In this paper, we present nomenclatural novelties required in the course of the preparation of the second, revised version of the checklist of vascular plants of Asian Russia. The first version was published in 2012 (Baikov 2012). At the family level, we accepted the modern classification systems (APG IV for flowering plants, PPG I for lycophytes and ferns, and GPG for gymnosperms). At the genus level, we follow the generic concepts applied for particular taxonomic groups according to the Catalogue of Life (COL; https://www.catalogueoflife.org/), version COL23.5. At the species level, we consistently apply the monotypic species concept (also known in Russia as Komarov’s concept). In total, this paper presents one new nothogenus name (× Sibirotrisetokoeleria Chepinoga nom. nov., Poaceae) and 156 new names in the rank of species, in 28 families: Amaranthaceae Juss. (1 name), Amaryllidaceae J. St.-Hil. (1), Apiaceae Lindl. (2), Asteraceae Bercht. & J.Presl (12), Boraginaceae Juss. (4), Caryophyllaceae Juss. (11), Crassulaceae J. St.-Hill. (3), Cyperaceae Juss. (8), Ericaceae Juss. (2), Fabaceae Lindl. (16), Gentianaceae Juss. (1), Geraniaceae Juss. (1), Juncaceae Juss. (1), Lamiaceae Martinov (1), Menyanthaceae Dumort. (1), Orchidaceae Juss. Experiments aboard the International Space Station (ISS) provide a large but still limited amount of data. A complete set of data is usually returned to Earth on a flash disk a few months later, by which time the experimental facility has already been put into storage or trashed. Thus, scientists have no possibility to repeat the experiment, even if some ambiguities are later found. Therefore, onboard experiments require careful preparation on the ground with multiple tests in the laboratory and in parabolic flights, if possible. Furthermore, during postflight analysis, it is important to clarify all unknown sources of errors. One of the most obvious sources of perturbations on the ISS is g-jitter. Here, we present the preparation and implementation of the Influence of Vibrations on Diffusion in Liquids (IVIDIL) experiment on the ISS, which studied the effect of random g-jitter and given vibrations on diffusion-controlled experiments in liquid mixtures. Since diffusion in liquids is a slow process, only vibrational effects were examined in parabolic flights. This paper is addressing the challenge related to understanding transient mass transfer associated with a thermal gradient through a liquid mixture containing a layer of a porous medium saturated with liquid. Digital optical interferometry in combination with tomography was used to unveil the difference in the mechanism of mass transfer caused by the Soret effect in a free liquid and a porous medium and, especially, at their border. With continuous monitoring of mass transfer throughout the system, it was found that at the beginning of the experiment (the first 24 h) the temporal evolution of the concentration difference between the interfaces of the porous layer looked as if the inverse and strong component separation occurred in the porous medium. It was evidenced that different characteristic times of the thermodiffusion process in free liquids and a porous medium were essential for the formation of the apparent inverse separation. This study not only provides physical insights into the mass transfer dynamics, but also opens up the possibility to measure several transport coefficients from a single experiment. We have obtained the Soret, diffusion and thermodiffusion coefficients of the THN–nC12 binary mixture as well as tortuosity and thermal conductivity of a saturated porous medium. The Soret coefficients, determined in the porous layer and in the compound system using the mean concentration in free volumes are similar, and about 10% higher than the benchmark value (Platten et al. 2003), but coincide with the value reported in literature for measurements in porous media (Platten and Costeseque, 2004)., SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Modeling of the experments on formation of coherent structures (also called particle accumulation structures, or PAS) in a three-dimensional time-periodic flow in a finite-size liquid column driven by a combined effect of thermocapillary stress and buoyancy was performed. The exact experimental conditions were studied. We considered particles 1% denser than the fluid. Aiming at reproducing the observed variety of PAS, double-loop (SL-II) and asymmetric single-loop (ASL-I) structures were obtained along with a “conventional” symmetric single-loop PAS (SL-I). The observations are perfectly in line with the experiments. It is shown that the limit trajectory of a particle is not only a matter of the particle’s inertia but also of its initial location. We present experimental results obtained under normal gravity on the dynamics of solid particles in periodic oscillatory thermocapillary-driven flows in a non-isothermal liquid bridge made of decane. Inertial particles of different densities and in the size range approximately 0.75-75 μm are able to form stable coherent structures (particle accumulation structures, or PASs). Two image processing techniques were developed and successfully applied to compute time required for an ensemble of particles to form a structure. It is shown that the formation time grows with the decrease of the Stokes number. The observations indicate the probable irrelevance of the memory term for these experiments. Two types of PAS were observed-single (SL-I) and double-loop (SL-II)-which sometimes co-existed. Only large or very dense particles may form an SL-II type structure. A number of novel features of the system were perceived. In some cases, intermittently stable structures emerged (their dynamics is characterized by alternating time intervals during which a structure exists and is destroyed). Whereas in most experiments we observed a conventional symmetric and centered PAS, there were cases when a long-term stable asymmetric structure appeared. We examine the dynamics of a binary mixture in a cubic cell subjected to a temperature differential and oscillatory forcing. The Soret effect, which is negative in the present study, provides a coupling mechanism by which a temperature gradient establishes a concentration gradient in a mixture. We present the results of experiments that were performed on the International Space Station (ISS) and compare the observations with the results of direct numerical simulations. The evolution of temperature and concentration fields is investigated by optical digital interferometry. One advantage of the experimental technique is the observation of the fields along two perpendicular directions of the cell, allowing us to restore the three-dimensional field. Experimental evidence disproves speculations that the ISS microgravity environment always affects diffusion-controlled processes. Furthermore, we demonstrate that imposed vibrations with constant frequency and amplitude create slow mean flows and that they do influence the diffusion kinetics. The perturbation of the diffusive fields scales as the square of the vibrational velocity. In addition to calculations of the full three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations, a two-time-scale computational methodology is used for situations in which the forcing period is very small compared to the natural time scales of the problem. Hydrodynamic stability of a two-dimensional steady thermocapillary flow under weightlessness in a high-Prandtl number liquid bridge is studied by means of three-dimensional numerical modeling for a wide range of aspect ratios. We suggest an explanation of the findings of a series of microgravity experiments on Marangoni convection in liquid bridges. Stability of the flow with heat transfer through the interface, modeled by the classical Fourier law, is compared with the stability of the same system under adiabatic conditions. Cooling the interface may significantly shift the threshold of hydrothermal instability as soon as the Biot number deviates from zero. It may also affect the structure of the basic Marangoni flow and the mode of the supercritical flow. We demonstrate that the heat loss has a destabilizing effect for the aspect ratios (ratio of radius to height) below 2.4 (with the exception of a region between 1.6 and 1.8), and for the longer liquid bridges the prevailing effect is stabilizing. The heat transfer coefficient as a function of the length of the liquid zone is theoretically calculated using a model of heat transport for laminar forced convection. Comparison of the results of the modeling with the experimental data shows that an incorrect assessment of the heat transfer may lead to wrong conclusions concerning both the critical parameters of the flow and its structure. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. A series of experiments has been performed under earth’s gravity to study formation of particle accumulation structures (PAS) in a supercritical flow driven by the combined effects of buoyancy and thermocapillary forces. The test flow was created in a non-isothermal cylindrical column (liquid bridge) made of n-decane and heated from above. The objective of the experiment was to answer two major questions: (1) how strong is the influence of the shape of the interface on the process of formation of PAS; (2) what temperature of the ambient air fits better for PAS to occur. Considering these questions, we developed a method based on changing both the volume of the liquid bridge and temperature at the external walls of the experimental chamber to set and to keep constant the shape of the interface and the temperature inside the setup, respectively. The experimental observations are presented in the form of diagrams in the parameters’ space showing ranges of the PAS formation. The findings show that a liquid bridge with an interface as close to the straight cylindrical as possible and surrounded by air at low temperature is the best terrain for PAS formation. The results of the chaos analysis of the recorded temperature time series and their correlation with the obtained diagrams allow for showing that accumulation of particles in coherent structures is possible only in a periodic oscillatory flow characterized by a small value of the translation error not exceeding 0.01.
