The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of employee attributions of leader effectiveness on relationships between perceptions of (a) ethical climate and (b) organizational justice and both positive and negative types of performance. We argue that these relatively under-investigated perceptions are critical antecedents to effective productivity in the workplace. Accordingly, this study is the first to examine the associations of both ethical climate and organizational justice on both positive and negative performance within the context of mediation via employee attributions of leader effectiveness. Based on online survey data from 2486 Romanian employees, our SEM-based findings reveal that the attribution of leader effectiveness functions as a mediator between the associations of ethical climate and justice perceptions on two distinct types of performance: (1) Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) and (2) Counterproductive Work Behaviors (CWB). Additionally, the results revealed that trait negative affect moderates the mediating role of leader effectiveness with OCB but not with CWB. This study contributes to the recent and growing interest in the mediating role of attributions regarding work performance. Several theoretical contributions and practical implications are discussed concerning leader-specific attributions, employee empowerment, and employee performance. Most prominently, we discuss why individuals with strong trait negative affect may engage in CWB without the influence of ethical climate or organizational justice.

Colquitt et al. (Journal of Applied Psychology, 2000, 85, p. 678) integrative theory based on meta-analysis and model testing has served as the foundation for our understanding of training motivation. However, the applicability of the theory today may be limited for several reasons. There has been significant growth in training motivation research since Colquitt et al. (Journal of Applied Psychology, 2000, 85, p. 678) proposed and tested their theory. Also, advances in meta-analysis and model testing allow for a more complete and rigorous test of the theory than was previously possible. As a result, we propose and test a contemporary and comprehensive theory of training motivation based on Colquitt et al. (Journal of Applied Psychology, 2000, 85, p. 678) and other studies conducted over the last 20 years. To do so, we conducted an updated meta-analytic review of 167 independent studies and tested a mediation model of training motivation theory using both conventional meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) and full-information MASEM (FIMASEM). The results support a partially mediated model of training motivation that includes additional antecedents (e.g., openness to experience, extroversion, agreeableness, and goal orientation) and learning outcomes (e.g., turnover intentions and job satisfaction) not included in Colquitt et al. (Journal of Applied Psychology, 2000, 85, p. 678). In addition, we conducted exploratory analyses to understand the relative importance of the antecedents of both motivation to learn and learning outcomes and the moderating role of training and studying characteristics on the relationships between motivation to learn and its antecedents and consequences. In this article we examine ways in which gender performativity may be recognized by young children, looking at a drag queen’s mediation of literary encounters. The theoretical-analytical framework we employ comes from Gender Studies and Cultural Studies of post-structuralist inspiration. Our text recounts experiences from readings, conversation circles and play activities we organized in a small city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Analyzing children’s play and interactions, we observe that from an early age they begin to recognize and question certain expectations about bodies. Contact with art, through literature and other modes of gender performance, can contribute to this reflexive process. RÉSUMÉ Dans cet article, nous étudions comment la performativité de genre est reconnue par les jeunes enfants à travers la médiation de la lecture littéraire par une drag queen, ayant comme base théorique et analytique les études de genre et les études culturelles d'inspiration post-structuraliste. Nous organisons des rencontres avec des lectures de livres, des cercles de conversation et des activités ludiques dans une bibliothèque à l'intérieur du Rio Grande do Sul. En analysant les scènes réalisées par les enfants, nous observons que dès leur plus jeune âge, ils apprennent à (re) connaître et à tendre certaines attentes sur les corps. Le contact avec l'art, à travers la littérature et d'autres modèles performatifs de genre, peut contribuer au processus de réflexion. RESUMO Neste artigo investigamos como a performatividade de gênero é reconhecida por crianças pequenas a partir da mediação de leitura literária por uma drag queen, tendo como base teórico-analítica os Estudos de Gênero e Culturais de inspiração pós-estruturalista. Organizamos encontros com leituras de livros, rodas de conversa e atividades lúdicas, em uma biblioteca no interior do Rio Grande do Sul. Analisando cenas protagonizadas pelas crianças, observamos que desde cedo elas aprendem a (re)conhecer, (re)produzir e a tensionar certas expectativas sobre os corpos. O contato com a arte, por meio da literatura e de outros modelos performativos de gênero, pode contribuir no processo de reflexão.

Although many processes might contribute to the self-perpetuating nature of antagonistic personality, we proposed and tested the "antagonism-confirmation" perspective on this phenomenon. This perspective states that antagonistic personality is based in tendencies to confirm (vs. disconfirm) the self's beliefs about its personality. Importantly, this explanation uniquely predicts that antagonism-related personality constructs should relate to strategically adopting behaviors that vary on only their signification of higher or lower antagonism levels (and nothing more). In apparent privacy, nonclinical participants completed a color-gazing task, wherein antagonistic people ostensibly see colors become more (more-intense condition) or less intense (less-intense condition) while gazing at them. Consistent with the antagonism-confirmation perspective, antagonism-related personality constructs related to perceiving colors as turning more intense in the more-intense (vs. less-intense) condition. These effects could not be attributed to demand and occurred among a subsample of participants that indicated providing completely authentic responses. Furthermore, participants higher in antagonism-related personality constructs reported a greater likelihood of possessing antagonistic characteristics and that these characteristics were more beneficial; mediation evidence suggested that these reports were influenced by their confirmatory responding on the color-gazing task. Antagonism-confirmation tendencies might partly account for why antagonistic personality persists; broadly, the findings highlight the critical nature of identity management as a feature of antagonistic personality. OBJECTIVE Traditional and social media coverage of acute mass violence (AMV; e.g., terrorism, mass shootings) create an environment where the possibility of being the victim of AMV is constantly portrayed and this media exposure has been linked to distress among people not directly affected. We explored how initial emotional reactions to media exposure to AMV, threat perception, and core beliefs may mediate the media exposure to current anxiety or depression symptoms relationship. METHOD Adolescents (N = 342) in the United States aged 13-17 years old (M = 15.43, SD = 1.29; 71.6% female) completed online surveys asking about time spent watching AMV coverage in the media, initial emotional reactions to the media coverage, threat perception, core beliefs, and current anxiety and depression symptoms. Mediation was tested with PROCESS (Hayes, 2018) for anxiety and depression. Sex and having lived in a community exposed to an AMV event were control variables. RESULTS Bootstrap confidence intervals (95%) for the unstandardized indirect effects of core beliefs, initial anxious emotional reactions, and personal threat perception based on 5,000 bootstrap samples did not include zero, providing support for mediation. Core beliefs and initial anxious emotional reactions were mediators between time-consuming AMV-related media and current anxiety symptoms. Personal threat perception and initial anxious emotional reactions mediated the relationship between time-consuming AMV-related media and current depression symptoms. CONCLUSION The impact of media exposure to AMV on depression and anxiety can be understood through its influence on initial anxious reactions, core beliefs, and threat perception. Drawing upon Stress-as-Offense-to-Self theory, we develop a moderated mediation model whereby subordinate poor performance and leader well-being is linked by abusive supervision and this mediated relationship is further moderated by leaders' motives for abuse. Specifically, we posit that higher performance promotion motives will attenuate, whereas higher injury motives will exacerbate the relationship between abusive supervision and leader emotional exhaustion, due to their differential implications for leaders' ability to see themselves in a positive light. In a pilot study, we first examined and found support for the theorized mediation chain in a multiwave field study of organizational leaders (N = 71). In Study 1, we conducted a multiwave and multisource field study of leader-follower dyads (N = 274), which supported our predictions that the indirect effect between subordinate poor performance and leader emotional exhaustion via abusive supervision was strengthened for leaders higher on injury motives. In Study 2, we undertook a 2-week daily diary study with leaders (N = 129) to hone in on the latter half of our model, focusing on within-person dynamics linking abusive supervision and leader well-being and the moderating role of leader motives for abuse. Although the within-person relationship between abusive supervision and emotional exhaustion was positive within a given day across leaders, the lagged within-person relationship between abusive supervision and emotional exhaustion unfolded differently for leaders higher versus lower on injury motives. The article contains an overview of studies on the problem of emotional and cognitive development of preschool children (43 papers, including 6 in Russian and 37 in English) conducted in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Germany, Norway, Russia, etc). Special attention is paid to works that consider the reflexive aspect of childrens experiences characterized by duality, inconsistency and multypositionality, which makes it possible to identify and trace the line of dialectical transformations based on preschool childrens emotional experiences. The following statements are formulated as key conclusions: (1) dialectical thinking can be considered as a cognitive mechanism necessary for the analysis of complex, ambivalent and hidden feelings; (2) the unit of cognitive and affective development is experience, which involves reliance on an internal dialectical structure; (3) a two-position perspective in the game activity is a condition for forming preschool childrens dialectical thinking operations, which in turn can become a cognitive mechanism for regulating affect; (4) the cognitive basis of the emotional anticipation phenomenon includes a mental action of changing the alternative, which is in the zone of proximal development of preschool children and allows adults to use it as a mechanism of emotional co-regulation; and (5) philosophical dialog practices, which imply a discussion of problematic-contradictory content with preschoolers and are aimed at forming in them such actions of dialectical thinking as transformation, mediation and change of alternatives. These provisions represent are an effective tool for developing the ability to distinguish dual complex feelings and analyze their causes and consequences. The results of the work can serve as a basis for creating and implementing conceptually new preschool education programs aimed at both the creative and emotional development of children, where dialectical thinking is considered, inter alia, as an ability necessary for regulating affect and helping children to experience and cope with complex conflicting feelings.

Drawing on conservation of resources theory, we examined the effect of workplace envy on the work behaviors and experiences of employees who are envied by others. From the resource perspective, we proposed that ego depletion would mediate the relationship between being envied and knowledge sharing, and that the envied employees' competitive orientation would moderate this mediation. We empirically tested the model with 280 employee–supervisor dyads in China in a two-wave survey. Results show that being envied was negatively related to employees' knowledge sharing, and that the envied employees' ego depletion significantly mediated this negative relationship. Further, envied employees' competitive orientation moderated the indirect mediating effect, such that the negative influence of ego depletion on knowledge sharing was enhanced for those envied employees whose orientation was highly competitive. Our results show the critical role of resource supply and demand on social influence.

In this study, the relationship between perceived justice, psychological contract violations, and behavior intention was analyzed in the context of Cantonese Yum Cha service. Additionally, the moderating effect of the service failure severity and responsibility attribution was examined. The findings established the critical role of psychological contract violations in mediating the relationship between procedural justice and negative word of mouth, as well as the relationship between distributive justice and negative word of mouth. Simultaneously, the research findings confirm that the service failure severity and the responsibility attribution have a moderating effect on certain paths. When service failures are severe, the detrimental effect of interactional and procedural justice on psychological contract violations becomes more apparent. When consumers are more receptive to external attribution, interactional justice has a greater negative effect on psychological contract violations. This study also discusses the theoretical and managerial implications of the aforementioned research findings.

For many years, people throughout the world have strived to eliminate “weakness” in children so that they can become healthy adults. The label of “adult of the future” often shapes many children's social identity and obscures the importance of their lives as children. Due to these criticisms, new childhood sociology aims at explaining childhood in contexts which emphasize that children should be determinants of their own lives. It is stated that children should be treated as independent and separate from the adult perspective. In this context, the aim of this study was to examine children and childhood in the context of new childhood sociology based on the perceptions of students of child development. As a result, it was observed that the participants' perceptions of children and childhood concentrated around the expressions of being "inadequate, incomplete, pure, adult dependent, and mediation of becoming an adult". Additionally, a discussion was provided regarding the study results and recommendations in the context of new childhood sociology.

This research investigates the importance of trade-off salience in understanding how variations in consumers’ construal levels can influence moral judgments. Across five experiments, trade-offs are implied and explicitly made salient, and construal levels are manipulated by altering temporal distance and perceptual fluency, and by using a well-established cognitive method. Consistent with prior research, we demonstrate that higher construal levels can reduce anticipated unethical behavior, when trade-offs are not salient, by making higher-level moral values more prominent. When trade-offs are salient, however, we reveal that unethical behavior is increased when construal levels are elevated by making desirability-related thoughts relatively more prominent, compared to feasibility-related thoughts. Tests of mediation provide support for the role of desirability- and feasibility-related thoughts. Together, our results provide insight into the opposing predictions made by construal level theory for ethical decision making by revealing how trade-off salience, often inherent in ethical dilemmas, systematically influences the effects of construal level on ethical decision making.

Introduction. The dependence of autonomous motivation of teachers on the principal’s leadership style was previously considered on the basis of the concept of transformational leadership by B. Bass, whereas its relationship with the styles described in the concept of K. Levin is understudied. The mediators of relations between leadership styles and teachers’ motivation are not sufficiently studied. According to the self-determination theory, such mediators can include psychological climate.Aim. The aim of the current research was to develop an integrative concept of leadership styles by K. Lewin and the theory of self-determination by E. Deci and R. Ryan model of dependence of teachers’ professional motivation and work engagement on the principal’s leadership styles. An additional task was to analyse the mediating role of the psychological climate of the school staff.Methodology and research methods. The correlational research was realised with the sample comprising 238 secondary school teachers in Biysk. The participants answered the Professional Motivation Questionnaire, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, Style of Leadership Questionnaire and Group Atmosphere Scale. During processing of obtained data the authors used correlation analysis, t-tests for comparison of means and structural equation modelling.Results. The elaborated structural model demonstrates that the democratic leadership style of the school principal is positively related to the autonomous motivation of teachers directly and indirectly through the psychological climate. The principal’s liberal leadership style is inversely related to teachers’ work engagement. In terms of self-determination theory, these results reflect different opportunities to meet the basic psychological needs of employees in teams with different psychological climate and principal’s leadership style.Scientific novelty includes elaborated model describing the relationship of principals’ leadership styles according to K. Lewin’s typology with autonomous motivation and work engagement of teachers. The revealed effect of partial mediation of relations between democratic leadership style and autonomous motivation of teachers through psychological climate clarifies the ideas about the system of socio-psychological factors of professional motivation.Practical significance consists in usage of the results for improvement of psychological training of principals, optimisation of their leadership style for creating better psychological atmosphere and support for teachers’ productive motivation.

Background. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is paramount to investigate how to influence professional sport team consumers’ behaviours towards media consumption, which is an indirect consumption of sports products with importance raised by the lockdown. The effect of brand superiority, one of the essential consumer judgments about the brands, on some behavioural intentions of sport team consumers was examined before; however, the role of brand superiority and overall brand equity on media consumption behaviours in pandemic conditions lacked empirical investigation. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between brand superiority, overall brand equity and media consumption behaviours among professional sports teams’ consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods. The participants of this quantitative study were 232 volunteer football (soccer) consumers who support a team in the Turkish Super Football League. The data was collected in 3 weeks using the online convenience sampling method. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM) were used in data analyses, and direct and indirect paths tested by the bootstrapping method. Results. The results of the study showed that brand superiority did not have a direct effect on media consumption behaviours of sport team consumers. Besides, overall brand equity had a direct effect on media consumption behaviours and mediated the relationship between brand superiority and media consumption behaviours. Conclusions. The evidence in this study indicates sport managers that the cognitive judgement of sport consumers, generally related to the more functional aspect of a sports product alone not an efficient way to directly influence sport team consumers toward media consumption behaviours even in COVID-19 pandemic. Brand equity, however, found to be an effective tool to address for directing sport team consumers’ behaviours toward media consumption in the extraordinary circumstance currently exist. The existence of social media has currently become a communication phenomenon, specifically occurring to millennials which is argued to allow Alone-Together to develop. Alone-Together is a phenomenon where a social media user loses focus of his or her surroundings thus concurrently distracting his or her face-to-face communication. This quantitative research was conducted in Indonesia through observation to millennials who were social media users of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with age distribution ranging from 23 – 38 years old. S-O-R method was employed to reveal the correlation between social media and face-to-face communication mediated by Alone-Together. The result revealed that there was a correlation between social media usage with Alone-Together behavior and the influence of Alone-Together attitude toward face-to-face communication. However, no correlation was found between social media and face-to-face communication therefore it is concluded that this research is fully mediated. In addition to that, this research is expected to provide more contribution to further studies related to supporting variables in the current existence of social media, promoting the benefits of using social media, identifying limits which need further control in using social media and mitigating the impacts inflicted to their users.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to shed light on the relationship between organizational commitment (OC) and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) as mediated by employee engagement (EE). The impact of different facets of OC (affective, continuance and normative) and EE (alignment, affectiveness and action-orientation) is examined with respect to OCB.Design/methodology/approachInsights from the literature underpin the hypotheses on how EE mediates the relationship between OC and OCB. Primary data using survey questionnaire were collected from 881 permanent employees of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in India. Hayes' model 4 has been used for the mediation analysis.FindingsThe analyses show that only one facet of OC- affective commitment and the alignment and action-orientation dimensions of EE positively affect OCB. The relationship between OC and OCB is fully mediated by EE.Practical implicationsThe results imply that engaging employees is pivotal for effectively fostering citizenship behavior among employees. Organizations should be willing to implement strategies and interventions which enhance the emotional experience of employees to foster a sense of belongingness with the organization and engage them.Originality/valueThe paper draws on a unique data set of a prestigious organization in India to provide insights with substantial degree of generalizability into the relationship between OC, OCB and EE, whilst applying a comprehensive definition of these constructs. It is the first study to examine the inter-relationship among different facets of these constructs.

Sebagai pelajar, sangat penting untuk mempelajari fonologi dan fonetik dari berbagai bahasa untuk membandingkan dan menyamakan satu dengan yang lainnya. Bahasa Inggris dan Arab sama-sama memiliki struktur linguistik terbesar dari semua bahasa di dunia. Kedua bahasa tersebut memiliki kesamaan ciri, seperti konsonannya. Dari persamaan tersebut, Lestiono dan Gusdian (2017) melakukan penelitian terhadap konsonan bahasa Arab dalam membantu pengucapan bahasa Inggris, yang dikenal sebagai tabel kosonan bahasa Inggris-Hijaiyah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengucapan dari delapan anggota paduan suara universitas dalam menyanyikan lagu-lagu bahasa Inggris sebelum dan sesudah pengenalan konsonan Hijaiyah sebagai mediasi. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan studi kasus, yang termasuk dalam desain kualitatif yang digunakan dalam mencapai pengucapan yang dibangun oleh subjek penelitian melalui observasi, analisis, dan deskripsi. Objek penelitian ini adalah bunyi konsonan yang dihasilkan oleh peserta penelitian saat menyanyikan lagu “When I Sing” oleh Russel Robinson dan Charolette Lee dan “The Seal Lullaby” oleh Eric Whitacre dan Rudyard Kipling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah dokumen analisis. Dalam analisis ditemukan adanya partisipan yang salah dalam mengucapkan kosa kata yang ditargetkan sebelum diperkenalkan dengan konsonan Hijaiyah. Setelah pengenalan konsonan Hijaiyah sebagian besar peserta terdengar akurat. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa konsonan Hijaiyah dapat memfasilitasi anggota paduan suara mahasiswa untuk belajar dan menghasilkan kata-kata bahasa Inggris yang akurat saat bernyanyi. Language in the universe is various; however, it does not close the possibility that each languages have an equation. As a learner, it is crucial to learn the phonology and phonetics of some languages to compare and equalize one another. English and Arabic both have the biggest linguistic construction. Both languages have the sameness of characteristics such as some of their consonants. From those similarities, Lestiono and Gusdian (2017) conducted a study on Arabic Consonant sounds to arrive at English Pronunciation, known as English-Hijaiyah consonant corresponding chart. The objective of the current research is to discover the pronunciation of eight university choir members in singing English songs before and after the introduction of Hijaiyah consonants as the mediation. In this present study acquire a case study, which is included to qualitative design that was used in arriving at the pronunciation constructed by the research subjects through observation, analyzation, and description.. The research objects were the consonant sounds produced by research participants while singing “When I sing” by Russel Robinson and Charolette Lee and 'The Seal Lullaby” by Eric Whitacre and Rudyard Kipling. The instrument was document analysis. In the findings, participants mispronounced many of the targetted words before they were introduced to Hijaiyah consonants as the mediation . Whereas, the pronunciation after the introduction showed that most of the participants sounded correct. This can be concluded that Hijaiyah consonants can facilitate the university student choir members to learn and produce accurate English words while singing.

Pada studi sebelumnya mekanisme calling sebagai adaptation result mampu dijelaskan menggunakan career construction theory (CCT) melalui adaptive readiness dan adapting response yang dimiliki dan dilakukan karyawan, namun perspektif tersebut diketahui belum memperhitungkan faktor eksternal yang mungkin dapat mempengaruhi adapting response sehingga dapat berdampak pada pembentukan calling mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi kesenjangan tersebut dengan menggunakan tidak hanya perspektif CCT, melainkan perspektif social exchange theory (SET) untuk melihat hubungan proactive personality dengan calling individu melalui peranan dua mediator yaitu job crafting dan LMX. Data penelitian dikumpulkan menggunakan survei daring dengan melibatkan karyawan aktif (N=222) yang telah bekerja minimal satu tahun di berbagai industri perbankan. Data kemudian dianalisis menggunakan analisis model mediasi paralel dari Hayes (2017) dengan SPSS for Windows. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa proactive personality secara positif berkontribusi pada calling baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung melalui kedua mediator (i.e job crafting dan LMX). Model mediasi jalur ganda ini memberikan perspektif baru dalam memahami bahwa job crafting dan LMX masing-masing memiliki peran tersendiri dalam menjelaskan mekanisme hubungan proactive personality dengan calling karyawan dalam pekerjaannya. Maka dari itu temuan ini dapat melengkapi literatur yang ada tentang implikasi teoritis dan praktis dari calling.

PurposeIn this study, we empirically analyse the effects of sports celebrities' image on consumers' engagement with them via social media and with their endorsed brand. In particular, we focus on the sport celebrity's athletic performance and marketable lifestyle image dimensions.Design/methodology/approachAn online consumer survey was conducted regarding sports celebrities' endorsement campaigns and consumers' ad recall. The data were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Moderation and mediation effects were examined, and a multigroup analysis was used to test the existence of significant differences between groups.FindingsThe motivation to engage with sports celebrities' social media platforms transcends athletic performance and is positively related with the marketable lifestyle. Sports celebrities who highly engage consumers through social media can promote stronger engagement with the endorsed brand, and this effect is positively moderated by the perceived level of congruence between the sport celebrity and the endorsed brand. The effect of the sport celebrity's marketable lifestyle on the endorsed brand is partially mediated by their social media engagement with consumers. Moreover, a multigroup analysis shows no statistically significant differences among gender and age groups.Originality/valueThis study's contribution is a better understanding of the effect of sport celebrities' image dimensions on consumers' engagement with the celebrities' social media platforms. The marketable lifestyles of celebrities are an important asset that promotes engagement with their social media platforms by consumers that in turn, raises their marketing value in terms of endorsement contracts.

International audience; Motivation crowding theory examines how external intervention may undermine intrinsic motivation. Earlier research has shown that intrinsic motivation plays a decisive role in fostering environmental performance of households and consumers, but that external pressures may “crowd out” the intrinsic motivations. Similar patterns could be expected in business organizations. However, only a few studies consider crowding effects of financial incentives on businesses’ intrinsic motivation to environmental responsibility, whereas none addresses the impact of external pressures from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and media, despite their prominent role. This study aims to address this gap by offering a mediation framework explaining how pressures from NGOs and media affect intrinsic motivation. Empirically, the paper adds to the scant empirical research by estimating a model on a sample of 4,364 enterprises from twelve European countries. We find that NGOs and media pressures increase financial benefits from environmental responsibility, which in turn crowd in intrinsic motivation in enterprises.

Psychological wellbeing is an important factor for university students in order to achieve their goals and reach their potentials while they are in a significant transition period. Being mindful and being solution-focused increases university students’ psychological wellbeing. This study aims to examine the mediating role of solution-focused thinking in the relationship between mindfulness and psychological wellbeing of university students. Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, The Flourishing Scale, Solution-focused Inventory, and a demographic information questionnaire were used to collect data from 543 (356 female, 184 male, and 3 unanswered) undergraduate students at a state university in Turkey. The results showed that mindfulness (present moment attention and awareness) predicted psychological wellbeing, goal orientation and resource activation dimensions of solution-focused thinking positively and problem disengagement dimension of solution-focused thinking negatively. Similarly, psychological wellbeing was predicted by goal orientation and resource activation positively and problem disengagement negatively. The mediation analyses revealed that mindfulness affected psychological wellbeing indirectly through solution-focused thinking. This study starts a discussion about negative predictive roles of problem disengagement on psychological wellbeing. Thus, different predictive effects and mediating roles of solution-focused thinking’s sub-dimensions were discussed.

PurposeThis study examines the direct and indirect effect mechanisms of how using smartphones for social media is associated with college students' civic engagement via levels of communication network heterogeneity and social capital. In addition, this study tests whether such indirect effects mechanisms are moderated by the need to belong.Design/methodology/approachThe study analyzes data from an online survey (N = 580) conducted at a public university. The PROCESS macro is used to examine the mediation association between mobile social media use, communication network heterogeneity, social capital, and civic engagement and the moderated mediation conditional upon need to belong.FindingsCollege students who often use smartphones for social media were more likely to communicate with people who have different socio-demographic characteristics and different opinions. There was also a positive mediation mechanism between smartphone use for social media, network heterogeneity, social capital and civic engagement, which means that college students who often use mobile social media are more likely to communicate with heterogeneous others and develop a sense of social capital, which in turn led to greater levels of civic engagement. Importantly, these indirect effects of smartphone use for social media on civic engagement were stronger for those with greater levels of need to belong.Originality/valueThe findings of the current study are significant given that little is known about how young adults' mobile social media use is associated with communication network heterogeneity and civic engagement in their everyday life. The research expands the research agenda by investigating the most popular interactive communication media platforms.

Introduction Visual attention is a crucial mechanism in health messaging and campaign persuasiveness. Little is known about how visual attention may translate into cessation-related outcomes in tobacco public education campaigns. Methods Using the eye-tracking technology, this study investigated the relationships among visual attention, cognitive and affective message responses, and cessation-related outcomes (readiness to quit, intentions to quit, and intentions to seek cessation information). Four different posters from the Every Try Counts (ETC) campaign were used as message stimuli. A total of 80 adult current smokers participated. The associations between their behavioral eye gaze patterns and self-reported message responses and cessation-related outcomes were examined. Results Half of the sample (49.4%) were male, and 46.8% were White—with ages ranging from 18 to 36 years old (M = 21.22, SD = 2.86). Roughly 41% were daily smokers, and 78% had attempted quitting in the previous year. When exposed to campaign ads, only fixation on the FDA logo showed consistent positive relationships with cognitive and affective message responses. Mediation analyses revealed significant indirect effects of fixation on the FDA logo on quitting and information-seeking intentions mainly through positive affective message responses. Conclusions Visual attention to the FDA logo played an important role in the effects of ETC campaign messages. Implications This study contributes new evidence on the relationship of visual attention, message responses, and ETC campaign outcomes. The current findings suggest that highlighting FDA as a campaign sponsor in the visual display may enhance the effectiveness of FDA tobacco education messages.

The purpose of this research was to explore how moral belief of life, at a trait and state level, triggers more altruistic empathy towards others in risk, thereby enhancing greater prosocial behavior, especially in emergencies. Three hundred and twenty-eight undergraduates were asked to complete moral belief of life scale, Interpersonal Reactivity Index, Prosocial Tendencies Measure and Social Desirability Scale. We first found empathy, rather than personal distress, mediated the effect of moral belief of life disposition on prosocial behavior (Study 1). Then, sixty undergraduates were recruited to voluntarily participate the follow-up experiment, moral belief of life elicited by narrative recalling increased empathy toward victims in life emergencies, rather than personal distress, and thus enhanced emergency helping. Moreover, the mediation mechanism of empathy was not moderated by victim attributions (Study 2). These findings verify the self-transcendent attribute of moral belief of life and shed light on how moral belief of life influences emergency helping. Practically, they provide a new perspective for emergency interventions, it is necessary to popularize life morality education to promote moral belief of life and carry out empathy intervention among individuals with weak moral belief of life.

This paper provides an investigation into how social media can be used to promote disruptive innovation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from a capability perspective. Based on the strategic capability literature, this study examines the influence of social media strategic capability (SMSC) on disruptive innovation, the mediation role of organizational unlearning, and the moderating effects of top management team (TMT) heterogeneity and environmental dynamism. The empirical results from a sample of 198 Chinese manufacturing firms, each with paired respondents, show a significant association between SMSC and disruptive innovation, which is mediated by organizational unlearning. Furthermore, the effect of SMSC on unlearning is enhanced when SMEs have heterogeneous TMTs, and the influence of unlearning on disruptive innovation is strengthened in dynamic market and regulatory environments but weakened in dynamic technological environments. These findings contribute new knowledge to the literature on both social media and disruptive innovation.

Purpose Drawing upon the stimulus–organism–response (S-O-R) model, the purpose of this study is to examine how perceptions of young customers towards the green image of trendy coffee cafés affect their environmental and product attitudes, and subsequently their citizenship behaviour as well as intention to re-patronage. The mediating effect of customer citizenship behaviour (CCB) is also assessed. Design/methodology/approach The instrument was developed by adapting measurement from the past studies. Using the purposive sampling technique, data were collected online from 207 young customers in Malaysia who frequented the cafés. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to perform path modelling and mediation analyses. Findings The findings show that green image stimulates both customers’ environmental attitude and product attitude. Although product attitude is found to have a dominant effect on CCB, the impact of environmental attitude on CCB and re-patronage intention is worth noting. Moreover, advocacy and tolerance significantly mediate the relationship between product attitude and re-patronage intention. Originality/value This study advances the consumer behaviour literature by determining the influence of green image on two forms of attitudes as well as the mediating role of the multi-dimensional CCB between attitudes and intention to re-patronage trendy coffee cafés among young customers. While the findings confirm the importance of product attitude and the relevance of advocacy and tolerance in relation to re-patronage, the study also highlights the growing awareness of green image among young customers and its implications on knowledge and practice.

By applying coping theory, this study develops and tests a process model investigating the sequential mediating roles of perceived COVID‐19 threat and psychological distress on the relationships between social media misinformation and turnover intentions, and in‐role performance. Hypothesized model for Study 1 was fully supported, showing that the association between social media misinformation and turnover intentions are each mediated sequentially, first by perceived COVID‐19 threat and then by psychological distress. Additional support was found for the sequential mediation model when predicting turnover intentions and in‐role performance in Study 2, using time‐lagged data. Besides, this study found that resilience moderated social media misinformation's sequential indirect effect on turnover intentions and in‐role performance. Implications and future research directions have been discussed.

Academic adaptation is an important aspect of children’s development, and it has been found to be closely associated with parent and peer related factors. In the current information era, the internet is also influencing children’s academic adaptation. Against this backdrop, we developed and tested a model in which active parental internet mediation (parents’ guidance and advice on children’s online behavior) was associated with children’s academic adaptation, further investigating the potential mediating role of video gaming and the moderating role of deviant peer affiliation. 683 Chinese elementary school students in Grades 4–6 were recruited to participate in this study. The children completed questionnaires at school during regular class time. The results indicated that: (a) after controlling for gender and age, active parental mediation was positively associated with academic adaptation; (b) video gaming was an mediating factor in the association between active parental mediation and academic adaptation; (c) the indirect effect of active parental mediation on academic adaptation through video gaming was moderated by deviant peer affiliation; specifically, for children with low deviant peer affiliation, the association between video gaming and academic adaptation was significant but insignificant for children with high deviant peer affiliation. Though, the relative small effect size of video gaming should be examined in the future studies to further clarify the associations and underlying mechanism between the main variables, the results have applied value for guiding children to use the internet responsibly and improving their academic adaptation.

An online 2 (evidence type: narrative vs. informational) × 2 (message frame: gain vs. loss) × 2 (involvement: low vs. high) between-subjects factorial experiment was conducted to examine their effects in skin cancer awareness campaigns. Results showed that loss-framed narratives were convincing for high-involved individuals, whereas both gain-framed informational and loss-framed narratives evoked higher issue attitudes and behavioral intentions for low-involved ones. Mediation analyses showed that identification with the story protagonist mediated narrative effects on the outcome variables. Theoretical and practical implications for sun protection awareness campaigns are discussed.

PurposeThe study aims to model the factors influencing online learning adoption by Indian students as well as examine the mediating effect of attitude on the proposed relationships.Design/methodology/approachA survey was conducted online using a well-structured questionnaire. The target respondents of the study were students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in India. Structural equation modeling was employed on a final sample of 402 respondents to test the proposed hypotheses.FindingsThe results reveal that there is a significant impact of the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, peer influence and self-esteem on attitude toward online learning. Further, attitude significantly mediates the impact of these factors on intention to adopt online learning.Originality/valueThe study is one of the initial attempts in the backdrop of the pandemic to examine the mediating role of attitude in affecting intention to adopt online learning by university students in India.

PurposeAlthough past research has looked into myriad consequences of workplace incivility, little attention has been paid to the effects of supervisor incivility (SI) on employees’ sense of vitality and their discretionary work effort (DWE). Moreover, the mechanisms that drive the harmful effects of SI remain largely unknown. The current study seeks to address these gaps in the literature. In particular, this study aims to examine how SI culminates in decreased DWE.Design/methodology/approachAdopting a cross-sectional survey design, data for this study were gathered from 151 employees of two large companies in the financial services sector of Pakistan. A number of analysis techniques (e.g. confirmatory factor analysis and bootstrapping) were used to analyze the data.FindingsAs predicted, SI was found to be negatively associated both with subordinates’ sense of vitality and DWE while vitality was found to be positively associated with DWE. Findings also indicated that one way in which SI negatively affects subordinates’ DWE is by decreasing their sense of vitality.Practical implicationsThis study offers several useful implications for management practice in relation to preventing SI and mitigating its effects and bolstering employees’ sense of vitality.Originality/valueTo the best of the knowledge, this study is the first to unpack the relationship dynamics of SI, vitality and DWE, and to introduce a mechanism by which SI translates into reduced DWE.

Although the beneficial aspects of web platforms such as Facebook are recognized, excessive social media use can lead to problematic or addictive behavior among a minority of users. Because anxious attachment has usually been analyzed in the relation to Internet addiction, social media addiction, and Facebook intensity use, the main aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between anxious attachment and Facebook addiction. A multiple-mediation model was proposed including a four-path mediating effect via need to belong (NTB), self-esteem, and Facebook use to meet romantic partners. Data were collected from a sample of 530 university students (39.6% males, Mage = 21.3 years, SD = 2.1). Path analysis was performed based on the maximum likelihood estimation with resampling method. The direct and indirect effects in the four-path mediation model were tested by user-defined estimands and bias-corrected bootstrap method. The findings provided evidence for the association between anxious attachment, Facebook addiction, low self-esteem, high NTB, and Facebook use to meet romantic partners. Path analysis showed excellent fit between theoretical model and sample data. Anxious attachment had an indirect effect on Facebook addiction via high NTB, low self-esteem, and Facebook use to meet romantic partners. The novel findings deepen the understanding the mediating mechanisms of the relationship between anxious attachment and Facebook addiction and will help contribute to the development of effective prevention and treatment to enable more responsible and healthy Facebook use.

This study aimed to examine the multiple mediating roles of social support and self-control in the relationship between harmonious personality and work-family conflict. A total of 143 Chinese adults (137 male, 95.8%; aged 30.25 ± 7.85 years) participated in this longitudinal study. Data were collected at three time points, at intervals of 1 month. Self-report questionnaires measuring social demographics and harmonious personality (Time 1), self-control and social support (Time 2), and work-family conflict (Time 3) were administered. Self-control and work-family conflict were negatively correlated. The relationship between harmony and work-family conflict was mediated by self-control and social support. Possible paths were self-control and multiple mediation by social support and self-control. Our results confirmed the multiple mediating roles of social support and self-control in the relationship between harmonious personality and work-family conflict. To achieve a better work-family balance, it is important not only to establish a harmonious interpersonal perspective and to enhance the social support from employers, colleagues, and family but also to ensure adequate self-control resources.

PurposeThe relationship between leadership style and employee outcomes is well established. However, organizational management research lacks an understanding of the dyadic relationship between supervisors and employees and volunteers at music festivals. This study examines a mediation model in which leader–member exchange (LMX) affects leadership style and organizational citizenship behavior. Additionally, the study examines a moderating model in which dependence on the leader moderates relationships between leadership style and leader–member exchange.Design/methodology/approachConfirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling and conditional process analysis were employed to test the model using data collected from 97 supervisors, volunteers and employees who worked at an annual large-scale music festival staged in Costa Rica.FindingsResults reveal that leadership style relates positively to LMX and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Simultaneously, the mediating effect of LMX and moderating effect of dependence on the leader was not significant on the leadership style and OCB.Research limitations/implicationsGiven the small sample size and accessibility to one music festival, caution should be taken in drawing causal conclusions from the results.Practical implicationsThe study contributes to the knowledge of event and festival management with recommendations for leadership training initiatives for supervisors and employees/volunteers.Originality/valueThis study is among the first to examine the mediating role of LMX between leadership style and OCB, moderating the role of dependence on leadership style and LMX with music festival supervisors and employees/volunteers.

Guided by the Appraisal Tendency Framework (ATF) and the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), this study investigated the relationships between exposure to COVID-19 information conveyed through mainstream media and social media, negative emotions, risk perception, and intentions to wear face masks. An online survey was conducted with 590 Americans during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2020). Results indicated that while mainstream media were associated with fear, anxiety, and anger, social media were not. In turn, fear and anxiety were positively associated with risk perception, which increased intentions to wear face masks. Anger was negatively associated with risk perception, which reduced intentions to wear face masks. Mediation analyses revealed that these negative emotions and risk perception mediated the association between mainstream media exposure and intentions to wear face masks. Results provided support for the utility of integrating of the ATF and PMT to predict mask wearing behavior in the early stages of the COVID-19 outbreak. Theoretical and practical implications were discussed. In purview of Akers’ (1998) social structure and social learning (SSSL) theory of crime and deviance, this study explicates the varied processes by which unstructured socializing with peers influences deviance through variables of social learning theory as well as self-control. To examine the proposed processes, data were obtained from 1,354 adjudicated adolescents between the ages of 14 and 18 from the juvenile and adult court systems in Maricopa County, Arizona and Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Through use of structural equation modeling, partial support was found for the relationship between unstructured socializing with peers and deviance being partially mediated by differential association, definitions, personal rewards of crime, as well as self-control. By better understanding the multifaceted ways adolescents who spend time in settings of unstructured socializing with friends engage in delinquency, society can better understand the leading factors among youth that occur through socialization resulting in delinquency.

The school lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic pushed teachers to online teaching literally overnight, which put their performance at risk. Transformational school leadership (TSL), teacher self-efficacy (TSE) and digital competencies might have played a protective role in such burdening conditions. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the mediating role of TSE in explaining the relationship between TSL and instructional quality. Additionally, the moderating role of digital competencies in explaining the interrelations between TSL and TSE as well as between TSE and instructional quality, or the proposed mediating mechanism, was tested. The study was conducted via online survey in Spring 2020 and involved 1655 Croatian teachers. The mediation and moderated mediation analyses revealed that TSL was positively related to instructional quality both directly and indirectly via TSE. Teacher digital competencies did not moderate the proposed relationships or the mediating mechanism.

PurposeThis study explores how paternalistic leadership (PL) influences Chinese expatriates' work engagement in a cross-cultural context, and examines how expatriates' cross-cultural adaptability sets a boundary condition for this relationship.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from two-wave surveys of 82 supervisors and 318 Chinese expatriate teachers from 57 Confucius Institutes in 18 countries. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized relationships.FindingsBenevolent and moral leadership as job resources are negatively related to work–family conflict (WFC), whereas the job demand of authoritarian leadership positively relates to WFC. Further, WFC mediates the effect of PL styles on Chinese expatriates' work engagement. Cross-cultural adaptability moderates the negative relationship between WFC and work engagement, and the indirect effect of PL styles on work engagement through WFC.Practical implicationsOrganizations should consider WFC an important intervening mechanism linking PL and Chinese expatriates' work engagement. Cross-cultural organizations can mitigate the negative impact of WFC on work engagement by enhancing expatriates' cross-cultural adaptability.Originality/valueThis study is the first to examine the PL–work engagement relationship via a work–family interface, which contributes to integrating leadership and work–family outcomes. It enriches research on the JD-R model by showing that job resources and job demands affect employee outcomes through the mediation of stressors. Furthermore, this study identifies a new personal resource by examining cross-cultural adaptability's moderating role.

PurposeBased on previous research on millennial employee management in China, this study aims to extend the understanding of the underlining mechanisms and boundary conditions between job characteristics and millennial employee creative performance. Drawing on the self-determination theory and the theory of situation interaction, this study proposes hedonic and eudaimonic well-being as dual mediators, to explain the positive effect of job characteristics on millennial employees’ creative performance. Further, the study proposes that inclusive leadership and achieving styles could separately moderate these two mediation paths.Design/methodology/approachThe data comprises information on 288 millennial employees in China.FindingsThe results show that both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being mediate the positive effect of job characteristics on millennial employees’ creative performance. The positive effect of job characteristics on millennial employees’ hedonic well-being is stronger when inclusive leadership is stronger; and the positive effect of millennial employees’ hedonic well-being on creative performance is stronger when direct achieving style and instrumental achieving style are stronger. There was no significant moderating effect of inclusive leadership on the relationship between job characteristics and millennial employees’ eudaimonic well-being, and no significant moderating effect of achieving style on the relationship between millennial employees’ eudaimonic well-being and creative performance. Job characteristics exerted a positive indirect effect on employees’ creative performance through employees’ hedonic well-being and that this cascading effect was moderated by inclusive leadership, direct achieving style and instrumental achieving style.Practical implicationsThe findings have important implications for both job design practices and employee performance research. Organizations should pay more attention to improving the creative performance of millennials employees through innovative job design or other organizational level motivational drivers. At the same time, the findings in this study align with the findings in Sheldonet al.(2018) study where extrinsic values rather than toward intrinsic values will bring improved hedonic well-being to the individual in the short term. One further practical implication is that if organizations need a short-term boost of creative performance from their millennial employees, organizations can provide more extrinsic motivators. When organizations want to see more long-term creative performance results, intrinsic motivators should be established.Originality/valueAs part of a series of research on Chinese millennial employee management, this paper extends existing research results. First, the authors verify the main effect relationship between job characteristics and employee creative performance. Second, based on the self-determination theory, this study constructs a dual mediation model and tests the mediating effect of hedonic and eudaimonic well-being between job characteristics and employee creative performance. Third, considering the situational characteristics of the study, the authors propose the boundary conditions of the relationship between job characteristics and creative performance from two levels of individual characteristics and leadership types, namely, inclusive leadership and achieving style.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose and empirically test a model that examines psychological ownership as an intervening variable between organizational justice and organizational citizenship behaviour drawing on the social exchange theory, equity theory and event mediated model.Design/methodology/approachThe study was based on a cross-sectional research design, with a sample of 301 full-time employees from various information technology organizations in India. Amos software was used to test the validity of the hypothesised model, and PROCESS macro was used to test the mediation of psychological ownership.FindingsThe findings showed that organizational justice impacted both psychological ownership and organizational citizenship behaviour. Furthermore, psychological ownership impacted the organizational citizenship behaviour of employees. The key finding of this study is the partial mediation of psychological ownership in the relationship between organizational justice and organizational citizenship behaviour.Practical implicationsBesides enriching the organizational behaviour literature, the findings of the study offer valuable messages to the organizational leaders in creating sustained competitive advantage through employee behaviours like organizational citizenship behaviour and psychological ownership.Originality/valueEven though the literature reports the impact of organizational justice on organizational citizenship behaviour, the majority of this research is based on a western context. There is little research work done to examine the direct relationship between these variables in a non-western context, especially in an emerging economy like India. This study bridges this research gap and enriches the literature by elucidating how organizational justice impacts organizational citizenship behaviour by evincing the mediating mechanism of psychological ownership. Moreover, this is one of the primary studies that explore the mediating role of psychological ownership in the relationship between organizational justice and organizational citizenship behaviour.

Purpose This study aims to investigate the shopping behaviour of consumers, mainly in fashion apparels, and intends to understand consumer buying patterns in Indian context. The study was designed to determine the level of consumer's sense of belonging towards apparel shopping by applying the concept of self-congruence. Design/methodology/approach The study used variance-based partial least squares structural equational modelling (PLS-SEM) on a cross-sectional study conducted on 569 consumers. The study was conducted by using questionnaire to collect the responses from the central zone of India. The results support most of the projected hypotheses. Findings The study focused on the shopping behaviour of consumer such as self-congruence, impulse buying, hedonic values and consumer satisfaction. The results of the study highlight the association of constructs and analysed the mediation relation of hedonic and impulse buying constructs. The results revealed a positive association among the constructs and also found a partial mediation effect in their relation with constructs. Research limitations/implications The findings are outcomes of an empirical study conducted in the fashion apparel industry of India based on the sample set of urban consumers. The study is restricted to the direct and indirect relationship of constructs. Further, research can examine by using moderating constructs like demographic factors (gender, age, income, etc.) and other shopping behaviours (like brand loyalty, brand love, brand attachment) for more clarity in results. Moreover, the study limited is with fashion apparel, whereas there are many categories in the fashion industry like accessories, perfumes, cosmetic products, footwear and also other products industry. Practical implications The study provided valuable inputs to the literature of marketing where self-congruence affects consumer shopping behaviour such as impulse buying, hedonic values and consumer satisfaction. The study proposes a practical approach that can help the marketing professionals and product developers to have a deep understanding about consumer shopping behaviour for facilitating consumer-oriented goods in the Indian fashion industry. Originality/value This is one of the first studies in the fashion industry to test the association of self-congruence with hedonic value and consumer satisfaction. This relation is not tested in context of fashion apparel. Additionally, this study also examined the mediating effect of hedonic value and impulse buying in relation with self-congruence and consumer satisfaction in the Indian context.

This article aimed to investigate the dark side of leadership behavior on counterproductive work behavior with the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and moderating effect of organizational cynicism. This study applied a PLS-SEM partial least square structural equation modeling technique to test the hypotheses on a sample of 345 police personnel of Pakistan. The results of this study indicate a positive and strong association between the despotic leadership and counterproductive work behavior. The findings show a positive and significant influence of despotic leadership on emotional exhaustion. Moreover, the results show an important and significant influence of the despotic leadership and counterproductive work behavior when the mediation role of emotional exhaustion is included. Furthermore, this study found an insignificant moderating influence of organizational cynicism in the relationship between despotic leadership and emotional exhaustion. Implications and limitations are also discussed in this article.

AIM The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between nurses' harmonious work passion and work-related internet information seeking. In doing so, we examine intrinsic motivation as an underlying mechanism of this relationship. BACKGROUND Nurses seek and utilize information to respond effectively to their tasks and to develop their skills and competencies. Internet consists one of the easiest and richest sources of information. Both nurses and organizations need to identify potential antecedents of work-related internet information seeking. METHODS Data were collected from 239 nurses and nurse assistants in a Greek University hospital and were analysed using bootstrap analysis with PROCESS macro. RESULTS Harmonious work passion was positively related to intrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation related positively to work-related internet information seeking. The mediating role of intrinsic motivation was also supported. CONCLUSIONS Nurses with harmonious work passion seek more regularly work-related information on the internet because they experience high levels of intrinsic motivation. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Health care organizations and managers need to recruit passionate nurses and cultivate a workplace culture that will trigger higher levels of harmonious work passion. Recruitment tools and methods such as interviews, situational judgement tests or role playing could be very beneficial towards uncovering potential candidates with an elevated passion for their work.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of buyer-seller interpersonal interactions on the purchase intention of buyers, incorporating swift guanxi as a mediator.Design/methodology/approachBased on survey data obtained from 336 Taobao Live users, PLS techniques were used to test hypotheses.FindingsSwift guanxi exists in buyer-seller interactions and matters, as it drives buyers' purchase intention in live stream shopping. Perceived expertise, perceived similarity and perceived likeability are found to be the three essential interpersonal interaction factors promoting the formation of swift guanxi. Perceived familiarity is also found to be significant but to a lesser extent. In addition, all these interpersonal interaction factors are found to significantly affect purchase intention through the mediation of swift guanxi.Originality/valueSwift guanxi has been less explored in live stream shopping. This study takes the lead in empirically examining the mediating role of swift guanxi in the relationship between interpersonal interaction factors and purchase intention and offers a description of key buyer-seller interpersonal interaction factors (perceived expertise, perceived similarity and perceived likeability), thereby helping to extend the swift guanxi literature in social commerce.

PurposeThis study identifies the impact of supermarket environmental corporate social responsibility (ECSR) on consumers’ loyalty towards their supermarket. Based on the stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R), this study demonstrates how positive and negative emotions mediate the relationships between consumers’ perceptions of ECSR and consumers’ attitudes towards their supermarket. This study draws from cultural theory and works on sustainability and examines the moderating effect of the cultural context on these relationships.Design/methodology/approachA supermarket intercept survey was conducted among 327 consumers in France and 444 consumers in Morocco. The proposed model was analysed using Amos 22.FindingsECSR’s impact on consumer loyalty varies across cultural contexts through the mediation of positive and negative emotions. The study also indicates how consumers’ levels of environmentalism moderate the direct effect of supermarket ECSR on consumers’ attitudes towards the supermarket.Research limitations/implicationsBased on the S-O-R and cultural theories, this study demonstrates how the dimensions of the cultural context moderate the direct and indirect effects of ECSR on consumers’ loyalty towards their supermarket. Specifically, favourable perceptions of supermarket ECSR have an ambivalent impact on consumers’ attitudes through the mediation of negative emotions, such as shame, in more collectivist, low uncertainty avoidance and short-term oriented countries.Practical implicationsTailored recommendations for supermarket managers interested in ECSR and operating in an international context are provided.Social implicationsThis research highlights the varying impacts of environmental actions in international retailing.Originality/valueUsing the S-O-R and cultural theories, this study reveals nuances to existing knowledge on the role of consumers’ emotions in international retailing. It reveals the salience of negative emotions after the perception of a positively valenced stimulus across distinct cultural contexts.

The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of coping with stress and psychological resilience in the relationship between happiness and perceived stress of COVID-19 fear in Turkish adults.827 individuals (516 females, 311 males) above 18 years of age and living in Turkey participated in this research. The data of the research was collected through the COVID-19 Fear Scale, Depression-Happiness Scale Short Form, Perceived Stress Scale and Psychological Resilience Scale Short Form.The results show that fear of COVID-19 negatively predicts happiness and positively predicts perceived stress. According to the results, psychological resilience and coping with perceived stress mediate the relationship between fear of COVID-19 and happiness and stress. Moreover, psychological resilience and coping with perceived stress mitigate the impact of COVID-19 fear on happiness and stress.The findings provide evidence as to how to reduce the negative impact of COVID-19 on mental health. In addition, the results provide information to improve mental health during the pandemic period.KEY POINTSPsychological resilience reduces the effect of COVID-19 on stress and increases happiness levels.Coping with stress reduces the impact of COVID-19 on stress and increases happiness levels.

Research aims : This study aims to analyze factors affecting consumer intention to book hotels from social media and online travel agencies. Specifically, we examine the direct effects of social media usage and electronic word of mouth (e-WoM) and the indirect effect through the mediation of trust in booking intention. Design/Methodology/Approach : Purposively sampled respondents resulted in 409 responses that met the predefined criteria: aged 18-34, active on their social media accounts, and had accessed online booking sites. Regression with mediating analysis was conducted on valid data. Research findings : Analysis results showed that social media usage and e-WoM had a direct, positive, and significant impact on booking intention. It has also proven to have an indirect effect on consumer booking intention mediated by trust. Social media usage and e-WoM directly affected booking intention and had higher valence when mediated by trust. Theoretical contribution/Originality : Information on social media positively influenced consumer purchase intention on online hotel booking due to its completeness. Further, this study is among the few that applied the e-WOM concept to the hospitality sector. Practitioner/Policy implication : The implication for managers is to improve the online booking management system by increasing promptness in response to reviews, especially the negatives. Research limitation/Implication : This study focused on consumers who have social media accounts and accessed online hotel booking sites, limiting its generalizability.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional reflexivity and work-life integration through the mechanism of moral courage and enhance our understanding of the importance of these nursing concepts to enable the nurses to develop better coping strategies for work-life integration. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was performed with 249 nurses, including staff nurses, ICU and critical care nurses, operation theatre nurses, pediatric nurses from 17 hospitals. Emotional Reflexivity, work-life integration, and courage were measured using a demographic information questionnaire, Life Project Reflexivity Scale (LPRS), Nurse’s Moral Courage Scale (NMCS), and Work-Life Boundary Enactment (WLBE) scale. Career calling is a positive construct that describes how much individuals see their work as a meaningful and consuming passion, experienced as a transcendent summons, that defines their identity, their life’s purpose, and contributes to the common good. Somewhat surprisingly, recent research suggested that calling fosters workaholism. In a cross-sectional study ( N = 235), we investigated obsessive and harmonious passion as mediators and moderators of the relation between calling and workaholism. Results suggested that the relation between calling and workaholism is completely mediated by obsessive passion and partially mediated by harmonious passion. In addition, we observed that obsessive passion moderates the relation between calling and workaholism, such that when obsessive passion is high, calling protects individuals from workaholism. These results put into question the so-called dark side of calling.

Os jogos digitais incorporaram-se nas vivências de lazer de crianças e jovens. São importantes mediadores da cultura contemporânea e apresentam indícios de potencial educativo nas experiências lúdicas que produzem. Nesse sentido, o objetivo do estudo foi compreender por quais vias ocorre a educação para os games e identificar expressões de aprendizagem por meio da vivência dos jogos digitais. Aplicamos um questionário com 21 alunos e 14 alunas de 6° ano do ensino fundamental, com faixa etária entre 10 e 14 anos. Identificamos a mediação familiar e domiciliar no princípio da educação para os jogos digitais, bem como a presença dos círculos de amizades e das tecnologias nesse processo. Neste ponto chamamos atenção para a ausência da escola, da Educação Física e, principalmente, do Estado como instituições e ambiências mediadoras da formação cultural infanto-juvenil para, com e sobre o universo lúdico digital.
