The program utilizes courses from several departments while allowing students to apply chemical engineering techniques to an integrated circuit fabrication research topic. Abstract

The objective of this work was to study the growth and physical properties of carbon fibers prepared by the ion-bombardment of carbon surfaces, with particular reference to optical obscuration applications. During the contract period, it was decided to include another class of carbon fibers grown by catalytic-chemical-vapor-deposition (CCVD). This initial work showed that submicron diameter filaments of high aspect ration could be grown.
