Earthquakes are among the most destructive and unpredictable natural disasters. Various diseases and ailments, such as bone fractures, organ and soft-tissue injuries, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, and infectious diseases, can develop in the aftermath of severe earthquakes. Digital radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging are significant imaging modalities utilized for the quick and reliable assessment of earthquake-related ailments to facilitate the planning of suitable therapy. This article examines the usual radiological imaging characteristics observed in individuals from quake-damaged regions and summarizes the strengths and functionality of imaging modalities. In such circumstances, where quick decision-making processes are life-saving and essential, we hope this review will be a practical reference for readers.

Background and Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in predicting pathologic subtypes and grade in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Materials and Methods: From January 2018 to March 2020, 48 surgically diagnosed NSCLC cases were included in this study. To obtain ADC values, ADC maps were constructed, and a region of interest was put on the tumor. The values were measured three times from different places of the lesion, and the mean value of these measurements was recorded. All MRI scans were evaluated by two radiologists in consensus. Results: A total of 14 cases were squamous cell cancer, 32 cases were adenocarcinoma, and 2 cases were large cell carcinoma. The mean ADC values of adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and large cell cancer were 1.51 ± 0.19 × 10−3 mm2/s, 1.32 ± 0.15 × 10−3 mm2/s, and 1.39 ± 0.25 × 10−3 mm2/s, respectively. There were 11 grade 1, 27 grade 2, and 10 grade 3 NSCLC cases. The mean ADC value was 1.44 ± 0.14 × 10−3 mm2/s in grade 1 tumors, 1.25 ± 0.10 × 10−3 mm2/s in grade 2 tumors, and 1.07 ± 0.15 × 10−3 mm2/s in grade 3 tumors. The cut-off value to discriminate grade 2 from grade 1 tumors was 1.31 ± 0.11 × 10−3 mm2/s (85% sensitivity, 75% specificity). The cut-off value to discriminate grade 3 from grade 2 tumors was 1.11 ± 0.15 × 10−3 mm2/s (87% sensitivity, 69% specificity). Conclusions: ADC values can accurately predict NSCLC histopathologic subtypes and tumor grade.

Abstract Umbilical cord with a single umbilical artery (SUA) can carry twice the blood volume of a three-vessel cord (TVC). So, the normal hemodynamics of the fetuses with SUA was different from those with TVC. Furthermore, structural abnormalities, fetal aneuploidy, and intrinsic growth retardation may be associated with the presence of a SUA. In order to evaluate these patients, intermittent doppler measurements have been suggested. From this point, we aimed to determine the CDUS flow parameters in SUA cases and to demonstrate that these flow parameters are different from the TVC parameters. Ultrasound (US) examinations were performed in the 18–22 weeks of gestation during routine fetal anatomy screening. Resistance index (RI), Pulsatility index (PI), and S/D: systole to diastole ratio values were measured. The samples were taken from the proximal, mid-portion, and distal of the umbilical cord. In addition to Doppler Ultrasound values, AC and estimated fetal weight (EFW) values were also recorded. The study included 167 pregnant women, 86 of whom were study group with SUA and 81 were control group with TVC. The measurements of RI, PI, and S/D at all three levels were significantly lower in the SUA group compared to the TVC group. The resistance in the UA of fetuses with SUA is lower than in fetuses with TVC. The resistance in the UA of fetuses with SUA decreases from the fetal end to the placental end. Knowing the normal values for fetuses with SUA might provide a better and more reliable Doppler Ultrasoundassessment.

Shear wave elastography (SWE) has become popular in clinical practice for many diseases. However, there is not adequate research on spleen-related diseases. This study aimed to investigate the potential of quantitative values obtained through SWE in evaluating spleen pathologies in the pediatric population and to demonstrate its performance to differentiate splenomegaly-related diseases. The research group retrospectively included children with pathological diagnoses related to the spleen from November 2016 to April 2021, and they were categorized into three groups, including portal hypertension (PH), benign lymphoid hyperplasia (BLH), and malignant infiltration (MI). Spleen sizes and parenchymal stiffness were also calculated for each group. Subsequently, mean spleen stiffness in each group was compared with normal values within the same age group. In total, 2781 children (1379 children for the study group; 1402 children for the control group) were enrolled in the study. The highest stiffness was observed in the PH group, which is statistically higher than others (p < 0.05). Although the mean spleen stiffness in the group with BLH was higher than the control and MI group, the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.08). The mean stiffness in the group with MI was significantly lower than both the control group (p = 0.005) and PH (p = 0.01). In conclusion, using SWE in the differential diagnosis of etiologies causing splenomegaly could make an important contribution.

Background: Shear-wave elastography (SWE) was used to determine normal elasticity values of palatine tonsils (PTs) in children and adolescents who did not have any health problem, and the relationship between these values and various parameters influencing this result was examined. Methods: The current prospective study has been approved by the local Institutional Review Board. Our study included 122 people aged 2–18 years. SWE values for both PTs, as well as gender, age, and body mass index (BMI), were recorded. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to determine whether the data had a normal distribution. Numerical variables with a normal distribution are reported as mean ± standard deviation, while variables with a nonnormal distribution are reported as medians with minimum and maximum values. Numbers and percentages are used to report categorical variables. Results: The study group's average age was 10.77 ± 4.35 years. The mean SWE values were 9.89 ± 2.494 kPa for the right PT and 9.57 ± 2.631 kPa for the left PT. Both PT volumes were found to be 1.6 ± 0.9 mm3. There was no significant correlation between the SWE values obtained and age, height, weight, and BMI. Tonsil dimensions show a positive correlation with age, height, weight, and BMI. Conclusion: PT dimensions have a positive correlation with age, height, weight, and BMI, but not with SWE values. SWE may be a reliable diagnostic criterion independent of anthropometric values.

Objective Subcutaneous fat tissue thickness (SFTT) is a representative marker of obesity. This study was performed to determine the relationship between SFTT and chondromalacia patella (CP) through routine 1.5-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the knee. Methods In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 440 knee MRI scans were re-examined and divided into those with and without CP. A 1.5-Tesla MRI machine with a standard knee coil was used. Prepatellar SFTT (PSFTT) and medial SFTT (MSFTT) were measured on each MRI scan. PSFTT and MSFTT were compared between patients with and without CP. Results Both the PSFTT and MSFTT values were significantly higher in patients with than without CP. Women had significantly higher PSFTT and MSFTT values than men. A statistically significant correlation was found between the PSFTT and MSFTT values and the CP grades. Conclusions The results of this study indicate an association between SFTT and CP. A positive correlation was also found between SFTT and CP severity.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by the virus named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). In the literature, this virus has been associated with coagulation dysfunction and arterial thromboembolism. In clinical practice, corpus callosum infarcts are very rare, and the incidence of isolated splenium infarct is very low. Here, two cases of isolated splenium infarct after COVID-19 are reported with clinical and imaging findings. These findings are thought to be useful in daily practice for our colleagues. In addition, differential diagnoses of this entity will also be discussed in this case report.

Background: Computerized tomography (CT) has been increasingly utilized in the differential diagnosis of acute chest pain. Combining the triple rule out CT angiography (TRO-CT) approach with dual-energy CT (DECT) can enhance the diagnostic capability by identifying myocardial perfusion deficiencies. This combination can yield a quadruple-rule-out computed tomography angiography (QRO-CT) technique. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of the QRO-CT. Methods: Intraluminal diseases and abnormalities in the main coronary arteries and branches were investigated. The myocardial dark spots on the color-coded iodine map were identified as perfusion deficiencies. Pulmonary arteries and aorta were also evaluated. Results: The study population consisted of 211 patients. The sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of QRO-CT for pulmonary embolism were 93.5%, 100%, 100%, and 95.3%, respectively. For obstructive coronary artery disease, the values were 96.1%, 93.4%, 89.2%, and 97.7%, respectively. For myocarditis, the values were 69.2%, 100%, 100%, and 93.6%, respectively. Conclusions: the QRO-CT method may successfully evaluate myocardial perfusion deficits, hence expanding the differential diagnosis capabilities of the standard TRO-CT method for myocarditis. It can provide useful information on myocardial perfusion, which may influence the choice to perform invasive catheterization in cases of coronary artery obstruction.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) incidence can increase up to 14%. GDM creates a risk for developing type 2 diabetes mellitus after pregnancy. Umbilical artery (UA) and fetal middle cerebral artery (MCA) changes in GDM have been studied before. The previous studies have contradictory results. In the current study, we aim to detect and define the impairment of color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) characteristics in UA and MCA for the pregnant with GDM. Methods: US examinations were all performed at 18–22 weeks of gestation with a 3.5 MHz convex transducer. We recorded peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity, pulsatility index, resistive index, and systole/diastole ratio values of both UA and MCA at 18–22 weeks of gestation. GDM diagnosis was created according to the American Diabetes Association guidelines. Results: Sixty GDM patients and 61 healthy controls were included into the study. Median MCA PSV value was lower in GDM group (28 cm/s vs. 32 cm/s, P = 0.37). Among UA CDUS parameters, we cannot find any significant difference. In GDM group, we could not detect any significant correlation between CDUS parameters and HbA1C values. Conclusion: GDM changes fetal brain hemodynamics and the change can be detected at 18–22 weeks of gestation. Decreased fetal MCA PSV values can serve as an early warning for GDM.

According to population-based studies, lung cancer is the prominent reason for cancer-related mortality worldwide in males and is also rising in females at an alarming rate. Sorafenib (SOR), which is approved for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma, is a multitargeted protein kinase inhibitor. Additionally, SOR is the subject of interest for preclinical and clinical trials in lung cancer. This study was designed to assess in vivo the possible effects of sorafenib (SOR) in diethylnitrosamine (DEN)-induced lung carcinogenesis and examine its probable mechanisms of action. A total of 30 adult male rats were divided into three groups (1) control, (2) DEN, and (3) DEN + SOR. The chemical induction of lung carcinogenesis was performed by injection of DEN intraperitoneally at 150 mg/kg once a week for two weeks. The DEN-administered rats were co-treated with SOR of 10 mg/kg by oral gavage for 42 alternate days. Serum and lung tissue samples were analyzed to determine SRY-box transcription factor 2 (SOX-2) levels. The tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) levels were measured in lung tissue supernatants. Lung sections were analyzed for cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) histopathologically. In addition, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) were analyzed by immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence methods, respectively. SOR reduced the level of SOX-2 that maintenance of cancer stemness and tumorigenicity, and TNF-α and IL-1β levels. Histopathological analysis demonstrated widespread inflammatory cell infiltration, disorganized alveolar structure, hyperemia in the vessels, and thickened alveolar walls in DEN-induced rats. The damage was markedly reduced upon SOR treatment. Further, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence analysis also revealed increased expression of COX-2 and JNK expression in DEN-intoxicated rats. However, SOR treatment alleviated the expression of these inflammatory markers in DEN-induced lung carcinogenesis. These findings suggested that SOR inhibits DEN-induced lung precancerous lesions through decreased inflammation with concomitant in reduced SOX-2 levels, which enables the maintenance of cancer stem cell properties.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare additive diagnostic values of magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography with volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequence and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) arthrography for diagnosis and grading of talar osteochondral lesions. Methods: MDCT arthrography and MR arthrography with three dimensional VIBE sequence were performed in 27 patients. Findings of MR arthrography and MDCT arthrography images were compared with arthroscopic findings. Sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy rates were calculated for both MR arthrography and MDCT arthrography imaging findings. Results: For grade I osteochondral lesions; sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of MR arthrography were 95%, 73%, 90%, respectively; For grade I osteochondral lesions; sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of MDCT arthrography were 96%, 79%, 81%. For grade IV osteochondral lesions; sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of MDCT arthrography and MR arthrography were 100%. For grade II lesions, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of the MR arthrography were 80%, 76%, 77%, respectively; for grade III lesions, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of the MR arthrography were 78%, 68%, 75%. For grade II osteochondral lesions; the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of the MDCT arthrography were 91%, 81%, 86%; for grade III osteochondral lesions; the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates of the MDCT arthrography were 90%, 83%, 89%; For grade II and III osteochondral lesions, MDCT arthrography had higher sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rates than MR arthrography. MDCT arthrography had higher diagnostic performance than MR arthrography for detection of grade II and III lesions (p = 0.041 and p = 0.038, respectively). Conclusion: MDCT arthrography appears to be more reliable than MR arthrography with three dimensional VIBE sequence for accurate detection and grading of osteochondral lesions. Radiologists should be aware of the findings of alveolar echinococcosis (AE) due to the diagnostic and management value of imaging. We are attempting to define the most common diagnostic imaging findings of liver AE, along with the prevalence and distribution of those findings. The patients’ US, CT, and MRI images were reviewed retrospectively. CT images were acquired with and without the administration of contrast medium. The MRI protocol includes T2-weighted images (WI), diffusion (WI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) maps, and pre- and post-contrast T1WIs. The current study included 61 patients. The mean age of the population was 58.2 ± 9.6 years According to Kratzer’s categorization (US), 139 lesions (73.1%) were categorized as hailstorm. According to Graeter’s classification (CT), 139 (73.1%) lesions were type 1-diffuse infiltrating. The most frequent types were Kodama type 2 and 3 lesions (MRI) (42.6% and 48.7%, accordingly). P2N0M0 was the most frequent subtype. The current study defines the major, characteristic imaging findings of liver AE using US, CT, and MRI. Since US, CT, and MRI have all been utilized to diagnose AE, we believe that a multi-modality classification system is needed. The study’s findings may aid radiologists in accurately and timely diagnosing liver AE.

Contrast enhanced breast magnetic resonance imaging is a modality that is frequently used into the breast radiologist’s daily clinical practice. MRI examination should have optimal technical proficiency in order to attain diagnostic quality avoiding false positive and negative diagnoses. Furthermore, due to increasing usage fields of the examinations uniting with high sensitivity phenomenon, excessive usage and excision/interventional procedures are inevitable. Therefore, we hope to highlight the appropriate usage of the MRI technique and it’s clinical applications.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and feasibility of ultrasound (US)-guided magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography of the glenohumeral joint via a posterior approach.Materials and Methods: Thirty-four patients (18 males and 16 females) who were suspected to have glenohumeral joint pathology were examined using MR arthrography. The patients ranged in age from 21 to 85 years, and the average age was 45±15.9 years. A Toshiba Xario US unit was utilized. Ultrasonography examinations were conducted using a broad-band 5-12 MHz linear array transducer. Gadolinium was injected into the shoulder joint using an 18-20 gauge needle. MR imaging was performed within the first 30 min after the injection.Results: The injection of gadolinium into the shoulder joint was successfully accomplished in all 34 patients. Major contrast media extravasation outside the joint was depicted in only two patients (5.9%). No major complications were encountered.Conclusion: Ultrasonography is an effective alternate guidance technique for the injection of gadolinium into the glenohumeral joint for MR arthrography. US-guided arthrography via a posterior approach to the glenohumeral joint is safe, accurate, well tolerated by patients and easy to perform with minimal training.

In this report, we present an incidentally diagnosed and surgically treated patient with hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.
