Abstract Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common and persistent mental illness accompanied by uncontrollable worries for daily staff. Physiological, environmental, genetic, and daily stress from surroundings is involved in developing GAD. Here, we aimed to assess the association of stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF-1) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) in the pathophysiology of GAD and their role as diagnostic tools. This case-control study recruited 50 GAD patients from the psychiatry department of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Dhaka city and 38 age-sex-matched healthy controls (HCs) from the surrounding areas. A qualified psychiatrist conducted standardized psychiatric interview to diagnose GAD patients and evaluate HCs by applying the diagnostic and statistical manual for mental disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) and used the GAD-7 scale to assess the severity of the GAD symptoms. Abstract In recent times, the pathogenesis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and the influence of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines on it have garnered considerable interest. Cytokine research, especially Th-17 cytokine research on GAD patients, is limited. Here, we aim to assess the role of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) and interleukin-23A (IL-23A) in the pathophysiology and development of GAD. This investigation included 50 GAD patients and 38 age-sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). A psychiatrist diagnosed patients with GAD and assessed symptom severity using the DSM-5 and the GAD-7 scales. The serum concentrations of IL-17A and IL-23A were determined using commercially available ELISA kits. GAD patients exhibited elevated levels of IL-17A (77.14 ± 58.30 pg/ml) and IL-23A (644.90 ± 296.70 pg/ml) compared to HCs (43.50 ± 25.54 pg/ml and 334.40 ± 176.0 pg/ml). We observed a positive correlation between disease severity and cytokine changes (IL-23A: r = 0.359, p = 0.039; IL-17A: r = 0.397, p = 0.032). These findings indicate that IL-17A and IL-23A may be associated with the pathophysiology of GAD. ROC analysis revealed moderately higher AUC values (IL-23A: 0.824 and IL-17A: 0.710), demonstrating their potential to discriminate between patients and HCs. Also, the sensitivity values of both cytokines were relatively higher (IL-23A: 80.49% and IL-17A: 77.27%). According to the present findings, there may be an association between peripheral serum levels of IL-17A and IL-23A and the pathophysiology and development of GAD. These altered serum IL-17A and IL-23A levels may play a role in directing the early risk of developing GAD. We recommend further research to ascertain their exact role in the pathophysiology and their performance as risk assessment markers of GAD.

Abstract Background Early initiation of breastfeeding is the initiation of breastfeeding within one hour of birth, which plays a significant role in a born baby’s growth and survival, however its prevalence and predictors among urban full-time readymade garments (RMG) working mothers are not investigated. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and factors affecting early initiation of breastfeeding among urban RMG working mothers. Methods A sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted between March 2023 and December 2023 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A total of 452 full-time female RMG workers were included for the quantitative study. Qualitative study was carried out among 30 full-time female RMG workers, four female physicians who were employed in the RMGs, four RMG factory managers, and four local pediatricians. Results The prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding was 40% among the women. It was significantly associated with various factors, including socio-cultural barriers, the advanced age of the mother (AOR 3.93, 95%CI 1.18, 13.04), lack of education (AOR 6.86, 95%CI 1.11, 42.49), lack of awareness, and cultural practices such as initiating goat milk and honey instead of breast milk. The absence of colostrum feeding (AOR 8.96, 95%CI 4.30, 18.70) and pre-lacteal feeding (AOR 0.06, 95%CI 0.03, 0.11) were significant baby feeding practice-related barriers to early initiation of breastfeeding. Maternal health factors, notably post-delivery sickness, cesarean delivery, and lack of breastmilk production, were revealed as a significant hindrance to the early initiation of breastfeeding explored from qualitative analysis. In addition, RMG factory-related factors that significantly affect early initiation of breastfeeding include a strong focus on production, a busy schedule, and a lack of initiative regarding the early initiation of breastfeeding. Conclusions The prevalence of early initiation of breastfeeding among RMG working women is poor. This study emphasizes the need for interventions that address specific challenges of early initiation of breastfeeding faced by working mothers in RMG sectors, including improved lactation education, increased awareness to mitigate cultural barriers, RMG factory-based initiatives to empower female workers early initiation of breastfeeding, and preparing early initiation of breastfeeding -friendly post-cesarean unit at the health care facility.

Abstract Background Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a devastating mental health condition characterized by constant, uncontrolled worrying. Recent hypotheses indicate that pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines are potential contributors to the pathogenesis of GAD. Here, we aimed to assess the role of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) in the pathophysiology and development of GAD. Methods This study recruited 50 GAD patients diagnosed according to the DSM-5 criteria and 38 age-sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). A qualified psychiatrist evaluated all study subjects. The socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the study population were determined using pre-structured questionnaires or interviews, and cytokine serum levels were estimated using commercially available ELISA kits. Results We observed reduced serum IL-10 levels in GAD patients compared to HCs (33.69 ± 1.37 pg/ml vs. 44.12 ± 3.16 pg/ml). Also, we observed a significant negative correlation between altered IL-10 levels and GAD-7 scores (r=-0.315, p = 0.039). Moreover, IL-10 serum measurement exhibited good predictive value in receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis with an area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.793 (p 0.05) exhibited by IL-2 serum measurement in ROC analysis further supported that IL-2 might not be associated with GAD. Conclusion This study provides new insights into the complex interplay between anti-inflammatory cytokines and GAD pathogenesis. Based on the present findings, we can assume that IL-10 but not IL-2 may be associated with the pathophysiology and development of GAD. However, further research with a larger population size and longitudinal design is required to confirm the potential diagnostic efficacy of IL-10.

ABSTRACT Aim The human adenovirus (HAdV) is beginning to spread rapidly in children through human, surface and animal vectors. Around 12,000 cases were recognised in 2022 in West Bengal and a shocking number of cases arose throughout India and in other under‐developed areas. This is going to be a big threat to public health since no vaccine, awareness or protocol policies were introduced. Early detection, immediate isolation and proper policy developments are the key factors in overcoming the situation. Therefore, we performed this rapid review and discussed probable mitigation strategies, updated research on vaccine development, and treatment strategies to control the outbreaks of mutated HAdV. Design This is a narrative review of publicly available information. Methods Here, we extracted updated information and data using the terms HAdV outbreaks, mutations, species, risks and prevention from Google Scholar and PubMed. We considered relevant articles that have discussed prevention strategies, ongoing research, and antiviral drugs for managing HAdV outbreaks. Results Early detection from throat swabs, isolation and symptomatic treatments are required to minimise viral infections. A massive test needs to be performed to find the affected people. The cases should be immediately isolated. It is recommended to treat high‐touch surfaces with heat‐ or bleach‐containing cleaners to prevent the spread of infection. Oxygen support and many broad‐spectrum antivirals have been used to treat HAdV. Several studies showed antibody neutralisation and interactions between the natural killer cell receptor KIR3DS1 and HLA‐F in infected cells, indicating possible therapeutic options in the future. HAdV‐4 and HAdV‐7 vaccines have been limitedly approved for administration to military personnel. Conclusion Isolation, certain safety measures, broad‐spectrum antiviral drugs and further research on new vaccines could be useful to prevent this virus from producing a worldwide pandemic. Also, the authorities should ensure the proper therapeutic interventions and nursing care facilities for the infected children. Abstract Background and Aim Premenstrual tension syndrome can vary in type and severity among females, potentially affecting their academic performance. This study aims to examine the prevalence and severity of premenstrual tension syndrome symptoms in female university students and their impact on academics. Methods A cross‐sectional descriptive study was conducted among female university students from Ras Al Khaimah, UAE over 6 months, from January 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022. The updated premenstrual tension syndrome self‐rating scale questionnaire was used to assess the prevalence and severity of symptoms. A total of 251 respondents were included in the study. The chi‐square test was used to determine the association between PMT and academic performance. Results The results showed that 78.9% of the participants experienced premenstrual tension syndrome, with 16.3% of them reporting premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The majority of participants reported mild to moderate symptoms, with anxiety and depressed mood being the most common psychological symptoms. In terms of behavioral symptoms, physical symptoms and feeling overwhelmed were the most prevalent. Furthermore, 90% of participants reported a negative impact on their academic performance, with paying attention in class being the most affected. The study also found that PMT disorder had a significant impact on physical activities and extracurricular activities. Conclusions Our study showed a high prevalence of premenstrual disorders among female students and their influence on physical activity and extracurricular participation. The study highlights the importance of implementing therapies for PMT syndrome and providing support to improve academic performance and overall quality of life.

The study involved extracting different fractions from black pepper using solvents of varying polarities. The three fractions obtained were the PEF, CHF, and AQF. The yield values of the fractions were determined, and it was found that PEF had the highest yield, while AQF had the lowest. Subsequently, three in vitro hypoglycemic tests were performed to evaluate the hypoglycaemic activity of black pepper. The IC50 value (the concentration required for 50 % inhibition) for the α-amylase inhibitory activity was found to be 1.191 for PEF and 3.591 for CHF where acarbose, a standard hypoglycaemic drug, was used as a reference in this test. The second test evaluated the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, where PEF exhibited an IC50 value of 1.47, and CHF had an IC50 value of 2.95 and again acarbose was utilized as the standard for comparison. The third test involved assessing glucose uptake by yeast cells. At 5 Mm glucose concentration and 5 mg/ml extract concentration, the percentage of glucose uptake by yeast cell was 69 for CHF and 76 for PEF. At 10 Mm glucose concentration and 5 mg/ml extract concentration, the percentage of glucose uptake by yeast cell was 43 for CHF and 57 for PEF. At 25 Mm glucose concentration and 5 mg/ml extract concentration, the percentage of glucose uptake by yeast cell was 28 for CHF and 30 for PEF. It was concluded that the PEF fraction of black pepper exhibited better hypoglycaemic activity compared to the standard metronidazole from the tests. However, further research and studies are necessary to isolate and identify the specific bioactive compounds responsible for the observed hypoglycaemic effects and to evaluate their efficacy and safety.

As the frequency of extreme weather events continues to rise, there is an urgent need to strengthen the safe and stable operation of active distribution networks (ADNs), and it is of great value to establish highly resilient ADNs to withstand multi-faults caused by extreme weather events. This paper proposes a multi-period restoration approach for the resilience increase of ADNs by considering fault rapid recovery and component repair under typhoon disasters. Firstly, based on the structural reliability theory, the failure rate model of the main components is established, and in light of the system information entropy, the typical fault scenario selection strategy is designed to determine the branches with high fault probability. Then, according to the fault islanding division and network reconfiguration, a fault rapid recovery method is suggested for the ADNs, where the impact of typhoon disasters on the output features of distributed generators (DGs) are taken into account, and meanwhile, the network structure and the output power of the DGs are jointly optimized to minimize the operating cost of the ADNs. Further, a fault component repair model is formulated by adopting the adaptive ant colony algorithm, and a multi-period restoration approach is proposed for the ADNs to fulfill a rolling optimization of the network reconfiguration and fault component repair. The improved IEEE 33-node and IEEE 118-node systems are used for the approach verification, and the results show that the proposed approach can effectively improve the overall load restoration level and increase the component repair efficiency. Following a multi-criteria resilience evaluation system, the proposed approach enables the ADNs to more effectively withstand typhoon disasters, offering a resilience increase of 6.93 % and 32.24 % regarding the 33-node and 118-node systems.

Abstract Background and Aims The pervasive nature of online gaming, notably accentuated during the COVID‐19 pandemic, has spurred concerns regarding gaming addiction among children. This study explores the intricate ramifications of online gaming addiction on the academic performance and social dynamics of children in Bangladesh. Our primary objective is to gauge the extent of online gaming addiction and unravel its profound effects on academic performance. Methods Conducting a nationwide survey from January 1, 2023, to June 30, 2023, we analyzed 502 responses from participants aged 6–17 years. The survey encompassed sociodemographic details, gaming addiction assessment, and academic performance following a simple random sampling method. We analyzed participant demographics utilizing descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression. Results Key findings revealed a majority within the 13–17 age bracket (75.50%), predominantly male (58.57%), and enrolled in secondary education (83.27%). A robust inverse relationship showed that nonaddicted students towards online gaming had higher academic performance. Therefore, it is important to implement targeted strategies to address online gaming addiction among Bangladeshi children. Conclusion Recommending early intervention, academic initiatives, and holistic therapy, we advocate for collaboration among educational institutions, mental health professionals, parents, and policymakers. All of these initiatives are essential to navigate the evolving challenges presented by gaming addiction. Furthermore, our call for ongoing research seeks to deepen our understanding of enduring consequences on academic and social dimensions, fostering a digitally supportive environment conducive to the holistic well‐being of children.

Abstract Among different types of transformerless photovoltaic inverters, multi‐level inverters based on switched‐capacitors (SC) are the burning topic of recent decades due to their potential advantages, such as, single source requirement, voltage boosting capability, and high power density. However, for a seven level output voltage, a conventional SC based inverter architecture uses more than two units of SC, a large amount of power switches, which then lead to capacitor voltage balancing problems. This paper presents a seven‐level switched‐capacitor transformerless inverter (SCTI), which is structured with only two SC units, ten power switches, and a single DC source. The proposed SCTI ensures voltage boosting capability, self‐voltage balancing, and low power semiconductor losses. Apart from these, a modified sinusoidal pulse width modulation (MSPWM) is also proposed in this work, which guarantees better thermal performance and low inverter output voltage THD for the proposed SCTI. The proposed SCTI along with the MSPWM is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS computer simulation environments. A reduced scale laboratory prototype is also built and tested to ensure the feasibility of the proposed SCTI.

Abstract The early detection of colorectal polyps is crucial for the reduction of mortality rates. However, manually identifying polyps is time-consuming and expensive, increasing the risk of missing them. Our paper aims to address this issue by presenting an automated segmentation approach for colorectal polyps. This paper proposes a method that combines a skip connection with hybrid attention guidance (AG) using attention guidance (AG) and residual path frameworks to identify salient features. Furthermore, we augment test samples using original, horizontal flip, and vertical flip transformations to enhance model robustness through Test Time Augmentation (TTA). The model was trained with Kvasir-seg samples and evaluated on Kvasir-seg and CVC-ClinicDB datasets to gauge generalizability. A significant accuracy (0.9546), a Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) of 0.8557, a Cross-section over Union (IoU) of 0.8824, a Recall (0.8221), a Precision (0.8922), an area under Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC-AUC) of 0.9454, and an area under Precision-Recall (AUC-PR) of 0.8717 were achieved without TTA. Through TTA integration, accuracy (0.9993), DSC (0.8663), IoU (0.8277), Recall (0.8060), Precision (0.9364), and ROC-AUC (0.9587) have been improved. A comparison of our framework with state-of-the-art models demonstrated its effectiveness and segmentation capabilities. Additionally, the proposed model contains only 0.47 million parameters and a weight size of 6.71 MB, illustrating its potential for clinical diagnostics. A computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system improves patient outcomes by detecting colorectal polyps early and improving segmentation accuracy.

Despite the many fatalities and injuries, Bangladesh lacks holistic individual flood preparedness studies. This study evaluates flood preparedness in the flood-prone rural region of Dowarabazar Upazila, Sunamganj District, Bangladesh. The field survey had 596 respondents. As required, we implemented Spearman’s rank correlation and multiple linear regression. Flooding affected the study population, which made people feel extremely unsafe. Most respondents warned that floods might affect their homes. Many participants reported receiving flood-related information from locals. Most participants reported not being notified of flood forecasts and warnings in their area. The majority indicated that they sought refuge in flood shelters. A significant portion of the participants in the study were unaware of flood preparedness. Loss minimization and adaptability are deficiencies. Concerning flood preparedness, gender, age, occupation, monthly income, multiple sources of income, and house type are all significant determinants. According to field research, females are less prepared for flooding than males. Individuals with pucca housing are better equipped than those with unsafe housing (kacha). Authorities should thus take these factors into account while enhancing flood preparedness. In addition to implementing measures such as improving livelihood patterns and conducting educational campaigns, it is imperative to construct holistic flood preparedness.

Abstract Objective Breast cancer is one of the leading cancer causes among women worldwide. It can be classified as invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) or metastatic cancer. Early detection of breast cancer is challenging due to the lack of early warning signs. Generally, a mammogram is recommended by specialists for screening. Existing approaches are not accurate enough for real‐time diagnostic applications and thus require better and smarter cancer diagnostic approaches. This study aims to develop a customized machine‐learning framework that will give more accurate predictions for IDC and metastasis cancer classification. Methods This work proposes a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for classifying IDC and metastatic breast cancer. The study utilized a large‐scale dataset of microscopic histopathological images to automatically perceive a hierarchical manner of learning and understanding. Results It is evident that using machine learning techniques significantly (15%–25%) boost the effectiveness of determining cancer vulnerability, malignancy, and demise. The results demonstrate an excellent performance ensuring an average of 95% accuracy in classifying metastatic cells against benign ones and 89% accuracy was obtained in terms of detecting IDC. Conclusions The results suggest that the proposed model improves classification accuracy. Therefore, it could be applied effectively in classifying IDC and metastatic cancer in comparison to other state‐of‐the‐art models.

Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) is caused by a specific strain of the 6 types of human coronaviruses (HCoV). MERS-CoV has spread unchecked since it was first discovered in Saudi Arabia in 2012. The virus most likely spreads through nosocomial and zoonotic channels. Genetic analyses suggest that bats were the initial hosts and that the disease spread to camels. Person-to-person transmission occurs with varying frequency, being most prevalent in clinical settings and the least common among the general population and among close relatives. Due to the severity of the illness, high fatality rate, potential for epidemic spread, and lack of adequate medical countermeasures, the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to list MERS-CoV as a priority pathogen. While no specific antiviral medicines exist, a combination of antivirals has shown promise in recent clinical trials. Vaccines against MERS-CoV are critically needed and are currently being developed. Early diagnosis and implementing appropriate infection control measures are keys to preventing hospital-associated outbreaks. Preventive measures include avoiding raw or undercooked meats and other animal products, ensuring proper hand hygiene in healthcare settings and around dromedaries, educating the public and healthcare personnel about the disease, and adhering to other recommended practices. Countries with a high prevalence of MERS should adhere to regulations designed to limit the transmission of the virus. The recent spread of MERS-CoV highlights the importance of public awareness regarding the significance of reporting symptoms so that appropriate control measures can be adopted. The narrative review discusses the incidence of MERS, its clinical presentation, potential transmission routes, recent reports, preventative and control measures, and current therapeutic options.

The heart shattering impact afflicted by the notorious cervical cancer is rising rapidly as it emerges as the second most prevalent cancer among women in the developing countries. There was an anticipated 604,127 observed reports and 341,831 fatalities reported worldwide in 2020. The mortality rate was 7.2 deaths per 100,000 women-years, while the age-standardized incidence rate was 13.3 cases per 100,000 women annually. In less developed countries, the accountability was around 87–90% of mortality and roughly 84% of newly diagnosed cases. Resource limitations, inadequate public awareness, and late-stage diagnosis aggravate the complications of cancer mitigation in these regions, compared to the higher income nations. While primary and secondary interventions come off as an enticing solution, international collaborations and the integration of technology also emerge as promising avenues for enhancing cancer care accessibility. This study aims to assess the progress of developing countries in meeting the World Health Organization’s mandate to eliminate cervical cancer by scrutinizing the prevalence of cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates, evaluating the impact and execution of HPV vaccination initiatives, and analyzing proposals for cervical cancer eradication within these nations, our objective is to accelerate advancements towards the ultimate goal of eradicating cervical cancer.

Shrimp farming is currently a great challenge because of unexpected diseases and increasing prices of commercial feed. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the aquamimicry culture technique, based on the application of fermented rice bran as a replacement for commercial feed, on the growth, immunity, and survival rate of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) reared under natural conditions to address these challenges. Aquamimicry culture ponds were designed with high-density polythene liners in the embankment to prevent soil erosion, and a central pit with a suction pump to remove accumulated culture waste, while traditional existing ponds were prepared following standard methods. The liquid fermented rice bran (LFRB) was used to produce food before stocking. Shrimp were grown for 90 days in one of three treatments: T0 (control):100% commercial feed (CF) in a traditional pond, T1:90% CF + 10% LFRB, or T2:70% CF + 30% LFRB in aquamimicry pond with a density of 10 PL/m2. LFRB was prepared by fermenting rice bran with Bacillus subtilis for 24 h under continuous aeration. The average growth rate of shrimp was significantly higher in T2 (0.47 g day−1) than in T1 (0.34 g day−1) or T0 (0.05 g day−1). The survival rate of the shrimp was significantly higher in treatments T2 (55±12%) and T1 (45±8%) than in treatment T0. Furthermore, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the pathogenic strain responsible for early mortality syndrome in P. monodon, was identified based on bacterial colony morphology obtained from the water and hepatopancreas of shrimp in the control ponds. The shrimp in the T2 treatment had a healthier hepatopancreas and significantly higher total hemocyte count (3.6×103cells mL−1) than the shrimp reared in T0 (2.5×103cells mL−1) and T1(2.5×103cells mL−1). This study revealed that the aquamimicry culture technique could ensure better growth, immunity, and survival rates of black tiger shrimp, whereas 70% CF + 30% LFRB (i.e., T2) showed the best performance.

Inclusion effect of different amount of jack mackerel meal (JMM) in the diets substituting 50% fish meal (FM) with corn gluten meal (CGM) on growth, feed availability, biochemical composition, plasma, and serum chemistry of olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was elucidated. Seven experimental diets were formulated. The control (Con) diet contained 60% FM. Fifty percent of FM in the Con diet was substituted with CGM, and then 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50% JMM were added at the expense of FM to formulate the CJ5, CJ10, CJ20, CJ30, CJ40, and CJ50 diets, respectively. All formulated feeds were assigned to triplicate groups of fish. A total of 420 juvenile fish averaging 18 ± 0.01 g (mean ± SEM) was uniformly divided into 21, 50-L tanks, with 20 fish per tank. Fish were carefully hand-fed to satiation for 8 weeks. The weight gain of olive flounder fed the Con diet was significantly (p 0.05) different from that of fish fed the CJ30, CJ40, and CJ50 diets. Olive flounder fed the Con diet achieved significantly (p 0.05) different from those of fish fed the CJ20, CJ30, CJ40, and CJ50 diets. However, there were no significant (p > 0.05) differences in feed utilization, proximate composition, amino acid profiles, and plasma and serum parameters of olive flounder. In conclusion, incorporation of 30, and 20% JMM are the most desirable treatments in the olive flounder diets replacing 50% FM with CGM based on weight gain, and SGR and feed consumption, respectively. This study will be very helpful to develop low-FM diets for sustainable olive flounder culture.

The low fish meal (FM) diet commonly causes deteriorated palatability, and eventually leads to lowered feed consumption and growth performance of fish. This study was, therefore, designed to determine inclusion impact of the graded levels of jack mackerel meal (JMM) in olive flounder (P. olivaceus) diets replacing 50% FM with tuna by-product meal (TBM) on growth, feed availability, biochemical composition, blood chemistry, and economic efficiency. Six isonitrogenous (55.5%) and isolipidic (10.0%) diets were formulated. Sixty percent FM was incorporated in the control (Con) diet. In the Con diet, fifty percent of FM was replaced by TBM, and then 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50% JMM were included at the cost of FM, referred as the TJ10, TJ20, TJ30, TJ40, and TJ50 diets, respectively. Three hundred and sixty juvenile fish (18.0 ± 0.01g; mean ± SD) were delivered into 18, 50-L flow-through tanks. All diets were randomly assigned to triplicate groups of fish. Fish were hand-fed to apparent satiation twice daily for 56 days. Weight gain, specific growth rate, and feed consumption of fish fed the TJ30, TJ40, and TJ50 diets were significantly (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, and P < 0.002, respectively) greater than those of fish fed the Con and TJ10 diets, but not significantly (P > 0.05) different from those of fish fed the TJ20 diet. Feed utilization, proximate composition, amino acid profiles, and blood chemistry of fish were not significantly (P > 0.05) altered by dietary treatments. However, the TJ30 diet was the most recommendable to farmers in terms of economic profit index (EPI). Conclusively, 30% inclusion of JMM is the most recommendable in the olive flounder diet substituting 50% FM with TBM based on growth performance, feed availability, and EPI.

The magnetic linked converter plays a significant role in the power electronics industry due to its merits of being flexible to control, the high efficiency of power transmission, the performance of galvanic isolation, etc. These features make magnetic linked converter a prominent candidate for an effective interface for renewable energy integration to the traditional power grid, more electric aircraft applications, electric vehicle charging implementation, etc. The traditional controller of the magnetic linked converter is the linear control method which cannot ensure smooth bidirectional power routing and a high level of decoupling especially for the electric vehicle charging application. In the worst-case scenario, the traditional controllers can be fully saturated and cause severe system-wide unbalancing issues. Recently, the magnetic linked converter technology with advanced control decisions has been adopted for the electric vehicle charging application. The magnetic linked converter technology for electric vehicle charging applications provides a higher degree of control flexibility to supply multiple loads simultaneously in terms of soft-switching ability, galvanic isolation, and high-density power transmission. With regard to the control methods, numerous advanced controls are developed and proposed for the magnetic linked converter to ensure robust voltage control, smooth bidirectional power routing control, and high degree of decoupling to avoid any control interactions up to date. There have been a few review studies on the converter topology, control, and power management for magnetic-linked power converters for future for renewable energy integration to the traditional power grid, more electric aircraft applications, and electric vehicle charging implementation in the literature. However, a detailed review of magnetic-linked power converter topologies, controls, and power management on these applications is still limited in terms of a variety of power electronic interfaces with appropriate controls and power management. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive review with a more specific assessment of the variety of magnetic-linked power electronic interfaces with controls and power management for the widespread emerging applications.

Research into solar photovoltaic (PV) fed grid-tied multilevel inverters (MLIs) has increased in recent years due to their distinct features compared to two-level voltage source inverters (VSIs). However, maintaining the power quality of MLIs is a challenging problem that encompasses the reduction of total harmonic distortion (THD), dc-link voltage imbalance issues, power loss reduction and thermal stress mitigation; which are significantly affected by the applied pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. In order to tackle the above mentioned power quality problems, this work presents a modified hybrid PWM technique which combines a modified modulating signal with a modified carrier signal. The comparison between the proposed and the existing PWM techniques is performed under different conditions and using a wide range of modulation index variations. A grid-tied three-phase three-level T-type neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter is adopted for the power quality assessment. The proposed hybrid PWM offers 25.57% output line voltage THD and 11.8 V peak-to-peak dc-link capacitor voltage difference which are lower than existing PWM techniques. Additionally, by reducing the switching and conduction losses of the power switches, the proposed hybrid PWM technique offers lower thermal stress than existing PWM techniques. The comparative analysis between the existing and the proposed hybrid PWM technique is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink and PLECS simulation environments. The proposed hybrid PWM technique is further validated using a reduced scale prototype developed in our research laboratory.

Detecting colorectal polyps promptly and accurately is crucial in preventing the progression of colorectal cancer. These polyps cause severe conditions in the colon or rectum, presenting a significant diagnostic challenge. Traditional manual detection through medical imaging is not only bulky and prone to errors but also incurs substantial costs, requiring expert endoscopist. Inefficient detection and treatment can lead to critical health complications. Addressing these issues, we extensively employed various configurations of the state-of-the-art YOLOv8 (n-nano, s-small, m-medium, l-large, and x-extra-large) models for effective polyp localization. Complementing this, we proposed a novel TR-SE-Net model for segmentation, integrating Squeeze-and-Excite Networks (SE-Net) to elevate performance and real-time processing capabilities. The Kvasir-SEG dataset is utilized for training and testing models, supplemented by external validation CVC-ClinicDB, PolypGen, ETIS-LaribPolypDB, EDD 2020, and BKAI-IGH to confirm their efficacy in processing unseen, real-time data. This study delves into the interpretability of these models using explainable AI (XAI), such as eigen visualization for localization and heatmap analysis for segmentation. This exploration provides deeper insights into the decision-making processes of the models, thereby enhancing their reliability. Notably, the YOLOv8m model showcased remarkable prediction speed (approximately 16.61 ms) and excelled in precision (0.946), recall (0.771), F1-score (0.85), mAP50 (0.886), and mAP50–95 (0.695), catering to diverse clinical scenarios. The TR-SE-Net demonstrated significant improvements in segmentation performances, including DSC (0.8754), F2-score (0.8786), precision (0.9027), recall (0.8879), accuracy (0.9647), competitive mIoU (0.7961), FPS (54), parameters (27.27 million), and flops (10.59 GMac). Furthermore, A graphical Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system developed utilizing both models can substantially reduce the miss rate because segmentation will assist in polyp detection or vice versa if localization fails. Conclusively, integrating these advanced computer-aided methods substantially enhances colonoscopy procedures by mitigating the risks of colorectal cancer.

Abstract Recently, scientists have focused on pro-inflammatory cytokines and immunological dysregulation in major depressive disorder (MDD). Some research suggests pro-inflammatory cytokines' role in MDD development, whereas anti-inflammatory studies are sparse. There is no systematic investigation of Bangladeshi MDD patients' pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. This study examines the blood levels of IL-12 and IL-4 in Bangladeshi patients and healthy controls (HCs) to determine the diagnostic accuracy of these cytokines to identify MDD patients from those without MDD. A total of 110 people with MDD from the department of psychiatry of a teaching hospital in Dhaka and 107 HCs from Dhaka participated in this case–control study. Depression and illness severity were gauged using DSM-5 criteria and Ham-D scores. Commercially marketed ELISA kits were used in accordance with manufacturer guidelines to measure the levels of IL-12 and IL-4 in peripheral blood, allowing a comparison of the patient and control groups. In comparison to HCs, MDD patients (5333.00 ± 307.40 pg/ml) showed noticeably higher levels of IL-12 than in HCs (2331.00 ± 207.40 pg/ml). Abstract Background Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a debilitating health condition that has significant morbidity and mortality rates. Depression can be caused due to social, biological, environmental, psychological, and genetic factors. A few biological processes have been proposed as the pathophysiological pathways of depression. Neurotrophic factors and inflammatory cytokines have been linked to depression. Thus, we aimed to investigate the serum interleukin-33 (IL-33) and mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) in MDD patients and corresponding healthy controls (HCs). Method This study involved the inclusion of 129 MDD patients and 125 HCs matched by sex and age. A psychiatrist evaluated the study participants following DSM-5 criteria. The severity of the illness was assessed utilizing the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (Ham-D). The serum concentrations of IL-33 and MANF were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. Results The mean serum levels of IL-33 were decreased (159.12 ± 6.07 pg/ml vs. 180.60 ± 8.64 pg/ml, p = 0.042), and the MANF levels were increased (5.40 ± 0.19 ng/ml vs. 4.46 ± 0.21 ng/ml, p = 0.001) in MDD patients when compared to HCs. Conclusions The current study proposes that lower IL-33 and higher MANF serum levels are associated with MDD progression and depression severity. These biomarkers could be used as risk assessment tools for MDD. We recommend more investigation, including a significant population, to determine the precise function of IL-33 and MANF in depression.

Abstract Background and Aims Pancreatic cancer develops in the normal tissues of the pancreas from malignant cells. The chance of recovery is not good, and the chance of survival 5 years following diagnosis is quite low. Pancreatic cancer treatment strategies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy had relatively low success rates. Therefore, the present study aims to explore new therapies for treating pancreatic cancer. Methods The present study searched for information about pancreatic cancer pathophysiology, available treatment options; and their comparative benefits and challenges. Aiming to identify potential alternative therapeutics, this comprehensive review analyzed information from renowned databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Results In recent years, there has been a rise in interest in the possibility that natural compounds could be used as treatments for cancer. Cannabinoids, curcumin, quercetin, resveratrol, and triptolide are some of the anticancer phytochemicals now used to manage pancreatic cancer. The above compounds are utilized by inhibiting or stimulating biological pathways such as apoptosis, autophagy, cell growth inhibition or reduction, oxidative stress, epithelial–mesenchymal transformation, and increased resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs in the management of pancreatic cancer. Conclusion Right now, surgery is the only therapeutic option for patients with pancreatic cancer. However, most people who get sick have been diagnosed too late to benefit from potentially effective surgery. Alternative medications, like natural compounds and herbal medicines, are promising complementary therapies for pancreatic cancer. Therefore, we recommend large‐scale standardized clinical research for the investigation of natural compounds to ensure their consistency and comparability in pancreatic cancer treatment.

Abstract Background and Aims Bangladesh has been going through outbreaks of dengue fever cases every year since 2000. Yet this year's (2023) episode of dengue fever has crossed every line concerning fatality. Symptoms of the fever range from high fever, headaches, and muscle aches to deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). The present review aims to assess the current pathogenicity and associated risk factors of recent dengue outbreaks in Bangladesh. Methods To perform this review work, we extracted relevant information from published articles available in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. We used dengue virus, dengue fever, and dengue outbreaks as keywords while searching for information. Results This Aedes mosquito‐transmitted viral fever is more common in Bangladesh because of the tropical nature and immense burden of populations, resulting in convenient conditions for the reproduction of the vector. The rapid genetic transformation of this RNA virus and the resistance of its vector against insecticides have intensified the situation. The number of hospitalized patients has increased, and the case fatality rate has risen to 0.47%. Inadequate mosquito control measures, plenty of vector breeding sites, and a lack of public awareness have worsened the situation. Routine spraying of effective insecticides in high‐risk zones, regular inspection of potential mosquito breeding sites, and public awareness campaigns are the keys to limiting the spread of this virus. Also, the availability of detection kits, improved hospital settings, and trained health professionals are mandatory to keep disease fatalities under control. Conclusion Dengue fever is a preventable disease. The successful development of a competent vaccine is now a prime need for preventing any future upsurge of the disease. Also, we recommend public awareness, vector control activities, and global collaboration to prevent spread.

Abstract Background and Aims Disease X is included to represent an unknown pathogen that has the potential to spread globally and trigger significant epidemics. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI) recommend 10 potential disease organisms responsible for disease X. Among them, the Zika virus (ZIKV) is one of the potential organisms. The present work aimed to evaluate the current pathogenicity and potential risk of the ZIKV for public health emergencies. Methods We performed a brief review of existing literature from available sources using Zika fever, Zika virus, and Flaviviridae as keywords and extracted relevant information for this review. Results The primary way that the ZIKV transmits to humans is by mosquito bites (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus). Typically, Aedes mosquitoes bite during the day. As an RNA virus, the ZIKV is well‐known for its rapid mutation rate. ZIKV strains or variations can arise due to genomic mutations, and they occur through various processes, including replication errors, recombination, and selection pressure. Nowadays, the ZIKV has also evolved into a global pandemic because the four‐amino acid sequence fits the envelope protein's 154 glycosylation motif, which may be involved in virulence. Conclusion There is no specific medicine or vaccine available for the prevention or treatment of ZIKV infection. Therefore, personal protective measures should be the way to prevent ZIKV disease. Therefore, avoiding exposure is the best way to prevent problems from ZIKV to mosquitoes.

Introduction Monkeypox (mpox) is an evolving infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV). On July 23, 2022, the WHO declared the recent mpox outbreaks a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), which terminated on May 11, 2023. As of July 11, 2023, 88,288 confirmed cases and 149 deaths have been reported from 112 countries and territories. Currently, mpox is not a PHEIC, as the outbreak and its impacts are nearly over. Nurses played significant roles during the mpox 2022 outbreak as frontline workers. Purpose In light of the impending mpox global outbreak in 2022, this brief report provides an update on the enormous difficulties faced by frontline nurses while playing a crucial role in handling the mpox outbreak and some potential solutions to these difficulties. The methodological framework employed in this narrative brief report involves conducting a comprehensive analysis and synthesis of relevant literature and hypothetical scenarios. The aim is to put forth practical strategies that can effectively tackle the difficulties encountered by frontline nurses in the context of the mpox outbreak. Additionally, the report seeks to envision a healthcare system that is more resilient in the face of future challenges. Conclusion It is important to understand the challenges the nurses face from their perspective. As frontline health care workers, the various health issues of nurses and their concerns must be taken care of appropriately by adopting optimum health service practices, adequate safety measures, recommended precautionary measures, and boosting them mentally while handling mpox patients. Counseling and the arrangement of workshops are required. Appropriate care should be taken to address the various health issues concerning nurses by adopting health service practices at optimum levels. Side by side, recommended safety and precautionary measures should be followed.

The study was conducted to determine the inclusion effect of Spirulina platensis as a feed supplement on growth performance, feed efficiency, body composition, haematology, immune response, and gut microflora of the stinging catfish (Heteropneustes fossilis). Five iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic diets were prepared by replacing fish meal (FM) with S. platensis at a rate of 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10% and referred to as control, SP2.5, SP5, SP7.5, and SP10 diets, respectively. Three replicate groups of fish (average weight of 0.75 g) were reared in glass aquaria (180 L water capacity) and fed with each of the experimental diets up to satiation level twice a day, 7 days a week for 70 days. At termination, growth performance, carcass composition, immune parameters, and gut microflora were assessed. Moreover, ten fish from each aquarium were challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila and cumulative mortality was recorded for 15 days. Significantly (P < 0.05) higher weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR, % day−1), lower feed conversion ratio (FCR), and higher protein efficiency ratio (PER) were recorded in fish fed with SP7.5 and SP10 diets compared to control. Dietary S. platensis inclusion at 7.5–10% levels significantly (P < 0.05) boosted the whole-body protein and ash contents of stinging catfish, while decreasing the lipid and moisture contents compared to the control. Haematological parameters significantly (P < 0.05) improved in the S. platensis supplemented diet compared to the control. Serum lysozyme activity of fish fed with SP7.5 and SP10 diet was significantly (P < 0.05) higher compared to all other diets. Higher inclusion of S. platensis lowered post-challenge mortality and the lowest cumulative mortality (30%) was recorded in fish fed with the SP7.5 diet compared to the control (70%). Pseudomonas, Lactobacillus, and Lentibacillus were the prevalent genera in the gut microbiota found in the metagenomics study and the abundances of the above microbiota gradually increased with the level of dietary S. platensis inclusion. Based on the findings of the study, 7.5–10% inclusion of S. platensis was the most recommendable in stinging catfish diet to improve growth performance, feed utilization, body composition, haematology, immunological response, and gut microbiology. However, based on the regression analysis the optimum inclusion level of S. platensis as a feed supplement was calculated to be 9.3–9.9% in stinging catfish.

Abstract Background Dengue, the world's fastest‐growing vector‐borne disease, has skyrocketed in the 21st century. Dengue has harmed human health since its first known cases among Spanish soldiers in the Philippines to its 21st‐century outbreaks in Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and the Americas. In light of the current circumstances, it is imperative to investigate its origin and prevalence, enabling the implementation of effective interventions to curb the upsurge. Methods Our study examines the history of dengue outbreaks, and evolving impact on public health, aiming to offer valuable insights for a more resilient public health response worldwide. In this comprehensive review, we incorporated data from renowned databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus to provide a thorough analysis of dengue outbreaks. Results Recent dengue outbreaks are associated with rapid urbanization, international travel, climatic change, and socioeconomic factors. Rapid urbanization and poor urban design and sanitation have created mosquito breeding places for dengue vectors. Also, international travel and trade have spread the pathogen. Climate change in the past two decades has favored mosquito habitats and outbreaks. Socioeconomic differences have also amplified the impact of dengue outbreaks on vulnerable communities. Dengue mitigation requires vector control, community engagement, healthcare strengthening, and international cooperation. Conclusion Climate change adaptation and urban planning are crucial. Although problems remain, a comprehensive vector control and community involvement plan may reduce dengue epidemics and improve public health in our interconnected world.

This investigation was done to determine how much zinc (Zn) the stinging catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis, needs in its diet. Five isonitrogenous (34.5% protein) and isolipidic (6.0% lipid) diets were prepared to contain graded levels of Zn (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 mg kg−1), supplied as zinc sulfate (ZnSO4·7H2O), and referred to as Zn0, Zn10, Zn20, Zn30, and Zn40, respectively. A total of 600 fish (initial body weight: 1.41 ± 0.02 g) were stocked in 15 glass aquaria (40 fish/aquarium), each with 180 L water capacity. For ten weeks, each diet was hand fed to three groups of fish twice daily until they appeared satisfied. The highest weight gain and specific growth rate, and lowest feed conversion ratio were recorded in fish fed with a 30 mg Zn kg−1 diet. Zn contents in bone and muscle linearly increased up to 30 mg kg−1 Zn and then remained stable, while iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) contents in bone and muscle had an inverse pattern with the inclusion level of dietary Zn. Increasing dietary Zn levels up to 30 mg kg−1 was found to improve values of hematological parameters such as red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), haemoglobin (Hb), and haematocrit (HCT). These values, however, decreased when the dietary Zn level was further increased. The serum alkaline phosphatase level was the highest in fish fed a diet containing 30 mg kg-1 of Zn. Regression analyses based on weight gain, specific growth rate, and bone and muscle Zn concentrations indicated that the optimum dietary Zn requirement for stinging catfish was in a range of 27.4–36.5 mg kg−1.

Abstract Background and Aims Diabetes is recognized as a significant factor in both mortality and morbidity worldwide, affecting various demographics regardless of geographic location, age group, or gender. This correspondence aims to express concern and draw the attention of leaders and policymakers worldwide to this critical public health issue. Methods A thorough literature search was conducted utilizing various databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) website, to collect the required data. Keywords were strategically applied to enhance search results, with preference given to English‐language articles containing pertinent information. Results According to the 2021 report by the IDF, approximately 537 million individuals globally were affected with diabetes, constituting roughly 10.5% of the world's populace. This condition incurred healthcare expenditures totaling $966 billion. Projections indicate a surge in diabetes cases to 783 million by 2045, with associated healthcare costs estimated to surpass $1054 billion. However, almost half of all people with diabetes are unaware of their medical condition, with the highest prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes Mellitus (DM) found in low and middle‐income countries (LMICs) of the regions of Africa, the Western Pacific, and Southeast Asia. Conclusion Collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO), LMIC governments should improve healthcare accessibility, including more frequent diabetes screenings for individuals aged ≥ 45 years and younger individuals at elevated risk of having a family history.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defined Disease X as an upcoming disease with the potential to cause a pandemic. Pathogen X is responsible for Disease X. Marburg virus disease (MVD) is one of the diseases from the priority disease list published by WHO. Marburg virus is a filamentous, negative-sense RNA virus that belongs to the same filovirus family as the lethal Ebola virus. Since the first discovery of this virus in 1967, 17 outbreaks occurred sporadically till 2023. Rousettus aegyptiacus acts as the natural reservoir of the virus. With an average incubation period of 5 to 10 days, its first target is the mononuclear phagocytic system cells. It is highly contagious and can be easily transmitted from animal to human and human to human via direct contact with blood or body fluid, feces, and semen of the infected host. Although Marburg disease has a high case fatality rate of close to 90%, unfortunately, there is no approved vaccines or treatments are available. The most recent outbreak of Marburg virus in Equatorial Guinea and Tanzania in 2023 caused an alert for global health. However, based on the last global pandemic of COVID-19 and the sudden re-emerging of monkeypox around the world, we can assume that the Marburg virus has the potential to cause a global pandemic. Our modern world depends on globalization, which helps the virus transmission among countries. The Marburg virus can easily be transmitted to humans by fruit bats of the Pteropodidae family. This virus causes severe hemorrhagic disease, and there are no specific vaccines and treatments available to combat it. Therefore, community engagement and early supportive care for patients are keys to successfully controlling MVD.

This research was conducted to assess the scope and impact of the conversion of croplands into agroforestry orchards considering characterizing agroforestry growers, identify challenges they face during the transition process, and gather their recommended strategies to address these challenges.The investigation took place in Sadar and Biral upazila within Dinajpur district of northern part of Bangladesh. To establish a sample group, an updated roster of total 266 agroforestry growers was procured from the respective Upazila Agriculture Offices. Using a simple random sampling method, 80 growers were selected for participation in this study. Data was gathered through structured and pretested interview schedules administered to respondents between April 15th and May 15th, 2022. The study evaluated ten key attributes of agroforestry growers, encompassing factors like age, educational background, farm size, farming experience, family income, extension network engagement, agricultural knowledge, innovation inclination, marketing orientation, and technological attitude. The central focus of the study centered on the transition from croplands to agroforestry orchards. The study revealed that over the period spanning 1990 to 2022, agroforestry farmers in the study region converted cropland into orchards with varying extents, ranging from 13 % to 19.83 %. The substitution of predominant crops such as rice, maize, and wheat, along with minor crops like potatoes, vegetables, mustard, garlic, turmeric, and napier grass, marked the transition to agroforestry practices. Evaluating the consequences of this transition, approximately 60.00 % of growers perceived medium-level impacts on economic aspects, while 70.00 %, 61.25 %, and 58.75 % alleged the effects on environmental conditions, household food security, and social status, respectively as also moderately. Among the challenges faced during this shift, the most prominent was the difficulty in obtaining fair prices due to intermediary involvement. Conversely, elevated production costs were regarded as a lesser concern. Respondents put forth a variety of solutions, with the primary recommendation being the organization of enhanced training programs for farmers on scientific agroforestry systems management. In contrast, the concept of fostering appropriate coordination among agroforestry practitioners garnered less attention as a potential solution. Therefore, for farmer's enhanced benefit as well as for better environmental outputs and food security, agroforestry product marketing strategy should be strengthening using site specific policy and program.

Abstract Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental condition that affects many people and is characterized by recurring obsessions and compulsions. It significantly impacts individuals’ ability to function ordinarily daily, affecting people of all ages. This study aimed to investigate whether or not the cytokines granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) are involved in the pathophysiology of OCD. A case–control study with 50 OCD patients and 38 healthy volunteers served as the controls for this investigation. The levels of GM-CSF and IL-17 in the serum of both groups were measured with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. In addition, the sociodemographic characteristics of the population under study were studied. Based on the findings of this study, OCD patients had significantly elevated levels of IL-17 than the controls, it appears that there may be a function for IL-17 in the pathophysiology of OCD. It was also discovered that the severity of OCD and IL-17 levels had a significant positive correlation. On the other hand, when comparing the levels of GM-CSF, there was no significant difference between the patients and the controls. This study provides evidence supporting the involvement of cytokine IL-17 in the pathophysiology of OCD. This study suggests IL-17 as a diagnostic biomarker for OCD and adds to our knowledge of the function that the immune system plays in this condition.

Abstract Background Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a common mental ailment and is the primary reason for disability. It manifests a severe impact on moods, thoughts, and physical health. At present, this disorder has become a concern in the field of public health. Alteration of neurochemicals is thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of many psychiatric disorders. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate serum IL-3 and lipocalin-2 in MDD patients and healthy controls (HCs). Method We included a total of 376 participants in this study. Among them, 196 were MDD patients, and 180 were age-sex-matched HCs. MDD patients were recruited from the Psychiatry Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), but the controls were from different parts of Dhaka. All study participants were evaluated by a psychiatrist using the DSM-5 criteria. To assess the severity of the depression, we used the Hamilton depression (Ham-D) rating scale. Serum IL-3 and lipocalin-2 levels were measured using commercially available enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay kits (ELISA kits). Results According to this study, we observed elevated serum levels of IL-3 (1,024.73 ± 29.84 pg/mL) and reduced levels of serum lipocalin-2 (29.019 ± 2.073 ng/mL) in MDD patients compared to HCs (911.11 ± 20.55 pg/mL and 48.065 ± 3.583 ng/mL, respectively). No associations between serum levels of IL-3 and lipocalin-2 and depression severity were observed in patients. Conclusions According to the present findings, alterations of serum IL-3 and lipocalin might be associated with the pathogenesis of MDD. These results support that altered serum neurochemicals can serve as early risk assessment markers for depression. Further interventional studies are recommended for a better understanding of the role of IL-3 and lipocalin-2 in the pathophysiology of depression.

Abstract This study was conducted to determine the growth performance, body composition, and haematological profile of Heteropneustes fossilis in response to the replacement of fish meal (FM) by sunflower meal (SFM). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The fish (initial average body weight of 2.42 ± 0.01 g) were reared in 15 glass aquaria (40 fish/aquarium) with a 150‐L water capacity. Five isoproteic (35%) diets were prepared by replacing FM protein with SFM protein at a rate of 0% (T0), 10% (T10), 20% (T20), 30% (T30), and 40% (T40). Fish were fed with experimental diet twice a day (9.00 and 16.00), 7 days a week for 8 weeks. Fish were sampled at the end of the experimental period of 8 weeks. At the end of the rearing period, the highest weight gain (6.25 ± 0.11g), % weight gain (163.32%), and specific growth rate (1.61 ± 0.03%/day) were observed in the control (T0) treatment, but the difference was not significant (p > 0.05) with T10 and T20 treatments. However, all the growth factors were decreased with the further inclusion level of SFM in replacement of FM, and the lowest growth performance was observed in T40 treatment. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) followed the same pattern as the growth parameters. It was found that the whole‐body proximate composition of fish was also affected significantly (p < 0.05). Haematological parameters significantly (P < 0.05) altered at 30% and 40% levels of replacement of FM with SFM. Based on these results, it can be concluded that 20% FM protein can be substituted with SFM protein in the diet of H. fossilis without compromising growth performance, feed utilization, chemical composition, and haematological status. However, according to polynomial regression analysis, the optimum level of replacement of FM protein with SFM protein was determined to be 14.3% in the diet of H. fossilis.

Abstract Background ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) language model that has gained popularity as a virtual assistant because of its exceptional capacity to solve problems and make decisions. However, there are some ways in which technological misuse and incorrect interpretations can have potentially hazardous consequences for a user's mental health. Discussion Because it lacks real‐time fact‐checking capabilities, ChatGPT may create misleading or erroneous information. Considering AI technology has the potential to influence a person's thinking, we anticipate ChatGPT's future repercussions on mental health by considering instances in which inappropriate usage may lead to mental disorders. While several studies have demonstrated how the AI model may transform mental health care and therapy, certain drawbacks, including bias and privacy violations, have also been identified. Conclusion Educating people and organizing workshops on AI technology usage, strengthening privacy measures, and updating ethical standards are crucial initiatives to prevent misuse and resultant dire impacts on mental health. Longitudinal research on the potential of these platforms to impact a variety of mental health problems is recommended in the future.

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional silicon solar cells due to their low cost of fabrication and high power conversion efficiency (PCE). The utilization of lead halide perovskites as absorber layers in perovskite solar cells has been impeded by two major issues: lead poisoning and stability concerns. These hindrances have greatly impeded the industrialization of this cutting-edge technology. In light of the harmful effects of lead in perovskite solar cells, researchers have shifted their attention to exploring lead-free metal halide perovskites. However, the present alternatives to lead-based perovskite exhibit poor performance, thus prompting further inquiry into this matter. The primary objective of this research is to investigate the use of Cu2O as a hole transport layer in combination with lead-free metal halide perovskite (CsSn0.5Ge0.5I3) to achieve superior performance. Through meticulous experimentation, the suggested model has achieved outstanding results by optimizing several key variables. These variables include the thickness of the absorber layer (CsSn0.5Ge0.5I3), defect density, and doping densities, as well as the back contact work function and the operating temperature associated with each layer. The proposed FTO/PC60BM/CsSn0.5Ge0.5I3/Cu2O/Au solar cell structure surpassed prior configurations by comprehensively examining key aspects such as absorber layer thickness and defect density, doping densities, and back contact work. The structure has been also compared with multiple electron transport elements and concluded that the proposed model functions superior due to the use of PC60BM as an electron transport layer and it has an improved electron extraction procedure. Finally, the proposed model has achieved the optimized values as Jsc of 31.56 mA/cm-2, Voc of 1.12 V, FF of 81.47%, and PCE of 27.72%. As a consequence of this research, the investigated structure may be an excellent contender for the eventual creation of lead-free solar power cells made from perovskite.

A comprehensive literature search related to AI in healthcare was performed in the PubMed database and retrieved the relevant information from suitable ones. AI excels in aspects such as rapid adaptation, high diagnostic accuracy, and data management that can help improve workforce productivity. With this potential in sight, the FDA has continuously approved more machine learning (ML) software to be used by medical workers and scientists. However, there are few controversies such as increased chances of data breaches, concern for clinical implementation, and potential healthcare dilemmas. In this article, the positive and negative aspects of AI implementation in healthcare are discussed, as well as recommended some potential solutions to the potential issues at hand.

The provision and planning for healthcare delivery in conflict is a pressing imperative. Healthcare within these environments is naturally complex, given the entanglement of affected populations, militaries and oft-deteriorating public services. The field of digital health, placed at the intersection of healthcare and technology, has the power to revolutionize healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes worldwide. Its impact is particularly significant in conflict zones, where it can address the unique challenges faced by these regions. Violence, damaged infrastructure, restricted mobility, forced migration, and overstretched healthcare facilities are all hallmarks of conflict zones that demand novel approaches to addressing them. Health care delivery is being revolutionized by the introduction of digital health technology in conflict zones, which are improving access, emergency response capacities, health information management, and mental health assistance. Doctors and aid organizations can more easily overcome challenges and reach out to underserved populations in these regions because to digital technological improvements. Recent decades have seen a shift in the nature of conflict, and with it, a corresponding shift in the range of digital health solutions available to address geographical, epidemiological, and clinical gaps. The purpose of this letter is to inquire into the application of digital health in conflict zones and its potential to lessen the pressing healthcare needs of affected communities.

Background: Previous studies have suggested the involvement of an activated inflammatory process in major depressive disorder (MDD), as altered expression of inflammatory cytokines is observed in depression. This alteration can be the cause or a consequence of MDD. However, acknowledging inflammatory cytokines as prospective biomarkers would aid in diagnosing or guiding better therapeutic options. Therefore, we designed this study to assess the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in depression. Method: We collected blood samples from 115 MDD patients and 113 healthy controls (HCs) matched by age and sex. MDD patients were diagnosed by a qualified psychiatrist based on the symptoms mentioned in the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM-5). The risk evaluation of natural disasters is an obstacle to ensuring healthcare services during catastrophic events worldwide. Therefore, timely and appropriate environmental health risk evaluation is essential. In this study, we incorporated the information from databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. We performed this study to explore the feasibility of using artificial intelligence (AI) in disaster risk and emergency health management. Natural disasters have some phenomenon that is bound to happen. So, we can use AI to inform healthcare authorities about environmental health risks and emergency medical management. The recent innovations in technology have created novel opportunities for improving healthcare services across the world. AI technology would be the backbone of the fourth industrial revolution because we are entering an AI-based world this decade. Therefore, we suggest the authorities consider this positive aspect of AI technology to minimize the disastrous outcomes of any catastrophic events.

The experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to evaluate the yield of boro rice influenced by transplanting systems and different weed management practices. The experiment comprised two transplanting systems viz., (ⅰ) puddled transplanted rice (PTR) and (ⅱ) zero till non-puddled transplanted rice (ZT-NPTR) and five weed management practices viz., (ⅰ) weedy, (ⅱ) weed free, (ⅲ) farmers' practice (3 manual weeding), (ⅳ) application of pre-emergence herbicide Pretilachlor, and (ⅴ) application of post-emergence herbicide Penoxsulam. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. Twelve weed species belonging to four families infested the experimental plots. Transplanting systems and weed management practices exerted significant influence on yield attributes and yield of boro rice. At 60 days after transplanting (DAT), maximum weed dry biomass (184.11 g m-2) was found in weedy practices of ZT-NPTR, while the highest weed density (143 no. m-2) was obtained from the weedy plots of PTR. The highest number of effective tillers hill-1 (15.60), grains panicle-1 (125), 1000-grain weight (22.50g), grain (4.78 t ha-1) and straw (5.16 t ha-1) yield was obtained from the weed free plots of PTR. The grain yield was at par with pre- and post-emergence herbicide applied plots of PTR, and farmers' practice and post-emergence herbicide applied plots of ZT NPTR. The maximum gross return (185650 Tk. ha-1), net return (79833 Tk. ha-1) and BCR (1.75) were obtained from the application of post-emergence herbicide Penoxsulam in ZT-NPTR system compared to other practices. Although, maximum grain yield was obtained from PTR under weed free condition, in terms of both grain yield and economic view point ZT-NPTR with post-emergence herbicide application might be an alternative way for sustainable crop production and weed management practices. Electroencephalography (EEG) is effectively employed to describe cognitive patterns corresponding to different tasks of motor functions for brain–computer interface (BCI) implementation. Explicit information processing is necessary to reduce the computational complexity of practical BCI systems. This paper presents an entropy-based approach to select effective EEG channels for motor imagery (MI) classification in brain–computer interface (BCI) systems. The method identifies channels with higher entropy scores, which is an indication of greater information content. It discards redundant or noisy channels leading to reduced computational complexity and improved classification accuracy. High entropy means a more disordered pattern, whereas low entropy means a less disordered pattern with less information. The entropy of each channel for individual trials is calculated. The weight of each channel is represented by the mean entropy of the channel over all the trials. A set of channels with higher mean entropy are selected as effective channels for MI classification. A limited number of sub-band signals are created by decomposing the selected channels. To extract the spatial features, the common spatial pattern (CSP) is applied to each sub-band space of EEG signals. The CSP-based features are used to classify the right-hand and right-foot MI tasks using a support vector machine (SVM). The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated using two publicly available EEG datasets, known as BCI competition III–IV(A) and BCI competition IV–I. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach surpasses cutting-edge techniques.

Abstract Background and Aims The number of social media users is growing with each passing day at full tilt, keeping pace with digitalization and technological advances. Despite several advantages, there are also certain negative aspects to using social networking sites (SNS) for communication, amusement, self‐expression, impression management, and other purposes. This study sought to investigate the association between mental health status and flaunting behaviors in social media among the general population in Bangladesh. Methods We conducted this nationwide cross‐sectional online survey among 465 people aged between 18 and 60 between October 15, 2021 and January 15, 2022. Following electronic consent, we collected the socio‐demographic profiles and psychometric parameters of the respondents. Additionally, we assessed the diverse perspectives on SNS usage and its relationship to the self‐reported symptoms of depression and loneliness. Results The estimated prevalence of loneliness and depressive symptoms were 65.16% (mild: 39.57%, moderate: 16.56%, severe: 9.03%) and 55.49% (mild: 26.67%, moderate: 22.15%, severe: 6.67%), respectively. Key factors associated with flaunting on social media were mental health issues such as depression and loneliness. Several social factors were also considered, such as being young, of the male sex, unmarried, illiterate, a student, urban dwelling, average economic status, nuclear family structure, types of SNSs, checking social media first in the morning, and the use of SNS for gaining popularity. Conclusion A significant portion of SNS users reported symptoms of mental illness. Current study findings urge for longitudinal studies with larger sample sizes to have a nearly equal distribution of users from each social media platform for in‐depth exploration of how user attitudes about SNSs and site usage patterns impact the general public's mental health. We suggest that regulating SNS usage patterns and treatment approaches would improve the situation.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the pharmacological efficacy of 3 functional foods (Water spinach, Wood apple, and Linseed) against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity and oxidative stress in rat models. Methods: Twenty-five Wistar Albino rats (male and female) were equally classified into 5 groups. Except for the normal control (NC) group, the animals received 2.5 mg/kg doxorubicin (DOX) intra-peritoneal injection at 48 hours intervals to create a dose of 15 mg/kg overall for 14 days. Simply a standard diet was given to the NC and DOX groups. In the 3 treatment groups such as water spinach (DOX + WS), wood apple (DOX + WA), and linseed (DOX + LS), rats were given 14 gm/day/rat fried water spinach, mashed wood apple, roasted linseed, respectively mixed with regular rat diet at 1:1 ratio. Blood and heart samples were collected by sacrificing all the rats on the last of the experiment day (the 15 th day). LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), CK-MB (creatine kinase myocardial band), MDA (malondialdehyde), and SOD (superoxide dismutase) were analyzed. Additionally, histopathological analysis was conducted for final observation. Results: The functional foods were indicated to lower the serum cardiac biomarkers (LDH and CK-MB) as well as stress marker (MDA) significantly ( P .05). The biochemical outcomes of the food intervention groups were supported by the histological findings found in those groups. Conclusion: Consuming the investigated foods containing antioxidant phytochemicals may combat cardiac toxicity and oxidative stress. Nonetheless, thorough investigations and clinical monitoring are required to understand these functional foods’ mechanism of action and dose-response effects in treating cardiotoxicity and oxidative stress.
