A spreadsheet model is described for estimating the probable impact of high temperature superconducting (HTS) power devices on the US' national electric grid.

Current high temperature superconducting transformer project are reviewed and economic and technical issues are discussed.

Sphere-sphere, rod-rod and rod-plane air gaps, each 5-cm long, were tested with lightning surges of eight voltage waves of both polarities. The critical breakdown voltage levels of the tested air gaps attained a minimum plateau within specific range of wavefronts of the lightning surges. Long time delays of breakdown for the fast-front and short time delays for the slow-front waves were observed. These phenomena would significantly affect the insulation coordination of the power apparatus and systems. Key Words: air gaps, impulse strength, lightning

For several reasons, the application of superconductors to both the transmission and distribution of electric power is a desire that is best accomplished by using direct current. The inherent low loss, high current capability of dc superconducting cables allows the replacement of ultra-high voltage apparatus and the associated high cost and inversion-rectification difficulties with a compact potentially lower cost, low profile, high current, cable system. This paper discusses the history of dc transmission and distribution applications and the reasons that high temperature superconductors, modem cryogenic systems, and cryogenic power electronics are the potential enabling technologies. The economic and performance enhancements that follow from the integration of these high current, superconducting dc systems into the electric grid are presented together with the expected potential operational benefits. Possible cable and rectifier-inverter configurations are summarized along with the technical and economic challenges that must be overcome to achieve a significant penetration of dc cable technology on both the transmission and distribution grids. Finally, the steps needed to achieve large-scale applications of high-current dc transmission and dc distribution in the future electric grid are summarized. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two clinical cases of regional enteritis, one in an adult and the other in a child, both treated with citrus bio-flavonoids benefited from this therapy. Mucoid enteritis in rabbits was treated with citrus bio-flavonoids. This treatment reduced the mortality rate from 100 to 10.5 per cent. Cytologic studies have revealed the presence of inclusion bodies, indicative of a viral invasion in the submucosal lymphatic cells of rabbits affected with acute enteritis.
