A custom state-of-the-art RF BPM (EBPM) has been developed and commissioned at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II). A collaboration between Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Advanced Light Source (ALS) and BNL has proven to be a key element in the success of the NSLS-II EBPM. High stability coherent signal processing has allowed for demonstrated 200nm RMS spatial resolution and true turn-by-turn position measurement capability. Sub-micron 24 hr. stability has been demonstrated at NSLS-II by use of 0.01C RMS thermal regulation of the electronics racks without the need of active pilot tone correction., Proceedings of the North American Particle Accelerator Conf., NAPAC2016, Chicago, IL, USA

Similar to other advanced third generation light sources, NSLS2 storage ring has stringent requirements on beam orbit stability. NSLS2 BPMs can be synchronously triggered to record turn by turn or fast acquisition 10kHz data. Spectrum of these data reveals various beam motion frequencies and it has been characterized at various machine conditions. Compared to the ground motion and utility system vibration spectra, beam motion introduced by the vibrations can be identified. An algorithm to locate possible noise sources from the measured spectrum has been developed. NSLS-II state-of-the-art BPMs provide a single micron turn-by-turn BPM resolution for any bunch train of reasonable intensity. For certain beam dynamics studies a similar, or even better, resolution is desired for a single-, or a few-bunch fill, which is not yet available with our standard BPM signal processing. This paper describes our experience with more advanced BPM ADC signal processing which allowed us to significantly improve turn-by-turn BPM resolution in single bunch mode down to the level of about one micron at ~1 nC/bunch. The NSLS-II storage ring is protected from possible damage from insertion devices (IDs) synchrotron radiation by a dedicated active interlock system (AIS). It monitors electron beam position and angle and triggers beam drop if beam orbit exceeds the boundaries of pre-calculated active interlock envelope. In this paper we describe functional details of the AIS and discuss our experience with commissioning of the AIS for the first six IDs installed in the storage ring., Proceedings of the 6th Int. At National Synchrotron Light Source-II (NSLS-II), a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) based global active interlock system (AIS) has been commissioned and used for beam operations. The main propose of AIS is to protect insertion devices (ID) and vacuum chambers from the thermal damage of high density synchrotron radiation power.
