We derive a systematic perturbative expansion for the finite-volume energy spectrum of the non-linear $O(N)$ $\sigma$-model in the $\delta$-regime. The violation of the power-counting rules that emerges after the separation of the fast and slow modes is dealt with to all orders by use of the threshold expansion. A study of light $\Lambda$ hypernuclei in chiral effective field theory is presented. For the first time chiral $\Lambda$NN and $\Sigma$NN three-body forces are included consistently. The calculations are performed within the no-core shell model. Results for the separation energies of the hypernuclei $^3_{\Lambda}\mathrm{H}$, $^4_{\Lambda}\mathrm{H}$/$^4_{\Lambda}\mathrm{He}$, $^5_{\Lambda}\mathrm{He}$, and $^7_{\Lambda}\mathrm{Li}$ are given. It is found that the experimental values can be fairly well reproduced once YNN three-body forces are taken into account., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

We analyze the latest LHCb data on the $\pi^+\pi^-$ spectrum in the isospin-violating $X(3872)~\to~J/\psi \pi^+\pi^-$ decay, employing a model-independent approach based on dispersion theory to deal with the $\pi\pi$ final state interactions. Additionally, the isospin breaking effects are properly introduced, allowing for reliable and accurate extraction of the ratio, $R_X$, between the $X(3872)$ couplings to the $J/\psi \rho$ and $J/\psi \omega$ channels from the data. We find very good agreement with the LHCb data for the whole range of the $\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass, and $R_X$ is determined to be $0.19\pm 0.02$, significantly smaller than what was determined earlier. Using this value, we make predictions for the $\pi^+\pi^0\pi^-$ mass distribution in the $X(3872)~\to~J/\psi \pi^+\pi^0\pi^-$ process, which is currently accessible by the BESIII Collaboration, and update a prediction for the pole positions of the isovector partner states of the $X(3872)$, $W_{c1}$, with $I(J^{PC})=1(1^{++})$., Comment: 9 pages, 1 table and 2 figures

In this work, we present a calculation of the triton $\beta$-decay lifetime using Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory (NLEFT) at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. By incorporating a non-perturbative treatment of the higher-order corrections, we achieve consistent predictions for the Fermi and Gamow-Teller matrix elements, which are crucial for determining the triton lifetime. Our results are consistent with earlier theoretical calculations, confirming the robustness of our approach. This study marks a significant advancement in the systematic application of NLEFT to nuclear $\beta$-decay processes, paving the way for future high-precision calculations in more complex nuclear systems. Additionally, we discuss potential improvements to our approach, including the explicit inclusion of two-pion exchange mechanisms and the refinement of three-nucleon forces. We investigate the feasibility of measuring the proton charge radius through dimuon photoproduction off a proton target. Our findings indicate that the Bethe-Heitler mechanism, which dominates at small momentum transfers, allows for an extraction of the proton electromagnetic form factors in the extremely low $Q^2$ region below $10^{-3}$ GeV$^2$ in the spacelike region, when the incident photon beam energy exceeds several hundred MeV. The optimal kinematical region and a sensitivity study of the proton charge radius from dimuon photoproduction are presented. Such a measurement is expected to provide an alternative to the elastic muon-proton scattering measurements such as MUSE at PSI and AMBER at CERN., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Many excited states in the hadron spectrum have large branching ratios to the three-hadron final states. Understanding such particles from first principles QCD requires input from lattice QCD with one-, two-, and three-meson interpolators as well as a reliable three-body formalism relating finite-volume spectra at unphysical pion masses to the scattering amplitudes at the physical point. In this work, we provide the first-ever calculation of the resonance parameters of the $\omega$-meson from lattice QCD to the physical point, including an update of the formalism through matching to effective field theories. The main result of this pioneering study, the pole position of the $\omega$-meson at $\sqrt{s_\omega}= (778.0(11.2)-i\,3.0(5) )\,\mathrm{MeV}$, agrees reasonably well with experiment providing a pathway to study heavier three-hadron resonances. Explicit expressions for the leading chiral hyperon-nucleon-nucleon three-body forces have been derived by Petschauer et al [Phys. Rev. C93.014001 (2016)]. An important prerequisite for including these three-body forces in few- and many-body calculations is the accuracy and efficiency of their partial-wave decomposition. A careful benchmark of the {\Lambda}NN potential matrix elements, computed using two robust and efficient partial-wave decomposition methods, is presented. Understanding the strong interactions within baryonic systems beyond the up and down quark sector is pivotal for a comprehensive description of nuclear forces. This study explores the interactions involving hyperons, particularly the $\Lambda$ particle, within the framework of nuclear lattice effective field theory (NLEFT). By incorporating $\Lambda$ hyperons into the NLEFT framework, we extend our investigation into the $S = -1$ sector, allowing us to probe the third dimension of the nuclear chart. We calculate the $\Lambda$ separation energies ($B_{\Lambda}$) of hypernuclei up to the medium-mass region, providing valuable insights into hyperon-nucleon ($YN$) and hyperon-nucleon-nucleon ($YNN$) interactions. Our calculations employ high-fidelity chiral interactions at N${}^3$LO for nucleons and extend it to $\Lambda$ hyperons with leading-order S-wave $YN$ interactions as well as $YNN$ forces constrained only by the $A=4,5$ systems. The System for Measuring Overlap with Gas (SMOG2) at the LHCb detector enables the study of fixed-target ion-ion collisions at relativistic energies ($\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}\sim100$ GeV in the centre-of-mass). With input from \textit{ab initio} calculations of the structure of $^{16}$O and $^{20}$Ne, we compute 3+1D hydrodynamic predictions for the anisotropic flow of Pb+Ne and Pb+O collisions, to be tested with upcoming LHCb data. This will allow the detailed study of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) formation as well as experimental tests of the predicted nuclear shapes. Elliptic flow ($v_2$) in Pb+Ne collisions is greatly enhanced compared to the Pb+O baseline due to the shape of $^{20}$Ne, which is deformed in a bowling-pin geometry. Owing to the large $^{208}$Pb radius, this effect is seen in a broad centrality range, a unique feature of this collision configuration. Larger elliptic flow further enhances the quadrangular flow ($v_4$) of Pb+Ne collisions via non-linear coupling, and impacts the sign of the kurtosis of the elliptic flow vector distribution ($c_2\{4\}$). Exploiting the shape of $^{20}$Ne proves thus an ideal method to investigate the formation of QGP in fixed-target experiments at LHCb, and demonstrates the power of SMOG2 as a tool to image nuclear ground states.

We study the fine-structure constant dependence of the rates of some selected radiative capture reactions within the framework of so-called Halo Effective Field Theory in order to assess the adequacy of some assumptions made on the Coulomb penetrability. We find that this dependence deviates from that implied by a parameterization of the cross sections of this effect via a simple penetration factor. A consistency condition of general relativity as an effective field theory in Minkowskian background uniquely fixes the value of the cosmological constant. In two-loop calculations, including the interaction of gravitons with matter fields, it has been shown that this value of the cosmological constant leads to vanishing vacuum energy, under the assumption that the energy-momentum tensor of the gravitational field is given by the pseudotensor of Landau-Lifshitz's classic textbook. Here, we demonstrate that this result also holds when the self-interaction of a scalar field is taken into account. That is, our two-loop-order calculation suggests that in an effective field theory of metric and scalar fields, one arrives at a consistent theory with massless gravitons if the cosmological constant is fixed from the condition of vanishing vacuum energy. We extend our previous study of the interactions of $\bar{D}^{(*)} \Lambda_c - \bar{D}^{(*)}\Sigma_c^{(*)}$ within an analytic, unitary, coupled-channel approach by including the $J/\psi p$ channel and performing fits to the $J/\psi p$ invariant mass distributions in the $\Lambda_b^0 \to J/\psi p K^-$ decay by the LHCb Collaboration. We take into account the contributions of $t$-channel pseudoscalar and vector meson exchanges and $u$-channel baryon exchanges in this work, and a series of bound states and resonances with different spin-parities are dynamically generated. According to the results, four states have a significant impact on the physical observables, with two having a spin-parity of $1/2^-$ and the other two having $3/2^-$. These states can be associated with the LHCb hidden-charm pentaquarks. We further provide the coupling strength between each pole and different channels, which provides some insights on how to search for them in future experiments. Moreover, we also search for poles in higher partial waves up to $J=7/2$ and find indications for the existence of several states with larger widths., Comment: 9 pages

The equation of state (EoS) of neutron matter plays a decisive role in our understanding of the properties of neutron stars as well as the generation of gravitational waves in neutron star mergers. At sufficient densities, it is known that the appearance of hyperons generally softens the EoS, thus leading to a reduction in the maximum mass of neutron stars well below the observed values of about 2 solar masses. Even though repulsive three-body forces are known to solve this so-called "hyperon puzzle", so far performing \textit{ab initio} calculations with a substantial number of hyperons has remained elusive. In this work, we address this challenge by employing simulations based on Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory with up to 232 neutrons (pure neutron matter) and up to 116 $\Lambda$ hyperons (hyper-neutron matter) in a finite volume. We introduce a novel auxiliary field quantum Monte Carlo algorithm, allowing us to simulate for both pure neutron matter and hyper-neutron matter systems up to 5 times the density of nuclear matter using a single auxiliary field without any sign oscillations. Also, for the first time in {\em ab initio} calculations, we not only include $N\Lambda$ two-body and $NN\Lambda$ three-body forces, but also $\Lambda\Lambda$ and $N \Lambda\Lambda$ interactions. Consequently, we determine essential astrophysical quantities such as the mass-radius relation, the speed of sound and the tidal deformability of neutron stars. Hadronic resonances emerge from strong interactions encoding the dynamics of quarks and gluons. The structure of these resonances can be probed by virtual photons parameterized in transition form factors. In this study, twelve $N^*$ and $\Delta$ transition form factors at the pole are extracted from data with the center-of-mass energy from $\pi N$ threshold to $1.8\,{\rm GeV}$, and the photon virtuality $0\leq Q^2/{\rm GeV}^2\leq 8$. For the first time, these results are determined from a simultaneous analysis of more than one state, i.e., $\sim 10^5$ $\pi N$, $\eta N$, and $K\Lambda$ electroproduction data. In addition, about $ 5\cdot 10^4$ data in the hadronic sector as well as photoproduction serve as boundary conditions. For the $\Delta(1232)$ and $N(1440)$ states our results are in qualitative agreement with previous studies, while the transition form factors at the poles of some higher excited states are estimated for the first time. The electromagnetic form factors $G_{\rm E}$ and $G_{\rm M}$ of the proton and neutron in the timelike region are extracted in a study of the processes $e^+ e^-\to \bar{p}p$ and $e^+ e^-\to \bar{n}n$. The reaction amplitude is evaluated within the distorted wave Born approximation, with the interaction of the antinucleon-nucleon ($\bar{N}N$) pair taken into account. The latter is constructed within $SU(3)$ chiral effective field theory up to the next-to-leading order. An excellent description of the $e^+ e^-\to \bar{N}N$ data in the energy region from the $\bar{N}N$ threshold up to center-of-mass energies $E_{\rm cm}=2.2$~GeV is achieved. Results for the electromagnetic form factors $G_{\rm E}, G_{\rm M}$, $G_{\rm E}/G_{\rm M}$, and the subtracted effective form factors, $G_{\rm osc}$, are provided. Using chiral effective field theory, we predict that there must be isovector charmonium-like $D\bar D^*$ hadronic molecules with $J^{PC}=1^{++}$ denoted as $W_{c1}$. The inputs are the properties of the $X(3872)$, including its mass and the ratio of its branching fractions of decays into $J/\psi\rho^0$ and $J/\psi\omega$. The predicted states are virtual state poles of the scattering matrix, pointing at a molecular nature of the $X(3872)$ as well as its spin partners. They should show up as either a mild cusp or dip at the $D\bar D^*$ thresholds, explaining why they are elusive in experiments. The so far negative observation also indicates that the $X(3872)$ is either a bound state with non-vanishing binding energy or a virtual state, only in these cases the $X(3872)$ signal dominates over that from the $W_{c1}^0$. The pole positions are $3881.2^{+0.8}_{-0.0}- i 1.6^{+0.7}_{-0.9}$ MeV for $W_{c1}^0$ on the fourth Riemann sheet of the $D^0\bar D^{*0}$-$D^+D^{*-}$ coupled-channel system, and $3866.9^{+4.6}_{-7.7}- i (0.07\pm0.01)$ MeV for $W_{c1}^\pm$ on the second Riemann sheet of the $(D\bar D^*)^\pm$ single-channel system. The findings imply that the peak in the $J/\psi\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass distribution is not purely from the $X(3872)$ but contains contributions from $W_{c1}^0$ predicted here. The states should have isovector heavy quark spin partners with $J^{PC}=0^{++}$, $2^{++}$ and $1^{+-}$, with the last one corresponding to $Z_c$. In this study, we revisit the extraction of parton-to-$K^0_S$ hadron fragmentation functions, named FF24-$K^0_S$, focusing on both next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy in perturbative QCD. Our approach involves the analysis of single inclusive electron-positron annihilation (SIA) data. The two key improvements are, on the one hand, the incorporation of the latest experimental data from the BESIII experiment and, on the other hand, the adoption of Neural Networks in the fitting procedure. To address experimental uncertainties, the Monte Carlo method is employed. Our investigation also explores the impact of hadron mass corrections on the description of SIA data, spanning a broad kinematic regime with a particular emphasis on the range of small $z$ values. We present an improved calculation of the light element abundances in the framework of Big Bang nucleosynthesis as a function of the Higgs vacuum expectation value $v$. We compare the methods of our calculation to previous literature including the recently published work of Burns et al. [1]. The PDG result for the $^4$He abundance can be explained within $2\sigma$ by $-0.014 \leq \delta v / v \leq 0.026$, for deuterium we find the constraint $-0.005 \leq \delta v / v \leq -0.001$. Whether or not femto-scale droplets of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) are formed in so-called small systems at high-energy colliders is a pressing question in the phenomenology of the strong interaction. For proton-proton or proton-nucleus collisions the answer is inconclusive due to the large theoretical uncertainties plaguing the description of these processes. While upcoming data on collisions of $^{16}$O nuclei may mitigate these uncertainties in the near future, here we demonstrate the unique possibilities offered by complementing $^{16}$O$^{16}$O data with collisions of $^{20}$Ne ions. We couple both NLEFT and PGCM ab initio descriptions of the structure of $^{20}$Ne and $^{16}$O to hydrodynamic simulations of $^{16}$O$^{16}$O and $^{20}$Ne$^{20}$Ne collisions at high energy. We isolate the imprints of the bowling-pin shape of $^{20}$Ne on the collective flow of hadrons, which can be used to perform quantitative tests of the hydrodynamic QGP paradigm. In particular, we predict that the elliptic flow of $^{20}$Ne$^{20}$Ne collisions is enhanced by as much as 1.170(8)$_{\rm stat.}$(30)$_{\rm syst.}$ for NLEFT and 1.139(6)$_{\rm stat.}$(39)$_{\rm syst.}$ for PGCM relative to $^{16}$O$^{16}$O collisions for the 1% most central events. At the same time, theoretical uncertainties largely cancel when studying relative variations of observables between two systems. This demonstrates a method based on experiments with two light-ion species for precision characterizations of the collective dynamics and its emergence in a small system., Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures. The primary objective of this study is to investigate hadronic molecules of $K^*\bar K_1(1270)$ using a one-boson-exchange model, which incorporates exchanges of vector and pseudoscalar mesons in the $t$-channel, as well as the pion exchange in the $u$-channel. Additionally, careful consideration is given to the three-body effects resulting from the on-shell pion originating from $K_1(1270)\to K^*\pi$. Then the BESIII data of the $J/\psi\to\phi\eta\eta'$ process is fitted using the $K^*\bar K_1(1270)$ scattering amplitude with $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ or $1^{--}$. The analysis reveals that both the $J^{PC}=0^{--}$ and $1^{--}$ assumptions for $K^*\bar K_1(1270)$ scattering provide good descriptions of the data, with similar fit qualities. Notably, the parameters obtained from the best fits indicate the existence of $K^*\bar K_1(1270)$ bound states, denoted by $\phi(2100)$ and $\phi_0(2100)$ for the $1^{--}$ and $0^{--}$ states, respectively. The current experimental data, including the $\eta$ polar angular distribution, cannot distinguish which $K^*\bar K_1(1270)$ bound state contributes to the $J/\psi\to\phi\eta\eta'$ process, or if both are involved. Therefore, we propose further explorations of this process, as well as other processes, in upcoming experiments with many more $J/\psi$ events to disentangle the different possibilities., Comment: 11pages, 8figures and 1 table

This study focuses on the interaction of the pseudoscalar meson octet and the baryon decuplet. In the continuum, it is observed that several $J^{P}=\frac32^-$ baryon resonances can be produced by the Weinberg-Tomozawa interaction in unitarized chiral perturbation theory, including the $N(1875)$, $\Sigma(1670)$, $\Sigma(1910)$, $\Xi(1820)$ and $\Omega(2012)$. Among them, the $\Xi(1820)$ and $\Sigma(1670)$ may exhibit a potential two-pole structures. The unitarized chiral perturbation approach is then applied as the underlying theory to predict the energy levels of these systems in a finite volume. These energy levels are well described by the $K$-matrix parameterization constrained by flavor SU(3) symmetry. With the parameters from the best fits, the poles extracted from the $K$-matrix parameterization closely correspond to those derived from the underlying chiral effective field theory, as long as they are close to physical region and not significantly higher than the lowest relevant threshold., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures and 2 tables

Graphene nanoribbons are a promising candidate for fault-tolerant quantum electronics. In this scenario, qubits are realised by localised states that can emerge on junctions in hybrid ribbons formed by two armchair nanoribbons of different widths. We derive an effective theory based on a tight-binding ansatz for the description of hybrid nanoribbons and use it to make accurate predictions of the energy gap and nature of the localisation in various hybrid nanoribbon geometries. We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to demonstrate that the effective theory remains applicable in the presence of Hubbard interactions. We discover, in addition to the well known localisations on junctions, which we call `Fuji', a new type of `Kilimanjaro' localisation smeared out over a segment of the hybrid ribbon. We show that Fuji localisations in hybrids of width $N$ and $N+2$ armchair nanoribbons occur around symmetric junctions if and only if $N\pmod3=1$, while edge-aligned junctions never support strong localisation. A reliable determination of the pole parameters and residues of nucleon resonances is notoriously challenging, given the required analytic continuation into the complex plane. We provide a comprehensive analysis of such resonance parameters accessible with Roy-Steiner equations for pion-nucleon scattering - a set of partial-wave dispersion relations that combines the constraints from analyticity, unitarity, and crossing symmetry - most prominently of the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance. Further, we study the Roper, $N(1440)$, resonance, which lies beyond the strict domain of validity, in comparison to Pad\'e approximants, comment on the role of subthreshold singularities in the $S$-wave, and determine the residues of the $f_0(500)$, $\rho(770)$, and $f_0(980)$ resonances in the $t$-channel process $\pi\pi\to\bar NN$. The latter allows us to test - for the first time fully model independently in terms of the respective residues - universality of the $\rho(770)$ couplings and the Goldberger-Treiman relation expected if the scalars behaved as dilatons, in both cases revealing large deviations from the narrow-resonance limit., Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure; journal version

In this work, we extend the analysis of the pion axioproduction, $aN \to \pi{N}$, to include the impact of the Roper resonance $N^*(1440)$ together the previously studied $\Delta(1232)$ resonance. Our theoretical framework is chiral perturbation theory with explicit resonance fields to account for their respective impacts. We find that the Roper resonance also leads to an enhancement of the cross section within its energy range for various axion models. This enhancement provided by the Roper maintains stability even when the parameter $\sin^2{\beta}$ of the DFSZ model undergoes variations. In contrast, the enhancement given by the $\Delta$ gradually diminishes and finally disappears as $\sin^2{\beta}$ approaches $1$. Furthermore, the resonance peaks given by the $\Delta$ are approximately the same in both the KSVZ model and the DFSZ model with $\sin^2{\beta} = \tfrac{1}{2}$, while the resonance peak given by the Roper in the former model is much more pronounced.

We propose a novel method for measuring the charge radii of charged stable hadrons, with which the first measurement of the charge radii of the $\Sigma^+$ and the $\Xi^-$ is foreseen. The method explores the facts that the Dalitz decay $\psi(2S) \to Y\bar{Y}e^+e^-$ contains the hyperon form factors and the lowest measurable four-momentum transfer squared can be as low as $\sim 4m_e^2= 1.05\times10^{-6}\,{\rm GeV^2}$ in the time-like region. We identify a kinematic region where the hyperon form factors are essential and propose a method for subtracting the background from the data. It is estimated that the hyperon charge radii can be measured to a precision of about {0.2~fm} with the BES\Rom{3} experiment and one order of magnitude better at the future Super $\tau$-Charm Facility. Moreover, the same method can be used to measure the charge radius of the proton, which provides an independent cross-check on the extraction of proton radius from elastic $ep$ scattering or leptonic hydrogen spectroscopy., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures; PLB accepted version

The nuclear charge radius of $^{32}$Si was determined using collinear laser spectroscopy. The experimental result was confronted with ab initio nuclear lattice effective field theory, valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group, and mean field calculations, highlighting important achievements and challenges of modern many-body methods. The charge radius of $^{32}$Si completes the radii of the mirror pair $^{32}$Ar - $^{32}$Si, whose difference was correlated to the slope $L$ of the symmetry energy in the nuclear equation of state. Our result suggests $L \leq 60$\,MeV, which agrees with complementary observables.

We present a parameter-free ab initio calculation of the $\alpha$-particle monopole transition form factor in the framework of nuclear lattice effective field theory. We use a minimal nuclear interaction that was previously used to reproduce the ground state properties of light nuclei, medium-mass nuclei, and neutron matter simultaneously with no more than a few percent error in the energies and charge radii. Starting from the SU(3) limit, we consider the nature of the dynamically generated resonances $\Lambda(1380)$, $\Lambda(1405)$ and $\Lambda(1680)$ as the pion and kaon masses are tuned to their physical values. We show that the accidental symmetry of the two octets due to the leading order Weinberg-Tomozawa term is broken by the next-to-leading order terms. Most interestingly, we observe an interchange of the two trajectories of the $\Lambda(1380)$ and the $\Lambda(1405)$ away from the SU(3) limit at next-to-leading order. This remarkable phenomenon can be investigated using lattice QCD calculations that start from the SU(3) limit., Comment: We have updated the notation compared to the journal version. Separation energies of light $\Lambda$ hypernuclei ($A\leq 5$) and their theoretical uncertainties are investigated. Few-body calculations are performed within the Faddeev-Yakubovsky scheme and the no-core shell model. Thereby, modern and up-to-date $N\!N$ and $Y\!N$ potentials derived within chiral effective field theory are employed. % It is found that the numerical uncertainties of the few-body methods are well under control and an accuracy of around $1$ keV for the hypertriton and of less than $20$ keV for the separation energies of the $^4_{\Lambda}\mathrm{He}$ and $^5_{\Lambda}\mathrm{He}$ hypernuclei can be achieved. Variations caused by differences in the $N\!N$ interaction are in the order of $10$ keV for $^3_{\Lambda}\mathrm{H}$ and no more than $110$ keV for $A=4,\,5$ $\Lambda$ hypernuclei, when recent high-precision potentials up to fifth order in the chiral expansion are employed. The variations are smaller than expected contributions from chiral $Y\!N\!N$ three-body forces (3BFs) which arise at the chiral order of state-of-the-art $Y\!N$ potentials. Exclusive electroproduction reactions provide an access to the structure of excited baryons. To extract electroproduction multipoles encoding this information, the J\"ulich-Bonn-Washington (JBW) analysis framework is extended to the analysis of differential cross sections in $K\Lambda$ electroproduction. This update enlarges the scope of previous coupled-channel analyses of pions and eta mesons, with photoproduction reactions as boundary condition in all analyzed electroproduction reactions. Polarization observables are predicted and compared to recent CLAS data. The comparison shows the relevance of these data to pin down baryon properties., Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures

This work aims at determining the composition of certain $N^*$ and $\Delta$ resonances, i.e. whether they are compact states formed directly by quarks and gluons, or hadronic molecules generated from the meson-baryon interaction. The information of the resonance poles is provided by a comprehensive coupled-channel approach, the J\"{u}lich-Bonn model. $13$ states that are significant in this approach are studied. Two criteria for each state are adopted in this paper, the comparison thereof roughly indicates the model uncertainties. It is found that the conclusions for $8$ resonances are relatively certain: $N(1535) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1440) \frac{1}{2}^+$, $N(1710) \frac{1}{2}^+$, and $N(1520) \frac{3}{2}^-$ tend to be composite; whereas $N(1650) \frac{1}{2}^-$, $N(1900) \frac{3}{2}^+$, $N(1680) \frac{5}{2}^+$, and $\Delta(1600) \frac{3}{2}^+$ tend to be compact., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures

Quantum Monte Carlo simulations are powerful and versatile tools for the quantum many-body problem. In addition to the usual calculations of energies and eigenstate observables, quantum Monte Carlo simulations can in principle be used to build fast and accurate many-body emulators using eigenvector continuation or design time-dependent Hamiltonians for adiabatic quantum computing. These new applications require something that is missing from the published literature, an efficient quantum Monte Carlo scheme for computing the inner product of ground state eigenvectors corresponding to different Hamiltonians. In this work, we introduce an algorithm called the floating block method, which solves the problem by performing Euclidean time evolution with two different Hamiltonians and interleaving the corresponding time blocks. We use the floating block method and nuclear lattice simulations to build eigenvector continuation emulators for energies of $^4$He, $^8$Be, $^{12}$C, and $^{16}$O nuclei over a range of local and non-local interaction couplings. We present the first ab initio lattice calculations of spin and density correlations in hot neutron matter using high-fidelity interactions at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N3LO) in chiral effective field theory. These correlations have a large impact on neutrino heating and shock revival in core-collapse supernovae and are encapsulated in functions called structure factors. Unfortunately, calculations of structure factors using high-fidelity chiral interactions were well out of reach using existing computational methods. In this work, we solve the problem using a computational approach called the rank-one operator (RO) method. The RO method is a general technique with broad applications to simulations of fermionic many-body systems. It solves the problem of exponential scaling of computational effort when using perturbation theory for higher-body operators and higher-order corrections. Using the RO method, we compute the vector and axial static structure factors for hot neutron matter as a function of temperature and density. The ab initio lattice results are in good agreement with virial expansion calculations at low densities but are more reliable at higher densities. Random phase approximation codes used to estimate neutrino opacity in core-collapse supernovae simulations can now be calibrated with ab initio lattice calculations.

We study the dependence of the primordial nuclear abundances as a function of the electromagnetic fine-structure constant $\alpha$, keeping all other fundamental constants fixed. We update the leading nuclear reaction rates, in particular the electromagnetic contribution to the neutron-proton mass difference pertinent to $\beta$-decays, and go beyond certain approximations made in the literature. In particular, we include the temperature-dependence of the leading nuclear reactions rates and assess the systematic uncertainties by using four different publicly available codes for Big Bang nucleosynthesis. Disregarding the unsolved so-called lithium-problem, we find that the current values for the observationally based $^{2}$H and $^{4}$He abundances restrict the fractional change in the fine-structure constant to less than $2\%$, which is a tighter bound than found in earlier works on the subject., Comment: 26 pages, 26 figures

We present a systematic ab initio study of clustering in hot dilute nuclear matter using nuclear lattice effective field theory with an SU(4)-symmetric interaction. We introduce a method called light-cluster distillation to determine the abundances of dimers, trimers, and alpha clusters as a function of density and temperature. Our lattice results are compared with an ideal gas model composed of free nucleons and clusters. Excellent agreement is found at very low density, while deviations from ideal gas abundances appear at increasing density due to cluster-nucleon and cluster-cluster interactions. In addition to determining the composition of hot dilute nuclear matter as a function of density and temperature, the lattice calculations also serve as benchmarks for virial expansion calculations, statistical models, and transport models of fragmentation and clustering in nucleus-nucleus collisions., Comment: 6+8 pages, 4+8 figures

In recent years, a persistent tension between phenomenological and lattice QCD determinations of the pion-nucleon $\sigma$-term $\sigma_{\pi N}$ has developed. In particular, lattice-QCD calculations have matured to the point that isospin-violating effects need to be included. Here, we point out that the standard conventions adopted in both fields are incompatible, with the data-driven extraction based on the charged-pion mass, but lattice-QCD conventions relying on the mass of the neutral pion to define the isospin limit. The corresponding correction amounts to $\Delta \sigma_{\pi N}=3.1(5)\,\text{MeV}$ when evaluated in chiral perturbation theory with low-energy constants determined from a Roy-Steiner analysis of pion-nucleon scattering as well as $\sigma_{\pi N}$ itself. It reduces the tension with lattice QCD, and should be included in the comparison to phenomenological determinations. We also update the extraction from pionic atoms accounting for the latest measurement of the width of pionic hydrogen, $\sigma_{\pi N}=59.0(3.5)\,\text{MeV}$, and provide the corresponding set of scalar couplings of the nucleon., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure; journal version

The internal structure of the charm-strange mesons $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}(2460)$ are subject of intensive studies. Their widths are small because they decay dominantly through isospin-breaking hadronic channels $D_{s0}^*(2317)^+\to D_s^+\pi^0$ and $D_{s1}(2460)^+\to D_s^{*+}\pi^0$. The $D_{s1}(2460)$ can also decay into the hadronic final states $D_s^+\pi\pi$, conserving isospin. In that case there is, however, a strong suppression from phase space. We study the transition $D_{s1}(2460)^+\to D_s^+\pi^+\pi^-$ in the scenario that the $D_{s1}(2460)$ is a $D^*K$ hadronic molecule. The $\pi\pi$ final state interaction is taken into account through dispersion relations. We find that the ratio of the partial widths of the $\Gamma(D_{s1}(2460)^+\to D_s^+\pi^+\pi^-)/\Gamma(D_{s1}(2460)^+\to D_s^{*+}\pi^0)$ obtained in the molecular picture is consistent with the existing experimental measurement. More interestingly, we demonstrate that the $\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass distribution shows a double bump structure, which can be used to disentangle the hadronic molecular picture from the compact state picture for the $D_{s1}(2460)^+$. Near-threshold $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ mass spectra for the reactions $e^+e^- \to \eta\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ and $e^+e^- \to \phi\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ are investigated with an emphasis on the role played by the interaction in the $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ system. A variety of $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ potential models is employed that have been established in the analysis of data on $p\bar p\to \Lambda\bar\Lambda$ in the past. It is shown that the near-threshold enhancement observed for the two $e^+e^-$ reactions can be reproduced by considering the $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ final-state interaction in the partial waves suggested by the helicity-angle analysis of the experiments. For $e^+e^- \to \eta\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ the same $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ $S$-wave interaction as in $e^+e^- \to \Lambda\bar\Lambda$ is relevant and with it a consistent description of the pertinent measurements can be achieved. It is pointed out that a nonzero threshold cross section as observed for the latter reaction is not supported by the new $\eta\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ data., Comment: 8 pages, 5, figures

We present an updated set of {\tt SKMHS} diffractive parton distribution functions (PDFs). In addition to the diffractive deep-inelastic scattering (diffractive DIS) data sets, the recent diffractive dijet cross sections measurements by the H1 experiment from the HERA collider are added to the data sample. The new set of diffractive PDFs, entitled {\tt SKMHS23} and {\tt SKMHS23-dijet}, are presented at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy in perturbative QCD. Since the gluons directly contribute to jet production through the boson-gluon fusion process, the data on diffractive dijet production in inclusive DIS help to constrain the gluon density, allowing for the determination of both the quark and gluon densities with better accuracy. The NLO and NNLO theory predictions calculated using both {\tt SKMHS23} and {\tt SKMHS23-dijet} are compared to the analyzed data showing excellent agreements. The effect arising from the inclusion of diffractive dijet data and higher order QCD corrections on the extracted diffractive PDFs and data/theory agreements are clearly examined and discussed., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures and 5 tables

We study the nature of the hidden charm pentaquarks, i.e. the $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$, with a neural network approach in pionless effective field theory. In this framework, the normal $\chi^2$ fitting approach cannot distinguish the quantum numbers of the $P_c(4440)$ and $P_c(4457)$. In contrast to that, the neural network-based approach can discriminate them. In addition, we also illustrate the role of each experimental data bin of the invariant $J/\psi p$ mass distribution on the underlying physics in both neural network and fitting methods. Their similarities and differences demonstrate that neural network methods can use data information more effectively and directly. This study provides more insights about how the neural network-based approach predicts the nature of exotic states from the mass spectrum., Comment: accepted by Science Bulletin

A hyperon-nucleon potential for the strangeness $S=-1$ sector ($\Lambda N$, $\Sigma N$) up to third order in the chiral expansion is presented. SU(3) flavor symmetry is imposed for constructing the interaction, however, the explicit SU(3) symmetry breaking by the physical masses of the pseudoscalar mesons and in the leading-order contact terms is taken into account. A novel regularization scheme is employed which has already been successfully used in studies of the nucleon-nucleon interaction within chiral effective field theory up to high orders. An excellent description of the low-energy $\Lambda p$, $\Sigma^- p$ and $\Sigma^+ p$ scattering data is achieved. New data from J-PARC on angular distributions for the $\Sigma N$ channels are analyzed. Results for the hypertriton and $A=4$ hyper-nuclear separation energies are presented. An uncertainty estimate for the chiral expansion is performed for selected hyperon-nucleon observables., Comment: 30 pages, 13 figures

A coupled-channel S- and P-wave next-to-leading order chiral-unitary approach for strangeness $S=-1$ meson-baryon scattering is extended to include the new data from the KLOE and AMADEUS experiments as well as the $\Lambda\pi$ mass distribution of the $\Sigma(1385)$. The positions of the poles on the second Riemann sheet corresponding to the $\Sigma(1385)$ pole and the $\Lambda(1380)$ and $\Lambda(1405)$ poles as well as the couplings of these states to various channels are calculated. We find that the resonance positions and branching ratios are on average determined with about 20\% higher precision when including the KLOE and AMADEUS data. Additionally, for the first time, the correlations between the parameters of the poles are investigated and shown to be relevant. We also find that the $\Sigma(1385)$ has negligible influence on the properties of the $\Lambda$ states given the available data. Still, we identify isospin-1 cusp structures in the present solution in light of new measurements of $\pi^\pm\Lambda$ line-shapes by the Belle collaboration., Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures

It was demonstrated in a series of papers employing unitarized chiral perturbation theory that the phenomenology of the scalar open-charm state, the $D_0^*(2300)$, can be understood as the interplay of two poles, corresponding to two scalar-isospin doublet states with different SU(3) flavor content. Within this formalism the lightest open charm positive parity states emerge as being dynamically generated from the scattering of the Goldstone-boson octet off $D$ mesons, a picture that at the same time solves various problems that the experimental observations posed. However, in recent lattice studies of $D\pi$ scattering at different pion masses only one pole was reported in the $D_0^*$ channel, while it was not possible to extract reliable parameters of a second pole from the lattice data. In this paper we demonstrate how this seeming contradiction can be understood and that imposing SU(3) constraints on the fitting amplitudes allows one to extract information on the second pole from the lattice data with minimal bias. The results may also be regarded as a showcase how approximate symmetries can be imposed in the $K$-matrix formalism to reduce the number of parameters., Comment: Version accepted by EPJC

We propose a new finite-volume approach which implements two- and three-body dynamics in a transparent way based on an Effective Field Theory Lagrangian. The formalism utilizes a particle-dimer picture and formulates the quantization conditions based on the self-energy of the decaying particle. The formalism is studied for the case of the Roper resonance, using input from lattice QCD and phenomenology. Finally, finite-volume energy eigenvalues are predicted and compared to existing results of lattice QCD calculations. We calculate the decay width of the $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Sigma^{+}\gamma$ using light-cone sum rules. For the initial quark radiation an effective Hamiltonian is constructed, where the internal quark line shrinks to a point. The final quark radiation is studied within the full theory. The leading twist light-cone distribution amplitudes of the $\Sigma^+$ serve as the non-perturbative input for the sum rules calculation, and the perturbative kernel is calculated at leading order. The branching fraction we obtain is ${\cal B}(\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Sigma^{+}\gamma)=1.03\pm 0.36 \times 10^{-4}$, which is below the recent upper limit $<2.6 \times 10^{-4}$ given by the Belle collaboration., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures and 2 tables

I summarize the dispersion-theoretical analysis of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. Special emphasis is given on the extraction of the proton charge radius and its relatives, the proton magnetic radius as well as the neutron magnetic radius. Some recent work on the hyperfine splitting in leptonic hydrogen and on radiative corrections to muon-proton scattering is also discussed. Ab initio calculations play an essential role in our fundamental understanding of quantum many-body systems across many subfields, from strongly correlated fermions to quantum chemistry and from atomic and molecular systems to nuclear physics. One of the primary challenges is to perform accurate calculations for systems where the interactions may be complicated and difficult for the chosen computational method to handle. Here we address the problem by introducing a new approach called wavefunction matching. Wavefunction matching transforms the interaction between particles so that the wavefunctions up to some finite range match that of an easily computable interaction. This allows for calculations of systems that would otherwise be impossible due to problems such as Monte Carlo sign cancellations. We apply the method to lattice Monte Carlo simulations of light nuclei, medium-mass nuclei, neutron matter, and nuclear matter. We use high-fidelity chiral effective field theory interactions and find good agreement with empirical data. These results are accompanied by new insights on the nuclear interactions that may help to resolve long-standing challenges in accurately reproducing nuclear binding energies, charge radii, and nuclear matter saturation in ab initio calculations., Comment: 24 pages, 10 figues, 13 tables.
