PurposeThe aim of the current study is to examine the effect of health consciousness, perceived consumer effectiveness and ethical self-identity on customers green purchase intention and actual behavior through an antecedent–focus–outcome relationship in the context of Bangladesh.Design/methodology/approachFor this study, research design was cross sectional and self-administered questionnaire was used for collecting data from the sample respondents. Primary data for this current study were collected from the segment termed as “millennium generation” which consists of young adults between the ages of 18–39 years. Sample technique of this study was judgmental, and a part of non-probability sampling was used for data collection. Statistical tools like SPSS and partial least square (PLS) were employed for the study to examine the impact of the constructs on green purchase intention and behavior.FindingsAfter analyzing the data, the empirical findings obtained via smart Partial Least Square (PLS) approach confirmed out that all the four factors have significant positive relationship with green purchase intention which is also positively related with actual purchase behavior regarding ecological food products.Research limitations/implicationsThe result of the current study provides better understanding and information for the organizations to give more emphasis on the association of health consciousness, ethical self-identity and perceived consumer effectiveness with green purchase intention and actual behavior. The present study will assist as a guide to provide several implications and recommendations to organizations, business owners, academicians and policymakers aiming to encourage green products adoption rate thereby reducing natural degradation and increasing environmental sustainability.Originality/valueThis research establishes the findings that more concentration should be given to enhance ecological consumption and environmental awareness to achieve environmental sustainability and ecological balance in Bangladesh and all other developing countries. The outcomes of the study also contribute to the existing literature by adding new insights to customers' environmental concern and green consumption behavior in the context of Bangladesh.

The objectives of this study were to assess and describe some selected characteristics of the sweet potato farmers, to determine the extent of performance of farmers on sweet potato cultivation; to explore the relationship between the selected characteristics of the farmers with performance of different sweet potato varieties and to compare severity of the problem of the performance of different sweet potato varieties. The survey was conducted on 102 randomly selected farmers in four upazilas of bangladas in four districts. We collected data from respondents from January 20, 2019 to February 20, 2019, using a pre-tested interview schedule. The performance of various sweet potato cultivars was the dependent variable, which was measured by variables measured based on tonnes of yield per hectare. Farmers' achievements in sweet potato cultivation were measured by performance. We selected 11 characteristics of the performance of various sweet potato varieties and the respondents' relationships to the independent variables of the survey. The majority of sweet potato varieties (61.8%) had moderate performance and 20.6% had poor performance. Five characteristics of the respondents, namely. Knowledge of education, training, tolerance, exposure to expansion, and cultivation of sweet potatoes was significantly positively associated with the performance of various sweet potato cultivars. However, age, family size, sweet potato acreage, BCR, commercialization, and sweet potato cultivation issues were not significantly associated with the performance of various sweet potato cultivars.

Digitization in the power industry enables wide connectivity among multiple new entrants such as DERs, prosumers, and P2P counterparts within or outside the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). The use of DLT to improve resilience in the power grid has growing support, but new technology provides new opportunities for adversaries to cause harm. This work completed by the Cybersecurity focused task force of IEEE SA P2418.5 evaluates the potential risks by applying the MITRE ATT&CK ICS matrix to the DLT Engineering and Cybersecurity Stack designed for power systems applications.

Protection systems are one of the most critical components in the transmission system and are becoming more digital with ongoing automation. These digital systems are prone to vulnerabilities/attacks, and exploitation of these vulnerabilities may cause major impacts on the electric grid performance. Multiple alarms reported in the control center could be a result of the faults (expected operations) or failures in the protection system (anomalies/ unexpected operation). Situational awareness gained through sensors such as a phasor measurement unit (PMU) and data acquired through the cyber system provide an opportunity to develop continuous cyber-physical monitoring of the system. Note that relay data are not reported in the control center continuously. This paper presents a cyber-physical data analytics based technique to monitor transmission protection system and detect malicious activity. Initially, continuous monitoring of PMU data is utilized for data anomaly detection, which includes bad or missing data using long short-term memory (LSTM). Then, PMU data of interest are utilized for failure diagnosis, using a semisupervised deep autoencoder model. In this research, cyber anomalies are modeled by manipulating the setting/logic design of protective devices, and a ridge regression based classifier with a feature engineering pipeline is used to detect cyber anomalies. The results from the deep autoencoder model and ridge regression based classifier are then utilized for detailed investigation to find the root causes of the observed events assisted by the cyber log data from the protection devices. The algorithm is validated using a real-time simulation of the IEEE test system with industrial hardware relays and PMUs in the loop. Data analytics algorithm running on server utilizes these real-time data continuously for anomaly detection and classification for the developed use cases.

The aim at the study is to examine the annual price fluctuation, and acreage response of rice in Bangladesh using the time series data for the period 1981-82 to 2010-11. Acreage response was estimated within the Nerlovian Partial Adjustment Model. The study estimates the growth rate of the area, production, yield and nominal price of rice and annual fluctuation on nominal and real prices of all the three rice seasons. The study was based on secondary data. Price fluctuation of Aus rice for nominal and real price was highest (-26.6 to 46.9) and (-29.4 to 37.2) in sub-period II (1991-92 to 2000-01). The fluctuation in nominal and real price of Aman rice was also highest (-27.0 to 40.7) and (-29.7 to 29.2) in the sub-period II (1991-92 to 2000-01). The fluctuation in nominal and real Boro rice price was also highest (-48.5 to 28.5) and (-34.4 to 28.4) in the sub-period II (1991-92 to 2000-01). Growth rates of area, production, yield and nominal price of three seasons of rice were estimated by fitting exponential trend function. Growth rates of area which were significantly negative for Aus, Aman that were -4.6 percent and -0.3 percent and positive for Boro rice it was 4.5 percent over the whole period. The growth rates of yield for Aus, Aman, and Boro were increased significantly at the rate of 2.2, 1.9 and 1.9 percent respectively during the entire time period. Farmer’s field-oriented policy should be developed for high yield and stable market.

Coastal ecosystems support enormous natural resources which are major sources of livelihoods and income generation for a major part of the global population. With this growing dependency coupled with the continued destruction (from both global climate change and human interventions), coastal resources are facing unprecedented threats of deterioration thus limiting the valuable ecosystem services that support all sorts of human welfare. Taking Saint Martin’s Island as a case study, this paper investigates the potential vulnerabilities which persist as negative forces in managing the available coastal resources in an integrated as well as sustainable way. In addition, this paper suggests a people oriented coastal resource management framework incorporating all aspects of vulnerabilities.

This research report aims to explore the factors of experiential marketing to determine their impact on customer satisfaction in the restaurant industry of Bangladesh. Three Hypotheses were developed by the researcher to identify the factors of experiential marketing and their impact on overall customer satisfaction. The research study is conducted by a quantitative research approach to get the insights and understandings of experiential marketing and to figure out the strength of association between dependent and independent variables. Empirical data was gathered by the author himself from 150 respondents who were present in the restaurants at that time through the self-administered survey questionnaire. By applying a convenience sampling method, the researcher collected data from the respondents under different clusters. Researcher used regression and factor analysis to analyze the statistical data through the SPSS software. The research concluded with the significant positive relationships of sense experience, feel experience, and think experience with customer satisfaction. The outcome of the study will assist managers, restaurant owners and, decision makers with the insights and understanding of experiential marketing and its influence on customer satisfaction.

A cross-sectional study was carried out in Dumki Upazila of Patuakhali district in Bangladesh to assess the prevalence of stunting, wasting and underweight among the under-five children. Anthropometric measurements were taken from all children, aged 0-59 months in the studied area using wooden height board and digital weight machine. We used WHO Anthro software for analyzing the z scores of the children. A total of 4409 (2296 boys and 2113 girls) under five children were counted for anthropometric analysis. Regarding the Height-for-age Z-score (HAZ), the study revealed that the prevalence of stunting was 27.10% (95% CI: 25.8-28.5) of the children while 7.80% (95% CI: 7-8.6) were severe stunting. By assessing the Weight-for-height Z-score (WHZ), the study showed that 11.20% (95% CI: 10.3-12.1) were wasting whereas 3% (95% CI 2.5-3.5) were severe wasting. According to Weight-for-age Z-score (WAZ), about 18.20% (95% CI: 17-19.3) were underweight and 4.1% (95% CI: 3.5-4.7) were underweight. The findings of the study show that prevalence of stunting is very high. Focusing on childhood stunting is a high priority, and there should be comprehensive efforts to increase the overall nutritional status of the under-five children in this area.

Based on the extensive literature review, this study aims to investigate the impact of green perceived value and perceived consumer effectiveness on customers’ green hotel visit intention in the hotel industry of Bangladesh. Simultaneously, the current study intends to explore the influence of environmental knowledge as a moderator. A random sample survey of 265 usable hotel customers was used to test and verify the conceptual framework. The findings of study revealed that green perceived value and perceived consumer effectiveness positively influence customers’ green hotel visit intention, whereas, environmental knowledge was found insignificant moderator variable. The outcome of the study will assist the academicians, policy makers and industry professionals with a better understanding of customer green purchase intention. Therefore, the study will contribute to the development of effective green marketing practices and strategies to enhance customer green purchase intention in the hospitality and tourism industry in Bangladesh.

The main purpose of this study was to explore the effects of Spirulina (Spirulina platensis) as a feed supplement by replacing Vitamin-Mineral Premix on the performance of broiler. For developing finishing methods and broadening their assortment, the research has explored raising and sueding methods in order to find out how these two finishing processes affect the aesthetic, dimensional and functional properties of dyed knitted fabric. In this work, three types of sample fabrics namely three thread fleece or Chief Value Cotton (CVC) fleece, two thread terry or organic fleece and 2x2 rib were used. CVC fleece was produced from yarns of count 30 Ne and 20 Ne respectively. Organic fleece and 2x2 rib were produced from 100% cotton. In this task, we studied six aspects of test results viz. the GSM test, shrinkage test, bursting strength test, spirality test, pilling test and Color fastness to wash. In addition, Wales per Inch (WPI), Course per Inch (CPI), stitch length, stitch density, course length was taken into consideration. The testing procedures were performed meticulously under ideal testing standards. The test results affirm significant effects regarding GSM, shrinkage, bursting and spirality test. No variation of pilling and color fastness of samples subjected to raising and seuding was noted.

This study was conducted at coastal Char Montaz in Rangabali Upazila at Patuakhali district of Bangladesh. Char Montaz is vulnerable to different types of destructive disasters due to its geographic location. Disasters such as floods, river bank erosion, cyclone, tornado, hail storm, water logging, salinity intrusion etc. are gradually intensifying by climate change and composing risks for the coastal people in Char Montaz. The study is concerned with climate change related risks and hazards that affects the inhabitant’s livelihood of the study area. The study findings demonstrated that the climate change has affected the 70% people’s agricultural livelihood in many ways. It has also created a state of unemployment among the people of coastal communities. As a result, the affected people are losing their means of livelihoods and forced to take several alternative means of livelihoods to cope with the adverse impact of climate change related disasters. The study identifies the livelihood adaptation strategies adapted by the affected communities in Char Montaz area. The present paper exhibits that the coastal community people try to solve their problems through adopting and exploring alternative employments.

Global climate change is growing threat to lives and livelihoods on earth where the developing countries are highly exposed to climatic variations. Due to a unique geographical location Bangladesh is one of the worst affected countries by climate induced hazards. Coastal region of the country experiences numerous adverse pressures resulting from these natural phenomenon. Long term changes in climatic parameters such as temperature, rainfall, humidity creates extra pressure of climate change impact. Agriculture of coastal area is one of the most vulnerable sectors to climatic hazards. The current study was conducted to assess the major climatic hazards and impacts on cropping pattern at Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali District of Bangladesh. The study was designed mainly to identify the latest sustainable change gradually adopted by local farmers in their cropping pattern as the coping strategy. Methodology followed was the consideration of farmers’ perception and field based data collection including Questionnaire Survey, Focus Group Discussion and personal observation. Major climatic hazards including sea level rise, salinity intrusion, cyclone with storm surge, tidal surge, coastal inundation, erratic rainfall and riverbank erosion were found predominant in the study area. However farmers identified salinity intrusion, cyclone, storm surge, tidal surge and erratic rainfall as most common and severe constrains to crop production practices. Previously practiced cropping pattern and season has been changed responding towards climatic variations. Cultivation of some crops has been increased while some other has been decreased. Some varieties of crops including jute, sesame, and sugarcane are going to be extinct because of salinization. Farmers need technical and logistic support to minimize the impact of climatic hazards impact to protect the loss of crop production. Dissemination of salinity tolerant varieties, some structural and non-structural mitigation and adaptation measures can be the part of most suitable risk reduction action plan to reduce the climate change vulnerability in crop agriculture.
