Abstract Hypertension is a major public health issue worldwide. The imbalance of gut microbiota is thought to play an important role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. The authors conducted the systematic review and meta‐analysis to clarify the relationship between gut microbiota and hypertension through conducting an electronic search in six databases. Our meta‐analysis included 19 studies and the results showed that compared with healthy controls, Shannon significantly decreased in hypertension [SMD = −0.13, 95%CI (−0.22, −0.04), p = .007]; however, Simpson [SMD = −0.01, 95%CI (−0.14, 0.12), p = .87], ACE [SMD = 0.18, 95%CI (−0.06, 0.43), p = .14], and Chao1 [SMD = 0.11, 95%CI (−0.01, 0.23), p = .08] did not differ significantly between hypertension and healthy controls. The F/B ratio significantly increased in hypertension [SMD = 0.84, 95%CI (0.10, 1.58), p = .03]. In addition, Shannon index was negatively correlated with hypertension [r = −0.12, 95%CI (−0.19, −0.05)], but had no significant correlation with SBP [r = 0.10, 95%CI (−0.19, 0.37)] and DBP [r = −0.39, 95%CI (−0.73, 0.12)]. At the phylum level, the relative abundance of Firmicutes [SMD = −0.01, 95%CI (−0.37, 0.34), p = .94], Bacteroidetes [SMD = −0.15, 95%CI (−0.44, 0.14), p = .30], Proteobacteria [SMD = 0.25, 95%CI (−0.01, 0.51), p = .06], and Actinobacteria [SMD = 0.21, 95%CI (−0.11, 0.53), p = .21] did not differ significantly between hypertension and healthy controls. At the genus level, compared with healthy controls, the relative abundance of Faecalibacterium decreased significantly [SMD = −0.16, 95%CI (−0.28, −0.04), p = .01], while the Streptococcus [SMD = 0.20, 95%CI (0.08, 0.32), p = .001] and Enterococcus [SMD = 0.20, 95%CI (0.08, 0.33), p = .002] significantly increased in hypertension. Available evidence suggests that hypertensive patients may have an imbalance of gut microbiota. However, it still needs further validation by large sample size studies of high quality.

Abstract Background Smith-Kingsmore syndrome (SKS) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by de novo mutations of gene MTOR in most cases and germline mosaicism in a few cases. The first case of SKS was reported in 2013. The incidence of SKS remains unknown. The clinical manifestations of SKS are diverse, and common features are macrocephaly, intellectual disability, and seizures. Some patients with SKS have special facial features. Case presentation The case was a 5-month-old baby girl, who was admitted to the hospital for nystagmus, delayed development for 2 months, and intermittent convulsions for 2 days. The patient had a head circumference of 42 cm (+ 2SD), and showed facial deformity, low limb muscle tension, large areas of pigmentation, as well as mosaic patchy and strip-like pigment loss in her trunk and limbs. Meanwhile, her development was lagging behind peers. Physical examination did not reveal other abnormalities. She was diagnosed with SKS based on whole-exome sequencing combined with clinical symptoms and signs. She successively received treatment with adrenocorticotropic hormone, methylprednisolone sodium succinate, topiramate, levetiracetam, and zonisamide to reduce the number of convulsions in a short time, but drug resistance appeared thereafter. After combined treatment with multiple antiseizure medications, the patient still had seizures, but the amplitude of limb movement during the seizures was reduced compared to that before treatment. Conclusions This case expanded the phenotypic spectrum of SKS for diagnosis. We also review the related literature to promote the awareness, diagnosis, clinical management, and follow-up of SKS patients with MTOR mutations.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of low-frequency electrical stimulation combined with abdominal acupoint massage on the recovery of gastrointestinal function following cesarean section. Methods: A total of 60 postoperative patients were randomly assigned to either the control group (group A, n = 30) or the observation group (group B, n = 30) between January 2021 to December 2021. The control group received conventional interventions, while the observation group received a nursing intervention consisting of low-frequency electrical stimulation combined with abdominal acupoint massage starting at 10–12 hours after the operation. The primary outcomes included the time to first bowel sound, time to flatus, time to defecation, and time to lactation. The secondary outcomes included postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) pain scores, the rate and severity of abdominal distension, and serum levels of prolactin (PRL) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). Results: The observation group had significantly earlier restoration of bowel sounds, passage of first flatus, and first defecation than the control group (p < 0.001). The VAS scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 24 h, 48 h, and 72 h after the operation (p < 0.001). The incidence of abdominal distension in the observation group (13.3%, 4/30) was lower than that in the control group (36.7%, 11/30) (p < 0.05). Furthermore, compared to the control group, the observation group showed a significant increase in serum PRL levels and a significant decrease in VIP levels after treatment (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The application of low-frequency electrical stimulation combined with abdominal acupoint massage after cesarean section can expedite the recovery of gastrointestinal function and reduce pain and complications, such as abdominal distension. This approach can be used in clinical practice to accelerate the recovery of intestinal function after cesarean section. BackgroundNumerous recent studies have found a strong correlation between intestinal flora and the occurrence of hypertension. However, it remains unclear whether fecal microbiota transfer might affect the blood pressure of the host. This study aimed to quantify both associations.MethodsAn electronic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), WanFang database, Weipu, Embase, and SinoMed to retrieve relevant studies. The final search was completed on August 22, 2022. Two authors independently applied the inclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias assessment. All data were analyzed using RevMan 5.4.ResultsA total of 5 articles were selected for final inclusion. All studies were assessed as having a high risk of bias according to the SYRCLE risk of bias tool. The meta-analysis results showed that transplantation of fecal bacteria from the hypertensive model can significantly improve the host's systolic pressure (MD = 18.37, 95%CI: 9.74~26.99, PConclusionThis meta-analysis suggests a relationship between gut microbiota dysbiosis and increased blood pressure, where transplantation of fecal bacteria from the hypertensive model can cause a significant increase in systolic pressure and diastolic pressure in animal models.

This work aimed at developing a ratiometric fluorescence sensor for sensitive and accurate detection of ascorbic acid (AA) based on oxidase-mimicking activity of CoOOH nanoflake. CoOOH nanoflake with oxidase-like activity was prepared by using CoCl2 as precursor, NaClO as oxidant through a sonication method. The as-synthesized CoOOH nanoflake was characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV–vis absorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. Control experiments were used to demonstrate the feasibility for constructing the radiometric fluorescent sensor using the as-synthesized CoOOH nanoflake. Single-factor experiments were conducted to optimized the optimal concentration of CoOOH nanoflake and incubation time for AA detection. The results showed that the as-synthesized CoOOH nanoflakes exhibited typical hexagonal plate shape, and other characterization results also were consistent with those in previous works. The optimal concentration of CoOOH nanoflake was 39.1 μmol/L, and the optimal incubation time was 25 min. Under the optimal conditions, it was found that F428/F568 linearly correlated with AA concentration from 0.5 to 10.0 μmol/L with correlation coefficients of 0.9965. The regression equation was y=0.79416x+0.37917 (R2=0.9965) with a limit of detection of 303 nmol/L (RSN=3). The recoveries from fruit juice beverage samples spiked with varying concentrations of AA were in the range of 88.0%~115.9%, and analytical results of the sensor were correlated well with those of national standard method of China. These results indicated that the ratiometric fluorescent sensor had excellent selectivity and accuracy for AA detection, creating a new avenue for rapid detection of AA.

ObjectiveTo investigate the characteristic changes in the gut microbiota of patients with type A aortic dissection (AAD) and provide a theoretical basis for future microbiome-oriented interventional studies.MethodsHigh-throughput 16S rDNA sequencing was performed on the stool samples of patients with and without (healthy control subjects) AAD. Using alpha and beta diversity analysis, we compared the gut microbiota composition of 20 patients with AAD and 20 healthy controls matched for gender, age, BMI, and geographical region. The accuracy of AAD prediction by differential microbiome was calculated using the random forest machine learning model. Targeted measurement of the plasma concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are the main metabolites of the gut microbiome, was performed using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Spearman’s correlation analysis was conducted to determine the relationships of gut microbiome and SCFAs with the clinical characteristics of subjects.ResultsThe differences in gut microbiota alpha diversity between patients with AAD and the healthy controls were not statistically significant (Shannon index: p = 0.19; Chao1: p = 0.4); however, the microbiota composition (beta diversity) was significantly different between the two groups (Anosim, p = 0.001). Bacteroidota was enriched at the phylum level, and the SCFA-producing genera Prevotella, Porphyromonas, Lachnospiraceae, and Ruminococcus and inflammation-related genera Fenollaria and Sutterella were enriched at the genus level in the AAD group compared with those in the control group. The random forest model could predict AAD from gut microbiota composition with an accuracy of 87.5% and the area-under-curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.833. BackgroundThe benefits of breast milk oral care in mechanically ventilated preterm infants remain controversial. This study aimed to systematically review the evidence on the benefits of breast milk oral care in mechanically ventilated preterm infants.MethodsThe randomized controlled trials of breast milk oral care for mechanically ventilated preterm infants were searched in EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, WANFANG Date and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. The retrieval language was limited to Chinese and English, and the final search was conducted until March 2022. Outcome measures included ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), mechanical ventilation time (MVT), length of stay (LOS), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), late-onset sepsis, mortality during hospitalization, time of full intestinal feeding and time of full oral feeding. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data, and conducted the literature quality assessment. Meta-analysis was mainly performed using RevMan 5.3.ResultsEight articles involving 1,046 preterm infants were included. Our meta-analysis showed that compared with the control group, breast milk oral care could reduce the incidence of VAP [RR = 0.41, 95% CI (0.23, 0.75), P = 0.003] and NEC [RR = 0.54, 95% CI (0.30, 0.95), P = 0.03], and shorten the MVT [MD = −0.45, 95% CI (−0.73, −0.18), P = 0.001] and LOS [MD = −5.74, 95% CI (−10.39, −1.10), P = 0.02]. There were no significant differences in the mortality during hospitalization [RR = 0.94, 95% CI (0.67, 1.33), P = 0.74], the incidence of late-onset sepsis [RR = 0.79, 95% CI (0.40, 1.59), P = 0.51], the time of full intestinal feeding [MD = −2.42, 95% CI (−5.37, 0.52), P = 0.11] and the time of full oral feeding [MD = −3.40, 95% CI (−10.70, 3.91), P = 0.36] between the two groups.ConclusionsOral care of breast milk can reduce the incidence of VAP and NEC, shorten MVT and LOS in mechanically ventilated preterm infants. However, due to the quality and quantity limitations of the included studies, larger sample size and more strictly designed clinical trials are still needed in the future to further confirm the findings of this study.

BackgroundCorticosteroids can effectively inhibit systemic inflammation induced by cardiopulmonary bypass. Recently clinical trials and meta-analyses and current guidelines for cardiac surgery do not support corticosteroids prophylaxis during cardiac surgery because of an increase in myocardial infarction and no benefit for patients. The aim of this study is to determine whether specific corticosteroids dose ranges might provide clinical benefits without increasing myocardial infarction.MethodsThe PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Clinical Trials, and Cochrane databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published before August 1, 2021.Results88 RCTs with 18,416 patients (17,067 adults and 1,349 children) were identified. Relative to placebo and high-dose corticosteroids, low-dose corticosteroids (≤20 mg/kg hydrocortisone) during adult cardiac surgery did not increase the risks of myocardial infarction (odds ratio [OR]: 0.96, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.43–2.17; p = 0.93). The channels of monetary policy transmission highly depend on industrial structure, and there are significant differences across industries. This paper studies the industrial effects of monetary policy in China using the Vector Autoregression (VAR) model. We explore the heterogeneity of the response three pillar industries and factor intensity industries to a monetary shock. In order to capture the transmission of monetary policy, decomposing monetary policy as anticipated and unanticipated is considered. Results show evidence of the industrial effects of aggregate monetary policy shock is almost not effective. And the effectiveness of monetary policy shocks is conducted in close association with expectations and factor intensity.

Non-thermal plasma is an alternative technology of exploiting biomass for efficient production of value added energy carriers. In this study, plasma catalytic liquefaction (PCL) system is successfully developed to achieve rapid and efficient liquefaction of sawdust in the presence of co-solvent polyethylene glycol 200 (PEG 200) and glycerin as well as the acid catalyst H2SO4. The influences of different operating factors such as the catalyst concentration, reaction time, molar ratio of PEG 200 and glycerin and the power supply are investigated in terms of the liquefaction yield and solution temperature, while the roles of the applied voltage and the duty cycle of power supply in the PCL process are discussed in detail. Experimental results show that the sawdust could be completely liquefied into crude bio-oil with a high heating value (HHV) of 19.18 MJ/kg in the mixture containing sawdust and solvent in a ratio of 1/7, and 1 wt.% catalyst H2SO4. Increasing the applied voltage and duty cycle are more efficient giving higher yield of liquid products. Based on the analysis of the processing conditions, suggested that the enhanced performance of the PCL process is linked to the superiority of heating that induced by electric field and the presence of quantities reactive species during the plasma discharge. The physiochemical characteristics of the biomass sample and the liquefied products are interpreted by using elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and the identities and concentration of the liquid products are determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

The retinal vessels in the human body are the only ones that can be observed directly by non-invasive imaging techniques. Retinal vessel morphology and structure are the important objects of concern for physicians in the early diagnosis and treatment of related diseases. The classification of retinal vessels has important guiding significance in the basic stage of diagnostic treatment. This paper proposes a novel method based on generative adversarial networks with improved U-Net, which can achieve synchronous automatic segmentation and classification of blood vessels by an end-to-end network. The proposed method avoids the dependency of the segmentation results in the multiple classification tasks. Moreover, the proposed method builds on an accurate classification of arteries and veins while also classifying arteriovenous crossings. The validity of the proposed method is evaluated on the RITE dataset: the accuracy of image comprehensive classification reaches 96.87%. The sensitivity and specificity of arteriovenous classification reach 91.78% and 97.25%. The results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and show the competitive classification performance.

Multi-drug delivery systems, which may be promising solution to overcome obstacles, have limited the clinical success of multi-drug combination therapies to treat cancer. To this end, we used three different anticancer agents, Cu(BpT)Br, NAMI-A, and doxorubicin (DOX), to build human serum albumin (HSA)-based multi-drug delivery systems in a breast cancer model to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of overcoming single drug (DOX) resistance to cancer cells in vivo, and to regulate the drugs’ release from HSA. The HSA complex structure revealed that NAMI-A and Cu(BpT)Br bind to the IB and IIA sub-domain of HSA by N-donor residue replacing a leaving group and coordinating to their metal centers, respectively. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra demonstrated that one DOX molecule is conjugated with lysine of HSA by a pH-sensitive linker. Furthermore, the release behavior of three agents form HSA can be regulated at different pH levels. Importantly, in vivo results revealed that the HSA–NAMI-A–Cu(BpT)Br–DOX complex not only increases the targeting ability compared with a combination of the three agents (the NAMI-A/Cu(BpT)Br/DOX mixture), but it also overcomes DOX resistance to drug-resistant breast cancer cell lines.

Multi-targeting of oncoproteins by a single molecule represents an effectual, rational, and an alternative approach to target therapy. We carried out a systematic study to reveal the mechanisms of action of newly synthesized Cu2+ compounds of 2-naphthalenol and 1-(((2-pyridinylmethyl)imino)methyl)- (C1 and C2). The antiproliferative activity of the as-synthesized complexes in three human cancer cell lines indicates their potential as multi-targeted antitumor agents. Relatively, C1 and C2 showed better efficacy in vitro relative to Cisplatin and presented promising levels of toxicity against A-549 cells. On the whole, the Cu2+ complexes exhibited chemotherapeutic effects by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) and arresting the cell cycle in the G0/G1 phase by competent regulation of cyclin and cyclin-dependent kinases. Fascinatingly, the Cu2+ complexes were shown to activate the apoptotic and autophagic pathways in A-549 cells. These complexes effectively induced endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated apoptosis, inhibited topoisomerase-1, and damaged cancer DNA through a ROS-mediated mechanism. The synthesized Cu2+ complexes established ROS-mediated targeting of multiple cell signaling pathways as a fabulous route for the inhibition of cancer cell growth.
