Multipartite genomes are thought to confer evolutionary advantages to bacteria by providing greater metabolic flexibility in fluctuating environments and enabling rapid adaptation to new ecological niches and stress conditions. This genome architecture is commonly found in plant symbionts, including nitrogen-fixing rhizobia, such as Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii TA1 (RtTA1), whose genome comprises a chromosome and four extrachromosomal replicons (ECRs). In this study, the transcriptomic responses of RtTA1 to partial nutrient limitation and low acidic pH were analyzed using high-throughput RNA sequencing. RtTA1 growth under these conditions resulted in the differential expression of 1035 to 1700 genes (DEGs), which were assigned to functional categories primarily related to amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism, ribosome and cell envelope biogenesis, signal transduction, and transcription. These results highlight the complexity of the bacterial response to stress. Notably, the distribution of DEGs among the replicons indicated that ECRs played a significant role in the stress response. The transcriptomic data align with the Rhizobium pangenome analysis, which revealed an over-representation of functional categories related to transport, metabolism, and regulatory functions on ECRs. Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. viciae GB30 is an aerobic, motile, Gram-negative, non-spore-forming rod that can exist as a soil saprophyte or as a legume microsymbiont of Pisum sativum. GB30 was isolated in Poland from a nodule recovered from the roots of Pisum sativum growing at Janow. GB30 is also an effective microsymbiont of the annual forage legumes vetch and pea. Here we describe the features of R. leguminosarum bv. viciae strain GB30, together with sequence and annotation. The 7,468,464 bp high-quality permanent draft genome is arranged in 78 scaffolds of 78 contigs containing 7,227 protein-coding genes and 75 RNA-only encoding genes, and is part of the GEBA-RNB project proposal.

The anti-atherogenic effects of omega 3 fatty acids, namely eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) are well recognized but the impact of dietary intake on bioactive lipid mediator profiles remains unclear. Such a profiling effort may offer novel targets for future studies into the mechanism of action of omega 3 fatty acids. The present study aimed to determine the impact of DHA supplementation on the profiles of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) oxygenated metabolites and to investigate their contribution to atherosclerosis prevention. A special emphasis was given to the non-enzymatic metabolites knowing the high susceptibility of DHA to free radical-mediated peroxidation and the increased oxidative stress associated with plaque formation. Introduction: Oxylipins are mediators of oxidative stress. To characterize the underlying inflammatory processes and phenotype effect of iron metabolism disorders, we investigated the oxylipin profile in hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) and dysmetabolic iron overload syndrome (DIOS) patients. Methods: An LC-MS/MS-based method was performed to quantify plasma oxylipins in 20 HH and 20 DIOS patients in fasting conditions and 3 h after an iron-rich meal in HH patients. Results: Principal component analysis showed no separation between HH and DIOS, suggesting that the clinical phenotype has no direct impact on oxylipin metabolism. 20-HETE was higher in DIOS and correlated with hypertension (p = 0.03). Different oxylipin signatures were observed in HH before and after the iron-rich meal. Discriminant oxylipins include epoxy fatty acids derived from docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid as well as 13-HODE and 9-HODE. Mediation analysis found no major contribution of dietary iron absorption for 16/22 oxylipins significantly affected by the meal. Discussion: The oxylipin profiles of HH and DIOS seemed similar except for 20-HETE, possibly reflecting different hypertension prevalence between the two groups. Oxylipins were significantly affected by the iron-rich meal, but the specific contribution of iron was not clear. Although iron may contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation in HH and DIOS, this does not seem to directly affect oxylipin metabolism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A physiological concentration of magnesium (Mg) is essential for optimal skeletal muscle function. Indeed, Mg plays a crucial role during the differentiation process (myogenesis), in muscle fiber composition, muscle contraction and performance. This narrative review describes in detail the relevance of Mg in skeletal muscle, highlighting the importance of adequate Mg intake to ensure optimal skeletal muscle cell function and performance in individuals of all ages. Hydropower plants in Poland currently use only 19% of the river’s energy potential. Development of hydropower is limited by environmental regulations as well as by economic grounds. From the environmental point of view, it is desirable to build small hydropower plants integrated into the local landscape. This paper presents results of the research aimed at estimating the amount of energy that could be produced in the case of small hydroelectric power plants on weirs existing on the Tyśmienica River. There is also a legal framework that should be adapted at hydropower development. It was calculated that the technical capacity of the small hydropower plants that could be built on 4 existing weirs, is 0.131 MW. These power plants could produce 786 MWh of electricity per year. The economic efficiency of this production is currently difficult to assess, because a new support system for renewable energy sources is currently being implemented, which will be a decisive factor for entrepreneurs. It should be borne in mind that potential investments will be made in protected areas within the Natura 2000 network, which may limit their constructing or impose the obligation to assess their impact on selected environmental elements. Location within the protective area does not eliminate such investments, especially when solutions with the least possible environmental impact are used.

Physical processes in soil-plant-water system are very complicated. Complex physical processes in soil, in particular interaction between soil-plant-water system have significant influence on processes in Planetary Boundary Layer. Changes of soil state can significantly modify processes in the PBL and meteorological fields. Since numerical models are to determine the forecast of high quality, the physical processes occurring in soil should be properly described and then appropriately introduced into a model. Every process in soil occurs on a smaller scale than original model’s domain, so it should be described via adequate parameterization. Overall, soil parameterizations implemented in current numerical weather prediction (NWP) model(s) were prepared almost 40 years ago, when NWP models worked with very poor resolution mesh. Since nowadays NWP works over domains of high resolution, these “old” schemes parameterization must be adequately revised. In this paper preliminary results of changes of parameterization of soil processes will be presented.

The paper estimates the possibility of obtaining solid biomass for energy purposes in the Biała Podlaska County (Lublin Voivodeship, Poland). The estimates were based on data on: forest area, orchards and tree stands, land use, crop structure, animal population, and marginal land area in the County. It was found that in most communes, there are great possibilities of obtaining biomass for energy purposes. The largest resource is straw (243,501 Mg per year), which should first be used in agriculture as animal litter and organic fertilizer. Only its surplus can be intended for the combustion and production of pellets and briquettes. In the County, large areas of poor quality land were inventoried, on which perennial energy plants with low requirements can be grown. Up to 113,595 Mg of biomass can be obtained there. The basic condition for the development of targeted energy crops is the emergence of a biomass market: installations that convert biomass into fuels or produce energy on a local scale and sell it to power plants. Currently, a commonly used resource is wood biomass from forests and wood processing, which is used as fuel in domestic boilers, as well as for the production of pellets and briquettes.

The aim of this study is to present the application of statistical methods to assess the possibility of grouping precipitation according to their elevation above sea level and precipitation levels in the temperate climate of Poland. The country was divided into regions with similar levels of precipitation using cluster analysis by Ward’s method. The study was performed with meteorological data on average monthly precipitation of 53 meteorological stations from 1981 to 2010. The selection of stations was dictated by the need to consider the variability in amounts of annual precipitation throughout the country. The data was used to calculate average annual precipitation total as well as average precipitation total in the summer half-year (from May to October) and the winter half-year (from November to April) for Poland, from 1981 to 2010. Statistical method was performed and six clusters were generated, for the elevation of the stations and average annual precipitation as well as average precipitation for hydrological half-years. The average annual precipitation for the clusters ranged from 530 mm (cluster 5) to 820 mm (cluster 2). The average precipitation for the winter hydrological half-year ranged from 190.1 mm (cluster 1) to 288.8 mm (cluster 5). The average precipitation for the summer hydrological half-year ranged from 326.3 mm (cluster 5) to 605 mm (cluster 2). The conclusions from the analysis carried out in the study are that: (1) grouping by means of Ward’s method can be used to distinguish homogeneous areas with the same levels of precipitation; (2) both precipitation and the elevation, at which meteorological stations are located, are the basis for distinguishing clusters in Ward’s method.
