Based on social identity theory, this study aimed at evaluating the effect of perceived occupational prestige and self-stigma of seeking help on mental health issues (depression, stress, and anxiety) among medical doctors. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted on 374 medical doctors working in Vietnam with convenient sampling strategies. The study employed the 22-item version of the Perception of Occupational Status Survey (POSS), the Self-stigma of Seeking Help Scale (SSOSH), and the 21-item version of the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale (DASS-21). Results showed that perceived occupational prestige had a negative association with mental health issues among medical doctors. Furthermore, results suggested that the relationship between perceived occupational prestige and mental health was mediated by self-stigma of seeking help. Self-stigma of seeking help increased the risk of mental health issues. However, medical doctors perceived high occupational prestige, which weakened self-stigma of seeking help, and therefore, it indirectly reduces the risk of mental health issues among medical doctors. The results hence provide empirical support for social identity hypothesis. Lifestyle medicine (LM) should be incorporated as part of routine clinical work and medical education programs. Objective: To develop and test the validity and reliability of a questionnaire that measures the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of LM domains among medical trainees through practicing physicians. Methods: The KAP questionnaire sections covered the nine domains of LM. The validation process included face and content validity. A total of 151 individuals from the medical field residing in Saudi Arabia were recruited through a convenient sampling technique to participate in the study. Item response theory (IRT) was applied to validate the knowledge domain, while exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to assess attitude and practice. Cronbach's alpha was performed to test the reliability of the three sections. Results: The questionnaire contained 37 items of knowledge, 45 attitudes, and 28 practice items. According to the IRT analysis, 27 items of knowledge were within the acceptable range of difficulty and discrimination. The EFA analysis resulted in 6 factors, including all the items in the attitude domain, and 4 factors, for a total of 27 items in the practice domain, with satisfactory factor loading (>0.4). The Cronbach's alpha for the three domains was very high (≥0.88). Conclusions: The KAP questionnaire for LM is valid and reliable across a spectrum, from medical trainees to practicing physicians. This study assesses the knowledge, perception, and willingness of medical doctors toward telemedicine at three prominent hospitals in Bali: Siloam Hospitals Denpasar, Bali International Medical Centre Kuta, and Bali International Medical Center Nusa Dua. The research involved a cross-sectional quantitative approach using a questionnaire distributed to 40 participating general practitioners and specialists. Key findings revealed that while most doctors are familiar with telemedicine, there remains a variance in their perception and willingness to adopt it, largely influenced by demographic factors such as age, gender, and practice type. Despite the ongoing growth of telemedicine, the study highlights the need for targeted training and awareness programs to ensure its effective integration into healthcare services. Background: Industrial actions have become a common means by which medical doctors attempt to communicate their grievances to the government. Paediatricians are frequently caught between a desire to support the course of their professional association and caring for their patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the opinion of paediatricians and trainee paediatricians regarding strike actions, the likely cause(s) and their reasons for and against industrial actions as a means for communicating grievances to the government. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using self-administered questionnaires randomly distributed to consenting participants at the 48thAnnual Scientific Conference of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria. Data were analysed using SPSS version 20. Results: A total of 102 respondents from the 6 geopolitical zones in Nigeria returned appropriately filled forms. Fifty-seven (55.9%) were females, 91 (81.2%) were married, 72 (70.6%) were Christians and 49 (48%) were Consultant paediatricians. Poor remuneration (36%), poor working conditions (24.3%) and failure of the government to keep promises to doctors (19.9%) were the top three reasons given for the incessant industrial actions in the recent past. Forty-nine percent of respondents did not support industrial actions, 65% responded that strikes affect the quality of training and practice and (84.3%) volunteer their services during a strike. Conclusions: Industrial actions are not the paediatricians’ preferred means of communicating grievances. Other methods should, therefore, be explored to limit the deleterious effects of industrial actions.

Abstract Background The burnout rates among residents urge for adequate interventions to improve resilience and prevent burnout. Peer reflection, also called group intervision sessions, is a potentially successful intervention to increase the resilience of young doctors. We aimed to gain insight into the perceived added value of intervision sessions and the prerequisite conditions to achieve this, according to residents and intervisors. Our insights might be of help to those who think of implementing intervision sessions in their institution. Methods An explorative, qualitative study was performed using focus groups and semi-structured interviews with both residents (n = 8) and intervisors (n = 6) who participated in intervision sessions in a university medical center in the Netherlands. The topic list included the perceived added value of intervision sessions and factors contributing to that. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and coded using NVivo. Thematic analysis was subsequently performed. Results According to residents and intervisors, intervision sessions contributed to personal and professional identity development; improving collegiality; and preventing burn-out. Whether these added values were experienced, depended on: (1) choices made during preparation (intervisor choice, organizational prerequisites, group composition, workload); (2) conditions of the intervision sessions (safety, depth, role of intervisor, group dynamics, pre-existent development); and (3) the hospital climate. Conclusions Intervision sessions are perceived to be of added value to the identity development of medical residents and to prevent becoming burned out. This article gives insight in conditions necessary to reach the added value of intervision sessions. Optimizing preparation, meeting prerequisite conditions, and establishing a stimulating hospital climate are regarded as key to achieve this.

Historically, both donated bodies and unclaimed bodies have been the sources of human bodies for anatomy dissection globally with the latter discouraged for ethical reasons. Ghana lacks well‐established body‐donation programs, thus relying heavily on unclaimed bodies. Medical doctors benefit foremost from human bodies in their training and therefore should have a better disposition toward body bequeathal. This study assessed the perception, knowledge, and attitude of medical doctors in a Ghanaian institution toward body donation. As the first Ghanaian study on the subject, it provides the foundation for systematic study of the subject in Ghana. An internet‐based questionnaire was administered to volunteering medical doctors requesting information on their perception of, knowledge of, and attitude toward whole‐body donation. Data were summarized as frequencies. The 200 respondents comprised 1 consultant, 4 specialists, 14 residents, 63 medical officers, and 118 house officers. About 194 (97.0%) were familiar with body donation while 6 (3.0%) were not. Also, 39 (19.5%) were willing to donate their bodies, 98 (49.0%) were unwilling, and 63 (31.5%) undecided. Religion, culture, mishandling of bodies, and lack of awareness were barriers to body donation. Finally, 178 (89.0%) viewed human body dissection as relevant and should remain as part of medical curriculum. Doctors were aware of body donation though only few were willing to donate. Cultural and religious factors were major hindrances to body donation for anatomy education and research, though they were willing to persuade others to participate. Background: Medicine is a self-regulating profession. Doctors must learn how to self-regulate to keep up-to-date with evolving health care needs. This is challenging for those working at District Hospitals (DHs) in rural settings, where limited resources and understaffing may compound a poor approach and understanding of how to become a self-directed learner. Aim: To explore perspectives of doctors working in rural DHs, regarding their understanding of learning and learning needs. Setting: This study was conducted in Bethesda and Mseleni DHs, in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Methods: This was a qualitative study. Data was collected through 16 semi-structured interviews and non-participatory observations. Results: Four major themes emerged: “Why I learn,” “What I need to learn,” “How I learn,” and our learning environment.” This paper focussed on the first three themes. Doctors’ learning is influenced by various factors, including their engagement with clinical practice, personal motivation, and their learning process. Deliberate practice and engagement in reflective practice as key principles for workplace learning became evident. Conclusion: In rural DHs, doctors need to take a proactive self-regulated approach to their learning due to difficulties they encounter. They must build competence, autonomy, a sense of connection in their learning process, thus recognizing the need for continuous learning, motivating themselves, and understanding where they lack knowledge, all essential for achieving success. Contribution: This article contributes towards strengthening medical education in African rural context, by empowering medical educators and facility managers to meet the learning needs of doctors, thus contributing to the provision of quality health care.

While the importance of explicitly identifying and considering contingent factors such as decision content and context is widely accepted as a way to ensure the validity of the decision analysis for the specific task at hand, few studies include this. This research uses a contingency theoretical approach to study factors affecting the emigration decision of medical doctors (MDs) for the specific case of Turkey. The motivation for conducting this study arises from the observation that the growing trend in emigration among MDs from Turkey is having a significant impact on the country’s healthcare system. Dealing with the emigration of MDs is crucial for ensuring an effective and sustainable healthcare system, especially in terms of the availability of services, satisfaction, and employment of the healthcare staff. Contextual factors were explicitly identified through consultation with experts, while the generic factors were retrieved from the specialized medical migration literature. The Analytic Hierarchy Process method was utilized to prioritize the factors. Seventy-three participants were surveyed about their intention to either study or work abroad. The findings reveal that low remuneration and anxiety about their future due to the political situation in the country constitute the two most important factors driving the decision to emigrate.

Abstract Background Self‐medication is a fairly common practice among medical doctors. Although frequently seen in clinical practice, there are few published studies that describe the process of self‐treatment in dermatology, being even lower in number those that evaluate this circumstance among health professionals. Objectives To know the prevalence of self‐medication among medical professionals in our centre, to assess the need for preventive and training actions that help to avoid the misuse of dermatological treatments. Methods Descriptive cross‐sectional study based on the responses of non‐dermatologist medical professionals at the University Hospital of Pontevedra (Spain). Data were collected through a self‐administered, anonymous and voluntary online questionnaire. Results The questionnaire was completed by 283 physicians (50.63% participation rate, 62.90% females). Up to 77.39% of the physicians carried out self‐treatment for any pathology, and 55.12% for dermatological problems. The mean age of the doctors who practiced self‐treatment was significantly higher. The most used drugs were corticosteroids as topical treatment and antihistamines as systemic therapy. Irritant or allergic contact dermatitis was the most frequent pathology considered suitable for self‐medication (18.02%), followed by fungal infections (16.86%). After self‐treatment, the 7.5% needed to be seen by a dermatologist. A large group of 69.23% stated that they would recommend the treatment carried out to someone suffering from a similar process. Conclusions The prevalence of self‐treatment for skin diseases among doctors was strikingly high (55.12%). More than two‐thirds of the surveyed physicians would recommend self‐treatment in the dermatology field. As the literature on this topic is yet scarce, further studies are required to corroborate data collected in this study.

The study aimed to explore the turnover behavior and intention and correlated factors among Chinese dentists and medical doctors in other clinical fields. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted online in 5 regions of China from March 12th to April 12th, 2020. The questionnaire included 3 parts, socio-demographic characteristics, turnover behavior and intention, and concerns about work-related factors. Chi-square test and/or Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney test were applied for comparison, and binary logistic regression was used for finding the factors. Results A total of 2428 eligible questionnaire were received, comprising 1954 responses from dentists and 474 from medical doctors. Rates of turnover behavior among dentists and medical doctors were 2.87% and 6.96%, respectively. Similarly, rates of turnover intention were 51.79% among dentists and 71.20% among medical doctors. Educational level was negatively correlated with turnover behavior of both medical doctors and dentists, and concern about salary was a unique negatively correlated factor for dentists. Age was negatively correlated with turnover intention in both medical doctors and dentists. Conversely, concerns about workload and doctor-patient relationship were positively correlated with turnover intention in both groups. Concern about salary was the distinct correlated factor of medical doctors’ turnover intention, while gender and annual household income were correlated with turnover intention among dentists. Conclusions Low turnover rate but high turnover intention rate was the current status of Chinese doctors’ employment. Turnover behavior and intention were more optimistic among dentists than medical doctors. Factors related to turnover behavior and turnover intention were not identical among dentists and medical doctors. Therefore, personalized retention measures were necessary for dentists and medical doctors.

Background: Burnout, resulting from chronic workplace stress that has been unsuccessfully managed, has previously been documented in doctors. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has increased occupational challenges faced by doctors, potentiating their risk for burnout. Aim: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and determinants of burnout among medical doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Setting: Three public sector hospitals in Gqeberha, South Africa. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 260 voluntary participants was conducted. Participants completed self-administered electronic questionnaires. Logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the determinants of burnout. Results: The prevalence of burnout in this study was 78%. Burnout was significantly associated with being a medical intern or community-service medical officer (adjusted odd ratio [AOR] = 6.72, 1.71–26.40), being in the lowest income band (AOR = 10.78, 2.55–45.49), and using alcohol to manage work-related stress (AOR = 3.01, 1.12–8.04). Job-related factors associated with burnout were experiencing high conflict at work (AOR = 5.04, 1.92–13.20) and high role ambiguity and role conflict (AOR = 4.49, 1.98–10.18). Low support at work (AOR = 9.99, 3.66–27.23), medium job satisfaction (AOR = 5.38, 2.65–10.93) and medium support at work (AOR = 3.39, 1.71–6.73) were positively associated with burnout. Participants with medium (AOR = 0.28, 0.10–0.80) and high levels of resilience (AOR = 0.08, 0.03–0.25) were protected against burnout. Coronavirus disease 2019-related factors were not significantly associated with burnout. Conclusion: The burnout prevalence among South African medical doctors at public hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic was high and strongly associated with job stress factors. Contribution: Given the increased prevalence of burnout among doctors and the strong associations with job stress factors, mitigation of burnout requires targeted organisational interventions.

Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze healthcare workers' perceptions of the Slovak health system. Design: We conducted a mixed-design cross-sectional study that combined qualitative and quantitative analyses. Methods: We collected 269 associations with the cue word "health system" from 91 health workers (30 medical doctors, 30 nurses, and 31 paramedics) to access social representations of the studied phenomenon. After establishing the final list of categories, we calculated frequencies and proportions, and also conducted a network analysis of associations. Results: We identified 13 main categories, of which 53.5% had a neutral emotional charge, 38% carried a negative charge, and only 4% indicated a positive charge. The most saturated category was the Meaning of work (20.8%), followed by Negative general perceptions (14.9%), which was also the most central category. The strongest point of connection between neutral and negative categories in network analysis was between Negative general perception and the Meaning of work. Conclusion: Our study revealed that negatively valenced associations about the system were numerous and dominant. Despite this fact, health workers still perceived their job to be meaningful, which is one of the possible explanations for their staying in a system perceived to be dysfunctional.

Recently, tablet-based devices have become significantly more utilized platforms for electronic medical record (EMR) systems. EMR is the digital counterpart of the medical doctor's office paper charts. EMR systems contain the medical and treatment histories of the patients in a unified practice. Nevertheless, statistics indicate that a considerable percentage of medical doctors are elderly, aged 60 and above. As using mobile handheld devices (including tablets) poses a well-recognized usability challenge for elderly users, the user interface (UI) usability of tablet-based EMR systems must be thoroughly assessed, considering the needs of elderly medical doctors. Accordingly, our objective is to address this need. Three expert evaluators implemented the heuristic evaluation (HE) approach to evaluate the UI usability of a commercial EMR system that is a tablet-based platform. Applying the HE approach helped identify usability problems that elderly medical doctors might encounter when utilizing a tablet-based EMR UI. Checklists reduce time to comprehensive radiographic reports, improve quality and consistency of abnormality detection on chest radiographs. The aim of this review was to examine and survey the scope of published research on checklists for the interpretation of chest radiographs. We conducted a search of CINAHL, Scopus, Medline Ovid, Web of Science, ProQuest, and gray literature using search terms: chest radiographs, checklist, and image interpretation. Data were extracted from 16 articles. Data was analyzed numerically and thematically. The selected studies were conducted in the United States (37.5%), the United Kingdom (25%), Australia (12%), South Africa (12%), Turkey (6%), and Israel (6%). The codes were grouped into five categories related to the use of checklists, in chest interpretation. In the selected studies, reports showed that there was no checklist for chest interpretation in South Africa and no evidence supporting checklists as an interprofessional communication tool for chest interpretation. The authors of this study recommended a chest interpretation checklist should be developed for use by health care professionals practicing in resource-limited settings where radiologists are not on site. • Chest radiograph can be used to diagnose conditions affecting the chest and surrounding structures. • The shortage of radiologists has been exacerbated by technological advances in digital imaging modalities. • Checklists may improve communication, support teamwork, ensure patient safety, and enhance collaborative knowledge-sharing to enhance the interpretation of chest radiographs. • The content on blood transfusion is contained in all the curricula of medical schools in Kenya. • The essential aspects of blood transfusion are covered in the curricula of Kenyan medical schools. • Knowledge of blood transfusion was viewed as important to clinical practice by Kenyan-trained non-specialist medical doctors. • Non-specialist medical doctors in Kenya felt that they needed additional training in blood transfusion. Although blood transfusion (BT) service is important in modern health care, blood is scarce, costly, and without risks. Medical education should therefore play a role in equipping medical doctors with the necessary BT knowledge, skills, and attitudes for optimal utilization of blood. This study aimed at determining the adequacy of curriculum content of Kenyan medical schools and the clinicians' perceptions of undergraduate education in BT. A cross-sectional study was conducted among non-specialist medical doctors and the curricula of Kenyan medical schools. Data was collected using questionnaires and data abstraction forms and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Curricula from six medical schools and 150 clinicians were studied. All six curricula covered topics that are essential in BT and had the content integrated into the haematology course taught during the third year. The majority (62%) of the doctors perceived their knowledge of BT as being either fair or poor, and 96% reported that knowledge of BT was important to their clinical practice. The rating of perceived knowledge in BT was significant between the different cadres of clinicians (H (2) = 7.891, p = 0.019), and all participants (100%) acknowledged the usefulness of additional training in BT. The Kenyan medical schools' curricula covered topics that are essential for safe BT practice. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical role of medical doctors in vaccine recommendation adherence. This study aimed to explore the factors influencing adherence to COVID-19 vaccine recommendations among Romanian medical doctors, one year into the vaccination campaign. We conducted a cross-sectional voluntary survey, and data from 94 physician respondents were analysed. We found that specialty, fear of adverse effects, and inflexible thinking were significant factors influencing vaccine recommendation adherence. General practitioners have higher adherence, while surgical specialists are more reluctant. Political and religious views don't associate with adherence to vaccine recommendations. These findings emphasize the importance of educational interventions to improve adherence and mitigate fear among medical doctors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Work-related skin conditions, including work-related irritant and allergic contact dermatitis, rank as the second most prevalent among work-related diseases. The most commonly reported manifestation of these conditions is hand eczema, which develops due to exposure to various substances in the workplace. Understanding the origins and triggers of eczema and contact dermatitis enables healthcare professionals to educate themselves and their patients about effective preventive measures, such as avoiding specific irritants and allergens, using protective equipment, and maintaining proper skincare hygiene. Additionally, this knowledge facilitates the development of new recommendations to enhance skin protection in work-related settings, regulate the use of substances known to cause work-related skin diseases, and provide healthcare practitioners with the necessary training to recognize and manage these conditions. Given that approximately one in every five healthcare workers is considered to have hand eczema, the objective of this study was to review the existing literature regarding the characteristics of eczema in healthcare workers. Furthermore, this study aimed to comprehensively investigate environmental and constitutional factors (including years of work experience involving exposure to skin hazards, frequent glove use, regular handwashing and water contact, frequent use of disinfectants and detergents, and a history of previous allergies and atopic dermatitis) that influence the occurrence and progression of eczema. This study examines the psychological repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on a medical team in an Israeli general hospital. The research explores the professional quality of life, burnout symptoms, secondary traumatic stress, and mindfulness among team members across three distinct phases of the pandemic. Analysis was conducted for different subgroups based on job roles and seniority, allowing for an evaluation of the phase-specific effects on ProQOL (Professional Quality of Life) and mindfulness. Results align with established crisis trajectories: honeymoon/heroic phases, inventory, disillusionment, and recovery. As a result of the prolonged pandemic and the need to change shifts and recruit staff to deal with the affected patients, it is an accumulative study not following the same person but the same ward and the same hospital. The findings suggest a negative correlation between compassion satisfaction and burnout, as well as between mindfulness and burnout/secondary traumatic stress. Unlike most studies, healthcare workers (HCWs) were less affected than doctors in all measures. This study highlights doctors’ vulnerability and underscores hospital management’s key role in promoting effective support for professional quality of life. This is especially important for male doctors facing distinct well-being challenges.

Abstract Introduction What is known about checklists for interpreting chest radiographs? The question will guide the development of the inclusion criteria for the scoping review. Breaking down the scoping review question will allow the evaluation of inclusion and exclusion criteria for the protocol. The eligibility of the proposed research question will be assessed using the Population or Participants, Concept and Context (PCC) framework. Background X-ray reporting can be standardised using checklists. Checklists may reduce the time needed to produce a comprehensive X-ray report and improve the quality and consistency of detecting abnormalities on chest radiographs. This scoping review aims to map the available literature on what is known about checklists for interpreting chest radiographs. Methods We will follow the methodological framework for scoping reviews originally described by Arksey and O’Malley. The scoping review will include articles that describe checklists for reducing diagnostic errors, checklists for analysing chest radiographs, checklists for identifying abnormalities on chest radiographs and checklists for reporting chest radiographs in all settings. Search terms are chest radiographs, checklists, and chest X-rays. We will search for peer-reviewed articles and grey literature including dissertations and theses. We will search online databases including Ovid Medline and Ebscohost, to identify articles published in English from 1994 to 2022. The searched articles will undergo two levels of screening, first the title and abstract screening, then a full-text screening by two reviewers. Data from the selected articles will be extracted, using a tested extraction form and charted using the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines. Results The results will be collated, summarised and discussed including any limitations of the included articles. The articles will be summarised in a table, as well as narratively. The distribution of studies will be summarised quantitatively and the numerical analysis will provide an overview and identify knowledge gaps. Content analysis will map different checklists available for chest interpretation. Discussion The results of the scoping review will be used to develop a checklist that will be used by medical doctors in collaboration with radiographers working in settings where there are no radiologists on-site, for interpreting chest radiographs. BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is promoted by inappropriate use and is a greater burden for low to middle income countries (LMIC) than high income countries (HIC). OBJECTIVE: This systematic review aimed to compare the awareness of inappropriate use related to AMR among medical doctors from LMIC and HIC using published knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) studies. METHODS: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines, sequential systematic literature search of PubMed and Web of Science databases for articles published since inception up to June 1, 2022 for KAP studies involving medical doctors. Using fifteen KAP items related to promoting AMR, data on proportion of participants responding affirmatively was extracted and reported using means, ranges and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: Forty-two studies met the inclusion criteria and involved 13,089 medical doctors from 11HIC and 21LMIC. All were cross-sectional studies, 71.4% involved non-probability sampling and 78.6% were of satisfactory quality. Knowledge items showed mean proportion of more medical doctors responding correctly. Similar affirmation trends were observed for attitude and prescribing practice items. Awareness appeared similar between medical doctors of the economic groups, except for a greater interest in training for LMIC (95.4%; 95%CI 93.0%, 97.9%) versus HIC (81.7%; 95%CI 65.6%, 97.9%). Countries with poor proportions were identified in both economic groups. CONCLUSION: For identified studies, trends suggest good awareness among medical doctors of the known inappropriate use and perceived threat of AMR, as well as prescribing practices to reduce the risk of AMR. The study involved distributing a questionnaire to physicians across the country, using contact information from the Indonesian Physician Association database. The results show that out of the 383 participants, 25.6% experienced moderate symptoms of COVID-19, and 2.9% required critical care. The study found that 20.3% of physicians demonstrated hesitancy to treat suspected, probable, or confirmed COVID-19 patients. Interestingly, older physicians and those with less experience in treating COVID-19 patients were found to have a higher hesitancy rate, while specialist trainees and those working in public hospitals demonstrated the lowest hesitancy. These findings highlight the significant hesitancy among physicians who have suffered from COVID-19 and underline the need for management and policymakers to take further action to address this issue. Objective: The recent increasing incidence of human monkeypox cases highlights the necessity of early detection, prompt response and preventive management to stop it in its tracks, and healthcare workers play the most crucial role here. This study aims at assessing the preparedness of Bangladeshi medical doctors by assessing their knowledge and attitude regarding monkeypox. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted among the practicing medical doctors all over Bangladesh. The data was collected from 26th May to 4th June of 2022 using a semi-structured and self-administered questionnaire which was distributed through the internet, and a total of 389 data was collected. The cut-off points for defining good knowledge and positive attitude towards human monkeypox were considered as 70% and 80% of total values, respectively. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were carried out to identify the factors associated with good knowledge and a positive attitude. Statistical software R version 4.2.0 was used for data analysis. Result: Of all, 330 (84.83%) doctors displayed a positive attitude towards preventive practices, but only 119 (30.59%) participants had good knowledge regarding monkeypox. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, getting any information about monkeypox in the medical curriculum and learning about monkeypox within the last one month had a significant association with good knowledge. Background: Social media (SM) usage is on the rise among health professionals at all levels to align with the emerging digital and SM era. e-Professionalism is described as attitudes and actions that resemble traditional professionalism paradigms but are expressed through digital media. Although there are a number of studies conducted in the past several years measuring e-professionalism of medical and dental professionals, there is no validated scale to assess the level of e-professionalism among medical and dental professionals in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, this study aimed to assess attitudes toward e-professionalism among medical and dental professionals in Saudi Arabia using the SMePROF-S scale. Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 338 medical and dental students and practitioners from 20 cities in Saudi Arabia to complete an online SMePROF-S self-reported questionnaire measuring attitudes about e-professionalism. Results: Among participants, 31.66% believed that it is acceptable to communicate with patients through SM, but only 16.86% agreed with communicating via personal SM account messaging. Many participants (35.80%-50%) fear that SM use can cause problems with getting hired, people making inaccurate assumptions and perceptions, and job losses. There were 31.36% who believed that sharing patient information without consent is acceptable. The majority (63.02%-63.31%) do not believe that medical/dental professionals should be barred from using SM, and 40.53% believe that schools/organizations have no right to interfere with their online activities. Only 22.19% believed that SM use removed professional protections from the public. A few statements were statistically different by specialty and gender. Conclusion: There is a variability of attitudes about e-professionalism among medical and dental professionals in Saudi Arabia, with some alarming issues requiring national guidelines to ensure patient rights, privacy, and confidentiality. Jordanian healthcare institutes have launched several programs since 2009 to establish health information systems (HISs). Nowadays, the generic expectation is that the use of HIS resources is performed on daily basis among healthcare staff. However, there can be still a noticeable barrier due to a lack of knowledge if medical doctors do not receive proper training on existing HISs. Moreover, the lack of studies on this area hinders the clarity about the received versus the required training skills among medical doctors. To support this research initiative, survey data have been collected from specialized medical doctors who are currently affiliated with five Jordanian universities to assess their need for HIS training. The results also aim to explore the extent of medical doctors' use of HIS resources in Jordan. Moreover, they examine whether medical doctors require additional training on using HIS resources or not, as well as the main areas of required training programs. Specifically, this paper highlights the main topics that can be suitable subjects for enhanced training programs. The results show that most respondents use HISs in their daily clinical practices. However, most of them have not taken professional training on such systems. Hence, most of the respondents reported the need for additional training programs on several aspects of HIS resources. Moreover, based on the survey results, the most significant areas that require training are biomedical data analysis, artificial intelligence in medicine, health care management, and recent advances in electronic health records, respectively. Therefore, specialized medical doctors in Jordan need training on extracting useful and potential features of HISs. Education and training professionals in healthcare are recommended to establish training programs in Jordanian healthcare centers, which can further improve the quality of healthcare. Background: Low back pain (LBP) is the 5th leading cause of physician consultation and is a significant cause of lost workforce hours with tremendous economic implications in every society. These findings suggest that medical practice in Nigeria is a potential risk factor for developing low back pain. Few studies have attempted to evaluate the medical specialties as risk factors for LBP. This study evaluates the prevalence of low back pain among various Specialist Medical Consultants in a typical Teaching Hospital. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study performed using self-administered questionnaires. The study population comprised Specialist Medical Consultants working at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The questionnaires were distributed among consultant physicians regardless of their departments. Information about their age, sex, medical specialties, presence frequency and severity of LBP; interventions received, and outcome were obtained. Result: There were 98 respondents, 56 (57%) males and 42 (43%) females who participated in the study. The modal age of the respondents is the 41-50 years age group (45%). 44%, were from the surgical specialties (surgery, anaesthesia, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology); 33% from the internal and family medicine specialties; (11) 11% pediatricians and (12) 12.2 % were pathologists. The prevalence of low back pain was 60.2%, slightly more prevalent in males (62%) than females (58%). Of those who have experienced low back pain, 35.6% suffered mild pain (VAS 1-4), 49% suffered moderate pain (VAS 5-7) while 17% suffered severe pain (VAS 8-10). The majority (57.6%) had suffered more than 3 episodes of LBP while 84.8% sought treatment for their symptom mostly using NSAIDS. Conclusion: LBP has a high prevalence among Specialist Medical Consultants in UPTH potentially affecting patient treatment and student education. Abstract Background Social networking sites (SNSs) have penetrated all aspects of health care professionals’ (HCPs’) professional and private lives. A new term, e-professionalism, has emerged, which describes the linking of traditional values with this new dynamic online environment for HCPs. The four aims of this study were: (1) to examine their SNS prevalence and usage habits, (2) to examine their perception of e-professionalism, (3) to develop an e-professionalism assessment compatibility index and (4) to investigate their tendencies and differences in values of the e-professionalism assessment compatibility index (ePACI). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among MDs and DMDs in Croatia via email using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to all MDs and DMDs who were members of their respective chambers. In addition to descriptive statistics, Chi-square or Fisher’s exact test when appropriate, t-test, ANOVA and Mann–Whitney U tests were used to determine differences between groups. A principal component analysis (PCA) with varimax rotation was used to investigate dimensionality. Results of the PCA were compared to the coding based on the Social Media e-Professionalism rubric in order to create the ePACI. Results Of the 1013 gathered responses, 753 were from valid SNS users and suitable for further analysis. Facebook (91.6%) and Instagram (63.1%) were the predominant SNSs used. Abstract Introduction Considering the geopolitical changes in the six Western Balkan countries—Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia—over the last three decades, particularly as it concerns the progress and changes in the healthcare systems, we argue that there is a need for a detailed analysis of people's trust in those healthcare systems and healthcare providers. Methods In this cross‐sectional, intercountry study, we examine the trust trends of Western Balkans citizens in medical doctors and public and private healthcare institutions from 25 July 2021 to 30 October 2021, with 3789 participants using a self‐reported questionnaire, and Google Forms. Snowball sampling is used to collect data from six Western Balkans countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. Findings The primary findings of our study show that citizens in the Western Balkans have a low level of trust in their healthcare system (X̄ = 4.3/10). Medical doctors working in private healthcare institutions, on the other hand, are afforded a higher level of trust (X̄ = 6.6/10) than those working in public healthcare institutions (X̄ = 5.7/10). In the event that they or their family members need to visit a health institution, half of the study participants would choose private healthcare institutions over public ones. Abstract Background Physical activity is a major determinant of physical and mental health. International recommendations identify health professionals as pivotal agents to tackle physical inactivity. This study sought to characterize medical doctors’ clinical practices concerning the promotion of patients’ physical activity, while also exploring potential predictors of the frequency and content of these practices, including doctors’ physical activity level and sedentary behaviours. Methods A cross-sectional study assessed physical activity promotion in clinical practice with a self-report questionnaire delivered through the national medical prescription software (naturalistic survey). Physical activity and sedentary behaviours were estimated using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (short form). Indicators of medical doctors’ attitudes, knowledge, confidence, barriers, and previous training concerning physical activity promotion targeting their patients were also assessed. Multiple regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of physical activity promotion frequency by medical doctors, including sociodemographic, attitudes and knowledge-related variables, and physical activity behaviours as independent variables. Results A total of 961 medical doctors working in the Portuguese National Health System participated (59% women, mean age 44 ± 13 years) in the study. The objective of the article is to study the perception of medical doctors by Hindu, Russian and Kazakh linguoculture bearers by means of cognitive analysis of association data obtained from the psycholinguistic experimental study conducted among Hindi, Russian and Kazakh native speakers. Methods of the research include a free association experiment with a stimulus words डॉक्टर in Hindi, врач in Russian, and дəрігер in Kazakh, modelling the associative field DOCTOR and its cognitive structure, defining the universal and ethno-specific features of medical doctors as perceived by the representatives of Indian, Russian and Kazakh nations. The obtained associative data were distributed according to the frequency criterion, followed by content analysis and categorization. As a result, while comparing association fields in Hindi, Russian, and Kazakh languages the quantitative asymmetry of semantic zones and their associates is revealed. Conceptualization of medical doctors in the Hindu, Russian and Kazakh language consciousness includes both universal and ethno-specific features. The results of the study integrate the experiences of different nations simplifying the perception of their peculiarities, and may have a positive impact on cross-cultural interactions.

COVID-19 has further exacerbated trends of widening health inequalities in the UK. Shockingly, the number of years of life lived in general good health differs by over 18 years between the most and least deprived areas of England. Poor diets and obesity are established major risk factors for chronic cardiometabolic diseases and cancer, as well as severe COVID-19. For doctors to provide the best care to their patients, there is an urgent need to improve nutrition education in undergraduate medical school training. With this imperative, the Association for Nutrition established an Interprofessional Working Group on Medical Education (AfN IPG) to develop a new, modern undergraduate nutrition curriculum for medical doctors. The AfN IPG brought together expertise from nutrition, dietetic and medical professionals, representing the National Health Service (NHS), royal colleges, medical schools and universities, government public health departments, learned societies, medical students, and nutrition educators. The curriculum was developed with the key objective of being implementable through integration with the current undergraduate training of medical doctors. Through an iterative and transparent consultative process, thirteen key nutritional competencies, to be achieved through mastery of eleven graduation fundamentals, were established. The curriculum to facilitate the achievement of these key competencies is divided into eight topic areas, each underpinned by a learning objective statement and teaching points detailing the knowledge and skills development required. The teaching points can be achieved through clinical teaching and a combination of facilitated learning activities and practical skill acquisition. Therefore, the nutrition curriculum enables mastery of these nutritional competencies in a way that will complement and strengthen medical students' achievement of the General Medical Council (GMC) Outcome for Graduates. As nutrition is an integrative science, the AfN IPG recommends that the curriculum is incorporated into initial undergraduate medical studies before specialist training. This will enable our future doctors to recognise how nutrition is related to multiple aspects of their training, from physiological systems to patient-centred care, and acquire a broad, inclusive understanding of health and disease. In addition, it will facilitate medical schools to embed nutrition learning opportunities within the core medical training, without the need to add in a large number of new components to an already crowded programme or with additional burden for teaching staff. The undergraduate nutrition curriculum for medical doctors is designed to support medical schools to create future doctors who will understand and recognise the role of nutrition in health. Moreover, it will equip frontline staff to feel empowered to raise nutrition-related issues with their patients as a fundamental part of enhanced care and to appropriately refer on for nutrition support with a registered associate nutritionist/registered nutritionist (ANutr/RNutr) or registered dietitian (RD) where this is likely to be beneficial. COVID-19 pandemic is facing healthcare professionals with unprecedented challenges, which might alter their mental health. We targeted assessing depression, generalized anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of Moroccan medical doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic; this would allow identifying the associated factors. A cross-sectional national study was carried out on 1267 exposed and unexposed public health medical doctors to COVID-19 patients. The study was conducted between May 15 and 15 June 2020. An anonymous self-administered questionnaire was completed online voluntarily and randomly. We used the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), and the PTSD Checklist for DSM‑5 (PCL-5) to assess depression, generalized anxiety, and PTSD, respectively. The respondents' rate was 63.3%. The mean age was 30.97 ± 6.65 years old, and 59.3% (N = 751) were females with a sex ratio M/F of 0.68. The sample included 43.0% (N = 545) of COVID-19 frontline doctors. Among all participants, 31.5% (N = 400) had depression, 29.2% (N = 370) had generalized anxiety, and 21.7% (N = 276) had PTSD. The average scores of the PHQ-9, the GAD-7, and the PCL-5 were 7.79 (± 5.54), 6.12 (±5.72), and 18.58 (±17.62), respectively. The multivariate logistic regression showed that working in primary and secondary hospitals, moderate and high-stress perceptions, a chronic physical illness, and a family history of psychiatric disorder were independently associated factors of depression, generalized anxiety, and PTSD. The females expressed significantly more anxiety. Doctors living in a family consisting of member with chronic disease showed a significantly higher risk of PTSD. The security sense of contamination risk and low threat perception of COVID-19 were significantly protective factors of depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Moroccan medical doctors are in psychological distress. Aim: To describe the challenges for optimum resuscitation processes in Emergency Departments in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Design: A qualitative explorative research approach was adopted to explore the resuscitation team's experiences in Emergency Departments. Method: Five medical doctors and twelve professional nurses were purposively sampled to participate in the study. The depth of the information obtained from the participants determined the sample size. Data collected from semi-structured individual interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. Data quality was ensured by applying four elements: credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Results: The study findings indicated diverse challenges for optimum resuscitation processes that include: A general shortage of emergency personnel, the lack of material resources and the unavailability of funds for payment of national and international trauma symposiums, the poor maintenance of emergency equipment, the lack of a continuous training program and the resuscitation team receiving different instructions from various team leaders about the standardized procedures and policies of the resuscitation process. The team leaders and managers often blamed, depreciated and disregarded the resuscitation team for failed resuscitation efforts. Public contribution: The study findings are a point of reference for the emergency resuscitation team and the department of health policymakers. Abstract Background The professional dental cleaning (PDC) is an effective supplement that can make up for the lack of self-oral health care. Everyone should develop the habit of regular PDC. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, behaviors and medical compliance of dentists, medical doctors and non-medical staffs about the PDC, identify the gaps, and provide information to help individuals develop healthy oral hygiene habit. Materials and methods A web-based survey with 21 questions designed based on the characteristics, the PDC knowledge, behaviors, and medical compliance of respondents. A cross-sectional study was conducted in the main districts of Chongqing, China, in the period of September–November 2020. A total of 456 respondents including 153 dentists, 137 medical doctors and 166 non-medical staffs in 3 communities and 4 hospitals were sampled online with multistage sampling and surveyed. The data was analyzed by chi-square test using IBM SPSS Statistics v. 21.0. Results The cognitive level and behavior of dentists on the PDC was significantly better than that of medical doctors and non-medical staffs (p = 0.000–0.044). The rates of not knowing “dental plaque” were 32.85% and 61.45%, of the medical doctors and non-medical staffs. Meanwhile, most of them had misunderstanding about effects of the PDC. They thought it would whiten teeth (72.99%, 80.72%), damage gums (16.79%, 19.88%) and teeth (15.33%, 21.69%), and create bigger gaps between teeth (24.82%, 33.13%). In terms of gum health and the PDC behavior, significant differences were observed, 23.53% of dentists experienced irritated gum bleeding in the last 12 months, 42.28% did not have their teeth cleaned professionally in the last 12 months, even 7.84% never had it before. Compared with it, in the same situation, the ratios of medical doctors and non-medical staffs were about 60% experiencing irritated gum bleeding, 69.34% and 77.71% not experiencing the PDC in the last 12 months, up to 33.58% and 45.18% never experienced it before. 41 respondents (8.99%) disagreed with the reasonable and necessary medical behaviors before the PDC. Conclusion People's understanding about the PDC was insufficient, and many people, included some dentists, had not developed the habit of regular dental cleaning. Our study provided a new understanding of the PDC among dentists, medical doctors, and non-medical staffs, which may help to improve their awareness and behavior of oral hygiene health, and establish the multidisciplinary collaborations between dentists and medical doctors.

Background: Social networking sites (SNSs) have penetrated all aspects of health care professionals' (HCPs') professional and private lives. A new term, e-professionalism, has emerged, which describes the linking of traditional values with this new dynamic online environment for HCPs. The four aims of this study were: (1) to examine their SNS prevalence and usage habits, (2) to examine their perception of e-professionalism, (3) to develop an e-professionalism assessment compatibility index and (4) to investigate their tendencies and differences in values of the e-professionalism assessment compatibility index (ePACI). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among MDs and DMDs in Croatia via email using a questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed to all MDs and DMDs who were members of their respective chambers. In addition to descriptive statistics, Chi-square or Fisher's exact test when appropriate, t-test, ANOVA and Mann–Whitney U tests were used to determine differences between groups. A principal component analysis (PCA) with varimax rotation was used to investigate dimensionality. Results of the PCA were compared to the coding based on the Social Media e-Professionalism rubric in order to create the ePACI. Results: Of the 1013 gathered responses, 753 were from valid SNS users and suitable for further analysis. Facebook (91.6%) and Instagram (63.1%) were the predominant SNSs used. Both groups have a good understanding of e-professionalism. The newly developed ePACI deviates slightly in the "conservative" direction in the cases of both, MDs (t506 = 19.033, p < 0.001) and DMDs (t245 = 12.991, p < 0.001). HCPs who are older (r = 0.308, p < 0.001), who have fewer SNS profiles (rs = −0.142, p < 0.001), and who access their profiles less frequently (r = −0.166, p < 0.001) have statistically significantly more conservative ePACI values. Conclusions: MDs and DMDs in Croatia are frequent SNS users, with Facebook and Instagram being the main SNSs used. Both groups have a good understanding of e-professionalism. The newly developed ePACI deviates slightly towards the conservative side regarding perception of the e-professionalism content for both groups. The development of the ePACI, and its subsequent usage in further research, will have a direct influence in its validation, gathering comparable data, and be able to direct efforts in oversight, regulation and education. Introduction: high blood pressure is a health problem in the Mexican population, there are social determinants that condition its development, so it is important that the doctor controls high blood pressure based on an adequate assessment, examination and clinical history; as well as proper use and management of clinical practice guidelines. Objective: to know in greater detail the characteristics of health professionals who could influence the control of hypertension. Material and methods: a descriptive study was carried out, the study population was the doctors of a health center in Mexico City, a 26-item questionnaire with closed and open questions was applied, through an in-depth interview directly. divided into 4 sections: i) identification and demographic factors; ii) academic training; iii) information sources and iv) prescription criteria. Results: with regard to hypertension, the age of the doctors appears to be a determining factor in its control: the degree of control can vary up to almost three times more depending on the age of these doctors, the influence of the number of patients seen would be less. However, deficiencies associated with age, such as lack of updating, could be compensated with specific training interventions by health administrations; alternatively, or complementary, clinical sessions and case discussion among colleagues could play a crucial role in this regard. Medical specialists' lifelong learning is essential for improving patients' health. This study identifies affordances for learning general practitioners (GPs) engage in, and explores what influences engagement in those affordances. Eleven GPs were interviewed and the interview transcripts were analysed thematically. Stephen Billett's theoretical framework of workplace participatory practices was used as an analytical lens to explore the topic. Challenging patient cases were identified as the main trigger for engagement in learning. Local, national and international colleagues from the same and other specialties, were found to be an important affordance for learning, as was written material such as websites, journals and recommendations. Other inputs for learning were conferences and courses. Workplace aspects that were essential for GPs to engage in learning related to: place and time to talk, relevance to work, opportunity for different roles, organisation of work and workload, and working climate. Importantly, the study identifies a need for a holistic approach to lifelong learning, including spontaneous and structured opportunities for interaction over time with colleagues, establishment of incentives and arenas for exchange linked to peer learning, and acknowledgement of the workplace as an important place for learning and sufficient time with patients. This study contributes with a deepened understanding of how GPs navigate existing affordances for learning both within and outside their workplaces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
