Introduction. Adolescence is regarded as a formative period for political development. One important developmental context is media. Negative media valence of political content can foster populistic attitudes, which in turn decreases support of political institutions, such as the EU. Because media valence effects are short-lived, this study examined intra-individual associations of media valence with European identity commitment and affect towards the EU, as well as indirect effects via populistic attitudes across 10 days. Methods. We implemented a 10-day daily diary study with 371 adolescents from Germany (January to February 2022). Adolescents were on average 14.24 years old (SD = 0.55) and 60.4% were female. We estimated the hypothesized associations using multilevel structural equation models and dynamic structural equation models. Results. We found significant associations between populistic attitudes and negative affect towards the EU on the same day and the next day. The lagged effect became non-significant, when including both same day and lagged effects into one model. Populistic attitudes were not significantly associated with European identity commitment within days or across days. Negative media content was associated with higher populistic attitudes on the same day and indirectly associated with negative affect towards the EU (b = -0.01, 95% CI [-0.004, -0.010]). Conclusion. Negatively perceived political media content was associated with higher populistic attitudes and more negative affect towards the EU concurrently. Our results imply that media plays an important role for adolescents’ development.

The following preregistration includes cross-sectional data from the first inquiry period alone. We try to answere the questions: RQ1: Which classes of European identity emerge within a sample of adolescents living in Germany? RQ2: What predicts class membership for European identity?

This daily diary study is embedded within the longitudinal cooperation project JUROP (Youth and Europe: between Polarization and Cohesion, https://jurop.uni-jena.de/) and draws its participants from JUROP’s participants. We will include data from JUROP’s daily diary study and complement it with information from the first measurement point of the questionnaire study. All data were collected between September 2021 and July 2022. Our aim is to examine and explain daily fluctuations of European identity commitment and negative affects towards the EU. We predict an indirect effect of media valence on European identity commitment and negative affect towards the EU mediated by populistic attitudes (within-person level). Furthermore, we predict that these within-person links will be different depending on individuals’ identity status (Eckstein, Körner & Noack, in prep) or identity class (Mayer & Jugert, in prep).

Darstellung und Beurteilung der Nachhaltigkeit im Zusammenhang mit der Recyclingverordnung am Beispiel eines mehrgeschoßigen Holzbaus. Kritische Analyse des mehrgeschoßigen Holzbaus im Zusammenhang mit der Baustoffrecyclingverordnung. Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Nachhaltigkeit im Bezug auf das Recyclingverhalten eines mehrgeschoßigen Holzbaus, wobei als Fallbeispiel das HoHo (=Holzhochhaus) in Wien gewählt wurde, welches zu den größten Holzhochhäusern der Welt zählt. Analysiert werden dabei alle Schichten der ausgewählten Bauteile (Außenwand, Innenwand, Decke) anhand der Recycling- und Baustoffverordnung (RBV), welche 2016 in Kraft trat, sowie anhand der ÖNORM B 3151, Rückbau von Bauwerken als Standardabbruchmethode, welche im Anhang der Recycling- und Baustoffverordnung beigelegt ist. Die Analyse wird dabei zunächst auf einen Quadratmeter je Bauteil bezogen und wird danach für das Gesamtgebäude durchgeführt. Das Ergebnis der Analyse stellt dar, wie viel Prozent pro Bauteil recycelt werden können bzw. wie viel Prozent pro Bauteil deponiert oder thermisch entsorgt werden müssen. Nach Auseinandersetzung mit der Recycling- und Baustoffverordnung wird schnell bewusst, dass sich diese hauptsächlich mit mineralischen und bituminösen Baustoffen beschäftigt und der Holzbau dabei nahezu völlig vernachlässigt wird. Bei Eingabe des Begriffs „Holz“ in der Suchfunktion der RBV werden lediglich 5 Treffer erzielt (exklusive ÖNORMEN). Die Analyse ergab, dass bezogen auf das Gesamtgebäude, 23% der Aufbauten recycelt werden können und 77% der Aufbauten deponiert bzw. thermisch entsorgt werden müssen. Diese Arbeit kam daher zu dem Ergebnis, dass ein Gebäude in Holzbauweise immer einen geringeren Recyclinganteil als ein Gebäude aus Beton haben wird, wenn das Recyclingverhalten anhand der RBV analysiert wird. Diese Feststellung wird begründet durch den Schwerpunkt auf mineralische und bituminöse Baustoffe, sowie durch das Vernachlässigen des Holzbaus in der RBV. Durch eine Überarbeitung der Recycling- und Baustoffverordnung, unter Einbeziehung des Holzbaus, inklusive Holzprodukte und Holzwerkstoffe, würde sich möglicherweise das Recyclingverhalten laut RBV von Holzbauten wesentlich steigern. Presentation and evaluation of sustainability in connection with the recycling order of a multi-story timber construction. Critical analysis of a multi-story timber construction in connection with the recycling order. This thesis deals with sustainability in relation to the recycling behavior of a multi-story timber construction. The HoHo (= wooden high-rise) in Vienna, which is one of the largest wooden high-rise buildings in the world, was chosen as a case study. All layers of the selected building components (exterior wall, interior wall, ceiling) are analysed on the basis of the Recycling and Building Materials Ordinance (RBV), which came into force in 2016, as well as on the basis of ÖNORM B 3151, Demolition of Buildings as a Standard Demolition Method, which is attached to the Recycling and Building Materials Ordinance. The analysis is initially based on one square meter per component and is then carried out for the entire building. The result of the analysis shows how many percent per component can be recycled or how many percent per component have to be deposited or disposed of thermally. After dealing with the Recycling and Building Materials Ordinance, it quickly becomes clear that it deals mainly with mineral and bituminous building materials and that timber construction is almost completely neglected. When entering the term "wood" in the search function of the RBV, only 5 hits are obtained (excluding ÖNORMEN). The analysis showed that in relation to the entire building, 23% of the superstructures can be recycled and 77% of the superstructures must be disposed of in landfills or thermally. This work therefore came to the conclusion that a building in timber construction will always have a lower recycling content than a building made of concrete if the recycling behavior is analysed on the basis of the RBV. This finding is justified by the focus on mineral and bituminous building materials and the neglect of timber construction in the RBV. A revision of the Recycling and Construction Materials Ordinance, including timber construction, timber products and derived timber products, would possibly significantly increase the recycling behavior of timber constructions according to the RBV.

In einem 2AFC-Experiment wird die Testperson instruiert, so schnell und so genau wie möglich zu reagieren. Reagieren Testpersonen genau, reagieren sie langsamer als sie könnten. Reagieren Testpersonen schnell, machen sie eher fehlerhafte Reaktionen. Fehlreaktionen gehören genauso wie richtige Reaktionen zur Performanz von Testpersonen, werden allerdings oft aus der Analyse von z.B. der mittleren Reaktionszeit ausgeschlossen (entspricht dem Reduced-Sample Schätzer). Aus statistischer Sicht handelt es sich bei Fehlreaktionen um ein Zensierungsproblem. Die Kaplan-Meier Methode und eine adaptierte Form des Aalen-Johansen Schätzers können, angepasst an die Daten eines Reaktionszeitexperimentes, als Korrektur für Fehlreaktionen verwendet werden. Einige Fehlreaktionen sind auf Ratedurchgänge rückführbar. Diese Ratedurchgänge können mit der Kill-the-Twin Prozedur korrigiert werden. Es ist annehmbar, dass die theoriegeleitete Korrektur von Fehlreaktionen die „wahre“ Performanz einer Testperson besser abbildet und daher auch reliabler ist. Bei der Berechnung der Reliabilität sollte der Reduced-Sample Schätzer schlechter abschneiden, als die Fehlerkorrekturen alleine und diese wiederum schlechter als Fehler- mit Ratekorrekturen. In den vier verwendeten Reaktionszeittests ist diese Annahme tendenziell bestätigt. Unter Anwendung von Fehler- und Ratekorrekturen verbessert sich die Reliabilität in allen Verfahren geringfügig., In a 2AFC-Experiment, participants are usually asked to respond as fast and as accurate as possible. This instruction results in a conflict of strategies: If a participant responds accurately, the velocity of the response decreases. If a participant responds fast, wrong reactions are made more frequently. Wrong reactions are often excluded from the analysis f.e. of average reaction times (= reduced-sample estimator). From a statistical point of view, a wrong reaction results in a censoring problem, which could be resolved with the Kaplan-Meier method or an adapted version of the Aalen-Johansen estimator. Wrong reactions are sometimes caused by guessing trials. If guessing trials are subtracted from the data, theoretically, the “true” performance should be estimated even more accurately. The Kaplan-Meier method, the Aalen-Johansen estimator and a combination of both with the Kill-the-Twin procedure should lead to more accurate, hence more reliable estimations of median reaction times. A tendency towards more reliable estimations for wrong-reaction-corrections in combination with guessing corrections was found, followed by more reliable estimations for wrong-reaction-corrections compared to the reduced-sample estimator.
