We all know what a map is. We all know that its aim is to capture certain land territories. From the fifth century onwards, maps have been present in history and their importance arises due to their graphic representations and descriptions. In contemporary postcolonial literary texts, the predominance of maps implies a revisioning of the history of European colonialism. Maps intend to implicate those lands with their constituents, their fundamental parts. They detail the internal life that emanates from those illustrations. Therefore, could this conception of maps be applied to the definition of oneself? I truly believe so. Maps here do not only delimit the boundaries of the region in question, the Horn of Africa, but also their innate elements such as Askar and Misra, the protagonists of Maps (1986). This project studies the magic connection that lies between the material, real map of the character’s motherland and the fictitious, imaginary one of their lives., Todos sabemos qué es un mapa. Our project examines countercultural production related to women and feminist movements. The Bell Jar and The Group will be analyzed in search of discourses in favor of the liberation of women and we will point out how they represent the modern woman. The texts we have selected for this work been all but ignored in previous criticism of the counterculture movement, despite the fact that they were best-sellers in their day. Nevertheless, they foresaw the advent of the feminist movements at the end of the 60s as we shall demonstrate., Nuestro trabajo examinará la producción contracultural en relación a la mujer y el movimiento feminista. Analizaremos La campana de cristal y El grupo a la luz de los discursos de liberación femenina y trataremos la representación de la mujer moderna. Estos textos pasaron desapercibidos en cierta medida por la crítica de la contracultura, pese a su éxito de ventas. Sin embargo, son precursores del movimiento feminista de finales de la década de 1960, como demostraremos.

This project examines the countercultural production associated with homosexuality and the gay liberation movement. We will analyse two texts pertaining to this production and underline their features and how they use American symbols to reflect the homosexual experience. Furthermore, the objects of analysis shall centre upon two works which have been ignored to a certain extent by academic research in the study of this period. In this respect, we shall display how these novels can be included as representations of American counterculture., Nuestro TFG examinará la producción contracultural asociada a la homosexualidad y los movimientos de liberación homosexual. Analizaremos dos textos y señalaremos sus características, así como usan los símbolos tradicionales americanos para reflejar la experiencia gay. Además, nuestros textos han sido ignorados hasta cierto punto por la crítica sobre este período. Proponemos que estas novelas son ejemplos de la contracultura americana.
