There is often a lack of standardization in the publication of this type of bibliometrics and scientometrics studies, which makes it difficult to evaluate their validity and contrast the findings. Hence, inspired by the existence of different guidelines for other methodological designs, a group of Peruvian bibliometricians develop guidelines for the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies focusing on the three main types of studies used in bibliometrics and scientometrics: citations, number of publications, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis and social network analysis, structural patterns, spatial distribution, etc. Bibliometricians, editors, and researchers collaborated to develop the RAMIBS guideline: Reporting and Measurement of Items for Bibliometric or Scientometric Studies for verifying the items that should be included in the reports of bibliometric and scientometric studies. This process of consensus, drafting, and review resulted in a checklist of 12 items that are related to the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, and discussion of the articles. It is hoped that these guidelines will improve the quality of the presentation of bibliometric and scientometric studies, thus facilitating their reporting, evaluation, and application. Objective. The aim of this study was to examine the characteristics of scientific production related to the use of filtered water in the field of dentistry. Material and Methods. A quantitative and descriptive observational study was carried out with a scientometric approach. Data were collected from the Web of Science (WOS) database during the period January 1991 to December 2023. A search strategy incorporating a combination of MeSH terms, including terms and thesauri related to "filtered water" and "dentistry", was used. R Studio version 4.3.2 and CiteSpace 6.2.R7 were used for data analysis. Results. Over the 32-year study period, 227 scholarly papers from 134 different sources were reviewed. The literature in this field has shown an annual growth rate of 10.44%. During the year 2010, a steady movement in the number of publications and authors was observed, with considerable collaborative interaction. In the year 2020, a large interaction between publications and their citations was found. The "Citation Burst" graph identified three references that have experienced the largest "burst" of citations in an evaluated period. Lotka's law described the productivity of authors, finding that most authors have published only one paper, while a smaller number of authors have published two papers. Most authors contributed a small number of articles, while a few authors contributed a large amount of the existing literature. Conclusion. A comprehensive overview of the scientific production related to the use of filtered water in dentistry over a span of 32 years is provided. The results highlight the growing interdisciplinarity and international collaboration in this field. Aim: This narrative review aimed at identifying the existing scientific literature investigating periodontitis and neuropathic diseases. Materials and Methods: A search of the literature published between 2000 and 2022 was carried out in the electronic databases of Scopus and PubMed. Studies in which the eligible articles were mainly published in English were included. Descriptive correlational studies, case–control studies, comparative studies, and cohort studies were also included. The following main keywords were used: "Neuropathic diseases," "Periodontitis," "Alzheimer's disease," and "Porphyromonas gingivalis." Results: This narrative review found that cognitively impaired persons with severe periodontitis had a higher prevalence and incidence of periodontal diseases than the rest of the population. A significant positive correlation of salivary interleukin (IL)-1beta and immediate recall scores involved in cognition was also evident. It indicates that the most investigated parameter was whether there is any common link between periodontal disease and neurodegeneration. No randomized controlled clinical studies were found in the current literature review. Conclusions: Based on the literature reviewed, there is currently no strong scientific evidence to support or discourage the cause–effect relationship of periodontal diseases and neurodegenerative diseases. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on dermatology, but to date no bibliometric analysis of this field has been identified. Therefore, the aim of this study was to perform a bibliometric indicator analysis of the worldwide scientific production of COVID-19 in dermatology. Materials and Methods: An advanced bibliographic search was performed in the Scopus database to identify articles on COVID-19 and dermatology from 2020 to 2021. The collected information was analysed with SciVal software. Bibliometric data were described through figures and summary tables. Results: A total of 1448 documents were collected and analysed. Torello Lotti was the author with the greatest scientific production; however, Esther Freeman had the greatest impact. Harvard University was the institution with the highest number of published articles. Most papers were published in the first quartiles. The United States and Italy were the leading countries in terms of production. Articles with international collaboration had the highest impact. Conclusion: Articles related to dermatology and COVID-19 are mostly published with American and Italian affiliations. In addition, there has been an increase in the distribution of articles published in the first quartile, which would reflect a growing interest in the community. Aim: To compare the profile of users of short- and long-acting contraceptive methods (CM). Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study that analyzed population-based databases in Peru. A total of 12,973 users of short- and long- acting CM were included. Social, demographic, and reproductive characteristics were studied, as well as the type of contraceptive method. Descriptive statistics were calculated; and the Chi-square test was applied with 95% confidence. Results: Short-acting contraceptives (87.7%) are more used than long-acting contraceptives (LARCs) (12.3%). Among users of LARCs, the proportion of women with higher education (47.7%) was significantly higher. Women from the highlands (21.9%) used mostly short-acting methods; and those residing in urban areas (85.5%) and with a high wealth index (23.7%) used long-acting methods. Childlessness (18.8%) and non-desire for parity (62.5%) were higher in users of short- and LARCs, respectively. The initiation of sexual intercourse was not different in both groups of users. Conclusion: Social, demographic, and reproductive characteristics are different in women users of short- and long-acting methods, except for age at sexual debut. Clinical significance: The wide range of CM currently available allows women and their partners to satisfy their reproductive demands, although their choice depends on various conditions internal or external to the woman. Aim: The aim of this study was to describe the scientific literature on the use and applications of manual and electronic toothbrushes. Materials and Methods: An electronic search without date restriction was carried out in the PubMed and Scopus databases. The articles were selected, and their characteristics, objectives, and methods were analyzed using the following keywords: "manual toothbrush," "electronic toothbrush," "interdental brush," "dental plaque," "gingivitis," "periodontitis" and "mechanical cleaning." Ten relevant studies investigating the uses and applications of manual versus electronic toothbrushes were selected for this review. Results: The studies determined the efficacy of electronic and manual toothbrushes for the reduction of gingivitis and plaque, detailing the characteristics of the populations. Some studies evaluated the effectiveness of the two classes of brushes using different dental plaque indexes. One study determined plaque removal by comparing an interactive versus manual toothbrush, and two studies evaluated the effectiveness of the brushes in plaque reduction in a pediatric population. Based on the research articles, it was evident that some studies found no significant difference in biofilm removal in the use of electronic toothbrushes versus manual toothbrushes. Conclusion: In summary, it is not possible to give a conclusion because there is a discrepancy between the authors, and further studies are needed to corroborate and contrast the usefulness of manual and electronic toothbrushes. Objectives: To describe the trends and characteristics of the worldwide scientific production on the use of artificial pancreas (AP) in the management of diabetes mellitus (DM). Materials and Methods: Scientific papers published between 2017 and 2022 were retrieved from the Scopus database using relevant keywords. Only original articles, reviews, and short surveys were included. The metadata were exported to the SciVal software for retrieving quantitative data and the main characteristics such as journals, authors, institutions, journal metrics by quartiles, subcategories, and collaborative networks were extracted. Results: A total of 642 articles were included after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria: original articles, 489; reviews, 151; and short surveys, 2. The most common type of collaboration was at the national level (38.3%; citations per publication: 22.3; field-weighted citation index [FWCI]: 2.2) followed by international collaboration (29.4%; citations per publication: 19.6; FWCI: 1.94). More than 70% of articles in each year were published in journals listed in Q1. Two journals, Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, accounted for about 22% of all publications. Six of the top 10 universities were from the United States, with The University of Virginia having the most publications (n = 54; 59 authors; citations per publication: 38.4; FWCI: 3.73). Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight that most research on this topic is published in high-quality journals and has a good citation impact. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of enamel matrix derivative (EMD) on periodontal regeneration defects. Materials and Methods: Four databases were searched until October 2021. Experimental animal studies evaluating the efficacy of EMD were used. The primary outcomes were bone formation (BF) and cementum formation (CF). The secondary outcomes were junctional epithelium (JE), gingival recession (GR), and clinical attachment level (CAL). Measures of effect were mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Random-effects model were used for all meta-analyses. The Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory animal Experimentation tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Results: Seven experimental animal studies (n = 40) used with a maximum follow-up period of 3 months. Compared to control, EMD did not significantly reduce BF (MD 0.02 mm; 95% CI − 1.91–1.96; I2 = 89%). However, it increased CF (MD 1.38 mm; 95% CI 0.01–2.74; I2 = 55%). For secondary outcomes it was found that compared to control, EMD only significantly reduced JE (MD − 0.54 mm; 95% CI − 1.06 to − 0.02; I2 = 55%). However, the other secondary outcomes were not significant as in the case of GR (MD − 3. 88 mm; 95% CI − 68.29–60.53; I2 = 82%), and in CAL (MD 0.02 mm; 95% CI − 0.29–0.39; I2 = 38%). Finally, according to the risk of bias assessment, all included studies had a high risk of bias. Conclusion: EMD had no effect on BF values while it did not reduce CF. Otherwise, in the secondary outcomes, EMD only significantly reduced JE values and had no effect on GR and CAL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Maternal death generates a great impact on public health, and it is recognized that its main cause is postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Therefore, the objective was to analyze the bibliometric profile of the world scientific production on maternal mortality due to PPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bibliometric study that included original articles indexed in Scopus, identified by means of a search strategy that included MESH terms and logical operators. Bibliometric indicators were estimated with the SciVal tool, and the VOSwiever program was used for co-occurrence networks by key terms and co-authorship by country. RESULTS: There has been an increase in the number of publications in the past 5 years. Regarding co-occurrence, the most frequent terms were "postpartum hemorrhage" and "maternal mortality." The United States and the United Kingdom are positioned as those with the highest density of publications; in addition, Australia evidences collaboration with Canada and South Korea. Publications with national collaboration were more frequent (36%). BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth is the most productive journal, although BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology has a higher normalized impact. The authors with the highest scientific output belong to an institution in the Netherlands. Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Leiden University are the most productive. CONCLUSION: Scientific activity on maternal mortality due to PPH is increasing and its main means of dissemination are high-impact journals. National collaboration was more frequent, with the active participation of authors and institutions from the Netherlands and the United States. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
