A new method of obtaining the in situ residual resistivity ratio at the stabilizer region of 60-kA composite conductors in a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system is introduced. The approach requires taking time-constant measurements using the eddy current decay method at 4.2 K and room temperature. Its implementation on prototype conductors and high-purity aluminum stabilizers suggests that the method may be applied to fully assembled SMES conductors.
