on memory for the past test (MPT). In contrast, interference-perseveration theory has indicated that immediate feedback following incorrect answers leads to proactive interference that impedes the acquisition of feedback information. In addition, the current study proposes that this proactive interference influences learners' judgments when making future predictions. In Experiment 1, we instructed learners to judge their ability to predict feedback based on the global judgment of learning (GJOL), whereas in Experiment 2, we asked learners to delay the global judgment of learning (delayed GJOL) and thus not to base that judgment on the recent test. However, in both Experiments 1 and 2, learners' predictions regarding their performance in the feedback condition to be lower than their actual memory performance and did not appreciate the benefits of such feedback. However, learners can restore their awareness of their actual memory performance and thus of the benefits of the feedback after taking a true final test. This finding indicates that learners overcome proactive interference because they might forget their mistakes when making postdictions after taking the final test and might thus subjectively be aware of the fact that the feedback they receive facilitates their learning. Place attachment describes the emotional connection that people hold with a physical space, and such bonds have been shown to be associated with higher levels of life satisfaction, as well as physical and mental well-being. Although a temporal element of place attachment is acknowledged, the exact nature of time's role in such relationships is yet to be fully understood. The current study addressed this using qualitative interviews with nine long-term residents of an urban centre in Northwest England. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was applied to explore the underlying mechanisms through which time asserts its influence on place attachment. Analysis developed three interrelated super-ordinate themes: what time brings, accumulated attachment, and time as a dialectic. As time passes, life events, cultural changes, and physical transformation to the environment affect individuals' interactions with place, and thus their relationship with it. Continued inhabitation leads to an accumulation of emotional salience. Ultimately, time interacts with human memory, offering individuals multiple perspectives through which to make sense of their present environment. Issues may then arise, as memory is heavily influenced by the passing of time. Grounded in interpersonal acceptance-rejection theory (IPARTheory), this study examined the relationship between recollections of parental rejection during childhood and fear of intimacy during adulthood, as mediated by psychological maladjustment and interpersonal anxiety, and as moderated by intimate partner rejection. A sample of 253 Iranians completed the Persian translations of the measures of paternal, maternal, and intimate partner acceptance-rejection, fear of intimacy, interpersonal anxiety, and psychological maladjustment. Results of the mediation and moderation analyses using PROCESS Macro revealed that psychological maladjustment mediated the relationship between recollections of maternal and paternal rejection and fear of intimacy. Interpersonal anxiety only mediated the relationship between recollections of maternal rejection and fear of intimacy. Lastly, intimate partner's rejection only moderated the direct effect of maternal rejection on fear of intimacy. During adolescence, body image plays an increasingly central role in girls' well-being and overall functioning. One dimension that has been associated with girls' body image is social relationships, specifically those established with close others and peers. Cross-sectional findings on the association between both early positive relational memories and current feelings of social pleasure and safeness with body appreciation, an aspect of positive body image, have been recently reported. Nonetheless, this association lacked longitudinal confirmation. The present study thus aimed at exploring associations between these variables along 12 months. Also, the mediating effect of social safeness and pleasure in the association between early memories of warmth and safeness and body appreciation was longitudinally tested. A total of 236 female adolescents, aged between 12 and 18, participated in the study. Participants completed self-report questionnaires in a school context in three waves of data, 6 months apart. Data was analysed via descriptive, correlational, ANOVA and path analysis. Results pointed positive over time correlations, with moderate to strong magnitudes, between the variables in study. Also, means of the variables in study decreased along the 12 months. A path analysis confirmed the mediating effect of social safeness and pleasure in the association between early positive emotional memories and body appreciation. Intentional forgetting is significantly effective for forgetting unwanted non-emotional material. However, whether the suppressive effect of unaided suppression differs from that of substitution forgetting when applied to negative materials by remitted depressed individuals is unclear. A modified think/no-think (TNT) emotional paradigm including specific strategies (unaided suppression, positive-word substitution, and positive-picture substitution) was used with 84 remitted depressed individuals and 80 controls. The participants in both groups forgot more negative words in the substitution condition than in the unaided condition. The remitted participants forgot more with positive-picture substitution than with positive-word substitution, while the controls showed no difference. Moreover, the participants in both groups forgot more with 0 cue presentations (incidental forgetting) than under any other experimental condition. These results indicate that unaided suppression of negative material in the TNT paradigm shows little suppressive effect. Animacy effects in memory correspond to the observation that animates (e.g., cow) are remembered better than inanimates (e.g., pencil). Although the ultimate explanation of these effects seems to be well-documented, clear evidence that would support one or other of the proximate explanations of animacy effects has proven difficult to obtain. Here, we focused on the richness-of-encoding account of animacy effects in memory, which assumes that animates are recalled better than inanimates because the former are encoded with many more distinct associations with other items (i.e., richer memory traces) than the latter. Our goal was to provide further evidence for this account by replicating and extending the analyses of Meinhardt, Bell, Buchner, and Röer (2020) showing that more ideas are generated in response to animate than inanimate words and, importantly, that this generation process mediates the better recall of animates over inanimates. In line with the richness-of-encoding account, we successfully replicated the finding that more ideas were produced in response to animates than inanimates.
