In this paper, pool boiling heat transfer data from experiments are presented to investigate bubble formation patterns and film growth on a large sized cylinder dipped in a pool. A wide range of heat flux has been applied over the cylinder to observe different regimes in boiling heat transfer. Nucleation, bubble merging during the transition, and sliding are captured through careful experimental efforts. Bubble sliding on the cylinder after inclining it with respect to horizontal has also been captured during the experiment which prompts the formation of large-sized bubbles on the surface. It has been established that the heat transfer coefficient varies nearly 2 times based on the azimuthal location of a large cylinder, bottom location of the cylinder showing the highest. Studies from inclined cylinder showed azimuthally bottom-most point of higher end has faster bubble release and highest heat transfer coefficient (∼2 times higher than top-most point of lower end). Spiral-like bubble motion has been noticed after detachment from nucleation sites over the inclined surface. Effect of cylinder surface inclination on boiling pattern has been also presented along with observations of bubble formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energy consumption in India is massive, and even the quantity used for household tasks is substantial. The majority of the requirement is satisfied by using fossil fuels, which are the traditional methods. Heating water is the most frequent home application. Accordingly, this article examines studies from the previous ten years. The information in this article demonstrates that using renewable energy is the greatest way to cut back on both the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions while heating water for residential use. Solar, hydroelectric, wind, and biofuels are the most significant renewable sources for improving building efficiency that can be used for an extended period of time. The solar water heater is a common example of how solar energy is being used in homes more frequently. In order to identify key issues and solutions related to employing solar water heaters as an effective water heating application in both commercial and residential buildings, this article compiles research data from earlier studies (2012–2022). The literature survey was carried out using Scopus, a specialized database. Sixty-six dedicated research publications having search keywords plus recently published articles that matched the inclusion criteria were chosen for this review study. The study's findings show that there is a greater inclination of researchers towards research and development in the field of domestic solar water heaters. The research publications that are being presented are all from the past 10 years (2012–2022) and stress the use of solar energy in increasing building efficiency. The study highlights how flat plate solar collectors with distilled water as the heat transfer fluid and a phase-changing substance as the thermal energy storage could potentially be enhanced. The thermal conductivity of paraffin wax and distilled water was improved by 75% of the researchers by using 0.05 to 0.5% concentrations of Al and Cu oxide nanoparticles, making it useful in solar water heaters. A total of 78% of researchers are interested in domestic water heating applications since they use a lot of energy in both urban and rural settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this article is to perform the turning operation on an EN36B steel work-billet with a tungsten carbide tool, to study the optimal cutting parameters and carry out an analysis of flank-wear. Experimental and simulation-based research methodology was opted in this study. Experimental results were obtained from the lab setup, and optimisation of parameters was performed using RSM (response surface methodology). Using RSM, cutting-tool flank-wear was optimised, and the cutting parameters which affect the flank wear were determined. In results main effect plot, contour plot, the surface plot for flank-wear and forces (Fx, Fy and Fz) were successfully obtained. It was concluded that tool flank-wear is affected by depth of cut, and that flank-wear generally increases linearly with increasing cutting-speed, depth of cut and feed-rate. To validate the obtained results, predicated and measured values were plotted and were in very close agreement, having an accuracy level of 96.33% to 98.92%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growing demand for energy in the building sector drives the need for change from fossil fuels to environment-friendly power sources which can also mitigate the effect of global warming and climate change. One of the initiatives to knock down the peak load and energy demand in buildings is stepping toward energy-efficient buildings for a sustainable future. This paper aims to review the fundamental aspects for approaching net zero energy consumption buildings (nZECB) keeping into consideration the effect of building physics and challenges faced in the pathway and its feasibility. Also, it addresses various policies and plans that can dramatically change the future of developing nations like India toward a zero-emissions energy system. Considering all the facts, this study suggests inflating our focus beyond direct energy use and opt for hybridized clean energy sources and enhance the constructional parameters for a better, greener, and cleaner future. Bubble dynamics and site interaction are studied numerically by solving conservation of mass, momentum, and energy equations for the liquid and vapor phases. The liquid-vapor interface is tracked by a volume of fluid method. The effects of applied mean heat flux, site-site interactions, orientation of the boiling surface, inclination of nucleating tunnels, and reentrant cavity shape on the bubble dynamics are investigated. With the increase of mean heat flux three separate regimes namely surface tension driven interaction, no interaction and instability driven interaction between the bubbles were shown. Closer nucleation sites fascilitates bubble merging whereas sites away from each other behaves like individual bubble release. Critical spacing between the sites are predicted bifurcating interaction and no interaction zones separately. Site-site interaction patterns are also tested on inclined planes and critical inclination angle has been reported beyond which columnar bubble formation is observed as a result of merging. Using numerical simulation efforts have been also made to check suitability of site inclination and base pocket at the end of the tunnel to generate high heat transfer coefficient.
