Abstract Background Influenza represents a serious public health threat, especially for the management of severe cases and complications of the disease, requiring the implementation of control measures. We aimed to assess the acceptance and impact of qLAIV vaccination among a representative sample of family paediatricians (FPs) operating in Palermo Local Health Authority (LHA). To this end we evaluated vaccination coverage rates, comparing it with that observed in Sicilian context, while actively monitoring possible adverse reactions and their severity. Methods An observational descriptive non-controlled study was conducted in two phases, from September 2022 to June 2023. The first phase involved a formative and educational intervention with a pre-intervention questionnaire to assess the knowledge and attitudes of FPs on paediatric influenza vaccination. The second phase consisted of an active surveillance on qLAIV safety and acceptance among the paediatric population assisted by the participating FPs, from October 2022 to April 2023. Frequencies, chi-squared tests, and comparisons statistics were performed using Stata/MP 14.1. Results The overall coverage rate among the paediatric population involved in the intervention was 13.2%, with an I.M./qLAIV ratio of vaccine administered of 1/4.25. This coverage rate was significantly higher (p-value

IntroductionImplant-based breast reconstruction (IBR) is the predominant breast reconstruction technique post-mastectomy, with bacterial infections being a significant complication affecting patient recovery and quality of life. The following study aimed to determine the microbiological features of the causative agents responsible for breast implant infections, with more attention paid to the comparative analysis of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and their presentation.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective analysis of 214 patients who presented with periprosthetic infection and underwent implant removal following implant-based breast reconstruction at Humanitas Research Hospital and Istituto Europeo di Oncologia between January 2018 and March 2024.ResultsThe study revealed that Gram-positive bacteria were more prevalent, with Staphylococcus species, particularly Staphylococcus aureus, being the most isolated pathogen in both institutions (∼39.96%). In contrast, Gram-negative bacteria were less frequent, with a higher proportion of these pathogens being multi-resistant strains. A significant difference was observed (p = 0.007), indicating that individuals with normal BMI have a higher prevalence of Gram-positive infections (88.46%), whereas obese and overweight patients had higher proportions of Gram-negative infections (23.53% and 28.89%, respectively). In addition, smoking status was also significantly associated with pathogen distribution (p = 0.032), with active and past smokers being related to higher percentages of polymicrobial infections. Furthermore, positive prophylactic MSSA/MRSA swabs were significantly more associated with Staphylococcus aureus infections compared to those with negative results (p =

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex disease of the CNS thought to require an environmental trigger. Gut dysbiosis is common in MS, but specific causative species are unknown. To address this knowledge gap, we used sensitive and quantitative PCR detection to show that people with MS were more likely to harbor and show a greater abundance of epsilon toxin-producing (ETX-producing) strains of C. perfringens within their gut microbiomes compared with individuals who are healthy controls (HCs). Isolates derived from patients with MS produced functional ETX and had a genetic architecture typical of highly conjugative plasmids. In the active immunization model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), where pertussis toxin (PTX) is used to overcome CNS immune privilege, ETX can substitute for PTX. In contrast to PTX-induced EAE, where inflammatory demyelination is largely restricted to the spinal cord, ETX-induced EAE caused demyelination in the corpus callosum, thalamus, cerebellum, brainstem, and spinal cord, more akin to the neuroanatomical lesion distribution seen in MS. CNS endothelial cell transcriptional profiles revealed ETX-induced genes that are known to play a role in overcoming CNS immune privilege. Together, these findings suggest that ETX-producing C. perfringens strains are biologically plausible pathogens in MS that trigger inflammatory demyelination in the context of circulating myelin autoreactive lymphocytes.

The surging capacity demands of 5G networks and the limited coverage distance of high frequencies like millimeter wave (mmW) and sub-terahertz (THz) bands have led to consider the upper 6GHz (U6G) spectrum for radio access. However, due to the presence of the existing satellite (SAT) services in these bands, it is crucial to evaluate the impact of the interference of terrestrial U6G stations to SAT systems. A comprehensive study on the aggregated U6G-to-SAT interference is still missing in the literature. In this paper, we propose a stochastic model of interference (SMI) to evaluate the U6G-to-SAT interference, including the statistical characterization of array gain and clutter loss and considering different interference modes. Furthermore, we propose an approximate geometrical-based stochastic model of interference (GSMI) as an alternative method to SMI when the clutter-loss distribution is unavailable. Our results indicate that given the typical international mobile telecommunication (IMT) parameters, the aggregated interference power is well below the relevant protection criterion, and we prove numerically that the GSMI method overestimates the aggregated interference power with only 2dB compared to the SMI method., Comment: 11 pages, 14 Figures, submitted to IEEE transaction on Antennas and Propagation

Background: Multiple factors can fuel nurses’ intention to leave their employing hospital or their profession. Job dissatisfaction and burnout are contributors to this decision. Sociodemographic and work context factors can also play a role in explaining nurses’ intention to leave. Objective: To investigate the role of sociodemographic and work context factors, including job resources, job demands, job dissatisfaction, depersonalization, and emotional exhaustion, on nurses’ intention to leave their hospital or their profession. Design: Multicentre cross-sectional study. Setting(s): Eight European hospitals, two per each country, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland. Participants: From May 16 to September 30, 2022, we collected 1,350 complete responses from nurses working at the selected hospitals (13 % response rate). Methods: The intention to leave was assessed through two 5-Likert scale outcomes, agreeing with the intention to leave the profession and the intention to leave the hospital. Logistic regression models were used for statistical analysis. Results: At the multivariable analysis, a higher intention to leave the hospital was observed for: younger age, having served on the frontline against COVID-19, lack of quipment, living in the Netherlands, emotional exhaustion, dissatisfaction with work prospects, and dissatisfaction with the use of professional abilities. There was a higher intention to leave the profession for: younger age, living in the Netherlands, having work-related health problems, depersonalization, emotional exhaustion, low possibilities of professional development, dissatisfaction with work prospects, lack of use of professional abilities, overall ob issatisfaction, and dissatisfaction with salary. Nurses living in Italy expressed the lowest intention to leave. Conclusion: While confirming the role of job dissatisfaction and burnout, we found higher intention to leave for young nurses, nurses with work-related health problems, and caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Dissatisfaction with work prospects, professional development, and salary also increased the intention to leave. We call for educators, managers, and policymakers to address these factors to retain at-risk nursing categories, implementing strategies to mitigate intentions to leave.

ABSTRACTWith the pandemic, there has been a global reduction in influenza virus circulation, with WHO reporting, during 2021/22 season, laboratory testing positivity rate for influenza of less than 3%. Influenza surveillance systems anticipated a peak of influenza cases in the Northern Hemisphere during 2022/2023 season and the Italian Ministry of Health recommended the routinary co-administration of influenza with bivalent COVID-19 vaccines for the 2022/2023 season. At the Vaccination Hub of the University Hospital (UH) of Palermo, more than 700 subjects received influenza and COVID-19 booster doses in co-administration, during the 2021/2022 season. A cross-sectional study analyzing attitudes and factors associated with adherence to influenza and COVID-19 seasonal vaccines co-administration was conducted at the Vaccination Hub of the UH of Palermo, from October to December 2022. Among the 1,263 respondents, 74.7% (n = 944) received the co-administration of seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccines. The main reason reported for accepting it was confidence in the recommendations of the Health Ministry (41.3%). At the multivariable analysis, subjects aged ≤ 59 y old (AdjOR: 2.48; CIs95%: 1.89–3.65), male (AdjOR: 1.51; CIs95%: 1.27–1.75), Health-care professionals (HCPs) (AdjOR: 1.66; CIs95%: 1.08–2.57) and those who received co-administration during 2021/2022 (AdjOR: 41.6; CIs95%: 25.5–67.9) were significantly more prone to receive co-administration during 2022/23 season. From data obtained, the role of HCPs in accepting and then promoting co-administration of COVID-19 and influenza vaccines is crucial, as well as receiving co-administration in the previous season that represented the main drive for accepting it in the following seasons, supporting safety and effectiveness of this procedure.

The prevalence of malnutrition in patients is very high in Europe (>70%). An Italian FADOI-SINPE survey revealed that malnutrition is an underestimated problem by internists. The AMIDO study examines malnutrition in Acqui Terme Hospital (Alessandria, Italy) Internal Medicine Department patients. Patients were screened for malnutrition using the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) upon admission. 268 patients (49.63% male) were enrolled, with a median age of 83 years. At admission, the prevalence of malnutrition risk was 48.88%. The proportion of patients who came from home resulted to have a slight decreasing trend among the three subgroups according to MUST (84.67%, 82.76%, and 73.53% in increasing order of MUST score respectively), but was not statistically significant (P=0.10). Dementia [odds ratio (OR): 6.36; 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.52-18.63], heart failure (OR: 2.45; 95% CI: 1.33-4.57), neoplasm (OR: 2.24; 95% CI: 1.08-4.77) and infectious diseases (OR: 2.27; 95% CI: 1.226-4.274) increase malnutrition odds. Increasing attention to malnutrition risk is crucial for patients with dementia, neoplasm, heart failure, and infectious diseases, which raise malnutrition risk probability.

IntroductionSeasonal influenza generally represents an underestimated public health problem with significant socioeconomic implications. Monitoring and detecting influenza epidemics are important tasks that require integrated strategies. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) is an emerging field that uses wastewater data to monitor the spread of disease and assess the health of a community. It can represent an integrative surveillance tool for better understanding the epidemiology of influenza and prevention strategies in public health.MethodsWe conducted a study that detected the presence of Influenza virus RNA using a wastewater-based approach. Samples were collected from five wastewater treatment plants in five different municipalities, serving a cumulative population of 555,673 Sicilian inhabitants in Italy. We used the RT-qPCR test to compare the combined weekly average of Influenza A and B viral RNA in wastewater samples with the average weekly incidence of Influenza-like illness (ILI) obtained from the Italian national Influenza surveillance system. We also compared the number of positive Influenza swabs with the viral RNA loads detected from wastewater. Our study investigated 189 wastewater samples.ResultsCumulative ILI cases substantially overlapped with the Influenza RNA load from wastewater samples. Influenza viral RNA trends in wastewater samples were similar to the rise of ILI cases in the population. Therefore, wastewater surveillance confirmed the co-circulation of Influenza A and B viruses during the season 2022/2023, with a similar trend to that reported for the weekly clinically confirmed cases.ConclusionWastewater-based epidemiology does not replace traditional epidemiological surveillance methods, such as laboratory testing of samples from infected individuals. However, it can be a valuable complement to obtaining additional information on the incidence of influenza in the population and preventing its spread.

BackgroundCardiovascular diseases (CVDs) pose a significant global health challenge, necessitating innovative approaches for primary prevention. Personalized prevention, based on genetic risk scores (PRS) and digital technologies, holds promise in revolutionizing CVD preventive strategies. However, the clinical efficacy of these interventions requires further investigation. This study presents the protocol of the INNOPREV randomized controlled trial, aiming to evaluate the clinical efficacy of PRS and digital technologies in personalized cardiovascular disease prevention.MethodsThe INNOPREV trial is a four-arm RCT conducted in Italy. A total of 1,020 participants, aged 40–69 with high 10-year CVD risk based on SCORE 2 charts, will be randomly assigned to traditional CVD risk assessment, genetic testing (CVD PRS), digital intervention (app and smart band), or a combination of genetic testing and digital intervention. The primary objective is to evaluate the efficacy of providing CVD PRS information, measured at baseline, either alone or in combination with the use of an app and a smart band, on two endpoints: changes in lifestyle patterns, and modification in CVD risk profiles. Participants will undergo a comprehensive assessment and cardiovascular evaluation at baseline, with follow-up visits at one, five, and 12 months. Lifestyle changes and CVD risk profiles will be assessed at different time points beyond the initial assessment, using the Life's Essential 8 and SCORE 2, respectively. Blood samples will be collected at baseline and at study completion to evaluate changes in lipid profiles. The analysis will employ adjusted mixed-effect models for repeated measures to assess significant differences in the data collected over time. Additionally, potential moderators and mediators will be examined to understand the underlying mechanisms of behavior change.DiscussionAs the largest trial in this context, the INNOPREV trial will contribute to the advancement of personalized cardiovascular disease prevention, with the potential to positively impact public health and reduce the burden of CVDs on healthcare systems. By systematically examining the clinical efficacy of PRS and digital interventions, this trial aims to provide valuable evidence to guide future preventive strategies and enhance population health outcomes.

Electrical Engineering and Systems Science - Signal Processing - Abstract
Millimeter Waves (mmW) and sub-THz frequencies are the candidate bands for the upcoming Sixth Generation (6G) of communication systems. The use of collimated beams at mmW/sub-THz to compensate for the increased path and penetration loss arises the need for a seamless Beam Management (BM), especially for high mobility scenarios such as the Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) one. Recent research advances in Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) indicate that equipping the network infrastructure, e.g., the Base Station (BS), with either a stand-alone radar or sensing capabilities using optimized waveforms, represents the killer technology to facilitate the BM. However, radio sensing should accurately localize the Vehicular Equipment (VE)'s antenna, which is not guaranteed in general. Differently, employing side information from VE's onboard positioning sensors might overcome this limitation at the price of an increased control signaling between VE and BS. This paper provides a pragmatic comparison between radar-assisted and position-assisted BM for mmW V2I systems in a typical urban scenario in terms of BM training time and beamforming gain loss due to a wrong BM decision. Simulation results, supported by experimental evidence, show that the point target approximation of a traveling VE does not hold in practical V2I scenarios with radar-equipped BS. Therefore, the true antenna position has a residual uncertainty that is independent of radar's resolution and implies 50\,\% more BM training time on average. Moreover, there is not a winning technology for BM between BS-mounted radar and VE's onboard positioning systems. They provide complementary performance, depending on position, although outperforming blind BM techniques compared to conventional blind methods. Thus, we propose to optimally combine radar and positioning information in a multi-technology integrated BM solution., Comment: 14 pages

Abstract The European healthcare sector faces a significant shortage of healthcare workers. Assessing the prevalence of this issue and understanding its direct and indirect determinants are essential for formulating effective recruitment programs and enhancing job retention strategies for physicians and nurses. A multicentric cross-sectional study was conducted, involving 381 physicians and 1351 nurses recruited from eight European hospitals in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Poland. The study focused on assessing turnover intentions among healthcare workers based on the Job Demands-Resources model, using an online questionnaire. Structural equation models were employed to test the data collection questionnaires’ construct validity and internal consistency. The turnover intention was assessed by agreement with the intention to leave either the hospital or the profession. Among physicians, 17% expressed an intention to leave the hospital, while 9% intended to leave the profession. For nurses, the figures were 8.9% and 13.6%, respectively. The internal consistency of the questionnaires exceeded 0.90 for both categories of health workers. Depersonalization and job dissatisfaction were identified as direct determinants of turnover intention, with work engagement being particularly relevant for nurses. We found a higher intention to leave the hospital among physicians, while nurses were more prone to leave their profession. To mitigate turnover intentions, it is recommended to focus on improving job satisfaction, work engagement and fostering a positive working climate, thereby addressing depersonalisation and promoting job retention.

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
Fifth generation (5G) and beyond communication systems open the door to millimeter Wave (mmWave) frequency bands to leverage the extremely large operating bandwidths and deliver unprecedented network capacity. These frequency bands are affected by high propagation losses that severely limit the achievable coverage. The simplest way to address this problem would be to increase the number of installed mmWave base stations (BSs), at the same time augmenting the overall network cost, power consumption and ElectroMagnetic Field (EMF) levels. As alternative direction, here we propose to complement the macro-layer of mmWave BSs with a heterogeneous deployment of Smart Electromagnetic (Smart EM) Entities - namely IAB nodes, Smart Repeaters, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) and passive surfaces - that is judiciously planned to minimize the total installation costs while at the same time optimizing the network spectral efficiency. Initial network planning results underline the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The available technologies and the key research directions for achieving this view are thoroughly discussed by accounting for issues ranging from system-level design to the development of new materials.

Electrical Engineering and Systems Science - Signal Processing - Abstract
With the advent of self-driving vehicles, autonomous driving systems will have to rely on a vast number of heterogeneous sensors to perform dynamic perception of the surrounding environment. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems increase the resolution of conventional mass-market radars by exploiting the vehicle's ego-motion, requiring a very accurate knowledge of the trajectory, usually not compatible with automotive-grade navigation systems. In this regard, this paper deals with the analysis, estimation and compensation of trajectory estimation errors in automotive SAR systems, proposing a complete residual motion estimation and compensation workflow. We start by defining the geometry of the acquisition and the basic processing steps of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) SAR systems. Then, we analytically derive the effects of typical motion errors in automotive SAR imaging. Based on the derived models, the procedure is detailed, outlining the guidelines for its practical implementation. We show the effectiveness of the proposed technique by means of experimental data gathered by a 77 GHz radar mounted in a forward looking configuration., Comment: 14 pages

After disruption in the influenza circulation due to the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the intensity of seasonal outbreaks has returned to the pre-pandemic levels. This study aimed to evaluate the evolution and variability of whole-genome sequences of A(H1N1)pdm09, the predominant influenza virus in Sicily (Italy) during the season 2023–2024. The potential vaccine efficacy was calculated using the pepitope model based on amino acid changes in the dominant epitope of hemagglutinin. The HA gene sequences showed several amino acid substitutions, some of which were within the major antigenic sites. The phylogenetic analysis showed that Sicilian strains grouped into two main genetic clades (6B.1A.5a.2a.1 and 6B.1A.5a.2a) and several subclades. Notably, about 40% of sequences partially drifted from the WHO-recommended vaccine strain A/Victoria/4897/2022 for the Northern Hemisphere. These sequences mostly belonged to the subclades C.1.8 and C.1.9 and harboured the amino acid mutations responsible for the modest predicted vaccine efficacy (E = 38.12% of 53%, pepitope = 0) against these viruses. Amino acid substitutions in other gene segments were also found. Since influenza viruses are constantly evolving, genomic surveillance is crucial in monitoring their molecular evolution and the occurrence of genetic and antigenic changes, and, thus, their potential impact on vaccine efficacy.

Anisakis allergy ,Anisakis IgE sensitization ,basophil activation test ,Chemical technology ,TP1-1185 - Abstract
Dietary changes expose consumers to risks from Anisakis larvae in seafood, leading to parasitic diseases and allergies. Anisakis is recognized by EFSA as a significant hazard, with potential oncogenic implications. Diagnostic advancements, like the Basophil Activation Test (BAT), enhance sensitivity and accuracy in identifying Anisakis sensitization, complementing traditional IgE tests. We conducted a cross-sectional study on patients with allergic symptoms from April 2021 to April 2023 at two outpatient clinics in western Sicily. Our goal was to assess the prevalence of Anisakis-related allergies and to identify risk profiles using specific Anisakis IgE and the BAT, especially in regions with high raw fish consumption. The study evaluated specific Anisakis IgE as a screening tool for Anisakis sensitization, using questionnaires, blood samples, and immuno-allergology analyses. Anisakis-specific IgE values were compared with the BAT results, with statistical analyses including Fisher’s exact test and logistic regression. The results showed an 18.5% seroprevalence of Anisakis IgE, while the BAT as a second-level test showed 4.63%, indicating the BAT’s superior specificity and accuracy. The study highlighted the importance of the BAT in diagnosing Anisakis sensitization, especially in cases of cross-reactivity with Ascaris and tropomyosin. The findings confirm the BAT’s exceptional specificity in identifying Anisakis sensitization and support using Anisakis-specific IgE for population-based risk profiling. The BAT can effectively serve as a confirmatory test.

This paper deals with the analysis, estimation, and compensation of trajectory errors in automotive-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems. First of all, we define the geometry of the acquisition and the model of the received signal. We then proceed by analytically evaluating the effect of an error in the vehicle's trajectory. Based on the derived model, we introduce a motion compensation (MoCo) procedure capable of estimating and compensating constant velocity motion errors leading to a well-focused and well-localized SAR image. The procedure is validated using real data gathered by a 77 GHz automotive SAR with MIMO capabilities., Comment: 6 pages

Electrical Engineering and Systems Science - Signal Processing - Abstract
Automotive synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems are rapidly emerging as a candidate technological solution to enable a high-resolution environment mapping for autonomous driving. Compared to lidars and cameras, automotive-legacy radars can work in any weather condition and without an external source of illumination, but are limited in either range or angular resolution. SARs offer a relevant increase in angular resolution, provided that the ego-motion of the radar platform is known along the synthetic aperture. In this paper, we present the results of an experimental campaign aimed at assessing the potential of a multi-beam SAR imaging in an urban scenario, composed of various targets (buildings, cars, pedestrian, etc.), employing a 77 GHz multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar platform based on a mass-market available automotive-grade technology. The results highlight a centimeter-level accuracy of the SAR images in realistic driving conditions, showing the possibility to use a multi-angle focusing approach to detect and discriminate between different targets based on their angular scattering response., Comment: 6 pages

In the emerging high mobility Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communications using millimeter Wave (mmWave) and sub-THz, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channel estimation is an extremely challenging task. At mmWaves/sub-THz frequencies, MIMO channels exhibit few leading paths in the space-time domain (i.e., directions or arrival/departure and delays). Algebraic Low-rank (LR) channel estimation exploits space-time channel sparsity through the computation of position-dependent MIMO channel eigenmodes leveraging recurrent training vehicle passages in the coverage cell. LR requires vehicles' geographical positions and tens to hundreds of training vehicles' passages for each position, leading to significant complexity and control signalling overhead. Here we design a DL-based LR channel estimation method to infer MIMO channel eigenmodes in V2X urban settings, starting from a single LS channel estimate and without needing vehicle's position information. Numerical results show that the proposed method attains comparable Mean Squared Error (MSE) performance as the position-based LR. Moreover, we show that the proposed model can be trained on a reference scenario and be effectively transferred to urban contexts with different space-time channel features, providing comparable MSE performance without an explicit transfer learning procedure. This result eases the deployment in arbitrary dense urban scenarios.

MIMO systems in the context of 6G Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) will require an accurate channel knowledge to enable efficient communication. Standard channel estimation techniques, such as Unconstrained Maximum Likelihood (U-ML), are extremely noisy in massive MIMO settings, while structured approaches, e.g., compressed sensing, are suited to low-mobility scenarios and are sensitive to hardware impairments. We propose a novel Multi-Vehicular algebraic channel estimation method for 6G V2X based on unsupervised learning which exploits recurrent vehicle passages in typical urban settings. Multiple training sequences are clustered via K-medoids algorithm based on their \textit{algebraic similarity} to retrieve the MIMO channel eigenmodes, which can be used to improve the channel estimates. Numerical results show remarkable benefits of the proposed method in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE) compared to standard U-ML solution (15 dB less)., Comment: 6 pages

6G technology targets to revolutionize the mobility industry by revamping the role of wireless connections. In this article, we draw out our vision on an intelligent, cooperative, and sustainable mobility environment of the future, discussing how 6G will positively impact mobility services and applications. The scenario in focus is a densely populated area by smart connected entities that are mutually connected over a 6G virtual bus, which enables access to an extensive and always up-to-date set of context-sensitive information. The augmented dataset is functional to let vehicles engage in adaptive and cooperative learning mechanisms, enabling fully automated functionalities with higher communication integrity and reduced risk of accidents while being a sentient and collaborative processing node of the same ecosystem. Smart sensing and communication technologies are discussed herein, and their convergence is devised by the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence in centralized or distributed and federated network architectures., Comment: 9 Pages and 4 figures

Channel estimation for hybrid Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems at Millimeter-Waves (mmW)/sub-THz is a fundamental, despite challenging, prerequisite for an efficient design of hybrid MIMO precoding/combining. Most works propose sequential search algorithms, e.g., Compressive Sensing (CS), that are most suited to static channels and consequently cannot apply to highly dynamic scenarios such as Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X). To address the latter ones, we leverage \textit{recurrent vehicle passages} to design a novel Multi Vehicular (MV) hybrid MIMO channel estimation suited for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) systems. Our approach derives the analog precoder/combiner through a MV beam alignment procedure. For the digital precoder/combiner, we adapt the Low-Rank (LR) channel estimation method to learn the position-dependent eigenmodes of the received digital signal (after beamforming), which is used to estimate the compressed channel in the communication phase. Extensive numerical simulations, obtained with ray-tracing channel data and realistic vehicle trajectories, demonstrate the benefits of our solution in terms of both achievable Spectral Efficiency (SE) and Mean Square Error (MSE) compared to the Unconstrained Maximum Likelihood (U-ML) estimate of the compressed digital channel, making it suitable for both 5G and future 6G systems. Most notably, in some scenarios, we obtain the performance of the optimal Fully Digital (FD) systems.
